It made hell feel like real hell
(right now it's more like baby hell)
What's ashlands if I can't even build my portal without playing wave defense against mobs
My first ashlands map was a blot of white, from all the death markers. I was gaining them faster than I could remove them from my map, as nothing would leave me alone long enough for me to open my map to identify and remove the correct marker
"baby hell?" That's just purgatory 🤣
Just another layer of Hell to slog through 😅
Viking purgatory has never been more fun
Portals and workbenches turn to coal at the drop of a hat
It's where the evil babies go when they die
All babies are evil
It's a shame I'll never get to experience such difficulty again, they said DN will keep the difficulty but lower the mob density, that automatically just kind of makes me think it won't be as tough
No matter how strong a singular mob is, having to take care of multiple things at once is harder
It's where greydwarves go when they die
Uhh no, they go into my inventory and then into my torches when they die
It's just like the soul gems from skyrim all over again, no afterlife for you, you're gonna be used to fuel my next stupid weapon
Their spirits conglomerate in the ashlands and merge to form asshats like the morgen and warriors
Doing a very hard play through and about to be on Ash, pray for me
Everyone knows greydwarves are the glue that keeps the buildings together that's why you can build so high
I was being chased by a morgen and a starred warrior once, so I took refuge in a morgen hole, figuring that a single morgen was better than a morgen plus extras. Except the morgen that popped up was starred 😂 That sums up the ashlands experience
Love me some putrid hole gambling, how many stars is it gonna have this time
good luck!
Sometimes you gotta self impose some difficulty. Either through world modifiers or personal challenges
My ashlands gambling is mostly along the lines of how many Valkyries will aggro on me if I fight the whatever is coming at me
I love when valkyries come over to burn the mobs bothering me
World modifiers don't change the core gameplay, just add extra numbers to enemies, as for personal challenges, if I ever get to a point in any game where I'd have to resort to that, I'd just leave and come back when new content gets added
Mine's how many bloodstones will I end up with before getting the other two actually useful ones
Depends on other modifiers they introduce, too. The wet buff in the swamp sure makes swamp life hard initially. And visibility sucks in some biomes too. There are many ways to make a biome challenging without having a large number of mobs
Could happen, we'll see, I'm just going off of concrete info right now, which so far is just that the mob density will be lower
Not much is known about its gameplay right now
I know. I'm just not discounting anything. I'd rather like a biome where I have breathing space, after the intensity of the ashlands. I enjoy the contrasts between all the biomes, and each has its own challenges
Can't agree with that, there's nothing challenging about the first 6 biomes, just mechanics that give them a twist
Ashlands causes more deaths than any of them, that's what makes it challenging in my eyes
Oh well, to each their own. I still love early game, especially the exploration and building. I don't need to be constantly challenged at or beyond ashlands level to enjoy myself
Yeah I just solo one with the frost mace, it was ridiculously easy, I got a full two combos on the abdomen, turning with it, before it could even turn around
Neither do I, but I would be disappointed if I went from the 7th biome to the 8th biome and suddenly the gameplay is considerably easier
Not how progression's supposed to work
I'll be content with something different to the ashlands. Hard, but not in the same way as the ashlands
Maybe we'll be getting bombed by frosty meteors every time we're outside
LMFAO!! Who knows! I'm looking forward to seeing what they bring to the table.
I've not been disappointed yet
Hopefully some food that doesn't require god damn asksvin tails
New best stamina food in the game: Yellow snow (it's better than it looks)
Perfect!
Mm, golden eyescream
yellow snow is usually spilled beer 😄
does resistance overide weakness at equal potency? or does the resistance have to be higher?
you where sying @gray sand ?
where have you been? 🤔
Fader can deal spirit damage
I know
so I'm fighting yagluth, with barley mead and root harnesk, and I'm getting f'ng annihilated, the right hand is like 100+ damage, and one meteor is certain death without a heal pot
well wiki says only meteors do blunt, and the electric you cant do anything about
Meteors also do fire dmg. And guess what the Root Harnask's weakness is?
You'd have more chance with Fenris or Vile chest piece as with the Root Harnask.
Barley wine overrides the weakness
Still, while root harnesk is strong in Plains there is no reason to take it to the fight vs Yag, he does no stabby-stabby whatsoever. Fully upgraded linen armor is my preferred clothing there, but I assume the vile or even fenris set can work too for those who prefer light armor.
how do u ppl imagine "perfect" storage situation
Pretty much the way we currently have it? 🤔
ehm genius answer thx
17 chests of greydwarf trophies
what do you mean by situation? build or game design?
well not realy build more like how u imagine organisation of chests
building around it can change
i wonder if ppl do categories or different stuff
That will vary with people’s preference. There is no “good” or “bad”, let alone “perfect” in this aspect.
5 reinforced chests in 2x4 area stacked in 4 layers is nice.
thats why i type "" there ofc it based on ppl preferences and stuff
i mean more like item organisation i think its kinda crazy to have one chest for every item
maybe more space for building mats or something
I usually do this, then have some hidden chests for weapons, gold, trophies, etc
#mods-screenshots message
Dunno, just built 60 chest shelf in my co-op world I host with my group. Lots of space.
don't put the body parts next to the food, just fyi
any system in that or just random locations for items ?
Usually most used mats nearby to each other, metals nearby, different woods and stones nearby etc.
No solid pattern how I organize.
But sure my group is bit messier.
ye id like to create system i like just for me but i want it in way so others can understand it if someone joins me 😄
i was thinking about biom categories and few chests for each biom with lesser categories
They allow me usually organize tho, I put signs to show what the certain chests contain.
things stored near immediately next to the station that uses them. categories that are easy and make sense to your brain. “meats” “weird meats” “foraged” “farmed” “potion ingredients” “potions” doing things per biome sounds convoluted and time consuming. and dont gather so much that you need 10 chests for each kind of meat
idk how to make that link u did but under your is my "idea"
yes im imagining meat and stuff together in different building for cooking
Finally made it to the Moder mountain. So soon I will be able to process all the crops and black metal I have been accumulating getting here.
Guess I will build my plains farm/base now as well. Glad I waited. I found Mistlands to do it next to.
too bad there weren't any recipes added with the bear meat
🤔
That could still happen. Maybe with 1.0, maybe after.
They don't need recipes tbh 🤷♂️
Sure it ain't needed, strictly speaking there's enough food at black forest level for gameplay, but it would be kinda cool.
Personally disagree 🤷♂️
that's fine
It's equal to Minced Meat with no other additives.
Similar to how Cooked Bonemaw Meat has no recipes but is an outstanding food by itself on-par with other fully cooked meals in its biome.
More foods definitely are not needed, but they might increase the range of options.
and maybe just kinda fun in their own way to cook. Boar meat translates to swamp tier recipes (sausage) so a recipe involving bear meat could escalate to a higher biome tier as well.
I agree with making bear meat part of a dish or feast you unlock further in the game
Might be nice in a deep north feast or some such.
Wouldn’t mind some more meaty foods. Can be hard to get optimized foods when wanting to go all in on something. Like all hp food
Granted you’re probably not really supposed to do that
There are more health-specific foods than any other type 😭
that's fair, as a health-heavy eater I'm not really wanting for foodstuffs.
Granted though, bear wouldn't thematically fit much else stat-wise
True but still for example in mountains I believe there’s only one good hp food you get there
Granted you could just go hunting serpents and then have mistlands tier food through swamp, mountain, and plains
sure, i sometimes put my cooking all separate, then what i do is have one other main storage and craft spot, and stick a cart there, so i just throw food crap in the cart and haul it all over in 1 trip saving me from running to the cooking area countless times. OR. best base i ever designed it was all kind of right next to each other.
oh, huh.
now that you mention it, mountains has... wolf skewers. And... I don't think much else
Need some fried drake wings next qol patch fr
No.
Eyescream but its not really farmable and a little resource hog. In fact me and my friends usually just rush through the swamp and mountains as soon as possible. The plains is where people you will spend a lot of time at, at least in our play through
Well, far as health food anyways
Yeah eye scream and onion soup is just for stamina
And there’s also cooked wolf meat, wolf jerky, and raw onions but thats just doo doo at that point
I am looking for a good suggestion for a Canada based Server host for Valheim
You just have to search through the servers in this channel: #1024264966712340510
If your looking to pay for one for yourself in Canada, Google for them and see what looks best rated.
I have been but thought I'd ask reccomendations
I just got to the mistlands ( playing solo) any tips?
im in hugins hints, not sure if thats the right gc for mistlands
Depends how much you want spoiled
I recommend listening to audio queues instead of just relying on sight. And to really progress in the biome, you need a few materials scattered around (unlike something like swamp, where you basically just need iron)
How does one get in Hugin hints?
tab to open your menu, click on the raven.
