You cant build there afaik
wait you could totally make a pufferfish cannon
make a catapult, load it with puffer fish, use build pieces to funnel it into a gun-like barrel, and then you have a puffer fish gun
Inside no (just checked), but you could use the structure as a support to make your own otherwise-unbuilable-tower.
Like a reeeeeeeealy tall one you mean? That would be cool indeed π
I'm at the critical point where I have to decide between mountain base or plains base π
Or maybe I say fuck it and try a Mistlands base for the first time? π€
I just built my first base in the mistlands. Found a rock in the middle of a large body of water and now raids dont affect me (except bats). HUUUGE dub
Ok so
First Infested Mine this run.
First time using Ooze Bombs.
And holy crap, Mistlands has never been so easy.
hell yeah, iron grind paid off. bonemass beaten in less than 2 mins
Krom, how I have missed thee.
I have such a question..I raised the stealth level to 2, but then I was killed and the stealth level dropped to 1... is this normal or a bug?
With each death you loose 5% of levels you have, on normal settings that is
chat
im a winner
technically you could say ive only ever died once during my whole time playing this game
on each character
does that mean im a winner
i think so
Not that hard (I died to a neck like 5 mins ago)
I am Chuck Norris
@merry pebble Melee = Blue or Red, Ranged = Green or Red.
if you look closely to the top right corner of ur screen when you die it reads "skills lowered" meaning your skills get lowered a little, and sometimes it says "the gods are merciful" meaning they stay the same
yea coming back to my world after a year and having my levels near zero makes me think I might've died a bunch before I got off lol
@foggy glacier Melee = Blue or Red, Ranged = Green or Red.
I'm afraid of getting hit by my own lightning.
You can't be.
Well, take it from someone who actively uses the Blue Berserkir's because they are his favorite weapon of all time.
Lightning is op iirc
let's hope the next fortress I find has two iolite then.
Which is why I carry 2 pairs of those axes and swap based on situation π
wiki says "players" i believe that means other players that are fighting alongside you, but it is worded in a way i cant be sure
"Once triggered, it has an 80% chance of bouncing off nearby enemies or players."
This would make blood even better, because you can intentionally have a damaged health bar for the % damage output increase, knowing you won't take damage because bubble.
I suppose.
Way I read the wiki is that chain will bounce of anything nearby, including you, if you're close enough
It's included for PvP, it can bounce on and off players that have PvP activated
There's no PVP in the game.
You can have PvP tho, if both players agree to enable friendly fire π
That's not remotely the same.
Staff of Frost: 30 Frost Damage per 5 Eitr
Staff of Fire: 120 Fire + 120 Blunt per 35 Eitr
30 / 5 = 6 dpe
240 / 35 = 6.86 dpe
So fire is just straight-up better?
I mean, its still fight between players, thats all that PvP is imo. π€ While it is not even remotly the point of the game it still can happen.
No, actual PvP requires so much more to be in place. Weapons balanced to kill players rather than mobs for one.
you must have a very unique definition of PVP then
I really see PvP only as players fighting players by any means they have access to/agree to, for me its not important if the game is specifically designed to support PvP π
but in valheim it's not even emergent gameplay -- there is an explicit option to turn on PvP damage
Friendly fire.
Yeah, it was quite fun once when a friend with mage armor and staves wondered if he could block my attack with sword (Mistwalker), then we turned friendly fire on, he proceeded to block with staff, I landed secondary attack and he dropped dead
Mace secondary works even better because it has higher stagger and good damage, and more knockback for the corpse
Don't let logic deceive you, two player enabling friendly fire to face each other is not players versus players.
Now now, lets not be too spicy π
Hey everyone, has anyone managed to fix the bug with the control from the latest update?
PTB questions go in the appropriate channels.
Sorry
Do vineberries grow only in ashlands? If I wanted to plant them
They grow nearly anywhere afaik, probably not mountains tho
Which channel is the appropriate one?
tks
Im curious because I planted some on my meadows base and they all died
Died? like they didnt even grow up the wall or the wine just disappeared
they grew on wall and disapperaded after some time
Hmm, dont know why, they should be normally growing
You have to space them about 1 M out or so from a wall. If they're too close though will they die if they're too far from the wall they die
They already grew on the wall so i dicarded that as a posibility
they grow from the ground?
Well... yeah... at least initialy, i have not tried to disconect them from the bottom walls
I have to try like that once i find seeds again
just curious whats yall average harvest per crypt on these muddy pile scrap for iron?
Depends on multiple factors, sometimes the chests are loaded with iron
My first play thru of mistlands (killing queen, ashlands wasnt out) I didnt unlock anything magical, and this playthru I am being a mage, and wow... What a different experience im having (once i finally unlocked it all) Getting to this point was a journey, but now i feel like a god
the average is not enough
that longship full of iron? yeah that aint enough
ive gone through 2 longships of iron, gonna need to go farm a 3rd
thats like a whole set worth a few iron tools and full armour
but not enough to upgrade anything
and tbh id would skip the iron chainmail
late game building is my biggest drain of iron
and keep the rot chest harnesk
ug. i really want to rebuild my base but i really don't want to tear it all down lol
might be mentally easier to just build something fresh somewhere else. I've got a nice little Yagluth altar on an island, completely spawnproofed. Maybe I just start building something cool there
i dont plan to upgrade my base to iron stuff yet, stone and wood does great job already plus im still located in meadows so its a waste of resource anyways.
im not even using iron armor, went with full root armor instead
yeah, this is a late game build. i was like you before. never using iron for building, too valuable. but post-Fader, well, I can get all this stuff easy, lets play with it
Just keep a portal in a mega swamp so you can quickly port back and forth from crypt to base repeatedly as needed.
There isn't really a roadmap from after 2021, Anyone know what the devs are planning other than the deep north biome? I'm super interested in new stuff in current biomes or just game-wide mechanics.
scuttlebut is that Deep North is next, then some whole-world tweaking and improvements before 1.0.
No
And MAYBE something done to the ocean but we don't really have anything confirmed about that
That would be cool
Its kind of barren at the moment, which does also have a vibe to it
But there probably won't be an ocean boss
And it's still speculation.
DN is literally the only thing that is confirmed
I've enjoyed some gorgeous starry nights while looking for serpents.
Yeah there is something attractive about the emptyness of the ocean.
especially when you can find a big open space.
Anyways, what do you guys think is the best biome and why is it the black forest?
without too many islands around.
Ewww...i'm so sick of the black forest, its only second from the bottom next to swamp for me..
greydwarves ruined it for me
Those blue and yellow hues look so good tho
Meadows > Mistlands > Plains > Mountains > Ocean > Ashlands > Black forest > Swamp
aesthetically ashlands might be at the bottom i just meant overall cuz i found ashlands fun
Black forest > Plains > Meadows > Mountains > Swamp
I haven't played the last 2 yet
I'd be fine with them if they'd just make up their damn mind
They run at me and then sprint away when I go to cut them down
that is very annoying yeah
Even boars are braver, they fight me head-on
Ooh a standing target! let's attack! "Whack"
Oh? he's tougher than I thought, I'mma re-assess his weakness from a distance. Oh he's looking away! I'mma go in for another attempt! "Thud"
Still not dead... interesting. I will watch for a weakness from a distance again. Another opportunity! moving in! "whack"
Viking cuts the greyling down.
Greyling: I thought I'd have more time to win this battle π’
I seem to not be able to find tuna
Im finding more schools of trollfish than tuna in the ocean
I beat Fader about a month ago, renovated by main base just in time to start testing public test, went on a small trophy run (including refighting all bosses to get displable trophies), renovated my base roof to hang the trophies, completed the Reto quest yesterday, and an am kind of farting around half-heatedly thinking about collecting my remaining trophies (seeker soldier, cultist, serpemt, bonemaw).
In my second Queen fight, I found another citadel (like I said, I haven't even found ONE seeker soldier trophy let alone three to repsawn her in the first citadel). It's a sweet location and next to an infested mine and so I think maybe this is a good place to hunt for soldiers while collecting iron and copper (I can't believe I'm so into the dverger build pieces/furniture).
So I decide rehabbing this citadel is a good idea for a base. I setup a stonecutter, start repairing, and from the outside...are there rooms inside? WTF? I go to the citadel floor next to the entrance and remove some floor blocks and jump down.
