You can dismantle the tanning racks, and core wood logs, though.
With work bench and hammer.
I wonder how close you can build to their village without it being a constant headache
Same for bonfires
After you kill them all? They don't respawn.
You only get the usual randoms around that area.
They aggro from a good distance over any noise.
i suck at building i wanna get better but man im not creative how do i fix
look at other ppl's builds in screenshot channel, on reddit or youtube and take what u like
Practice is the biggest thing to do, watching you tube vidoes can help too.
yea there's youtube videos that can show u some tricks and thangs
I also got invited to peoples worlds, where they showed me how they did things like chimneys and other complicated stuff.
also go to ur moms house since she has house hunters on 24/7 and see whats in style
i straight up stole like 80% of my new swamp treehouse from a youtube video
You can also look in #1024264966712340510 for dedicated building servers. I got a lot of help on a couple of those a couple of years back. So hopefully people still run them.
if I build something its always good, for me the problem is the front end paralysis for days before building the first piece
I still suck at making things look stylish. But I do solid builds now, instead of the barely standing shacks I started with.
yea once you've seen what other ppl have built, you can't go back to box with a roof
I can, but those are my hunting/exploring shacks. Not my bases.
oh my goodness my base is so ugly T_T it has me cackling
its the resource gathering too
is it possible to just turn mist off (temporarily) like I'm just trying to scope out terrain and take screenshots and I cant see shit
no shame in 3xing it
There is probably dev commands that do it. I presume you mean in Mistlands?
Oh, yeah, that fog can be a major pain.
might as well be mistlands, now that u mention it, tbh
Its always been able to get bad. I really hate it when I am sailing.
@hoary peak one specific thing that might help is looking up creative roof designs on youtube
Get in those water zones where there is no land, but says its plains, then get that pea soup fog. Drives me nuts.
oofta
Then there is land, but you don't know it until you run aground.
omg how do i do this?
world modifier settings before u enter the game
is that cheating?
no
the game is grindy enough
u can 3x your resources and you are still going to hate it sometimes
ill do that thank you
I think a lot of ppl who do aesthetic builds turn off resrouce consumption completely anyway
i've been on this world for like 24 hours now since the beginning of the week and the progress has been a grind
yea I justified it to myself that I was playing solo and the game is balanced around a group of ppl all gathering
but in reality, like how many hours do you want to spend running around collecting berries for the 50th time
or how many dungeons do you want to run
do you want to run the same dungeon 15 times or is 5 good enough
ive been running so many dungeons
you're right haha
i like the tediousness of it but it gets too grindy at a point
the game is so huge without the grind
like do u want to play for 1000 hours or is 300 hours good lol
Heh.
Personally I think the game is very generous with resources and build costs, compared to other survival games anyways.
This is the first one I have gotten into seriously. Never took a liking to the others.
300 is fantastic
I dont even know if 300h is reasonable for a first time player to finish the game? In my original play thru I didn't finish mistlands
Personally think you should play your first time on default. See how the developer meant for you to play, etc... but you know your schedule, etc...
you get to choose when u will want to quit the game
play default, be ready to quit in black forest bc u are tired of mining copper
I've done the equivalent for other survival games.
admittedly, my attention span isnt the best
No crime committed in doing that. You paid for the game, you get to decide the value you get out of it.
but there are also so many other games to enjoy that I'll never get to so why waste time unnecessarily
im currently in da swamp rn and its a slog cuz i suck
someone is going to be like "oh you sweet meadows child"
I get excited about mining copper, because I will build a straight road/necessary bridges to cart everything back home after surveying for the nearest large black forest.
There is a lot to learn to make things as easy as possible, for sure. Big part of why I took so strongly to this game. I enjoyed figuring that all out.
All the way from what weapons to use, when. What armors to use, what shields to use, use various other equipment, or don't, farm, don't farm, hunt, don't hunt, when is enough, enough, tame, don't tame, and so on...
yea its tricky
if you're a vet and u know what u want to use then u can save a lot of time and materials
if you're playing for the first time it kinda behooves you to try everything which takes a lot more time and materials
I've still never used an atgeir and I started a new game with a buddy who is new to the game
gave him one and he's been tearing ass with it, wont use anything else lol
I've tried it a few times. I can't stand how it "moves". I've been getting more used to it with TWIG, though. So I might start using them.
fellas anyone know a good mod to bypass the process of building a base?
Like i want to just be able to prebuild a base in an area and slowly add the materials i need into it instead of building it piece by piece.
#mods-discussion Probably the best place to ask.
#building-screenshots message
Fog finally lifted. This is the area I was talking about building my plains base (village in proximity)
Looks good. You can make good boat docks there too, if you even want them.
ya and down from the pic is a throughway that I am constantly sailing back and forth through
also 3 tarpits nearby, in the wooded area behind the stonehenge
I want to build with the terrain, I like hte look of the streams and all, wanna keep as much of that intact as poss
Leave them spawning, and 3 more tar every few game days.
People don't seem to realize it, but that adds up if your play long enough, and need tar for more building.
u mean dont drain the tarpit, just kill the growths?
Plus now you need that trophy for that tar bomb.
No, even drained it spawns a new single one every few days.
ah ok
So if you have 3 conveniently near by, 3 rather easy ones to go get. If you like that tar bomb, more chances for the trophy for those bombs.
I havent messed with the bombs yet
My wife loves using them. She is still figuring out which to use, when.
Poison, tar, freezing, she's having fun with them.
Yay! I almost have full iron chests full of silver, iron and black metal. Now to work on it for tin, copper and bronze. Bronze taking the longest, since it takes so much of the other two. At least Mistlands helps a lot with copper.
is it viable to fight bosses with melee weapons or do you only use ranged? haven't done my first boss yet
Melee is viable. Just have a good shield and weapon to use for that boss. Especially later. Certain types of weapons may be better than others.
If your not good at parry, use a tower shield and just block.
Also, Hit points are key to using shields. So the higher your foods make your HP, the better you do.
You still probably want one food to be good for stamina, though.
Golem Trophy is wild lookin
Melee is a bit more challenging but does more damage.
Range with high bow skill is vv satisfying. Takes a while to level up your bow skill tho. Also you trade safety with stamina management and resources for arrows
Thanks yall
Many bosses resist pierce damage so bows aren’t always effective against them
There's an axe arrow?
how does hosting work do you need to rent a server like minecraft?
When playing multiplayer, the person who opens the world is hosting it and people can access that world only when the host is online. Renting a server is necessary only if you plan to set up a dedicated server, which is free for people to join without needing someone specifically to host. But about that you can ask in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202550119191412736 for more info.
You can also run a dedicated server at home if you have a spare PC and a stable connection. Valheim servers are not very demanding, I run mine on an old office PC I bought dirt cheap
whats the highest spirit damage weapon as of ashlands? mistwalker right? or did they add any new spirit weapons?
silver sword and crystal battleaxe both have 30 i think, mistwalker max 15
but frostner is probably even better, because of Blunt damage
cheers
ahh acctually silver sword on lvl 4 does 45 spirit, even better
is it worth using silver sword in the ashlands tho? isnt it a bit outdated
Against charred Its better than mistwalker and costs less stamina 🙂
is this game made to get ppl nuts ? U die before u can put a portal n then u have 2 lox, 2 small n 2 large goblins and then all the mosquitos there guarding your loot
2025-2030
2030?
Might be 2040, but Rianu likes to remain optimistic.
2025-2030 is very long year range.
can the boss marker on the map showing wrong place?
So my elder marker on the map is marking empty spot, no altar to summon elder.
You mean you don't want the devs to break the "7 days to die" development record?
If you're on an old seed, yes.
