the iron axe is one of those weird items that nearly everyone seems to make but isn't actually required for any progression step, the next axe tier you need for a new tree is 2 biomes later
brother, I explore like a goldfish in a bowl
Also the never ending cavalcade of crafting stations is becoming very irritating
You won't find me all over the map either.
But in case of the traders I think it's worth it to start looking for them.
btw, what food should I be using on my swamp sorties? I've been eating basically nothing but jam, deer, and boar
I finally have some carrots now, so I could probably make carrot soup
Don't use all your carrots, but keep replanting them until you got about 30 seeds.
After that you can use 10 carrots to plant for seeds and the other 20 for food. As there are two - later three - kinds of food needing carrots.
my base is still a bit too small to plant that many carrots, I think I have maybe 12 planted
And since you're in the swamp, look for a flower with a similar look as the carrots, but yellow this time.
Because you will need it.
Also, pick up thistle and when you kill draugr or leeches, their drops as they will give you new food too.
turnips and entrails right? Is the thistle used for more than just mead?
You will need the thistle with the entrails.
I didn't get a popup when I got entrails, so I assume I need that new crafting station for food too
just an upgrade for the cauldron - the spice rack
made from turnips, carrots, thirstle, red mushrooms and dandelions
oh, I mean the food prep table
Is it necessary to kill dvergar in the mistlands or just for extra murderhobo XP?
that's for things that go into the oven (which you won't have for another few biomes) or feasts
sausages are made at the cauldron, it just needs to be level 2
ohhh okay
baits are also crafted at the food prep table but i think that's it, so if you neither encounter the bog witch nor fish, the food prep table probably isn't useful until after the 4th boss, unless i'm forgetting something
Once you've found the Bog Witch you can consider building the food prep table and prepare feasts.
is the mace considered a club?
and fortunately the mead ketill and food prep table don't get any upgrades later on, only the cauldron is levelled
yes
ballin
Bait for fishing anti sting meads though
you know, I spent all this time building a stone wall aroud my base, the next time the ground starts shaking, those blue boys better not wreck my house
i always go out and lead em in a circle (only 2 can spawn at a time during that invasion, and whenever you kill one, another spawns) and then kill them after the invasion ends
I've just been wildly unlucky lately
how do you find the bog witch?
Does she spawn somewhere specific or is she just random
10 possible locations per world, whichever one you get near first is where she spawns and stays forever, the other 9 are deleted. she's automatically marked as soon as her chunk generates, so the discovery radius is pretty wide but not entirely consistent.
all locations are randomly placed in swamps at least 3000 meters from the world's center
(the world's radius is 10500 meters for reference)
is boar jerky worth making?
imo yes but most people don't use it since its stat sum is lower than other foods you get at that stage
the draw to jerky is how long it lasts and how incredibly cheap it is to make
so it's slightly worse than other black forest foods, but basically free to make
Yep, works great as base food for that point in a game π
it's one of my most-eaten foods even outside of bases, but i have some "unique" food preferences in valheim
seems like a pretty good staple to me
I really hate setting out from my home. The potential that I'll need to run all the way back to my corpse just kills the exploration for me
Hello
I began playing the game like 3 days ago, I'm enjoying it a lot, got 30+ days in-game so far
I just reached the bronze age
And im thinking about armour, what armour would you guys recommend? Or do i need to get an armour for every purpose/biome maybe?
I've been using troll leather armor personally
since every biome's enemies have more damage and health than the previous one's, you're expected to make new sets as you progress, but it's not a requirement, and some light armor sets offer unique bonuses that may be worth keeping around long after their tier
Carapace armor is the first heavy armor i would even consider making
most biomes have a light armor set and a heavy armor set, for the black forest that would be troll hide armor and bronze armor
@dim wave figure out how to make a cart and use it, you'll need it for all the copper and tin you'll be needing
though it is very much up to preference, i personally can't say i would ever recommend making bronze armor myself π
you already get the full -10% movement speed from it being metal armor, but the defense difference between bronze and troll hide is still so tiny, and many would consider bronze to be one of the least enjoyable resources to grind
I made one, the cart
nice
Only bronze things i make are a level 1 weapon and axe
I used my Karve to gather a boat load of tin haha
/ whatever crafting upgrades
Yeah our first trip was for copper and tin as well
Oh, Frog, think about making a bronze helmet
Hmm why?
it has no movement penalty
Okey sounds good
My friend made a bronze full set and said it was bad, i think because he was slow
Oh, and these boys already educated me on the glories of building a bronze mace
Do share about the mace
Bronze Armor is great.
Why?
it's good for the next biome
Snow or swamp?
swamp. Snow comes after
Good protection and it is shiny.
-# it's only like 6 more defense
I see
it's completely ridiculous how beautiful this game is sometimes
Better than the bronze pickaxe at least
Biggest scam in the game
Bronze pick is also great.
I plan on going for more burrier chambers, any suggestions on whats the best method to deal with skeletons? And them big ones in the chambers?
Skeletons are weak to Blunt. So Club, Mace, or Stagbreaker.
Bronze pickaxe cant mine anything the antler cant and the antler has effectively infinite durability
Hmm i thought they were weak to fire so i kept shooting the flame arrows
Everything has effectively infinite durability.
Not when it needs a forge to repair
but the bronze pick's infinite durability is gated behind either travelling through a portal or taking a forge to the crypt
not to mention the antler pick's so cheap you can easily make like 4 of them
There is nothing wrong with the bronze pick.
If you, personally, hate it. That is for you, personally.
It does not give you credence to state that it is objectively bad.
It is though... Its literally just a downgrade
Can someone teach me how food works? Sometimes my stamina is returning very fast and sometimes not i feel like food might have a play here
It is not.
They are also weak against fire. So basic torches work too.
being wet or cold slows down health and stamina regeneration, being rested or resting speeds it up
you get "rested" after 20 uninterrupted seconds of "resting", which you get by sitting at a fire or if you also have shelter, sitting isn't required
It doesn't do anything better than the antler and it comes with a giant downside
They hit me harder than i hit them and there's more of them guarding the cores
It picks harder and has more durability.
TWO things it does better.
Care to try again?
You can get through sunken crypts much faster
I like to craft Bronze pick in case if I encounter Leviathans early, because it has more pickaxe power and they break those abyssal nodes quicker.
Again, antler has infinite durability
unlike health regen, stamina regen isn't directly affected by the kinds of food you eat, but more max stamina does still equal faster regeneration because regeneration speed depends on the percentage of stamina you have left, so there's a longer duration of the low % speed
That is an objectively false statement.
Fire and blunt work against them well, so fire arrows are also valid option. I recommend having Stagbreaker thought.
You can find 14 wood literally anywhere
That doesn't make it infinitely durable.
I'm liking it for digging out hills around my base and mining more copper faster.
but i can bring about 3 antler picks to a crypt for no additional cost
I have it crafted, but if u had to choose between bronze mace and a stag which one is best?
Winter... you are aware of the fact it is a matter of opinion.
I would ask you stop supporting the person who is presenting it as factual.
Please π
all pickaxes mine terrain the same way π the bronze pick just deals slightly more damage to rocks
is there no way to cultivate blueberries at my home
sev you came in here calling it great
Stag.
no
Damn alr
Now that is sad to learn
Does it oneshot them maybe?
To prove it is a matter of opinion.
One person thinks something is ass, another thinks it is great.
The truth lies in the middle with it simply being, and interpretation going to the individual's preference.
You can "cheese" with Stagbreaker behind doors and hit multiple targets in area without multitarget penalty but for single target damage Bronze mace is better.
kinda wish raspberries and especially blueberries were as... everywhere as cloudberries
AoE. Good for fighting multiples.
Yo, does anyone know how raiding works cause i have a house seperate from my friends but so far they got raided twice and me not a single time
Thats handyyyy thanks
well you didn't make that very clear
Having some rough luck this go around- 25 or so cultists dead an no trophy. RNG be like that sometimes.
π
It's based on how many base items you have within a 40m radius (3 or more) and if you're near them when it checks
Sooo chests?
its waaaaaaay easier to set up a workbench than a forge on the go and that is a fact not an opinion
No, Workbenches, Campfires, Torches and several other things. There is a handy pinned link about base security
Okey, so I can't hide from raids, how do i defend, I don't want my pretty house to get ruined?