Oh. Lol 😂
about bear meat
maybe theres more health based meat than others, but nothing says we couldnt turn it into something else that isnt pure health
bear jerky anyone?
give bear meat the honey is always wanted
That's just mean ROFL
the bear started it
I just mark anything I think is important
you can rely on visual cues too in the mistlands. For instance, if you turn into a tombstone, its likely that you found something dangerous
Follow me for more hint and tips
Go eat your bear jerky
I would
Yeah lmao I heard a loud battle cry and turn around and this big ass world war Z blimp was right above me
If I had any
Bro started blasting fireballs and little blood sucking goobers
The solution to these is to kill them
Good thing I had fire resistance mead on me once I realized my health was reaching 70%
gjall moment
Hope I’m not spoiling for anybody but I got scared and paused my screen like wtf
Nah even if they knew what its called they wont get too spoiled since they still dont know the apperance of it
Oh ya second thing was seeing one of those purple one star bugs, was not expecting to almost get 2 shotted
spoiler: ||its something you put on your car||
Sorry if im nonsensical, I had a rough day and I just want to unwind
Zoomies of the mind
3rd thing is I’m glad I didn’t start swinging at the green health bar guys, if all 20 of them came at me I would have been screwed
Anyway yeah, stuff in the mistland is plenty scary.
If you want a serious tip, I have some to give.
One of them said “ sometimes I wonder if the eityr is even worth it”
Me too friend, me too
Im all ears
carry fire resist potions. And theres an eitr based cape you can make that makes traversing the mistland much easier
Seeker soldiers are scarier looking than they really are
Except the purple one star ones
one star anything is very scary, two star anything do not approach
I dont want to deal with two star seekers even with endgame gear
Is there 3 star ones? I might start screaming shitting crying and rolling around at that point
Even with endgame gear mistland I consider more dangerous compared to ashlands enemies
theres no 3 star anything
I hope so, if you are wrong I will find you
There's one enemy in the entire game that's basically a 3 star version of another enemy but thats kind of a stretch
I knew fist weapons had pretty good stagger, but looking into the numbers of it I'm impressed
Not a bad option if parrying is out of the equation
Do darkwood poles not count as supports like log poles??
I don't see any noticeable increase in the stability like if I added ironwood poles, to support stone walls...
Is there a list anywhere that says just how much stability each type of pole gives stone structures?
darkwood is basically regular wood while corewood is "hard wood" and does offer better support
But I mean I don't see any increase whatsoever adding dark wood.
The limit still seems to be the limit for stone
the one item I know that greatly increases your build capacity is ironwood
Darkwood is literally just wood that is immune to rain.
As for list of structural points - wiki has a page on it iirc.
its immune to rain?
With Moder finally defeated I have been doing a lot of building at my main base, smelting a lot of "Black Metal as I do so. When I play tomorrow I need to get to the other side of the Mistlands to see if its swamp there as well, or hopefully, plains. If I am really lucky there will be roots visible in the Misltands. At the very least, I will hopefully get a lot of help with killing the Hares.
Which will hopefully happen a lot as I build and use my plains base there.
why is is so hard to find people who play the vanilla version?
plus anyone from asia who play it?
The usual reason given is people don't have a lot of time to spare, so use mods to help things move along faster.
true
dose the game have crossbuy
Buy it on one platform play on another? Doubt it
Gamepass would technically count i think
Like cant you play compatible Xbox games on pc or am I imagining that
The tar wooden structures yes
some great devs do that
like when u buy it once u have it in every other platform
Behold the flying drop kick I gave a troll last summer 😂
Backstab secondary for 36x stagger
Behold the flying left strike I gave to unaware Lox.
ye its very nice
Though I can't help but feel bad for not using a knife
hmm, yes darkwood
idk that sounds funky
did they change any parry mechanic? like parry bonus and such only applying to block strength rather than being a damage multiplier?
Parry bonus has always only multiplied block armor
Staggered enemies always take 2x damage
booooo
Tbh just post at #1024264966712340510 and say u want to do vanilla. Ppl with the same mind comes tgther easily.
yeah did that, but ended up in a server that had actually gone far in the game. its was vanilla though
thanks for the help
deeeeeeeep northhhhhhh
Taming has to be some of the Clunkiest mechanics in the game
I've been sneaking around i throw a cloudberry and then the lox just walks straight towards me and i start the whole process again
Does Wind Direction play a part in taming?
dont thrown one berry, throw a whole stack
in fact one way to do that is just sneak to a lox or two, throw a stack of berries, leave, and wait relatively nearby
It takes 15 minutes with the mead
Cheers Vinny
The other trick is to kill them.
i got to the montains and i think it's time to upgrade my armor (currently: bear pants, chest; troll cape and hood)
What would you recommend guys? (fighting almost always with a bow + with crystal battleaxe atm, not really parrying/blocking, just tanking and running away)
Ferris set looks cool, but gives half of the armor that wolf set does.
Also, does root mask give you better bow accuracy or do you need a full root set?
Wolf Head, Root chest, fenris pants is a good combo, or wolf pants or full set works well with wolf cape. Root set need all 3 pieces for the +15 bow skill. some people run full root into mistlands etc, but need to be skilled at dodging for that. Fenris full set is also not that easy to play with as a new player, I'd go wolf helmet and pants and swap the chest sometimes or all the time to root chest, its quite powerful for early plains especially and into mistlands and even more for some other fights
not really, drink the mead and if you can bring a friend and another mead its even faster, the tame must not be alerted by you or other nearby things, otherwise taming is disrupted.
huh, interesting.
And why full fenris is not that easy for a new player? Because 1/2 the protection?
Heavy armor is more new player friendly generally because of their higher armor rate, light armor sets have their own set bonuses but less armor, so being confident with your own combat skills you will be fine with light armor too.
One thing with Fenris armor tho is that each piece grant more movement speed (+3% each, total +9% with full set).
So negating the ms penalty of heavy armor with 1 or 2 Fenris armor pieces is also option to have better movement and but higher armor.
and what about cape? Lox or wolf?
It's up to your preference, both grant same effect (frost resistance) but look different and wolf cape requires silver for upgrading while lox cape don't.
Both Fenris and Wolf armor chests also grant frost resistance so cape is not necessary if you wear either of those.
Personally I prefer lox cape.
Yes less armour rating protection and sometimes you go so fast especially with ratatoskr mead as well that you take more fall damage then with heavy armour because you get somewhere higher so quickly and then fall down further then you would have with heavy armour hahaha
haha, quarter of my deaths this run were due to fall damage when running away/ dodging enemies 😅
has anyone done any calculations on what damage TYPE is best/worst for ashlands?
that's ignoring how uniquely strong some weapons are, like spear and bow.
Only one enemy resists all physical damage types and all charred resist pierce. So "best" on that regard would be slash or blunt, but I find spears/atgeirs also useful against those other enemies with no resistance against pierce.
i assume it's still blunt>slash>pierce still. maybe magic above blunt, but it's so late and hard to level.
i've not been to ashlands yet, but ill bet bow is still the best single class of weapon overall.
best skill. counting how easy it levels up
Its always the same answer generally, depends on enemy, different depending on if you fight a or b or c (not sure if you know monsters yet didnt want to spoiler)
bow is still good especially with frost or silver arrows for some mobs for instance
but some stuff I'd make sure you bring other weapons too
bow is crazy at high lvl, you can use it with 3 health foods.
so you're a tank with crazy range and damage.
never tried it with 3 health, does that give you enough stamina to do good damage when you get mobbed in ashlands?
with high bow skill, you charge it so fast that you use almost no stamina
i'd aim for 75, you can train it by only charging 0.01 sec. same exp.
I had it at 90 on some char at some stage but then I drank too much mead and it was back at 65 🙁
if you main bow from day 1, you never need to actively train it.
For most of the mobs you encounter in Ashlands, it's going to be spirit damage.
and some elemental are good too, like frost and lightning, so mistwalker is amazing
but yeah spirit is great with some exceptions for some mobs, thats why silver sword can rock there because it also uses so little stamina
Mistwalker is my go-to for walking into Ashlands. IMHO it's the best all-around weapon, doing good damage against everything you'll encounter.
Slash + Spirit and lightning
Lightning is super as none of the Ashlands mobs resist it and one is weak against it (or technically 2 as other mob is on water).
Also a reason why Himminafl is still quite viable for the Ashlands
Himminafl the OG goat
I'm trying to use that as my main thing this playthrough haven't done it before, always slept on atgeirs a bit in the ashlands and mist stages
we are killing queen tomorrow
Sildar Approves of this choice
Enjoy!
I find it quite a big challenge to not use swords actually haha
Same dude
But battleaxes be my jam, so I have a substitute for my big weapons fix at least 😂
someone on my server made a beautiful display of all the swords in his house I just came across, mesmerizing!
I have done a battleaxes playthrough too, might do another someday
Especially when lightning is the only elemental damage type that adds stagger.
