And you save on some mobility penalties from using a buckler
It's not as good as a dedicated shield but it's surprisingly viable~
aahhh bad memory ^^"
Same with 2h weapons I've found, the battleaxe is a beast at parrying and killing abominations
that i'm very familiar with personally, being an atgeir main
i ram the cart to the ward inside dvergr house and rebuild their house. If I put wand inside, will it protect them from the monsters?
a new ward? it does not protect anyone from monsters
wat about the building? will it increase the HP of the building?
the ward only stops other players opening chests and doors etc and will alert you if something is getting damaged, thats all it does
thanks!
oh I forgot, it also looks cool ๐
Morgen gjall.
god morgen!
I got a question, how much skills is lost on death n how much does the lower difficulties lower it to?
Itโs 5% at default. World modifiers can set it to 1%, 2.5%, 7.5% and 100%
sweet, thank you.
now I wonder if I should do 2.5% or 1%, I just know 5% is too much for me. never got a skill much past 40 in over 300 hours lol
As you play more youโll be losing your skills less
yea but you'd think id see some improvement in 300 hours :p
i'll just have it lowered in my own world anyways, I usually play on my buddies world n he keeps the setting default
Iโm the same, 1500hrs and still mostly 40s if I keep at default. I dropped it to 2.5 and thatโs good for me, if I play conservative and donโt die I can get my skills to 60 ish
Well that was before Ashlands PTB, my run skill was 80 I think. Now itโs in ruins
I hope they'll do some tweaking to skill training, some skills train really easy others not at all.
I have like 40+ in elemental magic but around 10 in blood magic, while I use both very heavily but the shield often lasts its full duration and the skeletons and troll do good work but in ashlands they serve more as a distraction and often get ranged down and can't do any damage, so no skill is gained.
yea its probably a skill issue but I dislike how grindy some skills are, makes the skill loss devastating
I lowered mine to 2.5, hoping it helps me lol
Best place to grind skele trophies?
Swamp, skeleton spawner.
good morning fellas, been some time since I've been around
There's been some words on how the update that is in PTB is going? It's been some time and I've barely heard anything from the devs, I guess there is some summer vacation involved with that but still, found it weird that I haven't heard anything
Guys help
I'm literally tweaking here
THERE'S DRAUGRS IN MEADOWS
PLUS I HAVE TWO EITHYRS ON MY MAP
What in the world is going on here
only at certain distance from spawn ๐ and each boss has multiple altar locations
Whats with the draaugrs help
There's these houses right in meadows and there's draugrs in every house
they have some villages in meadows, you can ignore those if you want but they are a good source of entrails
I WANNA MAKE THIS MY OWN BASE
I thought its a bug but nah uhhhh I'm eating them up it's a perfect place for a base
then go kill them off ๐ (also your caps lock seems to be stuck ๐ )
hi guys im new here is there like one giant server where everyone on the discord plays?
I'm just so hyped my fault
nope, game is for 1-10 players
but if you want servers then we have #1024264966712340510 ๐
No, there are some modded servers that can have more than 10 players and maybe you can find them in #1024264966712340510 .
@green remnant Where's your Server I will help
necks are so cute
Is there no channel for the board game yet?
why would there be?
they are essentially different games, only sharing the names of things and not much more hahah
for example I want to ask what are the languages planned for the crowfunding
the queen is such a shit boss i cant
that spew attack was absolutely obnoxious
still cant get over of how hard of a boss she is
She's much better as part of a group. Moreso than any other boss I'd say
With magic she was rather easy, the only boss I haven't died to so far.
Skeletons with bubble as distraction, ember staff to kill all the extra's quickly and keep on kiting her around.
I noticed the battleaxes have a special jumping attack that I can do sometimes
does anyone know exactly how the inputs work?
do you mean the big two handed axe or the two smaller axes you hold in each hand?
well most weaapond have secondary attacks, on pc you do it when clicking on mmb (middle mouse button)
Can I play with anyone im a bit new
#1024264966712340510 ๐
#1024264966712340510 is the place for that, either post something yourself or browse at your leisure.
Tanks
you just jumped and attacked...
That's not the correct attack
The board game hasn't even been released
It is likely that Iron Gate have little to no knowledge of that. Licensing was probably done through Coffee Stain. And even they likely have little to no knowledge of those things. You would probably need to reach out to MOOD (the publishers of the board game), or maybe look on BGG to see if itโs been asked and answered thereโฆ
well the history of most of channels was wiped unfortunatelly, it will take time to recover things like seeds that took years to gather
old seeds are invalid now
The most famous valheim seed everyone knows nolonger works
There are some good biomes I played in:
gLESUvIPG6
HHcLC5acQt
BEEBObeebo (Only one I remember it has all the bosses except the queen and fader close by the spawn and also a maypole close to spawn.)
Maybe search for seeds in the valheim Reddit. Plenty of posts there.
I wonder if there's a way I can engineer it so mobs fall into my moat but can't get back out
Need a slide trap lol
morning
How does using tames for base defense work?
Donโt they just wander off if not contained? And if contained, how do they get to the enemies?
That's what I'm trying to solve above. I have a deep deep moat full of wolves. But unless the enemies just fall in there, the wolves are useless. I could harpoon big monsters, but I wanted it to be automated. Blobs raid really did a number on the wolves.
You scream
I?
I think some mobs might try to jump the moat, hit the wall, and then fall into the moat. Seekers for example.
I wonder if I lined the rim of the moat with 45 degree roof pieces if that could cause mobs to fall in
They do want to attack the wolves. Just need a little help to get in there
i'm trying to prevent them from running wild and reproducing too much and killing FPS. not that i know how much of a risk that is
It's possible to get earthwalls to just the right angle that enemies line up close to it, and starts sliding downward, or sometimes might need a little push. But can't walk back up.
It's generally pretty tricky, and I have only pulled it off on purpose a couple of times. But did use it to make enemies fall down a thin chute down to my army of lox.
I don't think I'd try to do that for the entire outer side of a moat though.
yeah, if it's tricky, it's probably good enough to set it up at a few spots
i will experiment with the 45 roof later tonight i think, it's a fast test
It worked very well for me, since I made a single opening in the earth walls around (this was my crazy lox farm, and I ended up digging the lox down 8 meter, and the walls up 8 meter, for 16meter difference and they still lox-siege-towered ove and escaped!)
lox are crazy. i have a farm of them too, and they love standing on each other.
Mostly in order to lead the enemies close enough so they could get inside, and stop making my stupix lox siege tower above my corners.
and i'm dug down as deep as i can also
Should still have a couple of pictures from that farm.
HHcLC5acQt is a straight out lie.
@rianumeeves Huh?
Oooh, I kinda like HHcLC5acQt even if it's a bigger landmass than I usually prefer.
you have VERY clean moat walls. your terraforming skill is chef's kiss
It's my one building skill in this game :p I like terraforming more than building >_<
is it just me or are enemies relentless in following you??
they follow for a certain time period after they make an attack. they give up when they can't get a swipe at you after a certain time
yeah, well that makes the chases infinite when something around equal your speed is chasing you
you can sprint, they can't. you need more stamina and/or manage sprinting vs walking better
i'm in the mistlands for the first time ever, and i can't really get away from one starred seekers. cam
i've been able to outrun every single mob in the game so far, when needed
okay, i haven't done mistland mobs yet. No experience past plains. But you've been able to outrun earlier mobs, haven't you? or is this the first time in the game you've tried to run away?
the heavy armor makes it a lot harder to run away from mobs
Seekers can catch up to you if they fly, otherwise you can outrun them. They don't always fly, if they do wait for them to get close, let them initiate the landing attack, dodge, and run.
if i'm serious about running, i unequip weapon and shield. i also try not to wear ALL heavy armor. just 1 piece usually
itโs worth just taking the fenris armor to the mistlands for early trips
I'd say no. I prefer heavy armour in mistlands. I just did a play where I ended up low on iron and lots of frostcaves so went with Fenrir armour fully upgraded into mistlands, and it made the mines horrible, I kept dying to normal no star seekers. I couldn't block enough with shield.
