I'm still very afraid of those even with mistlands gear...
You gotta rush them
does the AI scale with the amount of players you have?
As in enemy spawn count..??
count and difficultly
It does up to a point, right?
The mobs get a bit more apparent health.
🤔
I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter
They do upscale
Ok fine 😦
so just health
Weak point is underneath them
crazy how irl ocean is more empty, it's just water 😀
Yeah but it takes like 20 shots with the arbalest if I use the cheaper arrows 😦
*bolts
use better arrows 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Just be careful attacking under there or you’ll get really ticked off
*bolts
Arbalest sucks imo
I dunno, it’s alright for what it is
It's cheap!
I was so disappointed when I first got it
cheap isn't good 🗣️
I don't have the wands yet
How about after upgrading?
needing to load it every time you pull it out sucks tbh
and 20000 tonnes of crude oil.
Um I had extra roots laying around so...
Stamina penalty for arbalest…?
It uses a lot of stam
OIL? 🦅🦅🦅🦅🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥‼️‼️‼️‼️
I thought it just stops the loading process when you try to use stamina
Not actually using stamina for loading
You also don't regen stamina when reloading
I… thought it did…?
I didn’t like the reload cancel, but I never had to worry about stamina regen
Uses like 3 I think...? 1 stamina/s for 3.5 seconds on the wiki
Ok idk what I'm talking abt how do I run out of stamina then...
Whoa. I never even noticed that
We’re talking about the arbalest and not the bonesnap bow, right?
Yes the crossbow thingy
Huh… 🤔 Well I guess I’ll have to pay closer attention next time I use it
bonesnap bow👀👀👀 when can I get that
I just saw it as a strategic trade-off… load while in temporary safety, then run and shoot quick
Same biome level as crossbow ☺️
There might be something more you need to discover if it hasn’t unlocked yet
Or just check around in the crafting stations in case you missed it — I can’t remember which one it was rn
Oh. Spinesnap?
ok I'll look
Don't craft it, pretty sure it does spirit damage, poison from the fang is so much nicer
Can’t remember the name right either haha
Black forge
I’d say that depends on the monster you’re shooting, and it seems like a big hint at future necessity too
Swamp mobs die faster from spirit, and it seems like Ashlands stuff will be more in that vein
Oh right... won't there be like skeletons and stuff? Mb maybe you should craft it...
Mistlands monsters… I guess you’d have to try it out to see for sure. I heard some of the bugs don’t take much physical damage, so it might help
Only ghosts and wraiths.
❌❌❌
Draugrs, skeletons
slimes too? I think
Ah that makes sense… but… I thought I saw draugrs take more damage over time after getting hit with silver stuff…
Nope, afaik
86% sure it affects slimes too
No, just wraiths and ghosts.
It looks empty, but beneath it’s another world 😆
@sharp halo Give it a rest with the emojis.
idk man most of its empty
use the block button 👍🏼
Um wiki (again) says they dont
might be a mod I have
Derek writes the wiki, I'd trust him :3
Not JUST me.
I KNOW but I like flexing you
In what way?
🤔
the bees are happy
they may be. but I am not
My friends lied to me and said they could also be unhappy back when I started playing
Nobody told me why they would be upset, so I just didn't build beehives
The bees are sad 😔 even fewer left irl than in the meadows now
I'm happy if the bees are happy, you should be too
damn 😔 how can I make the bees happy again 😔
Lead enemies into them, theyre begging for blood
by going to #rules-and-info. read it again while you think about how you post messages to other users
it looks empty, but it is quite happening under water. I realise this after I sign up for diving classes.
You and me both. That sound gives me chills.
Mostly you though.
I mean, you'd have to count the contributions. I'm just louder about it in the Discord.
There's at least one contributer that isn't even on the server.
It does a tiny amount of spirit damage... and also more pierce than the pierce & poison from the draugr fang put together.
Gasp
Don't worry, bee happy, bzz bzz bzz bzz bzz bzz bzz bzz bzz bzz bzz bzz.
Stop replying to old messages mane
What types of contribution can I contribute?
Anything from spelling corrections to new pages.
My mane needs some cutting.
I'm trying to catch up.
Wiki pages?
Um doesn't it use less stamina though?
That's basically increased fire rate!
I checked and spinesnap does far more pierce damage than draugr fang. That alone is a huge plus due to how poison works
only small portion of it is in spirit damage
Oh I see, it only seemed like it didn’t use stamina because it used so little and I was only trying to avoid overusing stamina at the time, not checking whether it was going up or down for that three seconds
Thx man! I didn't know, some1 gave me bad advice ig
We can't say it is about ranged weapons because else we need to throw the spear into the mix.
Test it out and play with the one you like, like the poison and less stamina used go with the fang, if you want more pierce and also more stamina use go for the snap.
I just got enough black cores for an eitr thingy, will try it out soon
Draugr fang at max does 56 pierce and 20 poison, for total of 76
Spine at level 3 does 80 pierce and 15 spirit. Once we get level 4 for it, it will be 84 pierce and 20 spirit
poison on paper sounds nice... but it doesn't stack. The higher fire rate (bow skill) your bow has the more poison sucks ass
Sadly it doesn't work like fire yeah.
hmm... oh! lightning damage causes extra staggering? damn that is nice
also bonus damage against wet enemies like cold
no wonder there haven't been weapons with lightning damage until now
can you get raided before killing 1st boss?
yes, but it's basically just free food donation
Yes, by necks and boars.
it's possible to turn off raids if you do not wish to deal with them, or later turn them back on again
nah its not needed.
Is tower shield and spear a good combo?
a shield capable of parrying would be even better combo
Am exploring infested mine with mountains gear, seekers scary as fk
parrying takes some practice, but it uses the same timing as dodge invincibility frame, so that would be very useful skill no matter what you decide to do later in the game
Himminafl + a shallow moat or puddle is OP as hell
Technically but as said below, parrying + spear is much more powerful
Spears are probably the way they are for parrying only
They can destroy many staggered enemies
dont you mean atgeir?
Bonemass ability is way too op, am clearing infested mine in silver age
You can't parry as effectively with Atgeir. And the secondary only staggers slightly.
Parrying from blocking is more effective
Spear + parry works extremely well.
(against single targets)
because spear has very fast attack speed and low sta cost.
so it would be the same with a knife
Although didnt quite finish it, with 3 1 star seeker in one room and bonemass ability running out
But got 5 black cores
yes, knifes are good too. They do slash/pierce instead of pure pierce though.
Because spear's attack is always uniform, it always deal roughly the same dmg and doesn't need a combo, so you're essentially always dealing the same damage against the target without needing to time attacks (for other combo weapons the third attack deals increased damage).
There's also the matter of fast attack speed, might be inaccurate af by this alone is a nice bonus
i just started a new playthrough with some friends and we banned the bow, so trying to find a new playstyle
During the staggering animation you can deal several attacks with the spear due to attack speed alone, for many enemies this would be enough to outright kill them
It depends on the enemy and how long they're staggered. If you have time to get in a sword or mace secondary that's great, but some enemies (like wolves) aren't staggered that long and may get out of stagger before your attack finishes unless your timing is perfect.
I remember destroying lox with fang spear + black metal shield combo during earliest days
Knife secondary is also really good against staggered enemies
That's why I implied is not for all enemies.
Also, wolves' staggering is actually longer than most other enemies.
An atgeir's secondary on them is pretty much the same duration as a block parry for most other enemies. A block parry on them is their death sentence
too bad the tower shield is so bad vs parry
spear is also pretty decent ranged weapon if bows are no go. they are cheapest melee weapons from what I remember
Huh weird, it feels shorter to me.
The serpent scale shield is actually really good all the way into Mistlands, but that's mostly because of the pierce resist.