Okay chat, got myself fenris pant+chest, lox cape - max upgrade, drake helmet lvl2, and will go grind some silver for wolf chest + upgrades for it and helmet.
Thanks for the tips
lol, somehow i managed to unlock butcher's table, but not spice rack 🫠 time to go back to swamp
The elusive turnip seed flower.
i don't think i actually saw it in my swamps D:
but probably havent looked for it
dig under the whole silver vein and pop the whole in one big explosion.
get rid of the dirt, then mine the silver, and it all falls
Which is why I said "elusive".
They are usually harder to spot than carrot seed flowers and they spawn less due to the terrain being partly under water.
The dark gloomy environment makes it bit harder to spot them honestly.
I finally got to the swamp and I have found one turnip seed lol
do starred creatures make different sounds? or are they identical audibly. could be cool if they were different, simply a different pitch maybe.
Color and size differs, not voice. And obviously more HP and damage.
I think our brains turn off due to all the bright yellow GUCK that’s glowing in the trees
Also, small yellow flowers 🌻
the fact that swamp is the yuckiest biome for me definitely does not help too
I love the gloomy spooky aesthetic
It’s the definition of despair, death, rot and cesspit
Definitely DO NOT LIKE 😂
Even the music is sadness taken note
Nowadays I enjoy the swamp era a lot. It's as gloomy as the mind of average Finn.
I wish I was creative enough to build so I could make a cool fortress in it as my main base
Only part of swamp I like is crushing Bonemass under my boots
His musical track is epic 🥰🥳
Yup - sounds about right 😂
Are sea monsters guaranteed to spawn at night
my first bonemass fight i was running around it and shooting arrows - spent 200+arrows and whole bow durability for it to still have 55-60% health, so had to just start fighting it with an axe.. and it turned out to be much easier lol
you're saying it like there's more monsters than just a serpent
It’s RNG
Serpent can spawn during night or during rain in ocean.
But they spawn in roughly the same place
But it's 5% chance IIRC.
I built a treehouse and used frost arrows cause I was messing around in the mountains from the Bronze Age 😂
Aka it’s lots of sailing to make one pop up
I forgot the name of the enemy mb lol
Thanks
And both rain and night have their own "spawners" so if both conditions are met then there is higher chance to get one spawned.
You want to go looking during a storm - storm spawned serpants don’t despawn
Serpants that spawn during the night will despawn at dawn
Are needle arrows good enough to take one down? My accidental plains exploration netted me a bunch
I’d say that would work yeah
Tysm
Frost is better but eh
I've only just started crypt mining
They are quite balanced to take down with black forest tier equipment.
Frost woukd be the mountain right?
Despawn at dawn = DAD.
Yup
I think the bear meat could/should get a jerky recipe along with a general buff to the jerky recipes. There's a stat total disparity between the two jerky recipes and other cauldron foods of their respective biome, making them a terrible waste of ingredients. Jerky used to have their place as base loitering foods, but the feasts area a far better alternative now - so the jerkies could use a buff as a balanced alternative that you can carry with you.
Boar Jerky stat total is 46 while other BF cauldron recipes are 53-60, Wolf Jerky totals 66 while other Mountain foods are 80-86. I'd say they could add "Bear Jerky" and give it something like 30/30 (or toss in a turnip in the recipe and make it 33/33), and give Wolf Jerky a buff to 40/40 to give it some reason to exist.
Not something that is needed, but it would make jerky something other than a noob trap.
Mountains are fairly easy once you have some iron - but needle arrows is good enough
How about plains tier food using bear meat?
There should be a bear pie that requires all the vegetables
Anything works, but something based on lox would have made more sense for a plains tier jerky. But yeah, a bear jerky requiring something plainsy would have a place. 😄
"plainsy" would be cloudberries I suppose
During the PTB I suggested one kind of soup/stew idea for bear meat.
What vegetable is in the plains
cloudberries, barley
There is barley, not actual "vegetable" but crop that grows there only.
Oh
I mean you still farm bears in plains with the undead Bjorne
That you get edible meat from viles is weird really
Not sure how we would even think of eating vile meat, but we eat draugr sausages so y’know! 🤮
Well nowadays they drop both edible bear meat and rotten meat, which is neat.
A renewable source of rotting meat is helpful
Neat meat.
But BLEEEEEEEEAGH!!!!! 🤮🤮🤮
It is funny, and I guess it saved them the bother to add some animal to hunt in the swamp... (boar intestines would have made more sense, but I love the source of entrails)'
😂
Muckshake, mmmm
Hey there are berries too.

Made with lovely undead slop
Tasty berries on top! 😖
Swamp made me realise my viking is deranged
I can sort of comprehend zombie intestine sausages but muckshake just sounds like something only a viking in purgatory could safely drink
Pretty much, yeah!
do dvergr EVER respawn anywhere they initially spawned after getting killed?
Are abominations also rng or can I summon them somehow
i think not right
rng, idk about any summons.
aboms spawn as stubs, not obvious unless you know them well
Aw the wood armor gonna take forever
if you run around swamp, throwing a spear on the ground, i think that triggers them.
Rng but they spawn in the same area after death
Oh dear
Just mark the spots where you find them and keep re-visiting that spot
All big mobs behave like that
Not in their settlements, but they do spawn in randomly throughout mistlands
So is one gonna continously attack my stone fort lol
but that takes many many ingame days no?
Not necessrily 👍
Big swamp = no sweat
I have had 2 just throw a tantrum at my bonfire
yeah it's the settlements i wish they respawned. so i can live with em, or live with them next to me
It burns us!!!
Kill it!
Kill it!!! 😂
If you don't kill them then you can 😄
they die on their own
Not really "on their own," the seekers and gjall help a little.
Uhh
Gjall
i would guess gjall
A troll
Is there any use for surtling spawner?
They really tick me off 😅
for coal, yes
Killing abominations
You mean the portal?
surtling spawner is very nice to have near your swamp base. infinite cores, many trophies, infinite coal
🔥*Burn baby BURN!*🔥
Oh is there an enemy called surtling
Infinite kill cannon for the thrice cursed abominations!!!
swamp bases are underrated.
I like tree houses
i made a house on top of a crypt once. it was ugly, but safe
Yesh mines on a crypto too
I wish I could build IN a crypt
It looks cool
Pretend I’m French 😂😅
I still don’t understand how France hasn’t sunk into the sea with all the crypts under their basement 👀
I make my swamp treehouses on the trees there, the big ones are indestructible
Chiselchip made has made two awesome mini-builds around Troll Cave entrances that I have shamelessly copied on several occasions. One is a simple mini-base examplifying clever use of small space, the other makes it look like a hobbit home. Both are excellent showcases of how great the building freedom in this game is.
I just thought about building a house in the forest where there's stairs leading into an underground crypt
Treehouse much safer imo
I AM COOOKED
I meant the forest crypts
I have been thinking about building a base on top of an infested mine, I kinda lose heart though since we don't have access to dvergr wooden build pieces. I'd want to keep the style of dvergr towers.
I ran into a pile of 6-8 seekers and half are one stars
Use the deer power
Atgeir or Sledge required or Staff of Embers
That is time for a pop of good old Bonemass and digging out the oh-shit-stick (atgeir)
how does Bone power actually feel these days? to me a bit underwhelming since the nerf, find myself using others much more
What power do you usually use
Elder is great now, so is Yagluth, and Moder also quite useful, Eikthyr still great as before
Oh wow moder looks great cant wait to unlock it
started a new run. found a 1 star boar before i even made a shelter for myself, improvised by using one of the abandoned houses for it 🙂
luxury boar real estate
I tamed a boar but I cant eat him he loves me
Loving meat is tastier than scared meat.
had to lock in for asec but i almost went down swinging, a gjall showed up right in the middle of me starting to have the upper hand
" a tank is visible in the fog of war"
gjalls are actually very easy to handle its the pile of 1 star roaches
Late game sounds wild
i just got to the mistlands last night and got mauled so i thought id hop back on after a full nights rest
Do meadows never border the ocean or am I just unlucky to be surrounded by Dark Forests which eventually lead to the sea?
They can border an ocean
I set sail yesterday post elder and found a small meadow that lead into a plain
Huh
my starting meadow is surrounded by black forest and mountains
also I got really unlucky with my first few dungeons
Mine did too lol
I've only razed 2 dungeons for cores I've been lucky
I usually make 50 portal pairs sometimes so need lots of cores haha
I've been trying to not use portals for everything since I have ore transporting on
I have never turned it on, probs never will
but we doing a nomap run now as well, everything default except nomap
Im trying to not abuse it since the game warned me about it but I have so little time on my pc lol 😅
?
Portals seem super useful
Did I say something wrong
No! Judt tryng to understand
Probably not understanding what you mean by the game warning you about using portals
The game said something like allowing all items through portals ruins the progression
Wanna vc and ill try to help you?
