Mistlands is viable in Fenris pretty easily if you are good at dodging/strafing attacks. No pierce resist hurts on the fenris set. Even with high health food you canโ€™t really take hits in fenris. Donโ€™t panic, use the terrain, ooze bombs and it is a great way to run around the place. Depends on play style really. You are not going to face tank in fenris but the movement speed makes kiting spear throwing a ton of fun.

That's one of the main goals, to prove that, in the end, skills are useful but far from being the most absolutely essential mechanic in the game that people keep thinking them to be

hot fern

In Valheim parrying has a MUCH bigger window than in Elden Ring, and it's very good for regular monsters -- they take critical (2x) damage when staggered, and a successful parry causes a stagger (not on bosses though). Carry a shield/buckler with the highest parry bonus/base armor you can get and you'll be able to parry almost everything at your level, if not everything depending on your upgrade level.

ocean hull
#

Hi. We played Valheim on and off since the beginning. We last played during Mistlands launch, and have started up again for Ashlands. Super excited for it. One thing we have noticed this time around is the real lack of sea serpeants. I've only seen the ones that spawn at night, and those are even super rare. We've progressed to killing Moder last night, but I've sailed a LOT. I've come across far more leviathans than ever (which are not super useful after a while). The ones I have found (usually by myself, so very difficult to try to get to shore so we can get the scales) are the ones that spawned at night (2 so far), and by the time I can get them to shore, with stam, it turns day, and they tend to get back to water and beeline to despawn.

#

Are we doing somethign wrong, or just unlucky so far with spawns? I've been able to kill one, because I got it to shore, and there were 10 graydwarfs around to kill it while I get harpooning it to keep it on the shore.

#

We've sailed for days straight trying to find them, and no luck when my friends are on the server.

fluid hull
shy marlin
ocean hull
#

Skills are not essential, but make things easier. Bows definitely need higher skill to be effective. Draw time is too long without it.

#

That is one of the few things we've modified with the new system (1% skill drop after death vs. 5%). This allows you to still die periodically without it feeling so punishing. Especially since skill level growth is so hard once you get above a certain level. If you ever die, then it is impossible to progress in skills at 5%.

ocean hull

Hi all, I need to share my tale of oops and sadness: Pre-Bonemass, not much iron gear. Decide to tame wolves to get meat and fur. Get a wolf into a pit and start the taming process at the foot of the mountain. Suddenly get a foul smell from swamp. Uh oh... realize that I stupidly had a Portal, Workbench, and a Campfire, so game sets it as a base and decides to raid me. And while I'm trying to kill everything as fast as I can, they decide to shoot and kill my poor almost tame wolf in the hole. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

fluid hull
#

โ˜ ๏ธ

keen cliff
#

And yes, I really had zero reason to make a campfire there. So dumb.

fluid hull
#

campfires and workbench prevent enemy spawns but at the same time triggers invasions... eye for an eye

keen cliff
#

Afterwards I was chopping down trees in that area and managed to get the attention of 2 drakes up the mountain who almost killed me. lol. It's like a clown show, where I'm the clown.

#

on the positive side, I found 7 onion seeds up there, and I'm working on getting a full farm of onions going. Granted, I can't do much with onions at the moment.

fluid hull
#

yeah you need to keep upgrading the cauldron or finding new ingredients

keen cliff
#

oh

#

it's only a level 2 cauldron for onion soup? I think I can make that then

fluid hull
#

if the recipe is unlocked because you have the ingredients, then your current level is enough yes

keen cliff
#

yeah, i wasn't looking at the recipe it gave me yet, since i was screwing around trying to tame that wolf

nocturne wolf

Onion soup needs a level 3 cauldron.

fluid hull

keen cliff

nocturne wolf
fluid hull
#

the moment you get silver, you'll unlock the next upgrade

nocturne wolf
#

You can unlock the recipe without the right cauldron level

keen cliff
#

yeah, i misread the wiki. I guess I'm going to go slamming staghammer in the mountains for a bit. See if I can find some.

nocturne wolf
#

Or you can kill bonemass?

keen cliff
#

meh

fluid hull
#

You need wood from all the first three biomes plus silver to unlock the next upgrade

keen cliff
#

i'm annoyed at swamps at the moment. And bonemass on my map is kinda far away.

