Dammit, again - Mistlands is so damn beautiful...when you can see it. Hopping along the coast just to map out the last bits of my home island (and trying to locate more mines) and the archipelago bits clear of smoke...er, mist...are so pretty. Hats off to the guys who designed it. ❤️

I'd love if that dvergr wisplight beacon (that clears a much larger area than the regular wisplight) would just become a buildable piece using marble, wisps and maybe a bit of eitr and copper. It could require black forge to build, so you couldn't spam it to cheeze mistlands entirely, but imo it wouldn't even need to wait for the queen's demise.

I'm on a no-portals run so I've had to build an outpost where I have my shroom and sap farm, it has turned into my second base with time. I think I have like 60-70 wisplights placed around it, looks stupid. Would be much nicer with those beacons instead.

Camp fires and more rarely, work benches, can stop working against spawns. To date, breaking them down and rebuilding them has made them work again. So you may want to try that before giving up on them entirely.

I have no idea as to why. I can just safely say it is not due to mods or using dev commands, because I have never used mods, and the last time I used a dev command was well over a year ago.

They are afraid of fire. Not the brutes or shaman, but the rest are. So you can use that to make them erratic, run away, come back, etc...

As for the rest, if your shield work isn't good enough yet, make the stake walls with platforms for you to go up on, and use fire arrows on the brutes and shaman.

I always turn shadows down in every game, since they eat a lot of resources for almost no gain: you're probably looking at characters/mobs most of the time, not their shadows, so you just need something there to make your brain think "this is realistic enough" to trick it into believing there's a fully detailed shadow

the way i play valheim, it falls squarely in the latter camp, and i would sacrifice quite a lot of framerate for higher graphics settings

I think I am weird - I get this strong satisfaction from growing and farming mats, and then spending them on cooking/crafting stuff - then I get all stressed by the empty slots in the chests and have to go back to replenish it all - even though there's still like 90% of the chest's capacity left.

Golems are also <bleeps> but they can be excellent guard dogs if you have a mountain base. Catch them in a pit near your base and they will attract wolves, drakes and other annoying things and keep them away from your house.

Big drawback with the bucklers is that when you fail to, or just cannot, parry, their block value is bollocks. Hence I always use regular shields, more fumble allowance..

I got into not dying at all, so do what I have found to be the best way to not die. I still usually die, but its not all that often. Especially considering I usually take 500+ days to even get into the Mistlands. I typically die 6 to 8 times by the time I beat the Mistlands Queen.

Dealing with the adds is harder than dealing with the queen, she butters you up nicely for the adds to finish off.

Eikthyr is a pretty perfect first boss to me. Looks cool, sounds awesome - and does punish the most damaging noob mistakes. It is a mild skill check, forcing the worst players to snap out of their daze and use a few brain cells for the fight.

On my first server we had a mountain close to spawn, one of the guys ran up a hill to take a peek, aggroed a fenrir and fled back into the meadows bringing it with him. That thing then walked around the woods stalking us and the local wildlife until we gathered our wits and ganged up to kill it. Was a MUCH tougher fight than Eikthyr haha

It's just a basic round tower with no decorations whatsoever - it's a light house, doesn't need any decorations... But what annoys me is that a birch tree on the shore behind me always renders WAY earlier than the tower and the bonfire, so as a light house it is practically useless. THIS is the reason I'll be looking into some kind of mod to increase render/building draw distance once 1.0 is out.

That was a disappointment. With Full Iron Max Level, Iron Buckler Iron Mace, 50 Block, 90 Club, i could block every attack, stagger him, and it took about 9 hits to kill 😂

I learned that Vile have a static spawn area so when you see one, you can come back to the same chunk to get them to respawn. I got very lucky to have a vile spawn right outside Hildir's camp in my world.

I think so. Been a while since I have seen that discussed. Personally I prefer Porcupine, but I start using swords then as well, in preparation for the Mistlands.

Yeah, I stick to the border until I kill a bunch of draugr and hopefully find some yellow flowers, then get those foods going. THEN I start going into the swamps, since I can now more easily deal with what is in there. Unless they have 2 stars. Then I still run, until I have some iron.

i actually find it useful to take your time walking slowly through the swamp staying calm and keeping your bearings, instead of gathering a horde of enemies behind you and running til you die.

Yeah, you can always switch. With TWIG you can even train to a decent skill level pretty quickly in both sword and shield (blocking skill)
