@pliant hatch goated name
no shot people actually make bronze armor
Would be nice to have something like Seaserpent scale chest armor and pants, a serpent trophy helmet and a cape made of fish-leather.
Of course, the major damage you will do with that armor is most likely poison due to the smell, but who cares.
Why wouldnt they? Its quite good looking. 🙂
I have heard of many people mixing armors. Does that work well?
no wonder everytime a major update gets released it gets nerfed lol
Mostly for looks I imagine
yeah a lot of people swear by it, mainly to optimize for damage resistances
there's a chest piece that provides a flat % reduction to piercing damage type which punches way above its 'weight'--usually people mix in the strongest possible helmet from the 'heavy' set (i.e. the latest biome they have access to's heavy set helmet) because helmets uniquely don't have the speed nerf so there's no 'trade-off' between higher armor and speed reduction as is the case for the other pieces in the 'heavy' version of armor for a given biome (which, not every biome has, but the model of at least 2, one heavy one light, followed by most of the biomes)
Need me some wolf armor so I can feel like Jon Snow in the north
make me a nice winter castle lol
Food is the most important stat in the game by whatever measuring distance you prefer to use.
Armor is not as important.
Do I not need certain armor to avoid freezing tick damage?
Wolf cape would be enough
Wolf cape it is then 😄
Need? No.
It sure saves you on mead costs though.
Until that it's using the Frost Mead.
If you build a shelter up there, I assume the obvious answer is yes, but does that also protect from freezing?
Havent been able to live long enough up there to test it
A simple two piece 2m wooden wall with a roof over it and a campfire is already enough as a shelter.
But it won't protect you well when you're under attack by wolves.
A better solution is to use the various ruins you find in the mountains as a shelter as it's easier to create an enclosed area and add a roof to it.
Or even a portal, if you want a spot to enter / return to that biome more easily.
Also, if not mistaken you can still build campfires in Frost Caves.
So if you happen to run into one of those, building a campfire there offers great protection against the cold.
But you may have to deal with some nasty monsters in there, though.
No.
Hello, I have a problem with the Outsiders mod, I can't create a game with this mod and play with my friends, is there a way to fix it?
Try #mods-issues 😄
How do I spawn the queen or seeker soldier trophy?
I can't seem to find it in the I'd menue
"spawn SeekerQueen" or "spawn TrophySeekerBrute"
When you breed 1 star animals, can you breed them again with their off offspring? Not in a weird way lol but one of the originals I started with had no stars and I want to ensure 1 stars always. Eventually 2 star.
Yes
You can't have starred breeds if you don't have starred tames
I’m saying I had 1 star tame and another that was 0 star tame. If I have an offspring that ends up being another 1 star, can I kill off that 0 star parent and breed only the 1 stars to ensure 1 star every time,
yes
Perfect
Yes. Killing off the 0 star is a good thing to do. Otherwise you will end up with keeping to kill them off for the resources anyway.
And once you got your 2 star, you can do the same thing again with those 1 stars you keep having.
Just a piece of advice, make sure your boars are in a safe, enclosed - including above - area.
yes, ALWAYS keep a breeding pair of starred tames tucked away somewhere safe
Will parrying level my block skill?
Yep, with x1,5 the xp normal block gives
quite a hard skill to rise up I noticed though
Stay rested. Otherwise skill gain goes way down
I try to often, but I remember staying up a good dozen minute just parrying skeletons and wildbrutes on repeat, but got only a few levels to 10-15
My block seems pretty low even though I parry all the time. I might slap together a tower shield and go hang out at a greydwarf spawner for awhile
Have a fire and ceiling where you farm skill 😉
I play on vhard nowadays, so blocking rarely an option
So dash is your best friend?
I frames but stam hog
Against any attack with a small enough hitbox, jumping is better than rolling
Very hard also makes monsters bigger 😕
You can jump over/through attacks? Can't be intended
I'd very much prefer the reliability of a dodge tbh
I'm not gambling my life over sketchy hitboxes lol
Jumping in absolutely a good idea, just mob/situation depending
Over, not through
And absolutely intended, otherwise why do we get jump buffs in mistlands?
In many cases you can bait an attack and dash back in for a little dps.
can anyone tell how to repair thinghs like the pirmal bererki axe?
Like all items, they’re repaired at the station they’re made at with the minimum level shown in their stats
Til: Jumping as a combat strat. Ty
Jump attacking allows you to keep full horizontal speed (instead of slowing down like on ground) and can keep you safe from attacks while dealing damage
Most attacks are jumpable with enough jump skill (usually not much is needed), and past mistlands, lightfoot mead can help

Some attack hitboxes are surprisingly small, morgen swipes are only 2.4m up.
But most are pretty accurate to the animation
By keeping you safe, do you mean no damage is dealt?
Or no damage is taken i mean?
You time the jump and attack so you dodge the attack and land a hit much faster than rolling through and starting an attack
No damage taken
For timing the attack, aim to have it hit the top of the enemy so you’re spending minimal time on the ground while in the attack animation
Ok, will practice that out. Thanks again
@wooden totem #mods-screenshots message
Are these krumpac armors/shields?
It's a yes or no question. Not a discussion.
It's still the correct channel.
Where do you guys draw the line from early - mid - endgame ? Coz I’m thinking early game as meadows-swamp, mid as mountain-plains and endgame as mistlands-Ashland’s currently but I’m not sure if with the introduction of deep north id move mistlands down to mid game
I personally am completly disregarding oceans in that, as i think of them just as a "highway" between the biomes, but i view it basically as first 3 biomes=early game, 4,5,6= mid game and 7,8=endgame (when all of them are released ofc)
same
Yeah I see oceans as a biome inbetween bf and swamp
Same.
what you gonna do in the ocean with a dinky raft lol
So 3, 3 and 3 for me.
I think 1-3 is early, 4-6 is mid, then 7-8 is end game.
Could also be an option, swamp is, after all, a bit of a spike in difficulty, that would be coresponding nicely with the start of mid-game
See the thing about mistlands is it’s in an awkward spot and unlocks all the endgame content, as far as I’m aware they aren’t going to make another tier of crafting stations for deep north it doesn’t seem likely and with it being at the edge of the world east and west it feels very much endgame
mistlands feels 'end game' to me
But then the deep north and Ashland’s are the huge archipelagos south and north being distinct from the rest of the world gen
there is that true
vibes of it for me are early = meadows & bf; middle = swamp, mountains, plains; end = mistlands, ashlands, and deep north
With how much is locked behind Moder, I consider the first four biomes to be early game and the final four are end game
There are 9 biomes though.
There’s that too
huh I'm not on the second boss yet and I've gone there exploring, I even found a ||dragon egg|| although idk what it's used for. Too scared to enter the cave though since it gave me a warning xD
mmmmm 8.5 biomes
Ocean isn’t in progression. Serpents have appropriate stats to be fought with black forest equipment.
the wolves hit hard but you can parry them
Come back when you have killed the second and third bosses
Ocean gives you stuff at the swamp lvl basically, so it should technicaly be put between swamp and BF 🙂
I mean it’s plains - mistlands tier food
should prob do that, I thought eikthyr was like the last thing you wanted to do on the first island so I went around making a base in the black forest and had a maxed out troll set before I fought them, was scared it'd still oneshot me only for the boss to deal like 3 damage to me when I missed the parry window XD
i think we can ALL agree Ocean all over the place
You’re supposed to kill a biome’s boss before progressing to the next one. Eikthyr is weaker than a troll
the food is unlocked with swamp tier gear tho considering you need iron
Yeah I kinda noticed that xD
I've explored the swamp and partially the plains as well, I can't enter the swamp dungeons without killing the second boss though IIRC, so I'll prob do that tomorrow
still a bit scared to get close to those big ass buffalos, but one of the NPC's I met had tamed one so maybe I can do the same thing. I've also seen tamed greydwarves though sooooo...
I'll just sic my friend at them and see what happens
lol
Tell him they’re friendly
I will
their first instinct when they saw one was to attempt to shoot them which made me freak out lmao
they'd prob walk over and destroy the portal and everything
we're still on the second bow
Tameable greydwarfs to do housework like filling up smelters with coal and coal makers with wood would be nice lol
What’s the word for coal makers again
lol, that'd be a hilarious image
I wish I could plant shrooms and berries and crap in my home
my entire map is just completely wrecked with pointers
In your example, slaves.
they want a mix of stuff you can farm and stuff you have to gather--I think it's better that way
Yo guys hello is there any chance for valheim to go to 5 euro discount cuz i been trying to buy it for over a year and it never did
that's fair, my only real issue is that my map just has too many pointers now lol
no no you see they get paid in resin that I collected from their friends
Is there like a toggle for them
Right click.
doesn't that remove them
Right click on the bottom right
he means on the legend
ooh
Alr sorry for asking
yeah not the markers themselves, their "master icon" toggles ALL such icons on/off
5 OFF or down TO 5--because I know there was like a half off sale
That would be more than 5 Euro.
