it is still a massive pain in the arse to fight the abomination, which i have to kite to nearby Meadows so it aggros the Neck and Boars which give me more chance to recompose and recover myself before flinging more fire arrow / going in for the parry and sword attack

parrying abomination is either one of the hardest thing i ever do or trivial, depends on how lucky i am

Jump on top of the serpent and unload spears into it until it dies. When it pops you should fall in and scoop everything up. Fastest way to get Serpent trophies I've found. Get up next to it and jump when it rears up to angry yell.

It is so hard to kill a serpent, i dragged it to the shore with the harpoon but then out of stamina, it fled to the ocean again

and that's why i just leave the harpoon at home, lure them to shallows (don't go too fast, it loses interest if it doesn't get to bite for some amount of time), park at the shore, jump off and shoot it or hit it from the shallows.
as long as it's not an extremely steep shore, the scales and trophy should be reachable by jumping into the water.

to me, the harpoon is a tool to kill birds without spending ammo and that's it :>
(also transporting tamed boars but i've never had to do that.)

Yeah using a harpoon to get sneks to shallow water is just a waste of stamina. Shooting arrows at them works just as well and is easier.

if the shore's not too steep, you can usually get to a point where you can swing at them with melee weapons, just gotta be ready for the bite (which has a cooldown, so keep swinging immediately after)

Lure it close to the shore, jump to shore, harpoon it, drag it as far on land as possible - no matter if your stamina runs out or not - fight it with either a bow or melee weapons and wait for your stamina to regain; with or without potion. But best to drink that potion the moment you harpoon that serpent again, as it will benefit you the most.
Drag it back on land as far as possible fight it. Usually at this point you kill it.

I've been killing about a dozen serpents this way and it never failed.

You can kill it wherever you want it. Even in a mining pit you created before.

Key is not to drag it while sailing. Key is to make sure the serpent follows you close enough to the shore to give you the opportunity to drag it on land.

If you spend too much time using the harpoon to get it even close to land, yeah, you will always run short of stamina. Even while using 3 stamina food and the two meads to boost it.

It's actually quite easy.
Each and every piece of a skeleton you see is providing you with black marble.
The skulls provide you with black marble and soft tissue.
The roots provide you with sap; which needs to be harvested with an extractor you can "borrow" from the Dvergr.
The trees provide you with the Yggdrasil wood and best spots to cut those down are at the top of the ridges.
There are sword and helmet remains to give you metals.
Some of the creatures give you ingredients for food, armor or weapons.
And you need to find only one specimen of the two plants to start a farm.

The real killer in that area are the pieces of the seal breaker and the cores as you need to explore multiple invested mines for that.

Fun fact: you can walk in a circle around wraiths and they won't attack you. As long as you don't have other threats to deal with it's a good opportunity to regain stamina if needed. Dodge rolling is also a good tactic to learn, helps avoid being hit and lets you close the gap to get attacks in. Also doubles as a way to back away safely if you need to get away from an attack, as long as the timing is right.

personally, I'm a big fan of skipping Bonemass to avoid the "you're being hunted" event from triggering. Its pretty easy to find silver in the mountains without the wishbone tbh. The trick is to find a stone golem, trap it in a pit with the harpoon, then pull out a stagbreaker and start "prospecting" by bashing it into the ground until you get a "too hard" message. So long as there is no obsidian in the area, the "too hard" indicates silver below ground. I think its totally worth this added difficulty to avoid the "hunted" event!

I still feel like Trolls are the biggest big boi threat for any biome. Those things have mad speed, damage, and reach. By the time I'm in plains my run skill is good enough to not struggle with lox much, plus they don't fully aggro on you until you're touching their face

Agreed. Trolls are probably the biggest difficulty-spike in the game relative to the level of progression you face them at. Not even Seeker Soldiers (troll equivalent for the mistlands) come close!

Most CC ignored some of the things we found in Mistlands, either because we already had them from other biomes, or because they weren't considered interesting enough.
I'm sure you will miss a lot of thing not related to monsters, fighting and traversing in that area in the first videos; simply because the CC want views.

Clear out the terrain a bit first? Flatten some ground? You can hide behind rocks to soak up a few attacks. Have you got enough health pots? Frost resist?

I dunno if you consider it as cheesing it or not; but there is often some room available to be mined out under her altar. Just enough for a campfire and perhaps a workbench, but that's about it.
With if, you have a zone to retreat in and get your rested bonus again, but also make it possible to use the entrance trench to attack her with ranged weapons.

If you don't think it's cheesing it, it may be an option to use it.
If you do; well it's an option for another time. 😉

I've had a Wolf raid targetting me while I was sailing at the middle of the ocean.
I've also had a troll raid happening to me when I was setting up the 2nd portal near the spawn at my old temporary house. There are some requirements, which can even get to you when you aren't at your base.

