Well then, if the mess doesn't bother you, rock on!

gray sand
#

Imagine not having a Smiffe-level monstrous abomination unicorn rig 😏

heady parcel
#

Me, I like my base tidy so I stash stuff away. My rig can handle crap lying around, but I just don't like it.

charred otter

I have organized chests so I know where to search when I need stuff, unlike Minecraft that are way less items so it's easier to keep stuff organized

heady parcel
#

Ashlands question: ||Volture eggs, are they only found in those nests on the ground? So a pretty limited resource?||

tacit crystal
heady parcel
#

Ah right, thank you. I quickly ran out once I started making the pie, so I've figured the pie is only for the truly important excursions.

tacit crystal
#

You can find lots of ||nests|| tho.

heady parcel
#

Not in my Ashlands it seems, it has mostly just hordes of enemies but little in the way of resources. I have located a dungeon though at last, gonna try and get to it now. But very few nests so far, and only one ruin with fiddleheads and it was a looong way out from my base.

tacit crystal
#

I have likely searched the most of the Ashlands in my world and I have chest full of them ||crust pies|| and another chest full of ||them eggs|| and some surplus in another chest. Rocky

heady parcel
#

I've been roaming my Ashlands more lately, yet I have still not come across any ||dvergr ruins or a fortress. ||Only found the first dungeon yesterday. Starting to think I landed in the worst possible place. Non stop fighting, few rewards...

All deaths from my first flametal mining attempt

tacit crystal
#

Heh, you need to dive further, barely scrathed the area. Ragnar_laugh

heady parcel
#

Yeah that's obvious, but dang just getting this far has been non stop fighting

tacit crystal
#

I assume you have your gear on as top tier as possible?

heady parcel
#

Fully upgraded mistwalker, flametal shield, Asksvin suit. Don't have enough flametal for the flametal armour yet

#

Ashlands weapons seem very underwhelming so far, so haven't crafted any except Slayer but that one I only use when slumming in other biomes

tacit crystal
#

Once you get further the gear options will get better too. But one tip for surviving: ||Root Harnesk|| fares still well there.

#

Any AoE option could also help against swarms, like Himminafl or Demolisher.

heady parcel
#

Yeah I know, but I never liked depending on that one and the set bonus from ||the Asksvin suit|| is very nice.

tacit crystal
#

Mage playstyle can also help if you're comfortable with that option.

heady parcel
#

I carry Himminafl, it is my oh-shit tool to get away when I get swarmed. Still haven't died to mobs, so it is working. But yeah I am probably being TOO cautious

tacit crystal
#

Yea, there are also situations where you can just run through.

#

Or let bigger mobs deal friendly fire against others.

heady parcel
#

Magic is not for true vikings, I did craft the Mistlands staves and experiment with them, but the skills are like 5 or so

tacit crystal
#

Mageplay is quite OP even with zero skills. But yeah I also prefer up & close style.

heady parcel
#

I'm the kind of player who was smacking kobolds with my staff when playing mage in WoW. Absolutely shite at playing the magic style...

tacit crystal
#

Well, in this game you cannot even hit with your staves lol.

heady parcel
#

Maybe that's why I didn't like it haha

tacit crystal
#

"Cannot bonk with magic stick = bad." ThinkingTroll

vernal pebble

heady parcel
#

Hahah ffs I was pushed back again. Almost made it to the dungeon entrance when about 10 charred, one morgen, two voltures, two one-star askvins and a couple of blobs all came at me at once. All I could to was run back to base and pick them all off with the bow, so now it's night again. Assault called off. Again. 😄

#

On the upside, the blobs blew up the last remnants of the cliff near my base, so now I have unrestricted view all around a few hundred yards

carmine sapphire
#

am I understanding it correctly that lvl 100 bows gives you more than 12x the dps of lvl 1 bows?

charred gale
#

i just went ahead and dropped that down to 1% i wasnt dealing with that goofy mechanic

tacit crystal
carmine sapphire
#

this doesnt account for time spent aiming of course

#

just seems like A LOT
like the worst bow in the game does 22 damage (At quality 1)
And the best bow does 94 (At quality 4)
Thats less than 5x, and the bow skill is more than double that

tacit crystal
#

I don't know all the numbers, I just play the game. Ragnar_laugh

carmine sapphire
#

yeah, I dont really know for sure either
Just surprising since I've heard it over and over again that "skills levels dont make a difference" when people complain about the death penalty

#

wasnt expecting such a huge difference

tacit crystal
#

In most skills it doesn't, but bows is one of the few exceptions.

carmine sapphire
#

so dying as an archer is more punishing than if you main melee?

tacit crystal
#

Depends also how many skills are leveled higher, usually then it's more punishing.