It would probably work if I went more for bow/atgeir/demolisher style, and just try to not get hit, and run away if they get close.
oh yeah not with any close melee weapon
you could bring both. fenris for normal exploring and carapace/padded for mines
Think that they just damaged enough through normal blocks that I'd die in 3 hits, if 2 hits rapidly I got staggered and would die on the next hit anyways. So yeah I really missed my heavy armour.
i do want to experiment some time with all heavy armor + tower shield play style. maybe i'm a masochist
It's a lie. I tried inputting it when making a new world, and it's not the same.
english may not be your native language, but "it's a lie" isn't the right phrasing here
the only place i
more like "that seed isn't working properly for me when i try it"
've found to contain the red things i need to make the mistlands stuff is guarded by a 1 starred seeker
it's camping the entrance, what do i do?
kill it?
If it's standing at the enterance, you can go in, smack it and go right out again to heal up, rince and repeat.
kite it away?
it's on the inside of the damn mine
another problem, there's one right outside aswell
Then probably deal with the one outside first. Hopefully you have more space to move around there.
i don't get why they have to spawn in places you literally HAVE to go when you just enter the biome, it's impossible to kill these things with early armor
i'll try not to victim blame, but why did you run into the mine without dealing with the outside one first? any instance dungeon, i always clear the outside, drop a workbench and portal. maybe you need to step back and look at your tactics
Hmm, I didn't feel like that. Going into mistlands with padded, BM shield and frostner, 1h2s foods I did decently well.
I still had to learn enemy movement and attacks, and died a few times. struggled with some enemies, especially 2* seekers and 1-2* soldiers in the start.
I'll admit that my last game, not having the iron, and going into Mistland mines with Fenrir armour was a bad experience, but that was also something I could have done something about. (Gone and found more iron to make padded)
they're impossible to get away from and almost impossible to kill, unless you can do some scummy entrance-exit strat. Had to shoot the MFer dusins of times to kill
what is your gear? and food
Strange.
the best i can make. Besides, it's not only the one starred ones, the normal ones i have to hit like 5 times with frostner max level
I found seekers to be worse in situations where they can group up on you (mines) than when you have the area to move around. When fighting them I always try to find open space outside of the mines. And in the mines I tend to try to lure them into chokes.
sounds like you just want to complain then? that's cool, people can stop suggesting things at that point. venting is a thing i guess
we'll you've not tried the mistlands before, they're always in groups and you can't really run away from them. The terrain makes it hard enough by itself, but you literally can't see anything even with the whipser thingy
i haven't, that's true. but lots of people here have gotten past it. so there must be a strategy that works for those people. but i also know that there's a HUGE difference in how some people play the game, and some strategies just don't work very well.
ranged and aoe weapons are good for seekers
bm atgeir, iron sledge, you can throw the fang spear
fr? aha. i have to shoot the darn things 10 times with needle arrows and dragr fang
Seekers resist physical damage, at least from the front. I know soldiers have a weak spot behind that doesn't, I don't remember about seekers.
So elemental damage works better. Frost arrows for example will do more damage than needle. They'll both show grey numbers, because they resist the piercing, but look at the damage numers, frost still does lot more damage.
yeah, they resist blunt, pierce, slash
they resist it but theyโre weak to it at their back
If you get them 1 by 1, and learn the timing of their attacks parrying them and smacking them still works.
so any aoe attack that hits their back does massive damage
A heavy attack from an Atgeir, particularly Blackmetal or Himminafl, can stagger normal and even single-star Seekers. The spinning swing is also very effective at forcing them off ledges, allowing the player a moment to catch their breath or retreat to safety.
My main strategy against seekers and soldiers first time was parry and alt attack with Frostner.
that's good to know. heavy attack can stagger 1star seekers
Guys, this game is really easy
alright, i killed the dusins of seekers, but now there's a seeker soldier? i've shot this 6 times already and that took 1/8th of it's total health
Simply die 200 times in a row and any bunch of mobs is dead
Soldiers are tanky, they're basically lox
it is literally easy, everything just has insane damage and health + always being out of stamina
Seeker Soldiers are unusually durable and are resistant to all physical damage. Attempting to kill a Seeker Soldier using bow or crossbow without elemental damage is resource-inefficient and will take a long time.
But honestly, learning new monsters and finding out how to beat them was a large part of what I find fun in this game.
Exactly, I don't read about all the new things until I will experience them
hard to do without dying, especially when it's so horrible having to get your stuff back
yeah, i enjoyed when i was first learning the game. the early "oh shit a troll oh fuck", and the transition to "oh, nice, a troll, free loot and mining help", even with the same gear
And only then (probably) will read some articles about these mobs
First Gjall was really scary xDD
You'll die in the game, that's a given. So the goal should be to find ways to make it as easy as possible to get things back. Finding safe places to place portals, so you can quickly get back to your stuff etc.
I still find Gjalls scary, and I know I can take them out easily.
yeah, well you can't really do anything against the visibility and terrain coupled with fast enemies that won't ever stop chasing you
Btw, does everyone use a hoe and 3-4 stacks of stone to make a safe place anywhere? xD
I terraform way too much.
no, it looks ugly
These ground walls are so OP. Ugly, but efficient
Do you have either of the things that help with visibility? There's a thing that will help with the terrain too.
i've got the whisper thing, haven't been able to make anything else that helps
literally just got into the mistlands for the first time
So you have the thing that follows you?
yep
The visibility and terrain of mist are horrible, no argument there. I really don't like the biome. But I've mostly gotten used to the combat, and with full plains gear I don't really struggle there any longer. Having learned the enemies and how to deal with them. I don't feel that I can't outrun seekers, it's more that Mistlands means running away itself is dangerous because of sight and terrain.
So I mostly just learned to kill enemies as I meet them, isolate them and kill them off 1 by 1. And use the terrain against them.
Cool. That's the most important thing. There's something else that will help with the terrain. But you'll need a few things from the Mistlands to make it.
i should make the sword, right?
Yes. It's good. Like will take you into the next biome good.
damn, thanks :)
So, you have all the mats for it?
i think so
if so you should also have the mats for the thing that helps with terrain...
oh, unless you don't have the required crafting bench...
i haven't unlocked it yet i think, so i don't think i do
not done a mistlands dungeon yet?
is it the lantern you're thinking abt? ๐ Maybe it's because i haven't upgraded the black forge yet
no.
dungeons are frustratingly rare, and the critical loot from them is as well -- significant chance of not getting anything worthwhile.
how nice
yeah, just don't freak out if you don't find anything, just keep exploring
Ugh yeah the Mines and the cores are a significant pain point with Mist. It's like the burial chambers of BF and surtling cores, just worse, much worse. I really dislike that part.
It's so crucial to clean all the rooms one by one
Pray to RngJezzus on the mines. I have had several play throughs where it took 5 to 8 mines to get everything. I have also had one that I got everything in two mines that were really close to each other and queen was almost next to that. RngJeezus holds the key to your mistlands future... give thanks when rewarded and try not to curse when coming up empty.
Erm. Its the other way around. We where the ones working with MOOD on the game from start to finish ๐
That's a question for MOOD to answer on the Kickstarter page. Ask there
Oh! Nice. It's usually not that way round. Good to see they're working so closely with you.
my moder fight almost got ruined by a stone golem ๐
not the entire team tho. but we have 2 pro developers here with experience so we just sent our best for the job ๐
So does the ashlands have bosses?
Nice. I do a bit of voluntary stuff in play testing, development, and co-design on the board game side of things. Not had the chance to work with an IP yet. But so many IP-based board games are licensed by the publisher level and often the dev teams don't speak to each other. So you get something 'based on' the IP but not really reflective of the gameplay.