Animation cancellation jump OR block/roll + sword power strike = OP - nothing can hit you while your power striking you become invincible 🙂
Yeah, and then you're out of stam. Definitely not a tactic for group fights.
Yeah i see, gonna be rough to kill serpent without bow tho, i guess
You can still use a harpoon to drag it to land, then spear it? You need to kill it on land anyway for the scales
Might need a sta mead so it doesn't get away before you kill it though
Acutally it works well the block/roll combo uses no stamina, your only using the power strike which almost always 1 shots an equal level mob.
So you just kyte them ,and keep doing that, you can take out mobs endlessly.
Spear throw seems to drop alot, does this get better just as the bow does?
hmm, I've never noticed an aim deficiency with spears, though I don't usually use them after the dark forest.
Not really. You'll never get the range of a bow with a spear, it's more of a medium-range weapon when thrown.
I should have waited for ashlands to make a new world, made a new one on Friday and I am already in mistlands, now I have to put the playthrough on ice
I won't give up, no, I won't give in, 'Til I reach the end, and then I'll start again?
dont wanna do another new world so "soon" (assuming the update drops in the next month or so)
Just make a new world with different purposes/rules
Different purpose??? this is valheim not minecraft
No portals, no map, easy cheesy, brutally hard that you'll have nightmares about it, take your pick with the world settings it is all possible.
yeah thats not a different purpose, at most its grindier, which is not my idea of fun
Less grindy if you haven't put the world modifiers for drops to the max yet.
Huge consequences when dumb stuff kills you just means you have to play safer which is less fun, but its not really harder
Build something big.
There's also nothing wrong with just waiting and playing something else in the meantime.
You can stop giving me recommendations, thats not how I enjoy the game
exactly what I said
They were just trying to be helpful. Sometimes a new or different challenge can be fun.
Play the game how and when you want.
Just saying you can make a new world.
I'm waiting till ashland drops to start a new world.
sure, I was just saying in the most polite way I know, that I wasnt looking for valheim challenge ideas
well that's exactly what happens when you speedrun through the game... started nearly 1 month ago and I'm still working daily to bring my saves ready for Ashlands, part of preparations being a proper good base
what do you need to prepare for? just walk in there, with the latest food and gear and you are good, maybe make a couple heat potions but I bet theres armor for that effect and I still have 4 left from yag
do you not do anything else than smash things, collect the loot, make barely good enough gear and move on?
I usually create a new base in every biome
sometimes I dont need to if the next biome and boss are close, like usually I can skip a black forest base
I'm just going to full play through the game with fire on
Because we can't possibly know if other content comes that changes the flow of the game, also I will run out of content faster if I jump straight to Ashland's. Might as well make a 1-2 week grind out of it
It was an idea, you don't have to follow it.
The point is you can configure it to whatever you want to make it more different
I started a new world where skill gain rates are x10 higher but I lose all levels on death
I lose skill progress but also level up a skill pretty much every minute for a while, it is drastically different from what I'm used to
if you're not into farming and building, you can very quickly burn out on valheim
On my next playthrough I might buff the xp rates, that sounds cool. I think recently I have been playing with 3x resources and no tp restrictions.
but then again, nothing wrong with playing other games while you recover from that
that's exactly what I do
and then a sudden batch of toys drops on your sandbox, and you're good to go for months in a row with all the new possibilities
There isn't a problem with playing other games. There is a problem however, with people complaining there's nothing to do in game when they choose to ignore certain content.
I think that is just misalignment of interests and it should be obvious to people that it means their playing a game a bit out of their comfort zone for the components that they enjoy
On the other hand, people will claim things are content and suggest to do those things for the pure sake of fighting the "where's more content" questions
It's also no map, no portal but normal difficulty and 3x resources but no work bench as well.
No work bench part helps a lot with no map to build indicators in the wild
I'm fearful of how difficult finding the bosses will be
If I feel inspired I may do a full vanilla at some point, maybe ashlands, but the no map is hardcore
No workbench is cool, although things don'e render too far away so it would have limited use I think
There's crap ton of things to do in this game, but it's 100% you problem if you decide to do none of that.
565 hours in the game, 70 hours last 2 weeks alone. And highly doubt another 100 or 200 hours would be enough to do "everything"
I usually just find an ruined structure and repair it with minimal effort and use it as a temporary base 💀
Creating bases as a solo player is kinda unrewarding and time consuming
I keep (and will always keep) saying that replayability comes a lot more from the player that the game.
In theory, literally no other game offers replayability as there will be a time where you'd get to experience every bit of content no matter what you do.
Whether the player continues playing after this or not is decided by the player themselves, not much else
difference being a game like Valheim allows you to have vastly different experiences even after hundreds of hours, meanwhile most games offers you the same exact experience over and over again
Tbf you can probably beat the game easily within 100hrs without using glitches or any speedrunning strategies
you can, much faster if you do not mind using scuffed gear a lot
Silver gear is good enough to clear pretty much any content in the game currently
With bonemass buff any scuffed armour you have can withstand pretty much any phsyical attacks
(for five minutes)
I mean 5 mins is usually way more than enough to end any normal fights, including raiding villages, or gets you out of any trouble
Thankyou for demonstrating my point. There is a lot of 'content' but we all know that you get diminishing returns out of a game's content, otherwise we would have stopped making games at Minecraft. Content is also subjective and while many things are fun, the core content flow is progressing though the biomes and beating the bosses.
Building x size base or building y amount of bases is where the content starts branching off from core progression, most players will do that but they won't necessarily get extremely deep into it as it yields diminishing returns. Then they go back to main progression, maybe go down a farming branch and the return back to main progression. You run out of content eventually.
Some people can play the game for 8hrs a day indefinitely, some people just want to soak up all the content over a 2week binge 1-2 times a year because they get bored
with that logic might as well just watch some youtube videos on how to kill the ender dragon the speedrun strat way, do it and say I've beat the game, where's the new content.
Any time there's new content I am happy lol, the fact is that content don't just magically appears out of thin air, and complaining and being impatient certainly wouldn't make it better
What are you even talking about?
Like it's totally fine if you take breaks from the game lol
Everyone knows that iron gate is a small development team and content are slow, while I do want more, there's legit nothing you can do
it's not even that slow compared to some certain games that got bigger team and suddenly got even slower updates
That's good, and people do take breaks, and people like this game but are not satisfied with squeezing content out of it because building doesn't itch the same scratch as exploring a fresh biome with a plethora of new items. That new game is experience is one of the best dopamine rushes you can get in gaming. Diving into the unknown
Development certainly isn't slow.
My point is that it's also bad to be overly complacent and tell others why they should or shouldn't be. Content is subjective. I also don't think people asking for content in this game is bad, it's just really annoying, especially if you live in the server
Regardless of the pace, it's quality content. I'm sure ashlands will be worth the wait despite being in development for over a year
It is quite slow, but you can always list games with a worse example. Slow or fast there's always going to be a demand for more content, and the best thing you can do is just be patient lol
asking for it when it's already coming, constantly every single day and whining... that gets annoying really quickly
They went big for mistlands and seem to be going even bigger for ashlands
I think the develop times are comparable. As much as we can know them.
Fr the lightning weapons looks amazing
I'm very glad they do things at the pace they feel comfortable with rather than listening to the vast whining minority that keeps complaining and release stuff unfinished and rushed
I've seen good number of games in early stages and the time it took for them to add sstuff, there's very few that update significantly faster than Valheim, and even those games are rather simple games that do not take nearly as much effort to add new content
Everyone is so weirdly obsessed with comparing development times to other games
that would be because it's relevant... it won't go faster if you say it's slow
When did I say it was slow?
or tell them to be faster, just being unreasonable
Huh?
not you specifically saying it
It was Yuuki, you're complaining at the wrong person.
not even complaining at him. "you" as in "a person", nobody specific
Let's all remember there are two games out there that have been in ea for more than a decade...
