Do these mountains have the chance to spawn in any seed?
Your seed uses a small circle of the master map
It doesn't pick and choose islands
Canon. Like in a book fandom, what the writer says is canon while any fanfics are not included in the canon. What the devs say is canon while community made stuff are not canon
So.....technically my map could generate inside the circle of one of the peaks I'm gathering
Yeah
My latest map has Hook mountain on it. And it's VERY steep. It's a Moder mountain and has only one egg place. But tons of frost caves.
Neat. Another reason to explore lol
are the three unlabelled pointers to the 4th 5th and 6th tallest mountains?
No idea
make a ramp at the top and place a longship then hold on π nearly broke my game
In short, your seed is a circular cookie cutter cutting a circle out of the master seed
Rallz, that island is almost identical to one I have on my map π its where my first base was
no wonder my seed has no ashlands, it must have been cut out of the center
(this is sarcasm, very illegal here)
The bottom of the map will always be made into ashlands π
But ever since ashlands update it will no longer match the land shapes from the master map
the master map is only for terrain height, nothing else. the world seed puts an offset on the noise instead of changing how it's generated
it's awesome.. ill tag you with some pictures
when the damn fog goes away
@frozen voidthat map is a mod? And wath is the name of the mod?
No
It's not a mod, you can see on the edges it's screenshots of multiple world maps put together
think of it as a sourcemap for topology of your world
Someone just patched together screenshots of the map, either from ingame or the map viewer website
ok ty
@nocturne wolf @frozen void how do i tell where my map is in the master map?
look for similar island shapes
@granite grail https://medal.tv/games/valheim/clips/mJH3GXiJt7nMsUpSm?invite=cr-MSxSVzgsMzkzNDI3NDQ0&v=243
it's a work in progress. also the reason the recording is slightly lagging is because my game did not enjoy when i tried to change lodbias
DANG those builds are insanely impressive :OO they look amazing. But yeah the elevation on mine is significantly lower lol it doesn't look anything like your elevations π the canal is crazy work. I don't have patience to do all that work XD
thx, and yes landscaping in this game pisses me off π
thats kind of wild if presumably someone played this game SO MUCH they could recognize chunks of land and just know where they are in master map. what all is randomized after the area is chosen? terrain height? rivers? poiβs? trees? berries? is the answer way more complicated?
Yoo any tips to kill a troll? As a begginer
pretty much as blob said, theres a noise filter added including rivers and shifts in biome coverage
some landscapes, like huge peaks, are just very distinct and after enough time playing you start recognizing some repeat stuff
theyre weak to being poked really hard
(piercing damage) theyre fairly slow and bows do good damage against them
Wdym when a one chase me i cant even run from him π
dodge roll and spear
Try either dodging or parrying if you got the bronze buckler
you can sprint in small bursts and make a large amount of ground, and they have to path around some trees and rocks at times
How about finewood bow with flinthead arrow will it work?
Trolls can be killed easily with lvl 1 crude bow and wood arrows.
You need about 20 wood arrows.
Probably less.
I killed 3 bears with that but im scared od trolls are they harder or easier than a bear
yes if you like kiting and running around, its not a bad idea learning to dodge roll things now so you dont spend your life running and bow only
there are going to be mobs who resist pierce
but there isnt going to be pierce that resists mobs
Now I feel kinda silly I just logged onto my map and it doesn't look at all simlair apart from the river in the center idk why I thought it was that close π π«£
personally i believe at lower levels trolls are actually easier, but thats exclusively when both are very deadly to you
if youre using arrows WAY easier than bear, bears resist pierce trolls are vulnerable
I killed a bear with a bow π
i find bears easier to parry, and trolls easier to dodge
Don't. Bone shield and flint axe work well on bears.
i was gonna warn you to learn melee because of bears, but i guess youve already felt that pain and how long it took. if youre down to play like that against other things throughout your game go for it
@granite grail i mean.. it's a river but nowhere close to the shape or size of my island π
Bte guys is it true going to swamp for the first time is 100% deadly?
No.
Every biome is a step up in difficulty. You just need to be prepared.
Lvl 3 troll armor, lvl 2 bone shield, lvl 3 bronze axe is good enough for all mobs in the swamps.
haha, if you havent prepared and know nothing its bad. but dont google and discord too much and spoil it, that goes for the whole game
Troll armor is bwtter than bronze?
the swamp is my least favorite biome in the entire game to deal with (in a positive way mostly)
More important: Be always rested, don't go out at night, and ALWAYS have the best food you can make.
Troll armor has slightly less armor then bronze. I skip it, because bronze is a LOT of work to acquire.
bear armor my goat
troll armor is better on movement as well
thereβs no gotcha that kills you 100% its just a difficulty spike but there are ways to survive easily, dying is part of your first playthrough just have fun
And NEVER EVER land in a swamp with a boat.
For me the Plains will forever feel much safer than the Mountains π€£
Unless you're hopelessly overgeared.
How has no one mentioned ||poison resistance?||
Mountains is easy peasy.
for the same reason you spoilered it
mountains is a stamina check more than a mob check
not much of a spoiler to say bring the potion
Yeah. I mean at least on default difficulty.
ill choose how i speak thanks
If I have to run through mountans or plains to get somehwere I'm picking Plains lol
Oh you just gonna LOOOOOVE Mistlands. π
it's like telling people the be careful of the THING that happends to everyone when entering plains for the first time π€£
well id say bring aβ¦. pierce resist mead, not anything about the thing
haha, cuz pierce gives away anything, or other damage types for that matter
if you wanna say those things, go for it
i choose not to
I've beaten Fader bro XD
are early axe heads placed randomly on each seed, or are they consistent with eachother and the master map?
Root harnesk. That thing has never been a threat π
the master map is only for terrain height. I think even multiple worlds with the same seed will have axe heads in different places because they're chest loot
I haven't tested that though
and for that matter
I sure as shit didn't use that the first time i went there π¦
#screenshots message is that the same claw shaped land mass?
the thumb of the claw is at about the same position in both screenshots
How to gwt poison resostance potion
@merry pebble thank you!!
gotta be able to brew which takes being in or getting into the bronze age
I like to sail up next to a swamp, hop out the boat to gather a few things, then hop back in and sail off
make it in your potion kettle, then ferment in the fermenter
you should have the recipe unlocked
as long as you dont hang around too close to the boat for too long, enemies wont destroy it while youre gone
has anyone tested which sword is better for yagluth, silver or blackmetal, both maxed
Silver is BIS for Yagluth, Frostner is worse because of how spirit damage works
Blackmetal sword is a great weapon, but not for Yagluth
ah Frostner and BM sword might be tied that is possible, I don't know the exact numbers for that
Theyre all 3 good, silver is just best
imho I would not call the Silver Sword good, its god tier in this case, call it powerful or something it deletes him maxxed out haha
Also IMHO Silver Sword is the best looking sword in the game
Level 4 frostner does 113 dmg per hit
Level 4 blackmetal sword does 113 dmg per hit
Level 4 silver sword does 138 dmg per hit
22% increased damage!
Yeah, the others are still good, but its definitely better.
Better than porc or atgeir for example
meanwhile battleyacks users
does frostner slow yagluth?
it does but not enough to be useful. frost damage slows everything but it's more effective when taking a higher percentage of their health
IIRC not notably.
if shooting yagluth, what are the 2 or 3 best arrow types?
frost arrows will be best but melee will be so much better, even with elemental arrows the base damage on the bow means you're mostly dealing pierce
use the time you're standing back to regen stamina instead of spending it on arrows
what if... i sometimes pop stamina potions and shoot him in his head
not every time...
are needle arrows inefficient for this purpose?
yes
Hello Iβm on Xbox is there any public servers I could join?
Btw is there any info about realease date of deep north update? Im to lazy to search
no updates, still nebulous
The update remains in its "When its ready" state
okay it is that what I suspected, horse inside of studio is more important than game
dont say it to me, i dont make it
it was a long time waiting for mistlands, then it wasnt a long time for any updates after that, so im kinda just vibing about it
it is kinda sad bcs valheim had such a good start and creators just ignored that succes
If it wont be very big update i would be disappointed
I also hope for ocean update before 2028/2029/my funeral
the ocean update that used to be listed in the now-defunct faq channel?
Nah i dont even know what was on this channel, i just have in the back of my head update of ocean. They can put there so much content
It was in a roadmap they've since made a departure from.
Generally agree, more ocean content would be very nice. I don't have high hopes it's actually happening though.
#screenshots message may i ask?
Whatβs the spawn code for serving trays?
If I leave through a portal while an attack is underway, will the attack keep going?
Apparently the answer is yes.
