Just wait until you have to confront that b%$#%#$%.
What do they eat
making some preparations before going for Ashland... which would include getting iron, making a wood farm to get more coal faster... just tired of running around picking up coal from surtlings. Probably more black metal too if I need ballistas
Smoke puffs and vineberries
Nice
Btw Iron isnt that needed in ash
you will need for Iron nails to make drakkar
Depends if you want to build with heavy items or not.
If you do, you will need it for a stonecutter.
If not, hope you got the burning modifier turned off....
also idk who said queen power sucks. it's just great. Isn't it the first one to directly boost your ability to deal damage? for mages, etir regen is amazing buff to dps
Aw but morgen and valks are fun to fight
Flametal is sooo abundant its not even worth switching powers imo
is there a recipe I am missing for bonemaw meat or is it just cooked HP?
ik but raiding fortress alone is kinda hard as melee
Just cooked. Prob recipe in DN
DN?
Deep North
is there are new meals that do equal HP and Stam?
no
π¦
the last balanced food i ate was wolf jerky
I wanna say some of the new uncooked vegetables do (fiddlehead maybe), but not like thatβs worth it lol
why is my game so laggy? i have a good pc and very good internet connection, i host a server and i play with 2 friends, ping is jumping like crazy and everything lags after 10 minutes of playing
yea, still not as good as wolf jerk but that is too low
i never had this problem before
waaait a minute. just got an idea... shield does work with tamed animals too right?
Sounds like an average askvin
you thinking what I think you're thinking mr. thinker?
?
I'm thinking of 2 things, combat and leveling up
Yea, I dunno if shield counts as a mob though. Worth trying out
But I think the shield blocks all projectiles, even your tames or your own
Killed the Queen, to be honest I was expecting a lot harder fight, now time to prep for Ashlands
Cheesing or direct combat?
okay, I think I know how to level up blood magic fast now. tried shield spell on chicken and it works
Both
Bile bombs and normal poison ones + arrows and mistwalker
now just need to figure out most efficient way to break that shield for many chicken and not get them killed in the process
ohhh I thought you were talking about shield generator
obliterator not working out so hot... tried 5 hits and still up
True, but I don't like fighting them every time I walk out my front door π€£
doesn't breaking a shield on an NPC level up the NPCs blood magic?
pretty sure it should, just need to figure out an efficient way to break a shield of 20 chicken or something
and not kill them all in the process
Okay but why do you want to give chickens blood magic levels?
oh read that wrong, it should give the xp to you
Have you tested that you get the XP for breaking a shield? Because I've had my blood magic level up when in combat while my mate is casting shields and I only run weaponry
guys i just found a 1 star morgen XDDD
CLLC?
WARNING! butcher knife is too powerful! shield does not protect!
A shield will always protect from 100% of the damage so I suspect that the butchers knife is doing something funky in the code
I know it does for players but haven't tested tames
But if you could bubble a bunch of chickens then spam fireballs at them that feels like it would be efficient for levelling both magics, if you do get xp for both
Honestly the best way to level blood magic is probably still just make a greydwarf shooting range
hmm... doesn't seem like breaking shield on friendles give you xp
I'm around 99% xp and didn't get level up from 3 shield breaks
At least your chickens are leveling their blood magic
they'll be the strongest chickens ever lived
dire hens!
the most efficient way would probably be a lot of players gathering together, use shield in turns and everyone break each other's shield with AoE weapons
Depends what you mean by efficient to be honest, I still think that an AFK farm would be technically the most efficient because you don't have to invest active time into it
biggest problem with it being that you can't play the game while simultanioisly afking
well could still leave the game open at night tho...
That's true, hence why it's an overnight or while at work kind of thing
Worst case you end up dying from something and lose 5% of the XP you gained in your AFK session
But if you surround your spawner with walls and put in a gap to prevent "You are being hunted" I can't see a way where you die unless you've put down enough base items to spawn "You stirred the cauldron"
could also turn off raids for afk and turn them back on next day
yeah but you need 3 base items to get a raid that isn't you are being hunted and again that one can be avoided with some earthen walls
or by not being in plains/mountains
Oh is that the only location where that event spawns?
Greydwarf blood magic farm can be made 100% afk safe.
Just do earth walls and portal+workbench
Do vineberries only grow when a player isn't nearby?
Because I've been AFK here at my vineberries for 30 minutes and nothing, I've got a 16mx32m wall covered in vineberries so at least one of the nodes should have popped in that time
prob bug or they grow faster when player is not looking xd
Think they've been pretty buggy
I just wanna farm up a bunch of vineberries so I can make food for when all of my friends log back on (This is cope, the network performance hit for ashlands has all of them deciding not to long on at all)
other than multiple portals what to i bring on my first shipment to ashlands? stacks of metal or anything like that?
stonecutter
a boat
so at least 2 iron
Stone to raise a platform with the hoe
huh, learned something new today. With corpserun and Eikthyr you regenerate stamina while running
Bring a ranged weapon, you can hit the spawners from ages away and kill them, takes about 6-10 crossbow hits to kill a spawner
also who decided that 2 star ticks would drop only one blood clot? Such a scam
Same person who decided 2 star gjall should drop 0 star ticks π
Imagine a 2 star gyall just drops 3 2 star ticks on you π¨
I'd love it
They drop ticks?
They give birth to them
How did i not notice
Not enough up close gjall fighting
Well yea they just make the most terrifying sound then i shoot their ass in a panic
Only skeletons share the shield xp with you, and you only get half their xp gain.
Afaik
I just flip the finger at them, then proceed to slowely kill them with ice pebbles while occasionally dodging the shit they throw and toasting ticks
they look far more threatining to me than they really are
just hit them in the bjallsack
They look fine its the sound when im just chilling
When you're just chilling and suddenly one of them is teabagging you
I was scanning the area as one does then it was 5 feet behind me with no indication on how it got there
*teleports behind you*
the mist is just that OP. can't even see a gjall until it's within teabagging distance
lol I always hear them from miles away
I wish the wisp did more it feels useless and the wisp torch isnt bright enough
Yea I often go wispless
I usually do bitches sound like Godzilla
Place several
they usually do, but sometimes they're oddly quiet for a while
Cheap and don't require a work station
it's probably because of the color of the light
you do
I have had news for you
If only we could throw wisps to the bonfire in order to turn it into a giant wisp torch...
What if I could attach additional wisps to the wisp torch with resin
Sick idea
When you're lucky it'll be less.
Quite often mines have 2-3 seal breaker fragments.
I just hope you found the location of the Queen already, as that vegvisir is quite hard to find.
I found the spot but each mine has only had one thing
You are aware there are hidden doors in each mine?
Gotta mash your face into everything
And that's not the ones with thw writing on it, but some looking as "common" walls and only show up as doors when you move your mouse pointer over it when you're close.
Yea
I'll double check the damn mine
Not to disencourage you, but it took me 14 mines before I found the vegvisir of the queen.
By then I also had about 30'ish black cores and 8 seal breaker fragments.
Yikes well better get grinding then
It also means that the seal breaker fragments are easier to find as the vegvisir.
So there's hope. π
It took me three in my last world
Idk i found the little location tablet on my second cave
I did my search for the queen during the PTB.
So it's likely the location of the vegvisirs changes, making it harder for me to find one.