Peoples opinion on the speed is subjective so it's a losing argument. You can pull statistics from all the games you want and chose the stats that fit the narrative
opinion on speed is subjective, but the actual speed is far from subjective
Even if IG took more than five years to release valheim fully, it would still be a lot better than other games
Ashlands is going to be so good, I can feel it.
You can qualify the speed in both directions if you pick your evidence right
You are sitting too close to the fire again.
Need to get that rested buff faster
Sitting too close could give you the rested buff forevermore.
I see you have met my chickens...
Build fires everywhere so you never lose rested
Hides the chicken bones
Yes it was their fault, I would never spit roast a chicken.
Anyone need a hand today? Eastern time zone, xbox player, helpful in any regards. I will be available for the next 14 hours today. Yall may message me directly if you'd like.
Heya, #1024264966712340510 would be the best place to post message like these for visibility. Most folk needing another player will be looking there first~
I have responded to many people with no immediate attention. Days have passed. Just looking for active people on the server as of now. Thank you though.
I'd suggest joining one of those big modded servers
i didnt know valhiem becomes a horror game
Play without sound or wisps in the mistlands
burning down the forest might actually be the most efficient way of clearing it for a build xD
like in fairy tales
it's exactly as it says on the tin "brutal survival game"
and you'd expect the final levels of any game to be the toughest
The crouch key should be fly down, so whatever you bind that to ought to carry over.
it feels very much to me like a modern day, viking re-imagining of Faxanadu, which was a classic NES platformer
and although i wouldn't class either as horror, i'd say they both instill that element of dread that the player gets from a daunting game with scary environments and monsters
any idea when the ashlands update might be released?
damn you guys need a job
when it's ready, still 1st half of 2024 according to general channel
@frigid gust get a job!!
Soon as I finish making my egg sandwich this morning I'll get right to work, boss, don't you worry
I better not see you slacking buddy
reminds me of things i would say to my workers mining iron in the crypts
A cop stops a car and ask the driver: "Who's car is this, where are you going, what do you do?
The driver only has one reply: Mine.
exactly
The most unbelievable part of this is the miner driving to the mine instead of just living at the worksite
What miners live at the mine?
if the mine is far away i would assume so
ones that dislike commuting?
dont miners usually take a bus to work, though granted its what B2Gold does here
16 tons and what do you get, another day older and deeper in debt...
dwarfs love a dig
It's usually shifts of like 2 weeks where they live in nearby provided accommodations and get bused to the mine
Then they get to go home for like a week
FIFO
everyone knows dwarves dig dig dig dig dig dig dig, dig, the whole day thru
In the mine! (echo) In the mine! (echo)
Where a million diamonds ... shine!
File in, file out
FIFO means First In First Out.
It means something else in customer service too, but I don't want to expand on it here.
FIFO is a type of queue in programming as well, First In First Out. But we're kinda getting into #general chat territory and should consider moving it there 😉

Damn... I was just typing that. 😛

So how you do people manage your Valheim slaves, I mean employees?
Yes, two different Python jokes in two different channels.
umm they get a bed
Does that bring us back on topic?
It's like the brainrot of the previous generation
often in a tower with a eye on it (wanna keep an eye on them)
I'm really not sure. There are no such thing as 'employees' in Valheim.
it's the smol wins
And now that is something, completely different.
AVENGERS...
They are lumberjacks and they are ok, they sleep all night and work all day.
and another disney song elbows it's way in
Lumberjack song isn't from disney, I'm staying in theme.
oh and they got different jobs, like for instance the smelter the lumberjack; but well sometimes we need iron so i send them into the mines
Mods?
ah Python again, foiled xD
You weren't the black knight on that joke.
Don't worry, it was just a flesh wound
need to up that parry game
Just walked into my stone base in the plains and there’s a 1 star skeleton in there?? How and what.
Did you leave the door open?
Well, you don't expect an un-starred skeleton to be able to do that, do you?!
Any raids recently? Brenna's raid could allow that, but I'm not sure of any other way for a starred skeleton to show up like that
I have not defeated brenna, I left my door open but it’s just really confusing me how a starred skeleton walked up to me, IN the plains. They can spawn like that??
Not as far as I know, unless you somehow have a Black Forest microbiome inside your base and it's also not covered by a spawn protecting player base structure.
So they can just spawn inside my base rn..? It’s just a stone tower right now still in construction
Possibly. Could have been a troll if my theory is right 😛 You need to make sure a workbench or fire radius is covering the place where you saw it
Wow, I do have a workbench covering it outside
er, swamp microbiome that is
But I don’t know, it’s kinda crazy
There is a swamp next to the plains, a good 150 meter walk away
I found a greyling in my boat once... still not sure how he managed that.
😂
Yeah, there have been instances of super small, not even visible pieces of another biome showing in the middle of other biomes. I have one world where I have a surtling geyser in the middle of a black forest, and nowhere around it does it say swamp biome, but there is some swamp a few hundred meters away. My guess is something similar for you, but it just spawned a skeleton instead.
Yep, i have a burial chamber surrounded by nothing but meadows in mine.
Once I found a guck tree in plains
So the biggest thing to do is to make sure the area is fully covered with workbench radiuses and you should avoid that in the future
I found a copper vein in the plains
Even says meadows when i stand right at the entrance
That must’ve been interesting
burial chambers always spawn everywhere in the smallest black forests that exist
at the border obviously, but it was there
Thanks for the reply. Apparently it's hardcoded into the files, so I went ahead and changed the files themselves
how many hours you guys got on valheim?
I might be easier for me to measure it in months. (Edit: And I'm barely at the top end of the first standard deviation above the mean).
I've got about 400 hours but 3/4 of that was just building a castle
Did you call it El Cid?
the cidtadel
That's not bad. Nice.
Is ashlands in the game?
900
They've always been in the game.
But if you mean if the Ashlands biome as mentioned by the dev's in their blogs is released; the answer is "No".
You need to wait for about 75 days before the time they mentioned is up.
Thank you!!!
I seem to have 950 hours.
Feels likes it's just a bit over 95 to me, though.
around 6000 🤔
Yeah, but you played the board game too. 😜
Valheim the board game?
Yeah, the pre-alpha version.
oh I wish that was a thing🥲
Well, I'm gonna screenshot this in case that's the next project.
Just to make sure I got credited for the idea. 😉
tho.. I have this folder
plenty of people have posted in #suggestions about a valheim board game tho
but no one really explained. how would it work 🤔
Looks like I got something to think about in the weekend.
It should be based on the Valheim Discord. The GM would be called Smiffe.
It would mostly involve players jumping in and out of combat while asking "when so-and-so".
You could make it a co-op thing a la the Stardew Valley boardgame.
valheim the farming simulator board game
I mean, at some point, it kinda do be like that...
turn 28983. "Walk to the forrest for 1 Action Point, cut down wood for another Action point"? 😄
oh no is EA making this one?
Make it just a game of "how fast can you beat Moder / Yagluth?"
*Getting the "Ground is shaking" event, roll a 1 and being told you 'wake up at the spawn, with your base and portals destroyed.'
Rage quit guaranteed*
Alternatively, make it so you gather enough resources to survive all of the raids up until Fuelings?
It would have a dice for wind direction with 1 on every side
I love the idea of 'Fuelings'. They roam the land with various stores of lithium-ion batteries, jerry-cans full of gasoline, and directions to the closest liquid hydrogen pumps.
I realize it is a typo, but I shall let this stand.
It's a great typo. Just 'Yes, and..' it. 🙂
Go full old school text adventure like Zork or something... "You approach a wooded glen. What do you do?" >
W.
"There is a tree blocking your path to the West. What do you do?" >_
Berate Glen for having wood in my presence.
"Geln takes offense, and sends an army of Greydwarves to attack you. You are overwhelmed. Game over."
sounds like a MUD game 😄
Ahh, man! Do I have to insert more coins now?