Like every biome it has a boss, yes. There's also a miniboss.
yeah.. but we own our own game pretty much completly. and want to have a say in all things our logo and name ends up on ๐
The way it should be!
just read somewhere... here? Reddit? About someone mining out underneath the Elder shrine and using it as a portal hub location. That sounds brilliant to me, and I guess i know what I'm doing after work lol
single portal? perfectly fine location. portal hub? ehh.. I guess if you like small cramped underground spaces
guys when wood gets weatherd can you repair it or do you need to rebuild it ?
repair -- but neither costs you resources as you get 100% of materials back
alr ty
90% of my main bases are in my batcaves under elder -_-' I love that place too much.
also, it will never drop below 50% HP from weather
unless i guess i got set on fire in a firestorm in ashlands or something
dear god
im finally caught up
defeated queen after 3 pulls with the deaths being silly and then i joined my friend's world as we sail to the ashlands. we all died and so did our portal, and then we did a fuck it all or nothing charge with another drakkar and we won lol. after like 2 hours we got a foothold set up, and here we are
one step closer to trollstav, and none know it exists currently ๐
I'm a huge fan of the band Tool and they have similar policies about their stuff. I've never heard of someone giving up creative control and ending happy about it.
i think i just fell asleep as a raid was starting and it skipped the entire raid
lol
bye bye stirred cauldron
i didnt even think that could happen
i heard draugers outside as i fell asleep, woke up and no draugers
jumpscare
guys should i put portals inside my base or outside ?
Depends on if you like the sound of them being connected when you are close, how large your base is inside, and the look of them inside or not. I have 1 portal outside my base that ports me to my portal hub that takes me to all the places I wanted to leave a permanent portal. Less clutter at my base that way and I always build as small and efficiently as possible.
where would be a good place for a portal hub ?
they're teleporters -- you can place them anywhere and they'll do the exact same thing. Just whatever you think looks good aesthetically
i got a feeling you may hate my base
I think the large bases are cool I just don't spend the time to build them. I am too impatient to spend the time to gather all the mats to build large sprawling bases. I rarely even have floors. Level the ground and the dirt is good enough for my viking Bjorn Bald and his adventures.
is there a point of getting iron armour if you can just craft a pick and go get silver armour ?
ROOT ARMOR
it can be tricky to find silver, but it's certainly a strategy and quite doable
Yes unless you are really good at combat. Bronze armor or troll armor is going to be a little weak in the mountains vs wolves. If you are really good at combat and can avoid damage, you can just go naked but still I don't advise it. Iron armor lets you survive hits from higher next biome mobs.
anybody else having the game crash everytime you try and start a new world or is that just a me issue?
Personally I do the mountains with level 3 troll helm, legs and level 2 or 3 root chest. I do take an iron buckler and ancient spear. Buckler parry is just OP and lasts through plains easy enough.
parrying wolves seems dangerous
quite
so i can get silver armour before the swap boss ?
i just use a spear against wolves since it attacks so fast you stagger them before they get the jump on you
mine's relatively small but it is very messy and i suppose it depends on perspective whether it's efficient or not
u wont be able to locate silver
although there are some ways around that
use stagbreaker the big hammer
When you start a new world, don't alt tab out, and just let the game work. It takes a few minutes to create the thing the first time, and if you interrupt it it crash. Just wait it out.
The intended way is to fight Swamp boss first, to get the item that helps you find silver. That said it's possible to find silver without it, either by just being lucky to find a silver vein sticking out of the ground, or just dig your way through the entire mountain until you stumble across one (I've done that once), or ||use Stagbreaker to find it||
well crap. turns out the Elder i found is too close to water. so digging gets me to water. i'll need to find another location if I want to do this. And I /really/ don't want to aimlessly search the world
Ah yeah, that's like the worst thing that happens to me in an entire game, finding Elder altar in the water -_-' That's near enough to make me abandon a savegame!
i am unreasonably bummed. i don't want to look at my map seed either. ah well, i'll recover i guess
You can also practise making underground bases under big rocks. The copper veins in BF are usually the easiest. I do this a lot as well.
I guess I just want to play a dwarf or something >_<
lol
Going to be a lot of trial and failure though, as if you're unlucky you suddenly crack a piece of stone and make a hole in the roof... not much you can do about it. Eventually you start getting a somewhat "feel" for how likely it is to happen or not. But yeah still happens.
yeah, i don't think i'm going to go down that path haha
My first time into mountain, I hated swamp and refused to go there, so instead went into mountain. I ended up diggin trenchest across the whole thing and place fireplaces. But at the top I found a bunch of 4-5 or so big rocks lumped together at the top of a mountain top. So I dug my way under all of it, and built a pretty fun dwarf base under it. don't have any screen shots of that though.
Was difficult since the floor was tilted, so I had to make things with a lot of smaller plateaus in various shapes to make things fit.
you definitely have dwarf tendencies
Anyone wanna go into the planes nd split the loot?
hmm, now that I'm not building a base under the Elder, I don't know what to do. Hmm. I guess i really am bummed ๐
Build a treehouse base in swamp. Always interesting to figure out how to connect floors through all the trees, and how to make use of the seemingly random floor space you get.
i kinda want to build an automatic greydwarves farm. Maybe i'll go fish for a bunch of pufferfish for that. i have an automatic chicken farm i setup yesterday and it's hilarious
i giggle every time i hear a chicken pop.
it hasn't gotten old yet!
awo-bkaw!-ooooo
i can't even do anything good with chicken meat yet, but man it's nice to have infinite feathers
same
oh, i'm kinda tempted to try setting up a fish farm. though i know they don't work that well
in the frost cave? yeah, i found one in this seed also
nice yeah the frost cave
i found a 2 star troll then right after an abomination spawned
i probably need more blackmetal and iron... meh
oh, i guess i could upgrade from silver shield to black metal shield for not much black metal
I havent got to that point yet, but i've heard you dont actually need that much black metal compared to like, iron
but I guess thats obvious lol, iron is in just about everything it feels like
yeah, iron you need a lot because it's not just swamp tier, but later also
1k+ hours and not a single one have I found
my first time playing i got 2 haha. still my first time world
reallly huge starting island with elder there. i was getting lucky till swamp shenanigans (turns out there was wayy more swamps in south than north. rip) and then was fun and games till moder was near wher queen spawns in, while being surrounded in mostly mistlands ๐ญ
lots of luck and then a price to pay for luck
hi guys i love this game
whats a good insult to use for someone that doesn't remove stumps
/ban playername
dang, atgeir needs 120 black metal.
not that hard to obtain, just clear few fuling camps
yeah, it's not that bad. atgeir + what i need for crafting later is only 140
i'm sitting on 60 already to be transported to smelt, and i have 28 remaining from my first smelting batch
270 something hours and i found 2 lol
stupid shamans keep destroying my crops
does abyone have any tips foe yagluth im thinking about quitting no matter what i do i literally cant beat him
shaman's jealous smh
what level armor n stuff do you got
cuz i can tell you what i did
ive just got all the balck metal and plains stuff like padded armor but they are level 1, is upgrades necessary?
try using frostner on yaggy, drink fire resist meads and have heal + stam meads. dodge the initial hit of the aoe self fire slam he does, and run around when meteors spawn in. keep goin' crazy till ur on low hp and then wait to heal to trade more hits. carry extra meads incase fight is a while, and ig upgrade gear if u got. eat 2 health foods and 1 stam food
that's what i did to live. i suppose eikthyr forsaken power can work
uh yeah i upgraded to max but that was a little overprepare
alr alr
ty
i would atleast go to like upgrade 2 ,and i used bonesmass, and had fire res
g'luck bro, tho i would stick around to hear what mega has to say as well ๐
eh my advice sucks
i type a little bit too slow ๐ข
ok
most people never take it ๐ฅฒ
thanks
your welcome
how do you get the feather cape cuz i have no idea
i like just defeated yagluth a month ago or smth and now im getting into the mistlands
you need magic table from mistlands
oh
this may sound crazy, but i think feathers may be a part of it ๐
but u need i think it's called galdr table
what i thought you needed blackmetal and water :OOO ๐ฒ
would make quite dark soup
lol
aw man, i realized i need to get me some mistlands tier'd sutling cores ๐ข
need mah shield generator
Huh? No, you need black cores, not surtling cores.