Itll pause
raid is 2 mins, ticks down only when someone is in the raid area, even it you see the area on minimap but too far away the timer still pauses (also 46mins later another raid can spawn which will end yours in that location)
Well. My whole new base is rubble.
feaster
OMG. Ok. So the trolls were bad news, right? But a bear and a swamp raid was no problem.
lol i just got "a smell from the swamp" and im sitting at the entrance of my home holding my battleaxe like "...... hello?....... where IS everyone?" and i hear this faint "rRrrrowwwwr" and this no-star bear was just holding the line against everyone, was about 1/3 dead, i let him live because he's such a boss. first bear i saw i didn't kill. might even name him.
Feed him
Ok. I managed to get my base set up with some fencing. I doubt it will hold, but it's a start.
I think its a solid idea to always focus on defending your home. Especially for your first play through.
Hey all, longtime player but new to the discord. Been working on a fun website I've called Longhouse Listings. I've posted more info in the self-promotion channel if you're interested in more. thanks
big fan of the idea, i hope youre not put off that im initially a little skeptical though, with scams being so prevalent
definitely not lol what makes you skeptical at first?
no need to create an account if you feel that way also.
as this is just an alpha, proof of concept more or less, the seeded listings are bad atm lol. I have a few more things I want to tighten up then I am going to go through all my previous worlds an build some real listings
That is extremely funny, was way better than what I was expecting
Well done!
thank you! I'm a software dev and have done some personal mods for the game before but wanted to just make something silly
That UI is π€
If I could give any input, Iβd say add a filter for modded/vanilla. if there isnβt one already.
omg you don't know how that made me feel. the basic apps is so simple took me no time. The ui I have been working on forever! ty ty
mostly just that a particularly intrepid scammer could do something like this but with a malicious link, tldr me being arguably too cautious
no offense taken and I get the skepticism. I am not collecting any data or anything like that. not sure what I can say to assure you of that but this is just a for fun site for me.
when you say modded/vanilla you mean search listings that were made in modded servers vs vanilla? Love it
no worries ill just give it a while then if its still up ill poke my head in
Yep, exactly that!
check out the mortgage calculator, you can do that without signing in. thank you for all the feedback!
that has been added and will ready for my next deployment
love the idea
Greydwarves, the eternally damned souls of murderers and outlaws, - or just Troll-magic constructs to guard their lands.
Whoop, did not mean to reply to that. - Discord be like that sometimes
Anyone has a rough idea when the 1.0 release is coming?
Nope, when done
... Would be neat if we could make decorative Tin Vikings.
Something I like to do is building near some big stones, chop down wood and push it against the stones to make a barrier that will serve for base defense till I can get the pickaxe and dig a moat.
To cross the moat I either jump or build a "cattle bridge", basically build a bridge with a door in between and when you are done with the bridge, remove the door, so there is a small gap, it breaks the monsters pathing and nothing can get to your base.
You can still build a roof over it, so it doesn't get water damage, you'll just have overlapping roof pieces at a certain point.
I then place "core wood candles" around the base so nothing can spawn in and I have some lighting around the base and surroundings.
Corewood candle: Place down a standing torch, add a 2m pole slightly behind it, then grab a 2m corewood pole and with free placing aim at the 2m pole and slide it down till only the top of the standing torch is visible and place the corewood pole, then remove the 2m normal pole.
This way the torch will act as spawn proofing and mobs will not attack the torch.
You can also hide torches in corewood poles and they won't break so you can have spawn proofing around a small building without the need for a workbench or other spawn proofing methods that won't fit the easthetic.
This isn't my idea but it does work.
I just did my first proper build in Valheim, in the plains last night, and I gotta say, I'm so proud of it built a moat, a two story house, and lots of space for crops, a furnace area, ect ect, Something I always struggled as a solo player playing valheim was the grind, putting materials to 2x literally solved this π
For certain things I would really like the 2* material drop but for other things I think it would diminish the game too much.
Like for things you really need a lot of and take time like iron, wood and stone, putting those on 2 would be nice.
Though for black cores, boss summoning items, I wouldn't like getting 2 of those items, because you have to do that once and it leads to exploring a biome or multiples of the same biome.
So I'd like it if we could mix and match what we would like two of and what not.
Yeah I totally agree, I wish there was JUST a resource setting, like 2x Wood, stone, Metal, ect ect, it always feels a bit cheap getting 2 surtling cores out of one, but eh, I live with it, because Solo play, the grind is real.
totally the way that devs intended it to be played
I am totally opposite, I have so many resources yet lack the creativity and a bit lazy to build stuff
I been using the same base since the meadows and just expanding it to fit the new stuff (it's just a big square with wood)
longboat is so fast and it finally has some storage in it
a bit harder to maneuver throug the canals
found out that going backwards gives the boat lot more maneuverability
I wish the paddling speed was faster, it's the same as Karve's basically
i'm quite amazed that one man can manage to move such a beast but i can take it
was definitely intended to be manned with men with oars
i'd consider it only if it had trucload more of storage space but otherwise seems like an overkill
my base is inland and accessible through a canal only
You need it for Ashlands so it's a pain to ride it
Especially with manevouring all the damn spires
No intention other than making your sea experience even more miserable than it already way
what do i need it for? hope it's not a major spoiler
You know how you get swamp key to unlock crypts?
from defeating the elder
It's something similar to that
That's all I can say without spoiling it for you
don't see how is that related to drakkar
sailing along the shore and spotted 3 deers grazing, hard to pass that opportunity
would like to make some nice proper shore base at some pont
any suggestions on defenses against drakes?
I can think of Mistlands-level content that could help but not sure if you're at that point
i believe krom is still pretty freshly in the mountains?
they do go down pretty quick to decent bow skill
A bow and arrows or a crossbow. You wonβt have anything else until late game
If you have crossbows then you can have ||balistas|| π
I would have thought you would lead with punch em.
You have only two fists π sometime thats not enough for base defense
i was thinking of a passive defense
Then I think Subject's response is pretty much it, to put it succinctly.
ok then
Dig a hole big enough to put your base in, floor it over or roof it, make a trench out, it will keep your base safe and anything that is in the hole should be relatively save from drakes.
If something else comes to mind I'll yap about it, but largely when they're a nuisance I just try to put cover between us and ignore them lol.
I build bases in meadows near mountains and go from there, no troubles with drakes that way and a just bit more running.
I've never built a mountain base but supposedly it has the least raids
I like building up there but it does have its hassles. Including the terrain itself, if you like to build wide like I do.
Core poles and beam connected to the mountain can make for a pretty wide build, but I don't like to build in the mountains as well.
this was mostly theoretical to know what to do if i increase size of raids
i can handle it with bow on normal but it coudl be an issue with more enemies
tbh even with increased rates i dont feel like i saw drakes more than once, but that is entirely anecdotal
had 3 raids so far with them
fair enough
i know they felt more frequent for me before raids got expanded a little
Against drakes it is, for all the rest, tame some wolves and have a wolf army or dig some moats.
If you progress past the mountains and further on, drake raids will lessen.
Also if you make sure you are not within 40 meters of at least 3 base structures (https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Player_base) no raids except for the wolf raid will happen.
I think this evenings Project for me will be expanding my Plains base, I made a really nice house to live in, now I need to attempt a dock, I always struggle with Water building, ships are so much better to use with the Passive Powers Mod, literally being able to swap powers at any time, and just have Modor's Passive active, which no spoilers but I'm sure you can guess what it is, It's made the Ocean infinately more fun for me to traverse.
In one of my playthroughs, there was a "rule" only sail with the winds and see where it takes you, sometimes it was a pain to follow.
Especially if you were almost home with a load of metal and then the wind decides to turn, so that was either break the rule or make landfall and cary the metal the rest of the way, or go exploring till the wind shifts again.
Sounds like it would be easier to sail with the wind until you find a nice spot near metals to make a base
Oftentimes that was what I did. Though I had a main plains base and sometimes metal needed to get there.
My plains base is directly opposite a swamp, next to a black forest, and has mountains kinda near, so Even though I have a mod that lets you teleport metals once certain progression points are met, I don't really need to use it, I have all metals reletively close.
I've been watching Jakk's Hardcore Valheim playthrough, man, Playing with no Portals, AND No map is kinda crazy, like, I would legit get lost with nomap
Nomap is easier than u think but super fun
Nomap was more fun than I thought but for me it was a lot easier to get lost than I had expected. That was also paired with no-portals though
Guys is troll armor better than bronze for swamp?
Preference. Although there is no huge difference in armor value and troll armor doesn't slow your movement.
And troll one is much easier
There is bear armor too which has armor value in middle of those two and if you don't use full set you won't get the weaknesses from the set bonus.
