i wouldn't expect a boss, but maybe 1 or 2 new mobs that circulate further out towards worlds edge, maybe a new passive species or 2/tameable, a few new weapon options that would probably be sidegrades, and a few more food options

then the aims of giving it more life while having minimal impact on lower players and the early game and not affecting balance too much would be hit

Slash and blunt are good damage types to have in the swamps

A mace will make your time in the swamp much more pleasant. The only melee weapon I would not recommend is the spear. Atgeir can be hard to use but it worked out for me in swamp where it could be used.

If you have standard raids enabled, skipping the first boss (eikthr) will likely keep the "standard" raid as "eikthr rallies the forest" like you mentioned. But if it is "player based raids" that's is a different story.

Other than cheating to find crypts, you can also bring along a stagbreaker and pound the ground (prospect). If you see "to hard" there is likely a muddy scrap pile(iron deposit) below.

That's a question we can't answer as it depends a bit at your play style.
But you may consider to get the bronze mace as that one is good against skellies, while you can deal with most other creatures using a (bronze) axe.
Some may advise you to take the mace and sword, others would advice you to take the mace and atgeir; while third parties would reccommend the atgeir only because of its AoE.
So it's all up to what you prefer to fight with.

do I remember right that people say finding a fuling village on the transition to a swamp can be a good thing since the fulings and the swamp creatures will fight each other and you can pick up the goods? or do I have the biomes or something wrong

Nope, you're correct.
Usually the fullings win, so there's lots of entrails, bones and the occasional ooze, blood bags and trophies to be found. As well as some black metal sometimes.

It still can be beneficial when you're moving to the plains because some of the drops will come in handy simply due to the food you can create with it.

Generally mobs from different biomes will fight each other. There's a few exceptions though

Sometimes mobs in the same biome will attack each other too, like skellies and greydwarves!

If he's a lot larger as the common ones, you're looking at a Beserker.
Those hit like a truck, but you could consider them a bit like the trolls of the plains.

Still, better to deal with him from a distance, so either bow or an atgeir will be a good choice.

I'm a little confused about using workbenches to suppress spawns. I don't normally use them for that purpose but I'm abuot to fight moder and read a guide saying it's a good idea to put a bunch of workbenches around so you don't have to deal with stone golems, drakes, etc. during the fight. I've been trying to do that, building benches really densely at the spot, but stone golems are still spawning continuously very close to the workbenches. Is there something I'm not understanding about this mechanic?

They’re probably just spawning nearby and walking over. Nothing can spawn within the white circle around the workbench

I recommend using campfires instead though. Campfires suppress spawns in the same range but they don’t draw mob Agro (workbenches do). Campfires won’t show the white circle though which is annoying, but they work the same

Specifically for golems though I think only one can spawn nearby. So if you dig a hole and push a golem into it (leave it alive), no others will ever spawn nearby and that one will be harmless stuck in a hole

Correct, as long as you don't explore ashlands, you are good to go.
Even if you explore some ashlands that isn't such a big deal, new ashland island will be created and the old ones shouldn't detract from the new ones, though better not explore too much.

I couldn’t have gotten a luckier start in my run

So it’s immersive with portals but no metals

And I accidentally glitched it by starting without immersive and using the eikthyr location stone and then when I switched to immersive none of the locator stones now face me in the direction of the boss it just says added to my map which is nonexistent

But I managed to by sheer luck stumble upon the eikthyr altar

To then go mining in the Black Forest and find the elder altar

To then cross the ocean from spawn island, immediately run into Haldor, and further down the coast I’ve got a nice swamp with the bone mass altar right on the edge

My goal now is to build a base at Haldor, and make a long path along the slither of Black Forest I have between the ocean and mountain that leads straight to my swamp

And then it’s Iron Age time and an easy cart trip straight back to my new base

Turnips aren't actually super rare, they're just often really hard to see. I've found them in sections of swamps that I've run through tens of times.