Exactly. MUDs were just BBS multiplayer versions of the single-player text adventures.
One day I'm going to find someone to just improv the crap out of an idea with me.
As a helper and given the channel, I need to keep some of this truncated and on-topic 😉
I respect your discipline. Bravo you.
Getting real damn close to driving out all the mobs out of my plains island. about 90% spawn proofed... damn this island is huge
(island, not a continent)
Question:
Who else hears Baelin's voice adding: "Nice day for fishing, ain't it" when their character wakes up and you get the good morning text on your screen?
whats the update on xbox
I used to write and admin for one back in the day.
hey do you think fish and bread is worth it if you build a fish farm and with 1.5x resource multiplier?
tbh most things are worth it for me with 1.5x on, depends on how much time you have
i dont mind waiting there a bit but i dont want to have to fish, from what i looked up a good fish farm is a line of wood floors surrounded by 26 degree wooden roof tiles
layered a couple of times
Is the sea serpent an event spawned mob?
Nope, just a natural spawn..
What most people call "a storm". 👼
yea
Ok ad thats only when its says im in the ocean biom
The ones which spawn during nights will de-spawn at dawn. Unless they're noticed by you, iirc.
The ones that spawn during a storm won't despawn.
Boy, am I glad I don't use the resource modifier to get more items.
I'm already able to summon Bonemass 30 times. 😦
And not even done gathering every resource from this 2nd swamp I'm in.
Wild idea, don't loot every bone 👀
I'm not looking for them.
But I may drop them in the swamp every once in a while now I got about enough.
I do wish I could use them as bolts for the crossbow later. Like their better looking "relatives".
Guys doesn’t the raid “foul smell from the swamp” only happen before you defeat bonemass?!?!
It depends on how much fibre you have in your diet. 😛
😂
I'd advise checking the Wiki. There's a really good event progression table there.
no, it upgrades from skele's to blobs after i think
A foul smell from the swamp sounds like i need a shower🥴
There are technically two different events with the same text confusingly.
Yep it was
before boner, its skeletons, post boner is blobs
Man the mistland can be so brutal sometimes. Just got a Gajal and 3 ticks, 2 seekers and 1 seeker soldier at once. Took out everything but the Gjal. Time for a naked run
Been there. The gjall is always what will get me, adding more ticks to the fight when I'm busy elsewhere
Is there any passive gain for being stealthy in front of moving enemies who cannot see you, or can you only gain experience while moving in stealth?
You only gain experience specifically moving in stealth. You don't even have to be hiding from anything specific.
Because if it's only the latter, I'm surprised you can't gain some experience at a more passive rate, like 20% or something while staying still and unseen.
I "sneak" around while my chickens are laying eggs
Oh?! Not even hiding from anything in particular?
Well it does make gaining stealth experience all the better if I don't have to be stuck around my boar during the pouring rain 😅
Well, now I'm curious how many seconds it would take to go from 0 to 100 skill with standard XP gains.
I don't think you gain stealth around tamed animals, only "enemies." (red bar)
i only know of it working with dvergers
if other green bar creatures idk
that's good to know.
you gain stealth just stealthed and moving, no animals or enemies needed
First time playing since the latest patch, and parts of my castle wall are breaking down. I'm quite sure they were stable enough last time I checked. But in the patch notes I can only find "Fixed inconsistent support calculations for “Cage floor” 1x1 piece" that has anything to do with support calculations, and there is no cage floor near this wall.
I thought you needed to be in range of something
Maybe the wiki is out of date?
You need to be in range of something, homeboy is incorrect
I think tamed animals count, though. I've gained stealth levels in my chicken coop which is halfway up a Plains rock spire on a spawn-proofed island, so no chance of any enemies being anywhere in range.
you do gain sneak experience just sneaking and moving, but the gain rate is much faster when in range of an entity (enemy or tame) who is unaware of your presence
it's just sneaking and moving in base with no animals yeah
you could autorun if you had a key that restealthed you every time you hit max stam
hey is there a setting that disables crafting table build radius?
as in you need to build a workbench to build in the surrounding area
yes, if you enable devcommands then type "nocost" in console, you'll be able to build whatever with no requirements
deathsquitos do not belong in this game
Why not? They’re free arrows with wings, heading straight for your inventory.
they could hide in bushes or shit like that
they're cheap as fuck
It only takes one hit to kill them, and they don’t do a ton of damage either
they kill me instantly
I thought that was why they were called deathsquitos, because they 1-shot you
Is your character strong enough for plains? (Beaten moder?)
no, I'm still on the swamps
Later enemies are incredibly strong towards early players. Try to avoid later biomes whenever possible, until you’re strong enough for them.
well, I'm a bit stuck here right now. Fulings destroyed my longship, and I need to pick up the pieces to rebuild it
I thought one was a trader lol
but then when I got closer....well you know.
If you can make a root harnesk, that will make dealing with deathsquitos and spear fulings much easier. (Look out for torches though)
Then you just need to keep your distance from the melee fulings
the fulings aren't hard to kill
they just swarmed my boat. there was 4 of them
woah lox's drop a lot of food
there are 2 lox's guarding my ship
I'm getting irritated
They're mostly blind and deaf, if you have a huntsman's bow you can attract only one at a time and handle them individually from high ground
i hate the stone golem, SO, MUCH
i purposefully wear root armor to not make the mountain challenge a cakewalk with my friend, but then i died twice today to golems, and i lost a bunch of skill
Lost a bunch of skill huh
Would you say that you might be having a skill issue, then?
now i am just absolutely frustrated, the seed of my friend's server is cursed as hell, we fought at least 2 stone golem per day, drake everywhere, at least 6 drakes, and a bunch of wolves
You using your mace? Iron mace makes Golems much more manageable.
I had a stone golem spawn on my Moder... so I have to fight them same time. I am not pleased.
These spawns aren’t affected by the seed, except for drake nest one-time drake spawns
i use the frostner
Frost damage is bad against golems
i know but at least in my server, it is harder to come by that many golems in a day in mountain
Well that's silly. They're immune to frost damage, and spirit, and the Frostner does almost no blunt.
Fostner barely hurts them.
like damn, the level 4 iron mace makes short work of a stone golem when i made, didnt know itd be that big a upgrade
well technically a downgrade but compared to a frostner, the iron mace is a upgrade
do you know which parts are crumbeling?
i need to know who came up with the idea of stone golem
So you can thank them for their amazing design skills, right?
Mountains would be very boring if it was just wolves and drakes during the day, and we wouldn’t have nice windows.
why?
so he can send them hate mail?
I would advice to read #rules-and-info tho
Seriously, just make an iron mace: #memes-and-clips message
it was a joke. I don't know that guy.
worst enemy tbh. zero reason to fight them, everything you can get from them comes from elsewhere easier in greater quantities, they're easy enough to run from, they're very annoying to fight
is it weird that I'm less afraid of the plains than the swamp?
i have that one aight?
In our first world, my friend tamed a lox before killing the elder and died more doing that than I have in all my time playing valheim.
He also cleared a fuling village
Somehow
fulings are pushovers tbh
worst thing that always when i take the portal to the mtn, the stone golem just happens to spawn nearby, so if i dont fight them off, they gonna wreck the shack with the portal
If you have an iron mace they only take a few hits to kill
i, have, iron mace, only that i don't have it on me cuz it is in another server
Careful jump attacks (to avoid damage) with a pickaxe might be faster than whatever you’re doing, but I haven’t tried it.