Ah, yeah, originally you’re meant to sail with said metals, rather than portal them. It doesn’t “ruin” progression as much as you think though, just makes things faster.
At the cost of not really needing to sail
im good, it's a fun solo run, besides, I have work soon
Ah lll, gotcha
Yeah I haven't really used portals ro just safely haul metal
Except for onetime when I brought 2 iron for a stone cutter through a portal
Interesting,
No maps question..... i believe theres console command or something you can type to see the map seed..
if i host a server, with no map on... can players find the seed or is it only the server owner?.... because that kinda ruins the concept.
I activated it before I headed to fight the queen, haven't been back to activate Moder's yet, but I suspect I will have more use for Bonemass once I am in Ashlands, so I'll see. Those two and Eik are the only ones I have ever used. Bonemass certainly helps, but it is no longer an OP I-win button.
Will the new 63° roof pieces be available to grausten as well? Would be weird, if they're only available to thatch and darkwood as mentioned by the blog

i need soft tissue and i cant find no more, so i thought maybe i can join someones worl and trade with him
That would be pointless as every item in the game can just be spawned for free.
So anyone offering to "trade" can just spawn stuff and take your actual earned stuff.
oh ok thanks for the information
I always found bonemass OP so opted for eikthyr instead. Now that it feels more balanced I enjoy it
Probably not too needed for normal difficulty, but a 25% resist is still nice (especially if used to cancel out bear armor or berserk mead weakness)
I plan on doing a vhard run soon and being able to downgrade mobs damage to hardmode levels by activating bonemass will be clutch
In my last game, I switched to elder power to mine flametal and I just never really bothered switching again.
Haven't tried it because the Moder buff was just that strong 😂
Moder power all the way for me.

Just watching the Hervor Bloodtooth series makes me shiver. Looks cold.
What you can do if you don't want to "cheat", you can create a fresh world to farm materials on.
Also by the time your world runs out of soft tissue, you won't need any more
Unless you have like a 10 person server or something
wait wait wait wait, hervor bloodtooth is WINTER CHILD?
What?
You mean from the dream?
i just felt hervor bloodtooth was winter child becasue she said "I think the winter look like this when i was child, ......."
Also runestones 😄
Yes
Wouldnt make much sense, since runestones reffer to the winter child as boy iirc 🤔
The child in the dream is a boy.
Or dream, yeah, not sure which one it is 😄
i don't care about their gender, i can't easily tell is hervor bloodtooth is girl or boy
I just recall the dream, I hardly ever read the stones any more.
Even those in new biomes? 👀
well winter child is in deep north if i remember correctly
I don't recall finding any. Considering how much I explore, that is rather odd to not find them. Then again, I may just auto ignore them like I do in all the other biomes.
Last mention of it was that it is in ashlands talking to the Fader
Yes, that's when fader was nice and gentle (before madness begin by winter child)
Yep, making its last known location Ashlands 🙂
Hmmm... I think I better start reading the stones again. At least in the newer biomes.
honestly i can't believe how much madness did caused just by winter child
-# Just an optional tip, wiki has a complete list of the runestones if you dont want to search them all in game 😄
Speaking of which, I have a new plains farm to build. Hopefully next to a Mistlands border.
Yeah, I know. I just use the wiki as rarely as possible.
G'Mornin all.
Evening! Welcome in 😄
not talking about winter child, why did i see frozen greydwarf in hervor bloodtooth journey video?
Most likely because we may be also finding them there from time to time 😄
Likely because the upcoming deep north will have frozen greydwarves
yeah, but how does greydwarf went from tropical blackforest ALL WAY to deep north?
They can swim quite well xD
-# Just joking, we dont know, maybe there used to be black forest there ages ago
Because he went on vacation and ended up having a bad time
oh lol XD
i can't joke about this, seals from deep north are sooooo cute!
i don't care how big fangs they got
Indeed they are 😄 and i am almost willing to bet we will be able to tame and breed them
if a two-star seal can't one-shot us I will be disappointed
wtf XD
-# Nah, 2-shot would be enough for me 😄 i am thinking about them almost as an equivalent to boars
If they're not completely friendly I guess that's ok
Now that i think about it, can 2 star boar one shot you without armour? 🤔
Hervor needs to hit one so we can see what happens
this would be war crime
In the latest teaser that seal was definitely out to chew on her hamstrings, they are definitely not passive animals at least...
2 star basically anything in the ashlands will one shot you, or at least lower you into near-death, so I too would be disappointed if 2 star DN mobs don't one shit
if you're all ok with fighting necks you should be ok with fighting seals too
Might be similar to dvergr since we saw here walking quite close
-# Tho devs might be decieving us with ghost mode on xD
oh well i'm already psychopath now becasue you said this
I hope seals have a raid like 'You Are Being Hunted' 😅 🦭
i show no mercy and i will gauranteed kill neck
Me personally I play with the mindset that if it moves I will kill it at least once to see what happens when it stops moving
That seems more like just moving animation, not really going after her 🤔
Yeah, comparing it to first reveal of seals seems like just general movement animation
That can trigger anywhere - watch 30 seals hobbling up a mountainside after you..
I thought it definitely changed direction to follow Hervor - but I've only seen it once so I might remember it wrong
Oh you are right, it does turn towards her 👀
hey y'all, 67 degress roof is kinda interesting way to let smoke out of building
or other uses
as well as short house and TALLLLLLL roof?
I really want to make a cottage styled home with the steep roof all the way to the ground.
Good idea
it would be first cottage styled home with possible attic
I'm also holding out hope for more crystal buildable objects, but hope is fading with every sneak peek.
Ah
well we will see in 2026 when deep north came out
Well, just for clarity sake, while i also think DN will most likely come in 2026, we have no such info from the devs 😄 for all we know it could come in a year, two years, three years or longer.
Thing with sneak peaks is that they show only a fraction of everything, we have not seen it all
Yes, i'm aware about this
new about my world: Now it's day 100!
Gods, I can't decide what to do today. I don't quite feel like pushing on to Ashlands - and I'm getting mildly drunk and my memories from last landing leads me to believe I should be sober for that - so I'm thinking about just taking the boat out and explore random islands.
Just past 600
No-portals run though
Everything takes longer, but I am never in a rush anyway
Oh that's like over 300 hours
Yeah, started this world on a business trip where I couldn't get online so I had to start an offline world, and then I stayed on it 😄
I really enjoy the no-portals dynamic
Also, for exploration, Wolf Skewer - Sausage - Bread are KING tier foods when running no-portals. Stacking to 20 is not an insignificant thing, that the stats are so-so is less of a factor unless I rush into Mistlands at night
Ah i see
meanwhile i'm in modded run to make annoying thing less annoying (such as having to farm thousands barley) and easier to explore
just because having lifetime supply of veggies is what i need lol
Hahah I walked out of my house to go down to the ship to sail off for some exploring - fuling warband is fighting greys and necks just outside the baes, couple of lox come roaring, also a wraith from the swamp and then I hear the stomach-gurgling and stomp-stomp of a troll. Has its perks to live in a biome crossroads. Aaand my inventory is full before I got ten yards off my porch...
I got my wish. A plains does border the Mistlands, and that Mistlands is rather big, so its also a solid starting point when it comes time to go in there. Now to scout the border and see if it has any roots visible, or any other crop items, etc... Actually, I should build and get my plains farm going first. Then scout.
that's why i have backpack mod lol
my favorite thing about valheim other than fighting is FISHING :)
I like how fishing works, except for the stamina cost. It is beyond frustrating to see a 150 stamina bar disappear in the blink of an eye because I couldn't release the button in time when some bloody fish started wiggling
Probably a bit of load lag combined with old-person reaction time at play, but damn, fishing higher tier fish is an exercise in frustration
It gets better with skill increase, etc...
It's nice to raft overtop of schools of fish, then you only need to cast out 1-3m, even if they starting tugging you will be able to reel them in with decent stamina.
hi 👀
Not for me, i got good talent with this because i spent many hours over few fishing games (stardew valley, fishing planet, and russian fishing 4)
Yeah, fishing from a boat is the way. But it kind of annoys me that it is so punishing that you pretty much have to do it that way
I made a mead thing but don't see any recipes, I have copper, tin, bronze, I've collected all the berries and nature stuff, and I have a forge, but I don't see any of the recipes
Right, second try to get to the boat - ambushed by another fuling warband, this one headed by a two-star spear guy. Then when I had killed them, a vile came along. Guess it smelled the blood. So, bags full again, back to drop stuff off. Shouldn't try at night I guess
and same thing to ocean too
You need a mead kettle too, over the fire, besides the cauldron
longship is giant and bit hard to manuver around but stable while Karve is better for fishing and manuver easily but it can be flipped and game over when thunderstorm came
yea that's what I have, and I have a cauldron next to it, do I need a fermenter too?
