@covert meadow I tried to call to see if I can help but no answer
All good, I just got new ones
Built my first little home. It looks like shit but yeah
When you landed in the area with the stones, did you see the raven?
Yep
I’m trying to figure out how to craft weapons like swords, axes etc
Though I’m guessing I just have to explore and pick up new resources I find?
you can craft some stuff right from your inventory, try to make and hammer and see what you can do from there 🙂
Yeah, I have a hammer so far 🫡
You can gather flint for better tools, it spawns near and in water.
👍🏻
Keep on crafting what you can, collecting new resources, and paying attention to what the raven tells you.
Also, about weapon variety, are swords widely used here? Since it’s a Viking game, I’m assuming it’s mostly axes and such
Though I like swords better
oh yes, swords are pretty widely used 🙂
Awesome, can’t wait
axes can be used as weapons and they are also tools so if you want to save slots you can just use them tho 🙂
Both are good weapons with different advantages and disadvantages
There’s a good variety of weapon types that cater to different play styles.
Different shield types are best for different play styles too, don’t just use the shield everyone tells you to use
I’d apply that to a lot of things in the game - you may see a lot of X weapon is best - but that entirely depends on your play style.
except for fenris claws
No weapon or shield is the best
You have to stay well fed and keep your wits about you, and run like mad if things go south
Even a greydwarf can bring you low
Good to hear
This game seems so vast lol. How many hours have you guys put into this?
Over 800
what's your worst death?
Are there any mods i should install on my first playthrough?
Alright!
Play without mods for the first time so you can learn how the game works and don’t experience the bugs mods can cause
Mine was baiting a deathsquito
I lured it, was waiting for the right moment to swing and wallop it, and a greydwarf had thrown a rock at me from behind, staggered into the deathsquito sting
My worst death was to the queen the second time I fought her because that’s the only time I’ve died to a boss
That's a lie
What’s a lie?
I haven’t died to any bosses except when I fought the queen for the second time. ||It was my first time using magic and I focused too much on skeletons that were dying instantly instead of using elemental staves, so I didn’t have enough eitr to protect myself.||
You claim you killed all the bosses and didn't die once to any except a 2nd queen
Anybody know if there’s a way to adjust the view distance of dverger lanterns? I’m ok with them being less bright than torchers (well more like acceptance haha) but it drives me crazy how the light itself doesn’t kick in until you are closer whereas torches produce their light affect further away
that seems entirely plausible
They’re really not that hard…
sometimes folks arent bad at the game
You have to practice bosses
I did, by fighting them more cautiously until I had learned their behaviour
theyre pretty predictable if you just keep some distance for a minute
Everyone dies to elder at least a few times
How? With the right food and preparation he dies fast and does low damage.
the gear you get from the black forest also kinda puts you way past the elder already
Disagree.
If you get caught once by the elder's ranged attack it's a death
If a troll happens by, which happens to me a lot, it makes it harder
i dont think its an instakill with troll armor even
You can block it quite easily
A plant whacking you by surprise
also the big pillars kinda hint that he will have a ranged attack
There's more ways to die in valheim than odin has names
He doesn’t even use it unless you get too far away
to be fair my instinct with bosses isnt to get up close and personal
No because elder will one shot stomp you
It doesn’t one-shot you, last time I fought him I took an unblocked hit and was fine
yeah i dont think its that bad
if anything i had a harder time with bonemass
but thats cause i did not at all take into account hisweaknesses
actually i dont remember if i died or just ran away
People have landed spacecraft on the moon on the first try. I think some people are capable of beating the bosses without dying.
its only one at a time -- but what I do is have some signposts (so I don't forget) for the names of other portals, and then use one portal at my base for a handful of others throughout the world, and just change the name when I need to go somewhere else
if elder is one shotting you that means 1.) you need better food, and 2.) you need better armor ||and 3.) simply stop getting hit -- his summoning pit has 4 indestructible pillars you can infinitely hide behind.||
do you have rag armor on or something?
his stomp deals like 50 damage with no armor
and even with like yellow mushrooms, red mushrooms, and raspberries you could survive that
#steam-bugs-discussion message @jovial estuary You need some better food
like what lol
Have you started farming turnips? You’ll need them for a cauldron improvement and without it you’ll never be able to make food from the biome you’re at.
I just did
Also, try not to eat 3 foods of the same stat. Have at least one health and one stamina.
I know, I'm just worried about wolves
I had a "You are being hunted" event like 10 minutes ago. I would have died without all my health
With better food you’ll be able to have high health even with one stamina food
It isn’t the biggest issue but getting better food when you can will potentially save some future deaths
ooh like the new wiki reskin
quick question - the recent patch spawn rate "tweaks" - is there any quantitative description of how things changed? It seems to be somewhat subtle from some brief playing in the Ashlands. Just curious what the "tweaks" were. Slightly more twitchers, fewer askvin? Not sure
do any of you bother to make the iron axe?
Of course, why wouldn't you?
The tweaks are to the spawn interval (how often a zone tries to spawn a certain mob) and the spawn chance (how likely a spawn is when the interval is reached).
Glad you like the Wiki reskin, we've worked a little while on that.
looks really nice!
okay, that makes sense. Is there any granularity available on how the spawn interval and spawn chance have changed for the individual enemy types?
- Reduced spawn amount for Asksvin
- Tweaked spawn chance for Twitchers
- Tweaked spawn chance for Charred Archers
- Tweaked spawn chance for Charred Melees
Don't have the exact numbers, I'm afraid.
okay so it is reduced amount for askvin? https://valheim.com/news/patch-0-218-21/ on here it just says "tweaked" for all of them
I did get the impression that there were smaller groups of askvin
My quotes came from the PTB patchnotes as they were slightly more descriptive.
ah okay, well thank you! If you come across anything more detailed I'd certainly be interested in hearing. Do we think that the other "tweaked" spawn chances are reductions or a mix and match of slight increase, slight decrease?
I think they're all reduced slightly. We had a patch that was even more reduced, but we felt that went too far.
cool, thanks for the information! I think the new patch seems pretty reasonable from what recent time I've spent in the Ashlands
Yeah, it's been met pretty favourably to be honest. It seems to have magically satisfied people on both sides of the argument.
Yeah I think it's subtle enough to not change the feel too much, but it can be helpful to not encounter quadruple Askvin spawns, especially for people new to the biome
Anyways, thanks for the info! much appreciated, ttyl
So I spent some time setting up a blood magic greydwarf farm which got me from 20 to 72 over the weekend. Also got me a ton of wood, stone, and greydwarf eyes. Highly recommended!
./raiseskill bloodmagic 52

I got it from someone aswell
Blobi reposted it:
#general message
OG post 😄
is that a modonly channel or why does it show no access for me? 😅
Morgen gjall.
no. it's the public-test channel
nice thanks
guys is it possible to see stats of my dedi server?
like if someones touched my shit for example
You can see when people logged in but not what they've done
damn
someones been taking my stuff when my ward wwas broken but no one admitting to it
yeah sadly no real way
btw once in mtns i had a raid event which had two humanoids, fully black with glowing eyes like fenrings attacked me
could've that been a bug so that they were fenrings but only theyr animation skeletons visible ?
im not sure but i dont think i had mods back then
mtns night time
had a lengthy discussion about it here and no one else seem to have seen that kind of humans looking in game
The raid with fenrings only happens after defeating geirrhafa. Had you done that?
If not it must’ve been a mod
back then i hadnt no
i think herobrine is in your game
whats yall favorite biome?
Mountains for me
meadows
Plains
Don't really like the grass color in plains
iv noticed blobs are harder to pop. i used to get up in front of them and they pop. but now if i dont time it right after landing they wont pop but just jump again. is that what the interval is about?
