Well, the shield does give you ward threshold up to 1.55x your max health. That part of the ward won't decay, it'll just get eaten up by damage.
I think the power of that shield will depend on how easily you can get "out of combat"
Yea I agree. When I did the math earier with my rogue that has 5810 health, it was 9kish ward threshold. Was pretty nice to see

Does "Using an ability" count movement skills too? Because then that is just not going to feel good because you'll never get that ward back

Yeah, just run any permanent minion build, sacrifice your ability to use active buff skill and equip shield for immortality

thanks, i was hoping it wasnt a complete removal of ward retention while in combat and just meant you cannot gain new ward from using skills or killing enemies since that wouldnt be too broken, its the ward that you gain from using skills (like frostclaw) that usually enable you to stack crazy amounts of ward
So out of combat effects (I found out, I might be wrong) it's when a laps of time occurs when there are no mobs agro with you or minion. Dots do affect the out of battle since it will count as an agro to the player. Breaking items I don't know much but basic is, combat equal agro present.

It's similar, but different. Everyone in the party can get Gaze now, and Gaze can be stored up and spent a lot more efficiently, on top of harbinger needles and instability glyphs which are drops you can get solo or grouped that help you get Gaze faster, too.
So what classes are looking to be good in 1.1?

that'd be like 764K damage per tick (unless the calculation is incorrectly bloating the damage due to some incorrect formula, i.e. increasing the damage by 3% for every 1% increase of elemental damage i apply)

afaik there is no movement/Traversal skill in mage called "Spirit Step", there is Teleport, Flame Rush and some other skills that can be converted into traversal but no "Spirit Step"

the bane of evil node went from 1 flat spell dmg per 10% healing effectiveness to 1 per 20% in the LE planner. i asked the LE planner guy and he said it wasn't a mistake, it was in the data he was given.

Yes, Wrongwarp is still an insanely strong weapon. Even without any timelock, the stats it provides are massive and it is relatively low LPL
What does "They also do not cause existing shadows to expire" here mean?
what would yall say a good dps for end game is? is it poe-like 10 million dps?
"Doom" on an enemy is technically a damage multiplier right? Even though the tooltip says "increased" damage taken, it's a status on the enemy so it's effectively multiplicative yea?
Basically, this node makes the shadows that are part of the attack just be part of the attack and nothing more, they don't count toward your shadow limit (which is what would cause your existing shadows to expire) and don't stay around. The only thing they should still retain is being affected by modifiers to shadow damage.
It's multiplicative with your damage modifiers, but additive with other increased/reduced damage taken effects on the enemy.
(such as those applied by VR)

if you go crit you usually try to cap it but it's always a matter of balancing resources. The more you invest in a scaling avenue the less proportional effect it gives you, so having a healthy balance of all of them is the best way to go. Sometimes one avenue scales better than others and is worthwhile to invest more, but not always.

you invest in resources that give you + base crit and then get increased crit. that's how you cap crit in ARPGs

look at the skill tags and general combat mechanics to be informed, then it's a classic linear optimization problem boiling down to x+y+z <= const, x * y * z -> max
to which the TLDR is that you want to have average amounts of all the scaling factors rather than maxing one at the expense of all others

it's multiplicative with all other sources of damage reduction, including resists and any other less damage taken effects

also given the way how resists and mob penetration interact in LE, you aren't really reducing incoming damage with resistance, you are just avoiding bonus damage. For each 1% of resist below the cap, you only take 1% more damage
They said that all effects that spawn boulders will spawn small ones by default, unless stated otherwise, and the idol didn't get any updates to state otherwise
for crit you are usually looking at having at least one flat crit effect in your build, say, by using a 6% flat crit offhand. Then when your base is functionally 11%, scaling it with increased crit is much easier. Many skills have local flat crit somewhere in their trees too.
Say, there is a node in Harvest that gives it 50% flat crit

it means that any damage you take is reduced by 10%. Which is similar to how resistances work, in vacuum, but it's a wholly separate effect. You are probably overthinking it

generally flat damage reduction is the most powerful effect in this game, because your endgame progression is nearly always limited by survivability. However, 180 attributes isn't that hard to reach
bummer, we'll have to bank on the 20% chance to convert smalls into larges on intesity to get buffs and stuffs

It is approximately the amount when i feel confortable with t4 boss. Ofc you can kill them with much less dps and complete all challenge without this amount.