i believe thats what they mean ๐ thats why "mistlands tier" tho might be better to say just cores
But they're completely different things, they just have the word core in common.

i said it that way to avoid spoiling cuz i wasn't sure if mega wanted that.
surtling cores are found in a "dungeon" and so are black cores, so called it mistland tiered surtling core
i just found a 2 star fuling:D
uh oh lol
yeah i died cuz i wanted screen shots:')
send me that ss ๐
it must of been glorious
lol they were horrible cuz i was in a panic lol
a void command to trigger a screen shot is a great idea now that i think about it
i'm absolutely going to set that up now for ingame stuff
7 frost caves later, no cultist trophy (:
don't rub it in. (I got a trophy from my first cultist kill ever.)
dont rub it in (so did i)
๐
๐
rng is a fickle mistress
always gotta pray to rngesus
oh man, upgraded to black metal shield, and the knockback is farther than silver, and i can't do my usual block squito and hit it. now i block and it's out of range to smack it lol
even better lolol
dag nabbit

now time for tower shield xdd
no tower shields
but the funny knockback ๐ข
i do want to try an all heavy armor + tower shield thing at some point, but not now ๐
i need fenris armor
i haven't done tower shield, least fav shield, though i have done heavy armor up to the point of unlocking mage class
same i hate tower shields
i like buckler in practice, but reg shields in thematics and fashion i really enjoy
pretty nice being a brawler. i kinda miss those days lol.
krom is such a beast, and never felt much more like a stalwart defender with carapace shield, but the staffs (staves?) are so cool
i skipped the bronze armor
bronze armor <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< troll armor
i made the grave mistake of bronze armor and fully upgrading it
I did that with bronze armor my first play through. Didn't know any better. This one I knew better and minimized the bronze grind.
Eh, I've always worn bronze armour. Does me just fine. Everyone plays differently.
True that! I also full upgrade everything I make. Which is probably a waste
same. this is my first playthrough
i don't really regret it (for as much as i dramatized it) cuz i was on par to iron armor i think, and elder was a nice roll, though i forget how long bronze age was
sailing without wind ๐ค
moder still snoozes
It's fine. You're probably better prepared for swamps that way honestly. Especially for a first time.
yeah haha
it was fun and games till i learned draugr archers. then it was time to take cover
i killed her today, forgot to grab ):
๐จ
aww nooo that's so bad
Abominations are a pita in the beginning but pierce resist from the chest is amazing. So much help
drauger archers are dangerous, then you build root harnesk and they do nothing
My root chest is still amazing in the plains. And I see seekers have a lot of pierce damage too
i think 1 star drauger archers were hitting me for like 5 with lvl 1 harnesk
wow
maybe i did sleep on root harnesk. i liked the idea of matching armors and pretend there was an armor set of fashion points ๐
but didn't think the pierce resist was that strong lol
I mix and match armor with no shame
the surtling raid in theory: ๐ผ
I just take the chest off if I'm going to fight fuling shamans for instance.
Bare chested fighting. The Viking way.
But now I make fire resist potions so it's not really an issue
๐ฅ
i just got hunted while in the plains ):
Hey y'all, we just got to the Plains and I want to build my house in the plains, I'm on a server with a handful of friends and I decided rather than build a big barracks we all share we should all build our own houses wherever and I decided I want mine in the plains. Thing is... I'm not sure what to build... I'm not GREAT at building but I'm okay-ish at it... Any ideas/inpsiration y'all can share?
also, big oof
Plains and mountains only
Find one of those massive stone. pillars and build up on that?
It's an idea but not one I'm a fan of.
I actually have a spot, a fuling camp we cleared out, I'm just.... Kinda in the thought process of what do I want to make and how to make it.
enjoy the music there ๐
I have music off... lol
ah, ive never had it happen in plains before
sometimes i do not understand the logic in this game
giant stone pillar floating in the air nothing holding onto it
wont collapse tho
what's ur favorite music?
magic โจ
From the game?
yeah
Crap, i can't choose one, all of them are great
atleast you can still use the helmet
think i like the music from fuling camps
something about it makes it sound so tribal, but yet there was once something more, considering how grand it sounds
high and mighty people that have succumbed to such a fate, but yet they are also twisted. gives me feels of dread, reminiscence, and survival
cauldron is stirring as i go to my mistlands farm. all i got rn is prot staff and ember staff
screw these guys im gonna farm in peace and worry about them later lol
If you're away long enough you might be lucky enough to trigger another event.
anyone know why my map says im in a plains biome but im in the middle of the ocean lol
Because you're actually in a Plains biome. It's just under the water.
Is that a real bug lol?
A bug? No, it's not a bug.
Why would it be a bug? You know the real ocean has land at the bottom, right?
nah
Well, it does. And it's the same in Valheim. It only becomes true Ocean biome when it's deeper than 25m.
same lol
ayyy
i really want fenris armor now lol
earlier I almost died because I ran out of stamina, a growth was attacking me a lox was attacking me and I had a berserker and 1 star fuling chasing me lol, and I couldn't run away fast enough luckily I didn't die
i don't mind the slowness of heavy armor
throw me in the pit i'll brawl with them all haha
lol
i think you may be farther ahead in game too
still haven't beaten the queen
i was just trying to get some flax and i got ambushed ๐ญ
It needs a surface to grow against.
Yes I grow mine in a vineyard style arrangement, there is good guides out there if you want to google it
Well of that's true can plant it outside ashland?
yes
Like a wall?
Thatd work.
Oh great
see #screenshots how i built it at the start
With a builder's magic
This could look better
That was the start of it, looks much different now
was trying to figure out how to best grow them, spacing and all that
Im running out of blackcore for Shield generator
gotta get back to Mistlands
but yeah my vineyard is in Plains
That's the true Viking way
Iโm a few hours into my first playthrough. This game has me pumped for whatโs to come
you are gonna have a nightmare but also the time of your life
My fence got damaged by a tree I fell and then I lost a lot of boar I spent like 45 mins collecting soooo I hear you lol
i was fighting a mini boss and i died because of a huge lag spike then i explored the entire cave like 3 times and realized my body disappeared
That is very sad. I have noticed some lag spikes but hopefully that never happens to me lol
I better move my plantation to my plains base
yeah sometimes you'll get extremely lucky and other times you'll just get the worst luck
like a couple weeks ago i found a 2 star troll and it fought this abomination that was lucky
but for example i was fighting a gjall and then i accidently hit a dverger and then i got attacked and died
Eye spied a troll but am too noob to approach
Skeletons still scare me. So idk what most of that means lol
oh well in the biome after the plains there is a giant flying creature that shoots fire and shoots ticks at you that suck your blood
and a dverger is a friendly guy unless you hit them or break their stuff and if you hit them unprepared you are dead
and im pretty sure they remember you too so that just makes it worse
Also how do I harvest meat and leather from tamed boars?
you need to make a butchers knife
it lets you kill them and does something else i forgot tbh
Oo I havenโt unlocked that yet
im more focused on loxes now lol
gl with the dragon boss in the mountains it was literally harder than the plains boss
how unlucky would i be if i chopped down about 8 oak trees and didn't get a single acorn?