I think the interval is saying how long it takes until they can respawn, tho I am quite new on here so I am not sure
me too, I built my house in the plains
mistland is my fav biome. but i like building in the forest.
if ashland wasnt so dark id like it more
how many arrows would it take to make my bow skill lvl 100
Too many
20-30,000 probably
anyone used magicplugin a lot?
if it is a mod then someone in #mods-discussion might have 🙂
Hi
ᚷᛟᛟᛞ ᛗᛟᚱᚾᛁᚾᚷ, ᚠᛖᛚᛚᛟᚹ ᚡᛁᚴᛁᚾᚷᛋ.
oooh cool to see this - thank you!
dig a hole under you floor to hide you ward in it then cover it with floor it wont break
who 👀
good tip, thx man
its a minecraft guy
like a creepypasta pretty much where its a guy called herobrine who looks like steve but has white eyes and he just messes with your world
might actually be him
how big is the range of ward?
mf's srsly took my low food supplies n shit 😭
hmm what food ?
you may want to consider 'personal chest's
i have lots (355) lox meat and some poison potion in a old game want me to give it to you ?
i dont use them
i have
but modded all chests but ward should prevent
will they come over if serv chars mod?
oh you have mod?
well unless we both deactivate ur mod its gona be hard
Another solution would be to maintain a local world that you use for storage - at the end of a session, put anything you want safe into your inventory, log out, load into your local 'storage world', put items in chest there, repeat as necessary.
that would work yeah, thx for the tips and offer
any core keepee enjoyers? might get it
do you have a vanila world ?
Hi, does anyone know if there is a Latin server?
can someone help me and my friend kill yagluth
yeee
kinda feels bad that someone comes on the server and wont be upfront about using some stugg
stuff
does anyone knows how much time does steam support takes for account recovery?
how to tame loxes?
Same way you tame other mobs, with food. They like most things that grow in the Plains: cloudberries, barley, flax.
you just uncheck the option
look like you cant uncheck it lol😅
oh you can you need to click on start server then uncheck the cross play
Well, no, it's a lot more complicated than that. If you're not using crossplay, you will probably need to sort your port forwarding.
but theres more to it right, u gotta lure em and shit, i never tamed any animal
What are you playing on? It can only be disabled if you’re playing on pc with steam.
yeah no we're all playing on steam but
when I talked about a server issue I was having (which wasn't a connection issue) someone told me to disable crossplay
how am i uspposed to get him into the trap ?
he just walking around it
With Lox, you can just provide them with food, and then stay close, but out of their way. They don’t move around a lot.
However the more generalised method is to aggro them then run away, into your trap, using yourself as bait.
I have some serious question for balancing team... what in the world?
Just to make silver sword you need whopping 40 pieces of silver (and 5 metal!) ingots. It does 75 dmg (+30 silver that doesn't even proc on most of the enemies, not to mention slashing type of damage, which seems to do much worse compared to piercing)
To craft silver spear you neeed ...two ...just two pieces of silver. Exact same stats (apart from -100 durability and 30 silver dmg). Also piercing delivers a lot more pain to enemies like trolls, greydwarfs and wolfs.
Am I missing something here?
i mean hes gonna attack me right ?
i heard u gotta trap them in a mound first
wolfs arent weak to anything, and silver sword carries rather far dmg wise
all in all, its a good investment
They’ll certainly try to. Getting them to try to attack you is how you trap them.
hello, what happens if you free tamed boars?
Free them? They just wander around.
well that didnt work, he just walked around the mound and chased me, or tried to run away, at the edge of the mound
i was running around the mound tryna get him in
I personally witnessed my friend taking swings at wolfs with bronze sword after he parried them - 2-4 hits per stunned wolf, with bronze spear it takes 1-2 hits to kill a wolf
i wonder if the new swamp leak thing is gonna be like. a 3rd merchant
Not sure what you mean by a mound. To trap them you need to build something around them. Earth walls work best, because they can’t destroy them.
i mean a mound as in a hole in the ground
ahh so thats how its gonna be, thanks ! didnt think of that
if you want to get them in a hole you have to either build a path into it then block it or puta floor over it then destroy it once they are on it
or you can try to get them near it then push them back with blocking or something
turn grass quality down
in meadows and black forest 🙂 if you find some mark them, they will respawn after some time, also turn grass graphics down and it will be easier to find them
it helps seeing them
sometimes complaining also helps
do egg farms work when not in render? i know growing does
No. You need to be present for the hens to lay.
same as any other breeding animal.
Crossplay is managed by Microsoft.
Xbox s/s - xbox s/x also affected according to another reddit user
Well yes, they all use the Playfab servers so it will affect all of them
ah okay, hopefully just an Playfab outage rather than long term problem, thanks mate
.https://status.playfab.com/ is always a good place to look.
playfab doesent seem to hae any outage atm tho🤔 (^exactly what i am looking at right now :D)
Yeah, they had issues on 29th on US, we're all in UK. according to reddit big Playfab problems 7 days ago as well
Hopefully just a 1 night thing and maybe JUST happened hence no incidents reported
does the poison damage from the draugrs fang stack/add with the poison damage from the poison arrow?
Microsoft again lol
I'm in a other server where every fee minutes some has a multplayer issue
anyone know when valheim will go on sale again?
quick question: has anyone tried fighting the elder with the fire hazard world modifier on, then setting the trees on fire around the summoning location during the fight? would that a) work in dealing fire damage to the elder and b) not immediately kill you because forest fire and c) not be harder to set up than just fighting him normally
I think it would be harder to setup and execute than it is worth. Easy to kill with regular fires, weapons, etc. Nothing really challenging about the fight other than don't stand ranged and face tank the vines. Melee range makes him so easy.
i took a bit of a break. how do the ashlands spawns feel post update?
General consensus is that it's still hard (as it should be) but a lot more manageable than it was.
The queen is dead. Time to make my way to Ashlands. Tomorrow maybe.
If you’re not using magic, bring a frostner or crystal battleaxe if you made one previously.
They’re good for 2-star charred warriors
or mistwalker
It doesn’t have enough knockback to keep you safe
knockback is overrated 😄
Not when it’s keeping you out of the hitbox of an attack that will kill you in one hit
It’s great for the unstarred enemies though
Thanks! I think I'm going to use magic. I used magic against the queen, and think it will be good in the ashlands.
🤷♂️ i have been doing fine with mistwalker even in early ptb ashlands
Though I will need to use a frost staff I guess. Since creatures are fire resistant
The blunt damage and aoe of your staff of embers means it’s a good weapon in many situations
indeed you still get 62,5% of dmg from the staff of embers 🙂
That's not so bad I suppose
yep, it still works just fine
Taking a break today. I'll setup a spot outside the ashlands tomorrow probably.
Like every other biome, if you’re jump attacking and dodging properly nothing can touch you in ashlands. Don’t forget to bring materials for a shield generator to keep your portal safe.
Will a stone hut help also?
With a shield generator, any material will do as long as the enemies aren’t trying to break in, which they won’t unless they’ve seen you.
Plan is to build a first portal on one of the rocks in a little hut before I land.
:) frens
so on a server with friends. we just killed the elder. and im now making poison resists meads for when we find a swamp
Nice 😄 thats one of the first steps to success in swamp
has anyone noticed an increase in the amount of dead end corridors in crypts and burial chambers where there's nothing and the door/corridor leads to no treasure or items? It seems like since the patch more of these seem to ahve been generated, either that or i am having terrible luck, but i have never seen it this bad in 1225 hours of play
i hate the constant greydwarfs at night rahhhh
Nothing outside of Ashlands has changed.
That will unfortunately be a thing you have to live with 🙂 the more bosses you defeat the more different enemies will spawn at night
we just killed the Elder so im curious what will spawn
You'll get to learn what the Draugr are.
well if skyrim has taught me anything. they are undead
You will be playing with them quite a lot in swamp 😁
i already got killed by them lmao. we went to close to a tiny patch of swamp and died
Parry them
there was also a wraith or whatever attacking us it was chaos
Ah those yeah
ill tell ya tho. this game really has its peaceful moments. sitting in a building in the wild during a rain storm. or sailing to other islands or just relaxing and chopping trees to build
Oh yes, thats part of why i love the game so much 😄 on one hand, it can be incredibly relaxing and chill but then there are times when i have 2-3 trolls and 10 greydwarfs chasing be in only rag shirt 😁
i found a trader! another living being!
