Yeah that would suck. Not sure how applicable to your situation, but theoretically you could roll back to saves you had before you explored Ashland's?

Who knows maybe there is also some file manipulation you could do yourself. I feel like world generation and build structures are different files. So maybe you could have the world regen like nothing was explored and then overlay player structures? Idk haha, haven't looked into it much, but also dont have a 3 year server. Nor am I software developer so this is all conjecture.

First time I entered Mistlands I died horribly not 50 meters in, now I run around not caring much (although a two-star soldier with gjall air support was enough to break a sweat...). I expect Ashlands to be similar in experience - flattened and humiliated at first, but once I learn and adapt - and get some better stuff - I'll manage.

First time I met mistlands I was much less afraid than I should have been but I think it saved me and my buddy’s life.

We sailed up to the coast of mistlands and immediately got our boat semi stuck as a Gjall came blaring out of the mist. I took its Agro and ran deep into the mist while my friend casually got our boat unstuck, chatted with a dvergr, and took out a little seeker. Then when I came back he blamed me for leaving him alone with the seeker (not acknowledging me getting the Gjall off his back and having to dodge through a monster infested biome with no visibility)

First time I fought Moder she got stuck in a tree and we could just stand shooting arrows at her without even moving. All other times have been awesome boss fights

Well, I've found a nice "safe" spot in the Mistlands close to the Ashlands and going to log out there.
My first experience with the Ashlands isn't exactly positive, so I'm going to think things over before continuing playing the PTB with this character.

I've played it up to the point where "bunny hopping spray and pray" became the standard in those game.
Went to better games after that, but I do occasionally still play the single player of the games I got.
Some of the missions I played in those games remind me at the landing in Ashland. Except that the latter is worse from what I've seen and done.

I'll leave it to that, as there's a lot more info to be found in the test channels.

you need "chop" and "pickaxe" damage to hurt trees and rocks/metals

Axes have chop damage that affects their tree damage. It doesnt use slash for trees

This is why you see grey numbers when you chop trees btw

After a certain point, your slash damage is higher than your chopping damage, so because the tree only receives the lower damage number, it shows as if it's resisting your attack

Always make a backup of old characters if you want to play on PTB with them. Shouldn't be a problem, but it's 5 seconds to save that charecter incase something does happen.

I have over 2000 hours in soul likes games as I said and thousands in other "hard" games, this is not difficult at all, it's just that they keep throwing meatwaves at you over and over again until you don't have bonemass and all your potions are on cooldown then there is nothing you can do

Actually, mining copper is slow and tedious, early swamp REEKS, mountains are okay, silver is a little annoying, plains involves a lot of kiting and less slaying, mistlands is mistlands, and ashlands is a biome, i think

the game progression is tough but i feel the hardest part for me is finding the stones that tell you boss locations. going threw 5-8 crypts or old towers and what not befor finding one is a pain.

You NEED Moder's tear, you can skip Elder if you glitch into crypts, you can skip Bonemass if you have a lot of time to spare hitting rocks with hammers, and you can skip Eikthyr with a troll

Watching a streamer play this and looks damn near impossible with the amount of enemies in the Ashlands. Also why does the wet effect last forever in the Ashlands? You should dry off faster in that environment just like if you were near a fire.

Can log into your old world.

If you haven't explored the Ashlands before, the terrain will generate without any problem.
If you did explore a small part of the Ashlands, the terrain may not generate completely in that part, but anything not discovered will generate as intended.
If you explored all....... well either use a mod to restore it to what it's s'posed to be, or start a new world.

Also, the area generation disconnected it from any previous connecting biomes.
If you've build to close to it to have a "forward base", it could be it will be destroyed.

And finally, there's a bug with portals in the PTB right now.
To deal with that one, log out and then relog into your game again and it should work fine.

You can of course start a new world with an older character, if you don’t want to play through the whole game again before being able to conquer the Ashlands.

Additionally, the Ashlands update features some significant changes to the terrain generation around the Ashlands. The Ashlands will only be accessible by ship, and the terrain around it has been lowered and turned to ocean. This also affects any buildings you might have in that area – if they are built on terrain that gets altered, they will collapse. The images below illustrate what happens to a spawned location versus what happens to a player built structure. As you can see, even if the spawned building remains intact, it will be rather difficult to reach it, as the terrain around it is vastly lower.

I think that's obvious enough though.

Only died once, and that's mostly because I forgot to use Bonemass and was running low on potions 😛 Got her about 80% down using a mage build, then finished her off with a tanky carapace armor and mistwalker build

Lol I had a pretty similar experince- I also died once. I didn’t realize how large the arena was- I didn’t see the stairs leading up… so I fought her the entire time on that first level. Used a ton of different weapons, mainly the mistwalker. It lasted quite a bit longer than most other boss fights, used way more potions than I thought I would lol

Doh. Yeah, I knew there were stairs so I just spent the whole time running in circles around the top platforms flinging fireballs. I also let my lingering stamina and poison resistances time out and that didn't help.

I do have one central staircase to get to the walkway and the towers.
So at least I'm able to get there to defend the base against anything flying (bats and drakes for now).
But given I've rebuild a lot already - and will have to for the Ashlands items once they become available - I'm not really looking forward to it.

But then, I guess you're right. It may make things a bit easier if there are wooden ladders inside the tower, just to replace them for the staircases later.

The biome has always been there.

Oh, no, that should be fine. Any disappearing issues I've seen have been with people playing on the PTB with a character or world and then rolling back to the mainline release and being confused as to why things were missing. Backwards compatibility is not a thing 😉

But I have read somewhere that someone took a Lox for a swim and got pretty far before the stamina ran out.
So it may be possible to "swim" across a strait if it isn't too large, ride slowly until the Lox has regained full stamina and swim a short strait again after that.

The only possible bug would be when you enter and build something in the current non-ptb Ashland, as the Dev's have stated that they will change the biome in that way it's surrounded completely by water.
Which means, anything build there and on nearby land may end up being without support and getting destroyed completely.

Therefore, as long as you stay away from the southern part of the map and in particular from the Ashlands you will be doing fine.

IF you decide to join the PTB and build there, there is a chance things may change (a little), which "might" have it's effect on any building you put down there.

But while I do have the PTB, I haven't been to the point where I can build something over there, so I won't be able to judge that.

Mistlands took 2-3 weeks in PTB. Ashlands PTB may be longer or shorter; depending at the amount of bugs the players find and how hard it is to solve them and testing things again.

But we got confirmation from Smiffe a while ago that the Ashlands biome will be released before the end of the first half of 2024. So that's June 30th the last.

That's all I can say about it right now, as anything else will be pure speculation.

They swim after your boat in case they've jumped overboard and were set to "follow".
Disadvantage, you will need to paddle the entire trip, so crossing an ocean may be tricky.
You will also have to stop every once in a while to let them close the gap between you and the animal(s); otherwise they remain at the spot where the distance became too large.

You can use previous biome gear yea, but once you get gear from the new biome those weapons default stats tend to be stronger. Also I believe magic and crossbow have higher default values than other gear as you are expected to have much lower skill in them than other weapons. That might not make up the whole difference but it helps, and it means magic weapons may get stronger than regular ones at max level

Magic also takes a ranged approach which is generally a lot more forgiving. Ranged weapons are kinda busted imo
The shield can also be helpful because it’ll let you tank stuff regular armor never would
