Hey Everyone, Connor from the UK here, really looking for like-minded people who like survival/crafting games, I've been a part of this server among others across other games (Aska & Enshrouded) and never know how to pop up ha, but I am a casual player when I can (mainly spare time from Uni and work) but would love to join anyone's world or host ๐Ÿ™‚ I have a few assignments over the next couple of weeks, but after I've done those I'll be back, my friends started me with Survival and now just left me too it as they like FPS games LOL so having some company would be great, (I do have a headset and mic but will probably be a bit shy at first LOL)

steel mica
pliant hatch
# kindred hare i think you mean making 90000 trips to your boat, crashing that bih on a microme...

If you do that you're doing something wrong.

Loot a crypt, bring it to a small base near the coast, drop the iron in a chest, rince and repeat. Once the chests (longboat can hold 18 stacks, so 2 chests) are full, load everything in the longboat and sail back home.
And in between, just use a portal to get home for the resting bonus, food etc.

I've hauled 2K of iron that way and still got a 3rd K waiting.

steel mica

iron is like the diamond of valheim

swamps was tough. mistlands was fine combat wise, but a pain to traverse, so i found myself getting yeeted on cause no stamina.

cloudberries are incredibly abundant

#

onion is not a problem because you can farm them aswell

atomic ingot

What do the clothes from hildir do?

pliant hatch

They reduce stamina use.
Which makes them great when building or farming at your (protected) base.

atomic ingot

Oh that is nice

I donโ€™t build fast enough for stamina to drain but the farming stamina help would be huge

atomic ingot

That wiki kicks ass

tiny tiger
#

@kindred hare based on your gameplay I would recommend working on your environmental awareness, Ashlandโ€™s environment is very tough and there are enemies round every corner, also avoiding lava as much as possible especially around enemies that can knock you into it.

I also believe you would benefit more from lingering stamina mead as it provides a constant buff to stamina regen for the duration.

And of course, make sure you are using the best food available to you and keeping a look out for any potential resources that will allow you to upgrade your gear or food

kindred hare

block single, attack once
Then they'll either roar (attack twice) or repeat

idle storm
#

Just walk backwards and to the side a little. The only attack hitbox large enough to be a threat is the double-slam and the animation is long enough you get out of range anyway

nocturne wolf
idle storm
#

also most melee weapons have longer reach than seekers start their attack from, so you can hit them before their attack starts - do that with frostner and the fight is basically over.

nocturne wolf
mystic skiff
#

So get in melee range, block attack, then attack right?

idle storm
#

you can easily interrupt a seekers attack animation with frostner or mistwalker

nocturne wolf
#

I wasnโ€™t arguing against what youโ€™re saying, just giving some relevant information. Jump attacking can allow you to start any attack from very far away.

idle storm
#

ah, my bad then ๐Ÿ˜…

mystic skiff
#

I need to watch some vids on this then

#

So you can't attack after a seeker's slam, because you block, then attack, boom, 50 damage done, now you can't block lol

nocturne wolf
#

I was testing this earlier, seekers seem much trickier to fight with tower shields than other common enemies. Their movement is horrible froggi

#

Usually I use a parrying shield to stagger them or no shield for max movespeed against them

mystic skiff
#

it's not that, your swing speed is too low, if you're vs a 1 star seeker it's game over

#

it's just a game of attrition at that point

nocturne wolf
#

Youโ€™ll have to jump around them to hit safely, but if youโ€™re doing that you may as well unequip the shield as itโ€™s only slowing you down.

mystic skiff

Please let me know if someone want to play with me.

Y'all think they're gonna retroactively add some of the new weapon types to early game? For example crossbows or magic. Not saying magic shouldn't be later in the game but it does feel kind of weird we don't have crossbows early in the game

vital umbra

don't really have the tech for it....maybe a plains tier crossbow at best

Is it just me or is the fact that crossbows is a skill just... why can't it be 'ranged'?

assuming itll be a while til the north pole is done

lament briar
#

Crossbows aren't accessible from the start

azure yacht
#

And not everyone uses bows.

plush umbra

bows benefit insanely much from a high level, whereas crossbows don't get all that much more effective by comparison

lament briar
#

Crossbows oneshot Trolls tho

azure yacht

Meaning that crossbows are the solution for the people to use a physical ranged weapon without being punished for not having spent time with bows

lament briar
#

Oh

#

I wonder if anyon3 actually hit level 100 cbow without cheating

azure yacht
#

Bows are only better than crossbows if you have high bow skill

lament briar
#

Also, I think swimming skill should increase swim speed

plush umbra
#

they consume less ammo, they deal more damage per bolt and thus make better use of backstab damage, they don't drop off with distance, repositioning while ready to fire is much more convenient since it's not actively draining stamina - it's a great weapon to initiate battles with from afar, while bows are better for mid-range active combat

lament briar

"See that troll over there?"

And also, why isn't the Abomination and Elder weak to chop?