Yes, you need to make potion
Yeah the fermenter is used to ferment mead bases, but if you didn't get any recipes you probably lack some ingredient, like honey.
ohhhh yea I don't have honey
each fermenter will give you 6 potions if i remember correctly
Honey is basically the base ingredient for most meads.
Nah, karve is fine to navigate in any storm - you just can't go on full sail. Go half sail, and parry the waves, perfectly doable in the karve since it is so agile
Yup, cause sugar and fermentating needs sugar to do
Go around meadows and search for the buildings to find hives.
Just don't go full speed. It will force direction changes, but I have never been flipped at anything other than full speed.
okay thank you I will
You'll hear the buzzing of bees when you get near, just throw a spear at the hive and get the queen 🙂
will the bees attack me
Only if you get too close
Or if you destory hive
oh and I started farming trolls and got full troll armor all level 2
once I make potions I'll show the elder round 2
You can also find hives in the BF, but they are rare and only occur in the keep with the terrace around it.
At least, thats the only place I have ever found them in the BF.
Goodluck for elder rematch in near future
thanks
No problem, i have plan on attacking fifth boss, just working on taming lox first
Will Lox attack him? I know 2 star wolves used to work against him. But aren't even tamed Lox of the same faction?
Tamed creatures change to the player faction
Bosses are all part of a boss faction anyway, not biome factions
Hello. I am going to start valhein world. Anyone want to play ?
Yeah, but fulings, etc... won't attack him.
I need one more or atleast 2
The boss faction is friendly to all enemy factions
Would anyone want to help me with a project
so you can't bring creatures from a different biome to fight the boss
And make Riverwood town
OK, well, good to know taming changes that versus all bosses.
i'm already playing with someone, sorry
You can try finding some in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510 👍
Yeah
At least Animal Whispers makes taming go a lot faster now, too.
honestly, it's very funny that player can harpoon another player and it says human
Hmmm... I am going to scout first. It will be handy having my Plains base near a root or two. Then, once I am in the Mistlands stage of the game, I can have that base expand and also be my Mistlands farm.
Good idea
I try. 😄
You know mistland is just all fog when you enter without wisp
Yep. Won't be my first time going in there without them.
Besides, looking down from the mountains has shown me some mist free areas. Not right at the mountains, but not too far in.
In my very first world - the one generated when I bought the game on EA release- I have this wonderful little narrow strip of Mistlands that is so small that no seekers or gjall can spawn, but I can farm shrooms and a torrent of hares run out on the plains and get killed by deathsquitos. Awesome location. If you load that seed in the current game, it is drastically different.
The world my wife and I were playing in before restarting to play with some friends, has an area like that. Nothing like that visible so far in this play through. Maybe I will find one while looking for Yag.
We even had such a good fishing area right outside of it, that we built a fishing dock. 😄
I haven't visited that world in a very long time, if I remember right I have done some exploring both in Deep North and in Ashlands, so it is probably borked by now, but I think I will hop on and take a look.
If you didn't explore much, its still viable.
oh wait, i remember i was using devcommand and visited ashland and it look like just all barren hot land with some fire dudes
Yep, it used to only be occupied by Surtlings.
Yeah, it was pretty obviously a placeholder area
Both Mistlands and Ashlands look nothing like they used to. So I am very interested in what they do with the North.
Just as long as I don't hate it like I do Ashlands.
this would make me valheim veteran because i got game 8 days after it release?
I kinda liked old Mistlands, but the one we got is bloody beautiful...outside the mist
Apparently a LOT of people have Arachnophobia.
There were some monster concept sketches I am kind of glad I never had to face.
do you have arachnophobia?
No, I play with spiders. The non poisonous ones. I'm not stupid.
good, then "kill it with fire 2" game is for you!
One thing I miss about living in Arizona is playing with the Tarantulas there.
I honestly think they could've gone really far with an arachnid style enemy, imagine something like a trap door spider disguised as a larger rock, or ones that would just hang out in the trees and drop down when you got close/aggro it.
well there's one in kill it with fire 2, it's called morph spider, you just find then kill it
There was one concept monster that would have enveloped us. I was hoping to see that one.
Especially with the mist or web covered trees, I feel like we'd get a lot more jumpscares
Which one was that?
They never named it, that I saw/heard. Reminded me of Cloakers from D&D.
That would suck lol, if instead of ticks the gjall released those which would fly around as well that would be a nightmare to deal with.
Its not too late for them to add them. Maybe they will make it part of the North.
If they can work out having them envelope us.
Is Grimm the lead artist? I want to say it was his channel I watched back then.
I think having it work just like the tick attaches would be fine imo
Being enveloped would up the scare factor, imo.
Tru that, guess it just depends on how you'd get it off. Rolling for ticks was easy/necessary considering their dmg output. Blindness is pretty brutal tho, especially if seeing is necessary.
Giant roaches instead of giant spiders is like the proverbial out of the ashes, into the fire. Fecksake! One of few things in this world that can really unhinge me is cockroaches. Then by gods this game throws angry, volkswagen-sized roaches at me...
I don't think they can even do it. There is nothing, yet, in the game that comes even close to being an enveloping attack.
I don't think it'd be too hard, simply an attachment animation and screen goes dark till you get it off.
Your not alone. I found it hilarious that they avoided spiders, but jumped head first into bugs. I know TONS of people grossed out by cockroaches.
I know nothing about what it would take to make it work, so if you know, then maybe I will get to see something similar after all.
hmmmm i am wondering about there will be another variant of horn of celebration for 5th years of valheim in 2026?
Nah, I'm not familiar with what it would take (and definitely more than just those lol) would be interesting to see, though if you want to make it really scarry, make it so that they grab their target and start trying to fly up with it and then drop their target once they reach a certain height.
it's been 4 years since we arrived.
Btw I'm 600 days in on this world and still haven't found Rocky, how bastardly rare can that thing be?!?
you grabbing any rock you see?
Rocky?
he mean mysterious rock
@heady parcel I have always trouble finding one... they are soooo easy to overlook those tiny little things it that big big forest
Pretty much yeah, I build a lot in stone, every pebble counts...
LOOOOOL
Dont tell me you found him just now xD
@heady parcel same here... picking up any stone for 2h makes a loooooot of stones to be building with but no rocky 😄
The very second I decide to b1tch about it here, I find it
near base?
Every f*cking time xD
Discord complaint always works.
It is magic!
well, if your base is near to spawn, you won't find it. it must be 1000m away from spawn to be able to find rocky
Nah, it is pretty far from spawn, closer to the edge of the world than spawn really. Anyway I sailed across the sea to an island a bit closer to spawn and boom, there he was...
oh, goodluck for finding rocky then
oh then I should be comming here during my stream while i am trophy hunting and not finding turnips to complain about not getting any and I will find them? I should be trying that instead of going to the mountains with deerstew and sausage 😄 LOL
I don't even look for him. If I find him, its meant to be.
Absolutely worth a try imo xD
will let my audiance know that I am going to try magic, when next time a whole swamp does not hold any turnip plants
advice about spotting if it's rock and rocky is rocky appear as giant version of pickable rock, and it's only appear at between 5m-20m altitude.
Swamps do tend to be mostly under water. Then they have to compete with everything else that spawns above the water.
well, one thing i hated most about swamp is finding turnip
I know that ...and I try to search more towards the places that border other biomes because the chunks of landmasses are a bit bigger there... but still no luck this run - i had to kill all the mountain mobs on deerstew, carrotsoup and sausage 😄
Gods, I love Burial Chambers, their ambience and visual design... They truly feel OLD
Yep. Then after I find them, I then find a lot more.
oh yes you find one plant and rejoice and then they show up every 20 m 🙁
Sure seems that way, doesn't it? 😄 😄
I have prove... i got videos up where it was just like that ... running around like a mad woman in the whole swamp no one...then I find one and after that i found 5 or 6 more 😄 lol
At least that one skeleton running up and destroying a turnip in front of me seems to have been an anomaly. If that was a new norm, I was going to lose my mind.
don't say such terrible things .. that makes me want to cry... 🙁 turnips are the most precious resource to find and so hard to get... no spice rack no good food for the next biomes, you will always lag behind one biome with the food quality
Had that happened once, I was just going to grab the seeds and draugr archer before me shot at me, but the flower took the shot.
Its only happened once, a few weeks back. Seen plenty since then, and none of the skellies attacked them.
i once had to search through entire biome just for turnip
yeah turnips can be brutal
well, i feel like my mind is messing me becasue in old world, i see abomination often and often blocking my way, but now i never saw abomination once. what is happening??
Turnips are much like the crypts, you have to find the larger swamps to have the best chance of finding them. You can still find them in small swamps, its just much less likely.
