Nope. Music mods sometimes, but that was clear vanilla start from R2mods.
That canβt possibly be anything in vanilla, I suspect someone might be using mods π€
Is that that dedicated server or player hosted? And does anyone else using any mods?
Ok. I'll ask boys.
Yet, we played a lot, till middle of swamps without map, never was such issues.
I've starting game like this, with vanilla start button. Maybe that was a reason?
Try to turn everything off, mods are just always the problem
Maybe even reinstall that for good
what weapon do i fight yagluth with silver sword himminafl frostner or frost arrows?
Sere, cant hurt to do a clean reinstal π
Silver sword is best in normal progression, i never looked at how Himminafl would fair against him tho
it's okay for adds but I'd use sword for yag, myself
Thanks everyone!
Yep, silver sword is still best from those
my friend was the host of our server and he's offline, so I can't play on the server, but he dropped the server's saves. Thanks to these files (which he sent me), how can I log on to this server and play on my own without his participation
You can play there solo, but his save will still be the same, so anything you do there will not be there when he hosts again.
how can I make this wooden floor look a bit better aesthetically?
and how do I access these saves? I upload files to the worlds_lokal folder, but nothing happens in the game.
You should have the world in the menu then
I can't see him(
You can make a nice criss cross pattern with 1x1 floors
In crypts or in the stone towers in swamp π
So both~ π
is there someone who is familiar with mods? I wanted to try some mods but after downloading them on thunderstore my game doesnt launch i can show u all the mods I am using if someone can help me that would be great
Try asking in #mods-discussion or #mods-issues π Folks there will most likely be able to help you.
10500
you sure thats radius and not diameter?
Thatβs the radius
can anyone recommend a strategy for finding haldor?
sail around black forest shores, thorough exploration of each one isn't necessary since the discovery radius is pretty huge
Also searching around elder can help sometimes π
why so? is there any reason he might appear there more often?
I dnt think there is any rule for it, just from experience he is there somewhat often π
21000 km ?
Bonkers.
Guys, a quick question as I could find any info fast on my own. Are animals and monsters susceptible to fall damage? And are there any modifiers for them to take fall damage?
Afaik we are the only entity that cares about falling.
Otherwise there'd be an entire strat for Queen about taking her to the top floor and making her charge at you.
That's a bummer
-# they specifically asked "in metres"
Would symlinking the *_local save dirs between Linux and Windows versions be safe?
kilo is a TYPE of meter π
No that is thousand meters π if they wanted kilometers the could ask "how many thousands of meters", but that is not what they did right? π
(And if you really want to go this way then it might be also 21000 milimeters π kinda small for a world isnt it?)
21 Megamilimeters? π
The world has diameter of 21 000 000 000 Β΅m π
micro meters?
Indeed π (someone may also call them microns π )
heh π
Going to do it and see since manually copying seems ok.
I cant really help you as i never worked with linux, but good luck! π
Hey I've got a buddy who can't have people join his game! every time we tired it says we are banned from the game and he can't find out why it says that! He has made sure we are not banded but it still says the same thing no matter what he does
You're better off asking the server owner.
what chat would that be?
Huh? I don't know who runs your server.
oh wait nvm sorry the server owner has no idea why its not working we both installed the game, at the same time and every time i try to join his game it says im banned but, I've look at his game and it says I'm not banned and we've been trying to figure out why it says im banned when im acutely not
Is there a whitelist file in use?
we think its some kind of bug in the game, he can join my game and everything in my setting is the same as his.
and i don't think so
Also idk if this will help but heβs started a few games and I canβt join any of them
how would yall reccomend me to get to yag? (this si my first playthrough past mountains)
i must've stepped on odin's toes and that's why i didn't make it to valhalla
I'd go for the most western one, it's a long but easy sail, and you won't have to navigate around any mistlands. On top of that, that yag continent has a really nice mistlands.
anyone got playthrough ideas like with different weapons only or smth im bored
did they change the spawn areas of moder , me and my friends got a moder spawn between mistalnds , i was confused we went there its literally covered in mist from all sides and we are still in early silver age, then i checked the seed because before moder never spawned that far few years ago, i saw there were 2 more moder both in similar condition one in the north another in the west, I can share the seed aswell if you want , we want suggestion how to reach there and do the boss
Could someone help? I have problem with joining to dedicate server. Announcement: "Unable to connect to the server, the application ID provided by the server is invalid"
Hey guys. Is anybody on Xbox able to craft a basic leather tunic for a warlock class? Iβllpay you well for it. Just want it for looks. Dn me?
speedrunning. skip progression and still try to manage
and play on harder difficulties if u havent already
how do you guys keep up with sap demands in ashlands if you are playing a mage set-up? I have a mist base with 4 adjacent roots and usually tap them every 4-5 days.
can someone give me a tip how to reach moder , me and my friend are still in early silver edge and all of the 3 moder spawn are all in mistland area and covered with mist from all sides never saw a seed like this what to do in this situation
no speed reduction from armor
just do the bonfire cheese strategy
How far do you have to travel through the mistlands? I would just set up a portal in whatever biome right outside the mist at the shortest path through. bring frost potions and a second set of portal mats. line yourself up through the shortest point towards the mountain and sprint or sneak through. maybe sneak. and if you end up dying just go naked and corpse run your way there.
I don't think they necessarily changed the Moder spawn. just bad luck and can happen. I had a mountain like that, but there were some paths through the plains. and my main Moder spawn was just surrounded by easy black forest. so just bad luck.
You've got this!
Running hastily through mist on top of the mountain with help of Eikthyr power and Ratatosk Tonic with portal mats.
Can anybody help me find and fight the plains boss so I can FINALLY get to the mist lands?
if u want, u can go to mistlands now. it's surprisingly doable without the wisplight
I've heard suggestion, that this troll-drop was vengeance of troll-fish, hanged on the wall inside the base.π€£
I make a portal chain and use every Dvergr extractor I find, now I've got about 7 or 8 in a portal chain.
Wrong server..?
Pretty sure he wants someone to mod him in a custom armor set
wait but actually that doesnβt make sense considering itβs Xbox
yeah
I think you right lol
Thank you! I'll look around for other clusters of roots and set up a portal chain!
I've got like 4 wood chests full of sap using the 4 roots, but i don't actually mage yet so I figured I would probably run out pretty fast once I start making the Eitr foods from the ashlands.
The good thing about a portal chain is you can place the portal right near the extractor, pop out of the portal, gather mats, pop in the exit portal and continue to the next and it is really easy to add new portals to the portal chain.
Nah fam ashlands is absolutely unplayable in multiplayer. The lag is just too much
My buddy and I didn't have problems.
Does anyone know how I can change the character name? it's possible ?
Where do i get the world save
There is no ingame feature for that, i think there is a way to do it with changein some files but i personally dont know how, easier would be to make new character and give him the same skill lvls as the one you want to rename. π
in C:\Users\ "your user name" \AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim and there you should see worlds_local folder if i want to move my world to a server what files exactly do i move?
Hmm sure, ty for you attention
I moved the world saves from stream autocloud to local
Oh, right thanks
All of them that are in the same folder, which should be two I believe.
there';s two files
the .db and .fwl files with the name of the world you want π
vikings.db and vikings.fwl
Yep, both of those π
okey
and i have a linux server here, how do i figure out where to u0pload the two files in?
That have no idea unfortunately
#linux Would be the place to ask I presume.
I havent started the world yet so in theory i could make it and maybe there will be a world file to replace?
When i start the server, how do i join it, does anyone have any clue?lol
i figured it out
but the world files i put in dont work
thje two at the bottom are my files, but the server keeps generating new ones
them being the two at the top
thats all in the worlds_local file
Looks like you have a dedicated server.
Better ask in corresponding channel then #dedicated-server
Why do some recipes for cipi like sausages and other things not unlock them even if I have the materials?
is the cauldron upgraded with the spice rack?
No how can I get it
I think you need a chain from the swamp
you can find them in dungeons or kill wraiths at night
thanks
can tamed animals be tp'd with the portal?
nope.
Is there a puzzle to be solved in the frost caves? I just found a fishing rod but the lake is frozen over. I added wood to the already existing fire thinking it would do something, also tried to /rest.