I guess I could see it happening in countries with lower income
Down to 5 cuz right now its 10
Yeah I read it as down to 5 euro
I don't think it's gone down to 5 ever, probably not super likely
Down to 5? Lol. No chance.
Brother do you have PayPal? How much is the game rn in euros @shadow socket
Ahh alr sorry guys i really was hoping so cux my cousing is giving me a 5 euro steam code for christmas
OH DAMN I CAN RIGHT CLICK THE ICONS THEMSELVES TO TOGGLE THEM
Yesss
Its 10 euro
I can gift you the 5 to bring you up to 10
Nah bro dw i dont wanna take advantage of anyone
this is so wholesome
Well the offers there dude
If you can’t figure out a way to get it before the sale is off let me know
Yea thanks man but i dont wanna waste ur money i can just wait for another sale
btw what is the middle icon for that kinda looks like an upside down anchor
Structures?
lol, it's a hammer that a significant portion of us (myself included) initially thought looked more like an anchor
Wait @tiny tiger i have some csgo skins can i use them to buy the game?
Idk how much they are worth thougj
I’ve never played csgo i have no idea
i use it for "fighty" POIs (dungeons, etc.) and, a remnant from when i thought it was an anchor, marking where I left my boats
Ohh alr then bye guys sorry for disturbing u
you can sell them on the steam market and buy games with them, yes
most are worthless tho
I've bought stuff like bloons with the money I got from it though xD
@runic spoke cab i show you what skins i have i dont know what to do with them but my friend told me i can sell them
guys
But idk how
idk what the skin market looks like so I can't really help you with that
there are some way to recall a tame after navigating in the ocean? or I lost it forever?
I swear I said that.
You did but I didn't understand what you meant
booted up the game and then I got it
What tame is it
a viking
Vikings are people.
Mods?
Ugh.
you could harpoon them and Drąg them maybe?
he'll keep swimming forever until you find him or something kills him.
i have a wolf swimming forever in the ocean, part of a group that i sailed to a different base.
i still pass him occasionally
If set to follow can they swim and follow your boat?
@tiny tiger i sent u a dm
Yes, it should.
Does anyone know when the steam sale ends?
Valve maybe?
Does anyone have gabes number?
Let’s hope it’s still on tomorrow then good night guys
Google tells me 2nd January.
the front of the steam store page tells me 2nd of january
Thank you, for some reason it’s everywhere but where I looked, the mobile website version of the buy valheim page
oooOOoooo theres a few good things on that i want to get.......i often ignore anything that isn't atleast 50% off
Ugh, it's 2024 and people still can't build proper mobile friendly pages.
Rah
GRMBL. 26 bloody hours to find Onion Seeds on my current map.
Out of the 90-ish or so hours it took to get to the current point. Which is including the building and everything else.
And people complain the Yagluth vesigvirs are hard to find.. 😠
The only good news, I found two stacks so at least I got 11 onion seeds now. Which within 5-6 game days I'm finally able to cook mountain tier food.
found onion seeds first time on the mountain. Vesigvir took 3 days and like 4 different plain areas to find him.
when is the north pole update coming out
When it's done
Is it a pole on a flat world?
wadup
Nuttin. Egg.
last time i was here i posted a few age of empires themed builds
wow that really helps
No timeframe but anything in 2025 is a bit ambitious thinking
It's the only answer you can expect to get
If we knew, then i feel like there would be more excited chatter about it.
I don't understand why people keep thinking devs would deliver big news exclusively for discord rather than doing so for the entire community or most of it
It would be posted on the signs and mailed to homes when a release date for valheim is announced
when something as substantial as 1.0 is in the picture i don't think its secretive, if you pay even a little attention to the game valheim and its updates you'll see it either announced on steam, youtube, twitter, reddit, google search, ya know.
also why is someone thats muted and deafened livestreaming rn
why is being deafened as a punishment something that exists
No idea, presumably misbehaving in voice chat.
not allowed to hear other people 🤣
got lucky and found a 2 star boar on day 1
You.
steam has made developers of smaller games so fucking lazy with advertising, i wouldn't be surprised if there's some random half assed ad on page 82 of the new york times that's like 2cm tall
That's usually because they have no money to really advertise, but Valheim devs prob have some ad money tucked away for when they do need to advertise it near release
I really hope to see a resurgence like same levels as early access release if not more
Seems like Americans don’t really play the game? I feel chat would be a lot more lively during these hours if it was the case
I wonder how the demographics of the game look
Am American, spend most nights on Valheim
I know im not representative of anything, but I bought valheim on a whim a while ago and i found out that many of my friends already play it. And I see many american youtubers playing it. I would imagine that at least a fair few americans play it, but I would also be interested in seeing the demographics of this game. I wouldn't be surprised if this game was more popular in europe or elsewhere
If anything I don’t believe this game is too popular with people under the age of 20, atleast not like with people over that age, it’s too slow paced compared to other games available to play for people in that age range
i think that is quite the assumption, considering how popular minecraft was and is
another survival game with a pretty slow pace
Sorry for not seeing it, but where in the Valheim Blocking sheet can a shield be entered? I see all the valid inputs, but all the cells above the arrow (that I thought indicated where to list them) seem protected, do I need to make another copy of it or something?
It certainly is a pretty big assumption but I also don’t see married couples on their 40’s and above playing minecraft, and valheim is like wayyyyy more of a slow burn than minecraft is
Obviously I’m sure there is but it’s probably a lot lower of a % of the player base in contrast to valheim
that's fair
Should be the cell right below block skill? If memories serves, all 3 of the input boxes are right next to each other.
If you are on mobile I don't know what to tell you.
It's a more complex game than minecraft and requires more patience. It's definitely not a game a 7 year old could play and enjoy that much (without their parents help) unlike minecraft.
It's also way better
Better is subjective.
Mistlands onwards is more complex than minecraft, but there's plenty of complexity to current minecraft 😄
and just wait until you get into redstone builds... much more complex than anything valheim could ever want to go for
i am willing to die on this hill; as someone who grew up playing minecraft, it is a seriously flawed game in a way valheim simply is not.
A game with valheim mechanics but Minecraft’s world interactability would be my dream game tbh
try out TerrafirmaGreg
It was to the left of difficulty, but they are all together, I thought I tried there the first time, but maybe it was just a misclick. Thanks, though
Vintagestory i heard is also pretty good in terms of story/mechanics
Capitalization matters in that box.
redstone stuff is really awesome and quite complex, when i played minecraft I would always fiddle with it. But it's a dead end, redstone isn't necessary except and its only purpose is to build cosmetically cool stuff (like walls that open and close) or stuff that no one would do in survival like building a calculator in minecraft
minecraft's progression is quite whack
I didn't know that, but I copied one of the provided inputs just to be safe
👍
that's not really how redstone works, you can use it for mob farms (infinite lava/copper/iron/gunpowder/clay/more) and you can use it for plenty of fun stuff like games within the game, cool doors, storage units, etc
redstone isn't a dead end, it's basically the beginning of the end game for projects
well, I havent played regularly in a long time, but I dont recall most mob farms requiring redstone besides the most basic stuff. And no matter how fancy your redstone storage unit is, it will never be as efficient as just having a bunch of chests. Redstone is mostly only useful for cosmetics
but who knows maybe my understanding is completely outdated
you definitely haven't played in a while then 😄
You can do basically almost anything with red stone
yah, it's ridiculously impressive how so few actual components, can be built into ridiculously complex structures
fair enough i havent played it regularly for like 10 years
maybe things have changed
Even so I still think that over all my points of minecraft having bad progression and being a worse game than valheim is true, redstone was just a bad example
and it still has a lot of items that are almost completely useless, like copper blocks or those shells you get from the ocean
like oh cool they added honey blocks and bees to the game and dolphins, cool. But what do they actually add to the game? In valheim every creature has a pretty useful purpose
you're using examples that other people do find useful
ok explain to me how those items are useful, and if i'm wrong i'll eat my words
and "making a building look pretty" is not a valid answer
conduits are incredibly cool, which are what those shells are used for
Adding more ways for the player to express their creativity is a valid reason
copper blocks are a more efficient way to store copper ingots
it seems I did not know what those things are, I should probably stop talking before I make myself look even more stupid
that's hardly a use
copper also can be used for lamps, which is another component for redstone
Not everything in the game has to serve the purpose of being somewhere in the progression, minecraft does a brilliant job of having several branches of progression that make the game more enjoyable
since when do lamps need copper
since you haven't played in a while, you clearly should just step back and listen to people who have 😄
lamps do not need copper though
there are new lamps
There are copper lamps
just shhhh
ok, valheim is still way better though
that's your opinions, cool
way better for you sure but not for everyone, I do find valheim more enjoyable too but I also grew up on minecraft and the magic is mostly gone now
valheim will never lose its magic to me
valheim is great in small chunks for me - but in minecraft, i can play the base game, and then go slay magical monsters with fire and magic in Prominence
Valheim is the perfect game for a 1-3 hour session after work I find
also, TerrafirmaGreg is like playing a separate game on its own
from the gravity blocks, to smelting, clay pots/knapping, to forging your tools by hand, it's pretty sick - if you like valheim, terrafirmagreg is a cool experience
valheim is the only game to make me play for like 30 hours straight, no sleep
only one other game got me close to that
and it wasn't minecraft
Yeah it can certainly be quite addictive it’s important to take breaks
I will farm 50000 barley you cannot stop me
YOU WILL NOT TAKE HER FROM ME
that's fine, you're giving opinions on what games you like, but when you start saying that minecraft isn't complex, that's where your opinion starts to turn into a misinformed take
well, when I played minecraft it wasn't very complex besides a few specific mechanics like redstone. And I still think the progression sucks, though they also did more stuff to fix that too, but not enough. Microsoft has not made the game better
simplicity can also be a good thing, dont get me wrong
a game is not better just because it's more complex, but i feel like minecraft/microsfot hasnt done it right
when you look at valheim... you start to see that you just repeat the same processes every biome 🙂
yes, but with new things introduced in many of them, thus making its complexity and progression seamless
it builds on itself
no, it just repeats itself 😄
whatever you say
that's until you get to mistlands anyway, i'd say that was a pretty good step in the right direction, though not everyone's cup of tea
well you can be as misinformed as you want i guess
if you think the black forest is the exact same as the swamp which is the exact same as mountains which is the exact same as plains etc. then you have not been playing the same valheim as me
The core loop is certainly solidified in the Black Forest - mountain stage of the game but after that the game starts to open up more
The core loop for that stage of the game being being beat boss, mine ore for next upgrades, get better food and beat next boss
Plains is a nice change of pace with its gorgeous scenery and no dungeons
yah, and i think the plains is the least complex/easiest to progress from, most people skip plains armor and weapons anymore - you just need the axe and some bm to make the new machines
yall think i should make a completely new world from scratch
What’s wrong with your current world
nothing really but my world is from day one and for some reason a certain part of my map is like glitched out which is kinda close to my main house
the masses aren't known for their wisdom
yeah, lots of updates and world changes will do that, but sometimes those glitches can look really cool, like on one reddit post it created floating islands. What glitches inflict your world
haha the floating islands
Damn you need to link me the floating islands what
lmao they are hard to get to basically
so then is that a no on me lol
so your map has the floating islands too?