Nice 😄 Now your life will be quite a bit easier
That depends on which trader they found
he sells something that adds more carryweight
Yep, thats Haldor 😄
Haldor's got some good stuff. Be sure to go back every once in a while. He'll eventually sell other stuff as you progress.
Both give great QOL improvements.
The best item in the game
no that would be the hammer 😛
Fair point is fair
Anyone found any creative ways to use the lava lantern to light your houses? I'd like to see how people are working around no hanging options and not being able to attach to item stands. 🙂
is the krom any good?
Yes, but you’ll need to be careful around starred enemies as you likely can’t block them
okay
js made the krom and arbalest pre-moder
are we ever gonna get rid of the fandom wiki and get a dedicated one?
I doubt it. The Fandom one is as official as it gets.
god I hate fandom I cannot deal with the constant accidental clicking on terrible ads on mobile
Firefox + ublock
?
Morgen gjall.
my chickens hatched, but what do i do with them now ? 💀 i put em in a troll cave
Feed them seeds or dandelions and they’ll lay more eggs
Wait till they turn from chicks to hens then either do what blobicycake said or slaughter them with the butcher knife / turning friendly fire on (you can train weapons a tad that way), for meat and feathers.
Don't slaughter all of them though you need at least 2 to make more eggs.
Make them into Honey Glazed Chicken.
Anyone down to join me on the insiders version of xbox valheim? It can be hard or normal i dont care just need someone to play with
#1024264966712340510 but I'm curious why you specify the 'Insiders' version. There's no testing taking place.
Bc i cant revert back from the insiders version
Of course you can.
How have you tried to?
Just making sure. The fact that the wind is always against me is purely confirmation bias, right?
Yes, absolutely.
Then it's personal
Exactly, wage war against the wind and use moder power any time you can even when you aren't sailing!
I do, but Valheim is too harsh and after 5minutes it remembers me the world is against me, not in favor
Pretty sure wind is hard coded to be in exact opposite direction for some steam user ID's including ours
I fr turn my boat and wind turns with me
It's really not.
It really is. You just don't have one of the bad IDs
yep
This is unhelpful nonsense.
Thats what someone with a good steam ID would say
Look, there's enough misinformation about the game around without people deliberately adding to it.
He's probably a member of Windgate. The secret society trying to suppress the truth about Valheim wind.
lucky mf
mine is tagged as the worst ID
Please take care how widly you spread this information, Those might go after you
We should stop spreading this knowledge, or windgate will come after us
🤦♂️
We've got to reveal the inner workings of the Deep state!
Maybe we can remove the code, but it will cost our lives
It's worth it for others to be able to sail freely in Valheim
Maybe with adding some code you can remove the code?
Recently when I was going to the mountains from my black forest base, lord reto was there and he was not spawned in using commands.
Anyone else have this happen???
Let’s not spread misinformation or “troll” for the sake of trolling 👍
I've never heard this before. Are you on a server with other people?
Any news of when this game will come out of 'preview' on xbox?
I installed AdGuard on IOS specifically for the will. It helps 1000%
When it's released, sometime in the next couple of years.
Lmao
Why is that funny?
Yes, but just my sister and friend. Friend is the host so only he could have spawned him, but he didn't
Are you positive? I'm not sure how else that could have happened
Yeah, he was pretty shocked
I was leaving to go get glands and then he heard me get spooked over vc
Then we dug a pit, knocked reto in, and forced him to fight a 999 star troll and similar LITERAL GODS before he went down
Yeah, he's one of the toughest mobs in the game. And shouldn't be anywhere near Black Forest
im scared...
Yep, Its the Wind direction 🙂
idk why the ocean is scaring me so much
I have clips of this encounter
But they're too big to share on discord
Good Morgen Gjall
Heh, i think most of people feel that way before their first boat trip 😄 at least i did and that was just going over a body of water that i would Now consider just a VERY big river 😁
I remember my first boating. I was transporting metal a not terribly far, or terribly near distance. I was sticking to islands in hopes of not encountering a serpent
My first sailing was for the Elder, and i didn't even know that serpents were a that time, yet i was still pretty nervous 😄
I was excited by my first sailing trip. It was the second sailing trip that I was nervous about.
Now I barely think twice about sailing solo halfway across the world.
will boats stay anchored in the spot you left em
Yes.
Be aware that mobs will attack the boat if they can’t get to you, but are active.
:( there are no mobs here :D
Trolling isn't allowed here just so you know it.
some people will actually belive you
If I was planning on doing it, would it be trolling?
Maybe we could incorporate trolls into the establishment. I mean, someone has to be into blue butts, right?
that feeling when you just beat the Queen, but you gotta go back to the Black Forest to mine some copper and tin... lol
or.. mistlands and destroy helmets and swords 🤔
yeah, but i can't get the mistlands stuff back to my base very easily. it's a pretty long boat ride.
but but.. ashlands teleporters?
just beat the queen, but haven't stepped foot in the ashlands yet. this is prep for the journey 🙂
You've just beat the queen, there's no excuse
ah
i find it kinda wierd you cant like. make a basic fishing rod first
enjoy flash from the past then 😄
What Ashland prep requires copper?
Bronze
Same question
Artisan press and shield generator both need bronze and copper respectively
and i happen to be all out, so there ya go.
and it's fine, there's a BF i haven't explored a very short boat ride away. And it will be fun to feel over powered briefly before I get humbled in the Ashlands
Not me hurriedly updating the Wiki.
were they missing that info?
The Bronze and Copper pages were, yeah.
Does ur weapon skill lvl increase ur dmg with it?
Yep.
Been using knives all game, so my sword skill is lvl 0, but I really like Krom so time to lvl up
Krom is a fantastic weapon but you'll level the skill faster with a 1 handed sword if you're going for XP gain
yeah, think I'll make a bronze sword and farm in Black forest lol
Can you still hit rocks or did they patch that?
Pretty sure they patched it but could always find a few spawners and level it that way.
the only sword i have used all game was mistwalker and by the time i finished mistlands my swords was at liked 35 so it should level fairly quickly
patched out
Tame a lox, grab a bronze sword, turn on friendly fire and hit your pet a lot 😛
Are ooze bombs really useful for anything? They seem to do very little damage
They do little damage, but can damage a lot of enemies at once.
Ahh of course
ooze bombs are great in certain dungeons
and you don't use ooze for much later anyways. might as well make the bombs 🙂
Wait can they damage me if i walk in the cloud
no, you are immune
Nice
yeah, ooze only makes ooze bomb, poison arrow, and muckshake. and ooze bomb is the best of the bunch by a lot IMO
random question: is there a place we could DL Valheim builds that others have built to showoff in videos?
Is that really a random question? Or, do you have an entirely purposeful reason for asking?
okay ill leave no worries.
There's a Valheim builds subreddit that might have value for you
There are even build channels in THIS server...
Don't think you can upload files though?
No, but you can't share builds anyway, unless they're talking about sharing entire worlds.
I read 'build' as player builds (i.e. weapon/armour combos), not 'how cool is my house?!' builds.
Ooh really?
Retrospectively reading the conversation, I feel like I may have been incorrect.
I'm a product of my upbringing. MMORPGs have a lot to answer for that I will be discussing with my psychologist in short order.
I've run with emos, and I've run with punks. I draw the line at mods!
Best place for that is in #1024264966712340510 🙂
haha alr^^
(Seriously, though, #1024264966712340510 ).
oh okay thanks :D
Even if you don't appreciate my humour, if you understood that joke you're old! 😛
you can download builds and place them in your world
even copy your own and place them in others worlds with permission
Only with mods.
oh i didnt know we were talking modless srry!
We'd be in #mods-discussion otherwise I'd presume.