It does seem like they have lowered their spawn frequency. It used to be easy for me to make suits of root armor at lvl 4.
If it is a normal run, then I will not enter small swamps but in a trophy hunt you have 3 or 4h and you go where bonemass is be it small or big swamp 😄
When it did?
If they did it would have been during the last year or two. I took a year long break.
@keen sierra I have been having trouble finding aboms lately too... but the same magick as for turnips applies ... If Ido not need them anymore, they show up everywhere
i think that was last year
Nah, in my current world they are all over any swamp I enter basically, except the typical narrow strips between a tall mountain island and the sea.
abomination was big headaches for me in 2021-2024
I have stacks of root after my iron farming, and I don't even use the crap
same holds true for wraith... I run around a whole night in the swamp and find one near dawn... and next night them buggiers show up everywhere 🙁
Maybe that is the trick. Stop making the suits. 😄
Probably - the magic extends to not letting you find what you need
It is always thus, in any game where you loot for stuff
hmmmm i'm ready to get last totem for plains boss
maybe I should go about the whole thing with : oh it is fine if I do not have good food and good armor... I will just run around with mushrooms and berriees it will be fine 😄
it will be my third time of the great fight
"It'll be fine" said in a Scottish accent even!
I am afraid the only accent I know to do in english is german accent 😄 LOL
I got my 5th totem earlier today. I have no idea how many times I have already fought him, though. Easily 20 or more times.
I still need to find him.
i am afraid only accent i know to do in english is in no accent :P
Just watch "The Critical Drinker" take on a really shitty film like Prometheus, you'll hear it 😄
I do not believe you...everybody got an accent even in his native language 😄 texans talk differently than scottish or New Zealanders 😄
you forgot one thing, i'm deaf
i never spoken once
@roar okay... then... english is not you native language...that explains things 😄
Oh, I answered the wrong person. Dangit
lol, i know 2 languages :)
I used to do a decent Russian accent, but since Nastya hasn't lived with us for decades now, my Russian is nearly non existent.
well not really normal for american :P
Are spawners a wee bit unreliable? Been standing next to an Evil Bone Pile for a few minutes and nothing has spawned from it
well I speak english, italian, a bit japanese and my native german... learning languages is my second hobby (after valheim) 😄
i speak a little bit other langauge, like german
they spawn two mobs and if they are alive they do not spawn others
I killed them all
We have no need. We are a massive country. So its best if we all try to have a common language. Like I only learned as much Mexican as I did, because I lived on the border with Mexico for over 15 years.
damn, "speak" word is not really okay word for deaf me :(
@roar..you could use "communicate" instead 😄
Oh that's true but not for me because how i am supposed to talk to other then
ASL, American Sign Language, is how most deaf and mute people communicate, aside from writing. Some deaf people do master speaking as well.
Do the bone piles ever spit out the green buggers?
Nope.
I often find them AT those spawners, but they never get spawned by them.
German Deaf people do not use ASL 😄 and neither do dutch or italian deaf people...there sign language for every other spoken languages 😄
Yup, it's very rare
I'm aware, but I don't live there. Just visited. So just talking about what I know.
like ~500,000 signer
Just a reminder that this is the Valheim chat channel 👍
AND Draugr Elites.
Draugr Elites stops being scary rather quickly, id say
That's always confused me, I learned a bit of sign language when my ex wife worked with a deaf guy and learned it, and I thought FUCK YEAH THIS IS THE COMMON TONGUE and then I met a foreign deaf guy and...nope 😄
Starred and no stars.
The trick with Draugr Elites is to kill them
Thats the trick for absolutely everything.
I wouldnt apply that trick for building a house
But you can still tear them down that way.
That is true
Sure is - kill greydorfs and you get both wood and stone for the house!
I had a deaf friend when I was a kiddo ...we invented your own sign language for the alphabeth with our hands so it would be possible to communicate even without paper and pen at hand .... i still know how to do it today 😄
That's good
They still segregated disabled people when I was young, so never got such chances.
I think there's gonna be a purge in here soon, #general is like one row above this one 😉
Heh, General talks Valheim about as much as we do in this channel.
😄 😄 Just like they are doing right now.
Oh yes, I'm just saying. I'm gonna get another drink and then find another Burial Chamber - want a ghost trophy!
True 🙂 but that is a channel with wide range of topics, including valheim, this one is for valheim specifically 😄
Yeah, I am going back to playing Valheim. I have a lot to build and scout for.
i love new ghost by the way, it looks much better
yeah I like it too. The old one was scary, but kinda boring
Scary because there was no visual cue to parry
The lower part could have looked bit more ethereal, otherwise looks cool.
Old ghost had it's own charm, but it was harder to read it's attacks.
my only complaint is the trophy looks very small and insignificant on the wall. they should have make it a bit bigger 😄
btw - 2 chambers, 20 surtling cores, never seen anything like it
When I need those cores I come out with one or two, if any...
...magic!
Best haul from one chamber is 18 surtling cores for me (normal loot multiplier).

is there any little chance that we will get deep north for christmas? that would be the best present ever
it would be nice because I am on vacation but I iwould not hold my breath over it
No, I wouldn't hold my breath about that, unless you mean next Christmas
😕
Let 'em cook. They always deliver peak.
As much as I'd like for it to be sooner, though 😂
as a winter enjoyer i could wait more for it to be more perfect
Remember, Deep North is not "just" going to be another biome, it will be 1.0 - final release. So in addition to everything surrounding the Deep North itself, it will have a heap of balancing and other changes. It will take time, and once it is ready for testing that testing will take a good while.
playing deep north in the winter would be so cozy
I am of the opinion that it is best to let them DEVs work it all out nicely for us instead of trying to rush it for christmas. 😄 I am enjoying the call to arms update so much and will be happy to wait for how ever long it takes to get DN just right
yeah i know
true, i just didnt really know how far are they in the update development progress
We may even see some updates like that before deep north.
Smaller additions and stuff. Maybe a new trader, but thats just speculating
also...getting to master the chaos of the ashlands BEFORE I need to figure out the Deep North will take a while longer anyways 😄
Nope, already stated that no major updates coming this year
to be real...this year is nearly done... it is already end of november 😄 the last few days to christmas will be gone in a jiffy 😄
That was Terraria for me 😂
Almost there for valheim. I see you play ARC too?
Working on 1000 for that too 😂
@radio I got over 6k hours in 😄 lol
yea i started playing later than release, i have 55 hours
Its consumed me, im nearing 300
yo nice
terraria is also goated i have 550 there
i also got 800 in grounded pretty much mastered the game
Grounded was tons of fun, couldn't do it tho cause the spiders lol. Thought it could be used as a sort of exposure therapy.
I know its got the arachnophobia setting, but they look so goofy with it on
Grounded was fun but only two times... after that I know the story and the outcome by heart 😄
new game plus was the king
It's gotten to the point where I can't play without mods installed
grinded so hard i could beat every boss not even getting hit a single time
Base terraria feels like a desert to me now
true
I played terraria way back when, last I remember wall of flesh was the final boss.
I'm planning to give a try to what's currently seen as Valheim's rival in the industry, some game called Enshrouded
never played it
Enshrouded is great. Some would but I don't consider it a rival I think. Theyre doing different things.
You should see Runescape dragon wilds tho, last I played just felt like I was playing valheim with a differdnt coat of paint
There's a reddit post putting the two up against eachother with hundreds of answers, I consider it rivalry lol
Meh, people will argue about literally anything on internet 😄
Games are rarely put up against eachother like that unless they share a good bit of similarities
Was gonna say that 💀
Prolly a "Valheim vs. X " Post all over reddit
Google it and see what pops up first then come back to me, lol
Regardless, seems that between the two enshrouded has more content while valheim's strength as usual is replayability so I'm looking forward to the former more, never was a fan of replaying games without any new additional content since trying it last
For me personally, the Norse setting along with the absolutely phenomenal "feel" of the visuals is what makes Valheim. There might appear other games with better building, or better balance or whatever really - but the combo of all these things in Valheim has no match, not yet anyway.
I might recall somewhere someone naming many of those games as "Valheim-likes".
That says something
Many end up trying those games due to the waiting, only to find out the superiority of Valheim.
I've always seen valheim as a jack of all trades kind of game. If I pick it apart into its segments I'll definitely find a game that has done that specific part better (I.E. I'll definitely give the Norse setting to God of War), but put together it does wonders
I have played many games, smalland, stranded deep, enshrouded, the long dark, rimworld and so on and so forth (and a lot of RPG too) but Valheim has the most replay value for me. That is maybe just my personal opinion but Valheim does not get old because it is predictably unpredictable 😄
all the others are same same every playthrough (that is my personal experiance and opinion only)
I think one of the stand outs for me was the souls like combat mechanics. It was very easy to get used to how to fight/felt smoother.