No. Unless you loaded a map from a game that was started before the release of the CtA update.
New PoI's have the nasty habit of breaking the location markers on the map of those that have been located, but not being visited yet.
oh i see, there's two elder marker on my map, so it should be the other one? 🤔
after Silksong
Was your strategy to place the workbench and portal when you are just about to die?
it wasn't even funny the first time
I thought those things were restricted to the black forest?
yes i let them kill me sp i can make a new boat n go there again. Was gonna kill the 1 lox so i could put down the wb n portal but damn all these rats xome running out there holes 🙂
oh rly? 🤔
Wait until you step off the boat in ashlands
Hello! Last played Mistlands, had fun but did not like the traversal. Ashlands & Deep North, how is it comparitivly?
Deep north isn’t finished yet
kk, thx
Uh... traveling TOO the Ashlands is hell because they randomly added spires.
Traveling afterwards is "better" because they added Cheat Portal once you get there.
I mean Stone Portal....
You will travel just as slowly in the ashlands due to the mob density
Terrain?
Unless you're specifically running to a point in the biome then you can just zoom over
terrain is better in ashlands then in the mistlands, but ashlands is more cluttered with mobs
Okay, thanks. Prefer to fight through that slide down elevation. Who needs to die for me to access Ashlands? (besides myself multiple times) XD
Your boat, and potentially the portal you put down within 3 seconds
Ouch, thanks for letting me know
Lots of people I know have rage quit after getting nuked on the shore and not bothering to boat back again
Thankfully they're changing that horrid aspect in the deep north
Probably playing solo too, so there is that
is baking stuff in the oven the same as cooking meat on the cooking station? will the bread turn into coal after a while?
We’ll be able to use a catapult and feather cape to get to deep north
it will yeah, you need to watch the oven
never tried, but I'd expect it to
already doable with the ashlands
I played it in the beta client when it came out with one other friend, even as a duo we struggled to get that portal down. But alas, you do have it easier now with the combat mechanics being changed
What’s a good trinket to land on Ashland’s with
Best way to play!
Don't have to helplessly parry some random starred warrior until you eventually expire lol
I've forgotten, do enemies scale with MP?
Yes
Barely.
All enemies including bosses
Thanks for the updated info
You playing magic perhaps?
I was not magic focused, why?
Magic makes Ashlands a cakewalk.
ashlands magic or mistlands magic
Just curious. Mage in ashlands has one staff in particular which trivializes everything in the game
It's been a while, can I alter stats, respec per say?
Landing with Fireball staff and scaling into Ashlands stuff.
We don't have stats to respec as we don't have levels to earn 😉
fireball agaisnt fire enemies? wouldve thought theyd be immune..
It’s not possible to reallocate skill points
Shrek: WELL YOU THOUGHT WRONG
So gear based, inate stats
Not entirely immune but the fireball does blunt damage as well which is what damages them mostly
There is the elemental and blood magic skills but you can't exactly respec, just grab a staff and become a wizard
got it, thx
Not as much "can't" respec as "have no need to".
I mean you literally can’t tho
Understood, thx
Food is the most important stat in the game.
The new twig thing attacks you right
I guess you can farm blood magic using it if it does
We have training dummies now. 🤷♂️
If skeletons attack it then you can, I don’t know if they do.
My friend was my training dummy last time
It won’t break a bubble because it deals pure damage
Ahh I see
Ah yes, remember that...thank you
Oh, Kvastur has a trophy? I'll be damned - it picked a fight with an abomination and, sadly for old Kvastur, that was biting off a bit more than it could chew...
I killed that broom and got its trophy the first time I entered the hut lol
I don't want it to be hostile so I'm going out of my way to not hit it..
Imagine intentionally continuing to poke someone who has the power to ban you...
Speaking of the update, I'm calling polar bears in advance
just drop the joke already man
No shot they made and animated an entire bear just to use it as two entities
once its ready
21st century
We don’t need three bears
Valheim DN boss is just Volibear from LoL
Me too hehe heeee. Same with the bear :p
Hope not
We don't need reskins in general
i have a vague memory of smiffe saying something like “why would we give you the ability to afk grind blood magic?” during ptb
Isn’t that already the case with greydwarf spawners and the skeleton summoner
it is an exploit of the summoners you can do yeah, not their intended design
it's an exploit until they make it an intentional design choice
if the devs know about it and it's in the game it's an intentional design choice by definition lmao
Not really, it's more of an "aright do it that way if you want, we have more important things to do rn"-thing
yes that's how choices work
Not intentional - tolerated 😄
you could call it an unintended mechanic
I don't know who that is, assuming it's one of the developers but I'd like to ask "Why would I grind that skill in the first place?"
I'm fine with them if they all have something unique to them
At least be grateful it's not a straight up recolor lol
Your skeletons shooting things levels blood magic right?
what is a thing
Enemies?
They aren't going to target trees...
Because if yes, Bonemass again is the ultimate training dummy 😁
yes
Why not? I could use a hand with deforestation
:)
That's Trollstav.
I was hoping for a few woodcutters that come with me, not a nuke lol
That staff's pretty fun though, I enjoyed casting it in the middle of the fortresses in ashlands
trolls are very buff woodcutters, always have been
can't chop wood with swords anyway
There's actually a glitch you can do with that 🔮
Gotta love it, can't chop trees with swords but you can chop trees with other trees.
Submit directly to Smiffe to pass on to the person who fixes such things 😏
yea right
All glitches must be squashed!
along with all the 9x multi animation cancels 🥳
Took me 2 years to convince them seeker stagger bug was an actual bug and not just a weird interaction
the one where it faces you? 💀
the one where you'd still get hit despite staggering it
and mind you it only got fixed because I talked to a buddy that looked at the code and fixed it himself, and then sent the code to smiffe
yea i ain't reportin shit anymore
what to do in a rainy day?? 😄
they did actually patch the sword emote cancel this update
but not the other sword emote cancels
the emote cancels have an even deep rabbit hole
Like killing fader in 2 seconds rabbit hole
is it the really simple stabby spam one or does it go deeper than that lmao
Deeper 🔮
lmao you got any clips?
I tried all the basic ones and realized they did about 2x the dps of a max skill Staff of Wild and got mad lmao
LMAO jeez
yea the basic ones are still stupid dumb
pop a bzerker potion and go to town and you do like 1k dps
if not more 💀
yeah pretty much
hard to execute against small enemies though, the knife one is probably gonna be busted for normal play if we get a deep north knife
yea most effective against brutes / bosses
An ashlands knife would've been so cool 😔
Slap some jade on that shit and easy mode
it would apply faster than axes 😭 and with far less windup
Jade dual knives
i guess because it’s slow to level compared to other skills? idk you mentioned leveling it with twig im just answering your question.
Wait emote cancel? Is this like the block animation cancel or some other animation cancel I’m unaware of
Bruh what lmao I need a clip of what that looks like
I've done damage like that but it was chain lightning procing on the same enemy over and over
I hope this isn't achievable with regular weapons lmao
otherwise we're looking at a challenge run with wooden sword
Oh yeah that was just an assumption, I'm in the process of trying the new CTA update with a friend but we're limited on playtime so I haven't tried making the twig thing yet. I just assumed from the short clips I saw that it since it attacks it could break your blood bubble shield but I guess not
I'm not an avid detailed patch notes reader either but you were able to AFK farm the blood magic skill for a long time if you had another player with you, perhaps that got patched somewhere down the road
i think its more like the sleletons dont aggro on twig, not that they patched whatever the old afk friend farm was, that could still work. i never afk’d skills though so idk.
