#valheim-chat

i was chanigng from microsoft store to steam and i cant retrieve my save files
It takes like an hour to kill eithykir, a little bit more prep for elder, but getting to iron should take less than a day if youre lax on the building.
Did the suggestion i gave on #valheim-help not work?
nop all of the files are gone
i hate getting trough the eras between leather and iron
If you’re on PC, you can spawn materials in
how
That’s sad
I would say you can take a friend’s character loaded with iron and unload it into a chest in your world, but that’s way better
just spawn stuff with dev commands if you want to get it without doing it. it's a single player game, who cares
I guess you can also plan buildings with the debug mode, since the game doesn’t have a blueprint system, right?
will there be achievementrs?
I believe so, after 1.0
yesssssssssssss,,,,,,,,,,
These fucking golems are hell im trying to live on the mountains but they keep harrasing me and my buildings
the mountains aren't suited for living, imo. i wouldn't even put an outpost there personally
but a moat or earthen wall would stop golems from getting to your base there, if you insist
what are those?
moat = trench with water in it, though in the mountains you wont be able to do that
earthen wall = when you use a hoe to raise an earth wall that isnt nearly as fragile as stone walls
Golems won’t attack anything if they don’t see you so you don’t need terrain walls, you just need a wall tall enough. I forgot golems aggro on mountains enemies. If they aggro on one they will probably start attacking the base.
yes but wolves are a different story and when there's 3 or more of them they destroy wood walls pretty quick
what faction are golems in?
Forest
They’re friendly to black forest and meadows creatures, and attack anything else except bosses.
yeah, i should have just said trench
could you imagine an update which suddenly allowed all mobs to jump a little? oh man, the chaos. it would be a totally different game all of a sudden lol
Necks, greylings and a few other enemies have jump animations so this might’ve been considered earlier in development?
okay i dont think ill cheat it trough i feel like that would be unfair and literally always every single time i tried cheating game it made it boring and less rewarding
so i wont cheat my items back ill just do everything again
If you start your world by clicking start server, how long will it be open without anyone on it
shouldnt take too long if you are not making it for first time
I meant like it just being open not creating one
then it shouldnt take much longer than normal start i think 🤔
I think the server is joinable when the loading screen with the artwork (not the black screen) appears
shit man doing everything from the start is the worst
hell nah
That was quite fun, I've not seen that before; just watched a couple of deathsquitoes destroy three drakes (as part of the 'cold winds' event)
Is there NO way to not punch the last thing you planted when the cultivator breaks?
Ofcourse! dont let your cultivator to break! 😄 ||(just joking, no idea really as i did not encounter this issue myself 😄 )||
Or any tool. That bothers me so much
My hammer broke and I punched the wall
well at least in that case you dont loose the wall 😄 you only need to repair hammer and click
I haven't broken any carrots yet, can you destroy the tree accidently that way?
That's the frustration your viking lets out when it breaks
Yeah it is fine as long as I don't actually break anything
Kinda wonder how effective mages could be for long range artillery. Group together and staff of embers long range across a fuling village
i more want to see 2+ vikings with demolishers, working in tandem to create an unbeatable sphere of SMASH
Or multiple Vikings becoming a blender with the polearm secondary
wen deep north
WHEN IT IS READYYYYY
i have been told that everytime someone asks, the devs add another day to the development time. just out of spite.
not anytime soon
I'm a simple man: i see a Nic Cage gif, and I smile
Ashlands like just came out 😂
hey all, anyone familiar with the Kebabworld, i found the modpack but i cant seem to find the server?
is it a world full of kebabs? yum
sorry no
I demand recompense!
Try asking folk s in #mods-discussion 😄 maybe someone heard of it
look in #1024264966712340510 😄 you can filter for modded by the tags there
Sweet! didnt know i could filter, thanks!
fighting The Elder in melee is such a different experience than with ranged, you could even call it relaxing 😮
Maybe a dumb question but let's say I walked into the black forest died and now can't get there because of a troll. Do I just abandon all hope and start fresh?
no you just run in and hope for the best whilst you still have no skill drain
you do a naked run for your stuff 😄 you just pick it and run, dont forget to eat something
trolls are not that fast
everyone who worries about trolls should watch any speedrunner who just uses trolls to knock down trees for them. they aren't fast, and they are super predictable
eating before a deathrun is an important step 🙂
Ok thanks the 5 grey dwarfs chasing me throwing rocks really are annoying to out run. Got my club and axe just a little closer to the starting spot
yes, dancing with a troll is harder when there are 5 dwarfs dancing with you also 🙂
Sneak up prepare with some stamina food sprint and grab it
How much harder are the Ashlands compared to Mistlands? I haven't played in many months so I'll be quite rusty
maybe brush up your gameplay skills first
it is quite a bit harder imo, but you should be ok if you are starting over again 🙂
Ashlands has better visibility at least. But the mobs are tougher, and the spawn rate is harder.
if you beat Mistlands months ago, and want to immediately take the same viking into the Ashlands, i would suggest maybe taking your viking around the mistlands for a bit. get the rust off first
Might need to do that anyway to farm some stuff
But the enemies spawn faster in the Ashlands and are stronger? That'll be nice...
at least you will see how much faster 😄
That sounds menacing
I imagine they're resistant to fire dmg too, I liked being a mage in the Mistalnds scorching seekers
i've only done ashlands as mage. embers still is good. but i use frost a lot to take down single targets
i love my skellies there too. and there are ashlands staffs which are good
as treelash said, from what i heard the embers staff is still quite relevant, it does bunch of blunt dmg on top of fire 🙂
Oh, I actually never even considered it could do more than fire dmg
I tried to avoid serious spoilers while looking for useful information to know before hand, like not going into the water
And don't sail a regular ship there
parry attacking with the fracture staff does a lotta damage
i heard the fracture can be quite good in right situation 😄 as for the Dundr... it is fun 🙂
Did you kill the Queen when playing before?
well it will be usefull to remember where you left her drops 🙂
We got a special chest for that
fracturing is really great for two reasons. a) leveling your elemental skill as each of the 12 projectiles counts as a separate hit (same with dundr) and b) single target damage. if you can get a solid hit with it it can do just as much dmg if not more than embers as the fire effect stacks per proj. hit.
Dundr is fun, and really good for very close range. the only downside is that it has the crossbow-like reload which takes time, and you cant run jump or roll without resetting it (and it will still consume the 40-odd Eitr every time.
well, gotta say, after trying my hand at mining flametal spires for the first time. screw that. one misstep and i'm retrieving my corpse? i'm going back to just fortresses and dverger buildings
Heh, you should have played before they were fixed. Now THAT was tough.
yeah, that sounds awful
i'm glad this mage gear doesn't really need much metal
i'm sitting on 183 right now, and i'm not quite sure what to do with it.
yeah I just did a fort, and got the 1 and a half stacks of flametal, 4 cores and whatever grausten from that area, and I was good.
yeah, i did 4 forts, and had a good 100 flametal sitting in a chest wondering what to do with it
Mining flametal was so much better and safer when the spire sank. I would just put a platform at the bottom, start mining, put another one to the side as the first node is mined, keep rotating and as it sank I would keep doing the same thing and then get the higher nodes
it can't buy back the 5% skill loss i just took lol
am i missing something? i couldn't seem to build anywhere near the flametal spire
yeah I usually only smelt what I need right then, and leave the rest as ore in my smelting box
You dont build, you throw the basalt bombs that harden and create a platform on top of the lava
yeah, i used those. i was nervous about them however. didn't trust how long they'd last
No need to be, they last for a while but since the spires no longer sink you now need to take risk while climbing the spire and more importantly hope you dont fall in the lava once you mine a node you are standing on
they no longer sink?
They definitely sink.
yeah. that's how i died. granted, it was preventable. but tricky and yeah i screwed up. i even put a shield generator nearby to prevent random lava blasts
just wondering. I've never actually mined one so idk
they way i've mined this one, i don't actually see a good way to get up on top of it now lol.