#

Golem is weak to pickaxe

nocturne wolf
nocturne wolf
plush umbra
# lament briar And also, why isn't the Abomination and Elder weak to chop?

because they don't need the weakness for axes to be effective, they're already neutral to slash and axes are a decent weapon.
meanwhile, pickaxes are an awful weapon and stone golems are resistant to pierce because they're rocks, they needed that weakness for pickaxes to at least be viable and as blobi said, they're still not the best choice ๐Ÿ˜…

lament briar
#

Funny how skeletons are weak to blunt but Charred could give less of a care against it.

#

Also, Ashlands is extremely pierce-unfriendly.

plush umbra
#

poor pierce, if only bows weren't so innately overpowered, maybe less of the game would resist you, rip spears, atgeirs, knives and crossbows

lament briar
#

Skoll and Hati are so fun to play with

#

The attack speed is nuts, and backstabs are so much fun.

lament briar

It's like, we get so many amazing pierce weapons in Mistlands: Himminafl, Spinesnap, Skoll and Hati, Arbalest...

Then Iron Gate says, "Fuck your knife, bow, crossbows, and polarm skill," the next update.

Also, is black marble considered a fossil or a stone?

Or bone

lavish cargo
#

Keeping enough eitr for the shield, but otherwise maximizing stamina only and doing melee. Good idea or nah? I'm not asking if it's optimal, but if it's viable enough to be fun.

My logic is that you always want stamina, but only need health / eitr while actually in combat.

merry pebble
merry pebble
lament briar
#

Well, yes, it is a type of rock, do not get me wrong. Perhaps what I meant to ask is...

Are giant remains considered fossils because they're preserved remains of times long passed.... or is the black marble the bone itself?

merry pebble
lament briar
#

That is Very interesting. It's as if the minerals in the cliffs said, 'ayo is that a brain? Tha shi nasty. Build around it, boys'.

nocturne wolf
#

If the brains are magic, are they still alive ThinkingTroll

lavish cargo
#

These bones may very well be effectively dead inside the alive creature. Which would be fascinating.

lament briar
#

Perhaps they had magic coursing through their veins to keep their bodies alive and moving. Considering how massive they were, it would be impossible for the heart to pump forcefully enough to allow the arteries to carry blood without being affected by gravity unless they had a heart in each limb.

lavish cargo
#

We already know this is possible, looking at Yagluth.

lament briar
#

It all makes sense now. Magic, not blood, carries the nutrients their brains need to have enough energy to move their massive bodies, which is why the magical essence remains in the brain long after death.

nocturne wolf
#

They probably ate a lot of magecaps...

lament briar
#

This also explains why the bones themselves lack any sort of marrow. Why would you need places to harbor stem cells that manufacture blood cells when magic converts your nutrients to energy instead? No need for porous, spongy bone, either, when marble can carry your weight better than bone.

#

... why isn't black marble uses for the demolisher? It's a fucking marble block adorned with copper engravings on yggdrasil wood

#

The fuck we need iron for?

nocturne wolf
#

Iron can't be teleported and needs smelting so it adds a bit more difficulty to the recipe

lament briar
#

Oh yeah, the iron blocks are part of the ends of the wood and the marble is attached to it

#

I still think like... 5 marble should be a part of the recipe

#

It's a 1x2 block of marble attached to iron and yggdrasil wood with copper

#

Know what's funny? I wonder if the amount materials we use to craft items iis the actual average amount of iron we need to perfect the weapon at that stage.

Imagine only needing two iron ingots to create the demolisher (one for the base and top of the hilt) but since we have no forging skill, we fuck up an astronomical amount of times trying to forge the damn shapes, we need about 20 iron to get it right

#

I think I just came up with some lore...

nocturne wolf
#

The reason they cost so much iron is because they would be too easy to craft otherwise

vocal rivet
#

I've always assumed that was the case.

lament briar
#

I know, but I'm trying to get the lore reason

nocturne wolf
#

Does everything need a lore reason?

lament briar
#

I mean

#

20 ingots is excessive considering you only need one to make a sword.

merry pebble
nocturne wolf
#

It's not excessive considering what that sword can do

lament briar
#

True

#

But... we spend so much on fully upgrading it, more than making the weapon in the first place... for some weapons, it's only marginally an improvement

lament briar
#

Yeah... but what is it with devs gatekeeping us with upgrades? We can only upgrade Ashlands weapons once.

merry pebble
lament briar
#

It's stinkyyyy

merry pebble
#

You are free to think so ๐Ÿ™‚

lament briar
#

Why make us wait until the next update to allow us to upgrade 4 when there are weapons in that same update that will surpass it?

#

Just let us upgrade fully now.

nocturne wolf
lament briar
#

100 durability is a sizeable difference.

nocturne wolf
#

That gives plain flametal weapons one advantage over gemstone weapons, they can have more durability

cosmic summit
#

Anyone have ideas for making hanging towels for my hot tub room?

