i'm with you on that, i'm at the mountains in my current run through. i honestly can't tell why exactly, but i also haven't set up a boar farm in a little while so i can try and set one up the same way and see if i can get it to work

#

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EEFQYD4fM8 I've partially tested this design (I didn't include the auto killer) on the current version of Valheim. Should work fine; not sure how it translates for wolves, though. Roof didn't seem to be an issue when I tested it.

#

Should be translatable into a dug-down pit for simpler boar positioning, too, but I didn't test that either. (I did however increase the height of the drop portion to account for the boars not auto-dying.)

Hello everyone. Friends and I are playing on G-portal dedicated server. Due to unfortunate situation, we lost our 2 stars Boar farm. I'd like to spawn two 2 star boars as replacment. If I get this right, we can't use devcommands on dedicated servers unless I install dev commands mod and add myself in the admin list in g-portal serv. Both things are done, except nothing is spawning with the command [/spawn Boar 1 3]. Anyone could please confirm if we can or not spawn boars ? thanks a bunch

sorry it took so long to respond, i built a breeder both for boars and wolves using the same build you did. both worked perfectly fine, other than double checking the height requirements the only other thing i can think of would be making sure the feed is accessible by the animals. i used a half wall (with the lower half being the exposed part) instead of a full wall so idk if that made a difference

if you're on steam, open valheim's properties and add -console to the launch arguments.
then in-game (after a restart) press F5 and enter optterrain.
i don't think it requires devcommands to be enabled, but if it returns "not valid in the current context", just enter that one first.
it's possible optterrain also works in the chat if you add a slash to the start, i vaguely remember that, but i'm not sure. worth a shot.

  1. How do I transport my boars to another place? Any easy way?
  2. How to Kill Stone Golem? My iron shield/armor seems to not help here
glossy cave
#

Hello, very good everyone. I have a problem in Valheim, the game freezes and the second I get the disconnection icon I have no problems with my network and nor the driver problem because it is the only game that this happens to me. Has this or similar happened to anyone? I can't play it because of this problem, I don't know how to solve it.

echo sparrow
#

@scarlet girder there's really NOT an easy way since there are no functions presently in game to get them to easily and consistenly follow you the whole way there--a few tips to do it as easy as IS possible right now, (1) tame the boars as close as possible to where you intend to move them to, or IDEALLY DON'T even tame them until you get to where you intend their permanent home (aggro them, and just have them chase you, the whole way there); (2) enable friendly fire and hit em with a harpoon to drag em (3) use boats as much of the journey as possible, get them on the boat pushing/harpooning, and building a wood walkway over the boat with them on it, then pushing them off or breaking to get them on the boat deck

#

keep in mind, tames will go crazy and try to leap off the boat to attack any hostiles along the way (e.g. serpents)

@quasi vault yeah and he may need to uprgade to silver shield, unless it's just low block sill, i dunno how iron stacks up to the golem attacks for parrying

foggy stratus
#

Hi ..
Looking for some "betterContinents" maps except from nexus .. anyone knows anything?

quasi vault
#

Iron buckler is just slightly worst than the silver shield, both are plenty capable to parry golems on normal difficulty and barely on hard

echo sparrow
#

ok, so he should be fine then so long as he times the parry--which, admittedly, I ALSO find golems one of the mobs I miss parries most on lol

#

it's the weirdly long PAUSES, and differing lengths of them, on their swings I thnk

mellow lodge
#

i agree. stone golem attacks are oddly paused. the spike variant is easier for me

quasi vault
#

Yeah same, but when I figured it and knew how to time it with the audio queue instead of the weird paused animation I could parry them consistently

echo sparrow
#

yeah some enemies the sound is way easier to time it based on--like wolves too, I find the visual attack animation doesn't line up with the timing quite as well as their growl

With charred warriors, sound is the only way to tell if they're doing a feint or not before it's too late.