When have you ever been mining "on the go"??
In which channel is the pin?
It CAN be hidden if it is minimalist, lol, but I understand. Digging a trench or raising a terrain wall stop many early raids in their tracks
#valheim-chat message right up there, one of the last links in the message
so you go gather copper fpr a forge near every 2-3 crypts swamps u find? or do u use the map reveal and go straight to he ones with 20 crypts? or are u lucky? i wont be setting a forge for 3 crypts
Yβall still going on about pickaxes? π
I'm so lost...
look up at yggdrasil, that's a vague indicator
make the big wooden walls and surround your base with them and make two big gate doors
Decode the secrets of the tree to find iron? π
this will work until after you beat The Elder
Hold on, really?
Aren't they gonna get broken down tho?
We beat the elder today
They are very strong compared to regular walls and mobs prefer to attack the gate
since walls aren't among the things that are attacked on sight by calm enemies, that would only be a risk during invasions, which should have you out there and distracting the enemies anyway
yes but it's easy to repair them, besides those raids are really easy so you can just go outside your base and face them
My friend sailed to a swamp with a raft
Died and then apparently his scent caused a raid at the house and there were many deaths
RIP, it is harder to deal with raids without your stuffs
He was defending alone until we arrived but at that point he was almost getting spawn killed
best (probably incidental) insult i've heard in a while
When can one build stone walls?
Swamp.
once you obtain 2 iron, you can make a stonecutter, which allows you to build with stone
I see
Stone being gated that late is one of the true tragedies of the game.
on god, it rains sooooo much
it's the end of the first third of the game
What does rain have to do with anything?
I hate it in this game
Yeah and I usually have like 1k stone before I can build with it π
Hate leads to suffering.
i don't think that's a common problem to have π
How far away do the raids spawn from my house, cause i want to know id building a wall like 100 meters away or more is viable or are they just gonna spawn inside of the walls
but also a small castle eats 1000 stone for breakfast
Exactly.
if the inside is spawnproofed, they can't spawn inside
They would spawn inside, they spawn as close as they can to you spawn prevention caused by your base items
How do i spawn proof
So don't go 100m away from your spawn prevention to build a wall
with player base structures such as workbenches, torches, campfires, etc.
my spreadsheet shows which structures are and aren't player base
Yeah but how big of a radius do they spawnproof
20 meters, spherical
Each of those has 20m radius of spawn prevention by default
same as the build radius of an unupgraded workbench
Are they not cylindrical now? I thought some update made them go all the way up
Winter has a spreadsheet? I AM SO PROUD!!
i think that's the build radius
but there were some inconsistencies between the build radius and spawnproof radius of upgraded workbenches i wanted to look at
so i'm gonna go do that right now if my CPU will humour me today
PROUD!
scarlet and i split her sheet shortly after the bog witch update since it was getting pretty cluttered, and i took the chance to add a bunch more info to the comfort section, expanding it into building as a whole and providing security info as well~
How long does a poison res mead last?
It is pinned so I can find later?
How do i understand this ?
Please do! I still cant shake of the feeling they should be the same now, though i know they werent always.
I see security, but are the ones checked who provide security?
yes, same message hers is in
I was literally asking about that yesterday, lol. I haven't tested anything with the various commands, have only played default survival without, but I am super curious
10 mins
the blue checkmarks mean that something prevents enemy spawns, and the red checkmarks mean that something is attacked on sight by calm enemies
most player base structures are also attacked on sight, only a few aren't, such as campfires
It should put a buff timer in the top right of your hud
the rest need to be hidden
There's very few things that spawnproof
π€¨
I won't like having walls so close with trenches behind them
How deep do the trenches need to be, and can i fill them with water?
technically yes you can, but filling them with water is probably only possible at water level
@merry pebble @ancient agate the build radius is cylindrical, but the spawnproof radius is still spherical.
however, i remember when this feature was initially introduced, the spawnproof radius didn't increase with the build radius, which it now does.
you know what, I think I'm gonna stop making queen's jam and just eat honey or carrots instead
That's why I turn an island into a plateau and build on that.
If the island is far enough from the shore, you can build walls at the edges of the plateau and don't have to bother with anything entering it.
It's one of the trade-offs. If you want a build safe from (most) raids, keep most player base items unbuilt.
If you want a big, base with many benches ready to go, it will be raided if you are near from time to time, so you must choose how to defend it.
If the effective methods of protection are unseemly or inconvenient, you risk rebuilding the more vulnerable areas
8 meters down from the terrain's original shape (it remembers that)
That's the max change in either direction
yepp
Walls and trenches can be effective at half that
Okey wait so what's the worse possible raid that can happen
Though it does depend on if your build is tall and enemies shooting fireballs
trolls if you aren't prepared for it
or bats if you have alot of livestock
... Yes and no, Trolls are able to damage structures faster than many stronger foes
Bruh
kinda subjective.
personally i think trolls. they may not deal much damage, but i use a lot of wood, and their attacks have huge hitboxes that go through structures.
naturally, as a threat against the player, lategame invasions are much worse, but most of them don't have as much destructive potential
the sealed tower one can be pretty rough too if you don't have a moat
Id a troll comes rn im done with the game
I'd argue drakes are worse but those will get disabled eventualy π
Godspeed on those random tables
Griefers.
Troll seems to happen to me more than anything else
considerind invasions have an equal chance depending on which ones you can currently get, that's some bad luck π
nope
No.
no, only terrain can do that
Bruh
Earthen walls.
Frog, just turn raids off. Simple.
later materials have more health and better resistances, but nothing is unbreakable, and enemies also deal more damage as you progress
here go my dreams of building a beautiful huge viking village
Turn raids off.
yea you could just turn raids off
you can. You just have to go out to defend it when a raid comes
Enemies only attack your buildings if they can't get to you
Huge distant terrain wall and maaaany hidden campfires and torches are in your future
or you could spawnproof every inch of loaded terrain, true π
I turned raids off. Mostly because bat raids are the most annoying thing in the entire game and wipe large amounts of livestock without much counterplay besides cram all your animals in a sealed barn with no openings at all except a door you keep closed.
But thats partially ugly
Can raids swim?
It can be hidden with style, but yes largely
most yes, some undead walk at the bottom of the sea
You can also vibe on a small island that's large enough for your home/village but small enough that nothing will spawn around outside of it.
Frog, trust. Your solution to building what you want to build and enjoying it is just to turn them off.
you can hide terrain walls inside stone walls. The stone walls can still get destroyed but your base behind them is safe
that's usually what i do, but one day i also wanna do a raidless playthrough in which i can just make a cute lil build without worrying about defenses at all
Don't the raids spawn on the sea floor tho?
That's about what my friends and I are doing right now. But we're pretty easy on some other difficulty settings too like death penalty.
some of them can.
i think undead still need to spawn on land, they can just walk underwater, but flying enemies funnily enough can spawn underwater, which makes them impossible to spawnproof against on a small island because spawnproofing stops working under 2 meters of water
They shouldn't, I've not had that happen. Undead can walk under water along the bottom, but that doesn't mean they'll spawn there I think.
I hate this feature
you can turn it off
Thats not okey tho
i've had bat raids trigger on a spawnproofed island and no bats spawned
is there a way to smooth out slopes?
is it? i mean, up to you
I think it is okay. I mean, there's some raids I wish I could specifically turn off, but this seems okay.
i think it's okay, the game's building system is too beautiful to have to put defenses around everything
hold shift while using the hoe
I don't want to dial down the game's difficulty, but i also want some security
the game doesn't want you to have security unfortunately π
but you can turn off raids without turning down the difficulty in other areas at least
Best thing you can do is the workarounds and tricks like earthworks/walls/trenches or building on convenient land features like small islands to achieve raid defense/denial.
uhhh, how does that work
Yeah but that's ugly or it doesn't protect 100%
and i've had plenty of dripping wet bats and drakes fly up to my most recent solo base, but nothing else ever came π
that's true, but is what it is. I'm not sure what I could suggest to you or the devs that'd be viable or worth implementing for this niche goal.
look up valheim terraforming on youtube, there's some good video tutorials
sure
If I don't progress, will raids still get more difficult?
they're advanced by enemy kills, mostly bosses
Raids have certain triggers, some world events like killing your first bat or having killed a certain tier boss.
every boss has one invasion that's meant to hint towards the boss. that invasion is enabled after the previous boss and disabled after this boss is slain.
but some bosses also add additional invasions that never stop happening
for example the troll invasion can start happening after the elder and at least 1 troll have died in that world, but nothing ever disables it again
We killed both
honestly there's maybe 1 or 2 raids that are actually dangerous once you know what you're doing. Worst case just hop into a portal to take a rest break whenever you need one.
