yeah, try sailing around the coasts of black forests. The icon on the map pops up so far away that I was on my longship when I saw it, and he was a good ways inland.

Try going to the server status page, it should have FTP connection info there. I use FileZilla to access my GPortal servers via FTP. There you can manage your server files, and see your backups folder.

Tehe, well since the game is running on GPortal hardwares then the game messages are probably referring to the GPortal side like you say. Maybe it's a different memory issue, if it turns out your save folder is indeed empty.

If restarting the server doesn't help, contact GPortal for help. I told them we were having lag once and they figured out some hardware problem and replaced it right away.

Oh really, cool. I Think I will contact them cause this was odd, I logged out of the server and it took me back 20 minutes, not a huge deal but still could be detrimental in the wrong circumstance. Otherwise their service has been super smooth

I have never seen that yet. It is likely a hardware malfunction. The game is running on a virtual machine, dynamically allocating resources to users. However it's likely storing saves on a separate unit that's malfunctioning.

Another idea is maybe a corrupted save file. If you connect with FTP, navigate to your Valheim server save folder and look for files with unusual sizes or recent modification dates that coincide with the error occurring. It would be best to back up your saves before attempting to delete them.

So I expect to see more issues from here to launch, then things settle down a few weeks later. well definitely dont lower the difficulty for sure. i feel like we're in the same mentality where you enjoy a brutal challenge? with that being said, theres a lot of ways to get around the harder enemies without dropping back to normal. for example, root gear is a light armor and therefore isnt going to do much against a heavy hitter like the golem. if you want to tank attacks from him youll need at least wolf armor with bonemass active. you can also use wolf armor and at least a fully upgraded serpent shield to keep yourself alive. the dungeons in the mountains are a terrible place for root armor too because there are enemies who use fire, and root armor is weak to fire

they are playing on hard mode, so theres a pretty substantial increase in damage taken. even with wolf armor you can be nearly one shot playing on hard mode. im currently doing a hard mode run so it's fresh in my mind

oh its so much fun. i wouldn't wanna do a solo hardmode run, but with one other person it makes the game interesting. i personally believe that normal difficulty is just way too easy if youre playing with even one other person, so hard mode helps a lot with that. it only sucks when your friend leaves and youre building alone and get a raid event which you have to solo lol

Im playing hard mode. I do agree normal is too easy. I got one shot even with the best swamp food, bonemass power and the banded shield

thats probably the best way to go. when i first encountered golems in normal mode i was getting wrecked by them, so in hm i wouldnt mess around with low tier armors. also, i always skip iron and jump straight to silver. its abundant and easy to mine, with very little requiring it. iron has so many uses that creating an iron set feels wasteful considering you unlock wolf armor shortly after

Do you make troll armor? The defence difference to bronze is tiny, you save bronze, you can actually move, and you aren't going to use troll skin for much else.

oh absolutely. in fact, troll armor is my throwaway get-your-shit-back set. i have chests full of sets so i can grab and go because trollhide is crazy abundant

one i really wanna try though is the mountains light armor. fenring i think its called? in my first game where im solo, i have 2/3 pieces to the set. that movement bonus is so attractive, but the materials are crazy rare. might just be my seed though

I did that with Mistlands, and it wasn’t nice, even though the parts I’d explored weren’t terribly large. It just felt messy and disappointing when I actually wanted to pursue the new content from the nearest access routes.

But the update also forces world gen changes on the borders connecting to other biomes, so if you try to build/explore something there then doing so in those areas would be a terrible idea, forcing you to go more inside, which would result in generating even more of the biome

if you feed it and it takes damage, it'll show that healing +0 as it heals. (if it's fed, just like you)

tamed creatures won't attack other (hostile) creatures of the same type. Wolves won't protect you from 'You are being hunted' and boars won't protect you against other boars.

A couple of screenshots would help a lot, both showing the materials in their inventory and showing their miscellaneous tab in the build menu. Occasionally people are mistaken on the materials needed for things, so a screenshot (vs just what is being claimed) is far more reliable info.

I don’t think there’s anything else you can do, but I’ve never tried transporting animals

If you have a better bow now you could probably kill a serpent before it kills the wolf

Breed it with another 0 star wolf, cull all 0 star cubs when you have at least 2 wolves or cubs with 2 stars. Breed a wolf army on the island you found them on and keep a backup pair in another base on that island. ONLY once you have a backup pair and a wolf army at least 10-20 strong, transport them across the most narrow part of water you can find and spawnproof any land path you’ll take through more dangerous biomes, get transporting. That is how I do it

Yes follow, go slow. Serpents still an issue but better chances if you have many wolves with you. Don’t sail at night or in storms and take short water paths where possible

This will take time to make a small army on that island but is a better way than transporting your only 2 star solo

Depends on the magic you want to level.

Blood magic --> find a greydwarf spawner, dig a hole under it, make a small baricade so the spawns can't reach your skeletons, place some archer skeletons behind the baricade and afk.

Elemental magic --> find a spawner dig a hole and spam fireballs into the pit.
Summoning skeletons and then fireballing them with friendly fire enabled is also doable.

To speed it up use the staff of protection and stand at the spot the spawns appear, they should get a hit or two in before they die and that gives exp as well to blood.
You can dig a slightly deeper hole and put a campfire in to easily get rested bonus.

