Stone portals are one of the worst things to exist because of world modifiers, even if they didn't have WM, you get the portals at Ashlands.... 🤨

Just my opinion about stone portals, don't take it as a "YOU ARE WRONG" or anything (btw your opinion is respectable and i see the logic inside) but I just wanted to soften the "mistake" word, knowing all people can't spend a lot of time in videogames and may have stopped Valheim without this build piece.
Considering how difficult it is to sail in Ashlands and the fact that the last two biomes are at opposite positions, stone portal seem to me a good idea :
- Without them, players would be forced to either
- move their main base south and then north, a process that can't be fun.
- Sail for very long times, having to suffer the Ashlands landing minigame a lot of time (I love this part of the game, but I love it ONCE, not a hundred times).
- They look cool, and having the ability to build a better portal when entering the "magical fantasy" part of Valheim feel logical.
- Players like me that can't play a lot of time are able to concentrate their time on "how to fight all these mobs" instead of just sailing during their entire game session.
On the other hand, not having these portals would force players to do cool things, such as building forges inside ashlands able to craft weapons directly, which would be a interesting part of the game BUT maybe annoying considering how numerous the threats are. Also, players who have the patience and the time to farm are able to teleport anything anywhere, as well as those using a pocket portal strategies .
So, I don't think stone portals were a mistake, and I am quite happy with them, but they have bad sides and where not necessary for the game.

I am glad stone portals weren't added before ashlands, it was THE exact time to add them. Right at the time you need to travel half the map to get your resources, right after discovering the fantasy magical part of the world... just at the good time.

Also, we have to remember Valheim is RNG and allow players to do things they were not intended to do. Pocket portals and others technics are useful but a little game breaking
but these methods are game breaking for people using them. Others are free to play the game as intended, and game experience is very well designed when playing this way.

yea but most people tend to play the game solo so they won't ever get to try this, so the other way to get to Ashlands is by using potions, and buildings

My take on stone portals is they weren’t needed. You can bring all the crafting equipment and supplies into Ashlands to process flametal locally in the massive new boat they gave us. I love sailing but found myself using the stone portals for the convenience. I don’t use the world mod to stop metals. But the biggest downside I found is that it turned Ashlands into an instance essentially for me, we lost the sailing around exploration element and Ashlands felt detached from the rest of the world. I really enjoyed sailing around the various mistlands biomes but that is missing with Ashlands mostly, because of the stone portals.

Yeah it's kinda startling just how simple it is to pull it off once you know what you're doing. I feel like increasing the boiling water damage to ships could help alleviate that but even then you'd probably be able to get to the pillars before the ship breaks

Increasing damage of boiling water may be spot on. We wouldn't want to decrease the health of the longship. Just make it so the proper ship has to be used.

I like that idea but also maybe the spikes could spawn in "rings" around each of the Ashland's islands to give a sense of center and destination. These rings would also help deter workbench users with being farther apart than randomly placed spikes
I also very much agree with vMatt on the whole portal discussion. From the very beginning of landing in the Ashland's my boat was destroyed and took 3 boat attempts just to sail into the Ashland's. Doing this multiple times to transport flametal and other non-teleportable items would be horrendous. Further more almost all players main bases are near to map center and without stone portals sailing metals that far would take ages. This would also disadvantage users with bad internet as whenever someone in my server crashes while sailing they spawn in the middle of the sea with the boat far from them. This results in many trips getting loot back from the ocean and just not a fun time. Even more so, users would want to transport large amounts of these metals to save time but even one failed trip would result in 10s of hours lost because of materials burning the in the boiling water. Just my take not saying anybody's smart or not.

Battleaxes have higher stagger multiplier for its hits. There are 2 downsides tho: 1. High movement speed penalty and 2. Lack of them in game. 🥲

Comparing iron versions: Battleaxe uses 16 stamina and Iron argeir uses 14 stamina.
But yeah primary attacks have 1,5x stagger multiplier, some knockback and have no MTP which makes them good against groups.

2 pieces of Fenris armor and an Atgeir u are at 1% movement speed, but if u have all 3 with a Battle axe u are at -11% which is a big difference in speed so you would use heavy armor with battle axes imo

Well, I've used mainly clubs, axes and spears in my latest saves and also used some more battleaxe and started to like them much more than before.
For groups it is quite good for the reasons I listed above and also against some bigger targets like Abominations and Fuling berserkers, quite comfortably I have been able to keep them stunlocked starting with secondary hits until staggered and following up with primary hits.
And Crystal battleaxe has been quite good also in Ashlands thanks to its extra spirit damage.

Interesting, I especially like that we can build on the spires very close to shore like a sniping platform, but if that is going away and the repairing boat on the go will have to adapt, will make Ashlands exploration a bit harder not having ability to stop and repair, and make Bonemaw much bigger threat. For solo play definitely will have to adapt. With current settings I recently did manage to make it to Ashlands with the longboat which I know was not intended

the barrier is absolutely amazing but it gets kinda annoying when everything oneshots it
due to it taking chop and pickaxe damage too, which makes no sense
even at max level it still gets oneshot by the elder
what could be nice would be some sort of magic armor that increases defense for a number of hits maybe
better yet, a magic that makes a temporary physical barrier, maybe if youre trying to run from a horde of morgens

I did notice that when I destroyed the gates. I made sure my main base has lots of iron tho before moving to the mountains. I have 2 full reinforced chests currently of iron bars. I feel like this still isn’t enough😂

when it comes to the gameplay, i think so too. but i'm not sure if they can pull off crossplay (consoles–PC). that takes expertise that team might not have. but they have a publisher that might help out, so it's probably no problem...

about half of them stay after the green rain, but all the ones in pelican town will disappear on the next day, so even if you care about them decoratively (like i do), the ones that appear in town are just free wood since they'll disappear anyway

When you pick up a new material, the list of newly unlocked crafting recipes flashes up on screen briefly, and then goes away. Generally when that happens, I'm out in the wild and don't have time to safely read it. Is there a way to get that list back?

You can look into hammer and crafting stations for stuff you havent see before 🤔 but i dontt think you can see list of things that unlocked after it shows in the top left
Or you can look at wiki since each material has list of things that it is used in, but there might be some spoilers if here is another material needed you didnt unlock yet

Well you said its vegetarian rule set right? As far as i understand it vegetarians typically avoid eating meat but may consume some animal products such as dairy and eggs, while vegan diet excludes all meat and animal products (meat, poultry, fish, seafood, dairy and eggs).

but for raspberries or mushrooms it requires labour and i dont wanna do mandatory chores bc i spent too much time standing and thinking how i wanna build this house
its not that food is unnecessary, 25 stamina + honey is fine for building but chopping wood and doing stuff in meadows/black forest is miserable