"the forest is moving" starts after eikthyr is killed but stops after the elder is killed
Eikthyr has the best raid.
What raid is that
Boars.
boars and necks
Free boar and neck meat
Eikthyr raid is just free food delivery
Oh
It's Valheim Uber but you cook it yourself.
I had that raid happen, defended tho
UberMeats π
I always build a base first thing with workbench, fire and bed so that it'll happen, but it never does for me.
Same for greydwarfs really, once you have some leather armor they're no threat. And you can always use more greydwarf eyes imo.
gosh same, i've had it maybe twice in actual normal gameplay
I think i had it happen only once π usually Eik is killed too quickly
and i don't even kill eikthyr quickly! as everywhere else in life, i take my sweet time with everything
-# oh goodness gracious i forgot i had valheim running, thank god my PC's still kicking
I have full Bronze Armor before Winter kills Eikthyr π
How do u make text gray
-# hmmm
and i have troll armor before then :>
Since when is this a feature lol
Plz don't spam it though.
somewhat recently
I just want the pickaxe as fast as i can so i can start preparing ground for a base in any way i need π (tho lately i try to make at least a bit of use from the natural terrain π )
Oh you have no idea how much of a no-life farmer I am when I am playing π
Whats the worse raid that can attack me before i kill 3rd boss?
I do need berries...
i kinda wonder if that oak experiment from a few weeks ago damaged my CPU
it'd be pretty funny
F5
spawn Smiffe
π
#valheim-public-test message it starts here
"You don't have access to this link" π
it's in the public test channel, you just need to click on the thingy in id:customize
Heh, you are not public tester aparently π
Oh I know. I am not in certain channels on purpose.
Nice axe π
All I see is slideshow. Are you sure PowerPoint is installed correctly?
no :>
488 seeds / 400 oak = 1.22 seeds / oak. Seems less than the quoted 1.25 for the sample size.
Do I need to worry about greydwarfs breaking my boat while I'm not around?
Possibly some slideshow loss?
but the previous 3 tests came out above 1.25.
considering the many factors involved in that outcome, it's very likely for it to vary, but the average seems to be 1.25, which checks out with the calculations
Sounds like good viking science to me
Well, the 400 is not exatly gigantic sample size π for that number 1,22 is close enough
yea, with this many factors, the only sample size i'd be happy with is something around 10000, but i wanted to give my PC a break
Is it possible to share a world save with someone else so that they could play
Whats the goal with this?
Yep, you need to go to C:\Users\ "your user name" \AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim and there you should see worlds_local folder, if there isnt that means you have it on cloud but you can move it to local in game π (the appdata folder is normaly invisible tho)
if i remember correctly, someone was doubting the oak tree wiki page's info on acorn drops.
i wasn't certain at the time but i did believe it to be correct after doing a lil bit of math, and i'm pretty sure it is
here's what the wiki says, without much explanation π
I wonder how many players bother to chop more than 100 oak trees to begin with
If ur running scenarios, instead of running one right after the other u can try to run a scenario every 5 something's and then based on those results run some more tests when the graph line curves
Can we plant trees btw?
i believe it's meant to be read as
- 50% chance for extra drops on top of wood (the lower 3 rolls are extra drops, the first 3 are guaranteed)
- then 50/50 between 2 and 3 drops
- then 40% for each of those individually to be acorns
- then 50/50 for it to be 2 or 3 acorns
(running it like this, it comes out to an average of 1.25, which matches the number on the page)
yes, you need a cultivator
Where do i get bees from
but most trees don't drop seeds at a sustainable rate, that's why acorns came up - they're the only non-beech tree that has a seed drop average of above 1
I got some on singleplayer but idk where to look for em on the server
you can sometimes find beehives in meadows ruins (very rarely also in one black forest structure)
simply break them to obtain a queen bee, do note that the bee usually drops above the hive and thus sometimes on top of the roof
Ye
Oak doesn't spawn in large quantities though, so Law of Large Numbers Trees may not apply at all
So i just gotta get lucky then?
yepp, listen for buzzing while you're out and about~
Also what are the best foods to eat? Cause im currently eating some deer and berries and bore meat
I'd be interested in knowing the average number of oaks spawned in a world. I would guess less than 100.
Is oak rare?
The world is massive, but meadows is not the world
iiit's definitely more than 100, they just blend in well from afar
meadows cover a lot more ground than you'd think
Again, it's a guess. I would be interested in an actual count.
they only stop generating at 5500 meters from the center, which is more than half the world's radius
true, i am too
didn't kirilloid have some test results on prefab amounts somewhere
probably lost in the january wipe
broooo 19 scrap iron in a friggin dungeon chest
RNG may taketh away, but it also giveth
RNG always giveth.
Just not always what you want it to give π
Meanwhile Iβm still looking for a cultist trophyβ¦
I should have some spares if you want xD
RNGeezus was good to me with those in this run π
Thank you! But I must earn it πͺ
I'm on my second sunken crypt and I have 54 scrap iron and 51 ancient bark
That's most likely enough Ancient Bark for your entire playthrough.
Iron, however........... Most likely 10% of what you are going to need.
I would say closer to 1-2% π
Depends at how much you will need for building, I s'pose.
I just build an entire bridge without using any iron, other as for the stonecutter.
So that saved me a lot.
I mean, its always better to have more iron than you really need π and while i dont really build with it i usually upgrade all iron stuff to max which is mostly unnecessary
is there even enough caves in the world to max out 2 sets of fenris armor?
the hair seems really scarce for me.
Yes there should be more than enough, but the RNG might be finnicky sometimes π
noted
Probably just going to more marked Howling caverns at the risk of getting mauled of mister geir
You do know you can harvest Fenris hair from the "banners" you see hanging down?
And not just the hair from the braids at the bottom, but also when you shoot the banners so they can be destroyed?
Yes, I know this
usually just gives me 2 hair though
for bottom and the top pieces of hair. Im only usually getting 1-2 rooms per cave
I've done 5 frost caves so far. Got enough hair out of it to craft the entire set, plus the first upgrade and still have 32 hair left.
So if not mistaken that's 107 in total.
But I had one or two frost caves giving me an ample 20 hair, so I guess the Sadistic Number Generator is working against you.
that says 2-3 acorns per tree, but you can get up to 8...
2-3 extra drops, all 3 of which can theoretically be 2-3 acorns each.
so the maximum is 9
(the wiki page really could be clearer about that)
ah, gotcha
in my experience starting a oak tree farm has been very lucrative. lots of wood and fine wood right outside my doorstep and it will likely keep going for a long time if you start with a dozen or so
it is statistically speaking sustainable and sounds like a very good idea imo, the safety net is just small enough for a downward trend to still be pretty plausible.
definitely wouldn't start with only 4 acorns yea π
what iron weapon is smartest to make?
Mace
There is no singular answer to that question.
Is it normal for the geography of my map to not match the seed scanning website in some places?
-# considering the rather lopsided resistances of the swamp, there kinda is
some or all?
how old is the world
Sword - good
Mace - good
Atgeir - good
Sledge - good
Axe - god awful
Some, very old. I started right after mistlands came out. Or maybe a month or two before mistlands
that's not helpful advice.
as much as i love atgeirs, someone going into bonemass with an atgeir as their main weapon is gonna have a bad time
Wow
will an iron sword do more damage to draugr than a bronze mace?
I'm actually starting to wonder if I should start over. All my mistland areas seem to be 90% giant rocks
You'll have that.