The exp gain was nerfed a long time ago and it's essentially as fast as the ember staff
You probably dont need to, plenty of flametal just in the fortresses, but yeah without the sinking you now need to start from the top to still be able to climb
lesson learned, i guess. but i'll probably just find more fortresses yep
They sink.
yeah, release notes just say they changed when/how fast they sink
maybe i'll making lightning berserker axes. they look fun
99% of the time they do not sink
That's not the same as not sinking. There's just a lower chance than there was originally.
Still the same thing apply, you can't start mining as the bottom since it will most likely never sink before you can mine everything you access so you need to climb on it
it's pretty close to land, i could try to make a tower near it and jump down to the top of it...
meh. not worth it 🙂
- Chance for Flametal Spires to start sinking on hit changed from 10% to 1%, it takes a lot less than 100 hit to mine the whole thing, most of the time they will not sink while you mine the whole thing, yeah probably not worth doing and not fun anymore
That's not how chance works.
i think that's better though, no? you just have to remember to start at the top?
it's 1% each time, it's indepdentant. still, i was using a level 4 blackmetal pick, and the queens power. i was not doing many hits 🙂
I think around 5% chance would be a bit better 🙂 but i will definetly not complain about easily accesible flametal 😄
i don't know if it'd call it "easily accessible". lol. it's the most risky mining in the game
Last few playthrough I just mined the bottom of the first one I saw, never saw any of them sink anymore, got about 15-20 flametal from it. Just needed some for the ram, got the rest from the fortress. But before that when it would sink I could safely get nearly 60 every time as it sank
Oh well, compared to how it was before the bug was fixed, or even before that, i would totaly call it easily accessible 😄
that's fair
You never had or wanted to climb on it when it was likely to sink, you could just mine the bottom (which will sink first) then mine the top as it is at your height
i think there's a max of 20 fortresses in any world however, yeah?
So that bug was not really an issue
granted, that's way more than i'd ever need as a solo player. i'm sure even just the fortresses on this central island are plenty
Most likely
No? i normally started at the top and raced so i got it all before it sunk
tho in retrospect i may have did it the dumb way XD
My way, I would get probably 90% of the nodes, only missing a couple (most of which the ones that are the deepest since I could never reach them) but would get all the ones at the top as it sank
was netting me about 60 flametal ore per spires
well i used the log off cheese once or twice to get all the metal 😄
Either way, it's much easier to mine Lavaiathans. Especially with the increased drop rate.
Ooh thats true, i forgot about that change 😄
Most people did that, definitely not the safest and most efficient way
man, level 4 mistwalker is too good. i'm looking at thundering nidhogg stats, and don't even know if it's worth making
Yeah it’s an incredibly useful weapon for sure
Just want to confirm so I’m not crazy… the brutal slayer (blood flametal greatsword) has a current max level of 2?
Yep, as have all enchanted weapons
Got it! So un enchanted weapons can go to level 3.
Yep 😄
Thanks a lot!
Upgrades have less percentage increase in damage as you progress through the game, is that right?
Iron sword 1: 55
Iron sword 4: 73
32% increase.
Flametal sword 1: 135
Flametal sword 4: 153
13% increase.
Yep! Appears to be the case. Note: lvl 4 Nidhogg isn’t available currently.
Krom increase from 1 to 3: 8%
Slayer increase from 1 to 3: 7%
Yeah it's a linear growth, but enemies aren't exponentially harder either.
Great observation!
Holy moly, club goes up 150%! (12 to 30)
Not exactly fair though, such an early game weapon lol
Club is OP for speed runners, though. Why don’t you check Flint Spear too?
90% for flint spear
Not bad
I was actually internalizing this when I was looking at Ashland’s gear upgrades. But it’s awesome that you did the math.
I kept thinking to myself: looks like I can just make this and keep it at level one
Yeah, I saw that the damage increase wasn’t much, so I started doing some investigating lol. I knew that the curve began to settle, but I wasn’t sure by how much.
Is there any significance to Straw in valheim? Like would a chicken go to it and prefer to lay their eggs there on the straw instead of randomly everywhere? That'd be so nice if they just lay them on straw
Mistwalker holds up well in Ashlands and Frost effect is good. There is one thing with that tho: Frost damage isn't applied to stagger. With Nidhögg you are able to stagger enemies easier thus deal more damage by dealing double damage on staggered enemies. And Thundering version has chance to apply chain lightning which also is able to stagger and damage other enemies near, so Thunder weapons are always worth to craft IMO.
You can always carry both for different situations.
Morgen gjall.
good morning
This game is no longer fun,you can play solo normally until Mistlands after this forget become pain in ass.
You can use world modifiers if it’s too difficult
You can definitely sometimes feel like they wasted their time on those modifiers...
i do not feel at all like that... i have been playing solo for the most part of 2200h and i can do allright in the mistlands and ashlands. it is difficult yes... but it is supposed to be not easy 😄 If you feel it is to hard, just turn down the difficulty a bit or lower the death penalty or something maybe?
and also make sure that you're eating the best food that you have, i've found that to be very helpful 😛
Carry some with you and eat some before it totally runs out.
Some meads are also a good idea to carry around as "O shit" buttons.
can't build dandelion crown?
You can when it is springtime. https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Midsummer_crown
😦
3 days to late. June to October.
haha shiiii
If you really want it you can either spawn it in with console or freely build it with debugmode.
nah all good
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Yule_tree is coming up though.
Here is more on seasonal build pieces: https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Seasonal_Furniture
if i am taming 2 boars in one pen and 1 of them gets tamed before the other 1 will it attack the other one?
Nope.
okay sweet
what does improving ur sneak skill do?
I’m mostly solo and tbh ur either not geared and fed enough or you just need to work on your combat skills(player skill not levels in game) because I used to die constantlyyyy but once I learned how to well stay alive better In combat and stuff and what’s the right stuff to use I stopped dying
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Sneaking_(Skill)
Less stamina drain while sneaking and less visible to enemies.
surviving a deathsquito attack at black forest tier makes you feel very powerful, haha
(it flew into the black forest to kill a deer and i was close enough to agro it somehow)
Very unfortunate I remember the first swamp I was in was right next to plains and they were the bane of my existence
I shoot em with arbalest now for vengeance and fun
I'm playing through again, but I'm always stuck in the swamp for weeks, no other biome nerfs me anymore 😄
moin everyone
I am also thinking about starting over 😄 this time i might play with some world modifiers since until now i have always played 100% normal
Yeah swamp is also the time sink for me, then the mistlands but that is because there is so much to do.
Morgen gjall
anyone want to play valheim?
#1024264966712340510 Is the place to find other Valheimians to play with, browse at your leisure or make a post yourself.
what...
You are looking for people to play Valheim with, right?
That is the best place to look for them.
ok...
Tamed animals won't attack creatures from their own species - your tame doggos will happily let you get mauled to death by a pack of wild wolves without interfering 😄
I did not know this, very based
what does the iron cooking station do?
Let’s you cook more meat at a time, as well as larger meat
Uhnnn... does the Lava gobble up more and more of the land??
No, it should stay still.
Has anyone noticed that when raising land, and you raise lava that it stays lava?
Yes. Lava is a type of terrain, like paths, so you can raise it with a hoe and lower it with a pickaxe.
Thank you for the answers 🙂
I would find it awesome if the lava could actually progress in places and that when raising land the lava would cool after a period of time.
It's specifically this way for that to NOT happen
I was curious about how lava operated, that makes sense. So if you were to dig lava down to bedrock, it would still be lava yeah?
Yes. You can even have lava under water.
I've noticed with lava that you can stand on it when you stand on Lavaiathan unless you go too deep, making possible to mine more nodes.
can you share a picture or video of this in action?
I bought Valheim on Mac through the AppStore instead of steam. Is there a way to still check the hours played?
I regret not just buying it from steam lol I did it originally so I could family share but the person I was gonna share it with doesn’t play it
how to kill two star seeker?
Hit it till it’s dead. Ideally in its weak point.