Gave it a quick google. Looks like the lake is either frozen or not frozen, and there is no puzzle. But I wanted to ask here as well
yes and no. Some frost caves have unfrozen lakes with Tetra in them.
I think I found one of those earlier in my playthrough. Didnβt have a fishing rod yet but I marked it to come back to later
then how do i travel with them?
Boat, build a ramp above your boat and either push them off of it onto your boat or destroy the ramp under them to basically do the same.
Once they are on it, make sure to stay away from the shore and better stop sailing when you encounter a storm.
Else they will either aggro a mob or clip trough the boat.
not chain, you need dandelions, carrots, mushrooms, thistle and turnips
Ah, probs missing turnips then, must have been thinking of something else
The chain is needed for forge upgrade π so maybe that?
chain is needed for the upgraded cooking station.
Can't keep the wife in the kitchen without a chain, am I right? π
-is Krom considered polearm or sword when it comes to skill
Oh, I ain't touching that comment with an atgeir.
It's a sword.
got it
Does someone have a lay-out for me for an automated chicken farm that works? I've build one, but the chickens can't find the seeds
It's a battery farm. Name it for what it is π
True, true xD
What foods can you tame boars with?
Does carrots or turnips work?
Dunno what is wrong here. Can someone maybe take a look?
Yes, both work. You can also use Raspberries
Can you tame two at the same time?
I have two 1 star boars in a pen. One is frightened, one is 13% tame and frightened.
I leave 50 turnips and 50 carrots with them, come back 2 days later, no difference on them.
@charred glacier And blueberries.
Yes, but you have to stay out of their line-of-sight, but also close enough (64 meters) in the area
Aha ok, I teleport away from them.
Maybe that wont work
If that is further than 64 meters, it doesn;t work
Should I just hang out for a bit around them?
Will the same be required for them to start breeding?
I figured it would work to have pig farm away from main base, but if closeness is required, there will never be progress there when you return I assume?
Ideally, you have your breeding farm in reasonably close proximity to your base, so you can go about your business while the piggies pork. Otherwise, yeh, you're gonna have to watch the show.
This distance works, to give you an example. I can stand afk here, or do stuff in my base, and the boars will breed in the farmer I marked with a red circle
So I guess then, even if I wait close by for them to become tame, they will still not breed if we're not in proximity.
We figured it was a smart idea to place it away from base to avoid lag π
I can confirm that when you have 50+ boars, you get drops in fps in your main base π
Why does this happen
Place 2x2 walls on either side of the workbench and you should be fine
Ty
it happens because coverage in valheim is calculated based on invisible rays projected from an object.
70% of these have to hit a solid object and a roof has to be somewhere directly above it for a workbench to be satisfied.
(a common problem is that the space is too tight and the rays start above the ceiling or behind the walls, since as this demo image shows, the rays don't start at the exact center of the object, but that doesn't seem to be the case here, aramisxan's solution probably works)
Ty
No. Put more effort in and come back.
?
Try to connect few more times, sometimes it can take a few tries π
i tried to connect maybe 20 times
Oh, dont know whats going on then
Or at least let us know what server you're connecting to. Is it dedicated? Is it hosted by another player?
hosted by my friend
My first thought is a version conflict. Is everyone completely updated?
i`m playing maybe maximum 5-10 min, after this starting to lagging, and there is have a usb and processor or smt sign on left top
Oh, so you're able to connect initially, and then dropping out and getting this error?
after this disconnecting me from game
yes
You're seeing how that screenshot is not of any value now, yes?
But, anyway...
Is the host somewhere far from you?
Sorry, I don't speak Glyph.
- means yes on some occasions.π
You're on a console?
How are you connected to your internet? Wireless? Ethernet?
wireless
Can you establish an ethernet connection?
i tried already
That's good. It means the problem is at least one layer up.
I recommend playing around with your connection with just you. If that works, establish connections to things that aren't Valheim. If you're able to connect trouble-free to another online game, or a google drive of the host, or any external connection equivalent to whatever the host is offering, then it's probalby their issue.
Yo guys
Is it normal to get like 10 copper per the whole rock?
Cause i feel like im mining inefficiently
I be mining copper, yet i get more stone
Dig down. The copper veins are like icebergs; most is blow the surface.
I refer you to my previous statement. π
you can hit the grassy ground "inside" the rock to get deeper
Perhaps 'dig around' is more accurate.
hey i just started playing valheim but i have searhced 3 swamps and found no iron am i doing something wrong
Is there stuff inside?
the rock is an object separate from the ground that clips through it, and most of the rock's body is below the surface
every fragment has the same chance of dropping copper, so yea there's a lot more below the ground
Do vineberry only produce berries if grown in ashlands
They grow and produce berries anywhere.
Have you defeated the elder yet? Iron is hidden underground and in the swamp crypts.
yeah elder is dead
Use his key to open swamp crypts in the swamp. the muddy scrap piles drop iron.
i havent found any crypts
ah ok. Gotta search more swamps then.
Keep sailing around swamp shores. Investigate any ground-level green torches you find.
that sucks; best of luck in future swamps
thanks
can I find fenrirs in other places than frost caves?
no, sadly
wait, fenris fur is cave exclusive, fenrir enemies are in the mountains at night
is there any way/reason to dip my toes into the mistlands pre-yagluth? is there any materials i might find on the edge and get a leg up with?
You can get everything from the mistlands without killing yagluth
I did that on one of my saves
so far iv'e gotten ygdrasil bark and hare drops
yea, but for a skill issue like me that might be different. what's the least risky way to 'level up' my gear/food/potions in the mistlands?
yeah, I got happy seeing them at night, then sad seeing they don't drop what I need :c
I mean there isn't anything you can get without going into the dungeons
darn
soooo
why
and how do I stop this from happening?
it is behind a wall
that is behind a wall
that is around an island
who's only entry is a closed bridge
and this mf
spanws in the 10mΒ² pig enclosure
REALLY FK ING PRECISELY
and slaughters them all
if I've tamed a couple of pigs, is there any way to lure them over to my base some hundred meters aways?
no, you either push them, or tame them in the pen you're gonna keep 'em at
good luck lol
you can make a corridor of fences or walls, and push them through
Get some black marble. You can destroy ruins with a stonecutter for it, no pickaxe needed
That lets craft the cauldron upgrade
And what can I make with black marble?
Cauldron upgrade to make mistland food
That plus jotun puffs and eggs from sealed tower gives you both salad and honey glazed chicken
you need to make sure the interior area you've enclosed is spawn proof--i.e. you need to spam the area on the inside of the wall with enough campfires, workbenches, etc. (objects that block spawns) to prevent any enemies from spawning inside the walls; additionally, it's not really safe without a roof because certain raids that have flying mobs, and also a single wall won't protect against mobs that can come up to the wall and then aggro to mobs on the other side and attack either breaking walls to get in or being able to do an AoE attack (like the shaman's poison) that can hit mobs through the wall
i usually do a compromise myself, where i'll have a fully protected double layer and roof setup for 1 breeding pair to keep them safe, then populate a herd with that that I don't bother with as full protections for because I know i have the pair to fall back on if anything should kill the entire herd
Oooooo. I think I'll just fight yagluth as intended, and then buy the π₯ from haldor. Prob gonna help me on my first day in the mist
Oooooo. I think I'll just fight yagluth as intended, and then buy the π₯ from haldor. Prob gonna help me on my first day in the mist
Why does my campfire switch on/off
It needs room to let the smoke out, otherwise it chokes
it just needs enough space for the smoke to despawn. Which isn't that much. a 2x2x6m "chimney" works fine even if it doesn't vent anywhere.
well, yes, i know that π i dont usually make chimneys and let the smoke despawn just under the roof
i generally do make them to avoid choking myself. But a lot of my bases turn out a little cramped π
My houses usualy end up 3-4 2x2 walls high (6m-8m) π so i dont have to worry about that
what is an obliterator good for? It seems inefficient according to the wiki
just trash bin i think. instead of throwing out of inventory and then maybe picking up by mistake later on for example
A trash bit that gives you a bit of coal π
is there any way to expand the number of inventory slots i have?