#

Maybe some kind of trophy?

lament briar
#

Why do flametal weapons start with 150 durability rather than 200?

It is still doable without the wisplight, but with it its much better ๐Ÿ™‚

@hasty grove mistlands is VERY doable without wisplight. you'll be surprised how doable it actually is

hearing that horn can be scary tho, but i guess thats scary even if u have wisplight

"doable" is a loose term there

fallen zephyr

you may get lucky with a seed that has multiple dungeons on the coast, or you may end up in an area with 1 dungeon and no key frags

nah man practically doable and the term is not loosely fit at all.. just try it urself and see

Also the red mist gives you off a guess of where it is, but still, I'm not gonna fight at disadvantage

i was very surprised how easy it was

Does the dverger ward recognize the source of damage to the structures?

cosmic igloo

what you mean? like if u did something indirectly? it doesnt care about u if u push a cart into their structure for example

Like if I get some gjall there to wreak havoc are they gonna get at me?

Hey everybody, is someone up to helping me in a good old fashioned troubleshooting? I have just created a world, played in it a few hours with my friend, we finished playing than we tried to play again the next day but that time he could connect to my world.

I created a new world and that time he was able to connect. I restored a backup of our world to see if he could connect to it again. But he got bored and rather went play other games :D.

Who ever is kind enough to help I would ask them to, after they copied my mod profile in thunderstore, try to join my world to see if its actually solved the problem.

By the way, on the console I was able to find that his connection is fails when I, the host, try to send the config data to him.

something with more range perhaps?

putting a torch every 3 steps is kind lame

Donโ€™t think so, those are the only options as far as I know. The mistwalker sword technically does.

void hound
#

Hey should i swap out my root harnesk for a padded cuirass ? we are at the plains

merry pebble
#

If you are dying to deathsquitos often then you could

merry pebble
#

It is not neccesary at all tho ๐Ÿ™‚

void hound
#

as in upgrade to padded cuirass

merry pebble
#

Oh it is not really an upgrade, its from 2 biomes earlier (and its a light armor) so it has lot less armor, but since it has resistance to pierce dmg its great in addition to the padded armor against certain enemies ๐Ÿ˜„

cosmic igloo
#

root chest is rly nice in plains for mosquito mainly but theres 2x fire mobs there that can shrekt you. if you're kinda new i recommend switching to padded

#

no move speed penalty with root chest tho, which is nice

#

i think raw armor is best for newer players because you might not think about dmg types so you can just facetank everything with a lot of armor instead

#

just less complicated

merry pebble
#

Yeah its a tradeof, depends what you want from your armor

tiny tiger
#

You should stick to root harnesk for now and switch to padded when fighting filing villages or the boss

fiery jacinth
#

Greetings, fellow vikings

tiny tiger

I keep both on me in the plains

#

idle storm
#

As long as you avoid meleeing torch fulings and snipe shamans from a distance root harnesk is the superior choice imo. Just don't get fireballed Ragnar_laugh
Though as long as you train yourself to block (and have enough hp to not be staggered of course) when you hear buzzing deathsquitoes aren't all that dangerous even in Fenris or troll armor. It's mostly the unblocked hits that get you killed.

any optimization guide for dedicated server ? when me and my friends are playing in separate locations, everything is ok, but when we go do something together, everything has a delay and desync, like when we get flooded with wolves and we swing them, they should die before their attack hit us, but it still does half a sencond later

metal armors are just annoyingly expensive and giving up the speed from the fenris set sucks

azure yacht
#

Not padded

shy marlin
#

padded costs iron

azure yacht
#

Just 30 iron

Not counting how ridiculously cheap it is to upgrade

shy marlin
#

30 iron better used somewhere else

azure yacht
#

In plains? For what?

shy marlin
#

dunno bout u but iron is used in a lotta things ๐Ÿ™‚

#

and heavy armor is just dog tier anyways

#

movement speed > armor always

azure yacht
#

For an experienced player yes

shy marlin
#

i'm tired of pretending that inexperienced players can't use wasd

azure yacht

But I'm sure inexperienced players are less familiar with attack timings

shy marlin

anyways fenris armor/root harnesk is literally goated in the mistlands using padded armor bit cringe ngl

Disagree personally, I wish more things took thread. Lol

fossil oar

farming is the absolute worst part of this game by far

azure yacht

So a you thing, that's different

fossil oar

i do not understand why allowing you to plant crops in spots they cant grow was ever considered a good idea

#

especially when there is already a hard distance limit on how close you can plant them

teal matrix

Because it's up to you to discover what can grow where.

fossil oar

no, physically

teal matrix

Aint that big a distance tbh

Also, saying foraging is better than farming is kinda wild

farming is boring and repetitive and takes forever

Have you tried the new scythe? It makes farming pretty fast

scythe doesnt help me plant faster or make spacing less annoying

I'm down for that to, but it's part of what makes survival games good to me. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ
