For some reason I've been more successful getting vile trophies than bear, despite viles being rarer and both having same drop rate.
-# 36 bears for 1 trophy in run I started during PTB, then maybe 2 or 3 viles for 1 of their trophy.

Vile trophy seems more useful to me personally, but I wouldn't be surprised if most disagree

I prefer the HP regen trinket myself, with stamina being refunded in a lot of cases, I rarely have the need for additional regen. This is also a tad awkward considering you cannot regen while using stamina, and this makes the hp regen more forgiving of a bonus in my eyes.

Yeah, but what are the actual numbers there? My heavy armor keeps me alive versus those hits pretty well too, plus reduces damage against everything. Plus the armor value is much higher than Root. So is the number of HP loss reduced by that much more than the heavy armors by the time you have those sets?

Again, better to wait for better armor, but use shields to block them, and poison resistance mead, or the root piece, to make them less damaging.

If it's your second run, the only time delay in dropping Eikthyr is just collecting the actual trophies.
Because you should be more than skilled enough to drop him with the wooden bat and the bare minimum food.

my first playthrough I went straight heavy armor for each biome, and maxed it before I moved on, second character I used root harnesk and never upgraded armor and it was way easier, first the draugr archers are trivialized, not so useful in the mountains but plains and mist its super good, and the fire weakness you can compensate for, surprised it hasn't been nerfed actually.

I agree its really good in Swamps. It is the biome its meant for. My wife, until recently, wore the entire set all the way until Ashlands. So she is a fan of it as well.

There's usually a cold fireplace, a fishing rod with a bit of bait, maybe a skeleton, and a stone golem or two.

Honestly, in my experience, they're more rare than the tetra lakes.

that's because there are two tetra lake rooms, an extremely rare one and a pretty common one that was added in a later update to make tetras less absurdly rare, the rare reputation is left over from the caves' original state when they actually were the rarest thing you could find in frost caves (vaguely remember it being something like a 1 in 200 or 400 chance for the og tetra room)

well, i don't know if that lake room shape exists unfrozen, but i do know that there are two thawed lake rooms.
there's the common one, a small opening to a small room that's entirely filled with water, and i'm pretty sure the og tetra room is either small or medium-sized (i can't remember, i've seen that room once early on before i knew about tetras and assumed it was a trap, turned around and forgot where it was)
it's more vertical, having a stone stair going along the walls directly down into the water, but it's notably not as wide or deep as the frozen lake rooms. the stairway going directly into the water is why i assumed it was a trap 😅 figured i'd go down there and then be stuck, so i just ignored it. since that was the only time i've ever seen it (despite several sessions of spawning frost cave after frost cave to find it again) the details are a bit fuzzy in my head

Oh ok, so never got the small one at the bottom of stairs, just some little tetra rooms and quite a bunch of big frozen ones with golem and free fishing rod, 2 of them just in my very first search for a full lvl 4 fenris set, rng was on my side about big lakes apparently

ngl, the more I play past the early game(I often get caught up just making stuff once I get to swamp and unlock stone and wood) I am increasingly feeling like plains and mountains should really be swapped in progression.

PLains often nearly or entirely encircle mountains and are radically more dangerous and accessible

The only thing that's more of a threat in mountains is the weather, but that's solved a handful of different ways very easily.

That, and I really wish that black iron and iron were also swapped in progression. Iron can be used in huge quantities for cosmetics, but can only be reliably found in limited POIs(I know they're practically unlimited, but I mean in terms of exploration done compared to amount of iron procured), whereas blackmetal drops like crazy from common enemies in the plains, and has preciously few uses compared to the quantitiy it's easy to end up with without even trying.

I dunno if there's like, a massively easier iron source after the mountains, admittedly, cuz I've not made it that far, but it's just something I've been thinking about as I play around.

The mod adds snapping options for aligning your crops and higher levels let you plant/harvest more at a time, and the capstone perk bypasses biome restrictions.

From what I can tell, vanilla behavior matches that more or less, but I assume the devs would never allow that last part.

Hrm. Seems vanilla requires the use of a scythe to AoE harvest and it doesn't have grid-snap planting behavior. I'll probably stick with the mod and just tune down the exp gain.

Gonna ignore the biome bypass because the Plains are pretty and it's nice to have a reason to go there. Again, might change my tune the first time I encounter a Vile...

Also before you anger them, it's good to make an assessment of each ones threat level. If there's a 2 star ice mage and 3 rogues, you wanna make sure you go all in on killing that dangerous ice mage on your first few hits, before it can retaliate. Drinking fire resist and using a frost resist cape will be helpful too

You probably have spawners near by that you need to destroy. You will still get a lot of mobs afterwards, but it will be fewer of them.

It is legendarily grindy, even with the RNG removed.

Also the politics/economics/espionage between player factions gets a bit much. Combat's fun, and being able to shutdown/save systems by things like trading or fighting in theit wars to manipulate the backend.

I own a lot of games I have never played. I get them typically for two reasons. 1. They were part of Humble Bundle monthly. 2. They looked good to me and were seriously discounted via a sale some where. 3. They were a freebie via my Amazon account.

So 3 reasons.

Speaking of which, I need to check my December freebies on Amazon. See if I want any of them.

...sidenote, I really wish the Old Meadows variant theme was in the game. I have it set to play whenever it rains in meadows and sometimes do nothing but listen on the porch until it passes.