Is there something a bear cape?
I wish. Would be warm and cozy
I killed 3 trolls but im atruggijg to find more
Bears are more common.
They appear when you donβt want them there
They also stay away when you do want them there.
Congratulations you have found one of the three vendors.
Return after each boss you kill and see what he sells.
I'll be the judge of that.
Is the thing who gives +150 capacity worthM
Meginjord should be your first purchase.
For me it certainly is and I think for a lot of people but that also depends on your play style.
Once you start mining metals that extra 150 carry capacity can come in really handy in hauling 10+ extra ores.
Ya. Then you buy a back up one.
ores are so heavy π
did anyone beat the game with just fists without any excessive cheese?
Think many people have yea
Though most may have been pre-ashlands. Not sure if people have done it after Ashlands update
i'm guessing there isnt enough visual information to answer this question? #screenshots message
also.
i'm having trouble seeing valheim seeds
if im looking at the correct bulges, the little island southwest of the mountain bulge is inconsistent. but explore a little more if you really want to know
#screenshots message how did he get cart on the ship?
Sent a reply pic to screenshots π
i do it by building a little stairs and platform above the boat, lining it up carefully, and deconstructing as fast as i can lol. it takes me a couple tries sometimes without it falling off the boat. also sometimes when it loads in the cart is off the boat. its not entirely reliable.
thanks, might try it someday
karve is more maneuverable compared to longboat
Might not be with the cart on it honestly xD
When full it affects the ships manuverability severly.
oof
Carts on boats sounds worse than boars on boats
does that mean I can't just uh
drag my cart up a stair and then let myself with the cart fall down, onto the boat?
Like what will happen then? The cart just detaches from me and sinks under the boat?
You can do that too. The cart will likely hang up on your platform though.
they often get caught on the gunwale of the boat when you try to haul them aboard.
pain
Lox on boat tho?
exactly. easier to build a platform over the boat, angle it directly in front of the mast then push the cart off or destroy the platform quickly.
Why would anyone put a lox on a boat?
To bring it home from different continents?
I have experienced this first hand in the last run with my friends, there were 3 expeditions to bring 2 loxes home
In the first trip the lox somehow was damaging the boat all the way, and as soon as we reached the shore, the ship was nearly smashed to pieces lol
The second trip was sadly a disaster, but it was the game's fault I would say. It was smooth sailing, the lox was calm and still. However, for some reasons, the lox position started to desync from the boat, even though client side on the rider, the lox stayed perfectly still in the middle of the boat. And then the game decided the lox was no longer on the boat, then suddenly they were floating on the ocean.
Nothing too bad happened in the third trip, thank Odin.
Boat trips aside, riding loxes through enemy territories is not fun at all lol, especially swamp. It was stressful from beginning to end, and I wasn't even the rider.
That being said, it was fun. Messy but fun
Our rider had a memorable gaming experience for life
thank you.
whats the best first thing to make out of iron?
Nails
then stonecutter
I am looking forward to create smth that will help me in swamps to farm easier, cuz im having hard time there...
iron sword for abominations, iron mace for everything else
Lox is boat tho?
Limited distance boat
alr so mace
but nails and stonecutter are very high priority
Hmmm..
Sword or axe and mace. If youre good at parrying, make buckler, if yourd not that good make banded shield
make banded shield either way because it looks better
So good they made it twice
I used bucklers up until Black Iron when seemingly bucklers were phased out
Parrying in Valheim is so clean
I'm currently in Plains, looking forward to getting into Mistlands, I hear the weapons really ramp up.
Yeah and you get your buckler back :)
Im at work wondering if its fun and worth it to make camping stops with a lox or just take the boat
Both??
Their stamina regens very slowly iirc
Google said 16 m i remember eternity
I dunno If I will go back to Bucklers, I might, but I really like the safety of the shield, and you can still parry with it, though tbh, I am REALLY enjoying the Black Metal Atgeir too, first polearm I've used
Seems about right
what is 16 m about
Thats fair I lile the bucklers speed :)
240 points. 4 seconds per point. 240*4/60=16 minutes
I wish they would fill the weapon and shield gaps :(
when beautiful viking (should I refer to them as something else?) said to make camping stops for lox, was that about loxes on land or on water?
I am genuinely confused since the topic was concerning boats
They said camping stops with lox or use a boat
they did....
And my question was more like, is this on the same island? The choices of going from point A to point B within the same landmass, not separated by ocean, would either be riding a lox with pit stops, or going around on a boat along the coast?
since you said loxes were limited distance boat, and then the topic of regenerating their stamina came up, I had the assumption that the plan was to swim on a lox while trying to regen its stamina in between??
That sounds absolutely absurd but I know too little of the game to actually tell
Ok, I want to know if there is any information from the developers about the update
Same as always, when its ready
Valheim dev team pweeeaaassee give us more info and release estimate time fwame... I cant take the suspence!!! DX
BTW my whole year is dependant on if valheim 1.0 is released or delayed to 2027
Patience, young Jedi
Release it on New Yearβs Eve.
bucklers have the same -5% as shields
I knowwww :( I just like to think im faster
You can call me beautiful, viking, beautiful viking, Eric clapcheeks, or jake, Im not really picky. I was wondering if it would be fun to ride a lox across water, and plan it out so I dont get stranded mid ocean with a stamina less lox. Ud have to feed them on land.
hey jake do you object to being called lefranz
Quite the opposite
okay cool just checking
i think if i call you LeFranz people will know who i mean easier than if i call you jake
what is the plan exactly? I'm still confused on that
Clapcheeks it is :)
Fill your inventory with metal. Hop on a lox. Ride it across the ocean. Uh oh my lox is running out of stamina. Find land. Land. Feed lox. Continue journey
Depends on the discord but yea
When your lox is running out of stamina, how do you know you and your lox would be able to get back to land?
Theres a stamina bar for the lox just like there is for you when you ride it
the black metal sword is worse than the silver one lol
Also planning
so like make sure your routes take into account lox's stamina?
fulings are as i hear immune to spirit damage so it has situational usefulness
Yeah it was just an idea I have never tried it. But i do like stuff that maybe takes longer but is funner
Oh i had no idea
well I suppose
I just feel like there might not be routes across ocean narrow enough to swim a lox over... Or maybe I am traumatized over the one time I saw my rider friend and her lox stranded in the middle of ocean...
I just learned something new about you just now
I sense sarcasm πΉ
Nooooooooooooo(me falling into the sar-chasm)
nice one
a lot of stuff is immune to spirit
like basically all of mistlands
and the bm sword is used for that too
Killing bonemass with fishing rod =/= funner if anyone was wondering
that's beautiful, viking.
that you tried
It just took forever to clear a village with the sword. It's so much quicker with the silver knife/ sword. That extra 2 stamina it takes more than the silver sword is significant when spamming the heavy attack
i guess it depends on can a silver sword 2-shot a goblin or not like a blackmetal sword can. if theyβre dying to 2 swings either way lower stamina would be better i guess
Not to mention, stamina issues have multiple ways to become a non-issue.
Tasty mead, trinkets, set bonuses, etc.
suppose it only matters on brutes, one less swing or 2 less stamina per swing, probably doesnt make any big game changing difference
PARRYING
Parrying, forsaken powers, high skills
The list is long for mitigating stamina problems. π
parry parry parry βyou guys dance while my stam regens a bitβ
i cant think of a weapon that isnt 1 hit stagger 2nd hit dead for goblins
well. 2 handed hammers i guess are like 7 hits.
Yeah, wishbone 2.0 needs a buff.
ehhhhhh it does plenty damage for being no brain smash everything around me, but it can have some mediocre primary attacks
Yeah, just comparing it to other weapons that also do that, it falls quite short.
it should though, or give it smaller aoe or something idk
makes a big difference when youre cancelling attack animation lol
wonder what would happen if I use the berserkir mead along with vile set in battle
wym canceling attack animations? glitch swinging?
The hidden jutsu of the heim
You dont want to know the forbidden fruit
Indeed brother
marty
Lizard
nah i know about it, it's so stupid it doesn't tempt me
do you guys think 506 Onions is enough for a challenge run where I cannot eat red-health food?
or should I plant more
Is it gonna take u 506 onions to get 506 bread
yeah
onion soup great second food idk
Then u might need to plant a few more
shoot you're probably right X_X
live on feasts
closest you're gonna get to having enough health
True!!! I need to utilize feasts in this playthrough π₯²
Hi. Haven't played in years and recently started a new world. Need to work on storage. Besides the obvious Wood, Stone, Food signs/storage. What's your go to list for storage and how many chests?