Holy cow! I'm slow, so this is not news to anyone else but there's a sweet dverger lair there!
I walk around and see the wood panel on the left side stairs that I'd never noticed before. π€¦ββοΈ
π
Odin! spawn me tuna!
also theres so many damn rocks in the shores near the black forest
I have now seen more serpents than tuna in this world
Ashlands say hi.
"Grausten? I hardly met him!"
I pray to Odin every day that he may strike down the annoying foe for good
OMG, just got a seeker solder trophy. Not even at the new Mistlands base I just mentioned but my Ashlands forward base/sap/shroom farm.
Your kind have been abandoned by the old gods. I have no need of your witchcraft, for I am already blessed by the allfather
Lay waste elsewhere, lest I lay waste to your toilet bruh
so it seems that tuna do not school like coral cod and pufferfish
The ashlands of the ocean were one of the least enjoyable times i've ever had in this game...
ashlands of the ocean, yep..
I don't understand "Hey here's a new ship" immediately met with "Hey here's a reason to never feel like sailing ever again because we will make you hate sailing."
I don't get why the spires were added π€·ββοΈ
lol....yeah....i literally liked nothing about traversing that trash..
im on maybe my 3rd playthrough and 1st solo one. I've finally made a treetop base in the swamp and i gotta say, I love it.
simple the existence of t r o l l s
i really do enjoy the game, i dont know why i waited this long too buy it
wait you can mod it?
i was just asking about that feature, i wasnt planing on starting a discussion
It makes life difficult, but I love building bases in the spires so I can hear that sweat ashlands ocean theme on repeat
is it possible to tp my friends?
Use the command recall to teleport all players to you. You can put a name after the command to teleport a specific player.
I've wanted to play viking game past couple days but every time I grab my handheld, I open hades 2. AAAA
https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/831071697817305128 for PTB related discussion.
i dont have access to that channel lol
is the straw hat a ptb item or just a already in the base game item for hilder
so then, get the roles in id:customize
then yould gain access to the ptb channel
oh cool thanks
Like @fair cairn adviced. I suggest you delete your PTB related comments here so people don't get unwanted spoilers.
oh sorry i didnt think about that
No greater harm done, there are pinned messages in almost every other channel from mods that tell us to keep PTB related discussion in appropriate channels.
Hello
how do i level my station level?
Dear development team, please bring out the new patch tomorrow so that I can play it with my dad in my fall-holidays :)
You need to build crafting station upgrades found in building hammer's "crafting" options, hower your mouse over them and they will tell which workstation they upgrade.
thx man
i put down a portal in a dark forest and like 1 second later a troll, a 1* troll and 2 greydwarf brutes spawn, am i cursed?
Nope - they just donβt like us π
I've been avoiding exploring swamps for the past week xd
iβd rather just start fresh in a new world when the witch arrives
Does anybody else wear a heavy helmet with their mage armor?
Yeah I think it is common because the helmet give less eitr regen than other piece while the heavy helm also doesn't slow you down
Why? Have you explored everything?
has the effect of bouncing into objects been increased?
Since when?
at any point really
I don't recall anything about it.
is marking the map double click now?
do i need more refined eitr for the ashlands?
always was?
nah I really recall dropping marks too often by single clicks
Yep, always double click.
that sounds like a mouse problem
Some armor pieces from Ashlands require Refined Eitr.
are starred Grey dwarf brutes a thing ?
Yep.
Tho i dont think i encoutered many of them π
I just encountered two with 2 stars
π
absolutely brutal.
I would say that is quite rare
How far along are you in the game? (i.e. what biome/bosses have you beat?)
All of them pretty much
I swear my server is messed up then. I just got to the Mistlands and I will run into two or three 2 star brutes, 3-5 shaman all the time. My buddy is convinced I did something by accident when I setup my dedicated server. π
Do you have very hard combat selected by any chance? it increases the chance for stared enemies
No, the only thing I changed from default I think was the password and world name and turned it off for public when I set it up.
A week ago we turned on teleporting metals when we hit the Mistlands because it was taking too much real life time sailing all over the place and we both have families.
To be fair, I think I just have a glitchy world. I get weird spawning issues all the time.
What are some of those other spawning issues?
I've had graydwarfs spawn inside our main house, Had a fouls smell and cauldron stirring event at the same time at the base, I've had NPC's spawn inside rocks. Items disappear from chests, forges, kilns, etc. The list goes one. It's become a running joke in our little gaming clan that my server is haunted.
None of my buddies have been able to replicate what they see on my server on their personal worlds or servers.
and i've never seen instances of such events that couldn't be explained in all my time as a helper
I'm sure there are explanations to them, I just haven't dug deep enough for all of them. The things disappearing we have somewhat narrowed down to a server de-sync/lag issue. If we can start overstacking a kiln for example getting 12/10 in we know the server is about to have issues and we all save, log out for a couple of seconds and log back in. Sometimes I have to shut the server down and restart the computer, but that only happens once or twice a month. Things go back to normal and we continue on playing. We can sometimes go for hours and have no issues, sometimes a few minutes. It's the nature of gaming.
Anyway, didn't mean to hijack the thread from Quineloe about his two star brutes question.
I do hope the bog witch update comes soon to life... i am getting a little tired of avoiding swamp at all costs π
Iβm going to need more iron soon. Waiting for bog witch update for that too, as my explored swamps are out of iron.
i have marked so many locations where i could see swamp trees in the distance... i am just running around exploreing as a means of avoiding the inevitable fight with yagluth. Not that i fear that fight but i want to up some of my levels before i need to go to the mistlands π
Go for mistlands iron π
I might. I could use copper also. I think armor sword in mistlands is 50/50 iron copper split
I meant more the mistlands bridges/aquaducts π they have quite a bit of already smelted iron
Who agrees that Zil and Thungr kinda make a beautiful combo.
True! I think I may have a few of those marked on my map also.
Yeah, the brute force and the thinking brain and magic
when will the update for the main game come out?
We donβt really know yet, but it will be soon I imagine.
(Assuming youβre talking about the one in PTB, not Deep North)
Soooo true
Thanks
π
I'm just playing with a newbie and I just wanted to have a chance to see a new NPC before we go into his first swamps.
fists on lvl 40 now 55 with the fenris on... the fleshrippers really pack a punch π
How do you folks tend to use the berserkir axes?
I struggle a lot with the endlag on the attack animation
Hack and slash until everything is dead (or don't move).
The issue with that is charred warriors. You can't stagger them with overwhelming damage before they can get an attack off.
Okay on serious note - I sometimes take the first 2 attacks on air and connect with the 3rd and 4th double attacks.
So I either have to bait out and attack and parry it, or attempt to chip it between attacks. Both of which can be troublesome with larger groups of enemies.
Alright i gotta try this, actually quite smart
Are you using regular Berserkir axes?
Nah, thundering axes, they're exceptionally powerful
Okay, you have managed to find gems! Thunder axes are quite good for groups thanks to the chain lightning.
I also like the Primal axes a lot. Rooting effect on enemies is super useful, then you can go behind and keep hitting.
Yea my group has cleared two fortresses. I've beat the ashlands solo before as a mage, but this is my first time in the ashlands as a warrior, I'm running a double stamina build with full asksvin armor
Im planning on making a primal ashfang
Bows feel like they've fallen off a ton, thanks to omnipresent pierce resist though.
Nothing that Frost arrows won't fix. Root Fang is good too.
My skill is also only level 20, and I'm aware that bows are very skill level dependant
There is that Root Ripper (Crossbow) too, which is slower to shoot tho.
Yea good point, I'm gonna switch back to frost arrows. I originally switched to charred arrows because they finally had higher raw damage than frost arrows and were really cheap. But it seems like frost arrows are still the way to go
I find with a stamina build that I prefer regular bows over crossbows
Charred arrows can work better on enemies that are not resistant against Pierce (Asksvin, Valkyrie)
I don't really like the idea of using a bow against asksvin
Why? First shot from afar and you get the backstab bonus and possibly stagger.
The problem is I don't usually notice them until their chasing after me
And if you aren't sniping them from a distance you can absolutely destroy asksvin with the thundering axes
Yeah, you can. They do have quite large alarming range tho, I agree.