Seekers don’t have weak points, only the soldiers.
himmin alf killed it in seconds
They’re very short so in most situations you can jump over them and safely attack from behind.
ty
seems like himmin alf (lighting polearm) can easily kill seeker soldier face to face
I totally read “seeker” as “soldier”!
seekers aren't weak to anything
after parry it dealt 200 dmg to face LOL
but seekers resist blunt, pierce, slash
Plus soldiers are seekers, so technically… 😛
krom works pretty well on them, standard ones and one star go down pretty well
if you can use a weapon that's 100% fire, lightning, or frost
so it looks like the best weapon against seekers is staff of frost maybe
good weapons against them are mistwalker, frostner, himmin alf and mage stuff
lev 4 drauger fang plus needle arrow plus sneak = one shot xD
frostner is surprisingly good thx to the agility and freeze
I use that but ice arrows are better
seekers are immune to spirit damage however
seekers are weak to ice tho
that is true
so the spririt damage from frostner/mistwalker is useless
no, seekers are not weak to anything, per the wiki
seekers are, at best, nuetral to some types
frostner can kill them pretty quickly
I used frostner alot and would use it instead of himmin but himmin has the spin attack which is more useful
plenty of weapons can kill them pretty quickly. i'm just pointing out that frostner's blunt is resisted, and it's spririt damage is completely worthless
frostner barely also wastes stamina and slows down so it's really OP against soldiers and it's really good parry weapon
yeah I get ur point
root chestplate is good in mistlands tho
i use a level 2 krom if they get close and if they are at a distance i use drauger fang lev 4 and needle arrow, had them on farm for a while now
just gets iffy if there happens to be 3 of them xD
2 i can handle no prob
i went all through mistlands using weapons that are resisted by seekers. heh.
I mostly did too
aka frostner lol, just decided to take this lovely polearm with me cause it's more handy
frostner can also be quite effective in ashlands
time to brawl against two star seeker soldier...
didn't know they were possible 😭
I'll try this evening.
after parry 32 dmg......
if i'm going to fight a 2star seeker soldier i'm going to definitely cheese that thing lol. make the soldier wish he had wings
enjoy the starred gjalls :)
They aren't that bad really
Luckily ONLY during nighttime and they despawn at dawn.
d'ah was not the reaction i was expecting 😔
are star'd gjalls larger than regular sizes? never encountered one
I didn't really see difference
They both have different color, darker tone than regular one
But the starred gjall was still easy even when I wear root chest plate lol
the only thing that can complicate a gjall fight is if it releases ticks on you, i love to fight at range so no trouble with them haha
the best weapon in a gjall fight is visibility. it's comical how easy they are if you spot them in a mist-free area. i put a farm in a large mist free area just because of that
Check https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202267437647527977 I just posted about that.
yeah, that looks crazy
It won't burn when on Lavaiathan unless you go deeper in lava
tragic
Are there mobs which can damage fortress walls?
Maybe bosses?
There is a missing piece in the outer wall of my fortress base, which was definitely not missing before. Could not have been a boss, I have not summoned fader yet.
No, unless the wiki is incorrect.
Strange..
I’ve noticed that the spikes and banners can be damaged, but I haven’t seen the walls get damaged yet.
Apperently the walls can (sometimes?) be damaged by pickaxes, which should also not be possible, according to the wiki. I guess I'll attribute this to a bug.
I think it can be
depending on what wall section it is
Hmm, ok. It was the wall below the gate. Do you think this is intentional or a bug? Since the wiki states that the walls and spikes should require tool tier 5 (battering ram) to destroy.
I guess some explosive monsters can damage it
How far do wisp fountains need to be spread out
Just thinking it might actually be worth making a few for wisp torches... who knows, maybe even kill yagluth again to make more
i dont think they need to be spread out at all, i put all mine in same area and they all drew whisps
Oh, wiki page said they should be spread out to allow their maximum
i mean its probably right, i havent done any personal testing with distances
kinda related, but i notice if you dig under the central tower, you can cause the walls to crumble from lack of support. my first fortress, i dug out the whole thing, and the central tower crumbled somewhat, only saved by where i left earth
Gone to the queen map marker and can't seem to find it...
You may have generated the marker before the last update and the location has changed.
In my case when this happened what would have been the queen became a regular mine instead. Guess that didn't happen for you.
The terrain is so awful to navigate I am not sure. There are a couple of ancient swords though
Used the world generator tool to confirm it though, queen is no longer here
Given I had found the map pin it feels fair to use the worldgen tool
Late now though as I spent most of my evening trying to navigate this god awful terrain only to find no boss encounter. Ahh well. Tomorrow, she dies!
greetings! does anyone know any "story telling" or some "cozy challenges" valheim youtuber that does long videos? i wanted to watch something chill about valheim. Thanks!
Rayofpandas gaming has a pretty good 100 days series that goes for 900 days. Also Isshika has a pretty good series as well. The singular videos are not that long but overall there is many hours of content. Apex+ has a 100 days that goes for over 3 hours if you wanted to try that one out. As for story telling i have not a clue
Just finished the Ashlands side quest- super cool content, really had fun finding all the pieces of Dyrnwyn. Is it normal for the 1st location to be super far to one side, then the 2nd location to be super far on the other? If so, I really like that, neat way to encourage exploring the far regions of the Ashlands.
i think its pretty normal, i know one of my piece is basically on the edge of one side
Mine was exactly that way, too. First in center, then far west, then far east.
Their min distance from each other is set to 2km.
Very cool, I like that a lot!
hello
Huh, just had a fortress with no flametal ore. Bad luck!
i just had one with no flametal in the central tower. and i thought that was a bummer
Had two gems, lightning and nature, so not too bad! Was also my first time raiding a fortress using a method other than battering. Built a staircase up into it. Definitely effective, but the battering ram is way cooler.
i've never used a battering ram, lol. 4 fortresses, all by jumping over the wall
it’s not meant for sieging, the battering ram’s main purpose is smashing large chunks of ores and stone instantly
No, its main purpose is sieging the fortresses.
nuh uh
it would be funny if you could use offensively against creatures. bring it up to a boss
It would be neat if we had a cooked whole hog placeable object, kinda like the artwork featured in the board game.
i wanna say your mom is a cooked whole hog placeable object, but i'm afraid some people wouldn't like the joke.... 😉
so instead, my mom
has anyone had success getting bonemaws to spawn by loitering at the beach?
Yep, that’s a report to modmail. ||lol kidding||
Yeah, I’ve had some success with that- even got a trophy last session!
nice!
i need some of their teeth, but i really don't want to make a new drakkar and sail around
Pretty sure it’s damage
i have killed so many wolves looking for a 2 star wolf, i dont even need a wolf farm anymore
is there any good way to tell if its nighttime when you are in the ashlands?
Just that it's dark but it's not an ash storm. You should hear the normal nighttime music sting, I think.
Oh, and a 2 star asksvin would be a dead giveaway.
They're all in bed.
damn
yea i actually need one of those
are you all american?
No. Most on the server aren't.
need some people to find for multiplayer like on normal times
its ironic that i say normal times at 4 am but
#1024264966712340510 is your best place to find people.
sadly no
No what?
To be fair, it's 10% of 10%. Could take awhile.
i wish they made a different call based on star level
Why?
easier to differentiate what wolves are where
In what way?
Lol, yeah. I've accidentally killed a 2 star creature out of habit when it surprised me 🤦♀️
that im not sure, maybe make 2 stars louder? or more raspy? idk
can you still transport boar and wolves via ship?
Wolves can be transported pretty well, but they won't go on the ship voluntarily -- you need to build over it and push them on (and ideally get on fast enough yourself that they don't jump off trying to get back to you). Then you hope that there's no serpents on the journey, because they will aggro and jump off. If following you, you can take the boat very slowly and they'll swim the rest of the way.