yes ahah
ohhh, that's awesome. I mean, you can create a new world, but I would love to have such a world
I'm sure you can find a way to build up to them, surely a combination of terrain raising with the hoe, iron pillars, and stone could get you there
oooh i see what you mean
you must build the tower of babel and reach the heavens!
surely nothing bad will happen from this
haha ok i trust you thanks!
let me know if you can reach them. I dont actually know if you can build high enough
did you go to the ashlands at all before the ashlands update, when it was just nothing but sirtlings and emptiness?
i did go to one area but the rest loaded
that must be interesting
just basic ash lands
do sirtlings still spawn there?
i think so its the old like spawns and i have that old metal
that's very interesting indeed. rare hidden gem. Do not delete that world
make a new world if you must but your old world sounds awesome
haha i wont delete it just thought id start fresh but i guess with 1.0 well see what happens
i would start fresh and just avoid the deep north, I plan on making a new world just because i want something fresh and a new seed, among other things
yeah thats what im looking for too a new seed
:0 how so
Boys
Hey, is the skill system a common topic of conversation? I don't interact with the Discord much, but I feel as though the skill system is pretty lackluster at what it wants to do and I feel like it could either be improved to cater to character builds/ progression or I feel like it's not needed at all. I don't think a skill tree would suit the game but it feels more like an archaic feature to be 'RPG-like' rather than an integrated system. Lmk if it's common topic of discussion
It is, search the #suggestion-discussion channel if you are interested in previous discussions
the odin horse and horse cart pisses me off
like the horse literally runs to knows what when an enemy appears but when its untamed it wont stop following you till u die and its control is weird but i need the mod
Thanks!
Morgen gjall.
Game isn't an RPG, system is fine.
I can report one married couple above 40s (with the wife steaming and youtubing that game too) but for sure i do not have statistics about how many of us do play 😄
I s'pose you've never played Wurm Online. Or even heard of it. Lots of 40-50+ married couples playing that game. And it's even harder as Valheim or Minecraft - which was done by one of the former Wurm Online Devs - ever will be.
i am 19 😤
"...I don’t believe this game is too popular with people under the age of 20, atleast not like with people over that age..."
You understand that doesent in any way exclude people of other ages right?
Tho i dont really agree with that statement
Seeing the comments, I can only think they were made to kick some shins or something.
Lots of made assumptions, all based upon........ I dunno? Wind direction or something.
I assume the comments were only made to stir up the chat.
Oh i didnt read all of that as it looked exactly like that at quick glance 😄
At least I'm still happy with the "lucky streak" I got in my last two game plays.
First I got onion seeds from chests in the last two buildings I had in this mountain area. And not a little bit, but a stack of 4 and a stack of 7. "Only" took me 26 hours in the mountains to find those. Well, a bit less as I went looking for the Bog Witch and killed Brenna in between as well. But still.... Longest time for me to find Onion Seeds. Even Turnips were found faster.
Then, at the end of my session I got a night spawn 2-star wolf attacking me, right after I had finished the "wolf trap pit". So dropped in some deer meat, went into hiding and got attacked by another (no-star) wolf. Since I couldn't lure it in the pit, I had to push it in with my shield. Which surprisingly worked for a change (usally fails), so now I had two wolves to be tamed.
Finished the taming today, found a silver vein nearby, so got to mine that and the two star already popped out a cub, so I need to lure that one home. The other two are already there, so it won't be too long before I got the fluffy thingies roaming around my base. 🙂
Only disadvantage, when taking it to my base, the 2-star popped another cub somewhere in the meadows / black forest area. So I guess that one's lost, unless I manage to run into it accidentally.
I had the exact opposite luck with crops XD couldnt find turnips until i was deeply into swamp progress but onions i found in my first chest 😄
Look for dropped deer leftowers 😄
Yeah, the real god of this game is the "Sadistic Number Generator", as it works in mysterious ways.
I will have to take the first cub home along the same way, so I will certainly be on the lookout. Need the deer hide anyway.
I didnt had much luck with traders this playthrough, found Hildir kinda easily but Haldor and the Witch were quite a pain, i think i found Haldor at day 50 or something when normally it doesent take me more than 20-30, and witch... I dont have much of a timeframe since this is the first playthrough i am doing after her update but it also wasnt quick 😄
Currently i am also trying to tame wolves and have a pit ready, but the aforementioned SNG doesent like me much and no starred ones yet xD
I only got lucky because I was heading back from Moder's altar to my main mountain portal and the 2-star spawned in the night. That's why I was able to lure it in the pit. Otherwise I may have to settle with the no-stars instead.
At least one thing is for sure: It'll be a lot easier to find the plants in the Plains. 😄
Oh yes 😄 cant wait for taht, i just need to find some small plains island to make a farm there
o/ good day Valheim
That's something I intend to do as well. Or perhaps turn an island into a base.
But then, it would be nice to have some Mistlands area as well, so I can grow all crops in a single base. But so far I haven't seen an island with both plains and mistlands and not too large to put a base on.
I usually have those farms separated, just portals at each of them, but it would be nice to have them connected 😄
I usually build my Mistlands "farm" on that strip of land near the Queens lair.
That way I can use the area under the stairs as "base" with a portal, without having to worry about creatures destroying everything.
Last game I played I just cultivated a small patch of plains near Hildir and used the portal I have to visit her to access that farm. Worked like a charm.
I thoroughly enjoy making and using island bases. Plains+Mistlands Island is a tall order
Island bases are nice and certainly the easiest to defend. And to build quite nice stuff at it. An island with plains and mistlands on it may be hard to find, but perhaps I am lucky and I may have found one.
Will take some time before I head out there as I got Moder and Yagluth to deal with, but it looks promising for sure. 🙂
i wonder how mist works on a small patch of mistlands. imagine its just big enough to fit crops, would mist spawn there?
the problem with small Mistland islands is that most of them don't have cultivatable soil. You generally need to move a bit inland from the shore for that.
oh right theres like stone ground or whatever that you cant grow on
Yep
imagine u get lucky with ground u can grow on + an ygg vein there
Finding farmable mistland next to plains with an ancient root or two isn't that hard. It's probably the most common biome bordering Mistlands after BF.
It's specifically the "island small enough to spawnproof" bit that's the issue with Mistlands.
Though on the other hand my current Mistland farm does have nearby Gjall spawns (i can hear them) but i've yet to aggro it even once.
The seeker soldier is kept at bay by a simple terrain wall.
The only enemy i've actually had to fight were deathsquitoes and a few seekers.
Or find a plains island that's bordering the Mistlands zone, so you can raise land and build in both biomes.
What I found looks like that, but I will find out over time.
