Thanks for checking, @merry pebble

wait Plains tier only have 1 armor type?

Yes.

merry pebble

there used to be only 1 armor type for each biome, except meadows and its 2 scuffed armors and black forest with troll armor

that is why i am making padded armor, i know to bring root or fenrings when roaming

i only asked whether or not there is only 1 armor set in plains tier

frigid gust
#

Yes, only one set

heady parcel
#

Only real must-have in the mists is the feather cloak, any excursion into Mistlands without it is an exercise in frustration

frigid gust
#

Ehh... you gotta get to that point somehow. Fenris + root harnesk served me pretty well, really conserves the stamina climbing up the rocks and such.

heady parcel
#

Yeah, I simply stuck with padded and good stamina food - and made very sure to not lose the rested buff haha

And never went further in than I could get out before dark 😄

I always feel like it’s hyped up as required because it gives a bit of quality of life, but I’d rather have combat power and survival first and worry about ease of transport later

heady parcel
light moat
#

I don’t know why, but I feel dirty destroying the refinery/forge to make the other station 😅

heady parcel
#

It does feel wrong haha

#

And tearing down the refinery means tearing down the shielding too to be able to rebuild it later, ugh

frigid gust
#

I'm still trying to find another infested mine so that I can have all the stations built at once, including the refiner.

paper roost
#

i know i m little bit late to that conversation, but everybody keeps fortgetting you dont need parry with flesh rippers, you have the kick that is even better than that

heady parcel
#

Sailing near borders between plains/swamps is fun, I love seeing fulings getting Jaws-ed by leeches

frigid gust
#

Hah. Yeah, I found the Queen altar before even finding my first mine, so once I get enough of the parts I'll be good. They just seem to be pretty sparse in the areas I've explored so far.

I have everything I need, my plan is to leave the Queen until Ashands release date is announced 😄

Maybe just bc it doesn't stagger as much on Very Hard and its annoying it pushes enemy away a bit.

But even then, I wouldn't imagine kick to do more damage/stagger than another weapons secondary attack?

And I'll do it again

And I did manage to craft the cape afterwards...

I still haven't killed yag

paper marsh

paper marsh

But, it doesn't stagger more than like a sword or mace secondary attack does it? Doesn't feel like much of an advantage over others.

And yea I guess the not staggering is more of a me issue, as well as not liking to stand still for long enough to do a heavy attack

heady parcel

Hahahahahhaa I'm so stupid

i m not 100% sure, but think the effect is the same as on parry with shield

paper marsh

on Very Hard?

#

I will say tho I am impressed if a mountain weapon staggers a seeker in one hit

paper roost
#

ah, no, it was on hard

#

i wouldnt use them as main weapon on VH i think

paper marsh
#

hmm does sound pretty powerful. Just still sounds like a club would do better every time, from what I remember they do double the stagger on their secondary attacks and since they get new versions more frequently you'll usually have more damage on them

paper roost
#

yes, but with club you kick them far away and before you get to them, its over 😄

I have enough now to craft a single staff, I'll go for dead raiser

I'd recommend fire staff first but dead raiser is pretty cool too

Yea no portals is this kind of fun. I did it multiple times. Going to trader for something and forget the gold I even fixed some tower I found on the shore and build a small port plus road towards trader from that point. On the other hand I like this preparation part. Where You need to plan how much food, arrows and other stuff to take on the trip

well no clue then. This is one of the few games I prefer with near 0 mods. Only ones I've got is grid for farming to make it bearable and another for giving small speed boost for using dirt paths and gravel paths

I don't understand why they haven't added a grid for farming like there's one for building...

#

oh my b

heady parcel
#

By the sound of the latest tease, it sounds like they are mostly done with content etc and are mostly busy with bugfixing and polish. Knowing software development, that can take a good while - but it could mean it is actually ready for public testing sooner than we might think. But nobody knows until they actually tell us.

austere hearth
#

IM just excited, just built a server PC for the express purpose of playing the ashlands with my fellas

#

Ive been looking at the devblogs since december in anticipation

heady parcel
#

Haha I run my server on an office PC from like 2012

austere hearth
#

epic

heady parcel
#

Was a brutish pc back then, but yeah 😄

austere hearth
#

Was gonna PM the devs and ask if I could have an early build of ashlands to test out but yea fosho

heady parcel
#

A question for the veterans in here, for how long did public testing last with previous biome updates?

frigid gust
#

It was a bit longer last time than they really wanted, I think it was almost a month from PTB to full release of Mistlands. I believe they're trying to find more of the balance and other issues internally before hitting PTB this time so it's a shorter cycle.