Wait, does anyone know why the grausten buildpieces aren't turning blue when connected to flametal pillar? Seems like a bug/oversight no?
i dont think i ever have a set idea of how many chests i want, i tend to have a warehouse for overflow and bulk items i dont necessarily have a ton of uses for (i am a notorious hoarder) then chests that turn to barrels for within the crafting areas, segregated in a way such as "this is the raw ore barrel"
i generally dont get rid of anything other than maybe bone fragments
I would just leave room for expansion and expand as you go, trying to nail down exactly what you'll need is tricky, especially because everyone plays differently, and the game isn't finished yet.
Same. I dont want to lose anything and I've just remembered how overwhelming it can get from the start. Cheers for the heads up. I'll make a few sheds and for now and see how my horde grows
Cheers, yea guess I'll try and keep what I think as valuables at my main home and crafting items at different outposts
Don't know why, just assumed there was a generic list for storage items everyone just has and uses. The grind begins
I'm sure there's a list out there, or one that someone would write out for you if you really want it!
nothing concrete, though i guess early on i do prioritize certain things first
like wood, i spend like the first five hours of a new world just living out my lumberjack fantasies
then i do it again when its mountain time to make my PatentedLogCabin
Nah bother, cheers for the help. Sure I can find something online
Anytime π«‘
Yea. I can't wait to finally get to craft stone. Last time I played wasn't long but now I've gotta make up for some lost time. One day I will have my castle π°
you need a
Personal preference plays a huge role for storage. What I think makes sense might not make sense for you. At the end of the day what makes it easier for you to access stuff and remember where it is.
sailor's bounty especially. not like you're gonna be able to do anything else with that serpent meat π

why isnt frostner-1 called frostnel
XD
serpents bounty the goat
Drfr
It's insane how viable the fenris set is in mistlands despite the low armor it has
people often underestimate mobility in valheim
I love me some Fenris set to just give into the zoomies when they hit.
mistwalker is great because it makes foes less mobile
Explored an entire mistlands island, killed all sorts of creatures there with fenris set, a level 1 black metal shield, draugr fang and silver knife lol
Run and Jump are the two most important skills in the game for surviving, as far as I am concerned. Then it comes to blocking and weapon skills.
Dodge roll!
Farming. π€
Heh, I've been playing since well before there was a farming skill.
ikr? It surprises me how popular mace and sword is
Some of my favorite weapon types π
The types I like best are the mace, axe and sword. Plus bow.
Knives my goat
Knives were my goat. Along with spears. Allow for a lot of movement
By now I've shifted to fist weapons. They're basically just all the upsides of knives, but better and add in the benefit of having a stagger weapon instead of mace/battleaxe/atgeir
I swap weapons every biome so to me weapon gaps don't matter a lot
any news on the playstation announcement?
Only info we have is still 2026 π
Guys i did something cool i transported two baby lox from the plains to the meadow it was a lot of work but ok xD
is there a specific channel to try and find servers to join?
Lightining is the best damage type in the game by far
No wonder you didn't get anything that deal lightning damage till the Mistlands and Ashlands
You'll want to use #1024264966712340510 π

Haven't played in years. Started missing the game. Is it still regularly updated? If so, can it be played solo or do you sorta need a group to do some of the content?
It is still being updated, and you can play either way as it is balanced for either!
Glad I scrolled back for this one. Thank you! I saw a video today that discussed the cattle bridge and some other moat etc. techniques., so this fits.
The corewood candle technique sounds interesting.
#screenshots message
there's TONS of new stuff added dont look at any spoilers or videos just play it and love it again!
Damn, starred seeker soldeirs are no joke
My first time in the mistlands there was a 2 star at the top of some spiral stairs in an infested mine. I decided it was his mine at that point and didnβt come back till I had an ember staff.
I figured out how to semi cheese them pretty quick, they suck at climbing more than I do, and they can't fly
Yep, the stairs were what were keeping me from progressing in that mine though and I didnβt have a shot with a bow lol.
thats happened to me lol, i couldnt even get up the stairs to fight it, the thing just plugged it. i think i threw a spear at it a hundred times til it died
Frost arrows work well for them too
The first cave I dove into in the Ashlands to save myself from the swarm of crap outside... spawned a two star Morgen.
It was a whole thing.
man, there's no dedicated servers to play on lol
i put some questions on the help chat if anyone can help me i will be very greatfull
i mean join a guy who host ;o and pray u2 have similar play time haha
you can filter #1024264966712340510 by dedicated servers
There is a thoery I alwasy come back to. The scale for measurements to real life in the game is broken
It is lile a 2:1
either modded or super old
The normal bad for example, sits on 2 wooden floors, those are 2x2m in the game
The bed is for one person
In real life that bad would be almost 2x4 meters
And the viking nicely fits in it
Imagine a 16m square room, pretty big, that would only be 2x2 wooden floors
And the dragon bed, is almost 4x4 meters!!!!!
Thats two Fiat 500's
A twin bed IRL is 2.1m by 3m, so it's not far off
What, Canadian king??
Oh wait I see the flag lmao
A not American king lol but let's not go there
Usually a twin bed is max 2x2m, and thats a big bed, that is only a single piece of wooden floor
Actually we measure those things in feet a lot here
The normal door, small one, would be 2x2m in real life
The viking is gigantic
If somebody wants to build a house from real life in Valheim, 1m from real life is 2m in Valheim
I think the rule of thumb is to add 40% to indoor videogame spaces or they feel cramped
Especially in third person yes
Plus yea in the third person a camera can't follow you indoors from above and behind you with 8 foot ceilings
The viking is bigger so everything feels small
This is a nice dverger village and I want it. I shall murder them all π¦ΉββοΈ
You know, I havent paid any attention to the staircase proportions
I want to see if they follow the L+2h=62 or 64cm
I alr know it wont lmao
The small staircase is 1m tall
And it has what, 4 stairs?
5???
Its to scale for the viking
Human steps being 64cm and the Viking a bigger human
Checks out lmao
So if you ever want to replicate your house in Valheim or such, use an 1:2 scale
I have to hunch my back to fit into the door.
why do the devs hate piercing damage?
ive invested so much into my new splitnir and ash bow with gems and ive just discovered basically everything resists piercing
id also really like for spears to have a chain mechanic where when you throw it you can reel it back in like a fishing rod
instead of running headfirst into the enemy
abyssal harpoon upgrades when
would be cool
eh, that would obviate the risk of throwing it off a cliff, which I find a really neat mechanic
huh? why would you throw the spear off a cliff?
Because you miss
um, okay
I just want to attach a string to a long stick, man
It would be a nice upgrade I think, I don't use spears much though
I just want actual ladders, man. Not steeper, bouncier stairs.
I would rather ask why the Devs hate Bonemass. It has become a complete joke. Being a tank stopped being viable in certain situations because Bonemass pretty much stopped doing anything.
me too but in a different arrangement
#suggestions message made a spear suggestion, please go check it out and let me know your thoughts π
Upvoted, you convinced me
what is wrong with bonemass btw? What was it like before
I only fought it once with my friends, I was just staying afar and firing arrows at the thing, not really knowing any better
Bonemass was too strong initially, I can agree with that. But they have nerfed it completely. It barely mitigates any damage now.
In certain situations, where you will need Bonemass, it is now completely useless.
Oh... I am talking about Bonemass's boss power, not Bonemass itself.
Bonemass is really just a tutorial boss. Pretty much a pushover.
On default difficulty, if you're prepared, you can kill it in five minutes.
But I'm talking about the power it grants, which used to be a massive mitigation of any physical damage. It was too strong initially, but now it's practically nonexistent.
oh rip
Bonemass is pretty useful against a lot of damage (starred enemies, high difficulty, or if you have light armor). But if you get a lot of armor already facing some enemies with wet noodles, bonemass isn't really gonna help
speaking of forsaken powers, which one do people use the most
Think it's gotta be Eikthyr
First one you get, hella nice in all stages of the games, good for exploration, resource handling, and combat
Eikthyr, Elder, Moder, Yagluth are currently my top 4 I think, using bone less now
Moder I'd think might be the 2nd most popular
Splitnir is great there, especially Primal and Thundering versions. And not everything resist pierce just charred and Morgen (which resist also blunt and slash). They are very useful against voltures, asksvin and fallen valkyries.