I will find out soon how i will fare playing on hard and then building a base in every biome a big and nice base 😄 I have been wanting to do that for ages 😄
and yes that means building in the Mistlands too 😄
Black marble castle gonna look goated
not really an issue as long as you don't build out of wood. Black marble bases aren't quite immune to gjall, but you'd have to be afk to actually get one destroyed that way.
trying to get out of the comfort zone and doing things i never tried before...we shall see how it goes 😄
honestly the main issue with basing in the Mistlands is that after killing Queen and Fader you only ever get two raids - skeletons and bats.
Well and the Hildir raids if you've unlocked them.
i feel like the worst will be Ashlands--until and unless you campfire spam to achieve total suppression, it's a steady stream of fights with a good mix (as in, from the sky, ranged, the jumping spinning boyo, lava blobs that literally modify terrain and break structures great too, etc.) of enemies that demand your full attention--no building while the annoying grewdwarf horde pelts you with rocks and you only stop to give them attention because you're tired of them knocking off your placement for the umpteenth time
Solution is for sure to either make a most or raise terrain or both
yeah you can manage once you get defenses, you just got a lot of fighting to do UNTIL they're up while GETTING them up
good morning! I am a newbie, how can i play in a server?
On the age discussion I'm 40 and I've been gaming since the gameboy, I play lots of genres and my wife does some gaming as well but not the games I enjoy.
#1024264966712340510 Is the place to find other Valheimians to play with.
There are no public servers only servers that other people have set up, so either make your own or join someone else's.
Also a married gamer. I game with my wife and kids. I play Valheim with the kids. Wife isn't a fan. She's the shooter type. So we kill zombies together lol
looks like quite some married couples 😄
Kinda makes me wonder what I - being a 50+ single person - am doing here.
guess you are playing valheim...we do not judge anybody may play 😄 😛
oi
if i anger one group of dverger do they all become hostile?
I wish I could make several portals go to one portal xD
No, only nearby dvergr
Make a portal hub 😄 that way they go to same place at least
Yeah that’s kinda what I’m doing rn
portal hubs are super convenient
Isn’t a portal hub just a place with a bunch of portals or is there some hidden mechanic I haven’t discovered yet
@runic spoke no that's literally it
it does have one practical purpose you could say, by separating your however many dozens of portals into their own place you minimize the performance impact they would otherwise have in the middle of a base
Yes, as it's usually big building or mined out under the Elder Altar where you put down your portals leading to other biomes, bosses and other points of interest.
However, in a way it's a "no" too, as you won't have all those portals at your main base, but only do with a single portal over there.
And to make it more complicated;
There are players who use a letter or number for their portals and mark those at their map, leaving the portal at their main base as the one they need to rename.
Kinda like having a SP1 for Spawn, for instance, SW1 for the first one in / near the Swamp and so on.
With that they won't need a portal hub, as the portal at their main base basically is the hub.
The main purpose to having everything in one place is that it keeps your running ways short. And not constantly having to rename portals saves time as well.
You don't think it makes much of a difference until you actually try it, but once you do you'll never want to go back imo.
I usually have one Portal per Biome and a pocket portal and boat portal at my main base and one "exit" portal if I need to get home from somewhere not connected
i can not be bothered to build a gazillion portals 😄
i usually carry a stone portal and leave one at my base (before that did same with regular portal), unnamed so it's just 'drop and go'
and the rest I put in a hub, unless it's a high traffic route, then I might leave those in the main base
There's other cool things to do with portals. I like to hide portals in builds. Perhaps in a secret room. Entry disguised by banners or use a chair to slip beyond a wall. I use these as ways to get to portal hubs or treasure rooms tucked under rocks. Handy ideas when playing on servers.
for mistlands you can also hide portals in hollowed-out rocks or even dig out entire tunnel networks through the mountains
mistlands is probably my favorite, it's so strange and beautiful, even though I'm still too scared to stick around after dark
anyone know what good mod is best to play on valheim after finishing it
You might want to ask that in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202934289898151966
Please English only in this channel to make moderation easier / possible.
If you don't speak English, use a translation site.
Tell me more about this, lol. I am just getting into the Plains, but I kind of want to sneak into the Mistlands to try and grab some Jotun Puffs
probably a kiddo trying to be funny ... given what he wrote ::D
It's not hard really. Just hack into the rock spires with your pickaxe a little until you make a small room, put down some flooring and a door and you have your outpost.
Takes a little practice to get a feel for how those rocks break but it's not like mistlands are lacking in practice material.
I made a tunnel for my sapfarm to connect two sets of roots on different sides of a big mountain that way and put the portal inside it.
any idea deep north is out when?
mistlands is the coolest biome by far
We don't know yet, by the end of next year if we're lucky.
and plains is the most relaxed one ...
Unless you're allergic to mosquitoes.....
you can take anti-sting now and be left in peace 😄
I personally like the heavenly vibe of plains, but mistlands just has the coolest mystical vibe, like it really reminds me im playing a fantasy game if that makes sense xd
everything about the mistlands 🤌
with all the cool unique weapons and equipment and the giants remains, the new magic system, the insanely sick gjall sounds that sound out of this world
the lush greenery so beautiful... i hope to find a nice clearing to build a pretty base there
Your eyes trying to see through the mist:
first time hearing a gjall aggro sent some sort of fight or flight reaction
I just wish you could upgrade the wisp to make the mist clearing radius bigger
true
when you do find the clearings tho, it's so beautiful
That's my only complaint about mistlands, other than that it's great
i like that you need to use your ears for once and not only the eyes 😄
I do like the looks of the ashlands too... they are pretty in their unique way... just the spawnrate of them mobs is insane 😄 need a lot more getting used to than I have done since it came out 😄
i am sure once i have learned all the patterns there better i would not be as terrified anymore 😄
haven't gotten to the ashlands, but I'm usually not a fan of lava areas in games like dark souls, elden ring etc
hope ashlands change my mind
I think they did a great job... it just needs to be gotten used to 😄 first time there i could not appreciate the beauty because i was busy dieing a lot 😄
but that was the same for me in the Mistlands ... when i got there first i was very busy recovering corpses all the time 😄
I haven't done that in the mist yet. So many creative things to discover.
do you guys ever create a new char but play on the same world as before?
Yea sometimes on group servers
never did that... new char new world for me always
kinda--i made an 'errand guy' character lol, so when i wanna test things that probably/i expect may get me killed and I don't wanna sacrifice the high skill levels, I got him lol
otherwise more likely to use same character on a NEW world, than new CHARACTER on an old world
The sacrificial naked blade runner ftw
Never had a problem with them tbh they just see you from far away
First time walking into mistlands without wisp, feels like Lox eyesight
Accurate
Im playing on a server with a friend and my drops multiply like crazy for some reason, but it appears that his drops are normal. Any idea why this happens? For example i get 5 trophies from a single enemy and they are all in one stack. Also my friend is using some mods but this problem didnt exist earlier when he already had them.
It would be best if you both remove/disable any mods you are using, they can break the game in many unexpected ways, if that fixes it you can turn them on one by one and that way you will se which one it was
Thx, will try
I try to avoid doing that... i only sneak in sometimes a bit where i can see to get an early pickaxe 😄
yeah it just doesn't seem worth it to me either--and you need like MULTIPLE things in the biome mostly to make use of ANY of the things in it (black core, extractor for sap, the sap itself, the soft tissue, and so on)
unrelated, I saw a clever youtube short which showed someone building a big yule tree by using a core of wood beams arranged in a pyramid for support, then layering yule trees on top--it blended together well and really did look like a big tree at the end
now I kinda want to try that out 😄 would look fab in the woods if there were a big yule tree all of the sudden 😄
Not actually true. Just black marble lone gets you the cauldron upgrade. Just the black forge gets you skoll & hati, the arbalest & krom. Just a dvergr extractor unlocks lingering stamina mead.
Yes, you need refined eitr for the good stuff, but it's not like you get nothing for the pieces you collect on the way there.
mmmm interesting, ok--black core then, if you could find a dungeon, definitely worth it (you'd need that right, or I guess get a seeker soldier to do it for you, to get the pick to break the marble?); i did forgot how many fun weapons unlock with just the black forge + prior mats (or in krom case, you need hare skin i think, one of the easier grabs)
Could a hammer deconstruct it?
Also you can collect decent amounts of soft tissue from dvergr buildings (depends on RNG how many crates spawn, but 15-40 soft tissue per building is about average) so even just sailing around the Mistland coast and clearing out any harbors you find can get you set for your entire run
you can just dismantle any ruin with a stonecutter, yes
I think a hammer + stonecutter could deconstruct the black marble structures good point
actual structures don't need high level tools either
you can destroy dvergr ruins with normal weapons if you're patient
oh yeah, you mean just like thwack em with any pick, or even just waepons?
a stonecutter is just a lot faster
also gives you truckloads of copper scrap and more dvergr extractors than you'll ever need.
I think i'm at 29 now, full mistland gear except Mistwalker and Wisplight because i haven't actually killed Yag yet.