It was essentially just repeatedly having your friend break your shield as you recast it
I thought you could have the twig do the same for you instead of another person
eew that sounds like a major woft
All out of copper in my little forest patch. I feel like I should still mine all the tin before moving on, but also... don't need it?
Unless you need copper for lights, you will be able to get plenty of copper in the Mistlands.
Tin you can pick up as you sail around and explore, but you don't need bronze for anything big. So unless you will need more cooking stations...
what was patch today
Deep north
me when I lie
that's the thing, they don't
same creature, same animations. Only difference is appearance and stats, nothing else
My friend and I were playing on our server and were boating around and stumbled upon 2 Leviathans next to each other, close enough to walk across. How rare is this?
not super rare, i’ve seen them in a group of 3 too
Longest chain of Lev's I have seen is 4. Once. Seen 2 maybe a half dozen times.
Seen 2 at least twice in my current play through.
id mine whatever you can take with you in your boat just to save yourself a trip later, but waiting til you need it and have a boat with more storage is also a good idea
Not many of them though, which is good for now, anything can be improved upon on the way. Plus, some of the others apply unique status effects or have a special ability (thinking of blobs in this case)
Close enough to walk across though? Not sure if I have ever seen that. Swim to? Absolutely.
Might actually try to live in the black forest next. Deal with whatever happens 😄
No more of a challenge than having a home on the plains.
i love core wood as a primary building source, use it for walls and stairs and whatever!
I guess the thing that worries me a tiny bit is waking up to a troll club/log cleaving through my house 😄
If you have beaten the Elder, use that as the foundation of your home.
The pillars, etc... make for some cool features.
You don't put up a defensive wall of some kind?
anything can be improved upon on the way
can? yes
will it happen? lol
nah man ya need to prep for walls & moat and everything else
valheim time
I havent played this game in like half a year whats happened
Also is rocky still a thing
rocky still elusive
You probably should just read the news. A lot has happened, and the list is long.
Main thing is the combat fixes and the addition of trinkets.
Yeah, bears and vile is kind of a big thing.
and more building stuff, still no proper Iron Gate
Deep north is still being worked on?
Yeah, thats next year. Maybe.
Sick
We don't know that for sure tho, they haven't announced it yet.
I said maybe...
When it's ready
I guess Im gonna see what these bears are about
Also whatever call to arms and adrenaline means
ain`t the honey lovin' kind of bear
The plains instill primal fear
They always will
I only go to the plains when I need to
The most peaceful of biomes?
one of my fav places to raid
Plains is my favorite biome, so I pretty much live there. 😄

dark forest island
plains meadow forest trio merge near water
The swamp is my least favorite cuz its just straight up poo land
But the plains
They scare me
Someone is afraid of peace.
Heh, I genuinely hate the Ashlands, so will disagree with you there.
Ashlands is pure ugly.
We must go to very different plains
its late game so the game gets testing
The yellow one with large spans of open nothing?
I'm not even taking the monsters into consideration when I say Ashlands is pure ugly.
Its just ugly, and I hate being there even before I get attacked.
I think the swamp is still uglier but it comes down to whether you prefer fire and ash to rain and poo
Time will tell, valheim's still a pretty young game
At least with swamps I can lighten it up by cutting down all the trees. There is no improving the Ashlands.
Fair enough
Against what I'm comparing it to for the studio that makes it lol
The ashlands is quite the eyesore
That's enough for several bird, water worm and skeleton attacks
i'm not agreeing with most of the biome takes happening here
I'm probably in the minority that hates the mountain biome more than any other one
i think they all do what they are very well
It looks better when it is behind you 😉
swamp is a pretty damn good swamp, what else is it supposed to be? it's flat, wet, and dark. idk should they have made a sunshine swamp with glowing dr seuss plants making everything brightly lit? or i dont understand
I was not kidding by lightening it up by cutting down all the trees. It gets substantially lighter.
Obviously, you cannot cut down ALL of the trees, but you can cut down most.
more like a nasty bog
Would be interesting to do considerable landscaping and essentially make it dryer 🤔
it rains 24/7
You cannot get rid of the wet debuff, but you can raise most of the land with the hoe. Without adding rock.
dryer? it's a swamp
its damp and dark. Lights stand out more though. Still wet
Only way to get dry is to build covered walk ways.
Up in the trees. Makes a pretty cool location, actually.
Some of my favorite builds are the people who use Bonemass' altar as their centerpiece.
Looks metal af.
sometimes you can find a little meadow or forest patch middle of the swamp, at times very high elevation
Just takes a lot of effort to connect it between the unbreakable ancient trees, but its often doable.
There at least used to be a couple of really cool swamp builds with walk ways throughout on U tube.
I only did it once, as a Holloween build.
young game
it's been... four years...
with issues and questionable design decisions that have been there since day 1
I have yet to see a game without questionable design decisions since day 1. Are there any?
minecraft
Minecraft is cool and all, but...
hehe, is there any game thats been updated better in the history of games being updated?
Not really concerned with the questionable design decisions as every game ever has them. Just the dev team's communication, but seeing as how valheim isn't an MMO I care even less about their design decisions.
don't understand why the game not being a MMO is relevant
Only reason I even started playing Valheim is because it was such a limited MMO. I avoid open MMO's by default.
Anything to be honest, minecraft fell off for me the moment they decided to objectively make an axe better than a sword for combat
Because game design decisions are far more relevant in an MMO
??? only for breaking shields, you use the axe to break the shield then switch back to sword
that's... so extremely untrue...
i won't even take that statement seriously
Adding unlimited people is a huge mistake to begin with.
People suck.
Don't assume just because I mention an MMO that I mean a survival game
valheim is an mmo?
Don't they legit have a higher damage output?
they have higher damage slower attack speed
That walking pig in the nether with an axe that everyone's afraid of seems to prove it lol
I'm talking all of them. I used to play MMO's. Like Warcraft. People suck. The fewer, the better.
regardless...
questionable design decisions are relevant in any game, "they're more in MMOs" doesn't make sense"
To each their own, warcraft's not exactly a good example of a dev team either though
They fell off very fast because of their design decision
Not saying they are, I'm just saying people suck. So the fewer I have to deal with the better. When I get to choose who all of them are, best of all.
and doesn't change anything of what i've said: That valheim has them since day 1 with 0 indication they will change.
things that are common mechanics as well. Such as stake walls being very much completely useless
if they haven't changed things that have been there for over four years then idk why would anyone hope for drastic changes
You have a workaround using mods for games like valheim, which aren't innately MMOs, just have an option to be played with multiplayer
they are allergic to just changing numbers, anything more comlpex than that and they seem to think the company will explode
I am curious about what these "things" are though
Not too in touch with the playerbase/community or what's mostly been asked for
you shouldn't need mods for that even if they do manage to fix those mechanics...
Is stake walls really something many people have complained about?
raids being pathetically disappointing
said raids also being made useless when passive mode is enabled when it should not be the case bc there's literally a different toggle to disable raids
irrelevant.
they are worthless, regardless of 15M people having complained about them or not. Not an opinion, that IS how they are
why would a stake wall meant for defense and ALSO being pretty much a consumable NOT return all resources after being destroyed? especially when they are extremely easy to destroy as they are damaged by touching them
the one good thing about stake walls is converting copper to dead rabbits in the mists XD
Huh? Aren't stake walls the upright ones that don't deal damage?
yes
hehe thats why i said converting
spike walls.
i forgot the name. It's the diagonal ones
Ahh okay I see now
I was confused because the stake walls are very much just a cosmetic build piece lol
but yeah they need like 10x durability at least
Or just have them return their resources upon destruction 🤔
Now that that's clear, I do agree, alongside the raids problem, and as much as I'd rather see both of the things removed from the game due to not even thinking about using them, they are relevant to eachother, perhaps we get some kind of raids/base defense type update similar to the call to arms one which polished up combat
Here I am only bothered by things like, "I can take nails through portals, but not metal bars? WTF??"