mm unlucky
i was able to defeat the ashlands boss twice, one for my base, the other for the statue
oh thats how you get the trophies for decor
also is the ashlands boss status better then the bonemass or does bonemass still rule as the best boss buff
i was wondering why i woke up to eikthyr threatening me ๐ค
then spawn him again and beat him again
bruh i gotta deal with moder again
do you have to gather the same mats to summon them or can you just summon them
have to gather the same mats
NOOOO
3 dragon eggs for moder comin right up
moder is torturing me again
10 oak trees and no acorns ๐ข
So is like xbox valheim dead or
why would it be dead
I have found not one single person to play with
Shits my favorite game but like nobody is on it
what xbox
Wym
#1024264966712340510 there is often a lot of servers with crossplay enabled
like is it only series x or whatever or can i play it on xbox one
Doesn't matter i dont think
lets goooooooooo
Im done
nice to meet you
how long will it take me to beat the game
do not utter those words ever again
accurate
300 hours atleast
yo fr?
average viking yeah
i thought this game was liek 20 hours long
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
getting bronze fricking sucks
you can skip it like i did i got troll armor instead
troll armours better?
mm i think so
so i jsut need the weapons then right?
thats what i did you dont have to play how you want
i have the troll tunic so im almost there
Enjoy first playthru, don't rush, enjoy it for it's beauty
killing troll more fun than getting bronze honestly
tbh man dont even worry about beating the game
getting bronze is a pain in the booty
real you got a long way to go
most people dontjust focus on whoever the next boss is
nah teh game is fun i jsut wana know how much more i should be expecting
cuz some games i played are fun then they end way too quickly
alot ALOT more
oh guaranteed this one isnt going any where
like i just killed yagluth when ashlands started
so once you get to yagluth there will prob be atleast a new biome
xbox sayign the main game takes 77 hours
dog im a gamer iykwim and i didnt complete plains until hr 300
i like enjoying the game playing it for hours especially a game like valheim
guys am i able to share the world file
just depends on how min-max you go i guess. it can be rushed
yeah i only got to mistlands at hour 279
guys is my friend able to give his world to me
if you do that you are not a true viking
he barely hops on we wont be getting anywhere he plays like 15 mintues then quits
i appreciate
it saves here evidently
C:\User"Your User Name"\Appdata\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds_local
thank you so much
gl viking
yeah you have many foes to come across
Uhโฆ funny situation. I thought it privy to build a portal faced right up against a fortress wall. I thought Iโd either portal in and be launched to the top of the wall or on the other side of it. But nope, now Iโm stuck inside the fking wall with no way to get out because the walls are impenetrable by everything except catapult and ram. Anyone wanna log into my world and bust me outta here lol!
i would but if i go to the ashlands i am dead in maybe 5 seconds
So I built a portal right next to the trap portal. There arenโt any enemies around and thereโs an Dvger base right next to the fortress that you can run to if things get hot and heavy.
I suppose I could just create a new character and build a catapult with it to destroy that part of the wall. lol this is so hilarious.
gusy hwere can i send picture of my house
guys how to send ss
you cant in this channel
Just pick up the material in my home base, itโll unlock the recipe
alr
which chanel can we ?
screenshots fan art
some others idrk tbh
yo i dont normally save people from the ashlands so how should i join your server
Iโll send you a DM
k
I hate mistlands
same
I have finally started to love it now, the trick is finding some nice mistfree area for a base and making whisplight paths including platforms and stairs etc for sap collection
i am nowhere near that lol
Hi, im new to the channel. Are there groups looking for players to start in standard mode?
Thanks!
you're welcome ๐ I love the game both solo and on a server with friends
any new worlds lookin for a new char?
Hey everyone. Im a bit lost. Do i play on a new solo server or do i join a server where ppl have esentialy defeated bosses already? Any hints like whats the downside of anyof those
Itโs best to start in a new world, when bosses are defeated stronger enemies can spawn in early biomes
Okay cool. Are there any mods or something like that ? Last time i quit in swamp cuz i hate building and didnt wanna spend time mooving wood all around ๐ Like a mod where i can spawn wood at my feet lol
is there a most efficient axe to use for cutting trees, given the better axes use more stamina? or does it turn out using the best one is always best
mostly the best is always best, including the mistlands one (it depends on chop damage which is not displayed when you look at the stats) usually a maxed axe from previous biome is extremely close to a level 1 axe from the new biome, the new one is often 1 chop damage higher (also don't ever make stone axe go flint straight away)
There are world modifiers now. You could disable build cost with these.
So i'm having a problem where my dirt wall is too close to the edge of the stone foundation i can't snap the stone wall to the outer edge of the foundation
omg
it was turning night and i went to use the bathroom, came back to me resting in bed with my gravestone right on top of me (idled in bed)
turns out 2 seekers rolled up my area, broke a wall down and then say johnny's here (small door but i left it open LOL) and it killed me.
bathroom breaks kill ๐
interesting. there is a strange smell of sulfur in the air now ๐ค
Should have opened your bathroom window after the deed...
that's a good roast there
๐ But yeah, to go safely afk you can hit escape in a solo world, that'll pause it. Or go sit in an emptied dungeon, like a troll cave or so. Can put a portal next to the entrance.
awh!
i just realized. one of the seekers knocked the raft off from my roof. it's hard placing one let alone two!
you can use haldor also if you found him, pressing escap stop the time
exactly what Beza said
I am a native speaker and my english teacher absolutely adored me. It IS a lie.
i mean like its better to use a cave or haldor instead of pausing the game
Depends. I don't see why pausing the game while afk is a problem, unless you are waiting for the next day/night to come around.
its not a problem if you dont wait for crop to grow or ore to smelt
so when an enemy gets staggered they take additional damage. does that apple to fire as well? i notice with frost staff it feels like u do more damage, but im not sure if fire dot gets the increased bonus for the duration of the stagger, if it was applied, or if not affected at all
guys is it worth to spawn hildir and haldor close to one another ?
alright, so i made the mistwalker and i still have to hit those insect mfers 6 times to kill them. How come they have so much health, are so fast and do so much damage while still running in packs???
valheim brainrot
it's a brutal world out there
well the game isn't hard, it's just spamming enemies with a dumb amount of health at you
Not really.
Jesus Christ is God ๐ฏ
the packs are usually no bigger than 2, most ive ever seen is 3
although if you run around while fighting one you're bound to run into more
what does your gear look like
or your skills
i went to one of those chamber things and there were literally 5 right outside, pretty damn annoying when youo die inside, also pretty damn annoying when you literally have to go inside to progress. How am i supposed to kill 5 seekers when one takes 5 hits to kill??
oh yeah well that's another story
the mistlands atgeir is very powerful at crowd control
atleast i've found it pretty useful
what kinda armor do you have
the chitin armor, still die within 3 hits with 160 health or so
do you mean carapace?
yeah
what level do you have it on
the seekers are pretty damn powerful even at full carapace
1
upgrade it
why cant i destroy my carve ?
i have to kill them to upgrade it, there are a lot of them in those chambers and there's plenty of opportunities to cheese them, but apparently the chambers are guarded by an ungodly amount of them aswell
Stand next to the mast, use axe secondary attack
make the mistlands atgeir
trust me
i have the lightning staff, it has the same attack as the atgeir, right?
himmin alf?
yeah
yeah thats the one
ive found it really good
or the mistwalker's thrust attack on a staggered seeker
what does it mean that the "mistwalkers glow seems to slice through the mist"? i haven't really noticed any difference in visibility?
there is no difference aha
how do you use the atgeir? you let them attack, dodge attack, rinse and repeat?
basically yes
the spin attack is very good against multiple enemies
- dodge 2. spin attack 3. regular attack
๐
multiple enemies might pose more challenge but its all about being patient
brother, this game design is kinda annoying; why do they conflate difficulty with damage sponges??? I literally have to hist this seeker soldier 60 times or something just to kill it, i mean, come on, it's just boring and annoying
They don't?
they literally do? i can't run away from this thing, so i have to kill it, but to kill it i have to hit it 60 times. Besides that, the bosses are the same; they're incredibly easy, but takes ages to kill...
that isn't a good thing... it isn't fun spending 10+ minutes on a single bossfight that's so easy you're literally dying of boredom
you can only reach that point when they do their AE attack
still takes 60 hits
Nothing in Mistlands should be taking you that many hits.
it's a one starred seeker soldier, it has an ungodly amount of health
Just Spirit.
then why do i not damage the thing 125 as my atgeir is supposed to damage??