Just sailing around the coast and exploring mist-free ares for dvergr ruins and infested mines.
Any iron in those structures?
the ruined bridges, yes. The normal towers with dvergr in them no.
i think one or both of the armor & swords also drop a mix of iron and copper
a bridge can get you multiple stacks of iron from the iron cage walls giving it stability. It's even already smelted.
Nice, emergency iron notes in case swamps aren't nearby
You can actually grab some iron in pretty much any post-swamp biome.
Mountains: the torches in frost caves drop it sometimes
Plains: sealed towers tend to have a bunch
Mistlands: dvergr bridges and ancient swords
Ashlands: pots in ruined buildings and putrid holes
the devs saw all the meme posts of a longship hold's worth of iron and all the comments are "that's a nice start" too
The doors in mountains also have a chance of dropping iron but it’s not something you wanna rely on really
Yeah, I found mountains to have the least reliable yield for alternative metals
Plains, I didn't know about the metals in sealed towers
They're mostly iron from the grate doors and black metal from the creatures you kill inside.
No copper there.
Omg beat sealed tower finally
Maxed plains gear with frostner and bonemass made light work
Would've been a lot easier if you had used oozebombs as well.
But, contratz, nevertheless
Saving those for infested mines
It was easy enough I didn’t go below 100 health and max was 190, pretty much parry locked the boss
I think next time I’m gonna attempt it without bonemass
What difficulty are you playing
Vanilla, default everything
How long does the 50% sale last still?
thinking of being santa for some peeps but I gotta know
I assume you meant on Steam?
If so, I don't know, but it's most likely on their main store page.
As it usually is.
I believe until January 2
Steam yes
Omg the second chicken spawned on top of the iron fence and got roasted instantly
God damn it now I gotta go kill yagluth and drop 1.5k on a single egg
You can get eggs from the towers right?
Ye
This is really wishful hoping, but I hope chicken eggs and chicken meat get more uses in Deep North 🤔
That’s where I got the two eggs from lol
How many eitr refineries should I build as a solo player?
They take black cores so the question is more "how many CAN you build?". I've never felt the need for more than one though, i just go do something else while eitr is refining.
Just one is plenty imo
Can always run another tower
Good point there is one fairly close to my old base but yagluth is also in that direction so I may as well just bite the bullet and start collecting wisps too while I’m at it, im in no rush to dive into the mistlands yet I’ve been slowly building my base for the past 50 in game days and its gonna take atleast another 30
but a stockpile of wisps for when I do venture would be nice
I found an area that's like a square mile of no mist in the buglands.
What should I do with it
Could it look nice for a base?
how do you guys do make a fire inside the house while on immersive before stone cutter?
2x2 core wood chimney is not working =((
oh wait, it works, nvm...
have the devs ever made any comment about the game coming to consoles?
Uh... it has been on Xbox Game Pass for a good long while...
Although it currently is off game pass, but yes, it is on xbox.
thats not a playstation
They didn't ask about a Playstation.
they didn't ask about xbox either, they said console.
although i am obviously pretty much entirely pc i hate xbox and i own a playstation
And? The correct answer to 'is the game coming to consoles' is 'yes, it's already available on XBox and Steam Deck'. Which is pretty much what was said.
shrug
mayaswell not be on consoles as far as i'm concerned because its not on any console that i'm going to touch with a 39 1/2 foot pole 😊
Once again, not really the question. I do wonder why you felt the need to criticise a CORRECT answer to a question from an hour ago.
in a general sense the game is not out on consoles, its out on a console.
In a general sense the game is very much on consoles. The only time the answer would have been no is if they asked if the game was available on the Playstation.
so if asking about "consoles" the game is roughly available to 60% of console players, the other 30 being playstation, and a small percentage left over for whatever trivial crap devices there are.
it looks like theres reasons to not porting to playstation with extra difficulties but if i ever wanted to play on my tv, valheim wouldn't be on the list, unless that changes in the future.
😂
If i was without a pc i would be a console player and i would not have access to valheim, it felt like a sweeping statement was made "yeah its on console"
There are.. Others?
Surely playstation and xbox are the only consoles
SURELY
GameCube.
super smash bros on game cube
good memories
Metroid Prime.
Yes
Best is can do is 7. 😏
deal
Evening, folks
Just bought the game and I'm new. If anyone would like to play with me, please let me know
you're gonna like it. everyone doesn't not like it.
I'm sure it's a lot of fun
it's like a barrel of monkeys. except the monkeys are piglings.
Just remember, trolls are friendly 😁
😂😂
A barrel of piglins? Hope you like surprise raids and a hog roast you didn’t plan for.
What? No gifs?
Invite I’ll run it with you
all hogs are for roasting. it has been foretold.
womp-womp. it's not sobad, atleast the link still pops
yeahh?
nintendo
which i guess is pretty much its own universe anyways
if i wanted a console i would keep a pc in steam bigpicture mode. all console makers had driven me away by 2015 or so.
i mean i dont care about makers of anything, buut microsoft can.....ah.....rot, i would very much like that.
for minecraft and forced account migration for one thing, on that day i no longer was a minecraft player.
linux has worked with decidedly less than windows-level annoyances for me, going on around 5 years now. all my games work fine.
well linux was always my childhood but since i've unfortunately had a windows laptop, the reality i have faced is less fucking around with compatibility issues because its like the default operating system for everything and everyone.
how long ago was that though? compat issues have all but disappeared in the last couple years. even my nvidia gpu hasn't been an issue, and just in the last 6months they've really stepped up their game. official drivers on linux aren't a pain anymore. might be worth a look if you don't need likkkeee adobe or rainbow six
plus windows update doesn't overwrite my up-to-date drivers with old/bad ones. (cough)
like this year lol
it was recently that i sorted through like 6 different versions of proton to get a game to run on ubuntu
ngl I'll take that over windows nonsense. it does happen occasionally that a game likes a certain version of proton sometimes, but imho it's kinda rare and a lot less annoying than the microsoft shenanigans. 🤷♂️
.. there are a few games that just don't play well still (like r6s), but none that i use
besides, realistically, valheim is the only game that really matters. >. >
yeah it bugs out on my ubuntu computer where the main menu screen becomes a black void whenever i do random things like alt tab or change a hairstyle in character creation
o.O that's... bizarre
I might not be the first or the last to ask this but I was wondering... how many biomes are currently complete in the game? I’ve read in multiple places that the Ashlands and Deep North are still under development. However, the devs recently released a patch called Ashlands so I’m a bit confused. Does this mean only the Deep North is still in development or is the Ashlands biome also incomplete?
Thank you
so what is the reason we had to murder moders children just for her to come out as a failing mother and cry about it?
feels like it could be avoidable 🤔
When you say it that way, her drop "Dragon Tear" feels very different 😟
I'm a viking not a shrink.
Ofc, killing her all the same. 🤣
poor dragon mommy 😔
Are Oceans getting a bit of love too??
And what do you think the Ancient Seeds were that you used to summon The Elder?
We won't know that.
Just like we won't know if the eggs we use to summon Moder will ever hatch.
stillborn dragon
every boss is summoned by it's children. fader's poor babybells sacrificed
never got the chance to grow up and be placed in a church
So that’s why the dragon eggs don’t hatch? Dragons come from bells?
Depending at what the univeral lore says about dragons, it's possible Moder just lays eggs like chicken do.
And Fader, being a terrible dad, decides he's off to buy a package of cigarettes. (Or a new vape)
Drakes are the children of Moder and Fader. Fader went to get cigarettes and never came back.
So you're assuming all laid eggs are fertile. What if they're not?
I assume the ones used to summon her aren’t fertile
“Life finds a way”
i mean they glow, i feel like a dead egg wouldnt glow much
I'm sure some of them aren't. Valheim doesn't seem to offer us any means by which to provide an appropriately gestative (that might be a made-up word) environment for Dragon Eggs.
Spawn two Moders and get them together. See what happens!
@fallen zephyr then you get a couple
They're... bimodal.
Hello, fellow vikings
Genetically, I'm 26% Scandinavian.
#screenshots message - this is kind of cool, first time i've seen this variation
I've seen those "grates" near shipwrecks before. But quite often most of them is burried in the sand, so you won't see much of it.
I love your explorative nature, but I'd hazard a guess that it's just a product of the procedural generation.
i didn't even know they had chests buried
'Buried Chests' sounds like a great name for a Men's Emotional Support Group.
Yeah well, that's the thing with buried chests. You won't see them because they're under the surface.
Hence why it's a good idea to keep shipwreck spots marked at your map and visit them once you got the wishbone.
By the time you get wishbones, there's very little in shipwreck chests worth a damn.
Just have a pickaxe with you and give it a few digs when you find a shipwreck, no need to wait for wishbone 🙂
That's why I dig it up when I find one. As Asatru said, no need to wait for the wishbone
i have been living very comfy without digging any one of those up... it is not like they contain special treasure ... all that is contained can be found elsewhere with less hassle
play some one?