Trying to avoid hits by jumping or rolling rather than blocking/parrying is very good against starred enemies, especially later in the game, because they’ll stagger you and make your block fail

Whenever the game loads a world from a previous version of the game, it needs to run some heavy processes to update the world to new content. Depending on how old your original world is and into what update you're updating it to, it might take a while to upgrade.

Try again, don't alt-tab out of the game or interact with your PC while it does its thing, give it a few minutes to work.

After it eventually loads fully, the next time you open the world should be back to normal speeds.

The boars have to be close enough to each other for long enough to breed, so keeping 2 in a more closed in space for a bit of time to produce more faster, then letting the new ones grow up and mingle with the others on the bigger space they'll eventually start breeding more in such a large space since more will be closer to one another for longer

I see the issue with terraforming impacting performance. I did not experience in the past, but found that a heavily terraformed base tanks performance, however it is only using 30-40% of CPU and GPU. Anybody aware if this is still being worked on? I could understand if one or other was maxed, memory maxed or a core maxed, but none of these is happening.

The more you build in an area, the higher the instance count and the higher the instance count the more likely you are to have an FPS drop. We tend to suggesting limiting builds to 10-12k instances unless you're on some sort of supercomputer. Lights are also a known drag on systems.

New guy with a question: This game have Biomes, and from what I've research each biome has different resources and STRONGER enemies. But each biome has a boss or some sort correct? So I can't, as a new guy, just wonder around aimlessly and enter a biome of death (strong enemies). Yes, the game has biomes. Yes, each biome has a boss. You can totally enter a biome you're not prepared for. Biomes generate as you explore, it has nothing to do with boss progression.

Nope. You need at least two farms to grow all the foods in the game, one in the Plains and one in the Mistlands. You can grow everything except the Mistlands food in the Plains.

As for where to move... both are good 😉 you just need a portal to a farm in the other, whichever you decide.

It's not a Valheim issue. Xbox/Microsoft is the one preventing your connection, which is what the error message is saying. What does it do when you hit A to resolve the privilege issue?

Lots of stone, a hoe, and a pickaxe. Any spot that is uneven, either raise it with the hoe, then flatten it to the level of the surrounding area, or hit it with the pickaxe, then flatten it with the hoe. Rinse and repeat until it's all flat

This is a really random question, but with the Dead Raiser blood magic weapon, is there a difference in defense between the sword skelett, wood shield and sword skelett, and the bronze buckler and sword skelett? Depends on the specifics. If you are running a server and used the "ban" command, there is a "unban" command as well. If you are a player and got banned, you will have to contact the mod of that server. Same applies (contact mod) if it was a Xbox moderator that blocked you from the game entirely.

You can type /resetspawn then /respawn in chat to revert your spawn point to the sacrificial stones and respawn there, if need be.

Are you talking about different things? A join code is for joining a server and can be obtained from the server admin. There's no join code for PTB.

I don't know for sure, but backing out of the PTB by reversing the steps you took to join (in theory) should work.

I think there are only 2 chat types, and I think shout is default....haven't used that function in a long time since I play solo. If not, I think the chat "remembers" what you used last (shout or whisper) so just use /s to start and all messages after that should be shouts unless you /w. Could be wrong though.

No it definitely defaults to small area chat without manually typing /s. Goal is to talk to my family across the world without having to type /s before every message. Looks like mods are the only way and this is a known gripe for a while but never someone may know something I dont.

Most people talk via a Discord call or similar, I don't think many people communicate using the chat function.

Keep killing them 😕 They're a pretty low drop chance, but you're also having super bad luck if it's really over 30

Yes. It's a 5% chance to drop I believe, so you're on the low end of luck if your numbers are accurate.

IIRC, you can build anything on the area outside The Queen instance. Just build a box and put the portal in it.

My friend got real busy though so I started a solo play through and completed everything including mistlands, so when I went back to play with him mistlands was the one place I had more knowledge than him

I think it's like 500m or something, but don't worry too much about it. The way the terrain is changing you won't ruin anything if the very edge gets generated.

I mean, you can do it with no shield and just roll out of his attacks. But if you parry with the buckler you have higher defense than just blocking with the banded, even if parrying bosses doesn't actually stagger them.

roll through his melee attacks, kill the enemies when he spawns them and don’t stay in the poison cloud for too long when he makes that. Otherwise just use your mace, but make sure you don’t run out of stamina

Yes. You can parry him too, but that uses more stamina than rolling and wont stagger him so there’s not much point.

Some enemies later in the game can be too strong to parry even with good armor and health food, so you should try practicing rolling at some point

Yeah. So, best way to do it is to use campfires to block off spawning near the pen, but even more importantly just let lots of them breed and they'll take care of themselves. Having a huge herd is the best protection for them.

I had a world on my old PC that I wanted to look at, but steam cloud didn't back up a .db file for this world only, but it did for all the others.
First of all, why?
Second, is my world unrecoverable without it?

Also would another player who joined when I was hosting store a .db file of their own?

Yeah, the .db is critical and contains the majority of the information 😦 It's pretty much unrecoverable from steam, you might have local backups if you switched the world to local? No, another player won't have it though. Only the server/host stores the persistent world info.

Yeah, unless it was set to be a cloud world it wouldn't be backed up like that. Older worlds were by default local I believe, so that might be why.

Upgrading a world from an old version to a new version with new content will run some heavy processes in order to update the world. It usually takes a few minutes to load, all you have to do is wait it out - don't alt-tab out of the game or click too much while it loads.

You could try a bowl, like leave the middle intact and make a ring around the outside with the kilns and furnaces