Queen location I was going to the first time didn't have her citadel anymore.
I also noticed that the Sealed Tower wasn't at the location it should've been.
So perhaps I was just unlucky.
I started my world in mistlands patch. Didnt wanna lose our village + castle i built.
I had floating trees and huge floating rocks before i reached the ashlands ππ
Also i had a tiny bit of ashlands explored already, and its flat and has tons of monsters.
When we arrived it felt like Normandy
Need to visit Hildir again and check her map.
After I did that, some new locations popped up and I found the tower there.
Ok thank you! Because i was standing there looking like an absolute moron
Same. I used to get a lot of them. Ever since the patch before PTB went live, I've not been able to harvest even a single berry. They just don't produce anything, anymore.
I know that feeling.
Just keep in mind that this game will always have a way to give you a clue.
Just like when finding a vegvisir pointing to a boss you've already discovered pointing to the same boss elsewhere if you're close enough to another location; so will Hildirs map update if the location was wrong / relocated.
Reported glitch
I still get them just
very very few
pog
The vegvisir pointing to another boss location which is closer after having found one already is a feature.
It's also a nice way to fight a boss like the Queen without needing the trophies to summon her a 2nd time. π
Interesting
I don't understand what a vegvisir has to do with fighting a boss a second time..?
if i break the cartography table, will it lose the data from other people? Or is it saved
You need to use Seeker soldier trophies to summon the Queen for a 2nd fight.
If you're able to find a vegvisir pointing to another Queen location, you don't need those trophies to summon her, as the first time the Queen is always present in a citadel.
Heya, someone interested in rescuing me out of a kinda shitty situation? π
Really? That seems very counter-intuitive and quite illogical, honestly. Not to question you, but I do question the game.
I wanted to visit my mushroom farm in the Mistlands and get some Jotun Puffs, but after the update the land there has been lowered and I fell down the steep hill. Then I went to nearby Black Forest to get wood to build a ladder, but now a Gjall has cornered me and I don't have a bow
did the menu buttons sound effect change ? i'm getting a mandela effect 0.o
How would one realistically explore the whole map
From the wiki:
*The Queen's Forsaken altar rests in the Mistlands. Unlike all previous bosses, she must be fought in a dungeon, the Infested Citadel, and her first fight requires no sacrifice. *
Nobody? Okay π
I didnt know the menu had sound
I didn't comment on menu sounds?
iT MIGHT NOT REQUIRE A SACRIFICE, BUT SURELY IT REQUIRES THE KEY.
I wanna be rescued lol π
(sorry caps)
True, but the Sealbreaker Key isn't destroyed after use.
Which means you can use it to open the doors of every Queen Citadel you find.
Thank youuu
Ok, now I understand your comment. "If you have the key from your first Queen encounter, you can use it at other altars" seems clearer π
Nevermind ive found 3 seal breaker fragments in this cave
My comment was about the vegvisirs pointing to the nearest boss. Meaning you can end up with multiple locations of the same boss.
But with the queen being the exception to the rule that you need to summon her for the first encounter, using a vegvisir to find a new location to fight her is sometimes easier as to get the 3 soldier trophies to summon her at a location you've already found before.
The fact that the Sealbreaker key is useful at multiple citadels is just a convenience.
Depends on the shitty situation. I don't dig moats, or kill bosses people aren't prepared for π (Edit: Also seems like a comment better posted in the Help channel).
Hey is there a way to equip dverg lantern to hip?
Nope.
Perhaps with a mod, but I'm not certain of that.
No, but it would certainly be cool.
Then it was a bug for sure lol, fast swap to two hand long sword and the lantern was on my hip for some reason not to long ago
I have been rescued!
Just saw a vid of a Valkyrie getting one shot with wound ripper
They have like 1500 hp
Doesn't it go to your hip if your sheath it when you're carrying a weapon as well?
(I'm playing a new world, so can't check, but that feels like something I've done).
Just watched a non-star Neck destroy a two star skeleton without taking any damage.
another day, another instance of getting killed miles from another portal somewhere in the mistlands
Another day of trying to mine for bronze after getting iron...
Another heart attack after mining copper then you get a troll with a club when you're playing very hard, came swift and so silent.
and used all your stamina...
hm well troll hide does give a stealth bonus
I have enough of it....Over 9 stacks
They won't leave me alone :C
Max raid chance, I get like 3 troll raids every 5 hours
i mean it makes the troll stealthy
You see them trollin', you hatin'. Filling them arrows yea!
True true
Doin' them rotten dirty
Bro, I've never encountered so many starred enemies before. This is my second playthrough and it seems like the game knows that I already have 150+ hours of experience and it's kind of annoying lol, I even saw a two-starred greydwarf for the first time today, and those starred skeletons in the chambers hurt.
I was in Plains already but haven't explored the Mistlands yet. I deleted that world save because I wanted to start over since I began using unrestricted portals when I got into the Mountains.
Play very hard :)
You will suffer with me
I'm playing on normal but it seems like it's one level higher with the amount of starred enemies I'm encountering.
The only change is that I turned on the fire hazard setting.
Two stars is the max unless its fish
I get two stars on a daily basis π
The two star troll waiting to spawn...
pink and prickly
My settings are enough that even someone who played this game over 600 hours on xbox and steam, I'm gonna suffer quite a lot.
My first death... Died in the safety of my own home from smoke going through the floor as if floors weren't a collider.
After that I've been doing so fine, got the serpents shield before fighting the elder :D
Guys a 0 star wolf has chance to give birth a one star baby?
Nope.
You will only get similar starred animals as the parent is.
However, if you have a single star parent and a non-star parent, you do have a chance to get a single star off spring.
After that you can kill off the non-star and continue breeding with the one stars as parent.
for the boar is different? because my one star parent give birth a 2 star
First time I hear about that.
And never seen it before.
You don't have a 2 star tamed boar nearby?
no
Odd.
Guess you ran into a bug then.
Or alternatively, whoever is the dad... I have bad news for you
you see that untamed 1 star chad over there? Yea they were dating behind your back all along
Mods?
nops
Not with the base game. You'll never get offspring of higher level than the parent.
is there a command in the console to remove all the map pins?
You can remove particular pins in the map itself. Just right-click to remove/readd.
I am playing without a map, just with compass and I see a lot of death pins
Right click them still
(Edit: Wait... can you remove markers outside of the map? I actually don't know.)
ayi we're looking for teammates in valheim (turkish) since my friends are not fluent in english(:
I can't add pictures here...
You may ask about that in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510
thank yoou
#screenshots messageI can't click on death pins, that's why I need a way to remove them
have you tried https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202267437647527977 ?
yes, works there
You're using mods. Ask in #mods-discussion
I'm asking for a console command, not a mod xD
You're USING a mod... if it has a console command, you need to ask in #mods-discussion
Compass is not from base game
the map pin itself is not a mod, it's a base map feature, same with console
the compass just reveals a problem that is a non problem without the mod
it will show in both compass and in the map if I enable it
Playing without a map means you shouldn't have pins
If you still have them despite that, then it's a mod issue
That means #mods-issues
if I have 1000 map pins and I play without mods and it heavily lags the game how do I fix it? :))
delete some? xD
Dude, they're "map pins". You manage them in the map.
so you know no console commands, thank you
If you're not using the map, you're stuck with the pins that generate.
you can right click the icons at the side to remove all those type from view, like right click campfire removes all those, etc
the only things i tag now are portals and bases
Or right click them one by one to remove them permanently
i might make a few extra markers for active work area, then i simply remove them after i'm done there
When you finally just got finished with the ground is shaking, then you get the SAME raid not even a min after :D
Guess it's time to spend more time outside your base.....
I have STRONG walls, 4 walls thick of stone :)
Its time to increase the moat, mwahahhaha
My walls survive anything besides trolls... Although this is like my 60th troll raid
Feels Like anyways
Guys, we're just going into ashlands for the first time
We figure it's smart to bring 5 copper + 5 iron for the shield generator
but what other non-portalable resources will we need?
2 more iron for a stone cutter. π
any vikings on the way to the ashlands ? invite me
You may consider to bring some wood for workbenches and materials for a portal if you plan to build a small outpost at one of the spires near the coast.
yea but i can portal stuff like that
Might better ask that in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510
just asking about things to bring on ship to skip extra trips
And how are you going to build that portal if you don't bring the goods?
Wood, iron, stone, a portal, 10 dark ingots, a whole lot of courage
and 2 balistae with ammo
For balista ammo; 5 stacks of 20 wooden ones will be enough to start with as that's two full balistae plus 20 reserve.
wwhat's the black metal for
more balistae later
Better to just explore putrid holes to get molten cores for the stone portals
we're on hardcore multiplayer
Only thing that is essential is what's needed for stone/black marble walls surrounding the camp
you need to establish a base 1st
so ballistae seem kinda sus
Ballistae can wait
bring balistae with you on boat
With just two molten cores you can essentially build a single stone portals from main base to ashlands and portal everything from there
but not balistae
Not essential
but efficient
can u teleport the molten cores
All mats for stone portals can be teleported
There's no need for that, as you can teleport ALL items with a stone portal.
Including the Black Metal, springs and whatever's needed to craft a balista.
if you get the molten core
It teleports all items as explicitly stated just above
You can even craft just one stone portal to be a one way thing, a regular portal at base and a stone portal at the ashlands, so you can deposit all the stuff from the new area then build a stone portal at home to make it a perfect round trip.
Stone portals connect to regular portals
Although I'm unsure if you can still teleport ores if you use a stone portal to a regular one
Someone should test that
Still can't teleport metals from your main base to Ashlands, if only Ashlands has a stone portal.
Unless you have the "portal all" modifier turned on.
You can, however, teleport metals and ores through a stone portal to a normal (wooden) one.
Sick, gonna exploit that.
lots of stone & balista respawn base foothold, Then get the core
For the unlegit people, you can just transfer your items on a different world then have your character pick them up once you reach destination
Less hassle I guess, for those who work a ton and have no time to boat 90% of their play through
Yeah, world hopping is still possible, we're aware of that.
Just had 4 troll raids in a row :)
Game wants me to die as I have not died since day 2, its day 70 rn
That would suggest you've been playing for at least 188 minutes. I suggest you take a break; drink some water, move around, stretch.
question, I'm at the Queen marker but I cant find anything there?
I have been, when you have 15 huskies, you get up a lot and stretch.
World created pre-Ashlands?
If that's true, the location may have moved because of the rework of both the Ashlands and the Deep North biomes
oh..
So back to the mine and look for a vegvisir. And perhaps remove that marker from your map to make sure you won't go there by accident again.
That's also not a question. Adding a question mark doesn't change that. π
hehe
Time to get silver before I fight the elder now..
or you know, just turn off portal restrictions at that point
hello
For people who dont own the world :)
If you can manage traversing the mountains, you can definitely manage Elder. What are you talking about?!
Ah on very hard and fire hazards
dont exploit it like that then unless the owner says its fine, at that point the owner would turn off the restrictions though
elder wasnt too hard just move alot and have fire arrows
Isn't the whole game "very hard"?
Normal is super duper easy, same with hard, so I'm on very hard this whole playthrough even for ashlands :D
I plan to not die much as possible
You go dude!
I'm solo too
what does the resource multiplier apply to?
everything
...resources.
Drops and floor pickup-able items, thats it
So... Everything
Only stuff unaffected is items in chests
It does
Have you not come across wall- or ceiling-pickupable items?
though for item pick ups its a bit wierd as on X1.5 everything drops twice as much
It does? I must had some crazy bad rolls
Setting it to x3 and the chest is generated will make the chest have three times more resources
But it happens only once, when it's generated
instance dungeons are generated once at world start or once entered?
hey all I'm trying to build a base in the Ashland and need some help because its more or less impossible since every time I'm doing anything something spawns and makes it really hard to do stuff is there a way to ward off all the spawns.ps can you say it with out spoilers thank you
The ones from like frost caves? I thought that was a bug (which should've been fixed at some point)
I see, thanks
Iirc, once entered.
But still not completely sure
well, time to sail from the very top of the world to the new queens location at the very bottom of the world π
also no way of testing it i guess huh?
Complicated as it also happens once
Feel that, I'm gonna have to do it alone
any "player built structures" decrease spawn able areas. most people like to use campfires as the workbenches might get destroyed easier.
When you play with fire hazards like me :D
pretty sure campfires should burn?
so throw a lot of campfires down is what your telling me?
Burns everything..
from what I have heard, campfires are the way to go for initial landfall in ashlands
would be worried if your campfire burns down
Is there a bug where infested mines donβt spawn?
I keep finding buildings that look like them but they r empty
No, but their location may have moved after the Ashlands update, as that boime and Deep North are seperated from previous land masses.
Don't think they burn each other down but the grass around, the wood like 2-4m's away sometimes, idk about trees which I'ma test that.
Fire arrows by your friends could burn your house down :D
I think
Also: there are two types of infested mines.
One being a former Dverger tower, the other one having a long staircase with one working wisp lantern at the right side of the staircase.
So what structures are they found in or are they random holes in a rock
if my spawn point gets destroyed where will it put me? at the beginning?
Yeah I find these abandoned towers and I go down a staircase only to an empty room with seekers
yes
correct. if your bed gets destroyed or you forget to claim one, you will go back to where you started/where the bird dropped you off at the beginning of the game.
If that empty room has another - Black Marble - staircase going down it'll lead into an invested mine.
Otherwise it's just a basement.
So I keep finding just basements lol
I have seen mines in abandoned "dwarf" buildings and built into the landscape like frost caves are(usually have a grand staircase into a large rockface).
Yeah, I kinda said that here: #valheim-chat message
they all have that nasty/sticky/yellowish goop looking stuff. if you find the goop, you have found a mine.
Do tin nodes respawn?
A chef might just try it out, bon appetite
Nope
Nope
I don't believe any ore nodes respawn. Flint does though (unlimited flint axe(s) anyone?).
how long does fermenting take
3-4 days
to quote the wiki "A fermenter cycle takes two in-game days."
Yup, I was thinking of the crop growth cycle.
If i remember right, a full day cycle is about 30 minutes irl time
I got killed bit a blue giant earlier
Ah the insects that bother me every 5 mins
that was likely a forest troll
That's a troll.
Get used to it, because you will need its hide for armor, meaning you need to hunt them sooner or later.
I wish there was dynamite so I can just blow up the copper
in the meadow, how come there are a bunch of massive rocks situated in a perfect circle? is there treasure there or something
I wondered that for ages too
there might be. use the wishbone from bonemass to check. otherwise it might be a grave marker.
"Pro"-tip:
Don't mine it down from the top to the bottom, but mine around it first with a small ramp to enter that area.
Then start mining it down from below, as that will give you shelter.
Place a workbench to repair that antler pickaxe and a campfire and you will get a rested bonus; which in turn will generate health and stamina faster.
vikings marked a lot of things with graves, including their boats.
Not sure I can kill one. It hit me once and I died
YOu got a bow, don't you?
So fight it at range.
You can just roll and become invincible for a tiny short while, and beat em up with melee or do that and run bow.
Oh I thought it was like EverQuest where giants wander around the newbie areas and you just avoid them until you can come back and kill them with more levels and gear
Does Ash fang (or enchanted versions) are better than Spinesnap? I mean, 20 spirit damage is very useful against a lot of mobs
Hmm
You can kill everything in this game with starter gear
misthare supreme or meat platter?
misthare
thx
So can i get to ashland on a current save?
the best use for seeker meat is seeker aspic?
Forgot how cozy this game are
oh yeah?
confused
yep
the game is forward compatible
Thanks.
Stop being confused!
Cast me a spell
Yo, that release trailer is so sick. π Iron gate holding it down!
Can you dig out an underground base?
Damn is it actually that good?
Under the elder altar or any large boulders you can
Ye
It had to be under a solid structure for you to have a roof
The Elder Altar is where I hung the deer head?
The elder altar is where you fight the elder
Nope, thats the first boss
Eikthyr

The second boss is named elder
Heβs got a huge square altar you can dig under
Probably the biggest underground house you can get away with from what I know
ah
Should really make a new save i guess
I havenβt tried going underground in mistlands yet so idk if thereβs something decent for it there
Why
such a long time ago i did this playthrough, i do remember most things though
Where should I go once I'm done with mountains
Plains
isnt it plains next
Keep your shield out when you venture into the plains for the first time π
haha
I never forget riding on my boat close to it early on
And i was far from home, very far.
Learned a few things from that though
that one buzz
my fire keeps going out and back on again randomly
Mine was doing that earlier too. I think my opening wasn't big enough
If you have that happening, you either need to increase the height of the roof of your house, or build something around it to protect that fire from 3 sides.
The whole smoke mechanic is an interesting feature
Died like 5x before I realized it was from carbon monoxide poisoning
planting ashvine is really underwhelming, doesn't seem to be very good at all
I covered all my castle walls in them an they barely produce any. I get more from just exploring
Definitely needs a buff
anyone looking to farm some weapon/block skill with me
ive died so many damn times in ashlands i need to farm sword again
is there any new food recipe in ashlands that use egg or chicken meat?
A new egg yes but not chicken egg
I got my sword up to 100 π happy to help
word, you just wanna host a public rq
I have a public server but I also play private
sweet, what's the best sword to use
im guessing the lowest damage one, dont know which one that would be though
I'm using Nidhogg Thundering rn
Mistwalker is still one of the best sword for Ashlands
using a high level one is good for farming the skill?
nop
well basically dead food to me. never used it much in mistlands either due to going for magic build
chicken cuisine seem inferior compared to the cuisine of Ashlands. The status of chicken meat is declining
ashlands food is far too easy to make for literally anything else in the game to be worth it anymore
Thatβs the point of progression
i mean i guess you could look at it that way
started after plains, the cauldron is receiving some easy recipes
just feel like it's a bit odd that you can make the current best food in the game far easier subjectively speaking than any food previously
at least in terms of health food, the food in Ashenlands is too cheap and too easy to obtain.
sneaking doesn't seem to be very effective
like you literally just run around ash farming metal or looking for fortresses and obtain the stuff needed for the food easily
it is after
decreases your general visibility and increases sneak while crouched
can you break muddy scrap piles with bronze pick?
And the first hit you do while sneaking is doing a lot more damage.
Any reason why i cant dismantle my boat?
yup.
Can even mine them with the antler pickaxe (which is even advised by some)
Because you need to destroy it.
It's one of those items you can't dismantle.
smash it with your highest damage weapon
Not uncommon for food from earlier biomes to become mostly irrelevant later
And it's actually one of the fewer cases considering +90% of late foods need at least one ingredient from earlier biomes
we cant dive right? i just fucked up, ffs
No we can't.
YOu lost your nails, I asume?
oh no.
its just below me
Make a ladder and jump in from high up to sink further
time to build up your portal π€·ββοΈ
how low? you can jump from high up and will dive a bit
pretty low, im gonna try dive
Portal?
However, chicken can only be obtained before entering the Mistlands. When it can be mass-produced, it is already obsolete. It's a bit of a pity.
Something you can build after having finewood, surtling cores and greydwarf eyes.
How is it obsolete in Mistlands? it's needed for the highest HP food you can get completely from farming.
Oh
The foods you can cook with it are still mistlands-tier tho
Got it, seems you only get half back after destroying it. But thats fine
because when it can be mass-produced, u have already enter Ashlands
Mass-produced how?
I got chicken dinner shortly after entering Mistlands. First priority for me is Jotun Puffs when I start exploring.
Gosh, this copper just seems to go on and on and on. I have a whole strip mine operation at this point
starting from just two eggs to mass-producing chicken meat takes quite a long time. If your gameplay pace is a bit fast, you might miss out on it.
You will be able to mine about 90-100 copper ore from one node.
You're stating that as if that was the intended way of getting chicken materials
And the way everyone would do it
I suppose so, if you start from two. I usually have enough gold for at least a dozen eggs by the time I find Yagluth, and I've already built my chicken coop.
Is there a name for the big stone circles in the meadows?
sacraficial stones
Wow that's making me think twice about making my first shack inside them
The sacrificial stones are where you spawn. I don't think the other circles have names
At least you have a partially indestructible outer wall and raised support by building there
Are you talking about the ones with the pictures on it or the ones looking like those stones, but without the pictures?
The former are the sacfrificial stones, the other ones can be used to build yourself some sort of a base if you like.
That's fair. I'm thinking of doing a stone tower inside one when I unlock the stone cutter
I just need some inspiration on how to go about it lol
Those should be stone henges
Those are in plains, not meadows
circle of stones then?
I get them mixed up
The wide circles of tall stones (5 I think)
Okay, clearly I am gonna have to get serious about raised ground protection at my port base in Ashlands.
I thought I'd be fairly safe on the back of some shoreline rock spires, raised a ground area in case of Morgen as a contingency, and got to building. Went fine for several days and no sign of Morgen so I thought maybe I had managed to find an area they wouldn't regularly spawn....
And then I portalled in one morning to find one climbing the spire.
5 minutes later, Morgen dead and fully half the front of the spire gone to pieces
I just finished a raised ground causeway through the boiling water at max height to another stone spire out to sea and that is where I am putting my stone portal.
Sheesh
THere's all this stone on the ground from my mining. Does it eventually despawn?
I build on the ocean stacks
Yeah I was referring to the big ones across meadows that are in a perfect circle and angled out
literally can't build anywhere else cause of how often things attack me
If you stay away for a while and you don't have any base structures, yes.
I thought the one I started with was far just in the water enough to keep enemies from climbing it but nooooope
I've got grand total of 6 eggs before killing queen, at some point I just gave up on them because they do not lay eggs when you're away, meaning I got jack shit and far from enough to be sustainable
Any idea why I don't see the huntsman bow on the crafting list in game? I have all the ingredients and forge 1. I disabled all mods except epicloot, but it didn't help.
not a forge weapon if I recall right
don't see it on crafting table either
need level 2 for huntsman bow, no?
have level 3
According to the wiki, only level 1
dunno then.
maybe put down and pick up all the ingredients again.
finewood, iron, feathers, deerhide, right?
Yes, sir. Got all those ingredients. Tried dropping everything, etc
Wasn't it Core wood as well?
What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
Iron is needed for a huntsman bow
You shouldn't shoot birds from the air unless much later in the game.
If you need feathers, shoot birds when they're sitting on the ground.
And use wooden arrows for that.
Thorin, are you a Chat-GPT?
Not according to my parents. π
What if they're ghat gpt too? What if you're chat gpt? What if I'm chat gpt?
We're all just living in a simulation.
don't panic
We'd be living in the Matrix.
What does ChatGPT say when you ask whether it's ChatGPT?
Let me see
I asked Copilot and it gave a boring answer of it's Copilot and it's designed to help me answer questions.
Skynet
Ok, these waters are boiling. π
I guess I just hit bottom. I can't seem to dig any deeper.
ty
Will I ever be able to go onto the big tree in the sky?
We don't know yet.
No.
Probably not
I got "The Chills" raid while I was exploring Ashlands and they all got slaughter by the mobs there π€£ π€£ π€£ π€£ π€£
Wrong chat, apologies
By the way I really like the new wording for killing bonemass
The mass is no longer moving was a very wordy way of saying you killed him π€£
if you consider bonemass to be alive
Whatβs a pretty decent level to get your blocking level to?
Who would consider a moving biological mass as dead?
skeletons are wandering around
40-50 will help a lot
Does having a higher level consume less stamina when you block or does it just make you able to sustain more damage?
Depends on your definition for alive when considering fiction then I suppose
I think both? Thereβs more details on the block wiki
Oh itβs just .5 block armor per level
I was thinking about making that tasty mead so I can speed up stamina regen and then just go hold block in one spot for like an hour while some skeletons attack me
Thatβs a solid idea
βBlocking uses 10 stamina multiplied by the percentage of the used Block armor (i.e. damage/block armor). Blocking skill indirectly reduces the Stamina usage by increasing the Block armor.β
Ahhhh, that makes a lot of sense. So it does have an effect on stamina
One of my big problems is I suck at managing my stamina bar
Valheim combat is fun⦠until you run out of stamina
Which I guess is not that big of an issue in late game with better foods and higher skill lvls and potions
But early game itβs frustrating. Iβm still in the Bronze Age in my new world
Treat it like dark souls
Anyone else feel like there is way too much Flametal xD
You just walk though
Most things canβt hit you if you walk while youβre still in bf
Really itβs just trolls that can catch up which isnβt even that bad on normal difficulty with that super slow swing
In swamps as well you can walk away from a lot of hits at least all the non archer draugr
Did they add a way to stop base decay other then a roof in ashlands?
Iβd love it if they gave the stealth mechanics a bit more love. I feel like stealth attacking hasnβt ever really been viable in Valheim even though itβs there
Has anyone found out any value to upgrading the ||trollstav||? We've done a side by side comparison of an unupgraded and upgraded one and found them exactly the same. ||(Same number of spawns, same damage, same health, etc)||
More of a bow thing than anything imo
Makes bows so strong but you donβt have to level sneak skill for that
Yeah, itβs just the dagger that gets shafted cause u can hardly ever get the jump on anything
I've not tested it yet, but will let you know.
If its the same as dead raiser you should get more spawns and more durability
Eh idk I sneak up on things all the time
Had to sneak up on all my deer this run because Iβm trying to go fist only
Super easy for that at least but they also donβt move much
Definitely not increased spawns, nor time on the spawns. Durability yes, but that's sad if all it is
Itβs more so that I wish you could go assassins Creed on fuling villages and stuff. That would be cool
yeah, I agree. Def add that to suggestions or maybe it's a bug
Like if you could toss a rock to lure a fuling and then sneak attack it while itβs separated
They should add bushes to the map generation that you can hide from monsters inside
do you not get higher starred trolls?
Nope, there is no effect on the trolls. We naively tested their damage side by side and health, zero change.
Asksvin cape affect swim wtf?
I think it's probably a bug then. Worth reporting
#steam-bugs-discussion , yeah?
anyone elses map seem wrong?
Go into your save files and delete any minimap cache files associated with your world
#valheim-help pins, follow the instructions to make save backups
Won't destroy the markers
also didn't realise the troll isn't on your side xD
If you mean by "wrong" that the Ashlands is no longer connected to other land masses, that's an effect of the release of that biome.
If you mean by "wrong" that locations have moved, that's also the effect of the above.
If you don't mean that, than please define "wrong".
pretty sure scarlet knows what i mean
but yea, no upgrade benefits
wrong = showing landmasses that arent there, water where there isnt, coasts are in the wrong spot etc
i.e. referencing the wrong world for the minimap and overlay
Lemme guess:
Pre-Ashlands release world created?
it was but i deleted that and made a new one with the same name
i reset everything for this new release
fixed it, thanks
damn i realize there was a way better spot to put my first base lol
Is the askvin set good?
am i the only one to be disappointed by the new melee weapons ?
according that theres lot of undead in ashlands, spirit-based weapons Mistwalker (1H sword) and Spinesnap (bow) seems to be way better than new weapons ...
it was the same with Frostner (1H mace) and Draugr Fang (bow) during the transition between mountains and plains
i found no interest in crafting new melee weapons, whereas magical ones are really strong
Yes
Think I might make it as a backup then and have flametal armor as my main
Personally Iβd use flametal as backup but yea thatβs just me idk
I did not know askvins had a lunging attack I got jump scared and one shot
why is yggdrasil porridge worse than seeker aspic, when it's arguably more expensive to make
I feel like the stats should be switched
guys anyone up to borrow like 3 flax or sth, searched like 15 fuling villages and no flax in any
incredibly unlucky ngl
devcommands
Fun fact, iron bars take water damage. They rust
nah another player feels more legit to me
Asking someone else outside of your server/world to give you something you can get yourself has zero difference to just spawning it yourself. Especially when that person could do the exact same thing in the end.
Trading in a game where devcommands are a thing makes it very pointless
Staff of Fracturing: useful in Ashlands or no?
(as compared to fire and ice from Mistlands)
Against single targets yes, but only barely.
Much better vs any other early enemy
I'm still trying to sort out how best to deal with those infuriating Morgen's and starred Charred Warriors
Because Mistwalker works but the margin for error is low and the errors in my play are high, lol
Just hitting them once is enough to break their pathfinding as they struggle to reach you
Hard pass in mistlands
basically everything is resistant to fire which is the whole point of using that staff
now i know whats the problem...
My previously mined Flametal from before patch, has turned into Ancient Metal... Rly devs? rly??
With the SoF?
No, mistwalker
Fracturing is only barely useful in ashlands unless you hit individual enemies
I'm still salty that they removed how fast you leveled up elemental skill with it.
It definitely felt intended
It's weird to me that arrows are okay against charred and Morgen when they are made of bones and such. Still seems weird that Blunt/slashing wouldn't be more effective
Once I finish my raised ground ramparts to keep those rolling jackasses from murdering my rocks spires I'm gonna see how they hold up to a phalanx of ballistae
pretty sure both are resistant to pierce
Ye they are
Yeah but not the elemental effect
why would them being bone prevent them from taking elemental damage
My valheim addiction has started up again with the ashlands. It's all I can think about dammit
Well it is amazing
Cannot disagree with either of you
100%
I have level 65 elemental and everything is just dying to my staff of embers π
trying out battle mage with full flametal armor, so OP
who needs eitr regen? Stupid mage armor...blooding useless
heavy armor & shield + staff. I use the mage hood also, pots too.
still working on my elemental
I might swap out bonemass for queen power to boost eitr but honestly I don't even need it
keep bonemass and use the mage cap for regen.
i was thinking ice staff woulod be beter but ok
fight fire with fire
Yeah the ice staff is surprisingly ineffective against most ashlands enemies
Bonemaw excluded
nice. Can`t wait to smash snowmen with the ice staff
Works reasonably at slowing things down or finishing them off, but yeah no
ice staff more supportive
I am half-assed tempted to start sprinting around ashlands in my fenris armor avoiding combat
anyone try the lightning pole?
Greetings, im back from being away so long
the shotgun?
Yeah it's good
in ashlands?
morgen
i`m thinking ashlands is more of a AOE land. Anything aoe will do well
are people finding ashlands better than mistlands was?
I'm pretty certain they like the visibility a lot more. π
mistlands you can get away with stealth a lot. Ashlands is all brutal slaughter
I had never seen such thing as a fallen valkyrie
more visibility & enemies
It was brutal
I think brutal is fine, difficulty slider exists now anyway. But i hope people find it more fun than mistlands.. feel like it had alot of issues... permanent, undispellable mist, new NPCs we only get to kill.. turrets that shoot the player in the face over enemies
I did this first of all. Still effective armor for sure
turrets are better on outposts since they can be made to target specific enemies that come more often
lightning pole?
yea, have not built it. only have aitag
absolutely nop. In Mistlands, you can pull mobs for a 1v1 fight, but in Ashlands, even a little noise will attracts over 10 mobs. It's impossible to handle on VeryHard difficulty.
i like. its different.
tbh id probably just abuse the terrain to shoot at them. I still prefer that to having a zone where you just permanent cant see
@shy marlin
I get some peole didnt mind that but personally I couldnt stand it and never got past it lol
the fog is a bit slap & slam. The fog while at sea is much better and fluent, wish it was similar just thicker.
oh man
never got past it emotionally
Respectfully, that's on you. I went deathless on very hard blind.
With which weapons?
First run that was blind I did mage strategies, and then second run i've done i went full melee no magic and went deathless, but with information gained from previous run
more stamina or hp?
so u finish a nodeath run in ashlands of VeryHard combat difficulty? how u do it?
I'm a sweat lord
Nah idk i engage with games weird and try hard them, like i killed 10 simultaneous queens on vh
ashlands is such an overtuned zone
On higher difficulties, I cannot handle more than 3/4 mobs at the same time, especially in the Ashlands where mobs have extremely high health, which makes the battles drag on for a very long time.
Not sure val is a good game to be scaled to be difficult in that way. Like mobs dont get more interested they just 1 shot you and have too much hp.
and you have only one chance for a mistake. the charred melee warrior's attack takes over 240 health.
Its not a very interesting way to make engagements more difficult
one hit puts you off balance, leaving you no chance to roll away.
Have you tried playing on hard btw?
Once you can dominate hard, i'd step into very hard
before the Ashlands, I could still handle the veryhard difficulty of the game.
π which tells me you just need to practice ashlands more
You'll get there again, just takes time and practice
but in the Ashlands, I'm constantly running back to retrieve my corpse.
Idk my biggest beef with the ashlands rn is warrior telegraphs. The animations aren't unique enough to differentiate between the normal attack and its feint. I'd like to be parrying but you kind of just have to dodge
is anyone willing to help me fight the queen? i got her to like 2/3rds hp but i just used my last lingering stamina and poison meads and i dont wanna have to restart the fight and stuff
People, why are the ashlands so tough. Me and my mate just landed and we got jumped immediately, with me dying in the process even though being fully equipped and him logging out afraid for his life.
Ashlands is designed to be very difficult
We land and immediately
Think of it like a battle royal
not anymore difficult than first time in mistlands or plains imo
It's just the β β new biome experience β β
I took Fenris and mistwalker and felt it was pretty easy
Charred warrior with 1 star arrives. I start hitting with frost eitr power and he barely takes any damage, then 2 seconds later i hear my friend screaming there's a whole army of them and the rest is history
That sounds about right
Took me an hour to clear a beach-head
Less of a BR and more of a man vs army simulator lol
||are flametal beams stronger then wood iron? just asking before i start my next project||
should be the same iirc
I was fully equipped with lvl3 carapace armor, had the frost + fire eitr magic stuff, lvl3 mistwalker and carapace shield. my friend had an arbalest same armor shield and sword and we still died so easily?
thats sad
does jump reduce fall damage threshold?
Indeed. I wanted to build higher. Turns out it was all a lie
hopefully they will do a Hearth and Home 2 update soon
Whats allat
try to use the wild stuff. a good way to draw the attention of the mobs away
then u have chance to attk them
I saw a video and the guy was killing them pretty easily using the frost staff
So i thought i could do the same
speed is key, being able to run around enemies and avoid all dmg
Did that video also show the difficulty of the game, how much skill that player had in elemental combat and what level the staff was?
Yes
Upgrading mistland gear to 4 makes a big difference
He didnt do much, i pretty much copied as much as i could
That requires stuff from the ashlands, doesn't it?
I'd love to be able to run around when collecting resources
Yes, valk feathers flametal and asksvin trophy
i have tried using the ice staff with low skill levels, but I couldn't deal any damage at all.
Oh you think i should get my skill levels up first?
I feel like the ice staff is more useful for slowing down mobs, providing a better environment for melee teammates to deal damage.
Then that would deal more damage?
Mistwalker was the only mistlands weapon that felt reliable in the ashlands. And honestly I'd even call it good in the ashlands
It is good
Staff of embers does okay against marksmen and twitchers, for warriors your best bet is mistwalker until you can craft dundr
Anyone know how to stop the momuments of torment from respawning? have alot that keep appearing near my base and the hordes of undead are lagging my game to hell
Also demolisher does good work until you get some upgrades
I had one on me.. damn
should I make frostner or a silver sword before fighting the boss of the mountain biome. are either useful for the plains?
I mean it's still holding up now that I've gotten gem enhanced weapons. Probably will be something I take through the entire biome
Though your best weapon until you get ashlands gear is friendly fire
I mean now i lost all my stuff and have to re make armor and all my weapons soooo wish me gl
frostner is a powerful weapon, even in mistlands
Is the stuff lost in the water?
Nah
In the ashlands (on land not in water), but the charred wariors and their army is scouting them.