I was afk for 45 minutes, so the crops could grow. To my surprise the entire rows of carrots (from carrot seeds) are gone. What did I do wrong here? And yes, I surely planted them

tired root
willow jungle
# tired root Either: 1. They have no enough space to grow, that row looks kinda tight? Or 2....
  1. There was enough room to grow, not on all of them, but for 95%. I placed some of them too tight (according to the message you get when you hove over the crops with your mouse), but not all of them.
  2. How come that exactly the carrot rows are gone, and not the other ones? The other crop farms are onions and turnips. Not sure if this is important information, but the wooden beams were undamaged
tired root
#

I recommend having a wall around your crops so enemies can't target them.

echo sparrow
#

and maybe their pathfinding couldn't reach any other rows

quasi vault
#

Necks love carrots

tired root
#

Necks hate turnips and onions apparently

quasi vault
#

I believe you are making it harder on yourself doing rows like that because you can plant less in the same space while having to be really precise when placing the crops so that they are not too close to the beams

echo sparrow
#

certainly, adding the wood cross beams, just takes away potential crop planting space and adds an object for them to be "too near" and thus not grow

steep tusk

It's fine for Mistlands, yes.

Primary thing that matters is your food tbh.

topaz owl
#

i think its good cuz it can slow enemies

steep tusk
#

If you think it is good, what we think doesn't matter 🤷‍♂️

mellow lodge
#

also, the important things are in the low valleys, in my experience. don't waste too much time climbing up high. some coastal stuff too

frail cave
# topaz owl i think its good cuz it can slow enemies

the reason it's a fan favourite is because going off of damage numbers alone, assuming all weapon skills are equal, it's the highest damage pre-mistlands weapon you can enter mistlands with against all seeker-related enemies because those resist pierce, slash and blunt but none of the elemental damage types (except spirit, which is unsurprisingly ignored)

steep tusk
#

The important things are in the mines 😉

#

Winter saying I am not a fan of the game 😭

frail cave
#

the freezing effect is of course a neat bonus, as is its low stamina cost due to being 2 biomes old by now, and the fact that you're somewhat likely to already have it because it's a generally great weapon in every biome ironically after the one you get it in

mellow lodge
#

the low stam thing is real. i remember when i first switched to Mistwalker with a low sword skill. it took some time

steep tusk
#

Hard disagree on the "great" description. 💛

frail cave
#

never the best, but so damn close that it might as well be

mellow lodge
#

and then there's a segment of gamer population that likes to be contrary, and will diss frostner just to be different... lol

steep tusk
#

Assuming I don't have actual reasons... nice 👍

frail cave
#

it's the fact that it's so good in all 3 of those biomes that makes it an easy choice for me

mellow lodge
#

hehe

steep tusk
#

I have stated my reasons many times.

#

I do not find it good at all post-change.
It used to be my favorite, now I hate it.

mellow lodge
#

aha, maybe i'm blessed by not knowing how they changed it

frail cave
#

knockback got buffed

steep tusk
#

Context: Have you used the Wood Club?

mellow lodge
#

granted, i liked to use a lot more different weapons

#

sure, i use wood club at the time i'm exploring burial chambers

frail cave
#

annoying if your goal is to quickly kill an enemy with a low damage per hit weapon.
but then you get to ashlands with enemies that won't hesitate to hit you as soon as they get up to your face and suddenly that knockback isn't looking so detrimental anymore

mellow lodge
#

i usually skip bronze mace, but make iron mace

steep tusk
#

So you know how when you're using the Wood Club, it doesn't launch people away from you, allowing you to get in multiple strikes and actually kill your opponents faster?

#

That's how much knockback Frostner used to have.

And then they said "Hey, let's make this weapon actually work against the user by not allowing them to hit things multiple times."

mellow lodge
#

🤷 the knockback is just a factor of the weapon i enjoy. yes, it may be slower, but it's unique, and has it's own thing going for it

#

i also love 2-handed hammers. i'm all about knockback

steep tusk
frail cave
#

himmin afl was carrying my survival in ashlands until i realized how well and effortless frostner does its job of keeping enemies out of hitting distance hehe

mellow lodge
#

Mistwalker stamina usage was ROUGH at first, after lots of mace/frostner/2-handed blunt

frail cave
steep tusk
#

By the time I start my second swing, they are still staggered from my parry 😉

frail cave
#

...coulda done that with frostner too

steep tusk
#

And get only 1 hit in because it launches them.

#

Frostner knockback BS is the one thing that makes me consider modding this game.
But given it gets outclassed and becomes obsolete 🤷‍♂️

mellow lodge
#

slow+knockback of frostner looked great for charred group management in ashlands, when i was watching some videos

frail cave
#

mistwalker was among the weapons i was cycling through for the first long while, but despite its perfect damage type coverage for the biome, it performed the worst for me.
granted, that was way early, when spawnrates were...something.

steep tusk
#

You know what is even better for group management? Killing things to reduce the size of the group.

mellow lodge
#

granted, i haven't played melee much in ashlands

frail cave
steep tusk
#

I respect your opinion and understand the majority love the weapon.
But the one aspect they changed is the one reason I will not touch it.

mellow lodge
#

i was generally underwelmed by Mistwalker. But i think that's because Frostner was so great for me for such a long time

#

Mistwalker is probably balanced well. While Frostner isn't

frail cave

mellow lodge

i think Nidhogg is significantly better, though of course it's a tier up

Nidhogg seems so good at stagger in comparison

lilac coyote
#

Basalt bomb super useful.

frail cave
#

it should, considering its damage is mostly physical

#

-# at least frost is the one elemental damage type that actually makes up for its detriments with a unique benefit in the form of the freezing effect

mellow lodge
#

i think lightning also applies to stagger

frail cave
#

not counting lightning because that one's basically physical - it staggers and is instant

frail cave

mellow lodge
#

morgen's are weak to it also

steep tusk

coupled with the stagger, it's literally the perfect damage type for atgeirs, as their "only real weakness" is pierce being often resisted

what do we think the best like upgrade for the flametal weapons is

steep tusk
#

Depends on which weapon/context of fight.

#

And your food.

#

Generally, melee is lightning or blood. Ranged is primal or blood.

#

If your food is HHS and you can actively manage having at least 30% of your HP gone, blood wins unless facing 3+ targets, where lightning shines until you kill it down to the last 2.

#

So carrying 1 of each for melee and switching based on context would technically be "optimal."

worthy thistle
# willow current theres like 60 enemies

yep it looks unbearable until you take out the spawns. so the way I do it is a 3 step process. first take out the spawners, there are 2-3 in each strong hold, second start hitting the warlocks the best way you can, I do hit and run tactics, (after the spawners are dead you can take it slow). third, start taking down the numbers, after the warlocks are dealt with it's just a battle of attrition. so to recap, kill spawns, kill warlocks, kill adds. after you do that, you have an imortal base that you can build on.

willow current
#

yeah we got it

worthy thistle
#

side note if you have speed gear and you feel good about it you can drop in, do a couple circles to mess up their ai, loot the chests to get some gems and bail, ngl that strait is risky but it can work

Stagger = Stun + Damage Increase

true steeple
#

Every attack with physical or lightning damage deals stagger. When an enemy has taken enough stagger (usually 30-50% of their max health) within a short time, they will be unable to move, attack or turn and take doubled damage. Parrying also staggers enemies.

crisp yew

Just start now and take your time (if you don't normally).

If you get to the swamp, see if you can burn through it with only one swamp, so you leave plenty of other places for the new content to spawn.

We started with one of my friends during ashlands ptb, and we didnt regret it, even though there were some issues. But glad we didn't wait, since we got to enjoy some stuff earlier without having to replay.

But okay, I guess that's just my opinion. Some other might disagree. I would go with my gut.

Some questions about breeding/taming I am missing on https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Boar?so=search#Breeding and https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Wolf#Breeding. I am kinda deep diving into the ingame stats here.

  1. Boars can breed, provided the boar is happy and well-fed with carrots or other crops
xxx As far as I know, boars don't eat ||onions||?
  2. How many times every X seconds or minutes do they eat 1 crop?
  3. ..., the boar will accumulate love points with one another until the pregnancy starts
xxx How many of these 'love points' do they need to make a baby?
  4. How long does it take to get 1 love point?
  5. Do you need to be close to the boars, in order for them to breed? I remember when taming a boar, that I needed to be in a certain radius of the boar, otherwise the percentage wouldn't change. If I remember correctly (this was 2 years ago) it was something like 64 meters
frosty frost
willow jungle
willow jungle
# frosty frost They do, 10 minutes, 3 iirc but not sure it should be on Wiki under just breedin...

Thanks @frosty frost!

  1. 👍
  2. Is this the same for all tamable animals, 10 minutes, or does it differ per animal?
      1. Ah, the breeding page is hidden under the taming page, that's why I couldn't find it. *Successful love point is indicated by pink hearts. After gaining enough love points, the creature becomes pregnant, which is not visualized *. It doesn't say tho, however the breeding is checked every 30 seconds.

Anyone having game freeze/crash on world save?
For me its okay for up till i get to swamp .. but it really depends, the more i travel and explore, no matter the biome, it will crash 50% of on save ..