I don't have experience trying with boar personally. I think I've heard it's pretty difficult since you can't make them stay near you.
i mean if i use the new giant ship it should make it a bit easier no? it has more space, and has more of a lip to the sides so its harder for them to just walk off
Haven't tried, but it sounds plausible to me.
ill give it a shot
I managed to get my wolves to my plains base in a longship, so it’s doable. Beware the night however. Don’t want them to aggro on a serpent.
yea for sure
Game will give you a storm just to screw with you anyway. 😆
probably
well i found the 2 star wolf, just gotta wait for it to tame, then the next mission is a 2 star askvin. might be a bit harder
I have two wolves at my castle that were born as cubs to two wolves that had jumped off during the journey. Cubs can't follow, so they had to stay there. I rescued them 100s of days later. They live on my dock and are named after fish.
what a good adventure reminder
anyone come across not being able to cast barrier shield to friends
summon pets are fine and get shields
Guys are the yagluth vegvesirs super rare?
they are but look for eiither the alter for the boss or a stongehenge type formation
Seems like they are. Everyone’s always complaining about not being able to find them
I found my last one under a single arch in a birch grove
Almost ran right by it
I found a big circle of Stonehenge rings but nothing there
Keep looking
Morgen gjall.
Finally after 2 hrs I have found it
F**K this one has no vegvesir
|| I lost the game|| I am sorry uwu.
Thx man, will check them out! 👍
Use the longship to sail around the coast of Plains and/or go to areas where Sealed Towers are, those seem to have higher chances for you to come across the actual altar
Where is my deep north
On the top/north of your map 😉
Is there a way to remove the bats raid, I find them very annoying and unfun, is there any mod that can remove that specific raid?
You can turn off all raids with world modifiers but not specific ones, or you could just lower their frequency and hope your luck Is good, but you can ask in #mods-discussion if there are any mods for it 🙂
I will check for mods to see that, thanks
I'll keep an eye on that too. I've turned off raids as well until there is some in-game way of disabling the Hilder raids.
I don't fancy having to always be ready for a boss fight... I could and might just have enough wards and crafting stations spread around to disable spawns entirely but if I do that I may as well just have them.off anyway...
Use the command removekey KilledBat in the developer console with devcommands enabled https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Developer_console#Enabling_the_console
Yo, that's high key brilliant.
That looks useful I will definitely try it
But they are kinda easy 😄
Oh my, that Is usefull to know 👀
Not sure what I did wrong them because even with ~200 HP ~100+ Stam food the first two bosses were very difficult battles of attrition for me.
Infact I got an event for one while preparing for the other and became soft locked at an FoB because it was dancing on my bed and I just didn't understand what I was meant to do XD
I did still have less than 100 Def so perhaps that would have made it less so
K... anyone ever have it happen that you were shooting the pointdefenses of a keep and then the warlock exited the corner of the wall... fell down where I could kill him easy???
Yeah, cinematic, huh?
We just stand near our bonfire and they kill themselves. Lol
@teal matrix i need to stop forgetting this brilliant tactic people have found because I suspect it's in fact the most efficient way to deal with them, because yes bat raids are the WORST
Honestly we discovered it on accident, but I'm glad we did.
If there was a "Tell me you're in the USA without telling me you're in the USA" that I would never get wrong, it's the use of 'on accident'.
Fighting a boss, been going for 17 minutes now (forsaken power has almost cooled down) I have noticed a problem I might have... My weapons durability bar is lower than the boss hp bar
I do have a portal nearby. Do they instantly regen if you leave for a while or is just the slow regen you sometimes see when not hitting them for a bit
Regen happens constantly.
they regen 100%hp per hour, if you just go away through portal it will still regen at that rate, same as when you are fighting, only time it regens significantly faster is when you go to sleep
Ahh really? Nice. So if I can just quickly portal home and come back with fresh weapons its only going to be what, 5-10% regen at worst
Could do with a new rested bonus too
I thought a little campfire low comfort one would be enough, guess now
not even that 🙂 its 1,66666...% per minute
Portal loading screen will take a bit, but yeah
Well, it FEELS Like a long time, I know its only a few seconds
thats what, 5 seconds 😄
During a boss fight that feels like an hour
indeed it can sometimes 🙂
The queen is dead!
Long live The Queen!
I didn't vote for her
dam i wish the game ran better once you build up ur base...
dont make giga bases 😄 (from around 15000 instances the performence can go down noticeably)
welp, im aproaching 40k....
and it's not even that big, jsut one house
There you have your problem 🤣
i'd say it's a medium sized house really, bearly 30h of work put into it
having 87 mods might have something to do with it as well...
hi friends whats veryone up to vikings
hunting Odin's enemies, I'd imagine
struggling with 5fps xd
Could help to distribute your base over multiple locations
well it is
How do you check instance count again?
f2
Ty, curious what my base is at
says mine is at 12k, but it's been saying 12k for 2 days now and the base is much bigger at this point with mroe decoration inside
7500 seems to be as high as it gets running around my base
I guess if I wanted to reduce the size I could move the brewery somewhere else, such as the mistland or plains farm
My main base is in meadow near the spawn point
same same, got a lot of farms in differnt parts of the map main one is at meadows
i cant decorate me house no more... it's really laggy XD painfull to just walk around
I'm still perplexed about how my friend managed to get silver through a portal the other day. The only plausible explanation I have at this point is the silver was next to the portal and the teleport code was triggered right before they picked up the silver. That's the only way IsTeleportable could still return true (because when they entered the portal, their inventory didn't contain the silver).
Had I not watched it happen, I would presume some sort of cheating/etc
none restrictive portals maybe?
Nope I tried taking the same silver back through the portal and got the expected result.
It was definitely anomalous
was talkin bout the mod, none restricive portal
No mods, no world settings allowing portal of metals
And he tried taking it back through himself to no avail.
I even decompiled the code to have a look thinking I'd find some weird edge case
just a bug then
confirmed that deep north boss will follow you through portals
oh god the chaos when the first person discovers something like that, and has a boss enemy ravaging their base. it would be legendary
put that in #suggestions: DN boss will follow u thru the portal trash your base and kill ur pets
and then defecate on your bed and then leave
How many others around here prefer the Karve to the Longship? (Ignoring the big ferry to Ashlands)? After many hours of sailing I have found that I only ever use the longship when I need to transport a lot of ore, for exploration the Karve is far superior due to manoeuvrability. I get so frustrated with the longship that I've left it for the greys to throw stones at it
it's a trade off. i love the extra storage in a longship, and more health. i've wished for a more advanced small ship though. if you haven't sailed the drakkar yet, you'll be wishing for the longship agility again lol
Yeah, I wouldn't mind a stronger small boat, but the long ship having a turn radius reminding me of piloting super tankers is just too frustrating 😄 The Drakkar, well - it serves its purpose
the longship turned well enough for my purposes. once i got access to it, i never built the karve again
i actually left my drakkar beached, and ignored it. it got destroyed. so i'll probably have to make another one at some point
I wish it had been a tradeoff between storage/health vs. speed/agility. I don't understand why the karve goes slower than the longship. I feel like it woould have a higher power/weight ratio.
it would be fun to have a more advanced small ship that's faster and more agile than the longship.
Definitely agree with that, I suppose you can say something about the longship having a much larger sail, but yeah. The karve is not that much slower though, so that's something I can live with.
i've beat Fader, but i've never killed a sea serpent with this viking. it would be cool to have an end game boat to hunt them
Any reason? At this point if you see it first you could probably one shot it with a charred arrow or bolt.
Haha on this life I have yet to move on to Mistlands, but I've killed enough serpents to swim in serpent stew, I've like a reinforced chest full of it. I sail a lot...
What are anybody's best/preferred uses for bile bombs? I've accrued a lot of gjall bladders, but not used the bombs much.
They're pretty effective putting some damage on groups of enemies, though imo for the cost in most situations ooze bombs about as effective but cheaper
Find them very useful to kill low hp enemies like ticks, bats, brood
Squitos
Just never ran into one, or had the desire to farm them for anything
How did you go without the best food in the game for several biomes?
You should try to kill at least one early (before Bonemass) in your next playthrough, both their meat and serpent stew are better than any other health food you’ll be obtaining for a while, and if you feel like trying tower shields the serpent scale shield is incredible.
There are lots of other foods - I only ate a couple throughout my own runs
I tend to save them for the Big Fight - and stockpile them forever because you don't do the Big Fight that often...
At a certain point I have so much it just becomes a staple. But I do a lot of sailing since I like to fully fill in the map.
In alphabetical order? Probably yggdrasil wood.
The last thing I picked up was wood
Ymir flesh.
I wonder what they actually wanted to know.
Maybe what Fader drops? (Which I assume is a placeholder at this point.)
got a pretty firm reminder not to slack on base defenses the other day when a 1 star berserkir during a miniboss raid smashed down the stone walls of my keep and slaughtered almost all of my wolves lmao
A 1-star what?
fuling berserkir
Ah. Brute, I assume.
the big guys in the plains who go RRRAAAAAHHHHH and smash a big hammer on the ground
The starred variants are harder to deal with than some of the bosses imo those things are INSANELY tough
It's hilarious when they spawn into ashlands though. Totally out of their depth.
I got that reminder from a simple Hunted event the other day, went afk for a bio break but apparently failed to log out, came back to a corpse run, when I got back to the spot there were a few wolves still around and a neatly chewed hole through the wall next to my grave...
the hunting event is terrifying simply because you don't even need to be in your base for it to happen, if you're walking in the right areas it can just start in the open
Aye, and if you are ill prepared you'll be in trouble even if well equipped. I got it the other day with rested buff gone and foods low, and wet on top. Ended up with a bunch of wolves chewing on my shield while I tried to regenerate enough stamina to hop on top of a platform to safety...
Anyways I dug a moat around the keep leaving only the land leading to the front gate and around the outside turnip farm, and replaced all the stone walls with black marble and grausten. Also replaced the dark wood gate with flametal, which took some time to gather and set up
Yeah wolves are scary dude, very low health but SUPER high damage
I love the raids and sieges in this game though they're one of my favorite aspects about it, it encourages you to always remain on guard and keep your stuff guarded even in singleplayer
Totally agree
Some events are a lot more annoying and unbalanced than others but ultimately they're a lot of fun
First time I got an event I didn't even understand what was happening, like why are boars and necks tearing down my bloody shack I just built?!?
Playing Doom Eternal - I wish Valheim had a "magnitude" setting for the screen shake thing because DOOM Eternal manages to get it perfect. It's responsive without being distracting.
I like to call that "Eikthyr Eats" - a nice food delivery service in early game
The only events I dislike are the gjall, bat, and slime events
the drakes are also annoying but they at least don't do too much damage to biuldings
Every time I've played I've saved Bonemass so long that I've killed him and Moder in succession, so I've never had the drake event once. But the Gjall one, sheesh. We hates it. We fears it.
Speaking of foods. I'd love to see a "sausage roll" (=tunnbrödrulle) end game food. Sausage, flour and some seasoning thing ingredient from the next updoot. Make sausages great again!
You can turn it off. I know that's not the same but it's there.
I love the screenshake tbh, it gets my pulse up (FECK SOMETHING DANGEROUS IS HAPPENING) even if I know there's nothing to worry about
Killed me the first time I mined on a leviathan, I lost it and couldn't find my way back to the boat and drowned
i've never rolled the gjall event, and I think if I did, i would just leave and not come back to that part of the map until I'd triggered a raid elsewhere in the world
Could be waiting a while.
One reason I'll not build any major bases in Mistlands..
The other being simple logistics. Dang it I really don't like the terrain there
oh yeah, could be awhile for sure--the gjall can just have that base, didn't even really want it
You only need to be near 3 base items to potentially get a raid.
yeah literally if you pocket portal the stone portal, the setup you need to do that--workbench, stonecutter, stone portal--are enough, as I recently learned
I used to think that didn't include campfires, but ashlands has made it clear that it does. Have gotten miniboss raids when 3 campfires was the only thing I was in range of.
I know, I meant a base I actually care about. I tend to make lots of small FOB bases all over the map, but just a few key places where I really settle down to do farming/crafting/storage etc
I'm just saying that most FOBs will count.
Oh I know, but those are expendable - the gjall can have it 😄
that's my plan!
... why is my text red?
Yeah I always turn it off because it's overbearing. That's why I wish for a magnitude setting - I like the effect, just not the strength of it.
That was weird. I guess I'm having intermittent connection issues.
How big are the zones in Valheim? I thought it was 64m x 64m. Was talking with friends about the wisdom of putting "buffer zones" between our more complex structures to help srpead things out and hopefully decrease lag/etc
Yep, 64 x 64.
ya wiki says 64x64 m
can someone help me test something quick
Possibly.
just need someone to login to my deticaited server to see if it works , i just set it up using my other pc lol
Yep go ahead n dm me the details unless you want them shared w/ everyone here
ok ty
Is this a known bug, I just defeated the Queen and went to go get more sap and my Sap Extractor has disappeared. The fence around it is still standing but its just gone. checked around the area and everything.
Still is.
Weird - I could connect w/ Valheim but that thing says it's unreachable.
I think that one only does Steam, not crossplay. I could be wrong though.
Rest well, Stagbreaker! You were a brave weapon indeed, fighting back the ticks of the Mistlands whilst I gathered the materials for a Demolisher! You have gone above and beyond the call of duty for a Medows weapon and your service will be remembered for centries to come.
To Stagbreaker
Is there any rhyme or reason to how tools are chosen to get repaired? Sometimes I just want my axe fixed 😂
Since repair is free, why wouldn't you want everything else fixed, too?
tedious button presses
not a super great mechanic, could definitely use some work. As for the order of repairs though, not sure. you could try experimenting with things, I'd assume it'd prolly be some sort of hidden item id or maybe time dependent list of items in the inventory, or maybe position dependent? idk
Agree, one (or even no) press would be better, but still... click click click click done. It's not like you're crafting 20 lox pies or anything. 🤣
no press might as well not have durability at all IMO, one press makes sense if everything's free -- but still not very fun/engaging. individual repairs makes sense if you had to spend resources so each repair is some sort of meaningful choice, but currently the amount of metals from mining is a bit low for that to be viable, if it were even implemented -- which would also require UI changes for item selection
No press in the sense of you access the workstation and it repairs everything. You still have to "touch base".
just logged into discord on my new PC and this server wants me to confirm by providing my phone number? why is that necessary?? other servers dont do this
2 step verification maybe?
Maybe that was added after the server was hacked to try to prevent that happening again? That was my guess.
right. anyway I used a virtual number I rly dont trust discord with my number
Wow, 2 star Asksvins are some beefy boys
i seen a 2 star morgen in a cave, havent been back since. i dont think i can even fight that thing
A came across one as well, they are truly terrifying. I ran lol didn’t even try
i just wanna say, i love the fact that u can leave shit on the ground without it despawning, it makes things so much easier for me when im running around everywhere doing a million things at once
yes but you proabably shouldnt leave too much stuff on the ground, might cause a bit of lag
oh ya i dont just leave everything around permanently its just nice that i dont have to pick it up in under like 2 minutes. saves a lot of time transferring stuff to/from chests while im working
plus ive got a pretty good computer, takes quite a bit for it to lag
Can you backup your character manually?
i quite like the rapid repair noises for some reason 😛
||Monument of tourment|| ... Picking this as my landing site in ashlands was probably not my best choice.