Nope
Only weight you can carry
you can use mods if you feel the needs to get more space, inventory is a struggle
Bleh, mods....
hey guys so me and my friend beat eikthyr, we got some tin and stuff but we dont really know what to do
we wanna fight the elder but when i tried going there we're seperated by an ocean which prevents me from getting to the elder
run around the black forest, looking for little caves to venture into
i found a troll cave that had just some amber in it, and a trader. although i cant buy anything of use
Explore black forest dungeons and generally islands that have it π you should also go and make some nails in the forge π it will solve the ocean problem
Ehm, 100% buy the belt
Find the ones with moving skeletons outside of them
you already found the trader? nice! that's pretty good luck
thank you will do, thing is i just need to get some coal and then ill maybe make some tin nails since i only have tin rn
yeah i wanna but i have only half the money unfortunately
you'll want copper too
You need also copper π
ohhhh ok
ill get back to you guys after i make whatever youre telling me to make
It looks like the big rocks you normally find in black forest but it has shiny veins in it π
is a battleaxe viable as a woodcutting tool? Can it cut the same kinds of trees as the iron axe
Yep it is, it can be fun tho i usually only use normal axes, i dont want to waste materials on it π
that crystal axe looks really cool
Oh indeed π
i am just getting to mountains on my no map/no portal... i might go with the crystal axe this time
but can it definitely cut all the same tree varieties?
iron axe cuts ancient trees apparently?
Hey guys, just recently died in the ocean not super far off from land. My stuf is there, but I died during a storm and there were 2 serpents in the general area. Side note - it was night time too. Is my stuff retrievable you reckon or is that a repeated suicide mission? The Karve I had broke in 2 hits by themβ¦. π¦
bronze works too
is there anything i can do to stop our boat drifting when its parked
this is why anchors were invented
Mastermind @frosty frost I need thy wisdom ππΌπ«ΆπΌ
It doesent move if something isnt nudging it π€ you can test that when you jusp out of it while its moving
Has anyone used a vps for Valheim that works?
What can i do for you? π
doesnt align with my experience, we left it parked in an inlet and it drifted about 15 metres out to sea over an hour of adventuring inland
Whats the best way to make a Karve port, i want it enclosed so that my boat doesn't get eaten by foots?
I usually go and park in a river π
But then it will hit walls rocks and get chewed by foots
how do i reliably get coal? im new
build a charcoal burner with 5 surtling cores
raid dungeons to get the cores, if you dont have enough to have a smelter and a burner, make the burner first, make lotsa coal, then dismantle it and make a smelter to use it
got it thanks
Or just burn some food
how do i get surtling cores reliably, theres only one close dungeon and its drained dry
this is reliable but extremely inefficient, a bad idea
build a raft and set sail to another continent, there will be many more dungeons
Thats what kiln basically does, yes, and turning on dangerous world modifier just for faster coal production is... Strange...
tried to sale got fucked up by some sea serpent
terrible luck, those are fairly rare, try again
That you will after making the nails π
you need bronze for a better boat, and you need coal for that, some rafting is gonna be necessary
Eh... no?
stick close to the coast, serpents only appear in the ocean biome iirc
on SOME spawns at least a smidge of rafting probs is literally necessary
Do you reckon I can retrieve my stuff from the middle of the ocean (not super far off land), but when I died it was night, thunder storming, and there were 2 serpents in the area. When I died they broke my boat in 2 hitsβ¦
on MOST spawns i've looked at seeds for/player myself, it hasn't been TECHNICALLY necessary
Karve ^
Oh for sure, if it wasnt the storm what spawned them then they will be gone, and if they were spawned by storm... you will have to be fast π (night spawns despawn at dawn, storm spawns dont). Also dont worry about items you had in inventory, they are safely floating with your grave π
for dealing with serpents i highly recommend bringing along other players, so one can sail and steer while the other(s) shoot arrows at it
and if a serpent is really chasing you hard, just beach yourself on a convenient shore
you can pickup the pices when they break your boat, and also get better loot from the serpent if you manage to kill it, which is pretty likely if you stand on a beach and shoot it from where it cant retaliate
we recently killed our first by crashing into a sandbar and openning fire
Any tips on going quickly or anything I should bring? I did not expect the Karve to break so fast by them lol
Just a new karve and finewood bow if you have it, the crude bow will do but finewood will be better π
will tamed boars eat yellow mushrooms to breed?
that's a good question, never tried
Nope, only red.
what else do they eat?
Blueberries, raspberries, onions, carrots and turnips.
And Turnips π
Also carrots π
The carrots were correct π
Yeah, got confused with the other conversation going on.
i have carrot seeds, how can i plant them?
You need bronze to make the thing you plant them with π
ok should i make a forge first or should i make bronze first?
You need forge to make it π
Like Asatru said, first create a Forge, then craft Cultivator (5 Bronze 5 Corewood)
got it thanks. also, i made this giant badass hammer out of corewood and stuff is it worth it?
Oh that is nice in the burial chambers π
ok great! once i get to the elder, should i use it?
Its not the best for him, sword+bow with fire arrows is my preffered combo
I recommend using it inside the chambers and also if you get swarmed by multiple enemies like Greydwarves.
Usually it is good to have one weapon for crowds with you.
how do i make a sword?
Make the forge and bronze π
got the forge π€
Now its time for some bronze π
an item has fallen into deep water and sunk to the bottom, its too far down to raise with the hoe. How do we get it?
its very close to land, within arms reach horizontally
Make a tower and jump for it π
2-3 walls high should do fine
If not, build higher π
this is so dumb o.o
Will I have time to kill the serpent you think?
You should be able to with finewood bow and flint arrows
No no, diving boards are fun~ π
welp it actually worked
So the dvergar are initially friendly/neutral, right?
What exactly will aggro them, Anything besides directly attacking them?
are they safe to build a base around?
Think you could touch the ocean floor if you fall from far enough? π€
Depends how deep that actually is and if there is max fall speed
Gotta try it one day lol
the ocean is only 30 meters deep at its deepest, and completely flat and featureless
you can easily touch the floor with enough speed, but getting that much speed without commands is another story π
probably catapulting yourself off a really tall mountain and unequipping the feather cape while you're above an ocean
so i want to use devcommands to spawn myself some armor because i accidentally yeeted it down to JΓΆrmungandr, but when i try to type 'devcommands' the consle replies with 'that command is not valid in this context' or somthing like that. anyone know any way to fix that?
Make sure that you're actually typing in the console, not the chat window and if you're on a multiplayer server that you're the owner (i.e not on a dedicated server).
Does anybody know what's fwl+db?
Those are your world files. You need both to load the world correctly.
Look at the other side of it π
It happens π
You have the console enabled i see π
nevermind i figured it out, i forgot to 'enabledevcommands'
If you are on steam version the -console is all you should need, then just type in devcommands to the console itself
What are bonfires for in comparison to regular? Just bigger lighting or? I do know the fireworks trick, but anything else?
They provide fire over a larger area and don't go out during rain.
Gotcha.. I just unlocked them. Having a hard time progressing from where I am. The swamp enemies nearly decimate me in a few small hits with level 3 troll armor set. Do I just need to explore until I find a swamp area that has Iron? Also, do I need to kill the abominations for anything or are they just the swamp version of trolls? That thing 2 shots me. I know fire arrows are likely my best bet.
Also @frosty frost I did get my stuff back from the ocean. Thanks for advice! I play solo so I was panicking hard because a serpent was still nearby. lol
Nice π
Aboms let you make a swamp tier light armor that gets you poison resistance (helmet but mead gets you better resistance), pierce resistance (chest piece) and archery bonus (this one only with full set), look for 2green torches next to each other as those mark enterence to swamp dungeons where you will find iron, have poison resistance mead with you at all times and dont go there at night. π
Perfect. I will get onto making those. Is there anything else that will help initially or should I just be super cautious until I can make some iron armor or something? I think I am going to skip bronze for now. I do want wolf armor, but don't think I can even do that until I have the Iron that is necessary to make an Iron Pickaxe.
Yeah make the iron when you can, and what weapons are you using?
The finewood bow or whatever and a Bronze axe
I figured Axe was best for woodcutting and defense
Do you have the bronze buckler? It is a great help.