Keep exploring, go east/west rather than north/south
Accurately saying that all of the iron weapons are good and that people should play with what makes them happy is "not helpful"... π
not against draugr, since they're neutral to all 3 physical types, but skeletons, blobs and bonemass all take more blunt damage
Especially when it's a new player like @wispy tree is.
skeletons are super weak though so who cares about them.
look, everyone can have their preferences, i'm all for that, but they asked for the "smartest choice", and going by what is stat-wise the best is the best answer.
i'm not saying "DO NOT make an atgeir", just "it's maybe not the best idea in this biome"
and for bonemass, my plan is to pelt him with arrows, idk if that's viable or not though
just make every weapon
Slowest way to kill him, but it is viable.
Bring 10000 arrows and make sure your schedule is clear
You may want to consider to upload your Valheim map files to the site, instead of having the site generate the map from the seed.
It still may not be 100% accurate, but it's a lot closer to what your current map is, as what the seed generator would provide.
hmmm
bonemass is very resistant (x0.25) to pierce damage so yea π that's gonna take a while
Generalized question gets generalized answer.
If they were specific about something like "for Bonemass" then the answer changes.
they asked "iron weapon", which implies swamp.
there is only one swamp enemy against which maces are a below average choice, and 3 against which they're the best.
It is better to master 2 melee and bow, just to be ready for everything.
i think that might be bad luck, because if it's a pre-mistlands world you should be having the opposite experience - the mistlands update increased the amount of mistlands coverage each world gets (and decreased swamp coverage and max distance) and adjusted all poi maximums to that.
but pre-mistlands worlds were uniquely not affected by this landmass change, but were as usual affected by the poi maximums, so pre-mistlands worlds have the same amount of mistlands dungeons as fresh worlds, but they're crammed into a tighter amount of mistlands
Personally, I think the "best" weapon for a biome is often the one that works best against a boss.
So in this case, that's the mace.
For Black Forest it's the bow and axe / bronze sword, for Meadows it's the bow / spear / knife.
For Mountain it's the silver sword / bow and so on.
I'm using atgeir and mace. Whirling iron 4 atgeir attack good enough to stag 2star draugr or even common wolf or troll.
i think in most biomes the resistances really are balanced enough for every weapon to shine, swamps just stick out in that regard
Well, so far there hasn't been a single leech not being killed by a bow and flint arrows. And I prefer that over melee-ing them actually.
and the more recently added abomination does give some benefit to making a slash weapon in swamps too
oh man, that iron armor speed penalty is ROUGH
as is its price, the game will demand iron til long after swamps
If you find the bog witch you can make tonic of ratatosk to get your speed back up
Or you kill enough abominations to make yourself a root armor.
Why havenβt I thought about doing this for my battleaxe user lol
not only that, but bonking golems and wolves in the next biome makes the mountain much easier
@plush umbra
What do you think of this?
My idea and your idea: #building-screenshots message
wait what was my idea? π
To use the Dverger lanterns.
-# Everything π
oh, i just wanted to note that they're also not fuelled, i wouldn't have used them myself since they're attacked on sight and don't even spawnproof
I used the polve versions on Grausten Tapered Pilars. So it kinda looks good when there are more waves,
Yeah, I know you mentioned the spawnproofing. But I still thought I may use it.
It does kinda look nice at night too.
true, they're pretty~
And the night shot: #building-screenshots message
Only disadvantage I just discovered, I need to make it wider. π
things laying on the ground next to a workbench never despawn right?
yes
I just encountered my first ever gjall and seeker soldier at the same time. holycrap that was fun.... Is it possible to beat a 2 star seeker soldier with max level padded armor, black metal sword/shield?
it's possible, idk if you can parry it but just bait and walk out of his attacks, and when he does the 2 slam attack go and hit his butt, rinse and repeat until dead
When i lose a fish in valheim, why does it strictly start staying on the surface of water with a water trail behind it wherever it goes now?
Frost arrows work alright.
Died to collapsing flametal vein. Then died trying to retrieve gear by getting hit by ejected magma bouncing me off basalt platform
So unimaginably tilted with Ashland's
Out of curiousity, Is there any concept art of yagluth. Maybe before he was "dead" or atleast with legs?
Does anyone know who provides the best budget valheim server hosting service for valheim? I have a server in Frankfurt with AMD threadripper and 6gb of ram, but idk if i can host there or if thats even enough ram
Morgen gjall.
Is it worth upgrading to dvergr walls and spikes? Ive got the same base defense of spike walls ever since the bronze age but nothings ever gotten through the walls, occasionally at raids only. But now with the eitr refinery and fulings tryna break in almost constantly at night, i feel like i should upgrade, but the dvergr walls are pretty expensive
whats up gjall is my least favorite looming threat, and i fear it might happen any second now
Have you considered digging a moat
moat is a funny word
im very close to water, so a trench would just end up being filled with water and unable to actually dig
if i actually succeed, sure, should be real awesome, but so far doesnt seem i can make something work
Nah I've made one on the beach it's not that hard, start from higher up and get everything done before digging out to shore
Still works even if it's standing water to funnel enemies into one specific spot that's easily guarded vs around the whole base
hi! new player here.....is there a way to cultivate blueberries?
Not without using mods afaik
dam ok ty
im a dwarf rn, rock and stone
hihi
yall im in an dillema, what staff should i upgrade first? ive got the skeleton thing at lvl3, and the three others at lvl2. I use em all equally, swapping- which one benefits the most from an upgrade to 3
heyhey
staff of the wild maybe
Hello, chat, wassup, I wanted to asked if any of you play with 1050ti, I need opinion on how it runs since I have 1050 ti, ryzen 5 2600 and 16 gb ram
mistlands lvl3.
it should be fine
ill just upgrade prot then embers
It should be fine, aka like.. 50 fps?
i play on lower graphics and its all good for me
you have specs like mine?
no lower and valhiem runs fine
Bet, thanks
np
can someone give me a tip how to reach moder , me and my friend are still in early silver edge and all of the 3 moder spawn are all in mistland area and covered with mist from all sides π never saw a seed like this what to do in this situation
mistlands can be intimidating at first, but if you're playing with map on, just use 3 stam foods and run through the thinnest part, setup a little base a bit away from moder and stock it with frost res pots
cool
Atgeir and greatsword users just zooming and battleaxe users take another undeserved L on that regard (speed penalty)
Is there any mod that enable "creative mode" (free building and flying) in multiplayer?
That mod should allow for other players to use debugmode
debugmode being the creative mode you're thinking about, the command is already in the game.
I have tried that and after the instalation the game wasn't launching ;/ I think it might be outdated since last update for this mod was in over a year ago
Do you have bepinex installed?
yup
Is it only the admin that needs creative mode or all players?
well the person who host the server can use debug mode
Can anybody help me find and fight the plains boss so I can FINALLY get to the mist lands?
There's people who have used the mod in november this year so I think it should be usable
but I want to help her bulid, but from what I know there is no way for me to use debug mode in multiplayer
You can build without debug
Hmm, ok I might try again and see what happens
Itβs a nice challenge to figure out how to build in survival
atleast until the feather cape
I googled it now and the owner should be able to add you as an admin to the server in some config file, allowing you to use debugmode too
Might depend on the type of server tho
yea we are playing on non dedicated server
Could try that, no idea if it works tho.
Just ignore the part about nodecraft
will try that, thanks :3
Man I donβt think Iβll be able to get my plains base finished before Christmas
Iβve just not had too much time to play lately
I feel your pain, too many parties I'm expected to be at really eats into the gaming time I have.
For me itβs been cleaning my car and work eating my time and then next 3 days that I have off Iβm helping with cooking and gonna be with family so wonβt really have time either I donβt think
Iβm estimating atleast 3-6 hours of just grinding for resources+building to finish off just the main base section
Donβt really wanna cut into my sleep time either
Certainly don't do that, sleep is important.
For sure the game isnβt going nowhere
Of course you can.
Sleeping 11 hrs instead of 12 won't harm you at all.
I wish I could sleep that long I usually get between 5-8
My body refuses to sleep longer for some reason
Even with no alarm
I usually only get 5-6h of sleep, can't go to bed before 12pm because of a sleep disorder and the alarm clock goes at 6.