Himmin afl to stagger them and then axes' secondary
I can try that. I'm afraid that the stagger might not last long enough though
I am already running a himmin afl anyways
True, Himminafl is great weapon even in Ashlands.
Goated weapon indeed
Im surprised it's so underated by a lot of the content you see on valheim
Demolisher is also good, for big bonks.
It saved my life during my ashlands landing. Is now between my most appreciated weapons. Wouldn't have survived that massive onslaught without it
I've made a demolisher but it's not my personal favorite by any means
Demolisher is one of my favorite weapons.
Idk the heavy knockback is useful, certainly, however it just does so little damage i find it boring to just sit there pressing M1 over and over again
Pole arms though... pretty much do the same thing with the m3 but much more fun imo
I just appreciate the weapon but it's not one of my favourites.
I would build an altar to treasure it but not use it anymore. Also that movement penalty is dangerous
Do a co-op run with a group of Vikings only using two handed hammers. Call it: super smash brothers
ive seen some people say the queen glitches out of the arena, is that patched yet?
Patched long time ago.
alright nice
The mistlands has so many amazing weapons honestly, pretty much only the spine snap and jotun bane aren't the goat
Spine Snap actually is quite good against Charred that are weak against Spirit damage. Add Frost arrows and π
Jotun Bane suffers from being 1 handed and dealing partly poison which most enemies in Ashlands are immune to.
This is true, but compared to the draugr fang for most purposes, the competition is surprisingly even
Especially when draw stamina is one of the more important bow stats
they really need to chill w the rain man
Iron gate, add a wet proof cape and my life is yours!
that'd be pretty nice
Maybe the linen cape could be wet resistant so it actually does something?
No, keep the linen cape worthless. A Wet proof cape must be made from serpent scales.
Honestly though not a bad idea
Why should the linen cape be kept worthless?
And as they say in real life, all ugly things must be kept worthless.
/s
I do agree that the linen cape needs some sort of love atm, but I think if a cape were to be wetproof it shouldn't have frost resistance
And i think placing a wetproof cape at mountain level is ideal, because then if you were particularly determined you could get wetness proof in the swamps where it's the most useful
Being able to negate the main environmental danger of Swamps seems OP.
Yea it's probably a little bit too strong if it's accessible pre bonemass
Linen cape already has no frost resistance
True
who decided to give the queen so much health
I assume devs did π
Itβs only 25% more than yagluth. The boss after that has a much bigger increase.
i guess the health itself isnt really the problem its just that most of the time im not actually attacking the boss
and then he gets a lot of time to heal
The queen is much more manageable as a mage or in multi-player from my experience
i tried being a mage with 2 eitr food and a health food but it wasn't working so now im doing melee
and i can see how multiplay would be much easier
It might actually be better to get stam food instead π
You donβt need any health food if you have a staff of protection
i thought it was using too much eitr
and i felt fine on stamina so maybe ill do three eitr foods
If you feel you werenβt spending much time attacking the queen, stamina will help a lot more
Melee queen is a breeze.
People just don't bring the best mead in the game for some reason π€·ββοΈ
Lingering stamina? Major healing?
Tasty.
The melee is pretty easy even without it
I forgot about that, I think Iβve only used it in combat once. I carry it with me, but never feel like using it because then Iβd need to make more.
True, but Tasty giving you full stamina bars in a single pause between boss attacks with no cooldown is unmatched.
And makes boss fights shorter.
And it stacks with Lingering π
Whereas Lingering blocks the other stamina pots.
Who needs the other stamina meads anyway
People who don't understand Tasty π€·ββοΈ
Berserkir mead enjoyers
i think the game felt that i was enjoying my time too much bcz 3 draugr archers appeared from nowhere behind the trees and sniped me while i was trying to set up a nighttime camp
PTB content in PTB channels π
Canon event
i think i just bricked my save bcz i ragequit and my world didnt save but my character did so now im floating in the middle of the ocean far from anything π«
oh actually i can still go back w the portal thank goodness im so prepared
my world did save but my characters position didnt
forgot i can make food in that game and not eat boar/deer meat
Just don't forget to make food irl too.
Iβm preparing to enter the mistlands, but Iβm torn on which black metal weapon to make. Any suggestions?
They are all pretty much equal.
So whichever you prefer or whichever you have the highest skill in.
Then get the polearm, and you will get plenty of skill in it from fighting.
but will I actually deal viable damage with zero skill?
Yes.
You could always train, go to the previous biome and start killing things
ok thanks, gonna be tank
I also have frostner, will the black metal weapons better then it?
You should genuinely stop concerning yourself with better/best.
Equipment is secondary to food in this game.
Frostner will do slightly more damage to some enemies in mistlands, and slow enemies, but has high knockback and low stagger so it may or may not be better depending on your playstyle
Iβm actually really good on food, and supplies in general. Itβs just a matter of what should I make my main loadout.
not till they test it themselfs it seems
It is your world.
You are the sole person who decides what you should and should not do.
true and based
Our opinion on what you should do is irrelevant.
hmmm
Porcupine is a good choice, the secondary attack has high damage, knockback and stagger so it works in many situations
minmaxing is no fun
I must ponder my orb and come to a decision
Cant get cross play working; everytime I click join button on xbox it takes me to game pass screen so frustrated read every article on the internet and no solution. please help if you know something
What game pass screen is it taking you to? Valheim isnβt on game pass now.
To use online multiplayer for paid games on xbox consoles you need a game pass core, standard or ultimate subscription
bought one copy on xbox and another on steam to crossplay
but the game and gamepass too?
buy*
"crossplay" means that an xbox player can play with a pc player.
It has nothing to do with you owning the game on separate platforms and your one, same account being transferred between them.
so for clarification: buy two copies and subscribe to game pass,
what do i name my first boar?
list is long
yes, name it list is long
Don't. Because the first 2 you tame you want to be the first 2 you kill after they make more.
omg loz, someone had to do it loz
I always keep the first two and kill the others
They will continually try to walk back to where you got them.
New ones don't.
normally one in mr other mrs so i know who Not to kill when starting
time for swamp
Anyone KNOW a PVP valheim server?
pvp server not places on the map for pvp contests
pvp in valheim is boring imo
They don't walk back there, they run back there faster than Bolt
Valheim isnβt balanced for pvp at all
So true. I usually get one to chase me back to pen, then slaughter the starred one from the Vegevisir once I have starred offspring.
Armor is too good for PvP, only big damage are impactful but it's still fun
Any attack without high stagger is useless because the other player will just parry it, and players are likely to easily dodge and punish any high-stagger attacks you do anyway, so trying to hit the other player is generally a bad idea which isnβt good for pvp.
Easy. BoarNose. Or BoarNose1.
what's each part of the game called? i know the first 3 are the stone age, bronze age, and iron age, but what would the last 4 be called?
silver age
If you're forcing the "ages" then it would be Silver Age, Blackmetal Age, Eitr Age, Flametal Age
But that's only if you're forcing ages instead of just Meadows -> Black Forest -> Swamp -> Mountain -> Plains -> Mistlands -> Ashlands
I think there's an argument for the ages naming convention but it doesn't match the biomes 1:1
Isn't that what I just did? π
Id say it goes more like stone age > bronze age > iron age > eitr age
Silver and Blackmetal mean nothing to you?
don't think they were ever officially called that~~, and we're all iron age vikings anyway :>~~
Yea pretty much
Them personally meaning nothing to you doesn't mean you can ignore their existence when thinking of naming conventions π€·ββοΈ
I like to think of it in terms of new building pieces being unlocked with major crafting stations
progression steps are most officially separated by boss kills and entering a new biome
Most people following the "ages" are doing so in terms of "materials used for armor/weapons/equipment"
so i think simply calling it the name of the biome is most accurate and most intuitive
Then there's an argument for the artisan table and plains progression but I don't see that as important as unlocking the forge, stonecutter, and black forge
The inventions likely wont match history... When was wheel invented, when first ships and so on. Probably not in the stone age.
#screenshots HYPE ... Now we get to explore new content
Can I angle wood poles
They should already have angled poles in your build list
would anybody want to join my loby?
is farming nests (mob spawns) a good way to level up weapons?