Btw, axe or sword are great agains abominations, it is resistant or very resistant to other whisical dmg π
I do not. Are shields that helpful? I had the bone tower shield or whatever for a little bit of time. I felt like the shields were clumsy feeling. I almost went Atgeir.
Should I just do a bunch of fire arrows for abomination?
Oh i also don't like tower shields, they can't parry, but round shields and bucklers are great, it will help you with surviving in swamp immensely π
And for the abomination my favorite strategy Is either to lure them into a fire geysirs or parry them with buckler and swing my axe or sword
How effective is the parry? I am scared to get close to the abomination or draugr lmao they are super strong
abomination is 2 hit, draugr are like 3-4 hit kills on me
With 2 hp foods and upgraded buckler you should be able to parry the Abom iirc π
Is there a certain area I should be looking for swamplands? The areas I am finding are like.. small portions attached to meadows? Nothing of interest there. Just a land or dread that I want to get out of asap hahaha
The swamp is hell xD
It's just the nature of the procedural generator. It's not uncommon to find a number of small patches then come across a massive area with a great crypt haul
I am excited, but terrified lmao none of my friends stay on long enough to help me. They log on for like an hour and then dip to another game. Solo is a pain in the ass!
I need to remember to bring portal stuff with me. I also wish this game had achievements
Yep, portal mats make a big difference. And for swamps, I recommend building your portal on top of a sunken crypt. Workbench at the base, so you can use it as a step up, then portal on top so it doesn't get destroyed.
I will give that a go when I finally find a spot I can explore. Right now it is a slow process of balancing what I need and setting out to explore far enough to find what I am looking for. lol\
I am new though so I don't no the most efficient ways to do everything
Achievements will come when 1.0. patch drops.
where chanel for russian?
There is none. This server is english-only.
just keep pushing the cart around until it flips over. or just destroy it and rebuild it
Am trying that rn, ty
Sorry, I was clearing a Draugr village quick. Any word on when that might be? That will be exciting for sure!
Though a bit of a bummer if it is any time soon as I imagine it would require a fresh playthrough
1.0. patch is when Deep North update drops, but we don't know when it will happen.
That's not the case. You can continue your older world after a biome content patch is added if you have left the current unfinished biome mostly unexplored. But devs usually recommend starting fresh.
It might also be later that they go to 1.0.
Achievements might be added sooner than 1.0 but it is one of the final things they will add.
First Deep North, then tweaking and optimization after feedback and testing by the community and then final release.
It might, but at least I've had the impression according to The Spill that they plan to release 1.0. when Deep North update is ready to be added, with some possible additions to earlier biomes.
If my base is within the "the ground is shaking event", but I'm not inside the event circle, will trolls still spawn and wreck my base?
They should spawn when you are in the active area. But if you stay outside your base they target only you and leave your base alone.
ok ty
Stay inside the circle for some time and the event goes off, you don't need to kill the trolls during the event.
Killing them during the event will spawn more of them.
Within the limit of course, 2 trolls is maximum for troll raid.
Anyone know how to get chickens in an egg farm to eat? I don't understand why they aren't. I've watched video guides and I don't understand what I've done that is materially different such that they wouldn't be able to eat.
I've messed with it and no matter what I do they just won't eat.
At a time.
I even removed all the walls and they still won't eat.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klQg1f41U3c is the chicken farm I use and it has never failed me, the roof and shutter combo puts the food in front of the chickens and the other shutters push the chickens in the perfect spot.
Good add. π
chickens on slopes can be very finicky which places they eat from. I've had some success putting a corner roof next to straight one and throwing the food in there, the chickens ate it through a wall no problem but wouldn't touch anything put in front of them.
Will changing your forsaken power also change the nature of raids?
Or are the strength of raids dependent on which bosses I've slain?
Your chosen forsaken power doesn't affect on what raids you get.
Each boss has their own "minion raid" that go inactive (=cannot trigger) after the certain boss is defeated and the next raid goes active (=can possibly trigger). Also some additional raids can trigger while progressing the game that never go inactive.
Better explained: https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Events
ok thank you
How do I know when my carrots are ready to bve harvested?
soo bigger
Yeah and you'll be able to click them, to pull them out, won't work before.
Anyone know why my Karve keeps getting damaged at random times when sailing?
Additionally is sailing in bnad weather bad for any reason? Like in storms?
strong waves or underwater rocks probably
and yes the karve can capsize in storms (only at full sail though afaik, pull back to half sail in bad storms and you should be good).
Capsize means
it flips over
oof
basically you lose the boat and die if you don't have enough stamina to swim to shore
oof
How close should i plant carrots to one another?
One "cheesy" way to avoid this is, log off when your stamina is low, go into another world and let stamina replenish, go back to the world you are swimming in, swimm till exhausted and repeat till you make landfall.
also serpents spawn in storms. You can handle them in a karve with a finewood bow as long as you keep calm though
About 1m apart.
pro-tip for planting: equip your cultivator, activate walking mode (C on PC) and look down at a ~45Β° angle, then walk forward while clicking every time the plant turns green.
That gives you the perfect spacing and goes pretty fast
No but I always make a portal chain, if I find a patch of 5 berries or mushrooms with or more I'll put two portals down, one to come there and one to go to the next patch.
Can't plant mushrooms either but you'll need the red ones all game. They always respawn in the same spots though so it pays to mark those on the map whenever you find them.
I got lucky with my starting island, the patch of black forest there is incredibly dense with mushrooms, blue berries and thistles. It's not even worth setting up a portal chain because the next resource is generally within line of sight of the previous π I just do a circuit when i need more and end up with a stack or two of each.
Dang that is a lot, yeah if I would have such a densely packed black forest I wouldn't portal chain either.
is it just me or is it far easier to get tin than copper?
In the black forest, yeah. Tin is pretty much everywhere around the coast and rivers and only takes 1-2 pickaxe swings to mine
Ah, the trick to copper is that most of the copper is underground.
You can dig out the whole copper and make it explode if you clear about 2m around the whole chunk.
is that faster if its exploded than mined?
Yes! If I find a patch of 4 or more I mark them on the map! Usually a lot close to main baseβ¦.
do like have to make it float for it to break?
pretty much
mine away all supporting terrain, then destroy any part of the ore vein and the whole thing explodes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4srjBuVI6Ik
Most of the times, yes.
Takes more swings to break the copper than the earth and if you use the antler pickaxe for the earth you can keep the other pickaxe for taking down the copper.
The antler pickaxe can be repaired at a workbench while the other ones need a different crafting station.
So pop a workbench, dig out earth, repair antler pickaxe at workbench when needed.
Make the copper float, jump on it and destroy one part of it and it should explode.
I hit water
In that case you wonβt be able to pop it
Summoned skeletons disappear when i use a portal?
sometimes? I don't think they just despawn, they tend to show back up in random places for me when i portal around.
oh ok
no idea how it works in detail or how to keep them around though
Yea, i wasn't sure, couse it seems sometimes they're still there and another time all gone.
They will hang around as long as you don't summon new ones somewhere else.
At least that is how it looks to me.
You can still pop a bunch of it but not all probably, just excavate everything and start mining the bottom away, eventually you will have enough cleared space around and can pop the rest.
Is there a way I could see ping and fps shown?
You should be able to enagle it in corner of your screen if using steam, or click on F2
Ping too?
It might be in the F2, but not too sure about it
Im gonna tey to run valheim on integrated graphics and an i5 1230u
Do Asksvin's egg need a fire source in the ashlands?
I believe so, yes
Allrighty. Thought maybe they doesn't, since its the Ashlands, hot everywhere π
Meybe drop then into the water π but they might turn hard boiled xD
Can Asksvin destroy walls made of ground? for some reason there is a part of my wall destroyed
Lava blobs can, I don't think asksvin can though
ah i see, ty
Nope, the blobs are the only mobs that can do that currently afaik
You mean lava blobs?
why does it seem like nothing in the build menu snaps together like they used to everything seems off now
You are not incorrect. Ashlands in particular feels very... outsourced (if I'm polite).
Is there a actual list to look up fire source range?
Couse i cannot find the informations for Firepit iron
Firepits are pre-constructed.