In the weekend I can sleep a bit longer, 7-8h.
cries in 7 hours the past 2 nights combined
Get short acting / immediate release quetiapine
most sleep aids have pretty strong side effects, quetiapine I've found is the best option for a lot of people.
seroquel etc.
Here's the thing, I already have a prescription sleep aid lol. I'm just fucked in the head lmao
Well keep looking if it's not doing the job
oh, it is. I should specify that the last 2 nights are 100% outliers. And at least I know why too
normally I'm getting around an average of 7-9 hours
Ouch, I really hope you never get to my record of 26 hours of sleep in 9 nights, and non of it in a stretch of more than 1.5h at a time.
I really crashed after that and the doctor sent me home for a week and all I did that week was, morning routine, kids to school, come back home, sleep on the couch if I was to tired to drag myself to bed.
I set an alarm to go pick up the kids from school and when the kids went to bed I also went to bed.
I didn't sleep much during those night but at least I could sleep during the day.
Our twins who are special need kids, didn't sleep trough the night for the first 6 years, I had to get out of bed at least 2 times a night (11 being the most I ever had to get out of bed).
Because of that I developed DSPS, in short my sleep hormone gets produced to late and it fucked up my biological clock completely.
God I love taking a lontboat through a river during a storm
I killed a deer by ramming into it
Thought it was a rock, but then saw the blood explode behind me
That deer steak will be tender.
It will be ruined π
And washed clean for sure.
Anyone have 2000 hours on this game??
π
Iβm getting super close
I can say the Lighting axes are definitely the best in the Ashlands
Its just a little wet, its still good, its still good.
am I the only one that feels forced to explore the edges of the starting island? wether by foot or by boat?
like it's a side quest to do
I usually explore every island unless I run into the mist
Nah, I'm doing the same. If only to know where I can get the easiest to a future island base.
I found my first mistlands yesterday, i was still in troll armor
ship got stuck in rocks
Night fell
Giant ennemy bombers and insect swarms arrived
I hid on a remote rock I swam to for the entire night
never going back there again
some dwarfs bois helped me, but they didn't last long lol
@lean mountain lol that usually happens at every new biome, wait till you hit the Ashlands you will want to return to the Mistlands π
nope, nuh huh, not going down there
I do it as well, I scout the entire starting island, first I'll check the whole meadows and see where black forest connects to it, I might even take a little swim if an island with meadows outlook is in view and at a distance that can be traversed while swimming.
After that I'll scout all the black forest and keep going biome by biome till the whole starting island is checked.
#1024264966712340510 is the best place to find fellow Valheimians to play with.
Either post something yourself or browse at your leisure.
Scouting the entire spawn island can turn into a problem. When plains are on spawn island. Luckily It's been rare for me when that happens
I love when serpents randomly decide to not aggro me
I have to turn my ship around and chase them
"COME BACK, YOU RE SUPPOSED TO SCARE ME!!!"
love that you called them "enemy bombers". My favorite biome btw. Every once in a while I lose a couple of levels but the athmosphere and parkour feels great.
I do it in biome chunks I'll scout all meadows I find. After that all the black forest on starter island and so on.
I see. I just run around the entire perimeter. Turn around at plains and swamp.
is the third biome mountains? on starter island i have meadows black forest and mountains
No, its meadows>black forest>swamps>mountains>plains>mistlands>ashlands>deep north π
Generation of biomes can be different every time, look what elder dropped you
Yooo
How i can build freely and flying to build on xbox, i watched some video for buildings and saw people can fly while building, i tried hummer mode but i couldn't fly and it requires i must be within penches borders,
Guide me please
elder is on another island im making bronze rn
Then you dont need to know what next biome is right now π
true!
Hello, fellow vikings
hey is here anyone with a valheim server for a hardcore playtrough?
bruh
Ask the host of the world. We have no idea
can anything be done about a sunken crypt blocked by a giant root?
There are devcommands to remove world items, but otherwise it's very exploitative.
completely obstructed
whats the command and how do I use them? I don't really think it's cheating in this case
You'd have to check the Wiki. I don't know off the top of my head.
Is it a root or a fallen tree? or a tree stump?
The first two can't be removed if you wack it with an axe and it shows "too hard" as a message. The third one however can.
Is your giant root too hard? Or, is it just a stump that requires a good whacking?
probably fallen tree, but hitting it with my bronze axe did nothing
This is probably a super common complaint, but my god, iron weighs entirely too much
Guess using dev commands to remove it is one of the three options you got.
The second is checking if you're able to get on it and slide towards the entrance. Then when you're able to use the key, enter the crypt.
But getting out may be a problem, so I won't advise doing that.
Third option is to leave that crypt and simply move on to another crypt. There's more than enough crypts in swamps to provide you with all the iron you may need.
I love that draugr with a star just could not care less how much armor I'm wearing. very fun.
Over time you'd love it that they still attack you, despite you being able to kill them with a single hit / shot
it just sucks when you feel like you're too weak for something in particular but it's literally the next thing you need to do
I know the feeling.
And I also know that it sounds as if I'm an annoying know it all, but the best approach is taking things slow until you're more comfortable with the game.
Which basically means don't sprint, but use the "normal" running, sneak when possible, stop to listen and look around you once in a while, use a bow to do sneak attacks when you can because even at low levels a sneak attack can kill an enemy.
And above all - but that goes for the entire game - keep an eye at your rested status and food. Try to keep in mind how long it takes to move from your base / portal to where you are and reduce that amount from the rested timer to make sure you're getting home safe.
The rested status is one of the most important stats of the game. Even more - imho anyway - as your skill levels in some weapons.
encountering a star draugr elite in the crypt is the closest thing to horror I can find in this game. especially if they're backed up by archer draugrs
tho ngl my first sea serpent also gave me a massive scare
Never encountered a Seeker Soldier in an invested mine, haven't you?
Ah yes, the 2 star seekers in the mines. that is scary as hell too
but the scariest part is the thought of having to navigate the mistlands to the mine after your death
I'm always keeping my old gear, so that wasn't actually that scary. But so fight a Soldier in a mine using a bow and simply seeing those low dmg numbers.......
Not something I'd like to have happening too often.
The next thing after that, Stone Golems. I hate those things because I can't take them out from a range.
I've not yet invested in a mine. I am hoping that the game will allow us to progress immediately to more sustainable solutions.
Curious? How is your knowledge of Nederlands? Spreek, lees en schrijf je dat een beetje?
If not, perhaps it would be a very smart idea to stop making fun of other people's grammer and spelling jokes as not everyone here is a native English speaking jerk like you.
Or are you just trying to troll people to get clown awards?
Oh. Yes! This! Why would anyone want to exist with anything less than a complete mockery of every aspect of life.
I had literally this exact situation happen to me haha
2 star draugr archers pre root armor are my bane
multiple times now, as they sit on top of a spawner
I really like that starred enemies still provide a significant threat, even if we are geared up in their relative biomes. I'd be happier if starred enemies dropped items more meaningful, but they still provide that "Oh crap!" moment.
What I usually do:
Mine out the muddy scrap piles and as soon as you see / hear movement, stop. Mine out a bit on the side so you got room to use a bow, then start picking the monsters off.
That way the muddy scrap pile is always between you and the monsters, basically giving you some extra defence.
If the monsters know you're there and approach you, retreat, as the poison "breath" of the blobs may still hit you.
If you see a corpse pile, try to shoot it. If you can't, mine out a bit until you can, retreat if you must.
Then destroy the corpse pile and focus at the Draugr later.
If there happen to be Draugr archers, retreat further in the room, go into sneak and peek around a corner with your bow drawn so you get a shot the moment you are able to hit them.
This is great advice, it just happens to be the case that none of these apply to my current situation except maybe trying to suicide rush the corpse pile
Have you mined out the entire muddy scrap pile?
If you haven't, it still may work, just need to remain further away from that opening.
If you have, having a larger distance may a better option for sure.
no, the choke point is actually a submerged passage
That's making things a bit more complicated, yes.
Do you have a shield? And if so, which kind?
Yeah itβs definitely something welcome in the game as it provides more enemy variety, makes my revisits to the swamp more fun when Iβm farming blood bags I have a large swamp with none of the mob spawners broken itβs a great way to farm weapon skills, although Iβd be happier if we even just had unique starred enemy trophies and starred variants of all the enemies being available at least postgame
yes, banded iron
And a mace, I assume?
