you don't need to start over, you can continue playing on it. although if you explored ashlands, the generation around there might look weird because terrain generation changed there.

It's a good idea. I can tell you exactly how to get them, but starting out it helps to just explore and discover

Your main goal at the start though is just getting some gear, some food, and once you feel confident for it you have to kill a boss in the meadows, then venture into the black forest and find some entrances to underground caves.

Be sure to give it time to try and open the world, even if it says its frozen though. For me it took 5-10 minutes to open a world in the ptb, and it kept saying the program wasn't responding. I just left it to load and eventually it got there

You can build good bases yourself too. Especially with the new shield generator and some ballistas you can make an awesome base

I had this because of (a corrupted?) worldfile. Try to move your whole configuration dir away and see if it still crashes. The restore config, worlds and characters and restart at each point to see what causes the crash.

I don't know what he's seeing, but it's normal to not see structures and flammetal spires right when you land in ashlands. Lava and trees are from the update though, and there should also be non-surtling enemies roaming the area

Your friend could use devcommands to force a environmental update...don't remember the specific code but I do know it was introduced back when mistlands looked like a spider based biome.

After the update, the map changed and the bottom became sea water without a foundation. This means that this Does the house have to be given up?😢

This is the danger of building on a non-released biome. Either you give up or try to mod/devcommands some landmass for the house to be rebuilt on.

Are you sure there aren't any mods on the server that are required on the client end as well? That's the only other thing "incompatible version" could be referring to, if mod versions mismatch.

I generally make a resource section, under which I feel all the types of wood, and stone falls. Flint is a type of stone so fits in well. Seeds/resin/feathers are gotten when cutting trees, so it's easy to just quick drop everything into that section after a woodcutting trip

Often because I'm lazy I'll also put one or multiple "drop" chests somewhere in my base. Whenever I come back from adventuring I'll just dump everything in there, and then once stuff starts accumulating I'll go and sort it into the right boxes

It's possible that the version it says you or the server are on ends up being different from the version that is actually being used. It's hard to find much info on the matter but that seems to be something that has come up a few times when searching for info on the error.

Go look for the vegvesir again, sometimes during world gen updates boss locations can "move" if you haven't actually explored to them yet, but the location marked on the map does not change.

Only the true admin or host can use commands

You can't use all commands with admin rights, only kicking and blocking of users basically. Only the host can do that, and on a dedicated server even the owner of the server can't use commands.

Hi, weird bug here, I am playing multiplayer with a group of friends and one of my friends crashes quite regularly. He seems to freeze without warning and his freezes causes a small area around him to desync with the server and becoming uninteractable. His character will be stuck in the animation of whatever animation he was doing before the crash and on his first attempt to rejoin he will get a failed to join message and his crashed character will dissapear, on the second rejoin his character will join as normal but he will lose about 5-10 minutes of progress on his character. His crashes are very regular and he has crashed 4 times in the last 10 minutes, he does not get any crash report or error message.

They're not that big of a deal imo, the ||bonemaw serpents|| are much more deadly. But your ||Drakkar|| should be ok for the most part if you ignore one of those. When you see land, don't park if you see some ||red shiny looking stones near the shore|| you'll have a bad time.

The game often becomes unresponsive and you just have to wait a really long time (2-4 minutes) for the world to be generated.

Let the game run when it's loading, don't alt tab or click around too much. To upgrade a world to any new version with world changes, the game needs to run some heavy processes that makes Windows think it's stopped responding. You just gotta wait it out, it'll be a couple minutes at most and it should only happen once.

I don't know. I'm assuming the update is blocked for both. But if you try loading the game and see what version is reported at the bottom, that will answer the question. Ashland update should say Version 0.218.15 (n-27) in the bottom corner of the menu screen. If it is below that version, you haven't updated yet.

If it is your first time opening the world since the update, it will take a while to update the game world file. Just wait a few minutes and it should continue. If it takes longer than 5 or 10 minutes, there may be something else at work.

Feed them berries or carrots, make sure there's not a fire too close by that will spook them, typically i use stakewalls to enclose them from being able to see out so they don't get spooked too easily by your presence. They won't despawn once they've started taming, and you'll see yellow hearts popping above them while they tame. It takes about 30 minutes.

I haven't experimented with mods at all. I play vanilla valheim but since I made a large base on plains I get around 10-15 fps max with 10-12k instances.(Note that on open spaces or in Ashlands I have a stable 50-60 fps, sometimes it drops to 30-40 depending on how flooded the area is).

My specs are gtx1060 4vram
Intel i5 7300hq
16 gb ram (2.6mhz speed ddr4)
And lastly a pcie4 ssd

I am on a laptop so unfortunately I won't be able to upgrade either CPU or GPU , and mostly my problems are caused by my CPU in particular since running games on low graphics or in some cases med-high doesn't rly make a big difference.

Then you can use the console to turn on devcommands and then use pos as command.
If you point on the map in the seed viewer you can see coordinates and that translates to the pos you are on the map, first and last number of pos are the coordinates used in the seed map.

You are both right. 30 minutes seems like there is something else going on. But 2 to 5 minutes to load is okay, as long as there is some indication that the loading is going on. Perhaps put a warning on the screen that the game is loading, please be patient, even if the game stops responding.

Well there are a lot of possibilities of where they could be, if you go to one it won't show up at any other location. Sometimes the locations aren't 100% accurate but you should still be able to find them at or near one of the locations provided.

If the raid started at your base, and you portal away, the raid will pretty much pause until you come back. I think the raid timer will only keep counting when you're there, so the raid won't end until you go back and deal with it. But mobs won't attack your base when you're far away, so they'll just be paused in place

Only continues when you come back. Leaving in a portal just puts the raid off until you come back. Still gotta deal with it ;)

I think the one exception is "you are being hunted" raid, which I think goes away even if you leave the area.

Instances are usually CPU and memory bandwidth limited, not GPU. The support system, all that has to be calculated and refreshed regularly and that takes cycles. The more instances you have, the more things it has to do each cycle, and thus slows down.

The game overall is pretty well optimized, there are just limitations with Unity in general. Engine updates have gotten us decent performance improvements. The other thing would be just cutting work that the engine does, so we wouldn't have the stability features for building, etc., and that would fundamentally change the game for the worse. There might be some super clever hacks that the devs can do, but it's very hard to know as an outsider what is possible and what has already been done.

Ok. I explained the issues with the support calculations, and that is directly tied to instance count since it's almost all in your builds. Checking the connection and stability of every piece, every engine cycle, takes time. Then add the rendering pass into that. The more pieces you have, the more time it takes. We're just running into laws of physics at this point, and the only solution is to a) not do that, or b) reduce the number of instances.

There's currently an issue getting the mainline release out on XBox, but they're working on it. You can use the Flight/beta release in the meantime if you want, it is the same version as the main release will be.