I assume that if i would be somehow to delete the world i have traveled, it would fix it?
Is there some command, mod for this?

Or any other idea for the crashes during world saves? Its local save.

you can actually make almost everything from mistlands without beating 5th boss, but navigating there would be almost impossible

#

game freezes on save is not uncommon .. you can find topics about this for years .. though crashes are rare
and as i said, like first 5-10 hours, its okay .. the more i travel the world, the high chance the game will crash on save ..

saving time also goes from 0.5 second to like 10 seconds ..
In my first game i had no idea about this, my goal was to explore 100% of the world, got unbearable by around 40% of the world .. saving took over a minute
always have to start new game after a while to remove this ..

But in a past i remember one guy who was admin on some server said he had same problem and was using something to reduce the save file .. which helped him reduce saving time

i start new game, save file is like 2MB .. after few hours, my current save is 380MB

frail cave

and honestly most skills don't even really need to be deliberately leveled, usually the equipment is strong enough as is it's just a nice little addition, bows being perhaps a big exception because levelling the skill buffs them in multiple ways with both draw speed and stamina cost (plus just raw damage per attack) improved, and at low levels the whole weapon class is way less impressive but with levels it becomes one of the best

no, the only enemies that can despawn are ones spawned from special night spawn conditions or from invasions

fervent bloom

Aight

#

Also holy shit the silver sword is great

frail cave
#

yepp, they were pretty generous with its numbers

fervent bloom
#

i suppose it helps that my only comparison is my iron axe which is 1 biome behind and slow

frail cave
#

true, axes are maybe a little underbalanced

fervent bloom
#

one thing swords can't help me with is 4 DRAKES

frail cave
#

but still, the silver sword's stats come from a time when spirit and fire damage didn't "stack", as poison still does(n't) today.
each hit would completely cancel the previous hit's remaining DoT ticks, so you'd lose most of the damage advertised by the tooltip, which is probably why they gave it such high numbers.
but now they do stack and the numbers haven't been adjusted, but the much newer silver knife and crystal battleaxe are balanced around how spirit works now, and are thus noticeably weaker

fervent bloom
#

scratch that FIVE

echo sparrow
frail cave
#

in terms of stat balancing, the crystal battleaxe is such a sad weapon to leave as the last of its kind for so long. i doubt they'll remain the last at least.

tired root
echo sparrow
#

I would be very sad to see no 2 hand axe in deep north--id slept on the battle axes until very recent when some folks were talking about it, and so I tried it out, and I can see why it has fans

mellow lodge
#

i'm looking forward to a 2 handed hammer in deep north

frail cave
#

yeaaa i really think battleaxes need something even before deep north.
the crystal battleaxe kinda immediately falls off in damage type coverage since frost caves are the last point for a good while where spirit damage really matters.
plains have one semi-exception in the form of growths (though i really wouldn't recommend using any battleaxe against them) and one good exception with yagluth.
mistlands? nothing.
and by ashlands, your damage total is already 3 biomes behind.
all that is made worse by it just not having very good damage for its weapon class, even against enemies that take spirit damage.
it's most certainly useable, but i think it wouldn't hurt balance for it to be a little stronger, and for plains, mistlands or ashlands to have a new one

mellow lodge
#

i'm guessing that the berserker axes in ashlands are meant to fill the two-handed axe slot

frail cave
#

well they play the complete opposite way 😅

mellow lodge
#

yeah, i know what you're saying. but they are axes, and take two hands. so check 🙂

frail cave
#

true, they deny a shield, but i kinda think the defining factor of a two-handed weapon is the lack of multi-target penalty coupled with wide reach and lower single target dps than one-handed weapons

mellow lodge
#

just like Skoll and Hati are technically a knife, but very much not

frail cave
#

like, nobody's gonna choose a battleaxe over an axe because they don't want to be able to hold a shield - they choose it because they wanna deal with groups more easily

#

i mean, in practice the reason is most likely "it looks cool"

tired root
#

Two handed playstyle rarely depends on blocking but keeping enemies away from you with their attacks, like Atgeir secondary attack. Battleaxe also has some knockback on its attack pattern and secondary attack even more (althought it is not AoE like Atgeirs)

mellow lodge
#

it's going to be tough for devs to top the "feel" of the deomlisher, imo. it just feels so satisfying

tired root
#

Some changes for battleaxes to make them better IMO would be changing the movement speed modifier from -20% to -10% or -5% and little speeding up the first attack. And also adding a new Battleaxe before Ashlands tier.

frail cave
#

perrssonally i think its slow startup is part of the charm, and what sets it apart, especially considering the following moves roll pretty quick after that.
maybe a slight attack range increase imo

#

-# i definitely think the secondary attack should have more forward reach, so many times i see it just clip through enemies but make no contact

tired root
frail cave
#

but they'll insist it doesn't need to be changed just because it works as a weapon
my fists work as a weapon, does that mean they're good?