They made using the dodge relevant and changed parrying into a reliable combat mechanic instead of helplessly getting beaten out of my health and stamina through a shield so I'd say there's hope
You hide the nails in your pockets so the portal doesn't see them :)
That bugs me so much because I love restoring the keeps. So to make getting the stonecutter to such places such a pain...
@neon magnet your base is so cute! am i crazy thinking you're new? that's an impressive non-box shaped little thing for a new player
not everyoone is with you on removing stamina management from combat
Well you do have the option to make it so you can take bars through the portals so, is the option to not be able to take nails through the portal something you want?
Oh I know, I gave my piece on it is all. Last time I talked in this server inventory expanding was the topic and I've since learned it's another topic that tears the playerbase into two sides
I'm talking default. I've been playing this game since well before we could even change the default settings.
4 years, is it?
Does it really matter that much though? Toggleable at any time setting is there, for everyone's needs
real quick I know there's no official date and no one knows for sure but when might deep north be a thing
considering the call to arms just dropped probably gonna be more than a few months I'd assume
Maybe next year, Not this year, pretty much a definitive statement.
Next year is even questionable.
ahh yeah december would've been nice thematically but yeah def not this year for sure
Break between mistlands and ashlands was a little over 2 years so, another year or 3/4 of a year if we follow that expectation
I'm pretty confident it will be next year, but IG isn't really allowed to say until they KNOW when they can release it, so... we will stick with maybe next year.
They could always aim for the end of 2026 to make it fit "thematically"
Going by past time frames, as already mentioned, that is the most likely part of the year. So...
Lowk I think we’ll get it end of this year
it is with great pleasure that I announce that I have killed the Queen
on my way to the Ashlands now

Mage or Melee?
melee
Do you have Demolisher?
yes
Enjoy 😈
No like, you will be a god among skeletal insects with Demolisher.
The only thing you need to watch for is the gymbro Necks.
what are the prep works im gonna need before i set sail
Food.
do i need fire res mead
Nope.
HHS food for first landing recommended.
Demolisher for when you need space.
Mistwalker for killing things.
Carapace Buckler.
You will want a bow for killing Bonemaws and (if you happen to run into one early) Valks.
Don't waste arrows on Volturs, they fly low enough for melee.
im still using the fully upgraded Draugr Fang will that be enough
Priority 1 is finding and looting enough caves to make a Stone Portal.
As long as you got Frost Arrows.
it's good enough but spinesnap is cheap and really effective in ashlands
Facts.
Does the Spinesnap glow work the way Mistwalker's does or no?
don't think so
😭
Like Mistwalker is a miniwisp, yeah.
yea nah
And how if they switch the axe secondary to being a throw it becomes better because the poison will tick while you're closing the distance?
poison is still a trash dmg type
Either that or just rework dots like I put in suggestions 😭
- Fire - unchanged.
- Spirit - DoT is just one layer but repeated hits (5?) stack to a burst of damage (same exact DPS profile, just different interaction to separate from Fire)
- Poison - DoT remains the same, but doing poison damage to an already poisoned target via arrows or weapon deals additional flat poison damage per swing.
do raids still work the same as they used to? like if I'm in a server and I kill a higher tier boss and turn in that trophy then the next level of raids will attack our village?
Yes
Some server settings might change it a bit, like personal events (only raids unlocked by your character are triggered by you for example) or higher/lower frequency of raids.
Hello there!
I recently lost a gaming buddy due to modern day activities (work time and other types of obligations). We played for 2 weeks i would say so I'm looking for someone or even a company of people who would like to play it. I find this game great but i just don't have motivation to play it alone.
Look no further than #1024264966712340510
Thanks guys!
Considering it takes wisps to make... good?
Oh I'm 100% in favor of Mistwalker glow doing what it does.
Was just asking if Spinesnap glow works similarly.
I don't know. I just make Demolisher first since its such a huge improvement over the iron, unlike the others, only being single point improvements. Like Spinesnap is only a 1 point improvement over Fang, initially.
IE lvl 4 Fang vs lvl 1 Spinesnap.
I never make the Fang though, too fond of the sneaky Huntsman bow when handling fuling villages
And being able to single pull lox to not deal with all three is precious too
I just walk into villages and start killing now a days. I only snipe shamans.
I enjoy fighting multiple lox's too. Its fun.
If it was only lox, but you can bet while in the thick of it their buzzy friends show up in numbers
I prefer to maintain a bit more control haha
Spinesnap LOOKS cool though.
And as Scales pointed out, it is cheap.
True, but that adds to the challenge. Once upon a time, how I fight now would have terrified me, and I would have called me crazy.
I snipe shamans and people in towers so they aren't throwing at me while I'm fighting on the ground.
They miss so often I don't worry about the tower fulings, unless they happen to be 2 starred, and I have not seen a 2 star spear chucker in forever.
I keep sniping any fuling I see until I can't hear anymore shamans, then I can go in swinging
Unless I see a two-star of course, I don't want those types up close if I can help it
My wifes savage aggression works shockingly well against the 2 stars. One of the situations in which I have adopted it.
Hit them first, keep hitting them, they die, they never hit you.
I will never forget my first encounter with fulings. It was on my very first world, and I had just reached my very first swamp and was carefully staking it out, walking along the edges. Then when it got dark I saw fires in the distance, moved closer, heard strange giggling, one little green fellow came at me but I killed him (was in bronze gear), got cocky and shot another. He was bigger, different coloured, and then I had a corpse run... Turned out it was a minimal patch of plains at the edge of that swamp, and it happened to be host to a village. Waay closer to spawn than I thought possible, but that world was created on release so maybe it has some odd things.
Not so far, no. Been building in the meadows only tbh and sleeping most nights. Also haven't killed elder yet so not getting any nasty raids
Flashbacks to Daredevil episode about Fisk as a child "KEEP HITTING THEM"
It works, tho.
True.
Depends. I've never gotten far but have spent a fair bit of time in the early game. I wouldn't claim to be new - plenty of similar houses built!
Yeah, fulings, and the plains in general, used to scare me. But I have learned a lot since I first started playing.
Now I don't even get scared, not even in the Ashlands. I just figure out what keeps me alive, and stay alive.
Imo plains at night has become a lot more scary after last update. It's not just the vile - which is scary but unless low on foods not that dangerous - but it seems those fuling gangs are spawning like greydwarves in the forest now, feels like Ashlands at times.
Try starting off a new save, moving through a tiny speck of black forest during the night thinking it's perfectly safe, then you see a bear's face next to the tree you're running past for the first time
I agree they seem to spawn a lot more often. I am happy with that, though, until I get all my BM chests made. 😄
Wiki's "very rare" bear spawn frequency made me distrust that entire site
I am swimming in black metal, I can't keep up smelting them haha
I have seen 9 bears and 1 troll.
So all the "troll armor is cheaper" people can suck it 😛
I am in a new play through. I've done many new play throughs in my 5,800+ hours. Just got into Mistlands again this past week.
I suppose bears and trolls are sharing spawn "slots" in the forest now, so there will be less trolls than before
No, seeing tolls about as often as ever. You see bears a lot too, if you run through the BF's like I do. Still only have maybe 12 trophies, though. Tons of skins, meat and paws, though.
Having many bears spawn early on is better anyways. Problem is they've got 99% camo rate during the night, I'll never spot one unless I see its health bar by accident first
im basically the same except i sprint in and stab the shamans in their stupid face. and if i see the casting the shield i chuck it and stagger them. shamans are buttholes.