"Best" way to level weapons is Bonemass.
thanks
Just build the crapiest-tier version of the weapon you want and do not upgrade it.
Whack until you get bored of whacking.
I LOVE VALHEIM
We all bow to the word of they who call themself "Meowjesty!"
Does MY Blood Magic go up, when MY Skeletons with MY Shield on get hit?
Cos i noticed, when my daughter gave me Staff of Protection, and I took damage, my blood magic went up
Even tho id never used a staff
Has anyone else used Valheim map ? It's been taking sooo long via website but semi decent on my phone. Wondering if anyone else has that issue.
Shield breaking gives exp to the player that had the shield
Your blood magic goes up when a bubble shield on you breaks, when your summons (skeletons) hit something and when a bubble shield on your skeletons breaks
are surtling farms in the ashlands the way to go for coal?
not anymore since the ashlands update - they don't have surtlings anymore π and instead they have a loooot of more dangerous things that don't drop any coal
Cut trees
boo
Surtling spawner in swamp.
bring stacks of wood to ashlands, and set them on fire. they then burn to stacks of coal
What do Skeletons eat? My summoned one says its hungry
maybe the same thing you do? try dropping some food on the ground
The more we were summoned, the more we began to realize...
The drink would not satisfy. Food turned to ash in our mouths.
And all the pleasurable company in the world could not slake our lust.
Skeleton looks at your pittance on the ground.
We are cursed men, Ms. Turner.
Driven by greed once we were, but now... we are consumed by it.
||You best start believe in ghost stories young viking, YOU'RE IN ONE!||
there are some guide about cocking ? wich food is better for wich moment of the game ?
Food sheet is pinned in this channel.
ty
Does anyone have a good tar farm design? The tar grind is realπ
Thanks captain obvious.
Each pit yields a couple hundred. How much do you need?
oh they give you more now?
huh
So you're not draining them...
Ok. And the massive globs give like a crapton.
Should be 3-4 of them at the bottom.
Plus all the medium globs.
okok
So does magic just outclass melee and bows once it gets introduced
Or is there still a decent reason to go melee or bows
Outclass how?
It's good, but I don't believe one is just outright better than the other (melee enjoyer here).
Magic is nice because you get the safety of range without needing to rely on arrows, but it severely cuts your survivability
Eitr foods dont grant much health or stamina and the eitr armors are pretty weak
Ah so that's the big tradeoff is balancing eitr regen stuff with health/armor buffs
Glass cannon big damage but low health
Pretty much
Full mage builds are strong, usually running SEE food setup because you want at least 1 stamina to make sure you can still run/dodge when you need to.
They are very position-dependent though, and if you're good at that they can seem god-tier with the amount of AoE damage you pump out.
@gray sand Im letting my children sail us there, and im not saying nothing about what ive heard, we aint even gonna reach land before dying π
Oh dying ain't the problem.
It's the damn spires that I don't understand why they were added at all.
If they can kill us we will die, he cant even sail straight π
Sailing straight isn't an option once you get to the spires that surround the whole biome.
Then hes the perfect candidate for the job
π
New boat is good.
I have a bunch of mods, but the only one I think that affects building is BuildCameraHCE mod.
Me and a friend both have it, but I can build freely far from my avatar however he can not. Even if he enables build camera mode he still can't build far from himself. Does he have some sort of bug?
Still havent found any of the bad stuff yet, son got us lost and all he had to do was head south π
The comms of my 9 and 12 year old make this enjoyable
Imma just sitting here laughing
I don't find sailing there that bad, it's not exactly a picnic there. The Ashlands sailing music makes it feel quite awesome IMO.
I swear, landing on this beach, must of been how the Anzac troops felt going to Europe in WW2...
Lost my son an daughter in 3 seconds
It is exactly like that ππ€
Good luck!
Focus on establishing a secure landing zone and building some kind of base so you can hide from the dead π
I managed to get a portal down, and a shield thing, so the kids could come back, and we managed to esatblish a 1x1 m sqaure we can call our own, but i love the fact that the attacks are non stop, seems like theres ALOT of materials that we'll be needing to gather / figure out what they do, HYPE
just a small tip, something i had to come to terms with as i am a material hoarder. you in fact do not need to pick up everything on the ground in the ashlands, you will fill up and never get to explore
Good morning Valheim
Least my inventory will be well stocked π
I disagree.
Just stack all them materials into boxes or stacks of 50 on the ground for wood and stone
You can never have too much material if you are a builder
Your reaction to that was probably:
https://tenor.com/fi/view/thousand-yard-stare-gif-16160167619703594661
i get that, but there is so much stuff on the ground, if you pick it all up you will never get to explore
Well, you donβt have to pick it up straight away
But I get you π
the ammount of coal, wood, grausten that just naturally end up on the ground
realquick, things like twigs and thistles keep respawning through my floor of my house.
is htere a way to stop that?
you wold need to go back to dump your inventory every 5 min
Build somewhere else or build higher up.
Itβs honestly the WORST for me when a blob explodes and pops a big Grausten vein
I just canβt stand seeing the materials going to waste π€£
I HAVE to pick it all up ππ€
for real?
No, I enjoy directly lying to people who ask genuine questions.
Oh wait...
Sticks, twigs, rocks, flowers etc Ah d designated spawning spots
yea thats what im getting at tho, if you do want to grab everything, you give up time for exploration, which is already scarce with all the fighting that you do
I know π
I just canβt stand leaving the stuff to lie around and despawn
Iβll rather come back after some exploring and pick everything up after than leave it π€
yea i think that is the good way to do it
And we have new toys for increasing carry weight now. Fader and meganjord are so good π₯°
I'm kinda same π And they tend to explode those underground platforms under ruins that drop even more Grausten.
Youβre giving me ptsd my guy π€£
Watching those Grausten pop up with a 1000 yard stare
Must. Collect⦠EVERYTHING!!!
AGAIN!
π€£
You should see my ashland fort raids.
Invariably I have a pile of extra Grausten just lying on the floor that I portal back home after π€
Speaking ofβ¦
That pile is getting dubiously largeβ¦
Time to start a new building project π
Building just for sake the Grausten will not stay unused π€
At least I will never run out of portal materials π€
Maybe Iβll try redoing my original base with a nice graustein coating π€
Nah it was def more of a face palm, like why did I even waste materials bringing you with me π€£
I did that in my world when I played Ashlands PTB, I replaced the wooden/log walls in my main base with Grausten wall pieces and roof ππ»
Dad scolding how they could have been more of use π€ can imagine
They make good meat shields I guess..
I'm sitting here wanting to play Ashlands, but our rule is all 3 play together or none, and they in bed...
Solo server time I guess
are starred trolls larger and faster?
i dont think so
Im sure starred mobs are bigger
I don't think those big creatures like Trolls are larger but smaller mobs are larger with stars than their non star variants.
Donβt break the sacred vow of making a promise to your kids man π
how long boars tame?
30 minutes
It makes the best memories of playing together β€οΈ
All tameable mobs take 30 minutes
Hi everyone, how you're doing ?
We just defeated two fortress yesterday night and we discover the new magical weapons
my god
They good for you?
We have not tested them yet in a real fight situation but they were impressive against necks lol, I think the Trollstav and Staff of the Wild may be rly usefull in the Ashlands. Don't you think ? What your opinion about it i'm curious
I'm more into melee/hybrid style instead of pure Eitr user but those are good.
Staff of the Wild is busted. The Roots hit hard, they can deal backstab bonus damage (since enemies don't target them directly) and can immobilize enemies.
Trollstav is also useful, there are people who absolutely love those two staves.
Thanks for your feedback, we are playing with 4 players, so everyone has his own speciality and my friend is a mage so they're for him
The downside of Trollstav tho is that they are not allied to anyone (including players) but they work well as distractions and battling enemies.
Did you craft Dundr?
Nothing
do draugrs take extra damage from hits to their heads? it seems they do
They do not
Not best for big groups for damage dealing but it has quite a knockback so keeping enemies away with that is quite good. But it shines against bigger targets and especially those who are weak against Lightning.
like Valkyries, then ?