That's my life.
do you want to play with me
No thanks, man. Good hunting to you! 🙂
thanks
I had a dragon egg hidden within a rock in the mountains today thought it was pretty cool
the edge of the nest was just hanging out a lil but the egg was completely covered
Hold up I have a question
?
If a woman had a boy dose that mean has grown a pear of nuts?
This server is for English only
I’m not sure, is this a mod of some kind?
No I'm high as I kite playing playing the silly Norwegian game will the blue man group hitting me
wait, this server is english only?
I thought since we playing a viking game, we all oughta know skandinavian languages?!
denied
damn it!
All Vikings spoke perfect English.
Just ask any American, they will tell you.
I spent four semesters learning Muppets-Swedish-Chef, but I've not found it particularly useful here.
wdym according to Vinland Saga they spoke fluent japanese 😡
😁
is deep north the last biome
Yes
:(
It's Swedish.
It's base of Norse mith and I'm high I do not care
Then it's probably best to leave Discord until you're sober.
Nuh I'm being baby sat by my gf over the phone
Nobody wants a Discord without drunk/high people.
Yeh, that's right! I speak for everyone.
If you don't mind the screaming tree babys are hitting my chickens again
No. I don't mind your chickens being hit by screaming tree babies. I don't know what a screaming tree baby is, but I'm going to assume it will result in me getting a quarter chicken and chips down the line.
The lings of gray
Hey @vocal rivet , I stand corrected.
The blue eye boys
The tree guys
Scared of fire?
Man watching new people play this game is so fun
Just seen this guy spend 10 days rafting to get his shit back and keep dying to everything possible
That's...fun?
it’s on yt and is condensed to leave the boring stuff out but imagining this guy spending hours having to remake a raft every time he dies just makes me giggle
Did he find a plains?
His first death was at day 47 (?)and from there it was just a string of bad decisions and luck, the dude mined into a rock by the coast and got stuck with no way to swim out until a troll stumped him
i wanna watch him
Yep, fulings, deathsquitos sea serpents the whole lot
https://youtu.be/v6vrti2Ey-Y?feature=shared string of deaths begins from 47 minutes in
Wonder if someone's working on Valheim: Colony Simulator 🤔
yule trees: indoors or outdoors?
i like to be indoors
(comfort objects only have a comfort radius of 10 meters, so if the goal is the point of comfort, indoors is usually more convenient)
I've never bothered with taming wolve, are they useful in mistlands?
And if i have them free roaming my base in the meadows will they kill and eat boar/ neck and then breed on their own. Eventually causing my base to be flooded with wolf pups?
A 2 star seeker is able to 1 shot a 2 star wolf with one of it’s attacks
keep the awoo's for the meat. might come in handy
RAAA LOVE THIS GAME
Yeah it’s alright
Yeah after over 2,3k hours playing I can also tell it's alright
Haven't played in over a year, I think, heard there's some new things 👀
Oh there are 😄 a whole new biome and new merchant for example
Oo
Fancy lol I gotta get back into it, I love building on this game, and abusing myself with falling trees 🤣
There is rarely anything as dopamine inducing than chopping down a tree in a dense forest and see that tree destroy other trees which in turn destroy other trees again
Oh yes I agree
the most comfortable time I had was starting up a new game, finding a spot to settle and just spend 3 or more hours collecting 16 wood chests worth of wood while I was watching House M.D at the side
10/10 would do again. will do again
Lol
Can anyone give me a general idea what to prepare for yagluth?
Im being told between frostner and silver sword for weapons but Im not sure which to use.
assuming both weapon type levels are equal, the silver sword is significantly better
Silver Sword is BiS for Yag.
frostner is tied with the black metal sword for second place
(both weapons have the same base damage against yagluth's resistances, but the sword secondary attack has slightly better dps, while frostner is a biome older than the BM sword so its stamina cost is lower, it's very much a preference thing there)
silver sword, ratatoskr mead, fire resist wine if you don't use Fenris and an anti-sting concoction to guard against any deathsquito adds. Also stamina and healing meads if you need them.
So silversword/frostner
fire resists
healing/stamina meads
2 health foods 1 stamina food
use earth towards advantage?
should I use padded armor?
Take Tasty Mead instead of Stamina.
Okay
Nah take both
Rahhhh
Don't.
Why? They can be used independently from each other. There is literally no downside to using both.
Ye lol
I just found a giant frozen lake in a frost cave and it genuinely gave me 'every copy of valheim is personalised' feelings lmao
how giant, got screenshots?~
im being told to use fenris armor, is this good idea for yag?
If you trust yourself not to get hit, then yeah
sure, I'll put it in screenshots, it's just a normal giant lake though
well ive never fought him before so I am not sure.
depends on your playstyle. its defense is lower than padded armor, but it's much faster.
it has built-in fire resistance so there's no need for fire res wine, but it offers no additional benefit against fire since resistances don't stack and the armor's resistance is the same as the wine's, so padded + wine is still better defensively
Then use padded 🙂 the fenris gives you fire resist but you have wine for that 🙂 (also for the speed, you might want to make ratatosk tonic :D)
I'd been thinking how frost caves seem crazy expansive and variable for procedural generation
oh heck, i somehow misinterpreted that as a giant unfrozen lake 😅
I see.
oh gosh lol. yeah, that'd be nice
my first impression was, I see fire, I should start a fire and unfreeze the lake. it's legend of zelda ocarina of time game theory flashback time
#screenshots message i have yet to find one of those with tetra lake 😭
I don't think that those spawn as tetra lake, do they?
I believe they sometimes can have one in the middle (think i saw one on some screen while ago)
i've heard claims of a thawed lake the size of a frozen lake, but haven't seen one myself and don't know where it fits into the rarity scale.
i know of two kinds of thawed lakes, only one of which existed in the original frost caves release. it's about the size of 2x2 rooms, which is still smaller than the frozen lake, and it's extremely rare.
then the fishing hat was added and thus tetra being gated behind this room that's so rare you have an average of about 1-2 per world became a little...questionable, and they added a new lake that's 1 room big and much more common, i often see people confuse that one for the extremely rare one 😅
I'm thinking I should watch videos and learn his attacks so that I can use the fenris armor and run away when I see an attack coming instead of using the padded
its not spoiling if its getting enemy intel 🥰
Yeah I'd found multiple of those tiny little tetra rooms
Thats why i suggested the tonic 🙂 it lets you be almost as fast as if you have 2 fenris pieces while still retaining WAY more armor
oh true
However if you use it **with ** the fenris armor you will know the true meaning of ***speed *** 😄
and i've only seen the original room once, i'm pretty sure it's a stair room leading straight down into the water, so i thought it was a trap you couldn't get out of and turned back, not marking the location or anything
Yeah I've never seen one of those
The one i have in mind was one of the big frozen lake rooms with a smaller lake/broken ice in the middle 😄
never seen that
I might be misremembering
-# again
are there any other super rare rooms/structures in valheim?
Yagluth vegvisir is super rare 😄
using the tonic and fenris means you can walk circles around him and stab him in the back while he tries to turn. Doesn't even try any attacks.
It's a little boring though so i don't recommend fighting him that way unless you get stuck.
hmmmm~ the 2x2 tetra lake is the rarest one i know of, i think it was something like a 1 in 200 chance?
(i remember the wording as 1 in 400, but that'd be kinda absurd considering the limit of frost caves per world is iirc somewhere around 160)
or maybe it's a 1 in 400 chance per room, or per specific section that has enough space for it, that'd be more reasonable
i know there's a variation of the frozen lake that i think is taller than usual, having another segment of stairs with an additional runestone on it. i've only seen that one once myself but never saw any datamined chances to misremember
I think i saw that one actually 🤔
interesting. i've been curious about what information is avialable through datamining
but not enough to commit lore crimes
No mining needed. Winter knows all. 🙌
i think this is the runestone on that additional part of stairs
man's gotta be more consistent about his signature
I want Ulf's deep north runestone to simply be "Help"
oh that'd be amazing
ngl I highly greatly envy everyone who picks this game up for the first time
It would fit 😄 but he has other stones in mistlands so either he got out after he wrote it or its someone else
i mean the author of that runestone is saying they didn't do it
Ulf is my hero. He's having a terrible time, but he's soldiering on, anyway.
-# but they're also admitting themselves a coward, which i doubt ulf would do
I've changed my mind on Thor being a worthy final boss. Ulf is my choice, now.