But to most players when they're asked if they're at their "base", it's the main location. Not the spot where they just have a workbench, fireplace and a bed because they needed shelter while exploring.

This is about raids, so for the game a 3m² camp is the exact same as your 3km² city. What we consider a base or not doesn't matter when it comes to the raids that can spawn

the root mask's poison resistance is 50%, the mead's is 75%, and they don't stack so mask + mead is still just 75%.
still, 50% is already a lot and can save a bunch of poison res meads if you play careful enough to make it work.

Before you even start the fight, bring a hoe and raise the surrounding land above water level.
Makes it a lot easier to move around.
Also check for the indestructible trees nearby and whether or not you can get onto them. They may help you if the fight gets a bit overwhelming.
And finally, bring a bow and your best arrows. While Bonemass can't damaged much with a bow, you never know what else joins that fight which can be killed with a bow.

don't have to worry about bonemass attacking you while you do that if you've just walked away from it to deal with the other enemies, which i do the moment i notice it throwing new ones.

Problem is, if the fight takes too long, there's the chance other monsters will join it as they're drawn to the noise.

And when running around and taking a wrong turn, ending up close to a tree blocking you isn't fun either.

if you clear the area of any rocks and destructible trees beforehand, it should be easy to lead bonemass in a circle around the altar and not have it hit anything noisy

For the first fight, it's always better to have a safe spot to retreat to, instead of running away and having no time to prepare the battleground.

Later, when a player gets more experienced with that boss, it's easier to fight it one-on-one with the occasional sidestep to deal with any minnions thrown at you.

so bonemass is fairly easy as long as you have recommended gear. Your main weapon should be the iron mace and a buckler, I pretty much never used my bow during the fight. Make sure you have healing and poison meads. You wanna get close to bonemass and just block/parry and dodge his attacks, you can get aboout 3-4 hits in between attacks. I personally didnt clear the area and i still beat him first try, but its still helpful to do so. The reason you don't wanna use your bow much on him is because he's strong against pierce and slash, but hes really weak to blunt, which is why you should use a mace. Like winter said, you should just walk up to an enemy and smack them. bonemass is too slow to follow you, worst case scenario, run and use your bow on them. But as long as you have swamp gear you should be a-okay

also, I had level one iron armor and a level 3 iron mace i believe. So you don't really need to upgrade your armor, mainly your weapon for him.

The problem with that fight isn't Bonemass, the problem with that fight are the minions he spawns.

If you ignore them for too long, you are swarmed, meaning you will have to deal with them.
Also meaning, the moment you deal with them, you can't deal with Bonemass, making it easier for it to spawn even more minions.

And unlike Bonemass, at least one of the minions can be killed with a bow; although for both of them blunt weapons are best.

Hence my advise to have a safe spot to retreat to, as even the minions can't follow you there, but you can pick them off using the arrows.

As for gear, with the introduction of root armor, the fight got a lot easier.

when you have lvl3 or 4 iron mace it takes like 3-4 hits max to kill the blobs and skeletons he spawns, its not that short of a window between him spawning the minions

The mobs in swamp is like sponge, it isnt threatening on its own but it saps ur attention away

And if u ignore sponge for too long, it absorbs your attention fully while you need to fight the actual threat

Yes and yes! Fenring armor is some of the best armor in the game! Getting +9% movement speed is godlike. Its my favorite set, and I play it through the Mistlands. So very, very good! Try it out, you'll love it

The extra speed allows for a third type of evasion (other than block/parry and dodge). You can simply strafe to avoid hits. Dance around enemies and hit them from the side or from behind

Was showing a friend around at my main base and an outpost I made in one of my games, opened the door of the plains outpost and immediately got attacked by a couple of ticks.
Just a fraction of a second after I said he could take the portal, as the house was safe.

Managed to kill the first tick, rush outside, block the second, close the door and finish off the rest, knowing that a player with troll armor, a bronze sword and a bronze buckler wouldn't stand a chance at all against those monsters.

Was almost relieved when I noticed there weren't any fullings or other creatures around to attack us.

Nah, did that yesterday when I was recording my progress.
Killed lots of creatures in the Swamp, even an abomination and got killed by a Wraith because I hadn't seen that one approaching when I was going to collect some ancient bark from the log the abomination had "cut down".
And of course, my corpse was almost the full length of the swamp from the portal while it was night as well.

The "problem" is that nowadays it's become pretty "normal" to enter unprotected servers - of any game - destroy items build, loot items which are valuable or even destroy the name / reputation of the owner of the server.

To counter that, the dev's of this game advise or recommend - depends at how you look at it - to use the password protection when runing a private own server.

You refuse to do that because you claim it's a "public server", but at the same time refuse to use any tools others recommend to use because you claim it's the dev's fault.

Like:

You remove the door of your house and then blame the construction company for not providing you with tools to have complete strangers and morons entering it.