It is basically Magical Lightning shotgun
the only weakspot before mistlands is a troll's head (which was added by the mistlands update)
Morgen are weak against Lightning, but against Valkyrie it is quite good too.
bet, ty
If you find more Bloodstones from other Fortresses and have no other use for them (if anyone of your group don't craft Blood weapons) you could try Dundrπ
With right use it can be devastating weapon
i wish there was a way to selectively increase drops (for example mining and chopping only) cuz like i dont wanna get 2 carrots per, on 1.5x π
so throw half of them in an obliterator
I'm not saying that i'm on holidays and that's the only week of the winter I can fully play Valheim and that would be the perfect timing to release the bog witch update but ... yes i'm saying it ποΈ
(i'm kidding, dont ban me please)
are there any general idea of approx. when 1.0 will be like 2025?
probably never
Not really, i dont believe even devs have much of an idea when the 1.0 will be yet π
what is this Sparkler weapon? no info about it in game or in wiki
Just a fun thing, no real purpose other than looking pretty π
"an weapon"
tbh i didnt know you can attack with it π
i was just poking fun at the grammar
Oh true, it should be "a weapon" right?
yea
Fixed π
Will i need surtling cores a lot past mountains? i got 57 of them and may dump them and give myself coal through debug for them, they are just taking up 6 or so slots in my chests
I am thinking i may need them for like the black forge but i doubt i would need many
surtling geysers in swamps are infinite sources so i wouldn't worry about trashing some for now as long as you keep like 20 around
yeah, they are just a byproduct there
Put some in bonfire π
the black forge doesn't cost surtling cores, but the blast furnace iirc does
why?
You will see π
β¨ because fun β¨
gonna try this somewhere other than my base
On most of my playthrough I end up with about 60 portals on the map, I obviously do not link all of them to my base and change the name instead
for what it's worth: i guarantee it's a safe thing to do
Oh dont worry π its not anything destructive π
but that adds up to a lof of cores and at least half of those are after the mountsin
oftentimes stuff not immediately useful now, or even that seems in surplus, you will absolutely be glad if you save it for later--for example, stone gets devoured in recipes or raising terrain, so when you're not building with it it can accumulate super fast e.g. mining, but then when you do wanna build with it, you can easily burn through several black metal chests full fast
that's why it's never a bad idea to build what seems like excess storage and save things--surtling cores I'd definitely say are one because you just don't get enough of them for them to ever be really trash, even when it feels like you're sitting on a surplus more than you'll ever need, you might be surprised (they do get used for instance in a very popular lighting build piece, 1 ea. plus portals, both smelters, kilns, and maybe a few other odds and ends I'm leaving out)
generally i agree but surtling cores are very high on the list of things that eat up storage space like crazy and very low on list of demand
4 for each ovens
fire spread should be on by default tbh
have they anounced when Bog witch is going live?
like if you need more, that's a trivial thing, either check on a geyser twice or raid some more burial chambers, which gives you coins as a byproduct
stone on the other hand, that is eaten up so damn fast by building, and by so much more than just a few structures you'll place about 1-20 of per playthrough
I would highly advise agaisn't throwing out cores especially if you only have 60 of them, they are very useful for portals that will save you a ton of time. I would also highly advise you from using cheats. I know it is extremely common for the regular here to always tell people to cheat instead of helping them but don't listen to them
60? i've never run out from more than 20 as a base stash
@plush umbra yeah, as long as you have a decent supply on hand, you can replenish or supplement that way pretty easy as needed, I just also find it so easy to build more chests to hold on to MOST things, I generally only obliterate trophies with less use value that I've already accumulate a stack of, and also the pukeberries (and boss resummoning items like seeds that you just get stacks and stacks of too)
they don't usually
basically once they've squashed all the major bugs, it'll drop as a live (main branch) update, IIRC without much advance notice at all
hopefully this week then. has PTB been buggy?
other than just, that the PTB seems to have reached a place of less buggy
i just like to keep trophies as a tally, they're an uncommon-to-rare collector's object for the most part, so collect them i will~
for the more rare mobs definitely, think even if i get to 20/20 golem, i'd have a hard time mentally justifying throwing #21 into the olbiterator
I always keep at least 1 of each trophy i get π but i dont hunt for most of them specificaly
but I don't feel the need to hold onto 500 grewdwarf trophyies
i think the mountain terrain is more of a hinderance to my enemies than me bc i hear the wolf howls but i don't see any wolves
oh yeah, everyone needs a building whose walls are covered in 1 of every single available trophy
~~i have a black metal chest for each trophy back home
~~
xD
Nah chest suffices π
obviously not filled, but i prepare~
lulululululul
One for each trophy? π
per trophy type that is
...i hope i don't have to reformat it because ashlands have more enemies than usual
i haven't updated the castle to the ashlands update yet
waiting for the damn dirt lines to be fixed
Is the deep north going to be the last biome, unless they do anything east and west but that would mean a new world
DN is gonna be last
the PTB seems mostly pretty good for me, but I did notice and see a lot of reports of a a few major bugs:
- workstations cooking without fire beneath them
- controllers having some issues
- feasts not removing/reseting to 10/10 uses after being eaten down to 0/10 then relogging
-# i could point to a few more but eh
yeah, but how LONG it will take to resolve those π€· i certainly couldn't hazard a guess
for all I know, they've already more or less figured out how to fix all of them, and have code mostly written to do so, and just haven't released it yet, because there's some last 10% that they wanna send all as a package
imagine for the final boss you are on the yggdrazil branch fighting loki or some shit
OR they could have a whole lot more time still before they figure out the solution that works without breaking other stuff
there's a couple i haven't spotted any reports for yet
So, my friend and I have both died in the middle of the Mistlands, far away from our base. Everytime We've tried to get our stuff back we've died, what do we do?
and considering how many ashlands bugs are still not fixed, i'm not so confident anymore
are you opposed to cheats?
i would say try ignore everything and b line to the corpse and just use health food to face tank
also setup portal nearby for faster reattempts, bonemass power can help with the tanking, eikthyir alternatively for nimbleness to get there--worse comes to worse, you can appeal to others for help for body retrieval or (more efficiently, if you're willing) just using commands to go godmode and get it
Get a portal as close as possible in a safe spot, eat and rest before attempts, go in there with 1 item so worst case scenario you leave a grave and you can use it on the next one to get corpse run that will drastically increase your chance to get your stuff back
i would say bonemass would be better there since you can't run if you are dead
there's an argument to be made for naked unarmed running speed being enough to evade everything but that's assuming you're aware of every attack coming your way, and that you have some peace to put your gear on once you reach it π
so i'd pick bonemass too, as i always do
fenris gear would be good too if you have spare
Oh yeah spare old gear is great for this sort of think
Damn, just hit a bird out out of the sky
-# apologize to it
Odin chose me for a reason
I have a question for those whose first reflex when someone ask a question is to tell them to use developer commands. Did you even wonder how many people you've ruined the game for? Creating this precedent that will be their go to for any hurdle in the future until they lose interest and don't feel any more reward because they are not working for anything anymore.
is anyone like that present?
It will
i just said because i know running through what is effectively a minefield naked is not fun
Every player gotta decide for themselves what will and won't "ruin" the experience
it would be different if it were "hey why can't i find silver well" because there is a more clear cut answer, just find a different mountain or sum
People who lost interest after enabling cheats or people whose reflex it to recommend cheats?
So... It's our fault that people lack the free willpower to not use it every time something mildly inconveniences them?
Lol...
Seriously... Lol
I can't even...
A sort of "compromise" to "hard" cheat, turn difficulty down just temporarily?
Iirc isn't the easiest setting passive enemies?
We offer a potential solution, their choice if they want to or not
If they do and their enjoyment is affected by it then how are we to blame?
I really can't even...
You really can't see it?
in the current context is isn't like they are skipping a core part of game progression either, if they are having enough bother to ask then i don't think it is that outlandish to provide a cheesy/cheaty way to solve that
Just seeing people always recommending cheating and typing the exact cheat they need to enter to get what they want whenever they have a question or face a hurdle is affecting my own enjoyment for the game
It's not just this exemple, it's always the go to
the latter
Yes
While I personally agree that devcommands should be a last resort for offering solutions, I don't think it's healthy to let external discourse affect your own enjoyment of the game. Folks will play how they want, and offer advice from what they know, it being "good" or "bad" advice depends too much on the individual to even pretend like it's a good idea to restrict it.