Might be good for Deep North
deep north release, real
fair but the secondary attack is really just horrifically bad, it really needs a rework or a way to bring the spear back to you without running in head first
itβs not that bad if youβre in singleplayer, the biggest problem is other players picking it up
it is that bad, disabling yourself from using a weapon is the worst possible thing you can do with a weapon mechanic.
if itβs a melee enemy youβre throwing at they wonβt be able to hit you either until you get close enough to pick it up. just donβt throw from too far away
Well, when I'm entering my first infested mines with BM gear and come face to face with two one star seekers, "wet noodles" is all I got. It's the best I can get at this stage. Bonemass needs to protect me against attacks from stronger enemies, because I WILL be hit fighting multiple enemies in tight corridors. It currently is no longer capable of doing so. It definitely needs a rethink.
You can't dodge-roll out of every situation. You need to be able to kill your enemies and survive!
when using fire hazard option in world settings, is it normal that hitting a stack of wood with fire arrow turns it into coal? Thus bypassing a need for kiln?
Yeah, that can happen.
any fire damage will do that, not just arrows
intended feature then
I actually love the ability to throw it since I don't need to carry a bow.
thats crazy man, you gotta carry a bow
And it is great initiative attack against unalerted enemies.
i agree, its great for sneak attacks
I have spear.

I will never get how anybody can like the spear as their main weapon and not even use a bow. But I guess different people, different strokes. π
i find it hard to predict the trajectory but it's quicker than bow and less stamina too
I love my bows lol can't live without them
I accidently put my ash fang into an obliterator and haven't made one since
i see a lot of people using spear throw against trolls
The memory is just too painful
Well yeah spear does pierce damage and troll is weak to pierce
Also you can hit his weak spot with the spear throw
if one was able to set different secondary attacks and swap them as needed, that would be cool
In vile gear I'd actually think bonemass has huge value
But based on your playstyle, I assume you're more the padded armor type of guy
Getting vile gear in the first place is noterious
That damn trophy is such a nuisance
More weapon comboes/attacks would be very cool
I feel like devs want to keep it simple though π
Trolls have a weak spot??
Their head
it does make sense
They take double pierce damage on their head
Huh I thought only seeker soldiers had actual weak spots
Seeker soldiers, Trolls, and Gjall
Off the top of my head
Gjalls also have weak spots
Those are the only ones
anything else?
no justthose three
Okay yes I forgot the gjalls XD my most despised nemesis
Not that it is in anyway explained by the game. I mean gjall and soldier is kinda obvious, but troll really isn't. and if you do discover it, you probably expect ALL headshots to do extra damage, but nope only trolls
Gjalls become such a breeze when you can hit them in the weak spot constantly
Can kill them in 30 seconds easily
i do like that game isn't balanced around headshotting enemies, have hard time hitting them as it is
It would make the bow even stronger than it is and keep people from using melee
If you can see them up there in the fog XD I hate them they're always showing up when I'm busy. You can't ignore them or get rid of them you always have to fight them it's annoying. I'm usually not ready
Fact
There's nothing as good as sitting with like 1 carapace spear and vile armor right under a Gjall and just rapid firing into its guts
It explodes in seconds
Same they always jumpscare my when I am trying to do something
I don't think I've ever encountered the legendary 2 star Gjall
was punching a bear from behind under and i can't but think that nut hits must have hurt a lot
not as quite as when I was burning him with a campfire
Have him trapped in a box
Slowly burning to death
what is seeker soldier's weak spot
Wish I had known that when I was trying to kill it with a bow... I ended up running and out of stam most of the time, then died to ticks :(
It's the little shell behind it
painful indeed, you could double it with nut hits
if it is chasing me then I guess I can't ever hit that...
I would recommend parrying, jumping over him and hitting him there to stagger lock him
I see
The exposed end of the abdomen
I play as a tank. Heaviest armor, shields, one-handed weapon (mostly swords).
I rarely dodge-roll, I need to be able to take a hit, or two, or three.
Parryig than?
I haven't encountered a 1 star and I'm not complaining π
Tower shields can't parry. And parrying becomes useless if you face more than one enemy in tight situations.
If you try to survive in a fort you don't parry, you try to destroy spawners.
I actually find parrying better against crowds. Can parry multiple to stun them and buff your damage without depleting your stamina or becoming staggered, then retaliate
Parrying is king no matter what
Besides even when you are crowded it ain't hard to parry
Just gotta stay calm and assess the situation
But against crowds I prefer not to parry or block, but rather pick enemies off one by one with damage, or stagger the whole crowd with a battleaxe or something
Props to you for even carrying a battleaxe with you
I'm talking about confined situations, like mines and forts.
Used to hate them, but they really shine sometimes. Especially in dungeons
Battleaxes are goated
I'm NOT talking about open areas.
i wish we had better bombs for ashlands
Forts are in no way a confined situation
You have plently of space to operate with
They absolutely are if you've just broken the door and are greeted by the welcoming committee.
Than create some space
wouldn't atgeir secondary shine even more?
guys do i enchant my ashfang with lightning or blood?
I made the proustite bombs thinking I could toss them from my hands. Imagine my disappointment and disgust loll
never with blood
atgeir secondary always shines
That's why I never use it
Don't enchant anything with blood
i thought the slayer was amazing with blood
Nothing is good with blood
It requires you to lower your hp to be usefull
For a meager damage boost
I need to destroy spawners to prevent more enemies from coming. "Space" is something I don't have in that situation.
doesnt it also improve the base damage of the wep by a big amount?
so your issue is that game is too easy for you with some weapons
Slayer can be pretty fun with blood, dunno if I would necessarily say good. Blood is just all around pretty risky for only a slightly ebtter buff than lightning and jade
But blood crossbow is pretty neat. You can go down to low hp while in a safe spot, then do a blood crossbow sneak attack. Can oneshot vlakyries
no
it actually add nothing compared to the 10 poison or lighting of the other two
what other weapons do you find too easy ? π
Thundering Berserker Axes
i remember watching a video and seeing the blood slayer being the highest dmg in the game you can achieve but was unrealistic to do
Slaughter anything and everything
yeah because if you lose like 50% of your max hp, you get a meager 10% damage buff
idk man blood fang looks so fucking cool
Yeah but it ain't strong
Jade or Lightning is better
Blood in genearl in valheim is just too weak, they need to rework it or buff it
Atgeir, bows, staff of protection, staff of wilds, trollstav, staff of embers
Basically atgeir, infinite health shields, and most ranged weapons are kinda easy
Never used magic once in valheim
Just go with the blood than
Killing people while looking cool is a good part of valheim as well
ok, ranged are easier in most games
atgeir is somewhat balanced with the primary attack being resisted by many enemies
wish that battleaxe had such a cool secondary
also pity that weapons don't change their damage type based on type of attack, like for example sword primary slash and secondary pierce
but then youβd often only have one effective attack
It's a usefull one for the battleaxe kit, I think it fits it well
and having multiple weapons would be less useful
well the primary attack is fine yea. But the spin even if resisted is just nuts. In mistlands that even gets mitigated by adding in lightning
it would give weapons better versatility
Not a fan of anything lowering build diversity
Sword mains would outright not use anything else
Not like they already do but still
well, there's rarely any reason to use the secondary for me with sword but i guess i'm not as experienced
sword secondary is so good, no other attack has that high of a damage multiplier
parry + sword secondary
itβs great for dealing damage safely, you can poke the enemy from just outside their reach while dealing huge damage. I use silver sword secondary for starred warriors in ashlands and rarely even trigger their attacks
huh never knew it was 3x, always thought it was 2x
yeah its 3x, should probably be nerfed to 2.5x tbh
then it would just be mace secondary without the stagger
or is that 2x damage 2.5x stagger? i always forget it
was it 2.4m primary and 2.7m secondary?
Other way around.
5 forts and no jades :/ really want to craft a klossen and staff of life so I can add them to my thundering axes to what I assume is a very strong combo. Took a break from raiding forts to tame some askvin and dig out a fort for a big ashlands base
To me it sounds alright as is. I never felt like swords particularly outperformed other weapons for me, they're just a weapon that is available in (basically) every biome, sometimes in both 1h and 2h version, and slash is super versatile. Which is why I think people stick to them a lot. People seem to have an aversion to changing weapon types
I only started using a sword in Plains and just stuck with it till the Ashlands
It trades defense for offense which suits me a lot
Probably the most offensive weapon type
it does save on resources
i'd like on other hand try all weapons and have them all easily available but the limit is resources and hotbar
I don't follow that logic
skill being harder to train with multiple weapons is another consideration
You make a bronze sword. You progress to swamp. You can make an iron sword or a mace.
Won't sticking to sword cost the same-ish resources as making a mace? And won't a sword and a mace take up the same amount of space?
how is this illogical, you can make several weapons for each biome
Yeah this is usually the main concern, but imo skill trains very quick early on so its easy to switch if you haven't dedicated yourself to swords and are at 80 skill in mistlands before deciding to swap
I swap weapons every time I progress to a new biome, on hard difficulty, and I feel like my weapons do plenty of damage. Even when using something like a spear against a blob
hotbar isn't limitless as well
I think I get what you mean now. You want multiple weapons AT THE SAME TIME.