I played a Wraithlord build in 1.0, I think I'm going to try a Forge Guard this next cycle. I was super squishy as a necromancer, I'm thinking I'll go for high defenses and Warpath for a "spin to win" style gameplay. Probably stack on either Bleed or Shred effects...
Honestly tempted to play with the forge weapons now that they're getting a buff

I do like the synergy with all the shield skills and Warpath to pump your defenses sky high. I'm tired of dodging so much, lemme just soak/deflect/block/etc everything for a change. 😅
There's a skill for Warpath, Unchained, that lowers you mana cost for the skill by 2 points per rank, with a max of 5 ranks. It can become very mana efficient thankfully. 🙂

to be clear on that change:
The mana cost for channeling went up by 8, because mana regens while channeling when using it now. And base mana regen is 8. (so in practice it didnt change)
in 1.1 it'll be easier to deal with mana with warpath, as you can now benefit from mana regen nodes
(this'll potentially allow you to cover the mana cost of things like sigil of hopes easier/without vr)

hey me and a buddy were looking to play the next cycle, he's brand new to arpgs and ive played some LE before the first cycle but im a bit rusty. my buddy wants to play a minion build with multiple minions and im down to play anything, does anyone have any idea what builds will survive the patch?
the only minion builds that were significantly nerfed were wraithlord and zombies in general I think
otherwise the patch offers more opportunities there with buffs to forged weapons and a unique for a swarm of raptors. No major changes to other minion builds I think

My fastest 100 was roughly 20 hours but it was a very fast clearing build. I'd say consistent efficient players can probably get it done in like 30 hours fresh? I'm by no means the most efficient player, I ignore dungeon skips and generally don't use proper leveling builds.

I looked at the roadmap just to be sure, it's 1.3 and it's only side areas at that point. The devs made it sound like that will be where they develop the tech, and I imagine if they get it working well it will be expanded to more endgame stuff, but no promises on anything.

Guys anyone knows if the new Phantom Grip ring gives all options from gloves to the forget weapons. It's writen All stats, but i'm not sure what "stats" means. Is it like str, int etc or is it all of them including some things like frostbite on hit from frostbite shackless for example?
All affixes, with caviats:
Health to ward doesn't work on them.
They can be given stats (Str, Int), but can't do anything with them.
Most of the complicated stats don't work, like anything that does something unusual
like all proc/skill effects do nothing on minions
They can't be given attributes at all (won't even get the inc armor from strength, etc.)

No. The damage of a hit does not influence a DoT's damage.

They reworked how ward decays, so things shouldn't have absolutely insane amounts of ward now. Things that were under 4k ward have been buffed and things over 10k ward got nerfed.

Yes, though some minions will recalculate occasionally (either by time or when triggered to recalc). The falcon recalculates pretty often, for example.

you can use dungeons to skip some parts of the campaign. It's not much of an "alternative" though since you'll have to clear the entirety of the last act to catch up on idol slots
especially given that getting to chapter 9 is only a pressing concern on your first character

the feet on the map is just an indication, you do the dungeon as usual and when you beat the boss the back end of the dungeon will have an exit to an outdoor zone, you just use that

Generally speaking, cast delay is for delayed/repeated effects. 1 / cast delay will give you the rate that skill is cast at if it's a repeating thing; it's not affected by attack/cast speed.

Okay, so Dagger Dance.
Flat throwing is your priority, then physical, then dex. Probably crit multi on weapons where you can, though getting it to crit is gonna be tough.
Dagger Dance doesn't get used much because it takes way too much mana to sustain damage.
Umbral on the other hand, very good skill. Either as crit based or Shadow Daggers.

if you build hp, 900 is basically nothing, it's very close to baseline

you don't even need to kill shade in a level 58 mono

but if you are dying to oneshots, you have too little
respec your passives into all the defensives, bd gets for free more than many other classes can get in total

Yeah, that's about right. Crit is a bit wonky cuz you have to figure out your average mult if you don't have 100% crit chance. And I believe attack/cast speed is just another more mult equal to, well, whatever your attack/cast speed is.

I don't know what you mean by magic damage, but the only caps on damage modifiers (ignoring crit chance capped at 100%) are just whatever is numerically possible.
So:
141 Flat
120% effetiveness -> 169.2 total flat
1353 % increase -> 169.2 * (1 + 13.5) -> 2453,4
85 % more multi -> 2453,4 * (1 + 0.85) -> 4538,7
395 % crit multi (assuming 100% crit chance) -> 4538,7 * (1 + 3.95) -> 22467

you can do each quest step once you got enough stability for that specific breakpoint, once you've done the third(last) one the next timeline unlocks and you can move on
once you defeat the timeline boss the stability gets consumed so to speak so if you wanted to challenge that boss again you gotta farm up stability to that 3rd breakpoint again
this changes in empowered (lvl100) monoliths where you dont have the two quest steps before the boss and can jump right into the boss encounter