Does the tangle effect from jade variants affect bosses or they are immune?
It effects bosses
Awesome, ty
Wich fire source got the highest range for fire effect?
Wiki it π
so what exactly do you do when the second you kill moder you're basically getting a fuling raid? lmao
Perimeter walls.
just asking because that happened to me (when i had no walls and I just had to run and bait them somewhere else until I had the proper stuff to eliminate them)
Im just worried this will happen to me and the mistlands. I'd rather not kill yagluth and get raided by mist enemies which im not prepared for
If you need to know, the Wiki will tell you what events to expect, when. But, generally, some sort of build protection outside of your actual base walls will make a big difference.
okay then i'd be fine. I have great defense. I just didnt know if the mistlands enemies could simply just fly over the walls
dumb insects
Oh hell yeh, Seekers will definitely fly over walls. But you need to know which biomes they'll spawn in.
eh what the hell am i saying lol, bonemasses ability basically negates all seeker damage so I dont really care.
ill kill them
silly little cicada
Good luck to you.
thanks
Any tips for fighting yagluth other than drink da wine and don't die?
Recognise the telecasts for their attacks and use the 'fingers' around the spawn location for protection.
Telecasts?
The animations that precede attacks.
Ah.and just in case, does he have any attacks I can't run away from?
There's an AoE that you need to balance running away with minimising the affected area, but I don't want to spoil it all π
Wait... sorry... I was thinking of Fader. Corrected response - Just learn the animations.
Does he have a second stage to worry about?
If you want the whole strat, just hit the Wiki π
That's fair
Can one yield atgeir and shield at once?
nah :/
Check the weapon details; if it states 'Two-handed' a shield is not an option.
Sup vikings!
I've been trying to run a dedicated server on my local network to solve connection issues between me and my wife. I got to the part where I run the start_headless_server file, it opens a CMD window with all the server info in it, and when I connect on my computer using localhost:port, it prompts me to enter the password and right after it disconnects
In the server console, it dc's right after these messages
What am I doing wrong?
I hate it when my socket gets disposed.
seriously, though... who are you using to host the server?
I'm not using no one, trying to host it myself on a local network
Everyone is using the same version of Valheim?
Could be a version mismatch then, ok, I'll investigate
So yeah, I'm trying to run a modded server, launched the original game no mods on and it connected to the server, but my mods for the server did not load. Ty for the help
Mods are almost ubiquitously always the problem. lol
Managed to fix it by copying the folder into the valheim dedicated server folder, wonder if there's a better way to do it without copying the files manually
how do i use the hottub? i have it bubbling but i cant lie down in it
The hot tub is only available to vikings that have had a productive day.
I'm joking... there are 'seats' around the inner edge.
darn, guess i gotta 1-tap eikthyr a ferw times
Don't be too hard on Eikthyr today. He's got some sleigh pulling to do.
Is there a limit to how deep you can mine with certain pickaxes?
No, there's a limit for all mining in the world
ok, ty
Do items on the ground despawn after a while?
does anyone have a wishbone that Δ± could borrow? or help me kill the bonemmass boss in their sewrver?
How do I make a floating copper deposit blow up?
It's not touching any walls or the ground, why doesn't it crumble?
The check for objects is larger than the collision hitbox of the copper. Remove any terrain or objects that are close to it
ok, got it
@abstract stirrup you can activate console and spawn it
yes, if they're not within the radius of a player base item (campfire, workbench, torches, stuff like that)
items dropped within the radius of a player base item never despawn unless they're covered by several meters of water.
i don't reccomend skipping, so i can help you fight him
Hand raised = swipe. Dodge roll forward to immune all damage and keep hitting him.
Hand inside armpit = adds spawn. Run in the direction he is facing and one-shot them when they land. Return to boss and keep hitting him.
Both hands on belly = poison vomit. Turn around and walk/run for 3s and you'll be out of range. Stand and wait for him to walk to you. Keep hitting boss when he gets closer.
Repeat until dead.
Bonemass is a zero-damage fight.
Yoooooo
What is that thing, im pretty sure i saw it the other day on a shore
Like a ghost he vanished soon after and my friends didn't believe me
Odin.
He's just observing your progress.
No.
How do ppl tame bores then and why do they do it
Hey all, what is the best/fastest way to train cooking? Im at end game
Why would u want to train that
i have no idea why, but onion soup and barley flour are the best ways to go
Meat is going to be the easiest thing to acquire and train fast. You can burn it into coal if you dont need the supplies.
Ive been making endless boar and wolf jerky in stacks of 5. Im hoping im getting exp for each and not 1 per 5 haha
I just learned that there is a ridable animal in valheim like a tank
Lox
Question is how to transport it home to spawn
can someone give me a picture of an infested mine entrance?
can someone give me like 4 stacks of iron?
Just spawn it
So they could farm the resources, you have to be near one (64 meters) for 30 minutes to tame
But whats the point of taming then
Just kill them in the same 30mins u can kill probs 10+
Like I said, farm their resources
But its inefficient
You can get a much larger and more efficient amount from a farm
Yup, they start breeding, the more, the more breeding, slowly multiply, so on
You sadly have to hunt them, but itβs rather easy
No farm for it
You can breed up five or six 2-star boars in the time it takes you to plant a decently-sized field if their pen is within range just by throwing in some food. That's 20-24 boar meat and leather scraps just for dumping a stack of food out of your inventory before you start.
You need boar meat for food all the way up through the swamp (and possibly beyond, sausages are good wolf food) and leather scraps remain useful until Mistlands at least.
So it's more efficient to spend the time to set up a farm once and then never have to worry about going out to hunt them again, especially when you're two or three biomes ahead and have little to gain from running through the meadows.
is it worth it to run half carapace armor and half mage armor if im going half mage and half melee or just full mage armor?
When can i get my first mage item?
During processing Mistlands.
best weaps for bonemass?
Iron mace.
defense doesn't apply while the bubble is up so it'll mostly be doing nothing for you. And if your bubble breaks you'll still have mage hp so it's not like armor will make you much more survivable. Better to avoid the movement speed penalty so you can get out of range fast and recast it.
If you don't need the eitr regen from the mage set and just want to use melee as filler Fenris armor is probably a better bet since it synergizes with the bubble staff better.
Otherwise mage set eitr regen and double- or triple-eitr food just lets you kill most things before they even get into melee range. Which will do much more to keep you alive than a few more points of defense.
do you guys always travel around with the hoe?
or you leave hoe and cultivator in base next to your farm?
I take a hoe to most places, but itβs one of the first items I wonβt bring if I need more space
I sometimes bring a hoe, but never cultivator.
in only bring a hoe when i know i'm going to use it
ty
do i need two chickens to begin breeding them? or are they special?
Everything in Valheim is special.
Yep, need 2
darn, time to farm some money
Or go to sealed tower π all of them have 2 eggs in them
what should i make with flametal i just made a bunch and havent done a fortress yet so no elemental weapons
Make the rank 1 weapons (since you need them anyway) and play around to decide which one you would actually want to make elemental.
so i made a black forge, but have no soft tissue. what are the priority items for me to craft from the mistlands?
Youβre going to want to make an Eitr refinery, most of the top gear will require eitr.
i didn't unlock that yet, what is it made of?
dammit. i keep forgetting the wiki exists. anyways, would you say it's reasonable to fight a dvergvgvgervgerger camp with plains* tier gear? or is that a hell naw?
Nope
Ride it onto a longship, be sure to center the Lox on the boat as they do not rotate with it, then carefully sail it home.
i made all of them im thinking about making the slayer and berserkir axes elemental
Ling Axes are one of the most fun things they have added to the game.
why are there some spots in the ashlands where it looks very blurry
visual bug or intended?
Itβs super hot, heat distorts that
^
do you guys usually create multiple sattelite homes on different islands or just keep building upon your first house?
I just got to swamp biome and have been getting Iron. As I am unable to travel with the ore or ingots, am I limited to making an entire new base with the crafting tables and everything all over again? What should I focus on making with the iron? Just pickaxes and such to find obsidian and silver in the mountains?
What I do with swamp is that I bring back some iron, build a longship, and then I absolutely fill it with iron scraps before returning home.