Mace + shield is better than pickaxe once you get that back, so you can parry
if you have the tekkers the best one is shield and hotswapping to pickaxe on parry
the only real problem is when they stack up
Ehh... even knowing the techniques, it's easy to get in over your head if you're not careful.
there are 2 reasons I hate the swamp. Reason number 1: water, water everywhere. Reason 2: spawners, spawners everywhere.
leeches, leeches everywhere
your movement options are so limited
as a matter of fact, it could be in your room rn
Arrows can take out spawners with patience 😉 But yeah, they're tough when there are two draugr spawners and a bone pile all together, especially if you end up with a couple with stars
Leeches are a pain, but at least they don't attack your boat unless you're in it.
that would be cancer
Most enemies do attack your boat if they see it. Leeches are one of the few exceptions. I think Deathsquitos will ignore the boat itself too.
How would that improve the experience?
The last thing new players who think swamps are too hard need is a 3-star draugr elite chopping them into tiny pieces.
honestly, I think crypts are the easiest part of the swamp xd
A dungeon doesn’t need these things to be a dungeon
the best experience in valheim can be had with a boat, best food and armour, a fishing rod, and all the time in the world
Your suggestion would just add more of the same.
Dungeons are already combat experiences
If it’s too easy for you, try changing world modifiers
(and enough bait of all types)
So... a different game?
I didn't see a mod say anything.
Yeah, because you're not ever intended to explore the entire map.
Flowers are just flowers, we are not moderators. Moderators have red usernames.
what is happening in this chat right now
A conversation?
a really strange one
Not especially.
Who said the game was perfect?
I swear you're seeing things i'm not.
I also think dungeons are a little bland, but you haven't really suggested anything specific that would improve them.
higher star enemies are just tankier. that's not more substance
Indeed.
Have you talked to Hildir yet?
Might have something to do with the fact the game isn't complete yet
The game is literally in early access, and there are major updates still planned. it just kind of is true xD
no, that would be rust.
these things take time unless you want the developers to sleep at the office
Not even close.
no, why would I be baiting you?
so the wiki says puffers are found outside mistlands but i'm finding them all over the place
oh yeah same, I saw a whole school of them earlier
I noticed this too, I’ve also seen them in normal ocean.
to be more specific, the wording used is "just offshore" which would imply pretty close to mistlands and i haven't been within load range of mistlands but have seen a few, caught 1 because it landed in my boat too
Just as a note, 7 Days to Die is still in Early Access since 2013. So that might be the winner for longest EA.
it grinds my gears when people complain about games not being finished after a few years. I waited 20 years for Metroid dread, and it's been 16 years since Metroid prime 3, 7 years sinced they announced the 4th game.
Pufferfish spawn in Mistlands or Ocean.
oh shit I forgot about that, good point.
i seen so many people asking for the update in here i just find it funny at this point. turn the difficulty up. go fishing, go exploring, go building, there's so much to do that can make the game novel again
how much silver is enough i wonder? for the entire mountain tier for 1 person
It depends on what weapons and armor you’re making
It's been only three years...
Seems like valheim is literally the only game you've ever played in that case
wiki states this, iirc it's about 700
Is that for everything at level 4?
i assume so? says "fully upgraded" needs 730 for all mountains, 743 for all biomes
what's the dumbest thing you guys plan to do before being done with valheim? I'm going to make a treehouse so big that it makes the black forest live up to its name.
i don't think i'm gonna be done with the game before it's done. i plan to come back and try a playthrough every 2-4 updates - seems i got here just in time for ashlands, so i'll likely come back well after DN
still, don't you want to do something insane? Valheim is such a fun sandbox
Nomap is fun, haldor being so much rarer changes a lot of how i play. I'm enjoying it a lot so far
i suppose i might try some interesting builds using nocost or something like that
i just don't have the attention span to undertake a lot of things
i might also try joining a server or group of players or something, see what multiplayer has to offer in an organised group
i already sailed around the world in my first playthrough, seeing the almost-empty ashlands and entirely empty DN
There is ant#other game called 7days to die …
We covered that.
Did you guys cover Medieval Engineers? They have only been in EA since 2015 though
today is the day ....right... GUys?
Maybe, maybe not, we have no idea.
Today is definitely the day. The day you build a stadium.
They’re really only counted as dungeons as a physical classification for instance spawning anyway…
I never felt like Valheim needed dungeons like the typical ones in other games. Aren’t the Hilder’s Request minibosses kind of closer to that concept though?

Morning gjall.
it was the stones furthest on top of the wall. It's mostly stone wall, that I already had reinforced a bit with iron wood to make it just strong enough to be this high. The foundation is hidden from view and has been done by my friend, so it's not easy to see where the wall actually has earth as support. Now I solved it by just adding a bit more iron wood. I hope no other parts of our castle will break, because the whole castle is standing on random pillars of earth as foundation 😅
ah
So after midsommar break
Like around October
Id say
12:2 isn't 10
Ik but they always take a 3 month break when midsommar starts
And the update most likely will not be out before june so
Dont get your hopes up
Mistlands was supposed to come out in may but it came out in may but it came out in November
? It's literally the pinned message in General chat, it's not me speculating
Its gonna get delayed
One of the reasons was the 3 month break
Ok, you know better then
Im not saying i know better but what happened in the past is not getting my hopes up
if we say before first half of 2024, it means first half of 2024
Why is my name bob!!!!!!
because your name is basicly invisible
Bob's your uncle, right?
so now you're bob
Oh ok
I'd change your PFP aswell if I could
Well mistlands was also promised in the first half
it never was promised
And it came out in November
Oh well then
but now, we promise
You know who does a good Bob rendition?
Rowan atkinson.
Well ill be waiting for the update. And coming from a dev gotta take that word
There was speculation about it, there was never a promise from the devs.
my word wasn't good enough then, i see how it is
I would belive Samaramon aswell since she has read what we wrote a few times also 😄
Well i remembered wrong sorry abt that
Sorry if i came out as harsh
I've just been waiting for the update for so long i can't wait anymore
is it? 🤔
I don't have any planned vacation in May / june 😄
dawg bruh
Well, the standard is. Don't confuse things :p
how am i supposed to dig muddy scrap piles that are under the sea level like
well.. can't. digging up the scrap piles outside aren't exactly meant to be a reliable source of iron. Just some little extra if you like treasure hunting
You can try raise the land with a hoe.
does that do anything though, if it's already too deep to reach?
if just need a footing I'd rather use wood to create a footing
kinda makes the wishbone useless for finding iron
pretty much. silver is the main purpose of it, and digging up treasures in meadows ect.
i kinda hate how every swamp biome that is not the home of bonemass is the size of a small basketball court with zero crypts
and its a pain in the ass to find one especially early game
gotta get lucky with world generation. I found a swamp with a bit more than 20 cryptss fairly early on
but had no bonemass in it, had to sail much further
if bonemass's shrine is there its like a guarantee that there'll be at least like 8 or 10 crypts there
this world generation shit kinda freaky
It's just RNG.
encourages you to move your ass tbf
if still need more iron, can only keep sailing and looking for more swamps to explore
its a good thing
ashlands when
Not really, bonemass swamp we found with a friend not long ago had 4 crypts i believe 😄
Ashlands will come in the first half of 2024
There will be a public test beta
As goblin says "HAWHEHEHAH"
I was lurking and had the thought
Granny Smiffe Apples
I’ll leave that with yall cya

Is dark wood the only wood that doesn't rot in the rain right now?
Yep.
and no floor version of it... for sure not going to build fishing areas with stone or constantly rotting wood. damn this will be expensive...
I mean, it only goes as far as 50% health, so it's fine to leave.
hate it how it looks when it's at 50% tho
Eh, it's damp wood, what are you going to do?
dip in tar I guess 😂
just gotta chime in to say I approve of your username. Atgeir best weapon
Never stopped wielding it once I first got my hands on it. Was skeptical at first, just using the classic sword... but oh boy is it a fine a weapon
Indeed. And spin-to-win is just so fun
FOR DEMACIA
is there a way to do even 1/4 spacing? 1/2 obviously by taking that small 1x1 wooden floor, but would be great if there's something to do 1/4
Place a beam on a beam and snap to that maybe
didn't work for the purpose. I'm trying to space it 1/4 horizontally
wood doors don't work? Not really sure how deep they are exactly but they're shorter than a beam and have 3 snapping points pretty close together.