By all means offer advice that you believe it's valuable, but no need to put down others or let how others talk affect you to that level.
Despite how bad it has gotten? People come here asking how to get fine wood just to be told how to spawn in copper bars and how to enable debugmode. How many people need to tell the same story of how they started to use commands for a minor thing and they kept doing it until they lost all interest before we ask people to tune down that ''solution"
What? The only times i have seen dovcommands recommended is when people come here to ask someone to give them items.
wait for real? Yeah that is not on, i would say to use falling logs or something
I've seen it many times, another exemple is, how do I level elemental magic, the response will always be setmagicskill to 100 or whatever the command is
Those feel like pretty extreme examples~
Certainly not always, most of the times i have seen similar question the stone golem or just playing the game was recommended
yeah, not saying they are cherrypicking, but the possibility is there
i vaguely remember glancing over words like that in #suggestion-discussion but not #valheim-help or #valheim-chat.
granted, i have been pretty distracted~
I'd not be able to say if it's gotten like that either, but even if it did, my point stands that there's no need to put down others for how they choose to give advice.
let's disagree on your premise that there is no bad/potentially hurtful advice that can be given.
Pup, Purebred Of Valhalla β 11/10/2024 14:09
Is there a fast way to help level skills?
Like my bow skill is lacking and hunting a bajillion things with a bow is slow
πΊDerekπΊ β 11/10/2024 14:39
raiseskill bow 100 would work too.
Drey β 22/10/2024 05:57
devcommands > raiseskill bow 100
My answer is clearly alternative to one given. What was that?
After plenty of regular game advice was already given. No need to cherrypick.
Its so nice that you completly disregard the earlier advices given π
I was gonna say it but then 'several people are typing'

It's a good exemple of the reason I said it makes me enjoy the game less. I got 100 bow amongst other on my character, which took a lot of time and consistency as the way you raise skill is by avoiding death most importantly. But seeing people just recommend commands to raise skills so often and just seeing how easy it is just makes me enjoy the game less
And again, letting external discourse affect you is not a very healthy thing.
-# Beyond actual hurtful discourse, like anything that is listed in #rules-and-info that we already go after.
And I am sure it will be worst for the people who listened to that ''advice''
So often you have shown 2 examples 11 days apart and the devcommands advice was given only after several non cheat advises were given...
Yes some people give actual beneficial advice I never denied that
Most people try to give actually benefical advises, but you said that you see "...people always recommending cheating and typing the exact cheat they need to enter to get what they want whenever they have a question or face a hurdle is affecting my own enjoyment for the game."
2 hours pressing m1 or 5 seconds to achieve the same result....is spamming mouse really that important?
not really, i guess it's a test of patience, but it's a singleplayer game so it's ultimately up to whether or not you are gonna feel like you deserved that.
I personally will say that i will rather play the game than either using commands or grind lvls on a specific enemy with specific weapon π€·ββοΈ
then again i don't think you should ever think you need to level a weapon
on actual playthroughs i've never once taken a break to grind skills, i only did that on my main character after yagluth (long before mistlands came out)
You don't and I never recommended anyone spend any time leveling it, just play the game and your skills will reflect how often you die more than anything. Which is a really nice reward/punishment mechanism
I'm not sure what you want at this point.
I want the go to when someone ask for tips or help, to be giving them tips and help instead of recommending using developers commands that may or may not ruin their experience
It is.
For most, not all
Then feel free to give the advice you want to give. But you can't police what other people say.
....but world modifiers exist for death penalty. The loss, and by extension the time needed to get it back, is different for different people
I think the go-to should be to offer all options and let the person decide
I won't but I can tell my opinion that they shouldn't do that because it might ruin some people's experience as many of them have already shared that it happened to them
Between mods and WMs, this game can fit practically anything
I mean... i will always recommend devcommands before mods...
It'll only 'ruin' people's experiences if they chose that route.
I am sure you can find a scenario with a real life situation where suggesting a dangerous route can be very problematic so why even suggest it
You sure do like cherry picking.
I mean... cherries are quite tasty π
it's just information. they could just as easily find it on the wiki
And it is, unlike tips but many still feel the need to share commands
As his father, I would extremely welcome that. I'm also on vacation in 24 hours. That would be perfect for a good father-son time
Also, the moralistic line drawn at dev commands as cheating seems a little contrived. Some skill grinding methods, resource gathering between saves, adjusting the difficulty, and using mods could also be considered cheaty by the same logic. I do some "pure" playthroughs, but I also have a creative world where I'm in godmode and flying and it's always noon. It's a sandbox game and the dev commands are a part of it.
If you buy a game you have the right to enjoy it as you please
of course, as a counterpoint, the author of the Anarchist's Cookbook has regretted writing that book, which mostly put information that could be found elsewhere into one neat and tidy place for people to misuse. But no one is going to get blown up by a dev command spawning in some fine wood.
Well that was interesting read to wake up to.
I am here a lot and i have NEVER read such an answer from any of the regulars
hiya sev~
good morning sevrahn π
Really? I can't even recall once recently where someone ask if they could still find a particular location on their map and not have been told the cheat command to find it on the map.
Only me pretty much anytime someone asks...
I still do not see your point, i have been playing that game for more than 2400 h and i have never ever used one devcommand in all that time... i do know how it works it is all in the wiki but i do not want to. How is anybody here responsible for the lack of willpower in some people that are clearly to impatient to play the game like it is meant to be played and then whine about the game being ruined for them?
And how on earth does it affect YOUR gameplay... everyone is entitled to play the game as they please
What WOULD be the correct answer in that circumstance?
Yes, you can find the location in unexplored areas
That doesn't even answer your own hypothetical question.
the correct answer to the question is give that person as many option on how to do it as you know of, and let them decide what route to take... it is not our decision to make how someone plays the game ... just my opinion
There are folks that can not understand why I never use mods, or why i love the spear so much or why i would not resolve a problem with a dev-command. But that will not affect in any way the way I play the game... it is MY GAME to enjoy and if you get affected by advice to others you might want to consider if that is healty π just my 2 ct. π
I am late to this, but the overall point I have gathered is: "People lack self control. So in a public, online forum, you should not give accurate replies to things and instead give only limited information when asked questions."
And I am not okay with that... we are not responsible for other peoples decisions π Or for taking care of our own health π
To you it is accurate to tell people how to use cheats to achieve what they want instead of telling them the intented way to achieve it?
Telling them both is accurate.
Not instead, along if anything
specifically recently MOST of the "where do I find X" (answer: in unexplored areas) is for the PTB content in which case it's very different too
as far as i can tell it is allways told how to do it in game like it is meant to be... but people immediatly start whining that it is so grindy and hard and they can not do it and if there were no ohter way ...
i think it's generally best to lead with the non-dev command solution.
Correct. Which is why the majority opinion is in favor of displaying all options.
While one person has entered the command:
setpickinglevel π
But it is what it is π€·ββοΈ
to default to using devommands to skip grind you'd normally do in a live version
And it invariably is.
absolutely true, just stating it
However, this has become circular of "yes it is, no it isn't." So I hope we can move on soon.
the most common "here's a dev command you didn't ask for" is when someone is begging for someone to join their server and give them stuff
It is that way most of the time π i dont remember even one time when the devcommands would be mentioned before the normal solution
Oh, I honestly thought we had.
I can't recall once where someone asked for devcommands before being given the devcommand
no, we must resurrect this line of conversation everytime someone knew wakes up π
Well that's nonsense.
hmmmmm... looks like my italian tandem partner is not going to show up...so i am going to start the game... could be i reach the 2500 h today π
I could not agree more!
You agree that what you said was nonsense. Excellent. Let's move on then.
looked it up.. nope not gonna reach 2500h today.. there are 47 h missing π
sometimes discussions here do have a "Monty Python Flying Circus" feel to them...
settopiclevel next
Weeeeellll one of these days i will π
That it is nonsense to give devcommands to someone who never asked for devcommands
That's not what I said.