Meadows is biome with the least of annoying enemies, but it's the furthest from other biomes like Plains. I usually build a simple house and then relocate to Plains / Swamps, only boar farms and plains' farm of barley require a specific minibase
How much can a longship hold? Is that the final ship? I am quite a ways away from the base I have dubbed as "main" for now so wondering if it would be smart to just make everything in the swamp again or something.. I wish we could just transfer the ore and ingots through portals lol
the longship isnt the final ship, but its arguably the best one. It can hold a loooot of iron
It has 3x8 or 3x6 slots
Gotcha.. that sounds like the route I may go. Reading online make this Iron age grind a pain in the a**
The draugr absolutely smoke me rn
The atmosphere is beautiful, just not a fan of everything being so strong at the moment lmao
My troll armor is barely cutting it xD
You can easily deal with them using a humble finewood bow if you take the time to raise the skill level
It's not even a little as difficult as further biomes, prepare to grind ||suffer||
I think having friends who enjoyed the game would make it less painful too. It is quite rough solo. Still fun, don't take me wrong, but I imagine several people gathering needed resources and such at once make it miles easier.
keep in mine that you also need to gather more ressources since you need to gear up everyone
Also do make the iron armor. It might slow you down, but the armor rating work well.
I figured I should do this, yeah. The slowness may stink a bit, but I imagine the damage mitigation is much larger.
Yes I have sufficient food for the time being I think. I finished 1 crypt and think I may just need to suffer and make the longship as you said so back and forth a time or 2.
I think I have maybe 4 stacks of iron or so? roughly that from 1 crypt
you need 10 iron for a longship. That leaves you a bunch to do other gear
is scrap a 1:1 ratio for ingot?
I just meant is it like bronze mixing anything or multiple scrap since its not technically the ore version?
But if its 1:1 that is good!
nah, bronze is unique for that
also thats why you need little bronze to build stuff
youll find that you need lots of iron to do anything
Thanks for the help @spare ravine π
I want to ask, I have collected barley and then made flour in the windmill but when I want to make bread in Cualdorn the bread option doesn't appear even though my Cualdorn is level 4, so I can't make bread, what should I do to get bread?
Hello, i am returning player, i am not able to figure out valheim dedicated server stuff, before it used to be small software to start and stop server and easy to upload world in it
yea i think i stop bringing it in ashlands when my action bar has too many items
you need "food preparation table" to make bread and then a stone oven to bake it
I usually have one hoe in inventory (when I have room) and leave another on an item stand at the farm since they're cheap to craft.
Can wolves be fed with neck tails?
Yes.
What building materials are there, i know wood and stone, there's probably black metal too but what else
I want to get iron, is the elder key to enter sunken crypts a one time use and i will need to get more keys to enter more of the crypts or does one key unlock em all
One key unlocks all doors to the sunken crypts.
As for building mats, you got wood, stone, black marble, grausten.
For support you will need wood and iron. There are some iron pieces you can use as floor / wall too. Or as support.
For roof pieces you will need wood and tar.
And for furniture you will need wood, fine wood, stone, tar, ygdrasil wood, copper and iron.
its at the preparation table
can anyone help with this
Try #dedicated-server π
oh thanks thanks π
good start
remember to put roof over everything so the wood doesnt get rain damaged
How far away do i have to be for my ship to not get loaded/destroyed
5 zones over i believe
How muh is a zone
64x64 meters i believe
you might not have to be that far tho, i am not too sure if everything loads in that disance or only certain things
My ships where i loaded the island am i far enough
I think you should be π€
Asatru always in clutch in the chat
Anyone know a good mod for placing barrels/crates etc? To spice up our harbor.
You may consider to ask that here: https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202934289898151966
Go see haldor
Ah thanks, didnt see that channel first
Although you are able to craft your own barrels these days.
Hi, I'm new to the game. I've tried to create a lobby to play with friends but when I quit they lose the connection. Is there no way to keep the server open, or you can only play if the host is always connected? Thank you guys
The others can only join if you as host are online.
If you want them to play while you're away, you should either keep your game running or consider renting a dedicated server.
I still have ships on places on the otherside of the map from weeks/months ago, they are still there. I don;t think there's a limit or something on it. They are all Longships
if a troll breaks my boat where does stuff inside the storage of the boat go, does it drop or delete?
It'll end up in crates, similar to the one you see when you fill up a cart.
The crates work in a similar way as the tombstones, so as long as you don't remove everything, they're still there.
and how can i force a troll to go back where he came from so i could get back my stuff?
Run past him until he follows you, then take a wide birth back from where you started, try to break the line of sight and return to where you are killed.
To break free from his line of sight, sprinting with the Eikthyr power works best.
The other option is to face him and kill him. Even if you got more inferiour gear.
Our based wrecked by a 2 trolls wanting free honey. Great Christmas Present. Wondered what people's best home defence against these free loaders.
For me that's an island base, far enough from the main land to make sure they have to swim to get there.
HAAAALP
If you get raided, run outside, they want you not your buildings
Just go with the wind at full speed, you'll be fine
canm i get finewood in black forest?
no, other than finding broken ships or finewood chairs outside some stone towers
if i break this, i get finewood?
yep, that is a great early source of fine wood
there should also be a chest in there as well
is this good trade, what do i buy? lighting rock looks sick
the belt is the priority
what belt
Megingjord
ups your carry weight capacity
Dverger Circlet is a helmet lamp to help see in caves/dungeons
thunderstone will allow you to create something to dispose of unwanted items in a cool way
Ymir flesh helps unlock a couple of unique weapons
Any good?
Combined with silver, it makes arguably the best weapon in the game
One very good, and one fun to use tho not really that much practical
Silver is probably far from reach for me as im just past bronze age with maxed troll gear
yes, I would then say it is not a priority yet
there is a way to find silver in the bronze age, but I will only let you know if you want a tip. It is still very dangerous
You might as well take 5 of them when you have the money for it tho π but belt is 100% first on the list of things you should buy
I can always come back to it right?
Yes
Make a hut with a portal nearby for ease of access
Uep
Does anyone know what would cause naked goblins to spawn inside walls and kiss my friend? Once he broke down the wall it teleported to another one
My only guess is that it's due to how tall the structure is. But he is also incapable of seeing the goblin itself
You need to spawnproof the base from inside
With like firecamps or workbenches, maybe even torches, i think it also depends on biome ehat structures spawnproof an area, also the spawnproof range is like of a bencheork too
The naked fuling is a bug, was some time back thought it was patched
So it's only visible to the host player? Is it a real fuling or just a visual/audio glitch
I have no idea, only heard about it never experienced it myself
Does anyone know if i'll be able to use the character i played with on steam if I play on the xbox version?
Hey guys, do you have any tips for finding Haldor?
Sail around black forest covered islands, and try to look around elder π
and it wont be near the middle of the map black forests, you need to be out a little ways from the spawn
at least 1500m from spawn π
Hello, does silver appear in the snow area at the top of the map?
Does the Mountain-biome-specific resource appear in the Deep North biome?
That's a real thinker...
It can in the mountain biomes, doesent matter where they are, deep north doesent have any advantage against the rest of the map really
Not in the deep north biome, but the deep north continent contains mountains with silver. Itβs best not to explore there though, as new content wonβt generate there when the biome is updated in 1.0
Thank you for the help, it's just that I can't find silver. I've explored more than three mountains, but I can't find any. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong with the Wishbone.
Nothing wrong π just bad luck. Keep at it and you will find some
be sure the wishbone is equipped, it isn't just automatically on when it is in your inventory
and silver is typically mid-way or higher up the mountains in the flat forest areas
Thank you, I will keep searching
It's at or above Obsidian. So if you don't see any of that on the Mountain don't even try.
it doesent really matter which point of a mountain is it, it has set height requirement π (and almost always above obsidian since that has lower height requirement)
all of the unluckiness just means that when you find some it will be a multi-node find!
what's the best food that i can mass produce in the mistlands? i have a lot of seeker meat and no etir yet
My food sheet is pinned in #valheim-chat
You're looking for the Configurations tab.
Damn, got to sail a lot it seems. Thanks for the tip!