As well as health and stamina potions?
How much health is considered good enough for the plains?
More than 80 so even without any armor the bugs dont one shot you i would say π
100 is probably a solid number to look for
Oh okay perfect
Wolf skewer + 2 stam foods will get you that
I donβt got onions
Nope, just poison potions, but I do have a mace
Well that sucks
Is this your first playthrough?
Time to get farming
Mb
I donβt have onion seeds
Without any onions to farm...
If it's not your first playthrough, how do you not know the rough health requirement of Plains?
To repeat the answer to another person's question:
Well, that sucks.
it's fine, I just managed to break the spawner and found a ton of scrap iron
Itβs been a while. I came back to the game recently. Also I have bad memory
Welcome to the club π (regarding the bad memory)
Itβs so bad I forgot the name to a portal that had my boat near it
The portal was placed yesterday
I usually use numbers, that way i can just go through all of them π
what species is yagluth
Fuling
big man
Man, if only I had done that
Oh I did remember the name there was just a portal next to me already connected to it
I'm not disagreeing; Yagluth is indeed Fuling. But, imagine being born where 'You' -> Human was 'Yagluth' -> Fuling.
yagluth to me, is the most interesting boss
along side the elder, tons of questions you could ask about them
I can recommend reading through https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Runestone π it has tons of lore
idk Fader lore goes hard
I've always thought he was a former Jotun.
When comparing the petrified bones to Yagluth they're more or less equal in size.
But fades into obscurity very quickly...
Yag Is smaller than that i feel, he has samΓ© ears as fulings too. + He was their king long ago and i don't think they would let Jotun rule themπ
Well, if he was their race, he must have had a hidden stash of grow hormones somewhere. Because one of his fingers is already larger as a Fulling Beserker.
But it's also possible he wasn't but just pretended.
IIRC there were more kinds of Jotun as just the giants.
dudes a wizard i don't see what's stopping him from making himself magically bigger
is there lore on why the character is able to respawn forsaken/bosses repeatedly or is that just for us and not necessarily them (its already gone in their world?)
True true, he might have some jotun blood in him maybe, but we will not know that π
Perhaps the banishing only works if all of the fallen ones are banished?
We do know there were others before us, with "Ulf" and "Astrid" being the two most notable. But we don't know if "Ulf" ever succeeded. (And need to wait a while before we discover if he even has been in the Deep North).
Necks, boars, deer, greydwarves, draugr, fulings... they all respawn too. Why would the bosses be any different?
There's a lorestone about this iirc, basically the viking only perishes when they no longer have the will to keep going
Oh the question is abut respawning the forsaken π not us
"The Queen is dead! Long live The Queen!" Makes perfect sense to me. π
because from what i'm reading, they werent always there.
they were banished there and we come and kill them.
was just unsure if our character kills them once but the player is allowed to kill them multiple times (IF wanted too for the fun of it)
If you put a summoning mechanic into the game, the bosses are lined up like wanna-be Mall Santas.
well on the topic of yagluth, the trophy head can say "Do you come to gloat, little thing? Do you know how many times I have been killed, broken, banished, burned and buried? You are not the first and you will not be the last." So Yagluth obviously can come back after we kill him, and therefore it makes sense he can be respawned.
Not all of them, some of them are native iirc π
Yeh. The hourly rate for bosses increases across the game. Eikthyr is pretty happy to just chill in death, but Fader is paying down a significant mortgage.
"seven were the creatures banished to this mighty world by odin, too proud to bear his yoke"
"He threw down the vanir, the giants and those creatures older than any other. The greatest of them not be killed, but exiled in valheim for eternity"
They get great medical coverage, too. Mostly because they're European.
dont seem native to me i think
This lorestone gets me, we've fought 7 forsaken, so what's the boss gonna be in deep north?
Oh the forsaken, yes, but not all other mobs were cas into valheim π
Don't you know?
Santa Claus of course!
yesss but im talking of the forsaken/bosses
not the mobs ofc
The lore implies loki
I feel quite Sisyphean, so I'm going now. Nite all.
Or, what's more likely, the last boss, as I don't see the Queen as a "real" Viking Lore related boss.
Source? (actual question)
One must imagine you happy
You could place a sign on portal and write where it leads perhaps?
Yeah I could do that but found that there was a portal connected to that one next to me
The runestones in game say it was Loki(they call him the winter child but it's heavily implied he's Loki) that made the Ashlands boss go crazy and destroy make the Ashlands the way it is. And since there will presumably be frost giants in the deep north and Loki is half frost giants it would make the most sense to fight him
There's a really good video that breaks it down
Ah okay, I'm familiar with the winter child theory, because that's supported by the lorestones in the ashlands, but loki is purely speculation
The one from Embr?
Yeh
I have a feeling the winter child is not Loki π€
what was the ashlands before it was put to ruin?
Just normal presumably
A very successful kingdom where Fader ruled over it
Who do you think it is
kinda meadowsish judging by the charred tree shapes
The Winter Child
i was thinking a form of meadows mixed with black forest
I feel like itβs an original Valheim character more than likely
highly unlikely
What the winter child is, is a better question imo
yea valheim's been very committed to being mostly original for a while now
Loki makes way too much sense for it not be him imo. The way the winter child is described is incredibly similar to loki
would be a pretty anticlimactic answer to such a strange character though
We have Loki specifically mentioned in a dream already, right? The one about rings and fingers in ears?
We also had a big mass without paws or head being mentioned as a bear. Haven't seen him in game.
that's Ymir. I don't think we'll see him.
Unless he's the boss in the Deep North, demanding all the flesh we bought from Haldor being returned.
Lol, can you imagine him simply removing any weapons from your inventory that use it?
Would be hard without paws, but perhaps he only need to roll over them and have the flesh join that mass he is again?
when u get free serpent meat and then free serpent stew on top of it from cooking skill... mmmm
It's funny that you need to buy Ymir flesh from haldor but it's literally just dirt
bye bye frostner
I think loosing Frostner is one thing.
But imagine the smell when you use a lightning or fire weapon against him. All that hair that's going to smolder..... π€’
fr?
Yeah
Ymir is the first being to exist in Norse mythology but Odin killed him and made the earth out of him. His flesh is dirt, his bones are rocks, and his blood is the water or smth like that
Makes me wonder if our characters realize that they're being scammed
lol
So the frostner is literally just silver dirt and some old swampy ass wood and that creates the best weapon in the game???
Also finally decided to venture a lil into the mistlands, 2 heavy swings with the frostner takes out a 0* seeker lol
Don't forget that piece of metal you put at the end of that old swampy ass wood
The odd thing is, in a way it makes sense, as you can use dirt to cast a hammer head.
And at the same time it doesn't make sense, because cast metal is in general much weaker as forged / processed / hammered metal.
Not to mention, cast metal is a lot heavier as well.
π€ Perhaps that's why no-one can lift Mjolnir.....
how much ancient bark do you realistically need? Because I have over 3 stacks of it now
Enough for two Longboats. And perhaps the Ancient Spear and all its upgrades.
I think it's used later for the bonfire, but not certain about that.
Perhaps someone else can confirm?
what's the use of having two longships rather than one
I guess the upgrade process is what forges/hammers it but even then only the power of frost goes up and not blunt or spirit
Having extra mats to craft a longboat easily is useful for when you are exploring and need to transport a lot of ore
In case something goes wrong and your longship is out where you don't have a portal, you can sail to that spot, demolish one of the longships and sail home with the other one.
A Karve would work too, but you won't be able to bring much with you.
Since all the mats used to craft a longboat can be moved through a portal
An example would be moving all the metal from your old base to your new one but the longship is already at the new base and you donβt want to waste time breaking it apart
maybe I should upgrade to a longship. if nothing else the extra hp would make me feel safer
I think you'd like the upgrade from 4 cargo slots to 18 cargoslots a lot more. π
That and the extra speed.