And now that we have all stated our differing opinions, we can be adults and agree to disagree and move on π
Weeeeeeeell.... maybe if you try REEEEEEALY hard? π
Don't worry I know it make sense to you, I have seen it plenty
In fact most of the biggest offenders are here
opinion wanted: what do you all think of a base taht is on several levels in the plains... like terrasses? I think i might want to make one the terrain is real steep where i am
get off it already... or we will be soon at name calling... offenders... where are we here???? this is not a criminal case and you are not police
The first rule of unnecessarily policing what parts of the game people are discussing is not talking about unnecessarily policing what parts of the game people are discussing.
||Your cops don't drive EVOs?|| π
|nope they don't|
Ok, we get it. You don't like dev commands because you don't have the willpower not to use them. It's not going to stop them being offered to those who might benefit from them. Now can we PLEASE move on.
Valheim cops roll up on their Lox with their blue linen capes.
What's their armor?
rly, it's been over an hour. I literally got some work done while you guys have been here.
i think i saw a valheim cop plant some bukeberries on a dead body
can someone give me an opinion on the question i asked about bases on terrasses?
Probably fenris or asksvin so they can catch the criminals?
Troll hide.
Fenris makes sense, yeah.
Troll is an option too π
for it is blue`?
Indeed π
Sure, tell the one who is not using them that he is unable to not use them?
A terraced base sounds cool. Lots of terraforming though.
You were the one that said it.
And other reasons.
How do yall keep deathsquito's out of plains bases? I haven't wanted to build there because of them
yeah that is what i thought... i usually do low terraform bases... thought i might go for it for a change π
You can make anti-squito fences.
you seal your w indows with glas or ornament and don't walk outside without a weapon or lvl 40 punching π
They get trapped due to their ai pathing.
I've done these quite often. Or just flat bases on terraced terraforming with retaining walls. Good stuff.
i did a large anti-squito fence. but generally i also just put a bunch of workbench/campfires kinda far out to prevent them spawning near my base/walls
Ballista's able to track them?
just surround the base with a lox herd, alternatively they seem to self-delete on windmills
I do not know but i guess it would with the right trophy
But i dont think they are accurate enough to actually be good for squitos
they also tend to selfdelete on bonfires π had 2 coming at me both flew right into the fire
that is my usual way to make sure i do not get disturbed to much π
oh yeah bonfires are amazing--someone else suggested them for bat raids too, and it works like a charm
joh just stand next to them and the bats light themselves on fire π
Sneaky cops
ohhhh i do so want to go on recording for my youtube but i am 5 Episodes ahead already and the bog-witch will be out while i am still yapping about i wish it would come soon ... so i shall refrain from that and play for my own enjoyment only
Nah I have it;
trench
Fill with enemies hostile to squitos
cover with cage/floors
Layer over with birch tree stumps
squitos can never get through.
I've never really had a problem with squitoes. Don't make bases where they spawn, or cover their spawn points with spawnproofing.
Whenever I dig a trench, I enjoy filling it with spawn TarLiquid
I see what you did there.
i just kill them if they show up π it is not like they are hard to get dead...
I made a very effective slowing surface?
the last time i dug a trench was 2200h of playing ago... i usually do not have strong defences π I am not at home much... you know... exploring the world... if you are not at home: no raids
ValHomeless
and if i have a raiid fo hunting out and about i go home... no raid at home either π
i usually get away with a 1 m high wall prevents them from getting in on the rare occations i have to deal with a raid π
I have went from being scared for my life in the swamp to feeling like the righteous fist of odin
it do be like that
I think it is the silver sword and dopeness of the wolf fur cape that makes me feel like that
i think the lore's pretty interesting as is
yeah the lore is really interesting, all i know about it is like one embr video though (mountains is the furthest i have got)
why so many people like Plains as a biome? I find it very... well "plain" π
This is something Valheim does very well. Not just in swamps but every biome.
pretty, beautiful music, opens up a lot of building possibilities with tar, lox
open, good mats maybe, might be closer to POIs than the meadows or something
I like the space you got to build things without flattening out everything first like in forest
Daresay a good mistlands base would be sick
i see
and i like i can have a base next to the mist and mountain and swamp all at once π
Also, plains was the last biome for a long time.
Easy to build and getting blackmetal is a breeze as it's just coming to you on a regular basis
Because Lox are the cutest and the fluffiest of beasties!!!
...and... FINEWOOD!!!
also plenty of needles to make arrows
and Β΄heaps of finewood and stone to build
and grow all the crops up to there in that spot
yeah, i struggle with that with my meadows base
I think the Mistlands looks nicer though
Also you can grow everything other than Mistlands shrooms. So you can have 90% of your farming in a single location.
in fact they are the only beasties i do care to tame ... love them a ton
if you can find a plains bordering a mistlands, that's the sweet spot
might do a base tour but i can't post media in this channel
i mean yea.. easy access to lot of materials, but nothing interesting happening there too much imo.. like no dungeons (if i dont count the tower) or such, only camps, tar pits and smaller towers
I found a patch of plains that has mist to the left, swamp to the right mountain to the third side and coast on the forth side... PERFECT location to see a lot of shennanigans happen
There will never be much happening in an area, that is why you are forced to just explore
Ok, but is "dungeons" a criteria for your home base?
And if so... how?
perfection
"Not much happening" -> perfect for home bases.
mistlands
well, dungeons are not everywhere.. i was always thinking of black metal mines or something like that.. as it would explain where do they get the metal
As long as you can find a place where you aren't completely blinded
If you want action just find a spot bordering at least 2 different biomes and watch them duke it out from your balcony
Green thing drop green metal.
But again, mining is a criteria for home base? How?
Is black metal their bones?
Mining isn't renewable.
So once mined, you'd... move your entire base to another mining place?
nope they have it in their pockets like other folks carry money π
Hooman have iron in blood.
Fuling...
could be used as a cool cellar after π
I always just assumed they were metal
Tar pits make for the best cellars as they bypass the normal height limit on digging.
Didn't make much sense to me either where it came from so I just concluded their bones were made of metal and I was happy with that
why is it that i always find the great mountains after i scrapped together what i need from a few not very big and high ones? now that i have full fenris and all that i would want from the mountain for ewver i keep finding soooo big mountains π¦
i found very long line of mountains at the starter island :gladge:
(worth mentioning that none of the gear fulings currently use is made of black metal, they really just hold onto the scraps, seemingly unable to do anything with them)
and on my first world i even have Moder on starting island π
is the sword not blackmetal??
haaaaaahaaaaa there goes fist lvl to 41 π + the 15 bonus
In a very goblinish fashion, shiny = must hoard
Not like they gonna go get an artisan table, they can't handle a stone golem much less moder
yepp
"Green thing drop green metal" was said by one of the devs years ago (before official lore explanation was added) and is still my favorite explanation π
the black metal is their poop
but its blackmetal smh
and like many creatures, they poop themselves when they die
It is black/dark metal with greenish glow π
those runestones have been in the game since before early access launch π
So what I'm hearing... is i can produce my own blackmetal if I eat their diet?
You don't have their digestion
There was a guy who had the name "Why is Blackmetal Green?" For good couple of months until he had to change it.
indeed
Fair enough.
Although....that sealed tower boss might do a number on Moder
Now I wanna see an NPC fight beween those two (three)
go spawn one in ??? π
Only when she lands
i wonder if it's even possible to somehow contrive that WITHOUT resorting to commands
Lmao
They got fireballs
I have reached the 1000 hours
like, will a boss keep chasing you far away from its initial spawn, if it doesn't lose sight of you?
Only when you kill the first one no?
damn I only have 376 hours
i think i like this game a bit..
50 on dedicated server
you only have 376 h for doing what?
I've had atleast 3 playthroughs in olden times, came back for the mistlands, came back for hearth and home, came back for the mistlands, came back for the ashlands...now i came back again for the bog witch β π
Tower's not destructible
sI shall be reaching 2500h in 46h π guess this game is addictive?