Its not as far as it might seem π
Just straight seeker meat isnt bad, meat platters are pretty cheap and are real good
You have it equipped, right? Make sure you're looking for large mountain ranges and not just small 1 mountain areas.
When do I get materials back from a broken Karve?
A karve immediately drops all materials when broken
What if its broken by a troll
It doesnβt matter how
As do most of structures and things you build with hammer
Okey cool
I might have to go back to my old death place and see if my karve remains are still there
Also how fast can i get iron scrap in swamp? Like time wise
I have a place that has like 3 crypts
Near one another, but how much iron scrap can i expect from each one?
It's very random. Sometimes 25, sometimes 120
How do I disable slow mode for faster texts?
As was said in the other channel, around 50-60 is around average (just keep in mind it can vary quite a bit)
You dont, its here to prevent too much spamming
ah ok
what can we do with excess trollhide, when we already have max level trollhide armor and left that behind an age ago
the bog witch is selling us potions to attract more trolls, WHY
The spear
what spear?
or cape
thats part of the armor, old news
Armor protects u love. That is a accessory
No, that is armor. 3 armor specifically
The cape still provides some (little) armor and is part of the armor set π
THIS is an acessory
are jotun skulls rare? ive explored this much mistlands but havn't found any skulls
Β¨Just sometimes hard to spot
is soft tissue only in skulls and dvergr?
You can also find it in ||Putrid Holes in Ashlands||
Skulls, dvergrs drop it sometimes and its in their crates also (later there is some in ashlands too)
Hmm. prob the type to eat gushers cuz they bust in your mouth
what spear?
I assume they mean elder bark spear, you need total of 10 troll hide to make and fully upgrade it
Whatβs the difference between block force and block armour. I recently entered the Ashlands and Iβm looking to build a new shield to replace my carapace one but the Ashland sheild has less block force so it seems worse?
Force = Knockback
Armor = Actually involved in blocking
Ancient bark spear, iron tier and it needs some troll leather too.
Make an upgrade to the cauldron π you need turnips for that
ok how can i do upgrade? I have to pick up turnips?
You need to find them in swamp and then grow them
Like with other crafting stations, you build improvements around the cauldron. The spice rack requires turnips.
They look like a carrot seed plant with yellow leaves instead of white
Yep, the turnip you will get is needed for the upgrade, and it will unlock new few new food items π so go and farm them
how long is it takes?
After 3 in-game days they should be grown π
3 real-life days π
Nah π 1 - around 1,5 irl hours (if you dont sleep in game)
ah okey, but still
if you will go sleep around noon each day it will be pretty quick π
i slept while ago
After you wake up you can go back to sleep after 10 and a half irl minutes π
πΆ NO
πΆ SLEEP
πΆ TILL BONEMASS
I'm trying to build a really tall central support pillar for a huge roof, but i can't place anymore stone pillar blocks, they start selfdestructing. what can i do ?
in the upper/left of the screen you can see the roof i want to make, it will be expansive and cover this whole area, this pillar is meant to be the centre of it
the pillar is eight Stone Pillar Blocks high, and the ninth will not allow itself to exist
they are 1x1x2 blocks of stone, seem perfect for this purpose
You can put a Core Wood log on top of the stone pilar and it will support the rest.
Or you can use the Wood-Iron pole to connect all the stone pillars and thus gain a bit more support
i dont understand why the first one would work, or what you mean by the second
Ironwood.
we have not beaten bonemass yet
You don't need to.
Finally, I found the silver! π
we have access to swamp resources, barely, stone construction is The New Thing
It's because of the natural physics this game has.
You can't build infinite with stone. But you can increase it's "strength" by adding another pole into its core, just like using rebars in real life concrete.
Moment you acquire iron you have ironwood.
And it is the highest construction point item in the game.
If you have iron bars - which you should have since you got a stone cutter - you will also have one type of standing and laying wooden beam using iron.
construction point? What is that?
that terminology doesn't appear here afaik
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Building_stability
Stability. Whatever it is called.
Ironwood allows you to build higher and further than any other material.
Because it has the most "points" for Valheims internal building system rating.
but how?
How does stone let you build higher than basic wood?
^ answer to that is how ironwood allows you to build higher than anything else.
Again, thats not a thing, there are four different stats, and Grausten has the highest MaxSupport value
π€¦ββοΈ
Fine believe whatever you wish. I make a habit of blatantly lying to people.
don't you facepalm at me
Stone builds higher because it has a MaxSupport 10x the value of wood, and about 7x higher than corewood
You playing on steam, perhaps?

yes, are there other significant platforms? I've never met anyone on a console
Well, that's not the issue.
But it makes it easier for you to read through this for a bit:

things inside other things, do they just use the values of the better piece, or is there a symbiotic effect?
They use the value of the better piece.
And the Wood Iron Pole / Beam have the best values for that.
If you want to cover a large area with a stone floor you may use the beam or the 2x2m cage floor, (starting with the 1x1m cage floor from the wall) to get more strength.
in my case i can only afford two iron bars, would it be better to place wood-iron poles below, above, or inside (the bottom four metres of) my stone pillar ?
if my understanding of the mechanics is correct, below ?
as messed up as that would look
Around works similar and gives a better look.
If the highest pilar still colapses, use the Log Pole for the last bit.
That way you get maximum support of your roof.
Also, it may be a good idea to use Log Poles in your wall and extend the beams under your roof to get more support of roof pieces.
Connect the diagonal ones with horizontal beams so you get a grid and it should be good.
You create basically a supporting skelleton for your walls, floor and roof by doing that.
i don't see a symbiotic effect from my understanding though, the vertical strength loss on the components seems to be the limiting factor for building high?
what will a grid of horizontal beams accomplish?
It will add supporting strength to a floor or roof.
To give you an example:
Ever seen how people rescue other persons from a hole in the ice?
i understand how real building supports work, wider building footprint is the key to building high, assuming materials are unchanged
but from what i get from the wiki, this is not a realistic simulation and normal physics dont really apply
spreading the load of a building over a wider area makes sense in reality
I just don't see how it makes sense in this game according to the building rules on the wiki
They do in this game.
Even normal buildings can only go "this high" before the pressure of the weight of the floors above it will crush the ones below it.
One of the reasons why they used stone for the ground floor and wood for the first floor in the old European houses.
okay can you explain a scenario to me, strictly under the rules of the game and ignoring reality
__X
|
|
This X is two steps vertical and two steps horizontal from the ground, right?
__X__
| |
| |
Is this X any different? If so, how?
When you build in the game, have you ever seen the colours of the pieces?
yea red means not enough support
Right.
also in this scenario, additional question to be answered seperately:
if the left supports were ironwood and the right supports are normal wood, do the right supports help at all? Is there any benefit in that situation?
But it also tells you that the higher you get, the less support you get from anything that stands.
only the iron one would matter
ok ty
also the previous question, if the supports were the same material, does the right one matter? if so, how
So in your first scenario the X may already be Orange, because it has support from only one side.
While in the second scenario it may turn Orange when you want to build it, but the moment it is build it's having a yellow or green colour because it now gets support from two sides.
(assuming the iron wood has enough stability from below to make use of its potential)
a picture, just to make sure discord isn't formatting the relevance out of the example
what is the difference in valheim between these two constructions
With the same materials, what I just wrote above Winter's second reply.
How does having two sides matter?
It is still the same number of steps away from the ground, wouldn't the support values of those beams+poles be degraded the same amount whether there's one or two sets of them ?
just tested, it does get slightly better if supported from both sides, but not to a realistic degree, i'm not sure about the calculations behind that
(in my test it went from darkish orange to orange)
the degree is unimportant, if its a nonzero value, i want to understand why
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Building_stability i could read this page up and down a million times and wouldn't get it, brain too small π
i am also reading that, how i learn is by reading big lists of rules like that, simulating them in my head, finding unexplained holes, and asking questions to fill them
...or not, that looks like it might be the answer?
i don't understand how two sets of equidistant equimaterial supports can have a symbiotic effect-
this may be it
The same as in Real life.
Build something with concrete and it will collapse pretty soon.
Put Rubars in the concrete and it will be a lot stronger.
