I was hiking with my brother and five year old nephew today, and realized my computer case is almost five times as old as my nephew is. It was a strange thing to be thinking about while I was sunk in muck up to my knees and trying to pull him out of (for him) stomach deep muck, without losing his shoes.

It was a situation that was repeated many more times through the day. The best was when he wouldn't put down the dead, dried out fish he insisted on carrying (we were walking a river bed).

It reminded me of my insistence upon using the same computer case for the past 24 years (with lots of cutting, drilling, and tack welding to make things work through the years).

I have a lot of reasons I could give for ark both bad and good, but if I'm only saying good it depends on which one.

Ascended has amazing building capability, a good UI and more difficult taming which makes it more engaging. The caves are hard, it's kept the spirit of the original by making it difficult, and you have to find shit out for yourself. It's like the doom games, it throws you in, and says "you've played a game before good luck" and I will always love ark for that.

The server is not CPU-heavy after the world generation is done. Instead, it will load all data into memory, so it will use a considerable amount there. In general, a fresh world usually uses around 1.8–2.4 GB of RAM, each loaded areas (where players are active) take around 100–300 MB, but high-instance areas could demand a lot more. Whenever someone enters a new area, the server will generate that on the fly—at times of exploration the CPU load can be demanding.

Hmm so I have a computer related question. I’m a little slow, so bear with me lol.

I’ve found my Valheim world folder… kind of. I can only access it if I search it, however. It goes something like this, I search “%appdata%” which brings me to a folder labeled roaming. I go back to AppData, I go to Localow > Irongate > Valheim > WorldsLocal. All is well.

However, starting from Appdata, if I go back a folder (folder name is my name) I can’t move forward into AppData?? Why is that?

Night is correct, but also rainy weather. There will be a message "Wisps are coming" which is a sign they will appear soon.

There's a few videos on YouTube where the devs answered some questions on the deep north 1.0 update. Quick search should yield results. Was a pretty good watch. Can't wait for the update. I secretly was hoping deep north came before Ashland lmao. But I'm glad they did it this way. They said "it'll be a more casual ending to the game" from the quicks pictures they showed of concept it's going to be amazing.

How does "discovery" work in this game ? Is an island consider discovered if you slightly sail by it and clear a little fog of war or do you have to touch ground ?

your game will physically generate the world in a 300-500m radius around you, which is quite a bit more beyond your minimap range

also note that the game doesn't segment the world by islands but rather by chunks - 64x64 meter squares, similar to MC

if you can see trees and rocks in the distance, then that chunk has been generated, but the bare terrain beyond that isn't necessarily generated yet. the game uses some trickery to let you view low detail terrain before it really "exists" yet

it's the easiest biome to find due to its unique shape making it very apparent even in low detail terrain, and with a pretty tight distance range

and its generation conditions almost guarantee that it always touches ocean for easy ship access and view