Guessing you weren't able to get a portal up
ill make it then
I managed to get a portal up but right when i died my friend yelled "they broke the portal" and logged out because he was about to die as well
Did you say your friend was able to log before dying?
they are going to beat his ass in an instant, too stronk
The area should unload after a while. Will give you time to place the teleporter and recover your stuff
as soon as I land to the Ashlands, I have to immediately find a Morgen cave. then I can only move around the area near the cave. If I sense danger, I just hide inside the cave.
Once i get my stuff what do i look for first?
Fortify that teleporter lol. Run and gun when you get mobbed
Bring a hoe and a few stacks of stone to set up terrain walls with.
Once you have a fortified position to retreat to it gets a lot more managable
Thats what im going to do probably
But i dont know what i should be looking for. Like, caves? Structures? Ores? Killing mobs?
Our target was to just let the portal and log out for the night
a good place for a base
Flametal first for crafting station upgrades
Assuming you have the mats to upgrade mistland gear 5 flametal is all you need for melee gear
Is that the stuff that spawns on top of like this tall thing sorrounded by lava?
Yes
Ight π
its hard. so many mobs can jump or fly in Ashlands, making it very difficult to stop them destroying your base
Kinda squarish looking pillars
Look for flametal deposits in lava lakes and craft the armor asap. Morgen caves will get you the magma cores for the large stone portal (teleports ores and other non teleportable things). Flametal weapons aren't super worth it until gem upgrades imo
Valks dont spawn near the shore and voltures are weak
Why do i get mobbed by 8 enemies every 2 minutes
And lava blobs cant jump a high enough terrain wall
Cuz ashlands bb
would be fine if they were somewhat squishy, but that and their speed and their number
Also how do i cross the lava, i genuinely have no idea. Do i build over it or something?
Ride an asksvin
just a bit of a nuisance
Really wish they'd reduce the combat slog. Or at least give you downtime after fighting a large mob
Yes, that's essentially the point. Finally having an enemy that is harder to parry considering parry is so powerful overall
Yeah, i want fighting a large mob to feel epic with parries and dodges. However I just get ganked by 8 guys
i found a nice little island just north of ashland that has mist/plain/mountain combo biome
You'll want to craft basalt bombs. You'll need to fight and kill askvins for their hide and bladder (big lizards) and break the glowing magma stones or kill magma slimes for one of their mats (prausterite powder?)
I know it's the point but something needs to telegraph the feint a lil bit more. As far as I can tell the moves are near identical
the location of my next stronghold
I'm fine with having to memorize parry timings because they're funky or difficult. I really dislike when 2 identical telegraphs require different parry timings
Does fighting enemies attract other enemies? Because I was fighting a single one star enemy in the Ashlands and then a whole bunch of other enemies appear out of nowhere and they all swarm me
Holy moly ashlands are complicated.
Exactly what happend to me for real
you can just click for both timings you have plenty of time to recover
I know you can. I just have beef with the mechanic
Yes. Yes they are lmao
Noise attracts enemies, and fighting makes noise
stuff spawns in out of nowhere though, ive seen it happen directly
obviously noise attracts enemies, but do we know for sure it doesnt also spawn enemies?
Nah, they spawn whether you make noise or not.
Ashlands spawn rate and spawn limits are just much higher than previous biomes so you notice
Will the ||burn effect|| mess with ||stone and black marble building objects||
black marble and grausten are immune, stone is not.
their detection range is particularly wide. Once you start fighting with Morgen or Asksvin, the noise is sure to attract a ton of mobs.
but considering you can't walk 50 meters in the Ashlands without picking up a stack of grausten that's not exactly a problem
then ur just completely overwhelmed
I killed a troll!
Whats grausten?
Congrats
the new Ashlands stone basically
Like black marble and stone but ashlands level
black marble is actually better, grausten is just much easier to farm
just tested some stuff.|| and the flametal beams hold black marble floors higher out then it will hold up a grasten floor||
Thanks. Don't ask me how I did it. I just did it. It was hard.
Next one will be easier.
do you lose skills in player combat?
with every death, cause doesent matter π
really? even in pvp?
i believe it should π€ tho i didnt do much pvp myself
I have a question
What should i bring to beat the queen and what kind of prep should i be doing other than the obvious set up a base and level your gear
pvp, pve, fall damage, standing in fire, drowning, it doesn't matter. Death = xp loss
Oh brutal
wiki doesent say that anything should be different for pvp deaths, so skills are lost anyway
You might start to consider if you're going to fight her with melee, magic or a combination of both.
Depending on that, bring health, stamina, anti poison and perhaps eitr potions.
Bring food to deal with both health, stamina and eitr.
A 2 handed weapon may be nice to deal with her spawns, feather cape is a must, mistwalker with a shield works too.
mats for wisp torches and campfires, a bunch of bile bombs to deal with the adds and a stack of every mead useful for your build (some of her attacks do poison so poison resistance mead isn't a bad idea).
If you're going mage eiktyhr > bonemass, you can just use the stairs in the infected citadel to kite her until she dies. Melee is a little harder but manageable in maxed Mistland gear, you can retreat to the entrance to regen health if necessary since she can't reach you there.
How do I get magic?
You will be able to get it once you reach the Mistlands.
Which is the 6th biome and a bit further in your progress
craft magic weapon, grow eitr food, ||burn stuff||
I just hit day 150
Cool
The amount of days doesn't mean much.
I defeated the Queen around day 500.
But then, I've also been postponing the fights with Yagluth and the Queen because I don't like them.
Yea i use mistwalker and shield + bubble
Im on day 223 i believe
Mine was somewhere in the 400s iirc, but i spend a lot of time faffing around and building since there was really no point killing her fast when she was the last boss.
Gonna do ashlands after i beat her so far mistlands is by far my least favorite biome
is anyone having extreme lag and package loss in the Ashlands?
I mean no point doing it slow its done then i can explore
it's been unplayable for a few days
it would be nice if we got some type of personal event when the game hit 365, 730, 1095, etc
Couldn't tell you I've never even been there
well yeah, but the only thing i would've gotten from her before Ashlands is the power, and i didn't need it. Her drop was still a placeholder and the only other benefit would have been disabling seeker and gjall raids, and i like getting free bile bags delivered.
Fair is her ability any good btw?
Like does it have a use? Because the only useless one is the elder
It is in Ashlands, both for the eitr regen (triple eitr food + queen power lets you cut through hordes like butter) and the mining speed (since flametal pillars ||sink||
In Mistlands i didn't find it necessary since 2 eitr 1 stam gives you enough eitr to kill pretty much anything non-starred without needing to regen.
Queen power is BiS for mage builds
Oh? Is it like magic eikthr?
did they change where you find location runes for the Elder or am i just really unlucky with these burial chambers
If i had to guess thats the only thing that makes sense
Just unlucky or not looking hard enough
What percent extra fire damage does feather cape make you take?
double
Feather cape is weak to fire?
though both fire resistance from mead or fenris armor and bubble staff negate the weakness
It doesnt say that like root armor tho how come
it is since the ashlands update
It should, but it was a recent change so maybe you havenβt noticed
Ohhh i haven't checked it
though it also got a massive jump bonus which is more than worth the trade
I made it before the update
Itβs very weak, not just weak. You should definitely carry fire mead with you.