I do enjoy the lore being all these little details you can piece together. Though I'll admit I'm not very bright sometimes. I thought Gudrun was literally just an English language pun for "Well I had a good run"
I wonder if the final boss is gonna be the deep north boss or if there's gonna be one final cook either way i'm hyped
I would be surprised if that little pillar in the center of sacrificial stones didn't light up and send your ass either up into the sky or down to hell
I feel like, given players' interest in visiting the Yggdrasil, it would be a good place to have a final fight lol
was just thinking the same, idk what to play during this holiday break. There's really no other game like Val, but I also haven't played in like a year. Kinda too daunting to pick back up in the plains, but also tough to start all over... the first playthrough of this is oh so special
not gonna lie, what does it für me with Valheim is how they do the atmosphere and the world generation. All about it is just so incredibly beautiful, I can and will get lost in it for such a long time
I mean there's nothing to lose, right?
good worldgen and atmosphere blends beautifully with a good building system too~
oh yes, absolutely. Poor worldgen was what made me grow weary of no mans sky quite quickly but Valheim is beautiful all around
It's quite a strange game, honestly. There's nothing revolutionary about things like the combat or levelling system, which are typically the strongest focus in games like this. I'm really impressed by the focus on all of the systems and how they interact. Things like lighting, status effects, the physics engine
The mere fact that you have to make sure that you make a proper fire pit with ventilation in this game is already pretty insane
in a good way, mind you
I like the smoke in this game. It's an interesting problem, and has an interestingly simple solution.
I was a developer for one game where the smoke needed to move about randomly, so it was turned into an npc that would just 'walk' to different places, lol.
it's pretty interesting how they did it in this game for sure. I love the building in this game so much, the weather, the lighting, everything. It's an amazing experience
One thing that I wonder about is the rain, and the wet effect. Typically in games there's not necessarily meant to be 'bad' things, but rather, things that are are situationally bad, and situationally good. And I haven't really figured out anything about the rain that seems to be particularly useful. Zelda tried to solve rain being a net negative with the wet effect weaponry for example
It could just be that good game design does necessitate some design decisions that players don't like. frustration is sometimes just a part of building for satisfaction lol
wet status effect can protect you from fire damage
lol good point
but that's a very very optimistic or w/e lense
I'll start carrying around the build materials for a hot tub so I can take a mid gjall splash
jumping in the ocean has saved my (feather cape wearing) butt a time or two in the mistlands 😂
I just always bring fire wine in mistlands
also while mobs can't get wet from rain they do get wet from being immersed in water. And being wet gives weakness to both frost and lightning damage.
i generally don't bother since dodging the fireballs isn't that hard. But nobody's perfect... 😂
idk fire wine is so cheap i don't mind being excessive with it
it's not the mats, it's the inventory slot
same reason i rarely carry healing or stam mead
and ye idk half the time the gjalls don't even get a shot off before they're dead
idk i find it to be fine, i just drop seeker mats, but i understand the wanting a "free" inv slot
i don't really need it though. I pretty much only pop mead for boss fights or lingering stam & eitr in Mistlands + Ashlands for QoL, otherwise it mainly gathers dust in a chest or barrel.
Fair, i just like being safe rather than sorry
odin is freaky sometimes. dude had spawned 4 different times within 10 minutes. why is this?
usually only once, but 4 times is crazy
looking for swamp dungeons is obnoxious beyond comprehension
me and my best friend cleared 2 entire biomes without a single dungeon, and we have a hard time finding swamp biomes in general
kinda crazy, ngl
I do wonder. If you guys start a new world from scratch, do you take an existing character of yours or do you start with a pre-existing one? 🤔
I use one for every run, so I can work to cap all my skills
my head canon is like a conqueror of worlds (?)
I beached my longboat on a mistland while exploring the world
Some giant bomber looking balloon is floating above me
I'm still in troll armor
I'm scared lol
new ones
Okay I was right the balloon thing does bomb you to death
Guess the longboat is gone now
Ah yes, that's a good first impression of the Mistlands
So, I came across a video about how to use a mod manager on pirated copies of the game. I was wondering if there was someone I'd, I dunno, send a link to so they could get the video taken down or something? Just felt kind of skeevy seeing the video.
Send it in a message to @dusky pivot with words of explanation.
send to contact@irongatestudio.se
modmail only handles discord moderation issues
I always start new world with new character, never did anything else 😄
I am insane I tell ya... i made a caracter and world specifically for trying out building mods and such stuff... and now i find myself in the swamp on hard, playing the game... completele forgt i wanted to try new buildings 😄
I’ve only ever had one character. I like to think of it as different stories my guys encountered
if you bring an old character to a new world, can you bring items too? or is it only the characters stats
Items too
and only the current items on your character right? or I guess you can technically slowly transfer over?
Ye
Some people transfer ores that way. Take ores from one place, go to other world and place ores in chest, go back to original world and go thru portal. Once at base, go back to “other world” and get ores to original world. At that point, you should just turn on the option that allows portals to transfer you with ores.
okay I left my first character/world in the plains a year ago, trying to come back to the plains is daunting, but starting over from scratch is also pretty wild. I might try to meet in the middle by bringing some things over. or just play a fresh world with others.
Idk, at that point I think I would start over to re-familiarize myself with the game mechanics but with a resource multiplier on. Then turn it off at the plains
do what makes you happy and that you enjoy
i really like the early game of valheim - it does get sloggy around the middle of swamps and middle of mountain
yeah im trying to meet in the middle cuz I love the challenge, but I also don't know if I can redo 100 hours of progress haha
Ye the resource multiplier would greatly accelerate ur progress
that is a good idea, I will consider that
And just switch it back to vanilla once you get to the plains if you prefer
to me, the Swamp biome basically asks you if this is the game for you 😄
and for a lot of people, they say no right there
Ye the ramp up in difficulty is somewhat shocking the first time around
yeah that's the one thing where I was like shit idk if I can do perma rain again lol
I kinda do wanna play with friends though, ill give the LFG a shot
Valheim is almost an entirely different game when playing with other people
I've only played solo so far
Would recommend playing thru the game with a group
yah, i agree. the game is more fun to me with people who can help with simple tasks like farming, smelting, resource gathering
Play the game solo first
I've played through the majority solo
I'm basically going for my 2nd play through now minus DLC
no one needs to play the game solo first
@wispy path @vivid shale either of y'all looking for a fresh playthrough by chance?
The time it takes to get through the mist lands and ashlands equals or is even greater than the amount of time it takes to get through all the other biomes
Sorry mate, in the middle of a play through myself rn
me no, i'm doing no portal, no map right now
all good, figured I would ask
#1024264966712340510 is a good place to look
yah, there's usually a fresh start going on in the LFG
Tons of dedicated servers looking for people to join their vanilla play through all the time
They certainly do need
What DLCs?
the game is great with friends, it's a video game, you do what you enjoy
Ye, was the point I was making as well. Lol
rianu isn't very good with people, so he probably prefers to play by himself
Long as he's having fun. I'm currently waiting for my playgroup to be ready to take on Lord Retos quest
Literally doesn't matter, if they have more fun with friends then they should play with friends, if they have more fun being solo than they should play solo
Alright, I apologize if I have already asked this, but I have forgotten:
Has anyone done spawn prevention testing for the Forge or Workbench? I saw a test where they set a bunch of un-upgraded benches around a spot that isn't covered by the area and force a spawn to demonstrate it reliably appears there. But has anyone done a similar setup, then upgrade one bench to check and see if it increases the spawn prevention radius and covers that spot?
it would seem counterintuitive to have 2 separate values linked to the workbench in the form of crafting radius and spawn prevention, whereas it would be intuitive to have radius control both spawning and crafting
huh. so i decided to explore near the western edge of the map. the ocean started getting very rough, and i saw an iceberg. I'm fairly near the equator. And then it said the Deep North. What's with that?
pics of iceberg and map location: #screenshots message
anyone got any reccomend mod for auto smelting and coal and recycle item mod
That's one for #mods-discussion
oh thanks
Thanks for this reply. I had already seen this page, but I had seen something elsewhere that asserted that build radius and spawn prevention radius were separate. Because of the conflict, I was hoping to get a first hand account from someone in here.
However, now I cannot find the other wiki page saying that they are separate. I will just trust this part of the wiki and your endorsement of it. Thanks again for the help!
Brasil?
anyone wanting to play starting up a brand new loading with 1 half experienced player and 2 non expereinced players
I just noticed that the drakkar and the longship does not have the same stats. Was it always the case? Distintively remember them being the same aside for looks and one being resistant to heat.
Always the case yes
Weird, I have no idea why I thought it had the same stats
The wiki used to show them the same
You are correct, the wiki must have changed. They used to be identical on there…
They weren’t the same on the Ashlands ptb I know that to be a fact
There has been a discussion about those stats a while (2-3 months) ago. So it's always possible someone changed the stats on the wiki to both ships having the same. But afaik they were different and still are.
Hello, fellow vikings
Noon gjall 😄
@near furnacecan i turn my facecam on despite not being valheim related
no
There is Twitch, kick and youtube for streaming and facecamming
or private DM's

oi gj'all! o7
hey guys, I was thinking:
what if you made EXPLORATION into a skill, and the more you explore, the bigger the exploration radius it becomes?
where can I suggest something like this to the devs?
Don’t forget the 💡
We don't need a skill for everything. Exploring already helps with run, jump and combat skills
Surely someone in #1024264966712340510 😄
Is there a way to give other people on server (non dedicated server) acces to debug mode?
not in the vanilla game
Anyone from eastern EU or Central Asia want to play?