Every channel outside of those specifically mentioning 'mod' in the title presume a vanilla game.
wait, i am old now? OH DAMN
Even your handle suggests as much 😛
yessr
'handle' how old are YOU?
Let's just say my knees and back prefer the days when I spend more timing sitting than standing.
Amen to that.
Might the changes to Ashlands spawn rates have also maybe changed where things spawn? Noticing Fallen Valks where I've not seen them before. Or possibly just in greater number (though I don't recall the detailed patch notes saying that).
Also, my first LAN party required coax cable and terminators.
Shouldn't have done.
huh
In your defence, I'd agree that (anecdotally) Valkyries appear more frequent. I have no empirical data to support that.
BNC and token-ring FTW baby. Such a pain in the ass to set up and debug.
BNC ❤️
best when people bought the wrong end-caps that didn't have the correct resistance 😄
Oh man... I miss those days as much as I miss tuning the EMM386.SYS files to get the Soundblaster working 😛
Yeah, there were a couple cards. You still had to make sure the memory was addressable so the games could play sounds.
Matrox? 🤔
Oh Jesus! I've empowered the Boomers!
I am a missing link between gen X and boomers 🤔
I thought Matrox was mostly a GPU company, but they might have had sound cards as well
Yeah. I'm an "elder millenial" myself
possibly
trying to remember the cards back then
Soundblaster, soundblaster 16, soundblaster AW32
uum
Gravis UltraSound
that's the one
I think AdLib was a company back in the day, Soundwave, couple smaller manufacturers
Ahh, yeah. Gravis had a lot of peripherals IIRC, too
Does anyone know what the damage increase is per lvl on weapon skill lvls?
Fair call. I am on the Millennial end of Gen-X and was being facetious (and unfair).
or more GenX - millenial. but Gen Y doesn't exist really

Gen Y is Millennial. They got renamed for some reason.
there is a "sub generation" between those born in mid 80's and before everyone had internet 😄
Yeah, that's the "elder millenial", born in the late 70's/early 80's, straddling the tech and internet boom.
I know you meant nothing by it. 🙂 But, let's not label generations with 'class'. Especially since the Boomers and Gen Alpha will certainly feel like we're relegating them. 😛

Subclass = sub-group, it's not really a status judgement.
it's like.. squeesed in there 🤔
fixed it 😉
You don't need to fix anything for me. I'm one that wants to find some people to "yes, and..." our way to outrage in the interests of dark humour.
Why do old grumpy men sound like necks?
It might be because older, grumpier necks offer up more 'tails'.
mine too... 😛
so I'm assuming those pokey rocks around Ashlands keep going all the way to the edge of the world?
Beehives in Black Forest stone Structures = new, yes? Never seen one before
Me neither until very recently
I suppose they're trying to make sure everyone has honey
Not new nope
Seen one ages ago 👍
Because we're tired of you kids bugging us
Boomers, obvs.
Weird, I've seen two in the last two days, and ive got 1000s of hours, and before that never seen one. Thought must of changed something. Interesting
it is more common to find them in meadows yes
iirc only those stone buildings with a fine wood table inside can have behives in the black forest
those buildings are somewhat rare already and not all of them can have beehives
they look similar to the skeleton buildings but have a greydwarf brute inside
Yeah, was one of the buildings with only a single brute inside, that cant fit out the door 😂
Also, was there any comment made by devs, why we cant tame Rabbits?
You can tame chickens instead, we don’t need 2 tameable animals in a single biome. (I know chickens don’t actually spawn in mistlands but it’s the same point in progression)
id rather have rabbits than chickens 😂
Guess this logic also why we cant have Deer, altho, nothing in Swamp/BF to tame
You can use trophies for pet leeches
just dont pet them
it's ok to pet them, the problem is when they want to pet you back!
Huh. They done good with ashlands spawns. Still pretty challenging but not a slog
Does a Poison Resistance Mead, or Root Mask give more resist?
yes, no, maybe, perhaps
try it
they do the same amount, and it doesn't add to each other
Ty
wait what i thought the root mask gives less than the poison resist mead
should be the same 🤔
Wiki says the mask is 50% resistance, and the potion is 75%
wiki is usually correct 🤔
The mead is ‘very resistant’ and the mask is ‘resistant’
We got the answer in the end 😄
the answer is usually. wiki 😄
It's not necessarily a bad thing to wear the mask and have the potion in places like the Swamp, if the potion wears off you still have some decent resistance. I really only use the potion for the boss fight at the end of the day.
I never remember😅 to take my poison mead so just make the mask
I haven’t used a root mask for a while, I usually use troll armor through swamps and occasionally make the harnesk, but never the full set.
Yeah, I often mix and match, I make the harnesk first, and the rest of the pieces are optional. The set bonus is nice, but not necessary.
OPA

ive decided i hate wraiths
how hard would it be to fight moder with swamp tier armor? i have an iron helm and leggings, root chest plate, and i have a draugrs fang, krom, and frostner. my friends also have swamp tier armor, and mainly mountain weapons (and the arbalest too). theres 4 of us total so i dont think itll be too hard but i js wanted to see what other ppl think
i assume we'll be fine if we just dont get hit?
You’ll do a lot of damage with the mistlands weapons and you should still be able to survive a few hits so you’ll be fine
One recommendation I have is to switch the root harness for an iron (more defense) or troll (more speed) shirt because Moder deals very little pierce damage
I did not expect Trolls to straight oneshot me e_e
No? 🙂 they are pretty big and mean looking...
I'm related to the gators obvs
Hi, anyone interested in learing spanish while playing? I am looking for someone who speaks fluent English preferably: If someone interested pls dm 🙂
oooh for the first time in quite a few playthroughs, i actually found the Yagluth stone before finding the Yagluth altar, and also i did this before finding Moder, since I am exploring for mountains
I have a portal to an island meadow that transitions to mountain so it’s very convenient to get to. I just started the Iron Age, though. How bad of an idea would it be to venture into the mountains now and then go back to the swamp with some mountain gear assuming I can get some out of the mountain?
Overall the risk seems pretty low. I can get to the biome easily so corpse runs won’t be too much of a problem
Morgen gjall.
If you are after silver you'll have to pound the ground with the stagbreaker to find it, if you finish the swamp first the boss will drop an item that will make it easier.
Do you make the Harnesk for the Resistant to Pierce?
Ok I may just putz around the swamp a bit more then
Valheim in a nutshell:
A single gray dwarf manages to destroy a single segment of your fence, and 20 of your 22 pigs escape. As you are getting the last 5 pigs corralled, you are raided by draugr and skeletons and they kill all your pigs but one small piglet.
/sigh
Pigs need to be underground in a bunker.
This game is really close to real life - one failure after another plus repeating the same mistakes
Did they ever mention if they are going to buff the blood gem?
Buff it? Not heard anything. It's great as it is.
I like it for the dundr and trollstav but the other weapons don't really do it for me.
If there was a good way to constantly be low health that might change.
A nice, high risk, high rewards game play but in my opinion the other gems bring more to the weapons than bloodstone at the moment.
what is cli que?
Clique: a small group of people who spend their time together.
It's a bit more specific than that. The group doesn't readily welcome new members and can be quite dismissive of those not in the clique.
Why do I get 10 to 21 when I'm playing alone or just two people?
FPS ? You shouldn't. Does your machine meet minimum specs? Are you running mods? In multiplayer are you on Steam or crossplay?
and what are ur pc specs
PC specification? I'm turning it to a dead server and it's 5600 32gb
The computer I access is 5600 32gb 4060ti
that should be more than enough.. strange
Does this happen everywhere or only at certain places?
If you just press f2, the value keeps changing. At an incredible speed
I don’t know AMD CPUs well. But isn’t 5600 like 3+ generations old at this point? Could it be a mismatch with a 4060? How does it perform in other games?
Also, are you only getting low FPS in high instance count areas (within main bases, or a lot of the Ashlands)?
No, I'm talking about the phenomenon where the clique changes quickly to two digits
The clique?
Based on the convo above, clique=fps.