Just figured, are Zil & Thungr duo boss from Haldir Sealed tower a reference to Lothric and Lorian, Lord of Cinder from dark souls 3 ?
I wouldn't have thought so.
beam against wall?
beams snap to the corners of walls, no different from walls or floors
yeah but you hold shift and free place
corewood beams that are horizontal though snap differently since they go on top of stuff
gives you something close
either way, already solved the isssue by going 100% manual, and went with 2/5 spacing. realized that 1/4 spacing would have been too tight anyway
Also just realized that fish do not seem to spawn in shallow waters in plains...
screw it, I guess I'll just fish with a karve since building fishing docks doesn't seem like very viable
Depends on the spot. Some spots don't seem to get respawns at all, some are always full of fish no matter how many you take out.
So basically fish a little first and see if you get respawns before building, but fishing next to a campfire for stam regen and with a roof in case of rain is nice.
These damned loxes managed to break the crafting bench buried under their pen, which then caused fulings to spawn in with them and they went on a rampage. god I hate loxes
Lox = Mayhem, so need Allstate 🤣. (U.S. joke)
What do you think about Granny Smiffe apples tarte tatin with fresh whipped cream and bourbon vanilla ice cream?
Earthen wall with workbench on, then put stone slabs around it to hide it and corporate it in their pen is what I did after I had a similar scenario happen.
nothing feels better than leveling a whole goblin village with fire magic
I have a few things to Google is what I think
Fire magic is love, fire magic is (end of) life.
crazy the effort you have to go to in order to try to keep any tamed animal alive
I hope ashlands fortresses arnt Closterphobic like mountain caves and black forest tombs
Yeah, part of the appeal though.
to me, that seems like the kind of thing that, appeal-wise, will vary wildly among players. could warrant a world setting. I can see that the challenge of standing between your pigs and all the forces of darkness could be some people's tea cup
tamed animals would be far more bearable if they just didn't climb on top of each other like bunch of clowns
but I've failed so many times that now I just won't engage with any taming part of the game. which is really sad. I want tamed animals but I KNOW they will get murdered and I can't stop it, so its not worth the effort
if we could make them tankier or have something to build that would protect them, that would suit some people's play much better
it's easy to keep them alive in safety of your own base. But problem is if they break their spawn protection keeping them alive like dumbass
how is there safety in your own base?
by building a proper base
there are so many kinds of things that come specifically try to murder creatures in your base. with wildly different attack powers
none of them can damage the base if they cannot even approach it
ranged ice, ranged poison, tiny bats, huge aoe slams. I'm not saying its impossible to make a base that can protect, but I claim it is not easy
unless you did some cheesy airgapped dyson sphere nonsense, they can approach your base.
it is easy. done it many times. I just spawn protected a relatively big island. Time consuming but easy
I’ve never lost my tames funny enough and I’ve never done anything fancy to keep them alive
another way is building moats, they won't get over those
Not even raised ground walls/moats
drakes wont get over moats. interesting
then don't build in mountains...
Drake raid
do you have raids turned off? I dont build in mountains. the meadows can get very dangerous after you progress
But still a roof is enough to deal with that or just killing the drakes as the raid happens
I've had a base that hasn't been raided for over 200 days. Don't even need to turn them off if you build your base properly
Can a single chicken lay an egg?
I just keep getting "You are being Hunted" raids. I spend so much time in my bases and it doesn't happen until I leave...
No. You need two of any tame animal to breed.
Oh lord.. so I need 3000 COINS?!?
yup
That is sad..
Or go clear out a Sealed Tower for Hildir... there are like, 5 eggs in a chest at the bottom level.
Oh seriously?! That’s awesome
3k is somewhat affordable after cleaning up a lot of crypts for iron, can never have too much iron
Only problem is that they’re incredibly far away, and I would most likely die.. lol
Yeah, it's not an easy fight 😛 But it's an option
I’ll probably go through more black forests and swamps for coins and valuables
I don’t feel like going across the map to get to the sealed tower lol
as far I can tell swamp crypts are the best way to get coins for a long while
It’s quite the swim away
fulings seem to be slower, but for many more fun way to get coins
Fulings are pretty reliable for me, and their villages. End up with probably 500+ after the chests and all the shamans and such when taking out a village
haven't been very lucky with chests for coins. most of it been coming from the kills while raiding
Yeah, it's generally only 50-100 or so per chest, but it adds up after all the other kills.
the worst village I've seen had 7 shamans, 6 zerkers... but only 4 chests to loot
did get plenty killing all the little shits tho
How much does a troll give?
20-30 or so at 0 stars
Trolls feel bad for coin farming tbh
Though troll caves usually have stuff like amber pearls and rubys lying around too.
My current world has so many troll caves i had a chest full of gold before even setting foot in the swamp.
Troll caves and burial chambers are the easiest way to find cash IMO. They're super common, and easy to handle. At this point I'm just collecting the cash though since I've bought everything I need, eventually you get quite a hoard going on.
It's not a viking base unless you have a chest full of gold somewhere.
I've got a blackmetal chest full of valuables, 5-6 random piles, 20 or so stacks, and a couple of those decorative silver chests scattered around my room.
god damn every single time. I almost finished building this roof, just finished building all the support pillars for it... and it starts raining. look at the rain ending once I finish this roof
RITE of passage
Only because I used to be a newspaper editor in school, it's actually 'rite', as in a ritual 😉
Oooh! In my defense I'm self-taught and some things I only know audibly 🥲 I'll edit it, ty!
no building shall be spared from rain
For sure. You speak more languages than I do, and in general have better grammar and spelling than many native speakers I've met 😛
Ahh, man. A seeker flew over my base wall and destroyedf my may pole :/
Just a few months and you'll be able to rebuild it at least
RARE occasion where I'd suggest just Hammering it >_> I'd be devastated!
summer is here soon... it will be back
Six weeks until the Midsummer season starts.
idk about my country though, saw damn snow again yesterday
luckily none of it stayed on the ground
Or right away when the "no-cost" modifier is turned on. (or using devcommands)
I had snow this morning and icy rain here in Colorado, too
Your fault for living in nearly Canada.
Well, I'm not, but I not only had rain coming from the North-East, but also the occasional moment with hail and ice-crystals among it.
Which makes me wonder if we'd get snow storms if / when The Frozen North is released as biome.
oh... just got a great idea. I just noticed that my Island is close enough to build a bridgge connection to the mainland. But I first would need to know how high do I need to make the underpass to allow a longboat through?
Wiki has information about the height of a mast from all ships.
but is the height of mast same as the collision box?
I noticed you can get loxes through gates that in practise should be too low
22m long x 6m wide x ~12m air draft (height above the water)
From wiki
So build it 14m high and you'll be good with normal weather.
In storms it'll be more tricky as the waves rise and fall.
would be really nice if draw bridges were a thing
like... really nice. No more need for scuffed entrances if you want to have a way back in
Been requested for a long time. They'd be very useful indeed.
use doors
You can't get horizontal doors.
Use some corewood beams or wood floors, destroy and reconstruct them 😛
Oh, yes, that's such a viable alternative.
that's why I used the 😛 , it's supposed to be mocking 😉
Devs should make catapults instead
Then you can put it under the water and launch across the bridge
Simple solutions
Uhm
They did
hmm... just a random thought, but do enemies attack wooden pillars at all? I've been marking borders of spawn protection with them and I've never seen them attack them
might make for a viable bridge, maybe?
Nope. Not unless they're aggroed against you or a tame and can't get to you.
they probably can't path find properly if your bridge is entirely made of beams right?