Seekers have a .5 resistance to physical damage
Unless, like Rianu says, you go for the weak spot.
brother, you can't just hit it in its weak spot, you can only do that when they do their AE
If you are able, aim for the bright pink or orange fleshy portion of the seaker/gjall. That is it's weak point. Also, each enemy has weaknesses and resistances.
Try using a elemental based weapon if you have them available.
You keep saying that, it still won't make it true.
Have you tried pressing the jump button?
I have heard frostneir is very useful.
Frostner does more damage than black metal against seekers, but I prefer not to use it because it has very low stagger
i litearlly just fought it, i can tell you that it's borderline impossible to hit it in the back while not doing its AE
Whatโs your jump skill?
38
Make a feather cape as soon as possible, thatโs far too low
You can play atgeir far more aggressively though. For me what works is go straight for spin, then kill when it's staggered
works for basically every enemy that gets staggered from 1 hit
On hard? More hp to stagger against.
Should still work for most enemies. on normal even highest HP enemies get staggered in 1 hit, with exception that one god damn tank roach in mistlands
i can't do that, you have to go through the thousands of seekers and seeker soldiers to even get the recipe. How am i supposed to be good in a biome that's so bs? You can't see, you can't run, you can't fight because there are so many and they have so much health - even with the mistwalker sword it takes 6-7 hits to kill a single seeker...
I had pretty easy time in mistlands with Atgeir, only struggled taking on those dverger towers
staggering is OP
for soldiers tho... not too easy kill
how are you fighting on mountainous terrain against 2-5 different enemies at once, that each require 4-6 hits?
If you fought and beat Yag, the plains boss, you should have the recipe for the wisp light and "torches". Those help a lot for visibility compared to not having them.
well timed spins. hit multiple of them and pick one at the time
Mistlands enemies are very short so you can easily jump right over them to get into a better position, or kill them safely from behind
you have to secure an area before you can place those things
and try to find better spots for attacking them, move away from the hill and find something slightly flatter
Use the torches to secure an area, enemies wont target them
you're not hitting all of them on a steep hill, which is apparently everywhere
Not the equitable one, but yes the torches you do.
there's everywhere at least some good spots for hitting them...
either top or bottom of the hill for starters
not really, you can't really see where the good spots are because of the mist, and you can't really run away because you'll lose all your stamina
don't need to see to know... just follow the hill up or down
it's not going to up or down to infinity
If thatโs the case just jump over them and go the other way
i can't jump over multiple seekers at once, it's not a thing you just do and it's not a thing you know how to do without experience. Sure there are ways to counter them and be good, but you have to learn these things, and it really isn't a good environment to learn. You have to die in this game, but dying is trash, especially in the mistlands and plains
honestly hard to say anything to that when I could very easily get around them with multiple different options... even running straight at them and then dodging past them is fine option.
but I think you're right, not much that can be done except trying to get that experience and improve
you don't have infinite stamina, i don't get you. If you're running around trying to explore, run into 3 seekers and then try to run away, you're losing your stamina and you can't really see where you're going. It's pretty easy to backseat game and say "just do that", but in reality it isn't that simple, you're in a difficult terrain with limited vision and almost never any stamina because of the terrain
don't need infinite stamina, just good stamina management
there is no need to run constantly
i'm not walking over a mountain, i have to sprint, and i'm not walking through the mistlands, it's boring and a waste of time; you don't even have nice scenery to look at because of the damn mist
don't have to walk either, you can sprint, walk, sprint, walk... but keep your stamina at least above 50% in danger zone
i just tested your "jump over it" theory thing, i landed on its back and by the time i was behind it it had turned around
everywhere is a dangerzone...
Were you sprinting?
yes
Itโs because your jump skill is half of what it should be
Itโs always my highest skill
same here. For me jump and run both are in 70-80 usually, and main weapon skill around 60
alright... pretty hard getting your skills up when you constantly die to terrain and visibility problems. It's pretty damn hard getting your stuff back in this game, especially in these later biomes, it's really draining the fun out of the game
World modifiers are changeable at any time, you could lower the death penalty if you want to
or maybe the standard should be that you don't have to spend an hour getting your stuff back AND losing XP
isnt there cars in this game?
Carts? You make them with bronze nails
NO
imo, personally think that it would be good for skills to have milestones that prevent the skill to drop below that point, like 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90
that's a nice idea
But then players could die as many times as they want with no punishment
if already died and lost multiple levels...
why is that a problem?
Thatโs what the no skill loss buff is for
the punishment in having to get your stuff back is punishment enough
If they couldnโt be lost, skills would be better off not existing. Players would grind them to 100 at the start of the game and then be overpowered for the rest of it because they canโt lose them.
which doesn't do jack shit really beyond being reasonable. it only works for recovering your gear
who would do that? that's so boring
90 is close enough, the player is still incredibly strong there
guys am i able to climb that giant tree in tht sky
No. It doesnโt connect to the world and has no collision
this game sucks
doesn't make it any less painful to lose your levels from 95 to 90. it's a lot damn work
When you die you lose 5% of your skills
Yes
is that permanent
No, you can regain those skills by chopping more trees
no but like
is you get your loot bac do you get the 5% skills with it?
cuz if not that sounds really damn annoying
also milestones would make it possible to learn multiple weapon skills without them becoming absolutely garbage by dying occasionally. The devs encourage using multiple weapons by effing specific weapon users over by not including every weapon type in new updates, but then make it unreasonable to maintain multiple weapon skills...
is effing a word
nah, just don't remember if swear words are filtered here or not ๐
or is it like f-ing
Yes, thatโs what it means
that's just another punishment rather than reward...
is the 5% skill drain to all your skills?
Yes
punishment after punishment for not following their idea of how you should play
that sucks
+2
have peopel been complaing about this alot?
their solution to it is just edit your game options... but unfortunately to good way to entirely remove skill drain without mods
what a goofy solution
When adding the armour stand to our bases, my wife has taken to placing them facing outwards at a window. It's super creepy and I'm struggling with it. ๐
if the people who play your game think a mechanic is trash, you should remove it
that is creepy ๐
sounds like a haunted house
It's very 'Blair Witch'
seekers attack speed should be lower
did they say that?
I think it's fine to keep it as an option for higher difficulties, but the main problem is that reducing skill drain to minimum also makes it so you don't lose your gear at all when you die... that is just stupid. They should be separetely
i have no idea what you're talking about, sorry
the skill drain, and dropping of gear on death
Like, repeat attacks? Or the time from telegraphing to hit?
gear dropping is aids
but at least it's manageable, and I would say sufficient punishment for dying... don't think it's necessary to add skill drain on top of that. Worst case you end up spendin an hour or 2 recovering your gear
seeker attacks, i block, i hit, seeker hits me aswell. If the combat has to be so bare bones, atleast make it so i can punish the enemy
you mean block, like not an parry?
it really fucking isn't, try running in the mistlands for hours just to get your stuff back, or god forbid, something destroys your portal
yeah
Ahh, yes. I remember being there. I suggest that, until you can stagger with a block parry, you use dodge to avoid hits.