That’s what I thought. But I’m confused now.
#valheim-chat message
Is likely their prior comment they are referring to.
The cli que is not fps. It can be seen in the f2 menu
Ah.
I have no idea what it is though, and I don’t know if it’s a problem at certain values.
Ah. LOL
All I'm getting about it, is that it is tied to servers/how a server works and possibly lag. This would be better asked in the server help section if that is true.

help I'm addicted to restarting before I reach the mistlands lol
Why do you feel the need to restart?
I take long breaks, log into whatever I was doing, go meh, and start anew, and now I have 10 characters and too many worlds.
Though I genuinely enjoy the feel of the game prior to mistlands rather than playing through it again. I tend to just break off, and not play for a few months once I hit mistlands and start over
my gf has r5 5500 and it runs smoothly on 1080p
dont take any breaks then, sweat through it until the last boss is down 😎
I already did once D:
well.. just do whats fun to u 🤷♂️
cant imagine id quit before Mistlands personally... thats where the fun begins finally for me
Grenade launcher and having minions you can summon is fun and that bubble just tops it off.
If I liked magic more I'd probably like mistlands more
I think theres a magic to the beginning of the game though, that makes playing up to the plains insanely replayable
there are lot of very good melee weapons in Mistlands
Seems to me like you have found what you enjoy. Nothing wrong with that.
Yes, jumping trolls with the abyssal razor is so much fun.
seekers and such do pierce dmg right?
pointy pointy stab stab stay away from me attacks
Seekers and ticks.
Seekers have one blunt attack but all others are pierce
Is it the landing one?
Wiki says it’s ’double claw’, I don’t know if that includes the landing attack or not.
I’ve never fought them with pierce resistance so I don’t know from my gameplay.
melee gear wise, what would be ashlands rdy?
You’ll want a mistwalker, frostner or crystal battleaxe because they’re best for 2-star charred warriors
The battleaxe is worst of those 3 but if you’ve made one before it’s good enough so you won’t need one of the others.
Goodmorning Vikings
my frostner is maxed out alrdy
Perfect. You should make some barley wine to override the feather cape’s fire weakness.
There is a surprisingly low amount of fire damage in ashlands but it could kill you easily without barley wine.
do yo know how to move a chiken, becaus ehe run away every time
It’s tough. Create a path using roundpole fences.
Easier to just hatch a new egg in the location you want
as Rudeman said, its easiest to just carry eggs and hatch them elsewhere
Also hatch them and keep a few in a cleared Troll Cave, that way they stay safe from bat raids and whatnot.
I say Bat Raid specifically because theyre small enough to get through gaps and kill chickens in a chicken coop style farm. Troll Caves are completly safe since the trolls wont respawn in them once theyre cleared
Yes, exactly
should i skip bronze armor, it seems like a complete waste
Yes, got for troll armor if you want an upgrade to your armor.
It's what I do, then root in swamp, fenris in mountains, nothing in plains.
im super new to valheim and want to build in an ideal base location for mid to late game anything I should look for. I am looking at islands that have 4 biomes meadows/forest/swamp/plains
ideally build base in meadows I think
Ideal base for me is a plains island that I spawn proof that is close to mistlands, you can farm all crops till plains and have a portal to a mistland island for the shrooms there.
is there any way to prevent the black slimes from spawning from tar pools?
Yes, building any player base items nearby.
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Player_base
Do they have to be very close?
I want to turn the 2 tar pits in my base into an onsen
If you build a workbench you will see a circle, anything in that circle will stop spawning, so cover the whole tar pit with the circles and done.
Any upgrades to the workbench will enlarge the radius.
Thanks 🤜 🤛
You could first put down a workbench and than change that to a campfire or anything else from the list you can find in the link above for aesthetic reasons.
Hiding the workbenches under a floor of little houses or shacks also works.
you mind if I send you a SS in dms of where im thinking of building not too sure if its a good idea since black forest kindve close.
#screenshots message
First sighting of Ashlands... and now to turn around and dock and prepare. Have to go to work soon, so no storming the beaches until tonight at least.
and there's a welcoming Bonemaw as I turn around and kick in Moder's power to get out of there lol
It does have a decent amount higher armor than the troll armor does, but it is outclassed very quickly with iron and root armor. It's not a waste, but it's not often "optimal" if you're skilled at the game.
i made full bronze in my first playthrough. i don't regret it. but in the second playthrough, i was trying to minimize the amount of copper/tin mining, and went with troll armor+bronze buckler.
fully upgraded bronze armor has 42 armor. same as base iron armor. so if you wanna skip iron, you could do that with bronze/troll. or ask the question "is iron armor worth it?". when you already have a full bronze armor. i did that in my first playthrough and went straight to silver gear. its basically the same for all the equipment. fully upgraded has mostly similar values as the same gear of the next biome at baselevel. so upgrading is general an option, but not a must when you know how and when to progress
I think it coms down to whether you want the Troll Set bonus or the extra armor.
you go for root armour anyway...
what do you guys think about mistland weapons? i just made himminafl and mistwalker. himminafl feels like a waste. mistwalker seems okay. does jotunbane has a niche? im running krom, spear and arbalest
jotunbane is kinda ass
okay, what about the hammer and skoll and hati
Jotun’s bane should be better because it looks so good
its called jotun bane! it better be good 😄
iron helmet seems worth
I use full troll and iron helmet
im not saying any of these armor is bad. its just numbers. bronze on 3 has the same armor as iron on 0. if you have an abundance of bronze laying around, its more economical to use the bronze helmet. i used full iron in my recent playthrough and it does its job.
Yea i skipped bronze gear cuz i hate mining copper
tbh all the light armor give you more bang for the buck than the heavy armors in general. theyre easy to get and upgrade. you dont need to dig in the dirt for them, but you fight enemies, which is way more fun and you get a lot of useful bonus effects like poison and pierce resistance or faster movement speed
I like the movement from non heavy gear, I like the with just the helm you can have the same movement so I typically just make the helmet
yea and you can just use triple health food to make up for the lack or armor
With the wood requirements for crafting and upgrading I feel like The black forest is going to just be part of the Meadows when I'm done with it.
make a tree farm
I did it it works wonders ill tell you what
Had to use a decent amount of stone to make the farm tho
i ended up making a greydwarf farm for blood magic leveling purposes, and now my eyes, rock, and wood needs are filled forever
What is stone used for in tree farm?
Can you make mob spawners or is it like in minecraft where you have to find them in the wild and build around them lol
I'm trying to go into this first playthrough not googling and automating farms and stuff but we'll see how long that lasts
I think I've found two greydwarf spawners but I've just generally avoided them because I dont kill them that fast yet
you have to find them in the wild and build around them. black forest has many greydwarf nests. so in early game, i tend to just mark them on the map and avoid them if i don't need to kill it
my guess is that they raised the terrain to make it inclined and increase the tree collision
though if you can spend 5-10 min you can use any terrain and chop the remaining trees normally (depends on the farm size ofc)
early game, just chop down trees.
well, if you don't spend time searching/modifying terrain it's very quick to make a tree farm early on, just don't expect the trees to completely destroy themselves
i think early on you're not going to have enough seeds however
true but even a small 5x5 tree farm can give a chest of wood and the amount of beech seeds only increase over time
but you're right it isn't necessary
I mean 5 tree by 5 trees
Tree seeds are not a given even though beech always seems to be plentiful. I have had 12 oak trees drop zero seeds and the next three drop 8 or 9 total. RNG can screw you sometimes. Worst luck I had was 15 oak trees gave me three seeds. When they grew I got none. RNGJeesus did not smile upon me....
well, tree farms only work for beech, regular wood
all other trees have diminishing seed returns in average iirc
Personally, I use oak seeds for decoration
yes
need bronze nails and fine wood to craft item stands
Looking for a mate to learn english and teach spanish while playing 😁
I think you mean 'Amigo'.
