I've always played solo and would like to play with other players in a chill, respectful and fun environment. My problem might be that I play on Xbox. I've run into some pretty bad online behavior extreme racism, political extremism, excessive vaping into the microphone. Is it any better within the PC community? Considering switching over if that's the case.

I run two dedicated servers and they’re both crossplay enabled. We’ve had a mix of PC and Xbox players. Like has already been mentioned, maybe you were just unfortunate with the server you joined. Majority of players are decent imo.

So I thought it would be a good idea to outline the border of the Swamp before actually going in. Moved from the Meadows to the Black Forest and eventually to the border of the Swamp. Within 90 minutes I encoutered 3 Greydwarf Brutes, a single 2* Greydwarf and two of his 1* brothers (or sisters, can't tell the difference as they're all butt-ugly to me) about a dozen common Greydwarves, 8 skelletons, of which two were a 1* and one of those was a ranged one, 4 Draugr - including two ranged ones - 3 Leeches, a single Blog and to top it off, an Abomination.

Went in with 130-ish flinthead arrows and 200 fire arrows. Left with my bronze mace, bronze buckler and finewood bow left with 10% durability, my bronze axe with 25% durability and 34 fire arrows and about 90 flinthead arrows.

In short, it was just an ordinary day in Valheim. 😄

But..... I got the abomination trophy from that kill, so at least luck was at my side.

Correct, the only places you might find ore in the ground is the swamp for a bit of iron here and there and the mountains for silver but those deposits are all rather close to the surface.

There is a thing called raid events, they can trigger if you are near (meaning 40m or less) 3 player based structures.
There is a 20% chance to trigger one every 46 minutes apparently.

I play on a server where they don't even let you terraform the ground you can't do Earthworks, like moat building, or raised walls.

It's usually just a good idea to log out if you know you're not going to be playing for an extended period of time

Well if you're ever looking for immersion I would check out some of the role-play servers around here, currently I'm pretty dedicated to vrp they've got a pretty strict portal policy and most of your traveling is done by boat. It's pretty fun cuz you'll meet up with guys that like play their guitars and sing songs while you're on an hour-long boat ride to the mountains

That hasn't been the case since about 2021 and was one of the first major bug fixes the devs did. Instance count is still a big issue though.

I don't know about all that, perhaps it's just the sheer volume of players. But we've noticed as time goes on the server becomes more slogged and it's because of all the terraforming that happens throughout the season.

I've seen people play as Farmers on our role play server and they'll start off in an area with an instance count of like 4000, but after planting and picking all your veggies half a dozen times it's steadily goes up. Just like anytime you plan to tree and cut a tree and replant a tree then cut the tree and plant the tree and recut the tree.

We're told it adds layers

But I don't know how any of that works I'm just a big dummy who enjoys playing the game that all sounds like Tech Wizardry shit to me

I think all plants need the same amount of space. But it is important to notice that they are all coded to be the same size and thus although barley LOOKS like it takes up a lot more space, it's the same size as like an onion. So it looks like your barley is touching each other, but their hitbox/growth box is a lot smaller than the visual

it was a bit tough, we didnt take any healing potions and to start with we got battered and had to retreat to a crypt. Then we worked out a battle plan where one aggro'd and blocks the melee while the other 2 smack the crap out of it then everyone runs when he belches poison. In the end it was relatively comfortable once we had a pattern down

Resource delivery from raids is kinda nice, but you really gotta set up some defenses for the incessant raids

It can be quite nice. I've started liking it a little bit less tho because I feel like the most powerful resistance is pierce, and you can already get that from Root Harnesk. The other enemies typically aren't AS dangerous

I never knew how much preparation Valheim required until I started playing no map / no portals

Wolves do slash and the golem is probably blunt? That's what scares me most right now. But pierce alone should be fine for plains

I don't think I can go back to map+portal play. So much to do with paths and making many bases when you're running blind

Wolves do slash, golems do blunt or pierce depending on the kind of golem.

Yea wolves are dangerous. Golems I find easy to outdistance and run away from though. I don't bother with fighting them because I can't parry them and don't have a blunt weapon

Regular difficulty, I dodge-roll toward the Golems when they attack so I miss all damage, and then do the secondary attack with an iron mace and it staggers them. They go down pretty quickly with that technique.

BUT, they can spawn in a storm, and then stay around in the area after the storm passes. Storm serpents dont despawn

50% slower health regen for 10s is a low price to pay for a huge stamina regen boost to get more attacks in, or run much further/faster. But it depends a lot on how you play... Valheim really rewards dodge rolling and not tanking damage, so it's pure profit as a potion as far as I'm concerned

i commend the devs for making iron mining a bit less tedious, it consumes way less stamina, because mining copper is just the worst, i would rather open devcommands and cheat myself past bronze age if i ever begin a 2nd playthru

Yagluth is also resistant to piercing and immune to poison, so the only worthwhile arrows are frost arrows, and that's only barely. Melee is the best way to deal with it.

Better pickaxes make the mining faster, and you can also turn resource rate up to make it less tedious. I use 1.5x in general, feels just the right level of grindy for my tastes.

Yes, some of the later game recipes still need, carrots, turnips and onions.
Having one big farm that grows 5 of the 7 crops needed for cooking is way easier than having more farms.
So I make a farm in the plains and plant carrots, turnips, onions, barley and flax there.
I'll also have a portal near that connects to my mistland farm for the magecaps and jotun puffs.

If you really just want the tears easiest thing would probably be to go on one of your own worlds, setting world modifier to free build, build the artisan table, then deconstruct it. Think that should give the tear

So when you were in Hammer free build you still have to have held it at least once and it does not drop materials for things broken I just got my black forge up and running in my solo game

it's entirely rng, you can spot one the moment you spot a swamp, or be looking in several without luck, usually within 4 or 5 swamps at most you'll find some

Funny thing the seed me and my friend on that hardcore mode was on, I got onions really early cuz I ran up the mountain to attract wolf for wolf taming but my dumbass friend let's the onions gets destroyed in a raid while I was offline

Also for bow training just get bonemass build an archery training station up in the trees where he can't reach you get like 1000 wood arrows

I hate those patches in the ground if you raise the ground and level it

You sometimes need to add material with the "raise ground" function of the hoe using rocks in range of a workbench, or use a pickaxe to lower the ground. Using the hoe can only do so much off the base ground level.

depressions can be treated by raising ground 1 click then flattening with the hoe, and mounds can be treated with the pickaxe, applies to every bit of terrain in the game that doesn't come into contact with the dig limit/raise ground limit +/-8m

pancake flat is possible pretty much everywhere

most important to know that the hoe only flattens to within 0.5m so the rest has to be pickaxed

(and way more tricky than it should really be)