I know it's not easy, but learning to parry will make you far more powerful
parrying usually staggers the enemy and gives you time to hit them back without any risk
and they take more damage when staggered
i haven't really had the option to learn that yet, i've always been ganged
Go practice blocking/parrying on greydwarves and skeletons.
i know how to parry those, i haven't learned the attacks of the seekers yet
It'll do your skill level good too
also dodge timing is basically the same as parrying. when you learn to do one of them, you can do the other as well
why is it that mistlands is filled with bugs and aliens? I don't really get the norse mythology vibe from this region at all, except the dvergr
who knows, maybe it's just an infestation that is not native to the area?
that still doesn't give norse mythology vibes
they still haven't done dark elves / elves, only dvergr
Eh, the game is BASED on Norse mythology but is very much its own thing.
but do have to agree that those buggers do feel a bit out of place compared to other enemies
but personally don't take issue with it
it's weird and doesn't really fit in, makes the game feel confused
I like them. Makes a change from more skeletons.
again, jรถtunn and elves, or just spiders i mean
that's kinda still norse mythology-ish
Spiders were vetoed for several reasons.
don't gib them ideas... imagine if they add a cursed version of "spiderman" to the game ๐
so make jรถtunns or elves
is it the arachnephobia people again?
Why? Why must it have something you've heard of rather than something unique?
it doesn't, but it should be norse mythology themed
Partly. Partly in Smiffe's words 'spiders are boring'.
Again, why?
if everything else is norse mythology themed except ONE BIOME, it makes the game feel confused
I guess spiders have been done quite many times in games, but kinda for a good reason... don't need no phobia to be creeped out by them
Everything else isn't so it's all good.
it literally is
Yeah, this is going nowhere.
Rightโฆ those famous Norse Lizard-Ox and goblinsโฆ
imo, bunker spider in lethal company is one of my favorite enemies, right after the yippees
lizard-ox? But it's still beliveably norse mythology-ish. Large oxes, small green goblins, it could believably be in norse mythology, but flying aliens and giant insects, not really
Youโre drawing an entirely arbitrary line in the sand.
I'd love to know what these aliens are.
Black forest gotta be the most norse like biome I think. I can even smell the norse mythology... god damn troll farts!
I assume gjall
literally the flying things in the mistlands
i don't think so, but i do agree that it's subjectiv what is thought of as "reasonably norse mythology themed"
Why are they 'aliens'? They live in Mistlands like everything else.
If anything we're the aliens.
they look like something straight out of alien invasion
wait til you see the boss only then will you realise mistlands is a zerg colony ๐คฃ
great biome guys ๐
yeah, plains is boring aswell
Not as well, just that one.
i like the aesthetic of the mountain biome, but combat is trash, and there are too many enemies constantly attacking you
yeah
i liked the caves
Have you tried playing in passive mode?
idk what that menas
With no enemies. As that seems to be your biggest gripe with the game.
yeah, the combat is garbage
The combat is absolutely fine (except for the verticality issue, and that's easily resolved).
how is it a controversial opinion to say that the combat is trash? it's so bare bones
Wait, is it trash or simplistic? Those are two different things.
not necessarily
Personally, I like the combat - flows better and is more intuitive than most games I've played. Blocking, parrying, dodging, sweeping, all the stuff I've found has been intuitive for me to learn.
is the megingjord worth buying ?
Definitely.
yeah, but most of the enemies have 1 attack, that's that
What? I'm trying to think of one that's true for.
gerydwarves, skeletons, draugr, flying death man, blobs, fulings, deathsquitos, wolves the list goes on
iirc the Greydwarves got two types of attacks. UNless you think that throwing a rock and trying to hit you with their hands are the same thing?
So 10% of all mobs have 1 or 2 attacks, most of those having multiple variants which themselves have different attacks. Got it. Shocking.
that's true, i forgot the rock throwing, maybe because it's so irrelevant for combat
the only ones that actually have multible attacks are the stuff in the mistlands, the lox, the giant fulling, the greydwarf brute i think?, but that's kinda it
Just like the swarming tactics most monsters do are forgotten.
Facing one of those you listed is easy. Face them as a mob and you got quite some problems. There's a reason why the "you are hunted" event is one of the most disliked events of Valheim - after the bats event, that is. And that's because the wolves swarm you and when they are able to stun-lock you, you're a goner. No matter what.
getting stun-locked isn't fun, and fighting 3 fullings isn't fun either
It's exciting. The fire ones are a pain in the ass but you can generally kite them into a more favourable position and then just take them out one at a time.
Wolves is a good event, bats is just annoying and nothing more
it's boring, the combat is boring in this game, really boring
There are definitely plenty of complaints you can level at the combat mechanics in the game, but boring just isn't one of them.
i definitely can
You just did.
For each biome I've visited so far, the combat at first is very dangerous, then becomes manageable and pretty cool, then becomes easy after I've geared up or learned additional tactics. I think that if combat in a biome has become routine to a player, it might be time to move on to the next biome, or finish gearing up for that.
Oh boy.
alright
If you die all the time, it's not because the combat is wrong, but because you're making the same mistakes over and over again. A lot of monsters - Greylings, Greydwarves, Fullings come immediately to mind - actually signal their attack before they even attack you. The sound they make prior to their attack is that signal. Several bosses do the same thing.
As I said before, lots of monsters try to swarm you. So the trick is not to jump into the fray and hope your healthbar still have 2HP left by the time you've killed all monsters, but instead to retreat to position that's more favorable for you, so you can take on 2-3 monsters instead of 6-9.
Same with Draugr. Especially in the sunken crypts they're easy to deal with, as you don't have to mine all the muddy scrap piles to attack them. Leaving a bit at the ground, thus "blocking" the Draugr from getting to you and taking them out with a bow or a 2 handed weapon like Stagbreaker does miracles.
Running head on to a pack of monsters in your heavy gear and yelling "Geromino" isn't the right way to deal with the opposition in this game.
Using your brains, trying to take them on one by one or in small numbers and always use your biggest advantage being the ability to change attacks and weapons is the way to do it.
Fail at that and things may indeed become boring when dying over and over again. But that's not the game's fault, but that of the player.
And yes, I - as well as many others - have been there too.
i respect your enthusiasm, but you should try to present your opinions in a shorter format, it's kinda annoying having to read that much when you could just write the takeaways. Having to shoot draugrs behind a wall feels cheesy, and it's boring. Having to fight multiple enemes by getting them stuck on stuff, or something like that, is also boring. I die because i'm too underpowered for the region and don't know the enemies yet, and then when i die i end up in a spiral of always dying because i either can't see anything, or instantly get killed by some deathsquito or the like
Perhaps you should refund this game instead and find something that isn't boring.
They've got to Mistlands, I doubt they're in time for that.
Oh and while you do. Keep in mind that horses are pretty high. So beware when dismounting them.
the idea is good, many other aspects of the game are good, but the combat is boring and dying is waaaay too hardcore
is that an insult or something? aha
oh, i get it
Have you tried world modifiers?
why should i have to modify the game for it to actually be good? the standard should be good
It's already good. You just seem to be not enjoying it and changing world modifiers might resolve that.
why is it good?
You want me to tell you how many ways the game is good?
i mean, i'm fighting a seeker soldier that i have to hit some 30 times for it to die, and then out of nothing comes 2 seekers, how is this fun?
i don't get any damn time to do anything without being interrupted by cancerous enemies. I can't kill a damn seeker soldier without wasting at least 5 minutes of my life on killing it
How on Earth is one mob taking you 5 minutes?
you tell me brother
I'm at a loss.
Well, if you don't attack a Seeker Soldier's butt, it will take quite a while.......
But why would you do that?
But of course, attacking something at it's weakest spot would be boring. So it's much better not to do that. ๐
i can't attack it's damn butt, i can't jump over it, and the only way i can otherwise is when it's doing its AE, and guess what, i did attack its ass when it did its AE
still took me 3 minutes to get it at half hp, and then got attacked by 2 seekers
Maybe itโs your gear?
i was using a level 1 himminafl
So 60 something attack if you don't use the weak spot.
i'll find a soldier and tell you how much i'm damaging it
34,8 damage when attacking it in the head
i have to hit it 44 times to kill it
One of my more fun battles was when I was still in Iron, looking to get to Bonemass in a Swamp bordering Plains. Had never encountered Fulings before (I'm a fairly new player), heard their laugh, and using some jousting and running/charging/parrying, managed to down one, only to have a Deathsquito join in immediately after, and again using parry/riposte took it out, then high-tailing it out of there to a nearby Black Forest before any other Plains critters showed up.