Karve is still great for exploring coastlines and rivers though
Longship sucks for bf and plains coastlines tbh especially bf
You gotta be like where your fog of war radius just sees the island
do dverger respawn? I just had a group of them die helping me fight a 2 star soldier
They have a chance of spawning in the mistlands
No, they won't. Once they're gone, they're gone
rip
is there any way to co op in creative on valheim
Rogues do spawn normally in the Mistlands, dont they?
Just not necessarily in or near towers
They spawn in Dvergr towers for sure, but they can also spawn in wilds and near the big wisp lanterns.
hello im new to valheim can anyone help me to get hd textures i installed the mod but cant figure out to let it work
https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202934289898151966 or https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202550198174486599 would be better channels to ask.
Bro how are we supposed to go to valhalla if odin keeps adding content π
okay thanks
Make your own valhalla in valheim of course.
True man, this already IS Valhalla
I'm too invested already. I've built too much shit :KEKW:
it is excessively cruel that nekks and greydwarfs can attack my ship while I'm carting my stuff from my base to my ship

Just sail over them.
It'll give them a severe headache.
the iron pickaxe is basically required right?
basically yes, but silver is technically skippable
skipping it seems like a bad idea
Does anyone else try to mine away the entire skull and save the brain for last?
lol i'm lazy and do the exact opposite--go in through the top/nose, hollow out the whole brain, and just mark it for if I want to come back later for more black marble
i go through the mouth if possible and leave the skull intact - that way it makes a perfect portal outpost since the only thing capable of damaging it are seeker soldiers
i just opened this chat so, huh?
There's petrified skulls in Mistlands. If you mine an opening in them, you will find an ingredient for Eitr.
do people really mine the giants for black marble?
i did when i was building a giant black marble castle. I ALSO dismantled any dvergr structures i found of course, but i needed every bit i could get.
Well, considering you need the inner parts of the skull anyway, why not?
like the entirety of the skull?
waste of time since you get several stacks by taking apart even a small dvergr outpost with the stonecutter
ah okay
True but also you can harvest it like a silver vein
So?
Why would I want to break down every building I encounter.
The only Black Marble I need is for an area for the Eitr refinery and for the several work benches.
I don't need to collect 50K of Black Marble for that. 2-3 skulls is enough for me.
So destroying a Dverger building is actually a waste of time for me.
Destroying a dvergr building takes like, 2 mins at max tho
If you only need enough for the basics you can dismantle one of those uninhabited ruins near the shore the moment you actually land in Mistlands. No need to find a skull
If that. Slap down stonecutter, delete bottom parts, go take a smoke break
And mining skulls give you pickaxe skill.
This game doesn't have one set path. I wish people remember this for a change instead of telling others that their way isn't right because this is a lot faster.
I enjoy the mining aspect of this game, so let me do that.
If others like to wreck buildings, so I let them do that.
But don't tell me I'm doing things wrong, because I'm not.
I never once said it was wrong
Dude, i'm not telling you to not mine skulls. I'm just pointing out why i and some other people generally don't.
No, it was implied by someone else
And neither did zock
He wasn't? This kinda looks a lot to it, though:
But I asked for your reasons and I got them, thanks for allowing me to see your thought process
Pickaxe skill wasn't something I considered
At that point in the game the pickaxe skill won't matter much as the black metal pickaxe smashes a lot in 1-2 hits. But even then, having a good skill of it makes it easier too.
it'd be interesting to test which skill breakpoints actually make a difference for flametal since mining speed actually matters there.
most of the time when i'm in the mistlands i have pickaxe 90+ but I also recognize that most players don't have that
The char I got that made it to Ashlands got 68. And it's actually his highest skill, other than bloodmagic and that one I don't want to grind again.
Pickaxe is a lot more fun to grind. π
I have to make a confession: I'm setting my death penalty to casual π
Which area are you in?
my current run has run at 100, jump at 89 and pickaxe somewhere in the high 60's iirc. After just beating Yag (though i did some biome skipping before that so i'm basically "before Queen but mostly done with ML" now)
tbh I just enjoy the idea of keeping the gear I have when I die. There is hardly anymore more frustrating than having to make a new set of armor just in case you die somewhere you can't get to easily
I also have severe ptsd from deathsquitos so that's that
naked corpse runs were actually the most exciting fun i've had in this game
it's fine if that's not your thing but i both miss and don't miss those
These days i just don't die much anymore. Guess a couple hundred hours practice do pay off.
Well that and Ashlands PTB day 1, that was awesome.
What kind of gear are you using?
Right now?
I miss the ashlands ptb man
None at all. I'm planning to start a new playthrough tomorrow, lul
So far for not crafting new armor, eh? π
Indeed!
Right. Wisplights make great "lanterns" to show you where to sail. π
Instructions unclear. Got chucked by a Troll.

Lookibg at this i realize the island shapes and positions are identical to mine in my randomly generated world, except the biomes are slightly different. What. How- do continents tend to repeat across worlds?
Yeah, all worlds are pieces of one "master map"
Huh. Hm. So its just puzzle pieces in a puzzle?
Are biome locations premade or is that a seperate actually generated thing?
I guess i already know how the island in the west looks like for me too then.
sorry guys i generate the biomes
Biomes can be shuffled around a bit, not really sure how exactly it works
btw, winter posted the map here if you want to look at it #valheim-chat message
I think i just found my home island. This is how truman felt like.
My whole viking life is a lie, nothing is real and its all scripted
Yep its 100%, the most explored island i have is exactly middle-slightly-southwest
Long mountain range, 3 lakes. Well 1 lake and 2 lagoons
I wonder to be honest. if 1.0 comes out, can we keep our current maps or do we need to make a new map to for the deep north?
Upgrade world mod. Im not gonna explore deep north just incase tho
I would say it will be the same as with ashlands π (and all previous updates) if you dont go near deep north you will be fine
Entirely unnecessary if you dont go there
i'd say in the mistlands update that mod would even shoot you in the foot
As most mods do eventualy XD
post-ML worlds have more mistlands landmass, but that's actually a bad thing because the poi totals between post and pre ML worlds are the same, so old worlds have the same amount of mistlands pois but spread across a smaller percentage of the world, making them easier to find
so as long as you don't go for the deep north in your playthrough, the map will be fine, ye?
Yep π
yepp
ngl finding mistlands with suitable landmass to spawn several mines can be a big chore
not really, just explore east/west
Or south, as that won't change anyway.
Well you don't wanna go south because that's were the ashlands is, and it takes up mistlands area
The best chances to get really big mistlands are in East and West, but the South or North arent bad by any means π (tho you want to avoid north until deep north probably π )
There's still plenty of Mistlands to be explored in the south.
I also brought it up because we have Ashlands now, so no need to discover something that won't generate right after the DN upgrade.
The probability of getting a large mistlands is greater if you head east/west tho
Gezzz, are you the new Derek or something?
Please don't insult me like that π
Then stop being the "annoying know it all."
My my, so much drama here today πΏ
dude just came out swingin lmao

Most of what you said was factualy correct, but the tone of "thats the only way to do it" was not well recieved π
which i'm sure was not intended xvx
45 minutes ago I made a comment about letting people play the game the way they like it.
I only bring up that the South got plenty of Mistlands too and what happens; again someone keeps insisting on going to East and West only.
And obviously without having read the comment I made well enough to actually understand what was meant.
I've blocked one person earlier today because I was fed up with his behaviour. Please don't make me block another one.
Yeah, i sometimes also type something like that while not intending to do so π
this is surely just a misunderstanding, you both made good points and scales isn't wrong in saying that the chances are greater if you go east or west
south's great too now that you know where to stop and have no pre-generation to worry about, but you'll still run out of south mistlands sooner than east and west mistlands
Shame hares aren't agressive creatures.
Otherwise a Dverger lantern with a circle of traps around it would work like a charm
lol
i would say rianu is going for that title now
Say whatever you want about Derek, his info is right in 99/100 cases π
His problem is the wording, however.
he's knowledgable, but it's the gift wrapping he gives in the process, and when he's wrong, (and he's not right 99 times out of 100), it's still that same gift wrap
Yeah, you have to get used to it π . When I was new here I almost blocked him since I was really irritated, now I dont have problem with the guy π
Might have exagerated a bit, but i dont remebmer a lot of times when he was wrong. So maybe 9/10 π
I s'pose that 1/10 is when it comes to this game being multiplayer or not? π
It is primarly meant for singleplayer tho π
The co-op option is nice cherry on top, no doubt about that π
nah, this game is multiplayer, and even their own dev vidoes show them in multiplayer most of the time playing with each other
#general message π
The way I see it, is that this game is basically doing the same thing as LiF:YO.