Why not just swap to a new one entirely though? Skip the iron sword, go for a mace instead?
Iron mace is definitely the best weapon choice in the swamps
because i'm a new player, i don't know which weapon is best for each biome without spoilers
it is if you have limited resources
than get more resources, ain't like resources are running out
If you want a mace, make it. Dont like? mine iron and make a sword
naturally, that is common sense
common sense also is that it takes more time
if you don't got time enable 2x or 3x resources
to reduce the grind
Always an option to customize your experience and make it better for you
the talk was about why people just make one weapon
If you're looking to sort this out for yourself, I would suggest the cheapest variants of all available weapon types be kept somewhere for damage testing against enemies, the super effective damages will display in yellow numbers.
Yeah no need to know. If you don't know which weapon is best, you're free to try anything you want
Anyways I wouldn't worry about it. For example for swamp, ||pierce|| is generally the worst weapon type there but I still kill things fine with it.
Atgeir used in any biome regardless of resistance
I'm very resource concious in that I tend to skip a lot of gear (which I only recommend for experienced players that know what gear is necessary / know how to go without some gear), to minimize my resource gathering. Especially in BF - bleh, copper mining
i was replying to this message #valheim-chat message
and i said that i love switching them
that is, use any weapon that is more suitable for the situation
Ye that's fair
I do often run around with 2 weapons to swap between because I find it fun
Sometimes prior biome weapons can be pretty neat too. Like I'll run black forest bear fists and swamp battleaxe
one issue that i have is that getting skill to 100 and having 144% damage bonus is perhaps too powerful and game changing
not that is' realistic to achieve that in normal play ig
somewhat of a fomo perhaps
depends but it ain't extremely hard
Just gotta not die
It is quite the difference. But I don't think it's problematic
Other than for bows which gets its dps hextupled or something. That's a lot of damage
This why i tend to not use bows a lot
Stick to the good old sword and shield
in fact my blocking skill is 51 and bow is 47 which is quite suprising for me
Same, haven't used one for a couple years
And honestly, exploring spear, crossbow, and hybrid mage for ranged options has been incredibly fun
damn, that's a nice block skill
helps with parrying lord reto
mhm
I don't think I can possibly parry lord Reto with the rules I play by π
I may be wrong, but it would be devastating to be proven right
You need evasion mantle + carapce buckler + 3 top tier health food and even than you get staggered on some of his hits
I have a video of me fighting him like that
Dodged at first to raise adrenaline than fought him with the shield
Scariest fight of the entire game
that reminds me that if i'm not dying then difficulty settings aren't high enough, bows have likely also less chance to die
I play on Hard though, so I'm wondering if that's enough
If I add in Fader power it would probably work, come to think of it.
Only other option would be magic bubble shield to parry, but I've banned that staff
how does parrying scale with harder difficulties?
it doesn't but enemies deal more damage
I don't think it would be possible, his damage would just increase too much he already hits for like 500 it would go to like 750
Maybe tho idk it would be very risky, i could try
serpenet nearly wrecked my boat
you can't fight it very well without ranged, right?
i did a lot of exploration in order to find Haldor but to no avail
Enemies do 50% more damage on hard, double damage on Very Hard. Parrying works pretty decent on Hard imo, though big enemies or starred enemies you may not be able to parry sometimes.
On very hard you can forget about parrying anything but the basic non-starred enemies of each biome, unless you're really doing some progression skipping and big health builds
so i suppose it's more about dodging there
and if you miss parry you gotta get pummeled pretty hard, even if you could parry the neemy
Dodging or doing stagger damage with weapons. Fist weapons kick is a favorite of mine. Battleaxe, mace, or atgeir quite nice too
Very Hard is quite unbalanced. Gonna be 1-2 shot from most mobs
Some people enjoy it tho. I did when I played it, but I found it more fun to downgrade to Hard and then do some little personal challenges to spice things up
Very hard takes the fun out of the game for me personally
Just narrows thea mount of strategies and styles you can do
Understandable
In hard you can still manage with most stuff if you are good at the game
Normal felt boring to me because I didn't feel challenged anymore. Very Hard felt limiting which sucked but at least there was some challenge. Hard is pretty perfect middleground
yes, i can see how it limits the options
well said
I think after you first playthough, hard becomes the standard option
Normal doesn't feel challenging enough
I will say I'm a bit of masochist so I play with a list of like 20 challenges that ban certain items, push me to embrace certain playstyles, remove all sorts of cheese, etc.
I just banned magic fully no matter what
Never once touched magic in all my time playing valheim
So I guess to an extent I am limiting myself, but sometimes I feel like banning one weapon opens up the possibilities of so many other weapons because now there's not that "one OP weapon I HAVE to use"
Any sword, they all too op (I am just a sword fanatic and delusional)
I'm actually curious what others would think of my playstyle and limitations. Do you guys find the below challenges fun or insane?
Deep North Update Run
Settings:
Hard Difficulty
Raid Rate more (if two players, max if 1 player)
Fire Hazards on
Challenges:
- Permadeath
- Consider root harnesk a set bonus. Must wear full set if using harnesk.
- No Resistance Meads
- Must kill Hildr boss of biome (if it has one) before killing actual boss of biome
- No upgrading shields (lvl 1 only). Until Ashlands, then can upgrade fully.
- Friendly fire on?
Anti-Cheese Rules:
- No Bow
- No Staff of Protection
- No Atgeir
- No Staff of The Wilds
- No spamming spear throw.
- No Excessive Pet tactics
- No Bonemass power
- No bombs inside dungeons / no cheesing with bombs. New blob spawning bombs are fine, due to trophies being limited.
- No skill training (just level skills naturally)
- No breaking Dvergr crates with carts, eitr, etc.
- No portaling out of dire situations
- No Terrain Walls
- No Excessive spawn proofing
- Treat Ashlands fortress as though they have a shield generator and no-build zone (Can't ladder/terrain manipulate in, can't kill things with range before entering)
General ideas:
- Try to switch weapons often between biomes to be jack of all traits
- Get frisky, use bear armor and take on challenges
Each to their own i guess.
at a glance? it seems overdesigned
maybe a bit unfair but that you put this much effort into presenting to others how you play just reads as odd
ill do an actual read rather than a skim if you ask again, but its your game, play how you want it aint my business (not to be dismissive, mind you, you did ask for opinions)
the second half of anti cheese if what i usually do in games as a rule. I try to limit cheese and scummy tactics unless i can't find a normal way to solve the issue without it becoming too tedious/grindy
Mostly just to present to myself, so I can have a glance and see what I was going for after taking a years break or something, and to keep it straight because I tend to make different challenges for different worlds
i suppose thats fair, youre a much more organized person than i am in that case
so basically not grinding, cheesing should be considered normal, unless the game is badly designed
i have similar set of rules in games that i play a lot and that aren't well balanced, like when playing several roguelikes aka adom
tbf I did just run around with general ideas of what I wanted to do in my head, but I think I have a very unhealthy tendency to play a game and unless I am being beat to a pulp I feel the game is too easy and then I am not having fun. But then if I start getting the hang of things and max difficulty, I again start getting bored and then feel like I need to find some way of making it harder again, and then I've had a lot of back and forth of what would make the game more hard (and interesting) so ended up having to write it all π°
I think I need to try a second to just enjoy the game as is sometimes tho
if you could stick so long with this game and have fun so far then that speaks a lot of quality of it
In regards to the anti cheese rules I don't do most of them anyway, but I don't like the no bows since it's legitimately one of the games main weaponss, and the can't break Dvergr crates with eitr (I keep pretty much all of them neutral), and portaling out to not die. Otherwise, I already follow the rest naturally with a couple exceptions π
Totally unrelated but I swear I try to go to bed earlier but conversations converse and it's suddenly 4am again π π
Okay now I'm curious about this. What if you can't find Hildir on the map for a long time? Do you wait on the elder, Moder, and Yag until you find her? Or I guess just search everywhere for the secret locations?
i'm going to make a new shore base and looking for inspiration. Do you know of a nice video or pics that you'd recommend?
New to the game. Are there any mounts down the line?
Yes, two :)
They're maybe a bit different from some in other games tho, people don't tend to use them much
I think they're pretty cool tho
Nice
idk, never ran into that issue. I usually explore a lot once I get the Karve bc I like to scout out a good spot for a base with iron and silver near, and to get some chitin / serpent drops.
