I have a friend that is not a huge fan of survival games but then we played VRising together and he was like complaining how grindy getting resources is so I was like "Let's raise the rates" to which he's like "Yeah but then it's like cheating", which is a weird perspective to have.

The most important part of playing a game with friends or solo is to enjoy the game. For example, if portal restrictions off removes enough tedium to make it enjoyable, that's more important than following the vanilla purist experience.

I was exactly like this on my first run and I had to force myself through it. I wanted to build things and do all the things but eventually just beat yag and left it there (back when yag was the end)
this time round, with modifiers and stuff I'm having a much better time. I have less time to play so I have less time to scrounge for resources, so rate goes up. I can't be spending an hour ferrying every single metal run back to my base so portals are fully open
the game, while not the vanilla experience, is much more enjoyable for me because of it. i enjoyed the base game, I did, but i'm having even more fun now that I can enjoy it at my pace and keep my attention focussed on it

It's generally more nuanced than that. Players might want to progress at the same pace, but the portals will start to create a large disparity for it. At which point, players need to decide to cater one side or the other, or not play together.

When push comes to shove, it makes the most sense to cater to a more casual experience if your friend[s] don't want/can't play more hardcore as they will simply just not play. If you like the game enough to play it full vanilla, you'd like it enough to play it more streamlined for the sake of playing with friends

I think it'd be true for all sides that if they can't find the experience they want in a given party, the best bet is to move to a different party. If the people you're playing with are friends first and fellow vikings second, it's more complex, but I wouldn't advise putting a game before the ones you love. Weirdly personal tangent but I've done that and it ended quite badly, and wasn't worth it. Like dropping a full stack of iron to pick up a couple bone fragments, the iron is rare and hard to find, but there will always be more bone fragments.

It would be really amazing to have either a button in the settings menu in game (esc) or just a console command for that. Or it could be added to the “hide UI” toggle where it would toggle through an extra state that just hides mini map before hiding everything. Then my friends who like the map can have the option to use it when they freak out and I can keep playing with no map. Everyone is happy….just one request from one player out of 12,000,000. But I was trying to think of ways to compromise with my buddies who are not enjoying my no map needs 😂.

If they add this new ship in the trailer.'s thumbnail.. which we might even see in the trailer, I wonder if it's going to be a requirement to reach Ashlands, or just make it easier? That might explain why they're completely separating it from rest of the world by adding an ocean around it everywhere, so no more land connection.

I don't see how they could lock the biome behind a ship. If they add the ship in the thumbnail, it will probably be the most durable one and thus the best to endure the ocean's wrath around Ashlands. May even be the fastest.

I don't think 60m is doable even with iron. It caps out at 42m horizontally iirc. It might be barely doable with a low bridge but one that's high enough to let a longboat through? I doubt it.

So if you build it from one side, then start at the other side and work your way towards the first part, it should work.

One (upgraded as much as i can). When the durability runs out i just skip back through a portal to repair, chances are i have to eat again, refresh my rested buff and drop off loot anyway.
It's also one of the first things i upgrade once i get to a new tier of metal since i know i want to build and upgrade everything anyway, so going for the upgrade that speeds up mining first just makes sense.

They would just reuse the same seed I would think. We would see identical worlds for different seeds with the same base otherwise. They might salt the seed for the POI generation though, which would make them unique within the same seed? Haven't fully delved into that though.

How about a "no tree cutting" challenge?

You can only using the fallen branches and cut those stumps and fallen logs you find all over the place.

Makes it quite hard to get the core wood and fine wood for the rest of your playthrough.

Just curious. What is it that makes this game so popular? Graphically it looks horrible. I been playing the new ark survival ascended and it looks great. But once you have to start taming dinosours i kinda lose interest. Taking care of tames just takes to much time. Also, taming would require about 30 minutes for an animal.
All animals are "sexeless", meaning that you don't have to focus at looking for a (fe)male one if you already have one of the other sexes.
That also means you need to breed 2x30 minutes - depends a bit at how close you remain to them while taming - to get your breeding pair.

Funny thing - for me, anyway - I did two fights within one game-day.
usually I had to spend the night in a nearby crypt to avoid wraiths being attracted to it and making that fight even harder.

Having a lvl 4 iron mace, a lvl 3 banded shield and a full stack of stamina, health and poison resist mead; as well as fully upgraded root outfit helps for sure.
The first time I did that fight it was with low level iron gear.
I prefer this way a lot better; eventhough I faced him while standing on top of a sunken crypt. 🙂

There are multiple options, but here are two:

  1. Go ranged with a max lvl bow and fire arrows, move from one pillar to the other to keep those between you and The Elder.
    For melee, use axe / sword. If you got the time to build them; build a few campfires and lure him over that.

  2. If there's enough room available, you could dig out a room under the altar and use the entrance trench to dodge the roots he's shooting at you.
    The fire in the center of the altar will work downwards as well, giving you a slight rested bonus when you stay in that room.

Nah. But I've been using that trench / room under the altar "trick" a few times and it works very well.
Plus, the Elder is vunerable to fire, so adding some to the fight works very well too.

Just wander in circles around the Elder altar.
You will most likely encounter a nest or a shaman sooner or later.
Shaman's can often be found near a nest, but also by the tower / house ruins

Use root chest to deal with seekers & ticks, ooze bombs to clear infested mines for black cores and you should be fine going in with mountain gear.

Just look for carrot seeds, thistle and mushrooms as they will be a part of your diet.
If you have a beehive, keep harvesting those.
Try to tame two boars (2 stars whenever possible, but 1 stars will be nice too), so you got a way to gather boar meat.
You will need neck tails and deer meat as well, so hunt those when you can.

What I found is that a full stack (10 pieces) of two Black Forest foods will require 40 carrots.
One carrot gives three seeds, so before even making food, make sure you have 20 carrots to plant at all times.
With those 60 seeds you will be able to keep a full (40 / 20) cycle of carrots for food and carrots for seeds going.
Eventually you can use the carrots to feed your boars, so you can breed those.

You will need Carrot soup (or queens jam), deer stew and mince meat sauce to have enough health and stamina to survive in the black forest. And in particular to fight the Elder.

And yes, you will need to farm. But other as planting, letting it grow and harvest there isn't that much to do.

If you’re too far from the elder, he will use a strong ranged attack. His summoning altar has indestructible pillars, so hiding behind these avoids all the projectiles.

I just discovered today that if you draw your bow while crouching you can dodge roll while keeping the shot charged. I haven’t tested this on controller yet, though. (if anyone else can right now, could you do this?).

Im using obsidian arrows and yeah I'm on normal mode. Everything else has been a breeze so far. Again it's easy enough to survive her but at this rate she won't die by nightfall and mobs respawn like stone golems and wolves

She's kind of bugged or something so when she lands and I'm out of range she just sits there and doesn't do anything, I use that opportunity to shower her with arrows. You think I should just suck it up and run up to her and stab her?