:(
It has increased jump height now though
Might use a different cape then its not THAT useful it was just nice for convenience

Think of all the new jump attack opportunitiesβ¦
feather cape brings you half-way to immortality if you can manage your stam. It's still the best cape in the game and the weakness is easily negated.
I dont get how
You can jump attack (and just jump to avoid attacks) better than ever before
the jump bonus, feather fall and ability to glide give you a massive mobility advantage, which means you can easily dodge almost any attack in the game if you know the animations.
also mages can cast spells while jumping instead of basically standing still while casting.
This isnβt just mages, melee weapons and bows work too
I often jump attack with melee to stay out of the enemy attack trigger as much as possible
Doesn't work for the protective bubble, though.
You need to be standing on the ground for that. (haven't tested it on a ship yet, but guess it works there too)
Jump attack?
Jump attacking allows you to move horizontally mid-animation to avoid damage while killing things
Oh so its not an actual thing its a frame cancel
True, but you only need to recast that when you get hit. Which with feather cape you pretty much don't if you don't mess up.
Also you can still use the jump bonus to get some distance fast to recast the bubble if necessary.
Also wouldn't that just eat stam? Why not just sprint slightly back
Because you can damage enemies and avoid attacks at the same time, unlike rolling and walking which canβt be done while attacking
You're forgetting that the bubble has a timer.....
You regen stam while feather falling. Jumping off somewhere high is actually a pretty solid tactic to refill you stam or eitr bars if you run low since few things can threaten you in the air.
4 minutes
I didn't. I just recast it at the start of a fight if necessary.
Does the heat resistance on flametal armor make you not die as fast in the water and lava?
Technically yes, but not by much.
It increases the delay before damage but once it starts you still take the same amount.
Thatβs what I thought. Brother jumped on lava and lived for like 3 seconds. Enough to get out and live
can someone explain the staff of fracturing?
it seems really not great compared to the alternatives :/
Most of the damage comes from the fire dot, which most ashlands mobs are resistant or immune to. That's why it seems underwhelming there.
It works much better against enemies without that resistance. So something to carry for farming runs for now and keeping up your sleeve in preparation for deep north.
My theory is staff of fracturing was supposed to be the lightning since they showed concept art of the staff and it was lightning. I think dundr was supposed ton another blood magic since it takes a blood stone. Probably just ideas that didnβt work and were turned into what we got
Probably pretty good against seekers tbh
even outside of the ashlands the ember staff just seems better. ember staff better imo, fracturing better against the soldiers though
it is good against seekers. Though dundr oneshots seekers so...
Yeah I donβt understand the staff of fracturing at all. Feels very weak
(seeker soldier that is)
is there some spreadsheet with all ashlands recipes with upgrades in one place?
Honestly a fire lightning combo for fracturing would be sick
or at least armor recipes
you can check the wiki, but its so new that it might not be completed yet
spazzy games has a video that shows custom spreadsheets
yep wiki is not updated yet, thats why im asking here
If by sick you mean "OP as hell", yeah π Remember that lightning damage staggers. It would be broken AF.
staff of fracturing has less range, worse trajectory, less splash.... it does seem to damage more rock type things and can be good for sniping monuments
You don't want it to splash, you want all fragments to hit the same target.
could be a channel for a couple seconds, like a heavy staff (sword). Like how krom and the hammers have longer windups - make a staff that has an immobilizing channel
the fragments are virtually splash
compare fragment damage to burn damage over time... i dont think its very compelling in most cases
well staffs are all lacking a secondary attack atm...
esp with the range reduction
you can get triple-digit burn damage ticks with the staff of fracturing on seeker soldiers.
yeah, a channel like that would balance it imo, since mages rely on mobility to not die instantly
thanks! exactly what i need
yeah, it really only seems better than the staff of embers against soldiers, against everything else it seems meh
It oneshots almost everything else pre-Ashlands
though to be fair so do most magic weapons
not on hard mode
embers kinda struggle to kill stuff in mistlands, if you're going for a single target you might just end up spending all your etir just to kill the target barely
but that's what the AoE is for
that sounds like a skill issue. Elemental skill, not player skill i mean. Once you get a few levels in elemental magic it absolutely murders everything in the Mistlands except gjall (it kills those too but not efficiently).
huh? what game are you playing, or do you mean ashlands
wtf. I just saw lighting streak through the sky
you can like 2-3 hit seekers with lvl 30+ ele on hard mode, if you let the fire DOT ticks hit
thats the opposite of struggling
True but hard mode is explicitly not balanced and vanilla is generally the default assumption unless mentioned otherwise.
yeah im just playing on hard so thats my reference for everything rn
Is Ashlands offically released yet?
ye it's out
Mate, you're kinda a week too late with that question.
#news message
Deep north when?
2034
is hard really not balanced? its frustrating to play but a lot of it feels like poor design mechanics/interactions and not balancing
Sorry already was playing PTE. Got side tracked at work
you're not going to see 30+ in Mistland since you just unlocked elemental magic, that argument is invalid...
No, it's literally not balanced in the sense that they basically put in some damage and speed multipliers and called it a day.
You might if everything takes more hits to kill (idk I havenβt played hard)
? I easily reach elemental magic 45 before I fight the queen
Does anyone have a mod recommendation to automate the oven/cooking? Auto pull from nearby container and then pull out food when its cooked?
it really doesnt take that long to level it to 30 and ive been rocking it at around 30 in my playthrough so idk why youd say that lol
There is no playtesting or balance adjustment for hard mode, everything gets balanced for vanilla
that makes sense, ashlands is absolutely busted on hard
Busted how?
elemental magic leves fast if you're playing pure mage though.
frustratingly impossible. thinks will walk under water and shoot at you from underwater. which everything 1 or 2 hits you. higher star mob spawns too. more stuff spawns. it just destroys all of your stuff and kills you hundreds of times
i had somewhere around 40 elemental skill when i killed the queen
I am playing pure mage and it still doesn't level up all that fast. Finally reached 30 during queen
We can spam magic yes?
So real no way to track if ppl are hanging out in the mountians or swamp way to long.
Well off to make a sun dial. Will help a ton
drawing distance is further in the corners fo my screen than in the center.. if I look straight at something i see less far than if i look "with the corner of my eye"
were you playing in Mistlands with no access to Ashland? No way you get 45 playing normally unless to stick around way longer than necessary or grind it
some people like to train things π€·ββοΈ or not just focus on the main obj all the time
In multiplayer progression can be much slower so youβd get more skills
that depends on how you define "longer than necessary". Does that start the moment you have all the sealbreaker fragments and black cores you need? Once you have maxed all Mistland gear? Once you've build a giant black marble castle?
done all that and then some kind of longer than necessary
that got me to 40
got me 30. Even stuck around a bit longer than I needed to
We talking modded or no mods?
no mods for me
Sorry I see this conversation going south fast with QOL mods.
There's also a separate channel for modded Valheim
there's too many freaking mobs in the ashlands. it's wild
π€·ββοΈ dunno what to say, i just play the game at my pace and i get to 40-45 easily (most of my playthroughs are 300-350 days long with half of it being building)
meanwhile mine is at 680, not exactly rushing around.

Do you guys think a pacifist run would be possible with friends? I'd like to try in a vanilla game a run where I do not kill a single thing, just defend myself and my friends from it but im not sure if it's possible and also is it still a pacifist run if I harvest domesticated animals?