I usually find all the traders or at least 2 of them while exploring around looking for that, then the third one maybe shortly after
That said the Hildr boss rule I actually added recently and haven't really done a full playthrough with yet
do you look for them by going inside the land or just sailing?
I wouldn't hold of for any trader but I would tend to look harder for Haldor and the bog witch than I would do for Hildir, she has some nice items but nothing as important as from the two others.
I mostly sail around looking because the main purpose of exploring is to scout out some swamps (that I don't want to set foot in this early, unless I see a turnip on the edge) and to find serpents and leviathans.
But if wind goes against me I might make landfall in meadows or BF, pop eikthyr, and go for a run to explore. Then build a new boat and continue
i must either have terrible luck on Haldor or i dunno. Will trader only spawn at a certain location and that's it and and unless player goes to that exact location they might never find it?
i noticed that with Hildir which i found, there's a generous distance at which the trader is visible
originally i thought that i have to get much closer to find them
There is more then one on the map when you start, the first one that you are close to will pop up and be selected . That will be the sole one from then on.
Yeah there's something like 6-8ish locations that each trader can appear in. And whenever you go to one of the locations, they spawn there and will never spawn anywhere else
Traders also spawn at a certain range from the center of the map. So once you get a feel for how far out you have to search, it gets a lil' easier
Would be cool if they moved so you could get a feeling that they just hopped around the map when they feel like if π₯°
So after X amount of time they move to a new spot
As long as they send you a card with the new address.
Haldor has 10 spots and all are at least 1500m from center in a black forest, the first spot you get close to will be the permanent spot. It gets marked on the map with an icon looking like a coin bag.
WHat do you guys have for dinner today, I need some ideas
idk what I'll have today, but yesterday was my birthday and I went to an interesting restaurant. Had pheasant soup and guinea fowl ravioli with some really good veggies on top
Thank you π₯³
Pasta with a sauce based on cherry tomatoes, garlic and spicy peppers, with pecorino romana and mozarella incorporated in the sauce.
aglio olio pepperoncino
It is pretty nice against her.
Between her melee attacks you have time to do full 3 hit combo or one secondary attack (which has 3x damage multiplier).
wanted to mine just one more tin deposit but had to fight 2 bears and 1 troll for it
life of valheim is hard
Melee against queen is a challenged, took 18mins to kill her and 6 major healing, 3 lingering staminas, 2 poison resistance and 2 ratatosk
Switching between level 3 Krom and level 2 Mistwalker with carapace shield
Nicely done. Magic makes it way easier yeah.
Thanks, also i despised her charge attack and her range attack, so annoying i have to distance myself twice to regen up
yeah, i think the fight is very well designed to use the new magic weapons. melee ive found her attacks pretty hard to time unless familiar with them especially her bite cuz her head goes so far past and doesnt actually hit til the chomp sound, ive dodge too early several times. i wouldnt change her much tho, she feels like an epic fight against a thing the dverger knew better than to mess with
Yeah magic makes a lot of content significantly easier for me at least... firelands is so much easier with magic imo
was there once a now removed early axes emote?
i guess i just need nitro...
or is it gone...?
it seems joel has that emote in another server
yeah looks like the emote has only ever been used by joel.
sorry for taking up space
If you click the emote in the other server, it should tell you where itβs from
Click or mouse over, I forget
it's hidden
and/or private
i think joel has a personal server of his own with a bunch of emotes just for him
Same, it trivializes things a lot
That's why I like to go melee for more engaging gameplay, but just sprinkle in some magic here and there for funsies
I asked the other day how come flametal pillars don't make grausten build pieces blue the same way that iron beams do for stone build pieces. But does anyone know of a way to achieve that goal? Building a tower of grausten becomes difficult without any beams being able to maintain the structural integrity :/
Yep
Now im back on ashlands for the 2nd time
Iron doesnt make stone blue
ashlands i felt the opposite, i hated magic there and the 2nd time went melee and was mad at myself for ever using magic there
so much time casting a running jumping blood shield to get instantly broken again
Oh, my mistake then, thank you!
Yeah my bad, I misremembered. Cheers, I guess I need to get some iron support beams going then!
Does it even make wood blue? Blue just means it has lost 0 support, like if it is touching the ground, a stone or a tree, et
Yeah, running and hitting while using magic is a must, cant really stand your ground and hit unless someone with a strong attack will break your shield
according to a vid i watched wood is at 0 structural disintegrity when placed atop stone or iron beams
Iron beams definitely make wood blue as long as the beam is connected to the ground at the very bottom of the beam pillar. but for some reason I misremembered it as able to do the same for stone, which isn't the case.
stone is like a foundation for any wood
well yeah, but then the whole time is spent running or holding down frost staff pewpewpewpewpewepwwpwepepwepwwpewpew walking a soldier slowly walk toward you. pretty lame when you can parry thrust dead
Also worth noting that iron beams are not blue if connected to a stone floor, the bottom beam/pillar needs to be connected to the ground for it to work optimally
Ah yeah i remember. But i dont think it remains blue at max height for iron at least
and then theres the green afk staff lol, idk i just was bored with magic even tho it was neat
at max height probably no but just below it and anywhere else yeah
Yeah stone minimum support is less than max wood so that makes sense
I used the nature staff against lord reto for the first time and i was like, "yeah this is kinda cheesy" imagine 15 roots hitting him, the chances of him getting root is so high
elder cosplay
Would you ever consider a hybrid build?
even with just like .5 eitr food or something
i've contemplated this
guys if someone use the epic loot in this game can he answear at my question in #mods-issues ???
do you think with my face i have patience?? xDD
you sure are in no rush for dental work π€
π
i tried one, it was kind of fun actually and required medium strategy. i did skeletons and blood shield with red greatsword. they kind of tanked and distracted while i flanked things with greatsword thrusts, all eitr went to re-shielding skeletons and my damage was all sword. it was pretty fun
theyβre more fun at least. i imagine if youβre playing as bow or nimble low hp builds, a blood shield would be pretty good to have.
but then again i think full max hp melee is better than full magic so i might not be the one to ask
if you can use eityr and stam at the same time obviously thats the most dps anyway
Theyre a bit worse imo yea
Then again, melee is worse than full magic imo
Full magic just gets boring AF sitting from afar in an unkillable shield holding left click
id rather parry thrust dead something than sit there pew pew pew pew its safer sure but gag me
do we have any information on when the next update is coming?
No
I think it is fun to start new worlds, with new characters. Playing alone kind of sucks, when you are ready to pass from black forest. It takes alot of work to get that far, and not cheat at all. I am proud of my simple self. Figuring out the cooking thing, and organizing every thing. I have not been far into swamp. Just a slow play. I dont seem to fit in too well, with experienced balls to the wall players. Finding a real slow, chill person to play with, is on my bucket list. Back to day 90 game.
Dunno if itβs the next one, but we know the game will come to switch and PlayStation sometime this year
Deep North update we donβt know when though
I actually run a hybrid build as well. Full flametal armor, but I run piquant pie, ashlands feast, and marinated greens for foods. I have well over 200hp and I think like 130 eitr or something.
Can definitely mess things up at short and long range
Nice, a gjall took out a dvergr camp, the dvergrs mostly finished off the gjall, and it dropped a trophy
They're cooking something for us on June 7th. We nicely nzz until they wrote a post on Instagram about the stream on the PC Gaming show.
120 days registered in my alone world, 90 minimum have been making farms and honey, i totally understand you
oooo i hope theyre cooking something very good
Nature is beautiful
Knife always better
This is my favourite by far #fanart message
The way it captures the Mistlands atmosphere with such realism
@viral prairie π¨π»βπ¨π
my sadness has gone and i am ready to try again
And the new one you just posted
Wow
yes
eventually they said
They were, but now fists just seem like better knives to me
Fists have a good special attack but I still prefer the quick swipe of knives
bigger sword
knives do attack a bit faster, but I feel like the combo of knife and fists is about comparable on time
before you ran fists did you run knives
(my darling mace
π)
I like the damage type, sneak damage, stagger, and overall combat of the fists better (I feel like they're better at swapping from one enemy to another, especially fun during a raid. Prob bc they have longer range)
It's Too slow. i hate the krom. It can't parry heavy hitters
I used to run a lot of knives and spears. I still do, but I would take fists over them'
It absolutely can
do a challenge run instead of permadeath
Thundering great sword is a pain to use in the ashlands. The spear is way more fun
imo the greatsword is pretty nice for starting engagements in the ashlands. Jumping at an askvin with a secondary attack is a nice way to stagger them while taking out a chunk of health
i still enjoy the permadeaths i just have a counterbalance of sadness when i have to start over
I tried a spear run, I lost it in the mountains π
lol
Somehow I always ended up failing those in black forest. After a few attempts i got tired out and needed a lil' break before coming back
Though once I made it past BF I was cruisin'
Think spear is the only weapon I've gotten to 100 by Plains
Great weapon of choice
yeah black forest is really easy to underestimate and go in too quick
I think its good early, I'll always be a
guy though
Thank you π€
Can I let you in on a little secret
Sure
I was gonna ask the same
?