If you just make 1m spaced horizontal beams I think the enemies and tames can't path over it, but you can cross it fine. At least it used to be that way, haven't tested it recently.
So in the plains, son and I cleared a Fuling camp. Then suddenly “You are being Hunted” and so begins the wolf attack. Silver daggers and shields at the max, let the slaughter commence. Love this game!
yeah the raids can come out of nowhere sometimes
It's always great if you get this before the camp is cleared, the wolves will help you fight the fulings.
As I understand every 46 minutes in game a random chance
it can be fun but kinda goes on my nerves after the 3th raid on my little base
That would have been awesome. The camp was tough. 2 Lox, 4 Shaman, 3 1Star, 1 2Star, and maybe 8 or so little guys. We tried to draw them out 1-2 at a time. Then it went sideways. Awesome battle!
All with silver daggers, shield, troll armor.
Huntsman bow with needle arrows to draw them out
Sneak in, kill as many of the shamans with backstab, then retreat to a pre-selected spot where you can kite around object.
20% chance with normal settings.
Yes, and based on what boss level you have finished. I think we have ours on “player” setting. Would have to look. I know it is more complicated and I am over simplifying it.
Oh, player raids are different. I co-wrote the page on that and I'm STILL not sure it's right.
Tried drawing them out one by one with bow. Did do some damage to them. Lucky there were no brutes
Brutes actually help clear space to move so I like having them in the gaggle and save them for last.
It feels right, have had Trolls, wolves, greys
Anyway, was a great session co-op with my Son. Our second play through together and we love the game as it is, can only see it getting better. We play on Xbox
FYI, the Huntsman's bow has a lot lower noise radius than any other bow making it perfect for that kind of thing
Sup everyone. I’m in the Iron Age, doing absolute wooork in the swamps. Set up a base just outside that has a surtling farm, bone mass and 9 crypts.. I’ve almost got all the iron from the crypts.. think a max quality iron armor set and a maxed banded shield and iron mace will work? I’m using turnip soup, sausages and the honey mead for food. And a poison resist.. think it’ll be enough for bone mass?
I failed hard a few months ago when I got to the swamps. I sucked. This go around is going smooth and I’m about to try the boss.
Mead isn't food
Use black soup, sausages and turnip stew
you can swap the health food for serpent meat and serpent stew if you have killed one, but the normal food is still more than good enough
Whatever the 14/45 honey thing is. Takes like 8 strawberries and 6 blueberries to make 5
Tasty mead?
I use that, turnip stew and sausages
Any tricks to bonemass tho? I’m told to level out and raise the ground.. weak to blunt. Go in rested and with a poison resist going
Queen's jam
?
You're not playing with mods, are you?
As there aren't any strawberries in this game.
Yeah. That’s it
Sounds like you got it 🙂
they do look like strawberries tho xD
Raspberries.
People frequently refer to the raspberries as strawberries.
If it's your first time, you might want to use 2 health foods. It's entirely your choice though, of course.
Queens jam, sausages, and turnip stew. Hmm.. yeah that’s just 1 healthy huh.
Black soup can be made with a bloodbag, a turnip and honey. It's health food.
But maxed iron armor and weapon/shield is fine, right? What cloak is normal? I’m using a simple deer hide cloak
Swamp has no cloak, it doesn't matter. They don't grant much defence anyway.
Okay. Thats easy enough to farm
Okay cool. Probably gonna work on bonemass once I’ve completely farmed out the iron from this biome, but that’ll be soon.
I rushed in last play through and ultimately failed because I didn’t go in with good food, consistently never paid attention to the time of day, and rarely had my rested buff going.. and didn’t even have poison resist. It’s wild how much easier it is when.. you actually go in prepared
Yeah, Big Ike already said that planning is everything.
About 85 years ago when he mentioned that.
Time to haul iron!
Got my first 6 stacks and 7 iron loaded aboard my longship; off to the next 11 stacks.
And going to find that smoldering cavern after. Hope I won't run out of time today. 🙂
It really is wild. Game is almost easy if you pay attention to these things. Then on very hard mode if you miss even one you’re dead lol
Havent played in a year. Hows everyone doing?!
Do you always only have 300 weight limit to carry? Seems kinda low
You can buy a special item at the trader to increase that weight by 50%
if buy the belt from the trader you can increase it by 150
What have I missed? Ashlands still due in june or something right?
yeah im like still pretty new so that might take awhile
hmm.. might want to check pins and faqs btw
Go fight him already!!! 🙂
Worse case scenario ya die and gotta retrieve your body
Yup.
We're all waiting for it. 🙂
You've got all the tricks that help out, the rest is all just execution
Yeah. Me and my mate stopped playing exactly 1 year and 5 weeks ago pretty much after clearing Mistlands 😄
also is the meadows the only peaceful-ish biome where you can make a house without getting absolutely obliterated?
May be faster as you think.
You can find him even before the first boss fight - if you're lucky - but he's in the biome that comes after the first boss fight.
And that fight can be done pretty early in the game.
Until you get into the latest stages, where the Swamps are the safest biome day or night time 😛
You can make a house anywhere. Meadows is just relatively safer.
oh I mean I defeated the deer thing awhile ago
Id advise against making a house in mistlands tho
yeah thats what im asking
very annoying
Bah. Make it on top of a spire and it's absolutely lovely.
I tried in the dark forest and It got absolutely destroyed by a troll mid building
Mistlands is about taking over existing houses imo
I prefer the no interference lifestyle when building a forever home 😛
In that case, get some copper and tin as well as the other items needed for a good boat and start exploring.
The trader will show up at your map if you get "close" to him.
Which means he'll show up as a bag even before the fog of war is lifted from that part of the map.
No home is forever
a raft?
I've got a quick tour of my Mistlands comfy base in #building-screenshots , took a bit of work but the atmosphere is unmatched in the rest of the game
fite me
Nope, a boat. The Karve.
A raft is too slow to cross an ocean.
is meadows only on one part of the map or are there more randomly
might take awhile then
There are more randomly.
Just like the other biomes.
There are more randomly, across the whole world.
when should I kill the elder though
When you feel you've "completed" the black forest and are ready to move no to the next biome.
is the next biome the snowy one or
The bosses are the end points of the biomes and help unlock important things in the next biome.
The next biome after The Elder is the swamp
oh do the swamps have the crypts?
They got the sunken crypts, yes.
You'll get a hint for what the next biome is from either the boss drop or other stuff you acquire im a biome. For biome 2 -> 3 one hint is the poison resistance mead but the main one is the boss drop.
and what are some good stuff i should have before the elder fight
The 3rd biome gives you something you need for the 4th biome, etc.
Your weapons and armor to its maximum level.
Your workstations to its maximum level.
Which also means at least one kiln and one smelter.
A Karve for traveling and transporting your first ores if the Black Forest isn't close to your current base.
Good defences - like a moat or dirt walls - to protect your base
For the Elder itself maximum bow with fire arrows can do.
Sword or axe might do as well, if you want to go toe-to-toe with him.
You have some options to fight him, depending at where his altar is.
btw, with "weapons" I mean bronze ones.
Oh and make sure you got the right foods for you. Which means you need to grow carrots for certain.
The biggest factor for success in Valheim is your food production pipeline, and getting the best foods for your current biome. Focus on that, and everything else will flow from it.
I was saying this the other day. I think I could actually finish the game with a bronze ategir and biome-appropriate food.
Iron loaded.
16 stacks of 30, 1 stack of 16.
I think that's going to be enough for a while. 🤔
I'm alweays surprised how quickly a literal boatload of iron gets used.
I've already used 300 or so iron to max my mace, shield, bow, axe and pickaxe.
So what I got now is meant for building and later upgrades.