Or for the skyscrapers: use an iron skelleton to support the concrete and you can get a few dozen floors done.
(Edit: Well, actually the skelleton is made of steel, but I hope you get the idea).
the iron skeleton on its own would stand almost as well, because it's iron
this is about two of the same things supporting each other, like a more traditional stone bridge, which valheim doesn't seem to replicate outside of this one small instance where one piece alone can be affected from two sides
Oh, Winter, thanks for that comment. π
I got screenshots of how I build a bridge to give some idea about how it works.
What I did here was setting up the pillars first, by placing them at the same distance from one another.
Once I got to the desired height, I added the arches to the stone walls, so I could support the floor of the bridge.
In the 3rd screenshot that floor is shown, and it's all having enough support without even using the additional beams or grates to support; simply because the arches extend the support of the walls.
The last screenshot shows the skelleton I set up to support the roof, so I'd be sure that none of the roof pieces would turn into a red one.
But eventually the whole construction is "carried" by the three pillars. Of which the center one is only touching the floor, but the two on the outside also connect to the landmass and thus have maximum support.
@gloomy dagger Does that help you a bit? Or still fuzzy?
i'd be really surprised if the middle of each of the two stone archways wouldn't hold with only one side of each archway intact, stone arches are pretty good for angled stability.
the thing i mean is that irl, both entire sides would support each other because they're in each other's falling direction.
in valheim each wall can hold on its own, it's only at the very piece where they meet that their stability in some way combines, helping not each other but only the top piece, making it more stable than it would be with only one wall.
The thing we ran into here, was that Nanako tried to build a stone column by using multiple pillars, but the top one crumbled all the time and she didn't understand why.
So we suggested that she put the Wood Iron beams inside the pilars for additional strength.
And somehow she couldn't understand why / how that mattered.
ohhh, sorry, my bad, didn't read up π
No problem.
I think building in this game is one of the most complicated things of the game.
And one of the most interesting things of this game.
But you need to use a bit of physics for it; without thinking it too far ahead as it's not meant to be something like rocketscience. π
On top of it, I know there's a difference in construction methods between Europe, North-America, South-America, Australia and Asia.
Which may add to the confusion as well.
I just hope that @gloomy dagger understood enough of it to solve her problem.
what i'm not quite getting here is the constant mention of two
What if something is supported by more than two. Is it a system of recursively collapsing pairs, or are just the two first/strongest used and all others ignored?
hmmmmm, i'll check that too
two supports are averaged and combined into one
so are four supports combined into two pairs, and then the above?
my guess is that only the strongest will apply and the weaker link/s won't affect it, so let's see (so in the case of two equal links, it'll act the same as only one of the two overlapping links)
it looks like that guess is the case but i can't say for sure without looking at the stability stats, i should probably take the time to do this with iron stuff so the increments are at least more noticeable
still looks that way with a bigger iron cross arch but yea, no certainty yet π
@gloomy dagger Do you have core wood?
...what am i doing i literally have ESP installed right now, i had the support stats right there
so the two parents don't have to be opposite of each other, you can also have one supporting from east and the other from north (the page probably implies that, i just missed it), rather than just east + west or north + south, but only one (the strongest if their strengths vary) link like that takes effect
If you do, instead of using a stone pillar as the last piece, use a 2m Log Beam for that problem you showed here: #valheim-help message
It won't be as strong as the stone pillar, but it will get you the height you want for the rest of your building.
Over time you may be able to build a stronger support once you get to Mistlands.
If you don't want to do that, I think it may be a good idea if you start a new game, with the free build option (Hammer mode) and the "no cost" option enabled, so you can build all pieces and found out which materials do what and which ones provides the strongest / highest buildings.
And since it's 4AM over here, I'm off to bed.
Good luck with the building and I hope you manage to get your problem solved!
same, quite sleepy myself, happy holidays to both of you!~
thank you for the input guys
Thx. To you two too. (What's left it it. π )
When are you not sleepy? π
when...uh...never.

Space for you and all the cats.
Anybody down to trade a mistwalker for some gold?
? Just spawn one yourself.
im in ashlands and need to kill a bunch of yagluth fast whats the best weapon?
Frostner or spam fireballs
really?, thunder berserkir axes or mistwalker isnt better?
I mean, thunder berserkirs for sure, i had just assumed you just got there
oh nah im about halfway through
can i trade for a mistwalker
imagine if we had like REAL physics in valheim, and we needed to add a keystone to make arches xD
hi sorry if this is spammy
is anyone available to log on and help me get some stuff back
How to install mods?
Is there an updated list of what boars would eat for breeding?
anyone able to help me out?
what do you need?
i want a mistwalker bad bro
3k gold is what i have
plz if you got the materials help me out
can someone help me with major fps drops in ashlands i always drop to like 30 everytime an enemy shoots at me im at lowest settings
for a mmistwalker i could
can the bog witch spawn in old world with undiscovered swamps?
is there a way to give debug mode to a friend in your world? i would like to essentially play creative mode on here with him
Heβs just a regular user of this server
me too pls

Is there a way to deal with serpents from inside a Karve?
I barely managed to defeat one, but it broke my ship
full speed and alot of arrows
can someone explain why my xbox friend cant join my steam world anymore? we had played before, its our world, but now it says cant resolve join code
do you start with Crossplay?
Was that about me?
sorted it ^
Just spawn it
Trading in this game is completely worthless
Do i need to wear a full iron set to fight goblins in plains? To get black metal?
plains come after mountains, so you're meant to enter them with silver gear
-# but as is often the case, it's not a hard requirement, silver gear just makes it less difficult
The other day i swam by some camp in plains and shot some goblins
They didn't die but my finebow did enough damage, to the point where i think they are kiteable
they definitely are, it just takes more hits/shots~
Goblins drop dark metal right?
yes, but you can't process it without the drop from the mountains boss
But i can build the blast furnace, cant I?
not without that drop - it requires an artisan table instead of a workbench/forge
Aaand
Can i kill the mountain boss with iron stuff?
I just really want black metal, looks so cool
you can, it'd just be slightly more difficult than using silver gear
and you'd have to rely on frost resistance meads for frost resistance - silver armor has it built in
making the mountains easier - each biome prepares you for the next, in iron/swamp's case that's the mountains
I see
but also iron as a resource remains relevant throughout most of the game.
it's part of the strongest group of structural support materials, making it nearly essential for huge builds, and many mid to lategame pieces of equipment still cost iron
What else would you kill her with?
Finewood bow and bronze atgeir?
Doable, but would take considerably longer.
possible, just takes a while, if you wanna save the iron by not making iron equipment, i respect that~
i save as much of my iron as i can too
I have a small hut for a base
You lost me at i.
and silver is a breeze to collect if you shatter it with gravity
It's more pretty than practical
ππ
Usually just use the Iron Mace you killed Bonemass with to slaughter everything in the Mountains.
yea nothing in the mountains resists that thing and it's the best tier-appropriate option against stone golems
other than stone golems, weapon types are pretty balanced in terms of damage type resistances, iirc most mountains enemies are neutral to all 3 physical types
(and even vs stone golems, it's not as extreme as it is for say bonemass, they regular resist (x0.5) pierce and slash and are neutral (x1) to blunt.)
Can you guys teach me how weapons work
For example damage types
I'm trying to understand why mace is better than atgeir for sunken crypts
there are 3 physical damage types, each weapon type deals one of them with the exception of knives, which split their damage 50/50 into slash and pierce.
each enemy has their own resistances and weaknesses to these types, they can be immune (x0), very resistant (x0.25), resistant (x0.5), neutral (x1), weak (x1.5) or very weak (x2) though very resistant (x0.25) and very weak (x2) are pretty rare.
the first 3 show damage numbers as grey, neutral shows them as white and weaknesses show them as yellow, but it gets a bit confusing in how the colour is decided π
for example DoT damage actually becomes "true" damage after the first hit, so while it is still reduced or increased based on resistances, the damage numbers will show as white either way.
and also, if a hit deals multiple types, the colour is decided by the biggest percentage before resistances are applied.
f.e. a hit that deals 20 blunt and 30 fire will be the colour of the enemy's fire resistance/weakness, even if the fire ends up dealing less damage because of a resistance.