#

i really don't think changing the melee hitbox of spears a little would catapult them from "good weapon if used right" to "completely overpowered smh" hehe

mellow lodge
#

when was the last time weapons were tweaked?

frail cave
#

axes received a secondary attack with mistlands

#

there might be something after that but that one came to my mind first

tired root
jovial ledge
#

does fish spawn at the same spots?

frosty frost
#

Ashlands weapons had some dmg tweeking but thats probably not what you are talking about 🙂 also maces got higher knockback at some point iirc

frail cave
#

they spawn randomly in valid locations

#

like basically everything in the game

tired root
frail cave
#

H&H made the attack speed of axes slower and increased their damage to set them apart from swords (though the increase was a bit small and so their dps dropped while their breaking points stayed pretty much the same)

#

H&H also decreased the backstab bonus of knives from x10 to x6
it also iirc added the stamina cost progression to weapons, previously each weapon class would just have a universal stamina cost.

#

oh and it "nerfed" bows but also buffed them and ultimately it's just a buff Ragnar_laugh
the rate at which their draw speed increases with levels was lowered, but due to animation weirdness, there already was a point at which you physically could not shoot faster - instant shooting was impossible even at 0 second draw speed. and this max rapidfire speed can still be reached, just at later levels.
meanwhile, they made it so drawing an arrow starts to cost less stamina once it's fully drawn

echo sparrow
#

here's the current move speed breakdown (ignoring armor, which, you can mix and match in parallel/independently so seems reasonable to me to ignore for this purpose) if I got it right:
-0%: knives & fists
-5%: polearms, 2 hand sword, 1 hand weapon no shield, magic weapons, bows & crossbows
-10%: buckler & round shield + 1 hand weapon
-15%: flametal tower shield + 1 hand weapon (unless the wiki is just wrong, I almost never build tower shields so didn't test myself, but it stands out as significantly lower than all others)
-20%: 2 hand club, 2 hand axe (scale tower shield + 1 hand weapon)
-25%: tower shield + 1 hand weapon

#

having heavier shield, more defensive = slower, logically makes sense to me

#

WHETHER it's necessary to put the 2 hand clubs & axes, on a much worse 'tier' than the 2 hand 'spear' (polearm) or sword...i dunno

frail cave
#

(also i guess i should give the mistlands sword changes a mention as much as i still doubt that they were intentional:
one-handed swords no longer have multi-target penalty, and i think one of their hitboxes was buffed slightly?
keep in mind that two-handed swords do have multi-target penalty, which is a weapon class that was added in the very same update, i really think they just confused the two swords when trying to remove MTP from 2h swords)

that wouldn't entirely surprise me

frail cave

as in giving MTP back to 1h swords while they're at it

steep tusk
#

tiny violet
#

does Multi Target Penalty mean that if something swings and normally hits for 150 dmg, it hits 2 targets, then it does 75 dmg to each? Instead of 150 dmg to each? is that what MTP means? thanks

frail cave
#

it's not a split as much as it's just a reduction, you lose 33% for each target

echo sparrow
#

it's a little better than just splitting among targets, but yes

tired root
#

I'm using Slayer and it does have multitarget penalty.

frail cave
#

so hitting more targets at once is still more total damage than just hitting one

frail cave
#

but where it becomes troublesome is that terrain, trees, rocks and other things also count as a target, so fighting on uneven ground or in tight corridors will usually reduce your damage

tiny violet
#

ahh i see thank you

tired root
#

Sometimes in Infested mines there are small spots where you hit on 'terrain' even thought it should hit the target

#

All that wind up for secondary attack with 2h Swords and ... miss

frail cave

that's also why standing on top of rocks is better for mining them - smaller chance you're hitting terrain in the same swing, the pickaxe hitbox reaches pretty far down