(Thank God for the height combat fix)
There is certainly a lot to do with randomly generated worlds to add that replayability.
I almost had a catastrophe; I didn't realize rugs could catch fire... until mine did. Had to demolish stairs to put out the fire before it burnt down my house. Oops. 😅
I am on my first playthrough with fire hazards on...thanks for the heads up 😄 will make sure to not place a rug to close to the fire... have managed to not burn down my house so far but I only reached mountain level as of yet
Good luck. :D I'm only in bronze age.
Going no where near reddit, big dawg
If anything tho, after time playing both I'd say they😂 have less in common then people are probably making out.
But thats me. Not saying thats how it is.
I never go near reddit it is a sesspool most of the times. The things I read people writing about it is way enough for me to not want to be there for a second 😄
Will find out myself soon. Reddit's just the most common ground for discussions where you can suck up enough info by finding multiple matching andwers
Not just for games, pretty much everything lol, just the other day I was digging through it for script executors
could the T.W.I.G techincally be good defense? i mean they heal rapidly, and would be a distraction
I think enemy mobs won't attack them.
Not 100% sure tho.
They certainly don't attack other than players.
i think i played back then too, but quickly they launched hardmode and then many many many patches after that 🙂 definitely should play it again, you might just have played 10-20% of what is now.
Wall of flesh was never the final boss, it was added in the same update as the mechanical bosses
on mobile the mechanical bosses were released later but not on every other platform
i don't remember hallow from my first playthrough
That would've been before 1.1
Or skeletron
Its been years dawg, I dont remember 💀
Imma consider it. Terraria is awesome.
They still updating it?
I remember they were like "THIS IS THE LAST UPDATE" then proceeding to release more and more
they never stopped, just some pauses.
major patch coming in dec, likely
but yeah i remember even the forum posts about stopping updates
back when forums were the main community hubs, long before discord was even a dirty thought in some guys mind
Would be a fun base defence thing if they did. Since they're stationary not OP in any way, just something to delay mobs with.
Ive been theory crafting a lot of creative base defense methods
Have yet to put them in use tho
Scouting was a good idea. Found two roots, and they started killing hares for me, especially the squittos. So I started to make my Plains base and soon what do I hear? Gjall. So now its time to make Barley wine sooner rather than later.
Fire wine made, Gjall defeated. So now to build my plains base. I wonder how many more Gjall will come bother me?
Many. And after that, many more 😄
Free bug kebabs
Likely. Its what I am anticipating. If it wants to come out onto the plains to get me, I am happy to kill them.
cople of ballistae will do it for you, especially if you put them at ground level.
I'm just starting to get black metal/plains gear.
Actually, now I am playing with my wife. So this character could do that, since we are ready for the Ashlands.
Valheim Fried Chicken?
VIKING FRIED CHICKEN!
You should see Satisfactory’s Arachnophobia mode… more terrifying than the actual spiders…
-# I got murdered by a giant pixelated cat head…
Is there a way to see who's hosting the instance?
From ||Haldor (after defeating Yag)|| or the tower?
yoo
bro spoiled
except i dont know either of those bosses so it didnt spoil anything
Typically clicking spoiler censored text runs the risk of being spoiled 😅
yea ik idrc if i get spoiled or not
TOMORROW WE BEAT THE ELDER
Good luck!
Im in my first run but the combat seems easy on regular difficulty is the next step up drastic or will it just make the game a little more challenging
where in the game are you at currently
What biome are you in
Swamp
Swamp is usually where people find difficulty, so if its easy for you I'd bump it up to hard yeah
Big thing about hard is mobs do +50% damage
I had heard 2* draugers were a death sentence but I 1v3d one with a bronze buckler abd an iron spear
The archers smack more
melee do 50 damage archers do 90-100 damage
If you play dark souls the combat here is simple
I do not play souls
The archers do the same damage as melee draugr. People just struggle with archers more because they're ranged and will shoot you from out of nowhere
yea elden ring helped me for these predictable ass trolls
The trolls have been my only deaths besides a couple mosquitos when I thought plains was the 3rd biome
I think hard would be a good step for you. I don't recommend Very Hard, as at that point you end up getting oneshot by a lot of mobs unless you're building heavy armor + 3x health foods, and because parrying becomes difficult to do (as in, physically impossible because you can't parry mobs that have too high damage)
@paper marsh they smack more because with the ranged advantage are able to do more damage per second. Don’t you “umm actually” us
On hard, it's basically like every mob is 1 star
Just depends on what you prefer to fight. Imo archer shots are easier to sidestep while you're fighting someone else since they attack from range, and can be nullified pretty easily with a ||root harnesk||
You can 2 step backwards the melee without dodging and get a hit off. Use a polearm aoe to stagger them all
Yeah. There's good strategies for both. I don't necessarily think one is worse
Though I do really hate archers when I don't see them on my screen
Against melee I actually have to step backwards though, which stops me from fighting the other enemies around me. Against archers I can stay engaged with the melee enemy I am fighting by sidestepping instead
Atgeir does trivialize any melee encounter though, I'll admit. I personally don't use bows or atgeirs due to their power
fdound a bee hive, how to get its honey? and can i somehow harvest it to bring it back to my base 5000m away and farm bee hives there
Shoot it to break it
It'll drop some honey, and a queen bee that you can use to craft your own hive at home
fire arrows work?
Any damage will work
ty i got it
i can make meads now lets gooo
Hi is this the official discord server for valheim? I guess just want wanting to voice a concern about something I heard about. Mainly the plan to not make or do major updates after 1.0(if that is still the case). I feel like that is a bad idea and robs a lot of games of their potential(it happened with a game I enjoyed that now is hard to play because it feels so strongly that it missed out/could've been a lot more).
Just after hearing that wanted to find the discord to voice my worries.
looool. do you do this for every server? 😛
Well not really this is the first one that came up I think when searching for valheims discord server.
heh, do you not recognize me from ksa?
Ah, did you want to fund the studio to continue working on a product with a one time selling price? 😅
Developing further attracts more players still, on top of retaining current ones which in turn can retain a community, which also functions kind of like advertising to get even more players if the game becomes extremely good while allowing lots of freedoms.
I'm just going to assume you don't have a lot of insight where the costs of continuing development would reach, and comfortably putting the entire team on a yearly salary isn't likely with the model you're suggesting.
There are plans to continue updating, but likely only where time can be spared alongside newer projects. It can be better for developers and players alike if the studio takes what they've learned from creating Valheim, and continues to make more games we can all be passionate about.
I just hope it doesn't feel like abandonment. Where a game is left with issues or annoyances that could and should be fixed, maybe biomes could have some tweaks or additions occasionally.
I have faith it won't feel like that personally, there's comments made by one of the developers, and their stance is that Valheim is the type of game that can be added to forever.
valheim has been the most polished and refined early access game I've ever played... bya pretty significant margin
I think that speaks to their position well enough.
Oh I didn't know that, to be honest I only heard about them saying they don't want to do much after 1.0 because of achievements which I strongly disagree with. So is the wiki a bit out of date? or well fandom atleast? I don't know of a non-fandom valheim wiki sadly.
It's only speculation based on an interview done not long ago really, I can't say if the wiki is up to date or not.
Well I just hope it is true that valheim won't just be essentially frozen like the deep north in its current state lol.
Also 2 things I think it could use, a way to secure boats to a dock properly so they don't slowly get damaged by walls and such.
Maybe the ashlands having spawn rates strongly nerfed, but spawners strongly buffed(well and fixed to not spawn inside stuff from what I have heard) giving the player some control and a way to reduce the spam without spamming builds to block spawns everywhere nearby.
Wanted to say those and get thoughts before I forget.
Do those ideas sound nice?
have you been to the ashlands yet?
Yea on one playthrough, haven't progressed back to it yet but I had to place lots of artisan tables in structures to stop the spawning by my base. Which also had a annoying issue where in rare cases a lava slime would get into a fight with something and blow it up.
boat idea is nice, although its not very hard to deconstruct it either for long term storage if you're really worried about its health. its a pretty minor issue with low ROI imo
even in bad storms boats don't get that damaged, and a few whacks with the hammer its back to full
So I guess I also feel like lava slimes(I forget what they are called) should be tweaked to avoid exploding with no player involvement
campfires are also spawner blockers
and the ashlands isn't an area that's really supposed to feel "homey" -- I don't mind that its hostile and unpleasant
just like the swamps. I absolutely hate them but wouldn't have them any other way
The swamps for me atleast don't appear to have the issues the ashlands has for me. I guess in the ashlands a lot of aspects feel more annoying over like a challenge, I guess partially because you can't do anything about them really. The enemy spam might not feel as bad after the deep north though because then you can progress to higher gear and be able to have a easier time with them, but the lava slimes exploding due to fighting other things aside from the player I feel should be changed. It just results in having to run around to repair and maintain a bunch of stuff which isn't fun or a challenge, just is a annoyance.