austere hearth
#

Hmmmmb

#

would the devs be open to release a test build do you think or is that strictly forbidden

heady parcel
#

There will be a public testing period, but before that I'd say no

austere hearth
#

So with valheims terrain is there any way you can use the same world for multiple updates? Like does the terrain update with new updates or does it stay the same? Say like how you can update old worlds in minecraft

heady parcel
#

Terrain you have already explored will not be updated, but anything still in the grey fog-of-war will be updated and work as intende. But Ashlands is going to be different due to major changes, they're cutting away any land connection between Ashlands and other biomes, so terrain in the borderlands will be heavily changed

#

So don't build stuff you want to keep near Ashlands...

austere hearth
#

So what you are saying is I can start a world now in preparation for the ashlands? And when it arrives I can still use the same world and have the new biome included when I update?

heady parcel
#

Yes, just don't go near Ashlands for it to go as smoothly as possible

austere hearth
#

Do we know how far out they will spawn or any general area?

heady parcel
#

No, but I am going to stay out of render distance at least

If you use the Valheim world generator and pick a random seed there, you will see the bottom of the map being covered in a reddish area.
That's basically where the Ashlands are going to be.

Ok

Don't explore too far to the north (top of the map) either. We're getting the next biome after Ashlands over there.

gray nexus

yeah, it's triggered by death

merry pebble

it can very well be triggered just by death, player induced or not, but i have no idea about that so i cannot say

gray nexus

btw just to be sure in mistlands. you can only farm over the soil-y part right, the black marble-y ground cannot be farmed on right?

If that one's at a nice level above water level, mining out the area under it will give more than enough room for a portal hub.
And if you put the portal leading to your main base straight in the center, you'll get a rested bonus the moment you enter that hub.

crude yacht

You can actually adjust the world modifiers from your start batch file.

merry pebble

well i have never worked with dedicated servers so i have no idea about that 😅

crude yacht
#

So it's just a matter of adding some text to the start script, and then restarting the server.

Heck, you could even just copy the start script to a new file, edit it then just choose whichever one you want to launch to restart for convenience the next time around.

hearty flume

Can you also add that you could plant everything as well? xD

crude yacht

I don't think planting everything is a world modifier...there is a "no building cost" option...

Can you make the minor healing mead?

pliant hatch
#

Add Mincedmeat sauce to your menu and you'll be fine when it comes to HP and stamina

desert tangle
hearty flume
#

I think you should have upgraded your weapon as well 🙂

pliant hatch
#

Also, having stamina mead may be a better choice

crude yacht
#

Tasty mead's effect only lasts a few seconds.

desert tangle
crude yacht
#

It's mainly to be used when you're building and need a quick stam boost.

desert tangle
#

will minor stamina be better then?

crude yacht
#

Meads don't take the same slots as food, you can use them completely independently.

pliant hatch
#

It gives you an immediate boost to your stamina, without penalty to your health generation.
But downside of it is that it has a cooldown timer.

crude yacht
#

You can use both...stam and health...they are kind of like instant use type potions. Use them when you're low on health or stam, then you gotta wait 2 minutes till you can use them again.

#

But you can use both at the same time. You have to wait 2 minutes to use the same type of mead again.

desert tangle
#

gotcha. as for armor wise is it worth upgrading or am i fine with the regular troll armor?

#

and for finewood bow aswell

crude yacht
#

I used Troll Armor...make sure to upgrade it.

pliant hatch
#

Troll armor is fine.
While it doesn't have the high armor rating Bronze Armor has, you won't have the movement penalty.

#

And if you intend to use a bow, being able to use the movement speed over being able to absorb more damage would - imho - being the better choice.

crude yacht
#

How do you make mincemeat again?

pliant hatch
#

Boar meat, necktail and one of the mushrooms, I think.

crude yacht
#

Crap...I've had it in my menu the entire time...just didn't notice it till now.

pliant hatch
#

It's at the cauldron as a recipe the moment you have the ingredients unlocked.

desert tangle
desert tangle
pliant hatch
#

Simply upgrade your forge and workbench to their current maximum.
After that do the same thing with your weapons and armor.

iirc you'll end up with lvl 3 weapons and armor, which should be sufficient enough.

crude yacht
#

If you know what you're doing, you can probably fight him naked...if you don't know what to do or expect, then I would say upgrade as much as your patience allows. 😉

#

Also...the first time you go in, expect to die...then you won't ever be surprised, just disappointed when you don't die.

pliant hatch
#

If you want to cheese the fight, if the Altar of the Elder is high above waterlevel, you can mine out the area under it.
Gives you a solid spot to retreat in and regenerate your HP if / when needed.