Managed to claim the spot on my second attempt. First attempt went in my mage gear, second I landed a bit to the east and then attacked from that direction to reclaim the landing site while using heavy gear
It was on the coast and I saw big bright thing so I thought yeah lets go there
Haha... I blew myself up
They do make a nice melody sometimes.
can someone help with improve my experience at night? it's way too dark
some sort of gamma filter or mod i'm happy with tbh?
discovered bronze! best items to craft now?
be sure to make cultivator 🙂
also make some nails to unlock stuff, and upgrades to workbench and forge + axe so you can cut better wood
you dont really need pickaxe or armor and as for weapons make whatever you like basically, mace will be good in the next biome but other weapons are also good 😄
Do wooden objects inside a stone building take fire damage in ashlands, or only in the roof is destroyed
If you don't have a shield running
i asume you mean ashlands, and i think the roof has to be destroyed first but i am not 100% sure
Yeah I did. Might be worth importing some iron to build stone structures
or just have the shield generator running 🤷♂️ i dont think you will ever run out of bones to put in it 😄
That also means bringing more iron (and copper) in
I have 1 though... I guess I could disassemble that for a while to build stone buildings. Not sure which would be more useful actually
Hmmm, unrelated, did you find any molten cores yet?
Not yet, looking to get some. I can see where some probably are but not got there yet
i would wait with importing untill you get your hands on some then 😄
you will see why 😉
Yeah, the question is if building would help doing that or not
Or just try and rush there
you just need two really 😄 so you can try if you are not afraid (they are also in putrid holes)
Depends on the beasties I find in the way.. There is a lot of lava between me and the green glow in the sky
Ahhh, yeah you cant really run in and out of there without god-like gameplay or luck xD
Cleared a couple of the monuments of tourment between my beach base and the green glowing pillar though
well whats between you and the light is not the problem really 😄 its whats at the location of light
That is a later problem
Maybe I should try and make some ashland tier gear. Mage build so I think it would only really be a +30% eitr regen and slightly higher armour but my armour is so low as a mage anyway I don't know if it would really do much anyway
the regen will be nice, also the new staves are good 😄 and you have staff of protection for... well protection xD
Yeah been using that, more blood magic might be nice to have
it for sure cant hurt 😄
Actually low armour, each +1 armour is -1 dmg taken, not sure if the difference really matters or not...
Morgen does up to 160dmg in one hit, that is me instantly dead. 52 armour ... Still instantly dead.
Complete reliance on the bubble
Hmm, not really thought of trying it like that
I try to avoid taking hits but sometimes that doesn't work out, especially when swarmed
yeah, even if the attack is strong enough to pop the shield in 1 hit you can still parry it thanks to it 😄 (i think there is a theoretical limit to it but i do not believe anything does anough dmg currently to reach it)
Maybe raise some undead to act as decoys for me, they don't live long though
ehhh... died in an annoying pit of lava
As one does in ashlands 🙂
My corpse is now in another location, not in a pit of lava
Weird
There is no limit. If an attack is blockable and you aren’t holding a tower shield (but you wouldn’t do this while protected anyway), you can parry it with the staff of protection.
Hmm, i would swear i read on wiki the calculations made with it and there was a theoretical max dmg you could do (even tho insanely high) but then again, my memory could be as well playing tricks on me 😅
I meant because I got there but died again, so my stuff has moved to a slightly better location
You might in coop, with a bubble from a mage in your group, but otherwise yeah
But that player should unequip their shield for movespeed when protected. Shields don’t do anything but slow you down when you have a bubble.
Fair point
Possibly.
been waiting to continue this game for 2 years. I will probably die and game still in early access.
how much content they have left anyway? anyone knows?
at least 1 last biome for sure after Ashlands
Deep North will be the final biome.
What difference does it really make if they call it early access or 1.0
1.0 is the phase of the game when its finished. It means that it goes out from being an early access game. Early access means that the game has missing content.
That difference is meaningless
????????
im talking about Major stuff not minor stuff.
missing biome is a major thing which mkaes the game unfinished. A missing recipe is a minor thing that does not effect the game.
it wont. Deep north is their last project.
Alternatively they could have just not had ashlands or far north as biomes at all and said its already finished
those were already in plans
deep north is their last Biome. They said it themselves.
I suppose they have enough millions they could do that and abandon the game with no concern
As an older gamer turning 49 today, that’s how games always were: released with an ending. Not these live games that never ended.
How would they be abandoning it?
They were, regardless of how broken they were..
I think it’s the fact that companies milk games forever now.
Most games were released fine.
Happy birthday!🎉
Is it milking the game, or improving it
Thanks!
Typically an indie dev that has a massive success will never be able to repeat it
They had to release it because they were producing cartridge with the game on it, we are way past this point
Factorio devs went into it in quite a bit of detail and its the reason thet they will now essentially forever be the people that make Factorio
In the past a small team like that wouldn't have been able to release a game at all
Milking.
Milking isn’t necessarily bad, but it’s also fine for a company to want to finish a game and move on.
I'd argue games have no mammary glands but it is hard to deny that having the option to fix your mistakes and add content by updating the game will result in a better final product than keeping your initial product as is
Move onto what though?
Probably better off retiring really. Unless you mean expansion content for the game
A new game. Companies can have new ideas for different games.
And that's the point of releasing in early development in the first place, isn't it? The game's been refined, fixed and updated all throughout this period with real player feedback, instead of releasing a flawed "final" product and then having to fix and refine.
We're saying the same thing, I was not the one arguing that the point was not to improve the game
It's only Korhaka that seems convinced they need to slave over the same game for the rest of their careers.
I’ve been spying on the company in real life. I have it on good authority the next game is….. Vikings in space. You heard it here folks.
Space Vikings.
We can already play that by jumping off the edge of the world
That’s how the game starts.
They don't have to, but its unlikely if they made another game it would be even close to as successful as Valheim
Maybe they are ok with that though. Perhaps they are good with money and are pursuing the art. They don’t need success perhaps.
Can't seem to find it now but it was a good post about how indie devs rarely have the same success when they try making another game
At that point that sounds pretty much like retirement while continuing it as a hobby - which is totally fine if you want to do that
Picasso should have stopped at his first good painting. And just kept adding on to it. 🙂
Games are .. not paintings
The similarities are there. You can start and finish it. And move on. And strive to create something better.
Would minecraft be as good if they stopped working on it 15 years ago?
Then again some people might say yes to that I suppose..
Does it matter though?
Minecraft is a different kind of game. Valheim has always been conceived of as a game with an ending.
I would rather the game isn't abandoned
Oh so it’s just about you. 🙂
It’s going to be finished, not abandoned.
Tbh, same thing
I’ve gotten 100s of hours of enjoyment from Valheim. at sone point I’ll stop playing forever and it will be fine.
It's so weird to me that games used to be able to be released and considered "finished".. then the internet happened and that all went away.
There will be new games.
Generalizing something, because it rarely happens is just wrong, every developers are different and will lead to different results
Valheim from it's launch on Steam was already stated to have an ending "at some point". Finishing the content portion of the game doesn't exactly equate to "abandoning".
Know what I would consider "abandoning"? Hammerting.
Abandoning is releasing in early access, selling it, then closing shop and never finishing it.
I don’t know what Hammerting is. But I’m guessing that.
Whats the difference between slapping a 1.0 label on something or not?
Finishing the story and game.
If there wasn't a roadmap that they had suggested more content was coming they could say valheim is finished now
It depends on the game, but usually it means the game gets an ending if it didn’t have one already.
Games can have a beginning and an end.
There is no roadmap.
Beginning: pick up wood. End: defeat the final boss.
Roadmap/hinted content/what ever you want to call it
Well, no, there used to be a roadmap but it was quickly scrapped shortly after launch.
Also, are people forgetting Terraria was supposed to be "finished" waaaaaay before 1.4? It was never supposed to have an 'end' and yet the devs considered it 'finished'.
The roadmap didn't even have Ashlands it's so irrelevant.
Sure, but so far we know the north is being worked on but beyond that I don't think much has been said. There could be any amount of unspecified stuff that hasn't been announced
Ok so they could have called it finished before Ashlands - also roadmaps change too.
| also roadmaps change too.
At least you admit that. Most people wouldn't. Some like to take a roadmap as "carved into stone"
No, Deep North was always the end point.
Was it? I don't think there was any mention of that originally.
That would be a vegvisr.
Its literally been in the game since day one.
The initial roadmap (which yes, is no longer accurate) would have suggested the game is finished with mistlands
That image was for the FIRST YEAR.