Iโve not used that so canโt say how appropriate it is (I like to play ranged).
But, the game is built around punctuated increases in difficulty as you enter each new biome.
this is one of the best weapons i can get, it just isn't upgraded, but still, how in the world is that in the damn game. Seriously? 34 fkn damage to a thin with 1500 hp, fkn ridiculous
you just can't tell me that's fun
Your definition of fun is not universal. And neither is mine. Nor anyone elseโs.
nobody thinks repetition is fun; fighting one enemy with 2 different attacks for 5 minutes isn't fun, it's repetitive and boring
Plenty of people here find the game fun.
you can find the overall game fun without thinking every single thing in the game is fun
And people can find things fun that you donโt.
have you been arguing that the game is too hard here for 2 days now? what's your goal here?
definitely, but i simply can't think that anyone would find that fun
hopefully change, but also venting
the devs have a vision that you're 99.9999% unlikely to change. If you just want to vent, i hear you.
if people request change they'll probably have to change it
And therein lies the problem
Himminafl Pierce: 85/85 Lightning: 40/58
Seeker soldier: Resistant to: Blunt, PIERCE, slash
Which explains why you barely do damage.
the sword is the same
Because resistance to slash, maybe?
yeah, but i don't get what weapon to use then
However:
Weak Point:
Abdomen
Weak to: Blunt, Pierce, Slash, Fire, Frost, Lightning
So as I said before, you need to hit it at the right spot.
Meaning, if a polearm or a sword doesn't work, pick a bow.
so cheesing the game by standing on a large rock where it can't hit me
it's just bad game design
A good soldier is not the bastard that dies for his country.
A good soldier uses the terrain to survive so he can make the other bastard die for his country.
If you aren't willing to adapt to the game, the game design isn't wrong. As there are options to defeat each and every monster.
lol, having varying enemies that demand varying skills and allow for varying approaches is โbad game designโ?!
the game design requires me to use a bow to kill enemies that are everywhere, that's not fun, that's just forcing me into a specific playstyle, even while they parade a bunch of different weapons that are apparently useless
(Note that not every approach will be equal against every enemy)
No, you could use any weapon you want.
but it should still be viable
It is
it very much isn't when i have to hit it 44 times
you could also just use your fists, might take you a few hours, but it's still viable, right, right???
If you hit it at its head, yeah. If you need only 20 hits at its abdomen, that means there is another option too.
i do every time i get the chance
Sure is - your choice which path to take
Considering we got fist weapons.... Why not?
viable: "capable of working successfully; feasible."
Heck, you can even lure it to a tower with Dverger and let them help you kill the thing. They may die in the process, but it gets the job done.
it isn't succesful nor feasible
it takes you 5 minutes and you die if you get hit like 3 times
So bottom line:
All those players that have killed seeker soldiers within a few minutes have either been cheesing it or have been doing it wrong, as combat is "boring".
In a case like that, I think I'd choose the bow/terrain option most times. Not cheese, but tactics and knowing the battle. Sounds like great game design to me.
I guess that means I've been doing boring combat too. Because up to now, the only monsters that haven't killed me are a Serpent, a Bonemaw, the Charred Marksmen, the Charred Twitchers and the Bosses Eikthyr and Fader. And the latter only because I haven't been fighting him yet.
no, the bottom line is that the weapons of a biome should be useful when dealing with the creatures in that biome
they just aren't when you have to hit a common enemy 44 times to kill it
everything over 15 is a disgrace
Well, I wish you good luck fighting the queen.
I'm pretty sure you will need her a lot more as 44 times before she's dead.
the boss isn't a common enemy bro
But I s'pose that's bad game design as well.
haha. i need to use worse arrows. suddenly my sniping fulings to pull them towards me are just killing them. i want them to get to me darn it.
I like that seeker soldiers are tanks that take a lot to kill though, makes me fear them
Uhm, are monsters larger on higher difficulty settings?
Yes
I dunno which tier bow and arrows you're using, but if you want it like that, try a lower tier bow with wooden arrows.
ohhhhh, that explains a lot xd
Faster too
i don't like that i can't kill or escape the enemies that are attacking me
yeah, i just made wooden arrows. i'm sticking to the huntsman bow, because of the low noise. just thought it was funny to see the damage increase suddenly
faster? oh, I thought only more dmg and health
will they also attack more often?
Physically larger?
Seeker soldiers you can just start climbing the spires and peaks of mistlands and they canโt follow you
But that's cheesing! ๐
that is if you have enough stamina, which you probably don't considering you'll have to run to get away from it
according to that defnition i cheese 99% of the game ๐
๐คทโโ๏ธ
According to that definition, each army cheeses 99% of their battles.
brother, cheesing is standing on a rock or some other place the enemy can't get to you, and then just shooting it
it won't even run, it just stands there getting killed
And what do you think BonnyJohnny just said he would be doing?
Tell Obi Wan that!
xD
anakin could at least attack or go away, the enemy is programmed to just stand there and take it
i'm cheesing the wolves that are hunting me right now! Standing ona boulder and hammering them from safety lol
run away from them
Itโs over soldierkin, I have the high ground!
you can't say that you aren't taking advantage of the bad AI to kill them
people say its cheesing when your sitting on a rock using terrain to your advantage but i would pretty much do the same exact thing had it been real life be outside the reach of a giant bug capable of slicing me in two
but the bug wouldn't stand there and let you kill it
Has there been any word on the development on deep north or 1.0? if they will give updates like ashlands for example, or be quiet like mistlands. I dont expect any timeframes to be given.
going with that thought, there wouldnt be a giant bug in either case
Is the too easy or too hard? Make your mind up.
listen, that's a bad faith argument. Any animal ever in the history of everything would run away when being harmed and not able to attack back
Unless it was a 1950-60's movie. But then, we're at the same level as this game, I think.
the timing was just funny, as this happened while the cheesy argument was going on
Given that Ashlands has only just come out (and has at least one more patch to come) and the team have been on vacation the last month I wouldn't expect much for a bit.
i've always said the game is piss easy, but it's just filled with trash game design and minor inconveniences that make you unable to play. If i really wanted not to die i could easily avoid it, but that's boring asf
Nothing in the game currently makes you unable to play.
why don't you play something else then? you're just trolling since you're in the discord with people who enjoy the game?
you're trolling because you won't criticize the game. I think i've come up with fair points, but you won't ever admit that the game has problems. In which world is it fun to only be able to kill a seeker soldier with a bow, on a rock, abusing the bad AI? you're not even doing anything impressive, you're shooting a thing that basically stands still and doesn't do anything
... you don't know what trolling means lol
whats the most efficient way to level up your bow skill in singleplayer and earlygame?
Find a greydwarf spawner and grab a couple stacks of wood arrows
Huh? There are dozens of things currently wrong with the game. Just that none of them are what you're complaining about.
i have fun playing the game right now. i don't need to care more than that. if i stop having fun playing the game, i'll play something else.
Okay
i'm not trying to do anything impressive, i'm just doing what i have fun doing ๐
Huh? Why would you need a hoe in Ashlands?
do you think it's fun shooting at an enemy that can neither catch you or kill you, just because you're standing on a large rock
My personal favorite is turning draugr villages into shooting ranges/weapon testing dummies
Some build a trainer in which you block a monster to get to you, but still are able to shot it. Greydwarf spawners or skeleton spawners work well.
You can use the same thing in the sunken crypts with the Draugr spawners by keeping a small part of the muddy scrap piles on the floor so the Draugr can't get to you, while you can hit them with a bow.
