I was adverse to early access for a long time before I played Valheim. But, I think the Valheim approach of "We've completed this bit and you can play it, but the game itself isn't complete" is very different (and better) to the "Here's a complete game that we tested while drunk and blind-folded, but we're releasing as 'early access' so you chumps can be free play-testers for us".

What I mean to say is: I like how Valheim approaches official release and 'June 30th' means nothing to me.

It's related to "instances" probably, that are affected by terraforming. But they did improve in the past year, I mean I had 16 FPS at launch in 2021

There can still be performance issues from having a very large base, with over 10-15k instances, and that's just an unfortunate limitation of the game engine and a side effect of being able to build and decorate like we can.

We have basically just been waiting on that so we could go back for another playthrough, but it was bad for us to the point we had to abandon a world and create our own lore of how we "mined the land dry and had to relocate to a new unexplored land" then Had to start a fresh world with minimal hole digging and we didn't have any issues after that but being a whole group of builders the lack of terraforming drove us away to await a fix

I would suggest at least one low-level like C/C++ where you will learn what memory management is really doing, something higher level like Java or C#, and scripting languages like PHP or Python. Knowing the full life cycle of a program and how the hardware interacts with the software will open a lot of doors.

Coming back to Valheim after a break, I run a GPortal dedicated server for a handful of friends. I have restarted my server, but each time I try to join the server it gives a "Incompatible version" error. Do I have to manually update gamefiles to bring my server up to current, or is that something GPortal does for the Valheim servers? If I have to ... I have forgotten where to even find the current files to update my GPortal server with?

Are you or your friends using the beta build? That's what happens when either the server is on the beta and your PC is not, or vice versa.

If you play on very hard the trolls are faster than you sprinting

I only bring that up because I was going to say yesterday how it’s just hard to find the sweet spot. Like you’ll have a normal mode that feels like fighting wet paper then you bump it up once and it’s the impossible game