Single player with the ability to play it with friends in a co-op game. Which means it's limited multiplayer.
But for some multiplayer means going online on another server only.
Which means, this game - with its prime focus at single play - doesn't have multiplayer.
Has anyone used a vps for Valheim that works?
it's singleplayer too, but it's just as much multiplayer anymore
Cool! Wisptorches still give light in the Meadow / BF fog. But they won't clear it, like they clear the mist.
I personally would be in the group 1 i feel
Well, the fog in BF and meadows are antirely different to the mistlands mist clouds π
Be careful you might be called the annoying know it all
it's not even limited anymore. there's dedicated servers, and the modding community has developed improved networking, etc
I can take it π wouldnt be the first time
But Thorin is nice, i dont fear that
I'm aware of that. But I just have been setting up some guiding lights in the water from my main base to the exit to ocean. Was still working at it when we had the fog coming, so for a while I was afraid the wisp lights would sort of disappear. But they're still visible. Barely, but still nevertheless.
Dverger lanters do work better, though.
Even imagining it i feel i would love the aesthetic of those in BF π have to try it sometime
I'll take 9/10.
Oh, i see what did you mean by barely XD
The one I take to the aft is actually giving a better impression.
But that'll take another 26 minutes to post, I'm afraid. π¦
I've not tried it, but couldn't you just edit your other post? Not sure if that works for images.
I dont think you can add images while editing the message sadly
Ah, I did wonder. Well, there you go, that's my 1/10.
Nope, doesn't work.
To prevent spamming, I assume.
Which makes sense.
Sorry I'm all out of giftwrap.
Really enjoying coming back to the server and seeing people drag my name through the mud when I wasn't even here, btw.
I do think that feature in default just doesent allow that π
You were gone? π€
You want to sing a Rainbow song now?
we've been saying the same things for years derek, none of this should be new to you
-# Saying this with the risk of being rude... But you have been here for less than a year...
a) different discord account b) a lot of people were kicked from this server when it was "hacked"
Dont understand why people make more accounts tho
ah we're getting close to the anniversary
True true π not even 2 months
that's not really your concern and is a deflection on your statement lol
don't remind me
Which is unfortunate though, I was much longer there before the hack and removed myself just in case and now it shows I've been here just from this year...
I mean my profile shows I've been here since 24th of Feb 2024.
But thanks for the pic provided, didn't remember I've been here that long! π
Wow, 203,360th in 2022.
That's what it says. That they were the 203,360th person to join the server.
you're 193,530:th
Cool.
I am so old the channel where all join/leave's didn't record it π
I think i joined in 2022 so i'm somewhere around there too
And out of those, only 43,655 persons are online right now.
Plus some lurkers, I s'pose.
199,162:nd
Why are carrots worth growing?
Better food
To make sure the misthares have something to eat?
For food, both for players and tames.
food is progression as well, so cooking with carrots will be your best option up until you get turnips and onions
How do i get carrots in the first place
@merry pebble the one from the stern: #screenshots message
they'll come in the form of seeds first, in the black forest - white flower looking things
Yup.
And you will have to plant the carrots again to get seeds, so don't use all of them for food.
If you are willing to use the Wiki, it show how many carrots are needed for the two foods in the Black Forest. So make sure you always have 30% of those carrots "reserved" for replanting.
Ig il invest until i feel like i have enough
When was valheim taken from game pass?
End of September, early October, I think it was.
19/9 someone mentioned valheim leaving game pass
Wrong server?
I just checked for you.
The two Black Forest foods with Carrots will need a total of 4 carrots.
Each carrot gives you 3 seeds, so when planting 12 seeds, then using 4 carrots for seed carrots and the other 8 for food you will be doing fine. (or a multiple of that)
Later you will require 9 carrots for a food that's in the Black Forest Feast, so you may want to build up a small supply of carrots.
Also, you can use carrots to feed your boars - if you have them - too. So growing more than 12 is advised. But not required.
Ty, but Can i not just eat carrots?
They are not nearly as good food as the stuff you make from them
You most likely can, but I won't do it. I think even the Raspberries, mushroom and honey give you better stats.
Do i need some workbench attachments to make better food with carrots?
Also do those foods stack in inventory
You will need a cauldron over a campfire to cook food.
And yes, they stack. 10 of each food.
Honey yes, berries and mushrooms no π
I have that but i only daw berries and blueberries recipes
also cooked food usually lasts longer
Mayeb i need to hold a carrot tho for the recipe
yes
well, I just learned quite a lesson.... trying to explore the coast of a swamp at night is stupid
and probably a upgrade part of the cauldron π
Anybody wanna play vanilla with me?
#1024264966712340510 π
Not in the Black Forest, though. The upgrade comes with the next biome. π
cauldron upgrade is always the first thing i go for in a new biome
yup food is the most important thing
also means you don't have to go back to earlier biomes to farm food mats... or at least not as often
Just do like a lot of players do.
Collect 200 of each food type and then wonder why the heck you got so much food items you never are going to use anyway.......
So thank Odin for Feasts. They're a great way to finally getting rid of all those berries, cooked boar meat, cooked deer meat and all the other things we don't need when we made it to Ashlands. π
my toxic trait is never using potions because "i might need them later" π
Mine is using potions because I hit the wrong hotkey. So I won't be able to use the potion the moment I do need it.
6 stacks of both minor stamina and health meads while progressing endgame
i actually do have a half-barrel of every food mat up to Mistlands...
but the berries are just stuff i picked up while exploring, it's not like i deliberately farmed any of it. I just can't leave loot behind.
I settled down at an island having 5 Raspberry bushes. So even if I need meadows food, that's the only berry I don't have to leave my home base for.
I actually never make those π so i come around them for the first time in mistlands as a loot from infested mines XD
My guilty shame too, which is why I don't put any meads to hotkeys.
I mean, those Minor meads are usually from chests in Infested mines I can't leave behind..
Yeah, i dont need them. But what if... xD
I thought putting tools between the meads and the weapons may help.
It doesn't......
I put them in slots i usually have axe and cultivator in when i actually want to use them, but then i dont, and i dont switch them back until i accidentally drink one while wanting to chop or plant something π
uhm.... do boats sometimes just spawn on the coast of the swamp?
Eh... no? Not as far as i know, they should be mountains exclusive mob. (I dont count raids as those despawn)
BOATS not bats....π€¦ββοΈ
like broken boats?
I just lost a boat off the coast of the swamp, a wraith RUINED me and my boat, and on my run back I found a boat
Did he actually destroy the boat or just kill you? Enemies aren't active when you're not in the area and wraiths respawn at dawn so he wouldn't have destroyed it after you died.
In coasts of black forest, swamps and plains there can be found ruined boats usually with a treasure chest underground.
well technically I destroyed the boat while attacking the wraith
no it's literally a karve that I can sail
Ah, I was writing and didn't look out for other responses.
There's several "breaking" animations as the boats hp get lower, did you perhaps mistake one of those for it breaking?
I don't know..... also where tf is my gear??? I died on the ocean, isn't my gravestone supposed to float?
because a karve has 500hp iirc, it takes a while to hack through that deliberately even with an axe which they're weak against
ocean grave should float, yes
Yep it is... But looking at the situation, broken boat that was suposedly destroyed is again there, it might be some sort of rollback
rollback?
but my entire hot bar was on my corpse
even if you ALT+F4. the game saves on exit
it doesn't if your PC crashes though
I think i saw a few times people saying that the world rolled back and they lost some stuff, never happened to me peronally tho π€·ββοΈ
yeah
you can roll the world back yourself by restoring one of the backups
they can lose stuff if thet restore the character
Yay! I just had the "You don't need leather scarps, but here you got a lot by airmail" event. It didn't kill all my wolves, but the wolves did destroy the home of one of my BeyoncΓ© 's
starting to freak out here. I spent hours grinding for that gear