#

5 levels isn't that huge difference.

upbeat crypt
#

tfw you kill a serpent with your buddies, and one of them immediately does a world record jump to the meat, and the very moment he hits the water you hear the drowning noises...

carmine sapphire
#

did he die tho

upbeat crypt
#

wasn't even close to surviving

#

died like 10 meters from the ladder

tacit crystal
#

Note to self: always check stamina when going in water.

heady parcel
upbeat crypt
#

nah, the moment you start drowning it's over

#

treading water only works at 1+ stamina

heady parcel
#

Ah shit, okay. Gods

charred otter
#

Is there a way to trap lox for later breeding? I found a group of 3 right where I want my base and it's a smallish island so I don't want to kill them and then have issues with bringing them there

upbeat crypt
#

just throw berries at them until they're tamed

#

then build base around them

charred otter
#

Or maybe I should just make a base in the large plains near it, but I couldn't find a flat shore to build a base in

charred otter
upbeat crypt
#

keep in mind with the saddle you can tame lox anywhere and just relocate them easily

#

After 2 years, I finally changed my Graphiks, and OH boy does my game runs smooth.

vapid hearth
#

Huh, TIL it's possible to aggro the dwarves even if I'm in a dungeon as long as where I am on the map is close to where they are

heady parcel
#

Umm, but in what dungeon have you met dvergr?

nocturne wolf
vapid hearth
#

None, but when I destroyed a lamp in a dungeon I got messages of hostile dvergr

heady parcel
#

Weird, shouldn't happen without a ward nearby

nocturne wolf
#

The visuals of a ward suggest the area would be a sphere but in most situations it would be hard to notice it's a cylinder so it could certainly be possible ThinkingTroll

vapid hearth
#

Most likely a cylinder, because relative to where I was on the map when I destroyed the lamp inside the dungeon, I was close to a dvergr settlement. I went to check with that settlement and sure enough, they were hostile

heady parcel
#

Another Ashlands question: ||Are molten cores used for anything besides stone portals?||

nocturne wolf
heady parcel
#

More Ashlands questions: ||So what's the average yield of molten cores from putrid holes? Got six from my first, is that good or bad?||

tacit crystal
heady parcel
#

Awesome, thanks. I also have enough bones to fuel my shields until the next millennium or so..

tacit crystal
#

And to craft bolts/arrows depending which ranged weapon you use.

heady parcel
#

I've had such stockpiles of previous arrows that I haven't actually crafted any ashlands arrows yet. Frost arrows are still KING, with needle arrows still packing enough punch to be an acceptable everyday arrow when you don't really need the frost arrows.

#

But when a 2-star warrior comes at you, having frost arrows at hand feels pretty fecking good

#

Not gonna let that bastard close enough to hit me!

nocturne wolf
#

A silver sword works fine for me

#

They only hit you if you let them NeckSmile

upbeat crypt
#

The dead fear silver. Remind them why.

heady parcel
#

Aye, I value Mistwalker more than the silver sword actually due to the frost bit. When you can keep them slowed more or less the entire fight they aren't that scary

nocturne wolf
#

You get a slow enemy but also a slow fight froggi

heady parcel
#

Alas, most of the time they have a bunch of friends so I'm not interested in standing around to give them a fair fight

heady parcel
nocturne wolf
#

Spirit stacking means you don't need to let it tick, you won't lose anything for damaging them while the spirit effect is active

#

Unlike poison archpain

heady parcel
#

Usually my main objective in any fight with starred enemies is to not get hit. If they have friends, getting staggered is not good..

" Though I've heard that even with the same seed, dungeons don't generate with the same layout, so that may be something to keep in mind"

That only applies to burial chambers and sunken crypts. And even for those its a 1 in 16 spawn rate, not totally random.

All the others are the same on each seed - so I'll have a look and do some tests

vapid hearth
#

Ah, good, good, understood

vapid hearth
#

Huh, today I learned that even a loose Jotun carcass (i.e. one outside a quarry) counts as dvergr property as long as it's in the barrier

nimble moss
#

Any structure inside the barrier is treated as if owned by the ward. So if you take a cart or boat inside the barrier and start hitting the cart or boat, they get upset.

long peak

in real life when you make Charcoal its looses some mass i am thinking about making a little suggestion like making coal a bit lighter than wood

#

its a little thing but could be a nice detail

merry pebble
#

Meh, while it would be slightly more realistic there is not really a need for it

#

Tho nice detail for sure

long peak
#

yeah but i am assuming it would be not so hard minor details some times being nice but its definetly not necesery

#

it could stay this way

#

no problem with it

ancient merlin
#

Well it does sound logical. I dont know how far the devs are going into being more realistic but Valheim does offer 'realistic building' in terms of statics. It is a small and nice detail for sure, I just dont know if the will implement it. But go ahead and suggest it. Only thing that could happen is them saying no, so why not 😄

They are somewhat rarer than other bosses' but you can possibly find them in stonehenge looking stone formations.

#

But chances for finding the boss altar accidentally before Vegvisir is usually higher.