Amigo for a mate to learn english and teach spanish while playing
Much amigo. I'm amigo you're getting the amigo of it.
any kind soul willing to lend me a boat i lost all my stuff in the swamp and my friends quit the game bc of that 😅
They quit because you lost your own things?
they lost theirs too
we went back with our backup boat and died again
yo guys, I have played Valheim and finished everything until Ashlands
Unfortunately, my mates don’t play valheim anymore plz tell me if u r around same lvl and willing to have 1 more members to play with. i would really rather not to play ashlands solo
why not 😄 its fun solo
Gotta raise the ground around the tree farm
i love solo mode but not on survival games
I messaged you. Check your Pending
I would but I am not at home at the moment. If you still need help in 2 or 3 hours from now, ping me or message me
This happened to me.
I found a group to do Ashlands with and joined them.
I now have Ashlands gear but I sympathize. If you need help I would be willing to help get momentum going in the Ashlands
oh tysm
tnx by the way, i’m looking for a standard with at least trios/4 people survive experience with relatively same lvl in gear and…
Ok. In my experience, I had trouble finding people who were at that exact level. Many people quit before Ashlands. Those who love the game and don’t quit, have already done Ashlands.. for the most part. I have experience surviving. But I understand if you are looking for a group of 3 or 4. Good luck.
yeah my priority is the number of the party to interact with while playing, i am even ok with replaying lower biomes too. the game itself is easy i don’t have trouble for finishing it solo
Sure, I might not respond today though, this is probably the last time I check discord today.
any norwegians here?
will there come more? is there a new roadmap?
The final biome, Deep North will come in the next year or so.
oh okay... sad
Why?
Because we wish for the game to die and never leave early access
💡 Don't release Deep North
Valheim I don't think will ever die. Its one of those games, you can replay countless times, and still enjoy 😄
Did this new update make Ashlands way easier? I just explored it for the first time and it wasn't as bad as I have been reading
Way easier? No, but it is easier than it was.
ah, I wished I had experienced it before the change. Thank you
i need to find a good sp seed
You'll get one if you start a new world.
guys can I ask a question?
You just did
You cannot
Which one is more effective? One tank and 2 wizard or 3 wizard
we playing valheim 3 player
First option
In all honestly, play what you enjoy.
why
One to lure enemies and attract attention while other two bombard them with attacks
thanks bro
I think there will be updates adding small amounts of content before the final biome content.
An update was just announced and confirmed that should be out in the next several months.
I am hoping for some sort of update similar to Hearth n Home to add some like building things or furniture things or foods or craftablea etc before the large Deep North biome
Keen to see what the witches hut brings 😄
500 iron that it will be released between early October and mid november (either ptb or live version)
is the deep north supposed to be like the last thing they add?
Original Roadmap from years ago, had Ocean Biome update too, so hoping we get that
as if it wasnt scary enough
It's safe to ignore anything from a three year old removed road map.
they did say the roadmap is canned, and there will probably not be a full ocean biome anyway with a boss, DN boss will be last one that has also been confirmed beforehand. We might get some small ocean things, we just did get something for ocean though, the changed boiling ocean with the spikes
Let me have hope, i love the ocean 😄
when would you guys consider yourself ready to fight the queen with a melee only build?
i waited until i had max heavy armor and max mistwalker, but it was my first time doing her so i wanted to be extra prepared, you can probably do her earlier
i had a huge stockpile of iron tho so i felt like the upgrades were really easy
fair enough im not really into heavy armor. i have max fenris legs, root harnesk and carapace helm with mistwalker. have some pretty good foods and major healing meads + poison resist meads. im assuming you cant come much more prepared than that?
Ah the inevitable “this settlement is dog shit and the urge to knock it all down and redesign” has struck
Def bring the root harnesk, it'll be a good thing to have 👍, in the weapons department I'd grab demolisher + himmin afl + spinesnap alongside mistwalker
Oh and if you can pack ooze/bile bombs they're pretty handy
There any word on what’s after ashlands? If anything?
there will be a smaller content patch, some spoilers for that in the last blog, something new in swamp etc, and then there will probably be the Deep North massive update, which might be the last super big patch with a boss and a full biome, and might even bring the game out of early access, if they will do another something after or in between no one really knows, but the devs have also said they want the game to have an end
ok i killed the queen for the first time not bad at all only died once in the beginning. One of my favorite bosses in the game now.
used skoll and hati to kill broods and sekers quickly and mistwalker for the queen
Looking for someone to learn english and teach spanish while playing 😮
haven't you posted that wish quite a few times in the last days? Chances are if you have not gotten a response to it from a spanish learner there is none? you could though post over in the servers-and-lfg because there it would stick and be found if someone had an interest?
hola amigo
Is that smelted or raw ore?
We dont want the game to end tho 😦
It has to end eventually, iron gate can’t work on the same game forever.
I tried to use a wooden chair to get inside a crypt, and i sat on it, and now im stuck inside the gate that i cant open and it wont let me in the crypt 😂
Anyone need help with anything. I'm a bit bored.
lol need someone to open the crypt for ya XD
My daughter is coming to save me with her char, but thanks 😛
Note to all valheim players, never trust your son.
XD i'll have to keep that in mind.
Morgen gjall.
Finally got to Ashlands.
is root fang an asslands wpn?
Yes, ash fang with a jade stone upgrade.
Yo I died and my gravestone despawned
does this happend a lot?
with console i can't use cheats to gain my stuff back. It tells me that devcommands don't exist
Gravestones, don't despawn.
They might get hidden by terrain but shouldn't despawn.
have you enabled the console: https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Developer_console#Enabling_the_console
Then press f5 and type devcommands and press enter.
Now type something like: spawn SwordIron
That will get you an iron sword, for more itemids check: https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Item_IDs
Smelted. Fully processed
This can happen if you close the game shortly after dying. Did you do that?
You could load a character backup from the character select menu
Wait until you’ve respawned, and save the game before leaving.
@nocturne wolf u helped me a lot. Thanks a million!
Does anyone wanna play vallheim w me
My and my friends bought the game but some drama happened and we broke up, but we haven't finished so yeah
I want to finish it
#1024264966712340510 is the place to find other Valheimians, browse at your leisure or make a post yourself.
the dilemma of having a beautiful base but wanting to build a mistlands base anyway 😭
Why not have both and link em with a portal, the beatiful base boasts your kills and wealth and you go there to chill out and just putter around with whatever.
The mistland base is something practical that is only build with what is the minimum this needs and don't exceed that.
i kinda like that idea, maybe a grand mage-esque tower on a high spot of mistlands ?
Black marble tower could look awesome.
Afternoon gjall 😄
what was the req's for eitr refinery?
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Eitr_refinery
Black marble x20
Black metal x5
Yggdrasil wood x10
Black core x5
Sap x3
thankke
using that for the base would be really neat
Yeah but remember you don't want anything else besides iron and black marble near it else those things will get destroyed by the sparks.
Indeed.
why is this game so frickin addictin
i got all my 400hrs within like the last 2? months
I need to come back to this😭 I think it's legit been a year
well it is gonna stay addicting and then you play some more and whoopsie you land at 2200+ hours 😄
i never managed to not play longer than 2 weeks or so... if i am super busy and have lots of appointments with friends...but play for on hour in the morning before work is always doable 😄 ...severe valheim addict 😦
ive accidentally mass farmed boars
1 hour in valheim is legit nothing. i constantly find myself just playing 8-10 hours without even realizing i have been playing for long at all. if i only have an hour to play i find it hard to even get on valheim because i know i wont be able to accomplish much
when i first started i thought they were being generous with food durations lasting 20-30 min. but then i realized that those 20-30 min are going to fly by in 3-4 min
well... 1h is two ingame days... i can do a lot of running around in two in game days 😄
infact if you are sleeping the night it is nearly 3 days to run around...
in part because the effects of food legitimately don't last the duration they're listed with. Their stats start quickly eroding halfway through
yea thats fair
its kinda silly, I really don't like it -- the descriptions should be more clear and explicit when it comes to stats like that -- or at the very least don't give specific numbers and give vague, generic descriptions instead
let my guard down for 1 second and almost die
I know it's subjective and the "best build" depends on your goals and playstyle, but I'm curious...