Maybe you can dig down far enough?
no I know, i was just worring about "step 1"--get them, at least, NEAR each other
lol--the rest of the steps would have to wait
non tamed mobs will not ever fight bosses sadly
The altar and the tower would have to be on the same island regardless
oh right right--minibosses too probs
Only 6353 hours π’
Naaaaaah, it is not addictive π || (it is EXTREMELY addictive π )||
so even after all the effort to get em together without commands, they'd just look at each other probs--I think you could force the to fight by messing with factions with commands, sadly it seems that's likely the only way we'll ever see some of these matchups
Yeah I figured that out when I tried to kite Lox to bonemass (would've been a beautiful thing if it worked)
at least with lox, you could tame them to fight bonemass
is there a wiki for this thats not fandom wiki
A for effort
too bad chickens don't have an attack. π how many chickens to beat each boss lol
don't think so @vague field
dang
I swear I saw chickens chasing dear
Oh the hours comparison... I can never really participate bc even tho I have around 1500 logged, steam only keeps track when I'm connected to the internet which is rarely.
hmm. i wonder if they DO have an attack then... haha
The fact the deer was running from them though
wiki says they do 0 damage sadly
lucky me... harpooned a serpent made for the shore and where do i end up...right next to a trolll... now i have to go and find that serpent again π
Probably some, but fandom is the official wiki and has probably the most accurate info
Honestly tho my mother also plays this game and she has 500 hours so half o my own, and she just beat bonemass β¨
What biome level are you?
i am in plains in mountain gear right now
just defeated moder 4 in game days ago
no problem killing that troll and the welcome comittee...
just the snake went off while i was doing so π
Probably despawned
Did we need more than one?
funny how they list it as HAVING an attack, just dealing zero damage lol
nah it did not it was a storm snake... it was right there i just needed to get it to shore again
nice.. now i can make a serpent shield for decoration π
Bruhh my farm had 4 rabbits trapped in it. Free est hides ever
anyone see if a ballista is fast enough to shoot the hares?
Bringing ballista to hare hunt?
not reliably, but few things are
i'm reliable π
the staff of embers AoE works pretty well
ember staff is prolly the best tool for hare hunting
From Pre-magic stuff Ooze bombs work also well for hare hunting
for sure, love me some ooze bombs
People underestimate Ooze bombs.
because until the mistlands, they're largely useless
ooze bombs MVP in infested mines
i love to toss an ooze bomb down those big stairwells in ice caves, then murder everything as it runs single file up the stairs
oh yeah, good in frost caves also
Yoo whats max armor? Im 130 after some upgrades
142 IIRC
are you counting shield or not @rotund parrot
Just armor
How is it that they still haven't add Backpacks? No one needs more load capacity
(belt is enough) but they are introducing more potions soon. They encourage you to bring more items with you on your adventures and you are getting like only 4-8 empty slots after gearing up :C Was there any statement from Devs on that?
that's the thing, you're meant to decide between being able to pick up more stuff or taking these buffs with you.
if you reliably had enough space for both, the meads would become almost free buffs
When we are playing as a group it's chill cuz we split the drops. But solo gameplay is... π
Totaly fine π i dont play any other way most of the time
Solo gameplay is the only way I play, and it is wondrous.
If you have inventory management issues, that's kind of something you need to look at and stop carrying things you don't need.
I wouldn't mind more ways to carry specific things, at the cost of general slots--for example, I sacrifice one slot for "coin purse" which then has like some number of slots which only accept "treasure" items (coins, rubies, etc.), this would save up some space for drops without making inventory management entirely trivial
but I think they probably shouldn't expand the vanilla "general" slots--I played with equipment & quickslots mod for a while, just recently took it off to try vanilla balance agian, and the extra slots just let you be lazy
Hmm, for me it's just little annoying to not bring hammer or 2/3 types of weapons depending on the enemies I will encounter
and avoid committing to equipment rather than brining the whole base
But that's just me and I Know many people play differently
Yeah, so you're intentionally bringing multiple slots worth of stuff you don't need to...
you can even get away with 2-3 weapons, but you'll have to sacrifice something else then, meads, pocket portal, etc.
I won't agree that I don't need to. Some weapons work way too good than others vs specific enemies. but I get your point as well
Just make 2 trips to each location and drop unnecessay items
"works" vs. "works way too well" is the definition of need vs. want.
Best tip I can give you for inventory management and efficacy is to go out with a purpose, if you are going for the burial chambers for exemple, don't pick up crops, kill deers, etc. Just go from chambers to chambers and only grab cores and things from chest and you will be able to carry a ton. Then you might do a trip where you hunt, gather all the crops, seeds, etc. while exploring
Γ usually have my cloths, the numbered slots with weapons hammer axe and pickaxe some arrows, and a pocket portal... if i do not forget 2 healing mead π
Oh yeah, forgot about 3 slots for a portal to avoid 30 min sprint through Mistlands if I die π
2 weapons I will give you. Once you're carrying 3+ there's a lot of questions.
I never had an issue with not having enoug slots π
same lmao
Portal goes in the boat inventory, so you don't have to carry that around π€·ββοΈ
i mean, you can use that portal to empty your inv from time to time too
Yeah, that's how I usually play
nope... i do wander over long distance exploring continents..so i want my pp with me π
You need 20 healing meads? Because that's what 2 slots is worth.
2 healing mead... i rarely use one mostly i forget i have them
So 1 slot for healing mead.
Nope but if you play battlemage like me, you kinda want Healing potion, stamina ofc, if mistlands then fire res potion as well π
jupp if i do not forget to bring... never bring in forest or meadows but will bring in plains and mountains
same, healing meads are my emergency thing
I carry healing pots and Tasty with me everywhere.
and for course in mistlands and ashlands
i use fire res only to kill yagluth and for nothing else π
Once you hit Plains you get 3 slots back from not having to carry food anymore.
With feather cape I'm not in the mood of getting hit by Gjaal xD
i stop carrying food soon as i have dear stew... i eat at home like a normal person π
I really have "no die" politics that's why I like to bring as many stuff as I can
That's a crazy thing to hear for the root harnesk enjoyers out there
We will do that soon π
well try your best to awoid i never needed one ... i am evading best i can π
i can't help bringing food and too many slots of mead lol and too many tools. i have a problem
i will use root only until i get wolf and then switch to fenris... i do not care to go into a frostcave while being flameable π
even though i always portal home each night anyways. i need to re-think my inventory probably
i probably COULD get away with not carrying food, considering I carry pocket portal, but it feels weirdly naked without
really no need to carry food if food is running for 20 min you'll most likely be home before your run low anyways
and i don't REALLY always need a pickaxe and hoe i guess. heh
I just prefer to make random ass fireplace for 8 min rest buff then going back through portal lol
Just using portal when my load capacity is reaching limits
i always have the pickaxe but never the hoe... i do not need a hoe in the swamp it suffices to jumpe from land to land mass...there is always a way around deep water
My top two rows are full, even without food. I hate having to go back to base just to get a pickaxe or hoe.
I carry food because I like to eat them at different time so my health bar remains constantly highish instead of starting high and constantly getting lower and to have multiple surge in healing after eating a new food.
well, hoe for raising earth has been part of my strat in ashlands, often
easiest way to get in a fortress
pickaxes possibly/arguably option, hoe ABSOLUTELY NOT
how fantastic ... all the different strats and all get the job done π
Theres a freaking askvin on top of a fortress walls im trying to attack π π π
i saw a morgen on a fortress wall the other day
actually, sorry. Not morgen. It was a lava blob
I am once again amazed how people can run out of inventory space while i am fine with constantly carrying cultivator, hoe, pickaxe, axe (not as a weapon), 3 foods, pocket portal armor with cape and belt π
i run out of space because i'm picking up everything
It is a question to pick and choose what you want to collect and leave the rest... no one needs 3 boxes full of resin π
ashlands has been particularly hard for that
3 boxes of resin? that's it? π
Valheim hoarding for life
I usually stop bringing it home when i have 4 stacks...there is always gonna be more if i should truely need it π
I often travel across the ashlands with 30 grausten, 20 wood, 2 molten cores, 10 eyes, 7 iron, 5 copper and 4 stones. To be able to setup the stone portal along with the shield and I still have space to pick up things
||PTB update|| says JOKES ON YOU!
i did stop getting new surtling cores after my 25th stack
and i probably have 30 stacks of resin...
i have essentially have 4 different storage rooms. food stuff/metal smithing stuff/wood+stone stuff/misc
i'm a valheim prepper or something
I have 3 trying to get into this fortress rn
I usually have around 12 slots for "cargo" so well... i am gonna pick and choose what to carry with the bog-witch stuff too... π i do not believe that it will entail that i have to schlepp around everything π
