Bear trophy drop is based upon the SNG. So one might get a trophy in their first kill and another one might get one after their 100th.

But eventually they will drop and the items crafted from it, as well as the bragging one on the itemstand will be possible. 😉

i was noticing like they nerfed troll mining, the log and the slap seemed to both hit like 1 or 2 chunks at once instead of of a whole lot, so ive been usiing the unarmed trolls cuz of their down smash move, did you notice the log hitting different?

It's not ideal for the same reason mining with a troll isn't ideal, you are not leveling up mining which would help with all further mining

Take 2 person, one dig out the whole nodes, the other just the top part, after 1 hour the one just mining the top will have so much more copper and also be level 30 in pickaxe while you are level 2

It could be argued that equipment slots take away from inventory space in Minecraft as well. The design philosophy differs completely though, and you lose out on a large aspect of Valheim trying to force another playstyle from a different game.

For sure, the game is played different ways. Some, like myself, prefer the "live in world" game where you wouldn't dream of things like portals......others play it more like a RPG where they just whip through it.

Atgeir is (maybe too) strong AoE control candidate. Spears are fast and can be used as ranged weapon, they're good. Knives are fast and good. Swords are solid, maces have similar animation but are more defensive option due to higher knockback. 1h axes are okay, battleaxes are very solid.

Didn't care for the armor however. Trying to parry anything past a 1 star brute, even with upgraded armor wasn't really gonna work as it staggered you as much as you stagger them. This due to the armor penalty.

It’s not related to the lightning. When the system is re-enabled it uses the primary attack of the item used to block. The system is enabled per-item so it might’ve been for tower shields or some new kind of shield. The amount of blocks needed and time taken for the counter to reset can also vary between items.

The only times I have built a actual base in the Mistlands is the two times I have found two mountain tops surrounded by 3 or 4 sap sources. Built a base big enough to enclose the entire mountain top and those roots, for completely safe harvesting.

I built a very simple base in the mistlands and after trying to over engineer something with grausten and ballistas I just left it completely open and its honestly been fine. Can you go afk there? Obviously not, but so far I've had to rebuild a sap extractor maybe once and I havent lost any mushrooms.

For safety though I spread my mushrooms over 3 patches so if one gets Gjall'd I can reseed it from the others

or u can just use the topmining mod and pop the node from the top

Besides, if you need more, you can always mine a node later with the resource modifier turned to 1.5. That would give almost double the amount from a single node, as single items are rounded up. Meaning one item doesn't give 1,5 item but two.

I more get the feeling that the idea is that early in BF you're kind of meant just to carry a torch for defense and scare them off ("Don't go into the forest without fire!" kinda thing). And then later on actually be able to really fight them (because doing it with leather armor and flint weapons isn't great)

I am a good ways into Ashlands on my previous world, but the constant fighting kinda ground me down, I have paused that world and am now slowly playing through a no-portals world. I must say I really enjoy how it naturally slows you down. Need to plan longer excursions carefully or you wind up in situations where half your gear is broken and you need to subsist on cooked meat and berries when in Plains. It is scary, but getting home after all that is a great feeling.

I have come to value the antler pickaxe highly - it is actually great in that it can be repaired at a lvl 1 workbench, all you need to do is smack up a workbench and you're back in business, whereas with a metal pickaxe you simply have to get home once it breaks.

See that’s why I think they should make it so once you’re above 45-60 swimming level you can wade for ur stamina back…. The stamina recovery could be very slow.. in its current state the swimming stat is pretty much useless, and would also add a small chance to recover from being scuttled

I don't think we're ever going to see swimming allowing us to swim over oceans, that's kinda what boats are for. But yeah I'd like if it could let you make it to shore in more cases - but they've kinda paved the way for that with some buffs over the last year.

Trinket, potion, forsaken power (forgot which) - together they'll allow a good distance swim.

But, make sure you have your back in a safe direction. If you mistime the parry they can yeet you into deep water or something else deadly. My first fight with an abomination ended that way - got knocked into a deep pool with 5-6 leeches (one of them 2-star) and was royally effed. Took me hours just to recover my stuff from that

Yeah, to cook serpent meat you need the iron cooking rack, and then you make a stew in the cauldron. Don't remember the exact caudron level required, but I would assume at least the swamp (spice rack) upgrade.

Yeah, Elder gives you a drop you need to get into swamp crypts, where you get the major resource to make stuff that tier. The spice rack requires a plant whose seeds you can find in the swamp, from yellowish flowers. They're easy to miss, so keep your eyes open.

Any server is well served by getting restarted regularly. Valheim doesn't come with any recommendations so it's anybody's guess, but at least one restart every 6-12 hours or so should be a bare minimum.

Now, with the update live a week, how do you guys feel about the trinkets? Which are your favourites. I've just made the crystal one, but it requires so much adrenaline that I'm kinda leaning towards staying with the nimble one - a stamina boost now and then probably more beneficial than a short duration bonemass coming very rarely in big fights.

I think with trinkets you have to learn to play in such a way to build up adrenaline effectively

I crafted ashlands tier trinkets right away and it was a nightmare to get them to proc, even with the amount of mobs there

If youre not used to that, it seems better to start off with the trinkets from the other biomes
For the most part they seem more like side-grades than straight upgrades anyway

In Vanilla the trinkets feel pretty meh. With mods where your typical grey dwarf group is 10-15 instead of 2-4, they're pretty useful.

I parry a lot so they do pop regularly, so far I prefer the ones that give a bit more mobility. The crystal one is tank oriented, but so costly that it feels like it might be wasted

There is, but I didnt loose them to the boiling waters, I lost them to mostly rediculosuly fast respawning bone maws, plus a bit of damage from scraping past rocks and aggressive birds

I hosted a server once where we used Dinosaur mod. We play Very Hard Combat/No Portals/No Map so when we were sailing in out newly made Karve, we found ourselves getting eaten by a Mosasaur. Then of course we get lost in our panic to go down wind, but the Mosasaur is like 1 attack from sinking us. We drop one guy off on a "drive by" of a piece of land, sail back around as he makes a work bench for repair. We drive by, get the repair and he has a big group of goblins chasing him. He's wading out in water tryin to catch us as we have to keep moving. It was super crazy.

We sounded like a bunch of crazies in there yelling. haha

The combat skills of the average person in the game's discord =/= the combat skills of the average player. Most people still find the game very challenging, and if you put combat up to 'very hard' then it is more than enough for 90% of the player base. imho

Patience. If you do lots of exploring and don't rush bosses, this can be a very long game. Even if you try to 'rush' on your first playthrough there are so many learning pitfalls that it will take a while. Settle in a long haul mindset.

If you're not speed running, you can hang out in bronze and build most of the tools. They are useful. The mace, upgraded, will help you all through the next biome after forest.

That’s a good analysis. I agree, though I probably feel more in favor of perfect blocking- I’d say I’m like 80/20.

if there was a risk associated with parrying, then I would be all in. But perfect blocking/patting is extremely safe at the moment.

Guess that’s a drawback of not having parrying as a unique action 🤔

Me and my buddies just got to Ashlands and let me tell you, the game just gets so janky there.

Rubber banding, lag, teleporting enemies... My buddy is running it on a dedicated server he has. Is there anything to help with these issues? It's fine if I'm on alone but as soon as we get multiplayer it's just the worst experience.

Even then, my wife and I are experiencing similar issues on a G Portal server. We sit right next to each other, on the same high speed internet.

the only attack i have a lil bit of an issue with timing is the bite, but if you know when to be close enough to "get hit" you can force certain attacks i think