What build is "optimal" for, lets say, surviving the longest in the ashlands
I'm interested if anyone would argue that Asks set is better than the Flametal set, for instance, because a skilled player can survive longer using the stamina cost reductions.
I used Askvin set because the maneuverability helped more than damage mitigation
The ask set is better for everything except taking unblocked hits (but why would you do that?) and swimming in boiling water / lava (again, why?)
Interesting, is that the general consensus do you think?
I played Ashlands when it was released before mob spawns were nerfed, and overall back then that seemed to be the consensus
Huh, I would have thought the extra armor would make more of a difference and it'd be a closer call. I'm personally wearing the Ask set because I have the Need for Speed, but I wasn't necessarily convinced it was optimal until now
I played most of the earlier biomes as a tank build, but definitely preferred the maneuverability of the askvin set in Ashlands due to the number of mobs and the need to be able to avoid them effectively
Unless you want take unblocked hits or go in lava or boiling water, there is no benefit to flametal armor
But it does help if you do these accidentally
So does that mean Asksvin cape > Ashen, or do the other stamina benefits make up for the lower speed?
I always use feather cape
Same. I did askvin armor set with the feather cape
Just always made sure I had the fire resist mead on board at all times
Even though Ashlands isn't nearly as vertical as some of the other biomes (particularly Mistlands), the feather cape is still useful
I find that I can't avoid taking some unblocked hits no matter how well I'm playing, at least from the occasional stray projectile in big fights. Also, doesn't the armor reduce the damage overflow when you block strong hits too?
As long as you have sufficient health, the occasional hit isn't a big deal
It affects the overflow, but by an insignificant amount.
Also, it helps to play in combination with someone in a mage build who can give you the bubble
My partner played mage, and I was ranged/melee depending on the situation
Not everyone plays in multiplayer though
This is true. Still, when I was playing alone, I tended to die a lot less with my build than he did when he was playing alone in the mage build
I see, does this depend in part on weapon / shield choice? I've been using Himminafl, and I'm thinking there's an argument to be made that it's the optimal weapon for surviving the ashlands because of the insane knockback and multi-hit of its secondary.
But weapons don't have a ton of block armor, so unless you're parrying everything (impossible in really big fights), you're going to be taking more significant overflow with 64 block armor instead of like 128 or w/e.
You don’t need to parry anything with a polearm, a spin can stagger most enemies
Though it seems like the Thundering Berserker axes are the GOAT as far as DPS, for max survivability DPS is probably not the most important feature.
I don’t like the axes, their recovery time is too long to be useful against many enemies, such as morgens and 2-star charred warriors
Except the really big ones, the Fallen Valkyrie and the Morgen
There are better weapons in Ashlands than Himminafl - I was personally a fan of one handed swords - Nidhogg the thundering was my go-to
Flametal shield or Carapace buckler?
I’d use the buckler with 2 stamina and the shield with 2 health.
Also, could you reliably one-shot charred marksmen (no star) with the secondary?
Flametal buckler, or shield, depending
Uh, is that from a mod? I thought there wasn't a Flametal buckler
I meant round shield
There are two flametal shields, a round shield and a tower shield. I used both depending on the situation
I was thinking the reduced stagger limit from 2 stamina foods made that less optimal, but I'm guessing with buckler + parry, you don't accumulate as much stagger
Sorry, it's been a few months since I played - killed Fader for the second time on 17th June and put the game on ice until Deep North comes out
Makes sense, no worries I legit thought I might have been missing out on a Flametal buckler somehow 😅
Bucklers are the perfect shields for stamina diets - parrying more costs a ton of stamina but the high parry armor allows you to parry more attacks with low health
If I’m using a health diet I’d use a normal shield because I don’t see why I’d use a shield that can only parry well if I can parry and block.
I feel like buckler + Nidhogg the thundering would struggle a little more against groups though, no?
This is what I usually did because my normal diet is 2H 1S
Yeah, the round shield was usually my emergency back up
Is there also a consensus around sword and shield being the "optimal?" That feels fuzzier to me
Different weapons and shields are good in different situations and against different enemies, there is no optimal.
I figured this is the response I'd end up with, but I was still curious what people thought of the question.
Thanks everyone for all the input so far, I've learned a bunch of stuff
Ok totally unrelated question; is there a mod that makes tames more manageable / useful? Or some way to make them try to follow you when you dismount? I've lost like three asksvin saddles when my mount went sprinting off as soon as I dismounted, got lost, and presumably died but I never found it.
Don't need armor if you don't get hit. Between the maneuverability of the ask set and the damage mitigation of the tower shield, I dont need the extra armor to dominate the ashlands.
Not that I've found. We ended up not doing much using mounts, even Askvin due to it just being easier to do things on foot
its pretty rare for mounted combat to be an improvement in any game...
I felt it was very well done in Elden Ring and the recent Zelda games
Well considering that equipping a weapon automatically dismounts you, I wouldn't say there is mounted combat in Valheim at all
my only experience with a mount was a lox. and it seemed not worth it except for moving my 2 breeders
i wonder what it feels like with a high riding skill however
Yeah, we mainly used riding for moving Lox/askvin to new locations
even in elden ring you'd rather be on the ground for 9/10 fights
Not much better
that's too bad
More practice makes them easier to maneuver, but beyond that doesn't improve it much
they should make high riding skill unlock the ability to shoot a ranged weapon while mounted, or use staffs 🙂
Part of the issue is them aggroing on everything
lets mount a shield generator a lox lol
Mounted fighting was really its own entire combat style / skill in Elden Ring, and you couldn't use it effectly in every fight, but it felt pretty viable / smooth at least. If you wanted to play a mounted knight, you totally could. Not really a thing in Valheim, but even the mobility benefits are wasted with the current system.
YES
oh man that would be hilarious
and only against fire golems does it actually help xd
anyone here who wants to play? english/norwegian
Siege Lox. Give me Ballistae saddles and Battering helms!
i want to see someone breeding lox in the Ashlands.
People in #1024264966712340510 want to play
i've had one failed attempt at getting the drakkar to the beach so far. i'm taking a break before trying again. i can't imagine wanting to ever do it again after i succeed
i learned that archer skellies on a boat are useless against bonemaws, because they can't get an attack angle. and they might have been shooting my boat in fact
so yeah, contributed to that failed attempt
Getting the drakkar to a beach is rough. Dodging the spires and then having to deal with voltures (and maybe bonemaw) as well.
the skellies would have helped with voltures if i ran into those. i didn't however, just some angry bonemaws hah
next attempt tonight
i'm not going to bother with skellies until i hit ground this time. i'm more concerned about keeping the ship afloat and dealing with bonemaws.
so new plan is frost staff for bonemaws until out of eitr, then switch to arbalest with carapace bolts while eitr regens. then workbench on spire and immediately fix ship. hell, maybe i'll do that during the bonemaw fights actually, first time eitr is regenning.
for the first time, i'm envious of people who play with friends. usually i love solo
Playing with people ramps up the enemy health and damage. They may have been useful for getting to shore but everything would hit much harder once you landed.
does dmg scale with people as well? i thought it was just health
Creature damage is further increased by 4% and effective health is further increased by 30% for each additional player within 100 meters. These are also applied to tamed creatures. This scaling caps at 5 players.
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Creature_Level
oh ok thats fair
the damage scaling is pretty minor, honestly. i think the consensus i've seen is that a group of players tends to have an easier time with normal creature combat.
but for me, i was mostly thinking about the beach approach, and juggling killing bonemaws and reparing the drakkar
The scaling doesn't take into the fact that with several players, one can take the aggro while the others recover health etc and then swap out.