Great I play a game for a long time then finally get the ability to say my thoughts, I have suggestion buildup lol
you could just... not build a bunch of stuff in the ashlands. a single fortified hut with a portal isn't hard to build and maintain. Everywhere else I go is pretty much all temporary/pocket portals
like, it is annoying if you treat it like every other biome -- but that's kinda the thing that makes valheim nice, is that there are differences between biomes that make you treat one area differently from the others
I know but it is still something I would like to see changed. I am not sure entirely how, just some way to avoid lava slimes exploding due to a dvergr. Feels like a unnecessary cutoff of options as building in a challenging area can be a very fun aspect of games.
It isn't like a super major thing but just a annoyance I would really like to be changed.
I personally like that ashlands switches it up with the lava blob. Having something able to do some real damage and it shows the scars of war if you don't patch things up, pretty accurate to the biome
Regarding the mob density I'll admit I mostly played ashlands in beta (when mob spawn rate was way higher / huge agro radius) and I did find it a bit annoying being in a fight non-stop, but also I think the enemy density is a big part of the difficulty of the biome, and I really really want biomes to be harder as you progress. I don't want Ashlands to end up being super tame
I am fine with it exploding, just dislike it often doing it when you aren't involved damaging the terrain and your stuff.
Oh also I don't mean like nerfing the difficulty of the spawns but mainly shifting it to spawners so if you stay there for a bit you can make the local area a lot easier.
What do you mean by shifting it to spawners? If the biome is tame outside of the spawners, sounds like you can just explore with no worries as long as you don't go near the spawners
The spawners could be stronger, have a bigger spawn radius and such. Maybe like a new variant or something that is much bigger but spawns creatures in a huge radius.
I just don't really see how it changes things
I don't know exactly but feel a lot could be done to kind of upgrade the spawners/make them more interesting
If the spawner is too small, you can avoid it
If it's too big, it's the same as current. Just mobs spawning everywhere
but if you fight strong enough you could eventually destroy the spawner giving you likely a smallish safe area that while still having spawns isn't to spam levels
Mainly just you aren't locked into a constant spam fight and have the option if you really want to, to do something about it in your local area. Is nice to give players options in my opinion. It likely would be super hard though, and only really viable for small areas, well unless you get like 10 maxed out players just storming everything lol, but at that point the spam probably isn't much anyway.
Also I think it being bigger spawners would be nice so you aren't just going around destroying lots and lots of small ones, looking under rocks too. Having a clear target could be nice so you aren't looking around doing the same thing 20 times.
I enjoy how the Ashlands feels now personally, it offers enough growing pains to feel good when you overcome them, and begin to traverse the biome with minimal worry.
I don't want progression of the biome to have it become barren.
Personally I feel like Ashlands is a fine biome. Some changes could be interesting but not really needed imo
Only one thing that I really hate about Ashlands is the forts. They're so boring and bland and simple and the same thing every single time. I did make the mistake of getting attached to the devs early concept art for the forts, but idk. The final product is just very disappointing to me
Which is understandable in a procedurally generated game with engine limitations, but it's just sad
yeah, squares are boring
I saw mentions of the original plan being like a dungeon entrance in the middle of the fort? that would be a nice addition later on.
Probably a bit easier though than the outside of the fort as a break, but still challenging.
Also I don't mean like clearing the spawners makes the biome barren, it still is very difficult, just not like to a level where you are constantly fighting, rest is possible.
Oh also am wondering I hope the deep north adds more ways to get the gems and such, a issue with the ashlands I recall is that the total amount available on the map is pretty small. Expanding on the forts could probably allow more too.
I highly doubt that the deep north will have more of the ashlands gems. The key resources in biomes tend to be pretty specific to those biomes to make them special
It could introduce new gems, but tbh I think they'll go in a different direction than gems
But yeah the gems are pretty scarce, I wouldn't mind a buff to the fort gem drop rates in ashlands
If they did the dungeon thing, they could potentially add more layers to forts to also add more spots for gems. Maybe even like stuff you can mine. Would be pretty. Progress to the deepest level of a fort through the strongest challenges yet to reach a peaceful cave full of gem pillars. I love hidden oasis essentially. Where behind a super deadly area is a lovely pretty and calm area that you don't want to leave.
Yet more suggestions/buildup from my brain lol:
Could dvergrs potentially get more updates? just a friend of mine was annoyed that your only option seemed to be fighting them, would be nice if you could kind of befriend them trade and such too.
As portals are a big part of the game could they potentially be made more like seamless teleportation? A kind of fogged projection of the other side with you being able to bring things through with you?
I didn't go into the ideas too much as I was rushing to type them as my brain was losing that train of thought.
Various versions of hiring/trading with dvergr have been suggested, devs have shot the suggestions down. They want to keep a feel of you being a solo viking, not hiring an army of minions / relying on others
idk about other things, but I believe devs took a stance on no pets through portals
Well pets wasn't really the main thing I wanted, just seamlessly walking through them, and being able to take a cart through.
Also I didn't really think about hiring, just like the option of trading instead of killing them for the stuff you need, on top of maybe just some ways to get stuff in a renewable way.
Well plus a way for dvergr to well "repopulate" lol so their forts don't quickly get widdled down and abandoned by small fights. I am joking around just mainly like they can get new members maybe children can spawn sometimes if there are enough adults that grow up.
-# chicken trophies tho
Yeah the trading too I think they shut down, as you're supposed to challenge them
Though you only have to do that to like a few outposts and then you can leave the rest in peace
I do also wish they could repopulate
I feel like they should reconsider trading, is a bit annoying and feels mean to have to run and kill a bunch of innocent people to progress.
Also allowing them to repopulate could be fun depending on how it is done, in minecraft I often have enjoyed expanding on and upgrading villages, so allowing a way to expand and add onto their bases could be nice. I don't know that is probably crossing the line. Maybe if the way todo it is only unlocked after the deep north is finished?
Could be fun to kind of populate your bases and make a town with you and dvergr.
I am dreaming I get that though lol
If i go herd some wolves will they die in the swamp
how do i kill the gremlins in the plains
i am sick and tired of these little mfs just oneshotting me
@forest jacinth Wolves I recall are not very tanky and can pretty easily be killed by stuff. So I feel like you shouldn't take all your wolves into the swamp, they might help, but I feel like they might need stars todo much.
@last edge how far have you progressed in the game? I suggest trying to avoid the plains till ready, but what you can do is try to take on one at a time and utilize parrying, or keep your distance with a decent bow and lots of arrows to kill them before they reach you.
The plains is a pretty late game area even if it doesn't look like it at first.
ok. i have no clothes but a really cool white cape and a silver hammer and sheild
even when i block they still take my whole bar
I suggest you build mountain armor instead of trying to go into the plains. Also I mean parry, where you block right as they attack giving a bonus to the shield effectiveness and stunning the enemy allowing you to deal a lot more damage.
Blocking or Parry, you still need high HP to be effective. How much have you advanced your foods?
You could also try dodge rolling and hit right after they attack I haven't tried that much.
Thats good for mountains, but not so good for the plains.
If okay to ask though, do you have armor? or did you lose it? just not having armor massively increases damage delt to you
what food is?
Food from wolves and onions.
i have the black one with the blue eyes but i take the same with and without it, and it looks funky with my belt
Skewers.
sounds good. what level cauldron is that?
I think 4. I'd have to be in game to be sure. If you can't make skewers your definitely not high enough.
I think you need whats called a Chopping block.
Not until you kill Moder.
I don't feel like food will be that helpful though without armor, plains creatures can take you down fast, much faster than you can regenerate most likely.
You will also need to kill her in order to unlock the plains foods.
Shields rely on the HP foods. Armor reduces damage done after it gets through the shields.
Oh I am confused but it fair to still think getting full armor should be the focus before entering the plains?
I would. It is the only thing that protects you from everything you miss blocking or parrying.
is that the dragon? i used cold mead and the draugr fang to get her but now i have a kamehameha orb.
Yeah, Moder is the mountain boss. A big dragon.
but then the gremlins came to my house in like an event
thats why i am asking how to kill them as i need revenge
Yep. Moder unlocks the horde.
I got them as soon as I went home after beating her earlier today.
Moder is Queen of the Dragons.
I like moder, well plus her tears are useful for spawn blocking since you don't need to upgrade to get the full radius.
The trick with moder is to kill her
Its a bit random to get a good fight with her. She can get trapped in rocks, and be easy to beat, things like that. I just like everything she unlocks for moving the game forward.
we need vikings war type shit server
how to find hidir and meadows trader ?
only found spawn trader and i am currentely in moutains
spawn trader? swamp?
Hildir is the Meadows trader.
Theres no trick, just keep looking around. You can detect them from really far away so just circle around islands with your boat.
