I've seen some extreme measures to limit progression on some servers. Some map seeds require making a raft just to aquire hard antlers on another island. (No Eikthyr altar on same one as world spawn) and I've complained about that too, but some servers outright nuke those boss altars from orbit until the admins are ready to progress to the next biome.

Generally when you kill a boss, that boss will stop sending enemies after you. But then the boss of the next biome will start.

You kill Eikthyr, you no longer get raided by Boars and Necks. BUT, the next boss (Elder), will now start sending greydwarves at you

There's a few exceptions (like trolls), most of those exceptions are ones that get enabled by killing bonemass, and never ever go away again

I'd say no. Raids are fairly rare anyways, and I wouldn't recommend skipping stuff on a first playthrough

Also the raids enabled by bonemass are pretty easy. In that they are like swamp-level raids, but they stick around even when you're in way better gear making them very easy to deal with down the line. And more raids enabled doesn't mean you get raided more often, just decides what type of enemy can attack you IF a raid does trigger

The moment I summoned the boss, an abomination woke up and I ended up dying after being ganged up from both sides and stuck between them. The boss is at 10% HP, though, so I'm about to get it now.

yeah, I had a portal with a chest with food/potions ready for the fight, and I underestimated my gear

I would've killed it without dying if the abomination and the bonemass hadn't sandwiched me in between

That's why I put a couple of ladders for getting up onto the skull. It's mostly safe and allows you to recover and work out a plan for dealing with the unexpected.

Its recommend to get a foot hold in swamp as you'll be busy there for a while, make a tiny outpost so you can teleport back to base safely and return when needed

And I like playing as an elf so I use Elven ears which adds yet ANOTHER thing to my ever expanding inventory problems 🤣

Yeah that's exactly it, so much room is taken up by stuff you're wearing

Limitng inventory is one thing, but nobody and I mean nobody enjoys constantly ferrying shit back and forth from bases and outposts and dungeons

The toughest part of the game for me is blocking/parrying/rolling, because my mouse's right buttn is a bit janky ­– if I press it too hard, it deregisters the click. So I have to use it ever so gently, in the middle of a troll fight

I guess my other big complaint so far is the base defense mechanics. There's no non moddy way to easily prevent mobs from spawning inside a base, and even then, when you build walls, the game doesn't actually tell you whether or not they're scalable