Yeah, I think I just underestimated too how Very Hard switched things up. In later biomes I get a lot of gear I can use to my advantage to survive. But starting black forest I barely have anything, and then mobs doing double damage is just an instakill
Am happy I'm not playing Vhard anymore
i dont think id do v hard unless i was in a group or something
scliding damage numbers just doesnt add much intrest to me
It is the only thing I use chatgpt for. Valheim stuff that is. 99% of it is just screenshots in a βrealisticβ way. But sometimes I mess around with the fonts and those are a few of the results. Not claiming I hand drew these (I feel like that was obvious). The only effort I make is actually taking screenshots in game for references
Check screenshots
Yeah thats what i thought lol
Baited me
I'm still stuck in Black Forest and trying to survive troll raids.
Stuck in the Black Forest? How does one do that?
I donβt do it as a form of disrespect. It all started as a question I asked myself, βwhat would a troll look like if it was standing infront of meβ and yea. Itβs not pretty.
Go to Black Forest. Die on way to swamps. Die again. And again. And again.
Well since you admitted to it im gonna leave you with a "verbal" warning and point at thr #fanart channel pins
I mean, I could definitely argue that description..
It is something I technically made
The pins* no ai
Welp. Iβll take the warning
@queen wadi wouldnβt be made if I didnβt take the screenshots or type out the description lol
Itβs all subjective
But I understand!
Instructing an AI to make something does not mean you've made it, to be very clear, especially true for original artwork. The heavy lifting here was done by the trained AI and the artists working on Valheim.
Like I said itβs subjective
I was pretty sure from the first one, it was giving "valheim in unreal engine"
I would say that's an objective fact.
A personal opinion.
Like I said, no disrespect was intended. was just curious and that answered the question I had lol.
it isnt subjective that this server doesnt allow it, though
#fanart message
I won't be sucked into this conversation much further, it's an opinion that you've made it, but I can be of the opinion that 2+2 actually equals 5 as well.
I never said it was. reread.
my point is there isnt anything to argue about here
Iβm not the one arguing I am simply responding π
I said I understand and Iβd take the warning lol
Real
that looks really nice larsi
Anyway no reason to go after rondo any more. He took the warning on the chin and we can leave it at that
I understand, that looks amazing and I genuinely wouldnβt be able to recreate that. but I didnβt want a painted look. I simply wanted to see what it would look like in real life or a more realistic looking fashion. As the game has a retro feel that I simply love and itβs definitely one of the reasons I still play the game. Was just curious haha.
Didnβt know gifs were like that
I like it a bit. Vhard is way too much, but hard honestly feels pretty nice to me (also cool that it makes mobs faster, tho i don't think it's a big gameplay impact)
Most the challenge comes from optional challenges like permadeath tho
Exactly my thoughts on AI especially with artwork. AI artwork should be called CRAP
Computer
Rendered
Artificial
Picture
Best to drop the topic in all fairness.
I mean yeah i already said so lol
Yeah, just reiterating as they might've missed your message.
Hey soβ¦is it wrong for me to use console commands on my first play through?
guys, never EVER build a roof for your garden
depends heavily on the context wanderer but i wouldnt
personally every time i use the console it destroys my feeling of intergrity in the game / world
lol yeah it would be nice to have some kind of transparent roof so we could make functional greenhouses
bro I have spent 1 hour making roof
I use it give me materials that are tedious to grab like wood usually (and ingots cause Iβm lazy and get tired of doing stuff that I need to repeat)
and then I realized my crops are dead
im with joebass that you shouldnt, but its your game and no one should tell you how to play it
valheim shines its best when youre exploring the hard way though, imho
I do that either way and I heavily enjoy the sailing hope thereβs more that gets expanded on that
the grind makes the end result feel so much better
I would do your first playthrough as the developers intended and then for the next ones, do what ever you want.
I disagree, there's better ways to make things more satifying to complete thatn just... making them take longer
Okay, Iβll try not to use console commands for the rest of the game (though I REALLY donβt like having to track down my stuff when I die)
The devs for this game seem to equate time taken with satisfaction, and I'm not a fan of that
Dev commands. π£Dev commands. π£ build a fishing village if u want.
I tend to abuse fly a lot and it makes me feel depressed when I do it causeβ¦I die to the dumbest stuff
Yeah I do sometimes. Between that and the drop multipliers, it's not that bad
Time and place kind of thing. I dont always do things. Sometimes i like to
Iβve died to mainly stuff that catch me off guard
90% of death in valheim loll
And I gotta say, the dungeons are great, especially considering many of them have multiple stories and funky staircases and drops, and yet I've never been softlocked
That's quite impressive for procedurally generated dungeons
Also give me tame able BEARS!!!
i guess i have not done massive scale builds yet but i cansee how harvesting mats could be less fun there
This is why early on I changed my game setting to casual death penalty. You keep your equipped gear. That way I still have to go back to get the rest of my stuff, but I don't have to try and run naked or craft backup gear. And plenty of times I had no weapon equipped when I died, so it was still more challenging than just using fly to get back there.
Can you change that on the fly?
At your pleasure before you load the game, yes, I do that with the drop rate, too
And with saves you already have?
Because I've spent enough time grinding for bloody iron already
yep
i heard a thing i thought was funny in a video the other day
turning the resource rate down instead of up to force you to play the game slow and change your mindset lol
i dont agree but i think the sentiment is interesting
Yeah there's already enough grinding for a lot of mats
Spending fifteen hours endlessly hacking away at scrap piles is not my idea of a fun time
Now if they made some dungeons more challenging to fight through, with a large reward at the end, rather than nothing but pickaxing for half an hour every time, that would at least be more engaging
For you*
I get that, now that I'm on my like 6th playthrough or so, I have a few rules for myself about flying.
I can fly only when I do either a corpse run that has failed 3 times or more.
Have to traverse a zone or distance that I'm sure I can handle if I'd be doing it by land.
Can't fly to not explored areas.
Well yes that is my opinion
I'm quite engaged with that system even 1500 hours into it.
I'm rather certain not everyone shares it lol
Part of my enjoyment with building and crafting is utilizing things I've earned through efforts and time spent.
I do find the combat fun and engaging, and the nice array of fantasy weapons as well
OK, this is weird. I have a smelter and kiln inside a very large lean-to at my OG base. I can't seem to get them to fit in my new base. What do they require to be built?
They need to be built on stone or earth
Or marble I think
Oh. I must have slid a floor under them at my old base.
ive put a... lot of hours into valheim, and i wound up turning the console off a long time ago
i just dont like having it even tempt me mid run
Sometimes the ground will clip through the floor just enough to build on what looks like a wood floor
Yeah, you can sneak a stone foundation under a wood floor when you don't use snap points.
the value of effort is gonna vary person to person for sure
Yup, looks like that was it. I built the smelter in a corner without flooring, then slid wooden floor under it after.
Get creative with the snap points and rotate through until I get the right spot to lock.
part of it is i think that when people are talking about the game, they tend to assume the effort put in is the same that other people have. and sometimes when you learn people havenβt put in the effort you thought they did it can feel weird
It's not effort, per se. I just don't conflate "time spent" with "effort".
i mean having to find and survive through 3 more crypts than you would have, imo, is qualifying
I don't think they were conflating that to be fair, time spent isn't exactly in need of mention there.
walking through swamps and not dying to a higher density of mobs and stuff definitely takes effort
nah i dont care what other people do in their games, i just know the the few times ive spawned items for myself its all been under flimsy justification and ultimately cheapened my own personal experience
i dont wanna police other people and i dont even mind guiding them through using those tools, i showed krom how to avoid spoilers on the seed gen site the other day but i dont use it terribly often
Yeah and that part is fun
yeah i mean ultimately it comes down to the player preference, which is good and what people should follow for themselves
i am just saying sometimes people make assumptions and that causes confusion
I started using flight to get back to my body after the 7th death and the main time used it was to actually track down a swamp
hehehe destroying an army of ticks with a sledge is just FUN
makin strawberry jam
one time i got to a swamp and realized i left my finewood behind on accident, so i spawned 20 because i was out of food and probably would get lost and die. shortly afterward I deleted the save because i felt bad and started over π
goes great on toast