The Drakkar has enough HP where you shouldn't need to repair it trying to get to shore. You're probably better off stopping at one of the rocks just offshore rather than actually landing. Build a portal there and use that as a base of operations to plan your landing.
say that to the 2nd bonemaw that destroyed the ship lol
I'll do it thank you, I haven't found anyone yet
how far is the elder from the rest of your setup? I'm fine helping you get back if the travel isn't too too long
what do you mean?
ah okay, well if you wanna go now and it's not too far, I can kill the boss in a few seconds and make it a safe zone to get your stuff back. totally up to you
fair enough lol
frost arrows with spinesnap bow are probably better than whatever you can do with a crossbow
Yikes, you allowed it to live that long?
finally after 20 ingame days i found a flametal leviathan... now things look up... and the plethora of new food ❤️ I killed countless foe just to find that first flametal... i landed in a particular stupid spot it seems 😄 but hey... i managed to die only once the day after landfall ... like 3 warriors several twisters an asksvine and then came 2 voltures... small wonder i got overwhelmed in my mistland gear 😄 and now it is time for bed good night fellow vikings
just FYI as long as you're not super far east or west in the ashlands, there should be a ton of flametal deposits (ref yellow icons here: #screenshots message)
hey man, i was trying!
after several hours of resource gathering i finally get to start my end game base
Anyone lookint to start a game fresh from the begining?
i will consider making the bow. once i got the arbalest i switched to that. but this scenario, bow is probably better
People in #1024264966712340510 might be
I checked and mostly are into servers and modded stuff.. so I shot my shot here
Well, you need a server to play with, so that's still your best place
eh is fine
You can filter tags to find exactly what you’re looking for
true but ... there are old posts... but anyway ty
There are also several in the last hour, but I think you've made your decison.
i have so many markers on my map
it also doesn't take into account the different DPSs of different builds.
You can remove them by right clicking.
should i skip iron armor and go for root, ima t troll armor rn
If you're a light armour user then that's absolutely an option.
surely 2 blackmetal chests full of balck marble will be enough to at least get a decent ammount of my build done
There’s never enough black marble
im gonna do the hilders bosses first, 5 hours of mining, gotta go fight something
root armor ain't bad 🤔
Valheim wouldn’t be the same without the root harnesk
please don't nerf haha, it protects from the only thing that kills me in swamp, starred draugr archers, also protects me from forgetfulness (not taking poison mead before I get poisoned) and the bowskill and the good looks are just a bonus
why would we nerf it when I say it's good?
Because you can take 0 damage from the current final boss with root harnesk and serpent scale shield? (Please don’t nerf though)
I dunno, I'm actually happy that a lot of good things have been left in the game, I'm not sure if all of them were intentional or not
like using doors to get finewood 😛
I somehow find that impossible 🤔
Well I blocked his spin and a damage number didn’t even show, and other attacks were 0.1
Flametal helmet and boots were used too
imma check it tomorrow. but he does fire, and root armor is weak against fire 🤔
All of his physical damage is pierce, except the meteors with very low blunt
And the weakness can be overridden with barley wine
Fader easier than Queen thats for sure
if queen killed you why do you disagree that she is harder than fader? read what i wrote haha
True. But what if a player uses Root Harnask and a Barley Wine to negate the vulnerability of fire?
When a player does that, the Root Harnask may actually be a good choice when fighting Fader.
might actually try that next run, I do also like just using magic though against him
you're never immortal 🤔
Taking 0 damage from the final boss feels pretty close to immortal
I s'pose when using the right combination of armor, shields, food and potions you may become quite close to it.
Add some player skills about dodge / rolling and block / parrying to it and you certainly could achieve some sort of "immortality".
Edit: And there's of course the rested bonus to help you boost some things as well.
I can't imagine you actually get 0 damage, just low.
0.1 or less is close enough, isn’t it?
The damage numbers aren’t precise enough
if you have a decent bow level it should be capable of significantly more DPS (where crossbow leveling is very slow, and it benefits reload speed less)
anybody starting a server from scratch?
How have I not noticed the new progress bar for creating new worlds before? (Well, I know why, I haven't created a new world before).
I dunno.
Have you checked https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510 yet? People in there may know.
It’s the fix to the stopped responding window that previously showed when generating a world
No, I realise that, I'd just never seen it before, it's cool.
I just died for the first time on my server, and went from 75 sword to 72, wtf...
Remember to respect a 2 star trolls, ground slam that hits twice 😂
You mean their typical 3 overhead - 1 ground slam - 3 overhead - 1 ground slam where the pause timer between attacks halves sandwiching the ground slam?
I thought i could parry the Ground Slam, but the first hit staggered me, and the second killed me 😂 (Cos ground slam hits twice, i guess cos 2 fists?)
I think the hit and the AOE are separate technically
Yeah, normally shows 2 parry hits, when normal and 1 star does the slam.. Just bad judgement on my behalf, learnt a valuable lesson 😛
when in doubt, go for the dodge roll
I fully went into that expecting to be able to parry, otherwise iw ould have
fair lol
looking for a good builder to help us build a coliseum on a private server
really love the dual axes for woodcutting fast power attack 😄
I just wanted to say something, I have played video games since I was a young teenager, in the 90s. First PC game was Total Annihilation. In my opinion there is less than 5 games that are as good as Valheim, its such a masterpiece!
I think maybe the developers made the later parts a bit to grindy were it didnt need to be
if anything, the worst of the 'grind' is towards the beginning.
I think its not that much gring really, the biggest grind in Mist is tissue, cores you don't need that many really, even on multiplayer more than enough, Ashlands is too short on solo if anything, Dyrnwyn sorta is a fix to that, I think its close to perfect (the one thing is the rarity of gems in multiplayer Ashlands, that can be a problem but for solo no issue at all)
the seals to open the queens lair was a real pain for me. I visited like 13 mines to collect them
Imo 13 is acceptable, I usually want a certain amount of cores these days and jelly so crack open a lot of mines, never had a shortage of that really tbh
having to do 13 seems hard. i think i only did 5? and by the 5th, i had no real reasons to visit mines anymore. granted, i wasn't using magic in mistalnds. just stockpiling jelly
my first pc game was also Total Annihilation
If luck is not on your side, it can feel grindy. Had a really hard time finding mines in my latest playthroug and none had more than 2 black cores
does anyone know the name of the mod/file that used to be needed to prevent desync on a private server with a lot of objects? I think it changed the data transfer speed limits in game, or something like that
or did they fix that in the base game at some point since I last played?
Mods certainly won't help if you're suffering lag.
omg, if this were general I would very happily share my love of modern open source spiritual successors like BAR and Zero-K
you are not alone 😦
no it was about the amount of objects or instances or whatever in one area that would cause desync with multiple people because of (I think) the transfer rate limits in game, there was some obscure fix with a file that changed the limits and it would fix the desync, but the last time I played was almost a year ago so I was hoping that they fixed it in the base game, but I don't remember what the mod was called
I find the skulls to be a much bigger grind in all my playthroughs, cores come eventually especially if you know what the mine formation spawns look like.
o.o most bases are still around 7k to 10k instances so I dunno about that. @thin fog
Too many instances can certainly cause lag, but there's an easy fix there. Objects despawn outside of bases over time or you could run the removedrops command.
mods add a little to the issue but it's an issue either way without the fix
"Network" iirc
by smoothbrain
Yeah, outside of fixing your underlying issues make sure everyone is running on a decent connection to the server.
that's quite the mod and mod creater names
thanks I will check it out
Mod help will go on #mods-discussion though.
Was the same for me in previous playthroughs, but this time I found all the skulls I could need while searching for mines
it's a game issue not a server/connection issue
It's not a game issue, no.
yes, it is, I've put like a thousand hours in the game and the mod is what fixes it
all the skulls I could need
doubtful 🤔
Either you have too many instances or one or more players has a naff connection.
same thing will happen without any mods if you build a 30 story base
Of course!
if you don't change the transfer limits in the game, you will get desync, game issue lol
Oh the joys of RNGesus!
Why on Earth do you think the game should support that?!
do you know if it still works with the current patch? last update was like 10 months ago lol