#

i have tiny swamps with very few crypts. But I have a super close big mountain, and already cleared one Frost Cave. So I'm tackling that right now

fluid hull
#

Yeah swamp is a pain but well bonemass has the best power atm

keen cliff
#

i've only found 3 crypts in 3 swamps so far lol

fluid hull
#

the best way is either to go directly to bonemass's location or sail and find swamps near shores lol

keen cliff
#

2nd swamp i found ended up being a tiny thin swamp right next to a plains

#

3rd swamp finally had a 3 crypts

#

eyeing my map again, i really wonder if I missed a crypt in the first swamp I found. It seems big enough really.

#

Turnip Stew better across multiple metrics.

i would probably use both as base food, for planting and such when I don't want to spend real food. I tend to over-plant

#

as my chests and chest of turnips and carrots would show

#

valheim is a farming sim, rigth?

#

as i currently go to harvest from my surtling farm....

ocean hull
gray sand
#

Longer duration + more healing per tick.

In exchange you lose a whopping, massive 5 stamina. ๐Ÿ‘€

ocean hull
#

When I'm fighting lots of mobs, the 1 hp/tick is not useful. It is better to have every little bit of stam to prevetn stagger and kill the mobs faster.

gray sand
#

Sure.

ocean hull
#

The 5 minutes is easy to overcome by mass farming. Also fewer mats go into making it. Yes, boar meat is easy to get with boar farm. But boat meat also goes into sausages.

#

I tend to run sausages/turnip stew/onion stew on "easy content"...so stuff I'm geared for, and then onion soup and best health food for the "next zone". We are just now getting to the plains, so been a bit for me to remember what stam food I use after this.

keen cliff
#

i will just eat onion soup, turnip stew, honey, put on my hildr farming clothes, and plant the most crops in one go ever

ocean hull

25 minutes is perfectly adequate

grand ravine

Moder? Poison or obsidian arrows until she lands then take advantage of her awful AI and walk under her where you can stab her repeatedly with anything while she spins around in circles trying to figure out how to hit you.

imean, I'm currently early, mid, and endgame...

#

one of the features i appreciate most about valheim is the character/world system where you can mix-n-match everywhich way.

obtuse stratus

yes still lots to learn even after many hours

ornate sigil

I'm avoiding progression because I'm at the mists(and want to explore more of my world before comitting to being in THAT biome). not quite end game IMO till I hit the shores of the ashlands. but yes, a lot of people are in ashlands because it's been a while since it went live and those with pre-live experience have that meta down.

inland skiff

Is the mists also the Plains biome?

obtuse stratus
#

those are two different biomes

inland skiff
#

Oh! I didn't know that one existed!

obtuse stratus

the progression is
meadows > black forest > swamp > plains > mistlands > ashlands

inland skiff

Awesome!

I made it to the Swamps and ended up getting frustrated. I turned off enemy attacks and enabled build without using materials. Definitely cheating but I've only played soli except when Astra from here joined me and helped me get my stuff back.

are you in fully upgraded bronze armor?

parrying with your shield?

timid sun

I'm so endgame that I've fully cleared the game, for the time at completion each time, probably around 40 times. I might have a problem.

inland skiff
#

Not me. I learned after cheating that I needed to learn parry and rolls. I was tanking everything.

obtuse stratus
#

kiting as well is a critical skill

ornate sigil

tanking everything...ouch.

inland skiff

Yeah. I was dying so much and I couldn't figure it out. So I started cheating and then researching.

nocturne wolf

I don't know kiting.

I'm new to Discord still so I don't know how to respond specifically to people. But Blob I was way underprepared.

kiting(like a kite in the sky being followed by a tail), is a gaming term for having enemies chase you while you recover.

The game doesn't really have in-game chat to be honest.

At least, not voice chat.

the in game chat is limited to "per world/seed" so unless you are on a server, you wont hear them.

If you work on the fist skill flesh rippers are amazingly fun. Be warned that your block power is significantly weakened and blocking can still send you flying even if you block the damage

grand ravine
#

yeah i do recommend the dodge and weave tactic while using them

runic quiver
#

I was really mad when i made a guy good at sneak, and daggers. Only to get the rippers and theyre fist weapons lol

gray sand

Their block power is basically what a Bronze Shield would have been, for reference.

lol