The non existing roadmap for now is refining the game, adding 1.0 with deep north and achievement system?
Huh?
There’s the smaller update with the swamp hut coming soon.
Vegvisir? more like in the swamps / black forest looking for turnips/carrots and you finally find some so you say "Veg is here"
it's midnight and I've done a ton of walking today. I'll sleep now
Anyway I need to kill some ashland beasties. What magic weapons do decent damage against them
frost staff is often your best bet unless there is enough enemy to justify AOE
Dead raiser is also useful because they'll distract the enemies
Throw enough of your friends at them. Eventually attrition will win out.
And if it backfire, you just need to run faster than your friends
They die so fast in my experience though
If you shield them they should last long enough for you to kill whatever they're fighting
Sometimes, but 245 bubble only takes a hit or two
At this rate every little bit of terrain is going to be flat as I try to jump between terrain to not die but slowly they are all getting destroyed
Ok well armour is pointless..
Thought I would try my heavy armour set - instantly dead.
What food were you using and what killed you?
2 stars of pain
What pain, specifically?
charred warrior
why are people arguing? is the game being abandoned before 1.0?
Those are the worst 2-stars. I used a command character and godmode to practice fighting them for far too long.
It's not being abandoned.
what's the problem then/
The game won't be getting content updates after 1.0 as it will be finished, and some people have a problem with that.
how do you know that?
Definitely multiple times haha
you never know what will happen.
True, but currently the plan is no more content, so that’s what we have to go off of 🙂 (after 1.0)
I don't think there is such a thing as "word of god" in this context.
Word of developer is pretty damn close.
Especially when money is involved. If "Gaming journalists", not that it's a valid profession by any means, and anyone who is a gaming journo is a slime crossed with slag of shit, make a big deal of the official release, then that could mean sales.
More sales means more money, more money means more incentive to continue to develop the game
But if sales don't really change, then it's no big deal. I think before 1.0, a hyper emphasis should be placed on building if it will ever be an immortal game.
Here we go again
oh no, don't tell me you actually respect gaming journalists
If you do, I implore you to read novels instead
No, we just don't want the same argument again
Let runaway supposition simply run into the brick wall of reality.
Don't know if I will ever make it through ashlands at this rate, enemies just end up respawning or I die before making any real progress
There’s no intention for the game to be “immortal”, there never was 🤔
Well, assuming that dev ends at 1.0, there's still potential for this game getting picked up perioidcally as a builder game
skyrim.
Skyrim isn’t Valheim?
yes. But it's almost functionally an immortal gamee.
Why are we having this conversation again?
Hot take, but Skyrim should’ve died 😅 they keep beating it to death
I don't think that valheim lacks the framework for it to be immortal. It's a builder after all. You can make literal art with valheim
community. you would have to murder every single modder on earth
Don't know anymore. I decided to stop bothering as its not really productive and went back to dying in ashlands repeatedly instead
I think the game has potential to "never die"
even if no updates persisted after 1.0
It's a builder and it's multiplayer. People like to build and exercise creativity
It wont
"never die" and "no more content" are orthogonal in this context
Why is that important?
The game is pretty open ended. and again, it's an outlet for creativity
Not sure why I have people arguing with me on this front
Kill 9 bosses, ascend to Valhalla is hardly open ended.
No game will never die. Some just take longer than others.
It already does
No game can die since they are not alive to begin with and merely programs
chess.
Well, it could die if valve does, but as it fortunately isn't a live service game it will otherwise always be playable
True.
And it's completely irrelevant for a game that is NOT live service
also, cs.
A game that hasn't died isn't a game that will never die
No, valve doesn't keep games "alive", just provides easy access
Different type of game, can't compare
Which is why I reacted with that emoji
If valve went under the game would be unplayable as you woudn't be able to launch it anymore without steam
Valheim = Battlefield in that case
Valve have promised to make all games offline playable if that ever happens.
This is false
That chess is hundreds of years old means nothing. Go is even older, iirc. Both will fade into history eventually.
I think that 'dead games' generally ones with bad optimization, weak communities and have generally been phased out within it's niche.
The fact that they're literally the same type of game and we still don't have tanks and air fighters smh
I think we may just have strayed away from the purpose of this channel.
People have enjoyed valheim from the very start and even if it was left in any the update people would have still played it because they find pleasure in it.
And it's extremely well-optimized so clearly not dead
I dunno about that. I get horrible lag when I play.
How can Valheim get a New biome after deep north
Maybe your board is too old for the latest patches?
If a game is well optimized, has grassroots communities and is on top of it's niche or sub niche, it won't die. Take skyrim. Modders, lore and the fanbase will not let skyrim die.
ds1,2,3 won't die because of strong community and novelty of difficulty that never really wears off, mario 64, again strong community and is a pioneer of it's niche, melee will never die and that's against nintendo's literal efforts to phase it out.
Every day, we stray further from purpose of this channel
Valheim, if it gets a good enough community, has incredible optimization on 1.0 release and hopefully, a good modding scene, it might become eternal even within it's niche
Nah it'll run on any ol hardware, has to be a software issue
Gotta love the 'voluntary' hall monitors who try to sanitize a chatroom.
especially those who are unmodderated.
100% this.
I mean how can Valheim get a New biome after the deep north
It won't.
Ok
something occurred to me. Piracy prolongs the life of successful games.
piracy isn't preservation
preservation involves the means to keep a thing usable (in case of software, that involves the hardware, operating systems, libraries, &c necessary to run a piece of software)
(Game) piracy is the result of illogical think patterns.
"This game is too expensive, so I use an illegal copy to play it,"
But at the same time it's forgotten that when more legal copies are being sold, it would be easier for any studio to sell their games a lot cheaper as they are now, because they won't miss out of the income from the pirated copies.

Dinner time or snack time? 😉
Just wary, piracy is not exactly welcome here
I can understand that and I won't support piracy. Just tried to explain how illogical those who use pirated copies of games think.
Besides, I've seen ppl being banned here for stating they used a pirated copy faster as the time they needed to type: "I'm playing a pirated version of Valheim."
And I hope you and the rest of the crew will keep up to that speed record.
Dark Spore would like to have some words with you.
Do walls and floors just naturally degrade? Not sure what else damaged a big L pattern in my house
If it was rained on. Otherwise no.
This game is balanced for solo play, but it is intended to be difficult.
Is that hard?
Best thing you can do for yourself is eat good food and manage your stamina well 😁
I thought it was balanced for coop
Nope, balanced for singleplayer
Not really seeing anything to suggests its balanced for anything tbh, but coop recommended
Coop is not recommended, it's optional
No, Valheim can be played either as a singleplayer or a co-op game. But we would of course highly recommend you to play it with a few friends if possible! To me that sounds like its recommended to play coop
I think it's best to play how you want to play
Well yeah that too
it just gets a lot easier if you do is all. which is why when you talk about balance, it's balanced towards single player. by all means bring more, but it's easier not balanced
The ability to chain Forsaken powers between players is certainly not balanced.
Chain? how so
Stand together, one person triggers their power. When that runs out, stand together, a different person triggers it. Ad infinitum.
Infinite bonemass power makes the entire game a joke, but somehow my friends were still dying with it anyway
a caster wouldn't normally be able to chain fire from a corner either
Huh.. I didn't know it cast it on nearby people
Or, have a power each and you don't ever have to go back to the stones.
Well, each biome increases the amount I think the game should be played in coop and wish my friends had advanced beyond the swamps
Although first time I attacked a fuling village was with a friend who had black forest gear and even then it was pretty nice to do it as 2 players rather than 1
Think I might have given him my bow though, so at least he was doing good ranged support damage. Just his armour was awful
Just found a seed with Eikthyr, Elder, Bonemass, Yagluth and Moder on the spawn island. Is there a channel to drop that in?
consider it dispersed
Maybe, just maybe, that can be worded slightly better?
Differently, yes. Better? Debatable.