There may be someone who has the same serverhost service and can provide some direction, but reaching out to your server's host directly (especially for a paid service) would be the best move, imo. That's what you are paying them for, right?

plush umbra
#

idk just dig a deep pit a good distance away and then extend it towards the pit while clinging to the wall, takes like 1-3 minutes
okay about 3-5 is more accurate

plain bane
#

Try two good health foods and one stamina, pop a poison resist mead, get just close enough til you hear one aggro and back up a safe distance, straffe to avoid tar jets while closing in then clock it with a blunt object.

Repeat til the oozes are dead then chisel a drainage ditch to drain the pit

#

I do wish oozes were more farmable, though. They respawn but the drop rate isn't usually worth setting up a portal.

tulip patrol

lol that deathskito tried to prick me and got pickaxed instead XD

plain bane

Heheh

#

Punching them is fun too

#

Next goal: kick a squito to death

plush umbra
#

the game generally encourages you to go out and find new sources of stuff instead of farming something in one place (except crops of course) so the inefficient farmability makes sense.
you get a whole lot of tar per pit too so i've never been too bothered by the grind

tulip patrol
#

how much damage does kicking do, they dont have much health you probably kick it in shot

plain bane
#

I have inconsistent luck with tar pits. Either I get like 5 stacked on top of each other and die repeatedly trying to clear it out, or go an entire map seeing maybe 1 or 2 pits total

ah yea, one of the 3 tar pit variations you can find has 4 holes but doesn't seem to have more pickable tar than the other two single-hole pits

maiden granite
#

I have tried optimization mods,
Those makes the game render abnormal lighting and makes eyes hurt.

#

You can adjust the vanilla game setting "render scale".
Lowering it makes the game look blurry but increases fps.

I get 9 FPS with 100 render scale and around 60 FPS with 50 render scale

So I can choose to render parts of the base...

Salad does better healing and has better overall stats than bread, and I'm never away from home long enough to need more than a stack of 10. It's worth the tradeoff for me at least.

merry pebble

the only "difficult" thing about omelette is picking up eggs if you have just a pen for chickens and not a farm designed to roll all the eggs to one place, but i can easily live with that 😄

Yeah... I haven't figured out how to build an egg factory, tried following some Youtube tutorials and they didn't work, so I end up having to putter around the base while the chickens eat and regularly collect their eggs so they keep laying. Even on standard play, I usually keep some metals (copper, bronze, iron, BM) and some other materials in my longship. It’s a ton of space, might as well use it!

frigid gust
#

Definitely bring copper and bronze with you, and maybe some tin for a cauldron then. That should get you a full forge setup wherever you go, pocket full of surtling cores, you should hopefully be able to gather everything else necessary wherever you end up.

#

No portals will kind of imply a lot more resource gathering at destinations and rebuilding of various stations as you get places. The longboat will give you a lot more cargo space for you to not need to do that, but up front with the karve you've got some limitations. I'd also suggest trying to stay on land 😛

Holding left click (basic attack button) while you're adjacent to one, and dodge roll before they land an attack on you

Although, I did restart from scratch few weeks ago because those saves were already 2 years old

boneass is hard but it can be cheesed and there is nothing it can do

#

but this one just sucks to fight close quarters, it also sucks to fight long range cuz it is resistant to pierce

nocturne wolf
#

Bonemass isnt too bad with a mace and either banded shield or iron tower shield. There’s no point parrying bosses, rolling uses less stamina and you take less damage.

frigid gust
merry pebble
nocturne wolf
#

Even when blocking, not parrying?

merry pebble
#

you only need the parry

nocturne wolf
#

Bonemass is a boss, he can’t be staggered.

merry pebble

but can be parried

nocturne wolf
#

Blocking uses much less stamina, and rolling still uses less stamina and avoids all damage

paper marsh
#

^

#

I don’t see the point in a shield for boss fights

frigid gust
#

The only benefit of parrying bosses is it lets you block more damage than just a normal block does, but if you can block it straight up you're correct. Bosses cannot be stunned.

nocturne wolf
#

I like how this game has downsides to parrying instead of it being something you should always do when possible

frigid gust
#

No downsides to rolling 🦾

nocturne wolf
#

Fighting 4 wolves at once while only avoiding damage by parrying is a very easy way to die, because you’ll run out of stamina so fast.
This is why I have only ever made one iron buckler

half dragon
#

Think they made parrying too punishing. I haven't bothered to parry at all against normal enemies because why would you when you can just hit them first? With exception of big enemies like trolls, golems ect.

nocturne wolf
#

Parrying is very powerful when fighting a single target to increase dps, or when fighting a group to separate enemies.

half dragon
#

doesn't really increase dps in most cases when in same time it takes to block/parry, you can already hit twice

#

does make sense for enemies that are more resistant to staggering tho, like draugr elites