Surely someone in #1024264966712340510 😄
@idle storm dude that sap outpost is crazy
i know right 😂
also has both a gjall spawn and a seeker soldier spawn just over the hill
far enough to not be aggroed by running/building but close enough to easily farm
honestly jealous
i spent hours exploring Mistlands without a wisplight, this was a fitting reward indeed
first i thought it was only 6 but there were two more in the mist i only discovered after killing Yag 😁
hello there i see some speedrunners dodge roll attaacks with the building hammer in the chars hands and i can't find a way to do it ? anyone knows how this trick works pls share ur tech ty
you need to change your default input settings
because they share the same input on default input settings
thx for ur reply
I'm hosting an event for the holidays on my world of anyone wants to join. It'll take place on a player-built village in the mountain biome, and we're taking on Moder as a group in about 30mins. Dm me if you wanna join
@gray sand I realize that, but thank you ✌️
sooo
when is the option to aim up included in the game?
For melee? Never.
I fking love when a slime decides to camp on a mound and poison me to death while I'm stuck fighting draugrs
For ranged? Already in the game.
he was behind a corner
I recommend playing with headphones to hear enemies approach
literally untargetable poison trap
Especially for mistlands
Untargetable because he was inside a wall or behind an indestructible object?
on a high ridge behind a corner I couldn't shoot through
or ig I can shoot point blank while getting stabbed by draugrs
doubt that'd have made me live tho
Reason you can't just ignore him?
well I want the crypt?
Run in
Kill the draugr while ignoring the blob?
Poison resist mead helps! 🙂
I need help tracking down a mod, I used to play on a server that had a mod that added copper nodes, the nodes were much smaller than the normal veins but I cant find the mod anywhere
if the nodes looked like this, that makes it a lil harder because those are an unused vanilla object so plenty of mods could make those generate
Yeh
Does anyone know if Shamans stop healing themself?
#screenshots message
@merry pebble , just edited the msg, I meant by the healing skill
Oh, then i dont think so
They do throw the green powder into the air, but they are not healing...
So they’re using the attack but not gaining the healing effect?
Yeah
I am not sure what causes it but tames also someties dont heal when they eat food, could be similar thing
My plan was to collect like 4-5 of them, and keep attacking them for Skill levels, but they need to heal themself, otherwise they'll be dead
Try leaving the area and returning to reload them
Doing it now, can I just teleport away, or the area need to be left for a while to actually unloads?
Teleporting away should work
bosses are great for levelling skills, especially ones with high resistances using bad weapons
I think they need to be in a bigger room, took them out of that small pen and they started healing themself again
Speaking of leveling skills, anyone know about how to raise farming skill fast?
Tbh, just farming large quantities, not sure you can actually make it go faster
I just found a nice way using the cultivate / planting grass option.
Gained 4 levels while only making my 1st base better looking,
That raises it too? 👀
Planting grass does, yes.
Hmm, and only while actually planting new grass or even planting over ground that already has grass?
looking for a group to play with if anyone is intersted
And you can "remove" the grass by cultivating the land, so an endless opportunity to keep leveling that skill.
All you need is a lvl 1 forge near you to repair the cultivator.
Can just spam click on the same spot
I planted grass on an plateau I have build for my base.
Just tested it on a plot I'm raising now, cultivate removes the grass, grass removes the cultivated ground.
So....... I think how to raise farming fast is pretty easy with a forge nearby.
Cultivate, then grass that cultivated land, rinse and repeat
Ah you found the solution, cheers
Yeah, that's what I said a few lines below that comment.
Yea just got to it mb
hello everyone
Now the irony of all of this is that I actually went in game to finish building the walls and towers of my 1st base.
Then I was like "I might as well add a few braziers in the towers to that looks more 'realistic' from a distance."
Then it was, "I might as well pave the roads to the entrances of the towers, the stairs of the wooden towers, and from my dock to the main building."
When that was done, I was like: "Might as well fill up the open spaces with grass so it looks more natural."
Followed by: "If I cultivate some land around my bee hives and plant seed carrots, turnips and onions there, it looks better too."
And it ended, "I might as well raise the platform for the Eitr refinery and Obliterator."
Which means the final step will be: "Time to build a stone bridge between my 1st base and that seperate platform for the destruction machines......."
And the best part of it, I don't even have black marble, so I even can't build that building. 🤦♂️
#screenshots message Damn, fenris set with wolf cloak and spooky hat looks awesome!
I've played for a couple hours and know the very basics. Is that enough to jump into multiplayer? how do I find people to play with?
what piece of iron gear is most important to craft?
It depends at the kind of group you're looking for.
Experienced players may not like to have a new player joining them, but there are plenty of other new players that might to hook up.
And for that you may have more luck in asking in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510
Depends if you usually use heavy armor or light armor.
For the former, I'd say the chest piece as you got the speed penalty anyway.
For the latter I'd say, the helmet as that would boost your armor rating without the speed penalty.
A mace might be good to start with if you're still in swamp tier and just started making iron gear. A lot of swamp creatures are either neutral or weak to its blunt damage. Blobs and skeletons, specifically, are weak to it.
well, I've been using the troll armor with a bronze helmet. So I guess I'm a light armor user.
I've been having a lot of issues dealing with draugr in particular, especially starred draugr hitting me hard even when blocking, I have the bone shield btw
OK, wrong answer.
Start looking for the Abominations and get yourself Root Armor. It'll help a lot to deal with piercing damage, which is what those Draugr archers do.
If you're confident in parrying, then an iron buckler can ward off harder hitting attacks like that more likely.
don't I need something to not take damage in mountains?
Also I watched a few videos of guys playing valheim and they got absolutely shredded by wolves while wearing iron armor, So I don't have much hope with that
Oh, abominations are weak to axes, so bring one agains them.
Or fire arrows is you prefer to fight at a distance.
I also have my bronze axe on me, but good to know
they're neutral to slash and immune to chop like all other enemies, so swords and axes are the best choices, but swords are overall better weapons so if it's melee dps you want, swords are best
You can also lure them over to a fire geyser which chews them up and it's funny watching them get incinerated.
oh wait, yeah, they're not weak to axes. I guess it is just the slashing damage, in which case a sword will be preferable.
they're just neutral and resistant to pierce and maybe blunt*[citation needed]*
-# that said, coming out of the black forest, you're more likely to have an axe than a sword since an axe is "required", so whether making a sword just for this one enemy is worth it is subjective
My turn to ask a question. 😄
Do Wisp torches need to be refueled like the other torches or not?
nope
but they're also the only torch that neither spawnproofs nor is attacked on sight by calm enemies
makes them great for exploration since you don't have to worry about them being destroyed behind you, but it does mean you can't use them to keep your base safe
(and yea, x0.5 resistant to blunt and x0.25 very resistant to pierce)
I'm planning to create a channel in this meadow area I got my base in, as the water is occasionally too shallow.
Was thinking to put up core wood logs with torches on top to mark where it is.
Without having to worry that I need to go out there and refuel the torches once in a while.
So if Wisp torches don't need refueling, I've got to bring in my other character to craft them. Otherwise I might as well wait until this character gets to Mistlands. (which may be 2026 with my current progress. 😄 )
dvergr lanterns also don't need to be refueled but those are attacked on sight by calm enemies and don't even spawnproof to make up for that...for some reason
If I put them high enough in the water it may work. Unless I get a raid with archers, I think. I'll consider it.
Thanks for the help. 🙂
it seems like a really bad idea to get close to one in general
already have a bronze sword 🤷♂️
once you learn their patterns, their 3 attacks become easy to predict for parries or dodgerolls
They're just similar to trolls, only looking different. So you can fight them the same way you're fighting trolls.
Just keep in mind that once you got into the mountains, you will have to fight a big monster up close and personal as those are very resitant to pierce damage.
Which is why I hate those buggers.
so is it pointless to bring an axe into the swamp?
standing in front of them, they'll do either a quick whip attack with one arm, or a slow stomp with the other.
hugging them causes them to do their stump-pound, which is slow and telegraphed by a low grumbling noise.
the whip attack is their weakest
you do need quite a bit of a unique type of wood found here, though technically abominations could cut down trees for you
If you're not ready for it, it is. But it's a lot faster than arrows, even fire arrows.
No, you can still use it to chop down of the ancient trees to get the Ancient bark.
But at the same time, Ancient bark can also be found in chests in the Sunken Crypts, so there's no real need to chop down trees there.
It's true, I have more ancient bark than I know what to do with from crypt loot and abominations.
You can use it to create a raiding fleet of Longships...... 👼
i had a little bit of a shortage this run from making two root sets and the crystal battleaxe 😅
well it's a bronze axe, so idk if its strong enough for that
i always use the bronze axe for aboms
btw, @wispy tree if you're in a swamp, try to look for the Bogwitch as well.
She offers some good items to make longer lasting food; which works well when combined with swamp food.