I mean, fair
I feel like deleting my last post says more about the moderators than it does about my post. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
How can I get a pickaxe?
Kill eikthyr
in a coop game with a friend, can he give me admin commands?
we want to some sandbox stuff and only he can, trying to find out if he can give me the commands too
its not a dedicated server, just a normal privately hosted one
Only the host can use cheat commands
Hi, is there a French discord server or French players who want to start a game?
There isn't a French discord over here, but perhaps a French player might have one.
For French (speaking) players you may ask around in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510
#1024264966712340510 is your best bet, just remember that we require all posts to be in english as outlined by our rules
I'd suggest starting by searching for any french, then you can try making your own post
I think the French Discord is called 'Des Corde'.
Ok thanks for the information
sigh
first time here since ashlands first came out. any news on next biome?
Nope, not yet. Current update in the works is the swamp addition.
hmm i see
'Far North' is next. Then, the final biome is going to be a Korean eSports tournament where you need to craft food, farm lumber, and harvest crops faster than a 13 yr old gaming prodigy.
he said there was not intention of the game to be immortal, meaning valheim. not just any game
TIL: The queen platform has a building under it. I now have enough dvergr tankards to throw a proper party.
(Don't know how I missed it until now)
Looking forward to the invite 😉
I'm just saying, valheim has potential for it. There's replayability in the level of creativity within valheim
ya but he said that there was never any intention of the game being immortal, and then u were like "skyrim" lol. they werent talking about skyrim, or any other game, they were talking about valheim
what u said was completely unrelated
Is there a limit to like the amount of animals that can be loaded into the world?
My friend is afking with one of those boar breeders that make a boar every 2 mins
Nope, there can be as much as your PC/server can handle

Can you dig tunnels in Valheim? 😄
Terrain won't allow that, but you can dig under large boulders which maybe count as "tunnels"
Thanks good to know. I just wondered about a base connecting tunnel. Well now I don't have to figure that one out myself 😂
I really wish blast furnaces could smelt everything
Not sure I understand. That game that was based on Spore? That was killed by EA like 10 years ago or something like that? Is that still alive?
Heh, dark spore - never even heard of it
Is Valheim using procedural animation for the character / poses?
I think the head turning with the camera and legs adjusting to uneven ground can be considered procedural animation, but I’m no expert on this.
Does each cartography table have it's own state or are they shared?
i never tried it but i believe each cartography table should be separate from the others
That was my thinking, too. I decided today is the day to get started on my game. I've been trying to get others to work on it with me but I was reading The Pragmatic Programmer and they offered the Stone Soup parable aka build something to show people and that will encourage others to join.
First step is the character movement because I want the player to be able to run/jump/crawl/etc.
That's what we know so far right?
just the swamp thingy
Already has it
Surely traveling gets faster than just running. Having to go back to my base to dump means I'm then far from where I was. I know traveling is essential, but this seems extra slow
Well, you can ride, or you can sail.
And portals 👀
Well, there's that.
What's the proper style for a chimney? Will rain not fall down through it and hit the fire?
You can build chimney flashing, which is basically a little roof for your chimney 🙂
Just a roof tip over it?
A good example is a little A-frame that’s support by beams so that the smoke can escape, but rain can’t get in
is lightning or bleeding better for the slayer?
Most people would say lightning but then a lot of people seem to dislike the blood stone enchants in general. They're also wrong.
So you all pretty much switch to magic once you hit mistlands? I just started using the skelly staff and now I wanna go full magic
Been craving to play this game for far too long and im not sure if i really want to get back to it since its unfinished, im craving an adventure, should i hop back into this game on a brand new seed? 😢
That's really up to you.
There are world settings to enable portal ore.
seriously? omg finally. What about loot drops upon death? can i remove that too?#
not a big fan of dropping my stuff that i worked hard for on death
Only equipped items
Yep, so now you can set it to where you keep equipped items, and 1% skill loss. This makes corpse runs much easier.
This includes the weapon/shield you were holding at the time of death
IF you’re holding a weapon, that is
wait but if i have a bow that wasn't equipped that will drop? lol makes you want to carry 1 weapon then.
Correct, arrows will remain though lol
i mean dont get me wrong thats a good upgrade, but i still dont want to lose gear.
Yeah, you still lose your tools and other stuff usually.
oh yeah...lol
But honestly, corpse runs are way easier
dont know how i feel about that then im 50/50 about this
i am just worried for the ocean part
If you’re responsible and build portals around, it’s not too bad 🙂
if i die in land i can manage
i am still new to the game. I mean i have 200 hours+ when the game came out but i stopped because im waiting for them to finish the game. Never really experienced the game much. I managed to progress at the snow biome, didnt kill the boss yet thats where i stopped
i never experienced the ocean either lol
Gotcha, honestly ocean deaths are pretty rare. If your boat breaks, the loot inside will float in crates for you to pick up.
never seen the leviathan either
Leviathans ||are not hostile, they can’t hurt you 🙂 ||
i just want these devs to wrap this game up honestly hahahaha
been 4 years in feb 2
Honestly, I think you should give it a whirl- try it out with the new modifiers, I bet you’ll like it. If not, that’s ok too 👍
i kinda want to go back im craving this game, i always did honestly. Its a cool game but since it lacks content i am contemplating if its a waste of time or not.
The new content is a lot of fun. Game is getting close to being done, they’re adding some content in the swamp then one biome remains.
It’s your call honestly, sounds like you haven’t gotten very far. There’s a lot to discover now.
i also stopped because i did so much on my first seed, i stopped exploring because i read that new content wont be effected on explored areas so i was like hell nah i gotta stop, i cannot start over and ruin my first world, so there's that.
will be effected i mean*
my english sucks, sorry
Ah, that’s fair! I wouldn’t worry about it to be honest. It’s a finite world, but it’s massive. The only area you should stay away from currently is the far north area.
I mean, chances are, you’re unlikely to explore every swamp there is 😉
Don’t overthink it, and don’t worry yourself!
i didnt explore much actually so i think im good, i have like 2 swamp areas only on my first world
You’re good then, honestly. I have several hundred hours, my main world is pretty decently explored. But I’m not worried about missing out on any content, I’m confident it’ll be fine.
you gotta start over though right? for the new stuff? unless you stood away from the deep north areas
Nope, not typically. For example, my main world was made pre-mistalnds. I’ve had access to all mistlands content as well as the new Ashlands content.
yes my main world was made on day 1 of release lol
If I were to explore all of the deep north, then yeah I’d be in a bad position once it drops.
That’s pretty impressive lol
been playing this game since it was released thats how old my first seed is
but as i explained i had to stop due to the new biomes added and content etc, didnt want to start over
i literally built a big village on my own, its quite large
so i did not want to lose that
Oh nice, yeah don’t stop playing the game because you’re worried about new content, just enjoy it
i wish i didn't haha but im that type of person that really loves to stick to one save and progress through, i mean i can do another world for fun and just play but i will always go back to my main one and play there.
I’m similar, but rest assured your world will be fine 😁 just don’t go waaay north
Anyone use the THX spatial audio thing? I see valheim listed as being tuned for
are swamps safe to explore? the newer zones though?
because of the upcoming update?
I would say yes. Unless you literally explore every single swamp lol. But chances are, that’s pretty low.
no no i didnt explore much, my world is like 80-85% unexplored/shaded and the rest is explored. I dont even have plains revealed, thats why i am lucky that i stopped playing immediately lol
No one can say for absolute certainty, sure. But I think you’ll be good.
any theories about the new update? i think they will either add a new NPC a witch in the hut, or a mini boss in a hut area that drops valubale stuff upon defeat.
I feel like it’ll be some sort of NPC, maybe some new side quest(s)?
yeah, thats cool, with new sellable stuff
if its an NPC so i got to stay away from swamps
Hildir might also see some improvements as well
😅
will he still get the new improvements even if i already found him?
Well, if it’s anything like the other merchants, they’ll have like 10 potential areas to spawn at haha
Yeah, she should!
okay thats cool then
guys why does literally everything resist pierce