#

Also progressing plains is much more straightforward than previous ones: there is no mining needed, you gain all needed materials for plains tier gear and foods from fuling villages.

#

They have very low hp so any weapon can kill them, even crude bow with wooden arrow.

#

Root Harnesk or Serpent shield can help with the pierce damage they deal. Then there is bug repellant potion.

#

Like a trash can: deleting items, some coal can be gained in return.

yeah now i am a guy with 100 level clubs 😄

Slash is okay, they take normal damage from it. Swords might be actually slightly better in narrow tunnels than clubs due to swords having no multi target penalty.

keen trench

true, they'll soon be just a small itch, but before cauldron processed food starred ones still stagger you through parries and has to be treated almost like early mini-bosses, uhm unless maybe you go deer+boar+neck, but you'll be too much limited in stam imo

This is the OFFICIAL!!! Valheim Discord server.
People come here to seek help and in particular in this channel.

When someone in there states something that isn't true as being true; no matter if it has quotes around the message or not, it can be considered as true.
In particular because not EVERY member here is a Native English speaking person. Meaning the context of a joke can and will be missunderstood.

Which in turn will lead to players asking about something that's mentioned as a joke not being present in their game, not working as it was told them in a channel at the official Valheim discord and eventually the staff members here having to go through multiple posts to remove that piece of missinformation someone posted as a "joke".

nocturne wolf
#

Your shield and health matter a lot more than armor for not getting staggered when blocking

#

But you don't have to parry everything you see

gleaming bridge

i dont really have a use for feather cape in aslands right?

#

isnt it mostly flat

nocturne wolf

Don't worry too much about the fire weakness. Barley wine overrides it and there aren't a ton of fire damage sources anyway

I would look for alternatives 🤔

the QOL is insane but if its mostly flat the fire exposure means i gotta have fire flask up always

i died as soon as i entered ashlands like 2 weeks ago and ragequit but got my stuff back now and read up on making a generator on where i plan on setting at first, happy now just gotta destroy their spawners

The carapace buckler can parry better than the flametal shield

heady parcel

Shields are a bit more trusty in Ashlands since you are rarely dueling lone mobs, it is nice to be able to turtle

nocturne wolf
#

When parrying the asksvin did you get staggered after a successful block (you both staggered) or did it cause the block to fail? If the block failed, stronger armor won't do anything.

gleaming bridge

i have max lvl carapace shield and im full magic set up

I got the "ching" of a successful parry but still flailed my arms around. The asksvin was stunned too it seems, at least it didn't move. Allowed me to dodge away and do more of a slap'n dodge tactic

Man, I hate when a jotun's skull is buried in bedrock
I may have to find a seeker soldier and have it use its ramming attack to reach the otherwise unreachable soft tissue buried there

I usually cut my losses and look for another one when that happens, a few more tissues not really worth all the hassle (and risk) of kiting a soldier around.

Yeah, I probably would've been able to take them on if I had my rested buff (frostner knockback MVP)

I sometimes think of them as glyphids because they're giant bugs infesting mines, being fought off by dwarves

There's a bug with the audio engine that gets overwhelmed with the sounds in Ashlands particularly. A fix is in the works.

if its any consolation, I also get staggered after parrying or blocking a starred askvin in flametal armor

The best defense against them is to walk circles around them while attacking

# long peak i would recomend trying mixed armor

I know that is a good way to maximise benefits - but mixed armours have a tendency to look downright silly... Also the set bonus of the Ask suit is nice for mobility and has kept me alive more than once, so until I have collected enough flametal to make the heavy armour Ask is what I use. I just need to remind myself that I'm not as tanky as I'm used to.

frost arrows is a solution to pretty much every problems in this game

tacit crystal
# halcyon mason Wdym

Frost arrows are good against enemies with resistance to pierce, plus frost damage slows enemies.

wintry valve
#

bows are extremely good when you take the time to raise the bow skill, and frost arrows are excellent for the reasons stated above

halcyon mason
#

Not really , best way to level up bows fast is using wood arrows vs bone mass while standing above his spawn

wintry valve
#

I think you got confused with what I said

tacit crystal
#

Vinny didn't say raising skill with frost arrows, just stated leveling it has huge benefit for using bows.

halcyon mason
#

Every elemental damage arrows are good vs pierce ressitance mobs

wintry valve
#

Im not saying frost arrows are good for leveling. I mean frost arrows are good for killing. Bows are just really strong at a high skill levels. That + frost arrows = dead stuff.

#

Only frost arrows slow down enemies tho

heady parcel
#

Best way to level any skill is to just use them, I have zero patience to grind something without actually doing anything, just for skill points. Just can't do it. The one exception being when I get a skelly raid, I use that to raise block skill a few points.

halcyon mason
#

Ye understandable now my bad

and... eh... I dunno but I didnt think of using fire arrows when I was chucking frost arrows all over the place.