Don't feel like going on max brightness either as it just ruins the immersion
If they are on my side of the village, same, but they are often on the far side. Not fighting my way to them that fast.
Yeah at night they have ambushed me several times. One moment you are jogging along, then suddenly somethig big hits you out of the dark
They often surprise me during the day too. I think the game cheats and spawns them after I pass their spot.
It does it with Lox, so why not bears?
I am never awake at night until Swamp 😄
I usually circle around at least once with the bow to snipe every shammy I can see. Also the big ones if I can get them without waking up the entire village.
ive sailed past a troll standing almost against a bear, i dont think they block each other’s spawn
Also I found bears, while they have a metric assload of hp, are incredibly easy to fight if you just keep equipping and unequipping your torch 😄
One of the reasons I like swords in the plains, is I can hit a beserker and several fulings at the same time.
or battleaxe!
Nah, I mean mob total in the active area. I believe any active forest bubble can have X greydwarves and Y big mobs. Big mobs previously being just trolls, but now trolls and bears
Equip your torch and suddenly the bear turns into a monkey trying to catch a banana
Half dozen or more with that!
Yes but runs out of hit range, so if you keep toggling it they won't hit you but will stay close enough to be hit 😄
Come to think of it, I have still not seen viles and lox at the same time, anyone seen that?
Speaking of battleaxe, has anyone tried using the new black metal battleaxe in the mistlands and/or skull splittur in the ashlands? If so, how do they perform?
In sight at the same time? Yeah, just about every time.
Trying to use axes/battleaxes in my current playthrough for a different experience
Probably just that small bit of plains where I built my home then. It's either a flock of lox or a vile, never both
Haven't experienced that personally, for me they'll just try to hit me, then turn to the right or left the last second and miss, rotate and repeat the cycle
Yeah if I keep mine out they straight run off.
You got some cowardly bears
They have only been what I would call close together only once. There is usually decent room between them.
I guess even IG doesn't want us fighting 3 lox, a vile and random squittoes and fulings at the same time. Shocking.
Maybe because night fulings are so often starred?
IG doesn't want us fighting <insert any number or combination of enemies>???
SOURCE?
Yeah, like I said, shocking.
Now a days I am like, the more the better. Not so long ago, RUN!
Atgeir Secondary + Berserkir Mead = EZ Mode
I don't like the atgeir. It feels/looks so clunky to me.
Even its spin just looks stupid to me.
I use the atgeir as my panic button. If I get into more trouble than I can handle I swap to that and abuse the crap out of the secondary
TWIG has been helping me dislike it less.
The Walking Iron Gate?
Whatever TWIG stands for.
Who needs a panic button when you have a Panic Hammer 😉
Me smash?
Yeah, the knock back on the hammers usually buys you tons of time and space.
Not against things like beserkers, etc....
I wish Frostner was two-handed because then the knockback would make sense to me. 😭
The frostner knockback just annoys me, always makes me miss with the combo. The two-handed club is just a gimmick, not a weapon to use in fights.
I love porcupine, but the Frostnr knock back is a bit ludicrous.
I'd love if the sledges were given a regular combo with primary attack, and that ME SMASH could be the secondary
I'd love if one-handed maces all had the wooden club knockback but keep the massive punt on the secondary.
So you can fight when you want to fight and make space when you want to make space.
I use the sledge when I want space.
You can switch so fast its almost like using the same weapon anyways.
Atgeir does the same, but with a tad more control since you decide where to move while they stand flailing their arms around
Does Porcupine have the knockback? It usually kills them on the first hit, so I don't recall...
Porcy kills Lox so fast, it still is shocking to me.
Barely ever used it, I tend to go for swords anyway and keep Frostner for mobs that require its special properties
Yeah, like I said, plains is when I start using swords. It hits multiples at the same time, and seems faster.
Skill levelling seems faster now. I have never had sword in the 60's by the time I go into the Mistlands before.
In theory axe's first attack is quicker than swords, but I think sword's swing hits mid-animation, while axe doesn't actually hit until at the end of its animation. Axe is awfully awkward to fight with due to that.
Nothing feels as awkward to me as the big hammers and battleaxes. So now that I am used to using those...
Hence my firm opinion that axes are mainly for chopping wood, and the occasional creature that interrupts you while you are chopping wood
Swords work just as well 😄
Gods, I remember when abominations were the scariest things I knew in the game
First one I met yeeted me into deep water where the leeches got me. Took me a week to get my stuff back, and skills were below 10 by the time I succeeded
I still give golems a lot of respect, but as long as you don't mess up your shield work, nothing is much of a threat.
Like this last time I fought Yag, I just stood there and fought him, That 2 minutes and 24 seconds included his spawning time. Thats just how long my fire mead was in effect when I beat him.
So I have learned a lot, and changed a lot, from 4 years ago.
More like 10.0 but I get what you mean...
Nah, they just swam from starting island to Ashlands and that kind of workout builds you. 😏
Asksvin is neck with 100 swim skill.
Necks being immune to lava would be a fun easter egg but no
They’re actually weak to it
Ah, well, too fun to be true eh..
Gods, looking for tar pits but only finding small plains without a single one
Ugh, let us craft actual tar pits - a simple dug hole where you burn sap-heavy firewood to harvest tar. Something that unlocks after killing Yag?
No. 😛
Please, dangit!

Whatever happened to the wiki channel here? Anyway, it says angled corewood takes rain damage, and they do not.
the other thing axes are good for is leveling your axe skill for when you get a battleaxd
Even if not partially covered by a roof?
Battleaxes are just overgrown axes - best used for chopping wood... 😉
holy moly abyssal knife feels fast when you have only used stagbreaker and bronze axe for 40 days!
Indeed it checks out, just tested it 😄
And the wiki channel is still there, but as always only visible if you have the chronicler role 🙂
All angled beams are roof
Gods, let me mount ballistae on the Drakkar and raid fuling villages from the sea
Should be fixed now 🙂
It used to be visible to me, then went away
Thanks
(Btw, with fire hazards on, raiding villages with fire arrows is a very viking thing!
Thought they were only immune when being placed along a roof piece. Do they shield pieces below too if "they are roof"?
Yes
Oh what the heck is going on here, sailing by a fuling village and there's a vile on the rampage, didn't think they were hostile to anything in the plains?
Might be that you picked it when i was availible to anyone? It didnt turn out well so it was removed from people who were not active there.
Ah gotcha, yes it went away quite some time ago for me
Must have been nightspawned skellies
It was nice to have the wiki channel because the people active there were the ones that really knew how the game worked
i’m sorry for you that you don’t love battleaxes 🥲
I just don't like axes, period. I like swords though, so the game still has me covered. Now with the last update I hear the two-handers are finally okay!
Yeah, but it was used like "ask stuff about game" channel rather than for people communicating about actual wiki stuff 🙂
Fecksake what is this, Fuling California? There's villages all along the coastline...
That would make me happy. The more villages to plunder, the better.
yeah, the multi target penalty removed is great, they still are finicky like 1 hand sword, not true cleave everything always
I don't want anything from them right now, all I need is tar so they just slow me down..
Yeah, I don't NEED anything from them either. Its just that they are fulings, and need to die... plus they are fun to fight.
Fair, maybe they should put in a game mechanics channel that's a little more technical than 'valheim chat'
True, but when I can't bring along the loot it makes me anxious, better leave them for later 😄
Thats usually what #valheim-help is for 😄
Yeah, leaving chest after chest of black metal behind can be a bit irritating. Then when you finally get it to base, you spend what feels like forever smelting it.
Bloody hell does this night never end? "Nights last 9 minutes." PFFFFT!
You having the heavy plains fog too?
No fog right now, but sailing along a plains coast and there's villages, viles and shit running around all over the place. Waiting for day to make landfall and look for tar...
Day or night, I just look for one of those big rocks to land at. Can't see those with that pea soup fog, though.
There is usually, not always, very little to fight around those rocks.
Strangely, this world seems to have very few of those rocks. I've only seen a handful so far, most plains don't have them at all.
Huh. I wouldn't call them frequent. Definitely not like BF or Meadows, but I usually find one often enough.
Oh finally a fudging tar pit
this seed i spend most of my time dodging black sludge balls they're everywhere, they're every 10 feet from my base
ah thanks for reminding me, thats another to-do list thing is fnish my tar roof
#screenshots message @compact gate improved it once more
I have to admit I don't mind repeats of the event that gives me more Brenna trophies. I like that one better than Surtlings.
I do wish they would stop making us have to hang around for animal reproduction. I can only make so much food, farm so much crop, and smelt only so much ore.
Does anyone know how may possible seeds there are for maps?
Its not infinite, but for all intents and purposes? Close enough?
Just as many as there are combinations of 10 uppercase letters, lowercase letters and numbers 🙂
Into the millions. I'm not doing that math.
So 62^10?
No idea 😄 i am in the same boat as Robert, not doing that math.
There are more possible seeds, this is just what can be randomly generated on the new world menu.
@fathom gulch
True, you can go less than 10 characters seed 😄
If anyone has 2 star asksvins eggs and are willing to part with 1 please DM me!!!
Are other characters allowed too? I can’t check right now.
Dont think so 🤔 will check tho
Nope, only the classic letters and numbers
So I believe that would be 62^10 + 62^9 + 62^8 + 62^7 + 62^6 + 62^5 + 62^4 + 62^3 + 62^2 + 62
There is probably a more elegant way of expressing that though lol
Ye it'd just be a summation with n
Probably, and quite likely using some letters, things that, if you ask me at least, have no business being part of THE number science
'A lot' is good enough
I downloaded Valheim for the first time on a non-cool-downloading-game-program, I got In love with It and I bought the game on Steam and I couldn't be happier.
Happy to hear it ✊
Given I just got an entire wood chest of copper from one node... they either changed the % or it was one of those secret node-inside-a-node nodes.
prolly node inside a node
I was 6 slots of copper vs. 14 slots of stone in total.
Is there a place in this discord to find people to play with
Yep #1024264966712340510 😄
yea sounds like 2 copper nodes
STILL ONLY SEEN THE ONE TROLL BTW
is this the vh vegan run
Bronze armor better 😏
Think i'm planning a bronze only playthru
Bear armor great
Everyone talking about low drop rates.
First bear I encounter is a one-star and it drops trophy 😄
that's really funny. do a "worst" playthrough, everything people say is the worst armor, weapon, food, etc
10% is 10% 😏
10% is 100% for me 😏
📈
oh i meant a bronze tier only playthru
But that would also be funny
i gotta think of more "bad" things. battleaxes probably XD what else...
tower shield
Jotun Bane.
oh god tower shield jotun bane
i got it. tower shield and 1 hand axe haha
yes hahaha jotun bane my god... that stupid stupid axe
Tower shield and knife just looks funny tbh.
but it's a little good tho is the problem, 1 hand axe nobody's gonna ever complain again when he's there beating ashlands mobs with tower and 1 hand axe XD
W00t! Pointy hats are craftable again! 🧙♂️
You can feel like a roman legionare 😄
and the jack o turnips or w/e they're called?
The Jack o' Turnips too, btw
huge
theres been another update to the steam version today, but no patch notes, and i didnt get any descriptor from steam saying whether it was a content update or shader precaching. anyone know? or was it just my game validating randomly
Steam doing Steam things mostly, no new patch.
Otherwise it would have been announced in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202170015671914506
i did check there first, but there have been changes to the games files that werent noted at all
Stuff that changed 🙂 https://steamdb.info/patchnotes/20219838/

ok so why is my roof cross breaking on impact
check stability
If the thing you're trying to attach the roof to is bright red it means you're out of stability.
how do i fix that
Going out on a limb here and guessing you're trying to make a large structure purely out of wood?
Use core wood, iron, or stone to increase stability values
Core wood is barely better, so that is not my recommendation if my assumption is correct.
im follwing a tutorial
and in the tutorial it works
but it isnt on my house
- Don't do that.
- Build normal, single-floor things until you hit swamp.
Iron gives you access to stone building and iron wood which expand your building capabilities to their limits.
do u want link
why the house looks cool
and i have stone buildings already i beat moder
Any other streamers suddenly having issues with Valheim lagging out stream? and JUST valheim?
If I have even the main menu up the stream gets so choppy it's like a slideshow. Even just sitting in main menu. But no other games is it doing this.
Verfied steam files, restarted the game and my computer
I’ve never had issues building 2 story structures before iron tier 🤔
Deep north is here how powerful is stuff?
Deep north isn’t released yet 🤔
Oh I just saw that there’s a bunch of ice
Ima just lie to my friend then so he is still interested in the game after ashlands
Just ice, snow, and salmon currently
Ok
Extrapolate from the other biomes. The damage ramps up linearly
what
@gray sand do i use corewood instead of normal wood
but i think corewood looks different from normal wood
why does this game need to be so realistic 😭
Nvm
Looking for 2 star asksvin eggs anyone have?

im on xbox. Can I still use those?
well wolves sure are useless
spent 30 minutes taming it and it was two shot by a troll on the way home
Is there any crafting bench I should bring to the mistlands?
?
Workbench for your pocket portal.
Stonecutter if you want to demolish the Dvergr buildings.
My boat got stuck in a low hanging area in mist lands and destroyed by a seeker soldier and the materials sank
I logged out, turned on "materials have no cost" and just made myself a new one. Lmao. Nope.
540 hours in this game and I still make the dumbest decisions you could possibly make
I'm trying to figure out what ingredient I'm missing from the iron sledge recipe, it's not showing up in my recipes yet
Draugr Elite trophy?
Ymir Flesh?
The trophy, thank you
👍
#screenshots message another day, another update on my build : D
Considering buying the game wheres the best place to find people to play with ? or whats the best way to?
bring a stack of black metal or two, you will need it to craft certain items there
It took us 6 mines, but we finally have enough power cores to have both tables and the processor built, plus a couple of extra to start with to work towards having extra forges we can build for repairing dvergr towers. Plus we have the Queen location and 5 of the pieces for opening her prison.
We also now have two operating extractors. With 5 more in our sights.
Poor Dvergr...
if he just gotten to the Mistlands then he cannot portal in metals
Yeah, I read that as black marble. I'm tired and obviously need to go to bed.
lmao all good my g
is 3x multiplier in solo cheating?
No.
does it matter?
im not sure haha
are you asking for permission on how to play your game?
im not sure haha i dont know lack of integrity i think idk it feels wrong but it's so tiring gathering resources
Nothing wrong with that mate
then do whatever you want
I wish I could choose what kind of skeleton I summon with the Dead Raiser, that would be tight
On a sad note i finally got a 2 star wolf spawn but had to kill it due to a golem and 3 drakes at same time as a 1 star and 2 reg wolves . 800 hrs in this game and only ever seen 3 2 star spawns
I haven't seen a single one, and I've got 1400 hours. That really sucks man, I'm sorry
guess i gotta do it the hard way and use the breeder mod and hope for upgrades
thats the easy way :p
Started a new Valheim world on hardest, because my life is dope, and I do dope shit. Picking up sticks and stones because chains and whips unlock later. So far so good, chopping some trees, hunting some boars, greylings prancing around like cats with a paper bag on their head, I'm a happy little viking. Find an abandoned shack, accidentally but heroically open the door by axing it off the hinges, accidentally but heroically hit a beehive. Bees start flying round me like MiG-28s and I get cooked like Goose. Reach the coast, spot a 2-star neck, only seen one in ~1000 hours, feelsgoodman.jpg. Build a swish little beach house, sun sets, time for an Odin nap. "Computer says no", enemies nearby. Pop my head out the window like a bored Latin mother in-law to have a nosey, it's a 2-star greydwarf and a 2-star shaman Usain Bolting it straight at me. They gettin' rude to fam, try and merc them with a stone axe and torch. They start Morris dancing around me, lobbing stones at my head with the power of a Schwerer Gustav nearly making me do an impression of Team Rocket blasting off again. Nah mate I ain't playing this budget Squid Game version of tag, decide to try and lose them in the trees and jump into bed to despawn them. Good Morning Vietheeeim! Wake up to both of them looming over me like discount Terminators asking if I'm Sarah Connor. I say "nah", they don't care, I die. Respawn in the same bed, they're still there, I'm still not Sarah Connor, die again. Never in 1000 hours been spawn camped by a greydwarf. I really can't wait to start 1.0 fresh with friends on hardest, this is gonna be good.
Great read
Next time I'm going "hmm, something feels a bit off... I might just restart" - remind me of how using a bow at low skill level feels :>

what are the items i should bring to the Ashlands for the first landing? this is my first time ever progressing this far
Materials for portal and shield generator, few of best foods you have, HP/stamina/eitr (if you use)/Ratatosk meads, best gear and weapons (both mage and melee work). Some effective options for weapons:
Mistwalker, Krom, Demolisher, Himminafl, Spinesnap, Ember staff, Silver sword and Frostner.

Question: did material cost get bumped? One of the swords asked for 200 bars of one type and 50 of another to craft lv1.
What sword is that? o_O
what?
Silver
Wow. I guess I didn't pay attention when I crafted mine before cause that sounds expensive
The Black Iron Axe (or whatever it’s called) now requires 50 bars for lv1. Wasn’t it like 80 to get to lv4?
Are you holding shift?
black iron axe 🤔
Black metal probably
That’s it!
What does shift do?
I don’t believe I was. I’ll log back on and check.
It left you craft five items in one go.
wow that was just poetic man. have you heard of the gamer and youtuber “Rav”? reminded me of his scripts.

Looks like you got your blue skin on again.
@pliant hatch already reported. 👍
Rule 13 kek
imean posting rules and regulations IS kind of a staff tag speaking to you, so.
I was actually hoping I could avoid that action by placing a normal request.
But thanks for doing so nevertheless, as I was about to do the same right now.
- Do not backseat moderate. If you see someone breaking a rule, reach out to <@&816973484756172815> to contact a moderator.
🤡
seems like this rule is unenforced so you're good to go!
You mean we should wait and watch a political discussion evolve until one of the staff members is able to see the message (or the mod-mail) and react at it?
Resulting in countless posts being removed and a part of the community being upset?
Or would it be better if a "common" user places a request to avoid certain things, show the rule where it's actually mentioned and stop a wildfire when it's still a spark?
Sometimes one is the best, sometimes the other one is.
Just keep in mind that even the staff members need to eat, sleep, pee or have to leave their computer to do other stuff. Meaning they can't moderate here 24/7.
no i mean to their “yOuR sTaFf TaG iS mIsSiNg” comment i’m saying that IS the staff speaking through the rules of theirs you reposted, so your hierarchy status isn’t relevant
insane mental gymnastics LOL
or did you mean to reply to miker not me?
yall should talk about valheim more in #valheim-chat
I may have misunderstood what you meant then.
yeah i think so, no worries
sometimes yes
but xblitznotsz was a troll account
so logic doesn't work on them
Do mushrooms have a place they spawn to over and over or is it random?
Places.
So if you find a good batch, mark it on the map.
Thanks! Yeah, I found 5x in two places kind of near from each other and marked them

Any combination of food made with mistlands ingredients will work well

I like the new update, I can finally perry without losing stamina
I personally hate that part of the new update.
y also you pfp always reminds me of the silent hill 3 girl
cuz I use a tv not a monitor so discord pfp are very tiny
Parrying everything is too viable now
viable?
There’s less reason to fight in other ways
they also added dodging so as long as you roll towards the hit in the right moment no damage is taken
Parry used to be free.
It was broken as fuck because there was no reason to not parry everything always.
So they made it cost stamina. Great change. Balanced.
Suddenly the revert like they don't know exactly how that is going to play out...
o yuh I noticed
the thing is you perry? good job :D now you have 0 stamina to strike back
Scale issue.
Only if you already had low stamina
Manage stamina better.
a good idea to balance it is, more heavy armor ---> parry cost more stamina
or is it just a bad idea
I'm physically vomiting at that idea.
idk brute graydwarf strikes too fast
be nice I like sharing my first thoughts
Not if you parry them and they are staggered?
the thing is while I wait for the stamina to regenerate they're . unstaggered
Parry - hit - hit - parry - let stamina recover - parry - hit - hit
Repeat until dead
that reminds me of why I pick knife as a weapon in the early run
oo strategic
dodging is also free now 🤷
the biggest loser of fighting styles is backing just out of reach of the enemy attack hitbox, ie. aura farming
dodging still takes stamina
Strategic is what is being slowly removed from the game with these stamina updates...
but I just think if its a successful dodge you will get back your stamina im not sure I thought i was imagining things while I was playing
yeah, if you would've taken damage then you get your stamina back
they'll figure it out, valheim is still developing
It's changed paths. This is the new direction 🤷♂️😭
tbh if they make boats travel faster i'll be happy
tbh parrying/blocking should cost less stamina if you're in heavy armor simply because you've got more mass
you pay that stamina back when you try to move around haha
shouldn't it cost more since you're too heavy to move? im not sure about physics
if you're holding a bowling ball and someone bounces a basketball off it
you are not very shaken
if you're holding a balloon and someone bounces a basketball off that
It’d be great if you could choose when to release the trinkets power once ur adrenaline has built up
Or even save a charge for a future battle but not sure if that would be too op
Like the crystal heart trinket is most useful if activated first thing in the battle not halfway through or towards the end
while trinkets that give instant stamina or hp are more useful for the latter half
hmm
I think managing the adrenaline bar to pop when you want is a cool skill expression
but maybe not fun if you're already struggling to get any adrenaline at all
my main wish is for trinket powers to be weaker but pop earlier in the fight, so they are relevant in more situations besides huge long fights
I agree, and I will also mention it would be nice if the floating damage numbers turned the adrenaline orange when being influenced by it, just to make how much you're utilizing it more clear. The same could be said for regen, though I can't be sure how I would go about that off hand.
giant orange glow around your screen when trinket is active to show adrenaline rush
-# please do not actually do this
yeah defo
@shy marlin you what now #screenshots message
💀
bro just almost 1 tapped the final boss
game has no bugs and no weird interactions
And no stamina 😉
Sometimes you drink a lil red silly potion and bosses just fall over what can i say
Nonsense, deathsquitoes are bugs
I made a mosque on my server, anyone wanna check it out?
Why does a troll immediately sprint towards my base when it kills me? I was away mining copper when it attacked me
If you had asked nicely he'd have helped you mining copper, but you didn't so he felt insulted
Thats one thing I have to be careful about. I typically build my base pretty close to my initial copper deposits. So if I get killed, things like a troll, and now probably the bears, will "follow" their aggro on me into my base.
My base right now is just big core wood walls in a square 😄
They hold up well enough to trolls, most of the time. I use them until I can make raised earth walls.
I usually have enough stone for how large I make my home base by the time I've dug up two copper nodes.
To be clear, I now know just how big my base will end up being, so make the wall accordingly.
How do I join Jotunheim, It's teling me I have the wrong verson.
Yeah. I have core wood walls and stakewalls inserted inside of them
Trolls? Where?
With today's hours I have seen a total of 3 (and in that time I have crafted fully upgraded bronze armor) -- 1 of which I had to go inside a cave to get 😭
all enemies target structures when aggroed
How did it know where my base is though?
depending on distance they will go to them
AI has never been reliable in the first place
1300 hours and have not seen a starred gjall. guess i gotta spend more time in mistlands
i think they're only night time spawns
Try the night
yea, gotta go actively hunting for them
I had one find me a couple months ago
Mistlands at night is just a bad idea in general
24 nights for 2 star wolf and 30 nights for 2 star askvin last time i went hunting for something
and those are more abundant than gjall
Yeah, gjalls with starts are hard to find and not to mention, hit like absolute trucks
true, shold be ok tho
2 star askvins do like 300 dmg with their pounce i think and 120 with their normal bite
that was scary
yea 150 bite, 240 headbutt, 300 pounce
Their bite would be 150 blunt + 150 slash, 300 total damage
Yo, first time playthrough using light armor. Is troll armor viable in swamps?
Or bear set until Fenris.
-# At least how I played last playthrough.
root armor should make you vulnerable to pierce actually, there would be small gaps in between the weave of wood
Well, would still protect you more than just leather or paint 😄
root or bear for mountains?
I see the vision tbh LOL
the root armor looks kinda like it's got big openings
don't wear root to frost caves unless you have access to barley wine
I would probably make each root piece modify resists as such:
pierce -5%, slash --, bludg +5%, fire -10%, frost --, poison +10%, spirit +5%, lightning -5%
That’s too many numbers on the item description
and why is spirit there?
Ehhhh
Why are we nerfing Root armor?
seems odd
Full bear set grants you nice set bonuses but also slight weaknesses to physical damage types, so for more armor, no weaknesses and no ms penalty you might want to add heavy helmet (iron) with bear chest and legs pieces.
the chest is for sure op
The pierce resistance in my head atleast is coz it’s rooty plant like material so it makes sense that if you stab it it doesn’t do much
if you stab a root part though, if its made of woven root/bark there would be gaps, like chain mail for example, and a thrust would likely find a hole
Chest is currently overpowered because it gives pierce resist and there is a litany of crap to compare it to.
Solution, imo, is found in making other armors useful, not nerfing Root.
imo both
Or moving pierce resistance to armor set bonus.
Root armor should have increased defence against pierce instead of a percentage reduction so it falls off a little more through progression.
Start with adding set bonuses to heavy armor and see how things shake out.
Then come back to nerf if needed.
sset bonuses force you to wear the entire set, if each peice gives a little of the intended bonus, you can mix and match
Very much depends on the stabby instrument and the size of holes 😄 and while leather for example might not have gaps, something like broad head arrow will go through it much more easily than through woody material like root, and even if it finds a gap in them it would have to be large enough.
So make the game easier?
The pierce resistance is balanced by how ugly the armor looks when you only wear root chest lol
defends you against the piercing criticism of fellow vikings lol
should standard heavy sets come with an armor bonus of slight blunt resistance?
That's going to happen either way /shrug.
Ideally enemies would be challenging and armor would be interesting choices.
They have committed to enemies not being challenging, so I can still suggest armor being an interesting choice.
Why blunt specifically? The usefulness of that would vary a lot between biomes.
I think all heavy armor (and shields) should have physical resists, mainly to allow blocking/parrying of 2 ⭐
Character resistances don’t affect what you can block, only shield resistances do.
Well I chose blunt specifically and only slight resistance because it makes sense for heavy plated armor to help against blunt
oh not the stun bar? I thought that w as filled with post mitigation damage
not from a gameplay perspective
Yes but that post mitigation damage won’t make the block fail or not
well it will i f it kills you, or stuns you and the next hit does, I think its ridiculous that I deck my character out in the heaviest, most defensive armor available, and I can still be 1 shot
tbh if they just made heavy armors -3% per piece instead of -5% on chest and legs all that mix and match stuff would be a non-issue
root chest is definitely too strong, bit that's mainly because it gives higher pierce resist than Bonemass now
I think it'd be totally fine if it just got slight resistance to bring it in line with Bonemass
It’s a needed clutch for less experienced players imo
I would be sad if helmets became -3% but I think it would be more balanced
I like the idea of a heavy armor set bonus but I think it's ultimately still a bandaid for the movespeed debuffs being distributed weird
or a way for experienced players to stroll into mistlands in swamp gear
So it allows for more interesting gameplay for more experienced players and gives less experienced players more hits they can take, why does it need a change again?
idk I need to spend time fighting in heavy armor + ratatosk to see how much that mitigates the "feels like shit" part of heavy armor
snazzy even said its the most op armor in the game
Oh for sure I agree with that but thundering berserker axes are the most op weapons in the game that doesn’t mean they need a nerf
well it's a little janky
and probably unintended by devs - it's like how animation cancels make the game interesting but are kinda janky too
depends on what devs want the gameplay to be
I actually like that, I like moving around slower like a bad-ass and hitting the parries
The 50% pierce resistance and being specifically only for chest of a set with set bonus feels very specific and intended
snazzy has like 20% the hours of most ppl active in here haha
he's mostly right tho
I actually don't like set bonuses much because at that point why craft separate pieces of armor right?
and it seems like the heavy helmet mix and matching is forcing devs to lean into set bonuses to keep combos from being OP
like the old heavy helm root chest fenris pants combo
same here, as I said divide the bonuses amongst each piece and players have the freedom to mix n' match, we learned the ills of set bonuses from Diablo3
the only game I've seen do set bonuses well is DDO: they have augments (gems) which go into special sockets in armor
Why was set bonuses so bad in Diablo?
I also wonder if making one new piece of armor per biome is like cheaper than intended
so they do set bonuses so you gotta make a new full set every biome
I like set bonuses as an incentive to use certain sets in full for a thematically appropriate effect, but the separation of pieces allows you to still mix and match if you think of a good combo
because everything revolved around set bonuses, eliminating choice, Its great if you dont like thinking about it, but for a nerd, that likes minutia, theorycrafting, and using their brain, its bad
so I've always been a proponent of giving full metal a small set bonus, since full metal has always felt like a bit of a novelty compared to other choices
I don't imagine they will do that though
I agree, I would just decouple the set bonus from the items somehow, either split it amongst each peice or handle it like DDO does. I think heavy armor should contribute to blocking/parrying, medium to dodge/run/jump (athletics) and light to casting. As unique as everything is in this game I'm guessing they didnt want to pidgeon hole everything by lessons of previous games in the genre.
I more or less agree yea
it is definitely a little unintuitive to me that armor has almost no effect on stagger bar (the thing that controls how much you can parry)
i get the feeling most people don't know this at all
It does have a noticeable effect on the staggering, only after blocking is calculated.
iirc the armor is acting on damage that's gone through the block
a successful block will let through a smallish amount of damage that is basically 0 when armored
but if you parry like 300 dmg naked, the 60 or whatever dmg that slips through will still hit pretty hard
does that sound right?
my buddy said he saw armor value directly used in the blocking code but i couldn't find that bit
Armor is applied after damage modifiers which are applied after blocking so they're not even close to each other