Really depends on what you're doing with iron. I've only ever done 1 cartful and never mined more again
Over preparation nice like a true paranoid player indeed noice or judt a completionist
I never became the same after i experienced wonderland
I always tend to be underprepared in every circumstances, which actually kinda pays off since
I have nearly 700 hours in this game already
And can beat anything barely with any shield or weapon
I have 500 and half of it is just me building and enjoying the boat ride
I kinda want to play now, but I don't have a computer with me lol
As said, I will need some iron for building. I'm planning to add iron grate to my chimney to make those bat-proof.
Going to need a load of iron for wood-iron poles and my chicken coop will be made from iron grates as well.
Iron's gone fast that way.
Also, with next biome I'm going to be able to upgrade my gear; so it's a good idea to have the iron ready for that as well.
Oh I missed the first time I went to the plains with black forest gear wondering "should I explore here next?" instakilled
That's a hint not to go there yet. :p
a classic fly by death squito squad?
if you get trees between him, most of his shots will hit them. when he throws the sprouts that come up, run out of the sprout patch
I clear the area around elder before spawning, removing stumps and shrubs, to make it easier to get around
also make extra portal nearby to get in and out quick
The pillars around the fire are great for avoiding his ranged attack because they're indestructible. He only does it if you're too far away, though.
The third, fifth and sixth bosses are pierce resistant, so you'll have to try melee against them (Don't NEED to, of course)
fire/cold arrows
Because of the pierce damage the bow itself deals, melee is still much more effective
takes 2-300 arrows for moder
If you do just arrows. It takes 100-150 if you go engage with melee when she lands
I just added a new dumb action to my list of Valheim stupidities:
Fighting in the Smoldering Tomb, while wearing root armor.
And not being able to craft the Barley-wine...... 🤦♂️
Oh well, guess it's just an extra challenge. 😄
Fighting greydwarfs brutes kinda sucks
They literally have low “cooldown” and can swing their hands at great length
Also, should the skeleton archers have such accuracy? I think reducing damage isn’t enough, since they are the very first enemy you encounter with them having bows
I think its somewhat reasonable to gradually increase not only damage of the bow on archer enemies, but also accuracy of the shots
Having 2 variables instead of just increasing damage on next bow enemy (draugr archer) would have been more interesting
I think the accuracy is on purpose, keeps any ranged enemy that you find an immediate priority target as you go up the biomes
Challenge completed.
Altough it did force me to take one (minor) health potion.
the very first ranged enemy would be grey dwarf and they have passed the storm trooper training with flying lack of color
That thrown rock falls into a "even a blind man will strike his target at some point" category for me.
No, skeletons can spawn in meadows
They can spawn by the dolmens from the start.
But it's harder to determine which is the first one considering both greydwarves and skeletons also spawn in BF
TIL
Only at night though IIRC
Yeah and it's far from a guaranteed spawn.
@polar jewel
will there be freefly on servers? I got my own server with 2 friends and we would like to take nice screenshots or videos
By default no, that's not available. Cheats like that are only available on local play in general.
Pegster is a well of Valheim knowledge
Preface: I like the valheim portal system. Going through and being instantly safe is good, and it saves on hardware resources for sure, however...
How different and simultaneously more dangerous would the game be if they operated like Aperture portals instead of stargates? The views and screenshots you could get, the ease of transporting materials, and the tension of trying to close it behind you before those 17 fulings rushed your home base.
Obviously not a possibility because of how much you'd have to change in game
@glossy axle got paid by roy 😂
What?
sorry just an inside joke lol he will know what it means
Probably best for dms in that case as no one else here is in on the “inside joke”.
If there’s an issue within an in game server reach out with modmail to report the user - with evidence that they’re using this discord for that action of course.
nah no issues with any servers 😛 or anything payment related lol was legit just a joke
no action needed or anything 😛 ty for the quick reply tho. if there was a problem youd be on top of that 💯
Btw what's the difference with lox cape and wolf
Swag
just the look of it.
Ok
And how deep it drags in the ocean under your boat
lol yeah.
I sure hope we get a world modifier option for that later, because the coolness is self-explanatory
greetings
the only thing is i think it would hurt the performance something fierce, not to mention the bugs you'd face trying to implement it, if it's even possible tbh
iirc all values are the same except durability, lox cape has more. you'll never notice this though, judging by the frequency most people repair their kit at
It would have to be a big option in the starting menu, with that kind of warning next to it
True… I never noticed cape failure until I started occasionally falling from the sky mid-glide
Not nearly as bad as having a tick jump out from nowhere while gliding through mountain trees and not being able to fight back… but close
Yeah, I always get frustrated when I just get into ML and I only have enough cores for the refinery OR the black forge OR the Galdr table.
Have they given an Ashland release date yet?
Yep. By the end of this half of the year.
I hate not being able to find a huge patch of mountains
There are no frost cavern to find, and also a limited amount of silver vein
i find just sailing around and looking for the tallest mountain you can works fairly well
so gliding degrades feather cape? good to know in advance, thank you 😛
also, as much as i hate raids i love it when one comes in clutch for you - ran out of surtling cores, surtling raid happens. Thanks Odin
anyone noticed a change in the ability of carts to handle going up stairs?
carts don't seem to be able to go up the stairs in our walkways where they used to be just fine
Have they said why there is no DevCommands on MP?
I assume security reasons
Is it just the servers have no way of knowing which player owns it? Or does the server only know that it owns itself
What possible security reasons is there with the server owner being able to mark players for using DevCommands?
It's not creative mode, well.. it can be.. but to my knowledge if you have things like that enabled you are more susceptible to being hackzord
Maybe not, just an assumption.
DevCommands most definitely do not let people send code to your computer for remote execution or anything like that
Never said it did
What is getting hacked to you then if it's not your PC getting compromised?
Hacking has many forms
That doesn't answer the question
Cool
In the context of playing on a valheim server, what would you consider getting hacked or how does that look to you?
Am I having a stroke?
You should just request creative mode mp
I am trying to figure out why you think adding DevCommands to be usable on the server makes people able to be hacked. And what you consider getting hacked in that context is
I never said that. I said it may possibly compromise security
Nay, you said that to your knowledge it makes people more susceptible to being hacked. What knowledge makes you think this and what do you think getting hacked is
I don't want to answer that. If you want creative mp, just go to #suggestions
It's this, a dedicated server owns itself so noone can have dev commands.
We already have that using world modifiers.
Since when 👀?
About 6 months...
Cool
today is the day....right...guys?
Nah, tomorrow for sure
anyone know when yagluth vegvisirs are going to be released?
I ask myself that every time I play the game
Ah, no no, it just degrades from hits like with armor, but if it breaks mid-flight it’s a death sentence unless you’re overstacked with health
I spent hours sailing without finding a way around the strip of deadly landmasses to the swamp boss ;-;
I finally just looked at my world through a website. Is this taboo
eyeball, you're playing single player. taboo is whatever you want it to be
Only if you feel like it breaks the experience for you
How did you know I'm single player
lucky guess actually, but most people are
also perfect I've gained the power to rationalize all my actions
haha I don't have friends to play the game with
especially if they're new to the discord
*500+ new recipes slide across your screen
LOL nah I just want to be able to navigate my world, I'd like to see the rest of the content as it was meant to be supplied
well this is the perfect place to make some. actually, #1024264966712340510 is, but you know what i mean
point at hand though, you do whatever makes the game fun for you to play.
i use a mapper and the occasional devcommands to ensure that the challenge suits me and I am having fun.
i don't spawn everything in and become god, but some do, and that's up to them
the beauty of creative survival games in single player is that the world is entirely your oyster, do what you want
... except for moving metal through teleports. takes way too long to get ores single player
You can choose to expose the map with dev commands too, but I’d say just checking it once through the site is the least cheaty method in comparison
Yeah I knew about the dev command but I don't want to use it because its more fun to map the world yourself, I just needed to find that one sliver of water that gives me access to the swamp boss