Because frankly things don't get "stronger and stronger" in the same way. Most of the bosses are simple, and have negative mechanical skill required. There's a small selection that have any strength in endgame and even then are hardly a danger until you're outside the intended range of the endgame.
On top of that, no matter how OP you get eventually the game will stop you due to how things scale.

do you know any arpg without level scaling and difficulty like Elden ring? I think path of exile might be the only one from what I saw. Peopel also said you dont feel like u get stronger at all in diablo 4.

unfortunately, the core of most modern arpgs is not skill expressive gameplay but building a mathematical model (dressed in more flavorful trappings like "gear" and "talents" and sh it) that would bulldoze through the challenges. The "correct" way to play most arpgs is not to learn every boss mechanic intuitively so that you can dodge every attack. It's to make a build that has 10000000000000000000000000000000 health so that you don't even need to know the mechanics.
I guess that would appeal to fans of progression anime though, in the same perverse manner of enjoyment
I mean that works for me if ITs still possible to die I like dying to things grinding and then coming back stronger
patch 1.0 had builds so OP that it was a significant challenge to die, but maybe 1.1 will be better in this regard

the top games with progression I played so far are Elden ring, sekiro, wandering sword, tales of arise and monster hunter.

Games usually opt to have some form of level scaling exactly because they want the content and gameplay to still pose an adequate challenge. Especially in genres like MMO that expect you to keep playing for years.
A lot of old school RPGs could be completed with very limited combat, or without any at all (Planescape Torment anyone?), so most definitely power progression and carefully balanced encounters weren't the priority.
I like it when they just make really op enemies like elden ring does u still feel the progression but there are smechallenges in the world

So, when looking for upgrades, mainly look there, because thats the one afix you wont be able to change. Is that correct?

Right -if you play trade (Merchant's Guild), legacy has a separate economy from cycle, so the only other thing you'll really miss out on is the fresh economy. And also you won't be able to group with cycle players, which is probably not a big deal.

If that's a 30% less attack speed multi, it's simply dps * 0.7. Net change counting the 60% more dmg and 30% less speed is 1.6 * 0.7 = 1.12, aka 12% more dps.

does melee inherently suck in this game like other arpgs? especially for bosses will it be difficult to kill ore dodge attacks if i am in melee range

analysis of the pinnacle boss from teh trailer and overview (as limited as what we see is) will mean you spend some amoutn of time effectively forced into melee range
(based on what we see in those videos, it would be like, nearly all the time, but there'll be more fight we dont see)

melee is inherently harder but I don't think that the degree of disparity in LE is that huge, also dodge button helps melee more than ranged
and in some content like arena pushing melee is MUCH worse than ranged because the dmg output of the enemies scales so high that you really want to kill everything before it gets close to you

arena doesn't exist, arena cannot hurt your melee build
depends entirely on the build. You usually want to have at least one source of crit multi on your gear, so about 100% extra give or take is normal

depends on build, but say for minion builds on primalist it's one of the few viable sources of sustain. There are some dedicated hp regen builds, I think the highest I've seen is around 3k/sec. Not an expert on those though, they tend to mostly be bear builds.

Yea so there is the base of 5% chance to crit, the added chance to crit (e.g. +4% increased crit strike chance), then there are increased chance to crit (e.g. 50% increased chance to crit) The + is very important to that

when starting the new cycle, what's the fastest way to reach endgame ? Play through the whole campaign or mix it up with some dungeons to skip some things ?
I think dungeons would be fastest, but it'd probably be very hard to do on a fresh character come new cycle.

You need keys to do the dungeons. Also you can go into monoliths as soon as you reach End of Time, like around level 20. But it's area level 58 for the first one.
If you use the forge guardian. You can kite monoliths as soon as you unlock it.
Just spam it at enemies while you avoid attacks.

Personally, I prefer to get the passive unlocks and idol unlocks. Then go to monoliths. Then later use the Temporal Sanctum dungeon exit to get into Act 9 for the Item Factions

There's more available than you need to cap. 23 passive unlock quests, cap at 15, and 13 idol unlock quests, cap at 8. So if you miss one you can always do a later one. Or go back.
What happens if you die on a monolith boss?
you fail the monolith, which means you don't get the reward for clearing it.
But you can still re-try it to progress your monoliths.
Unless you mean bosses like the abomination.

that keeps me safe from accidentally going too far forward
if you try to just go in a complete circle its real easy to get a bad timing

Yes, flat health is available on most of your gear
the other health shards are less common, you hopefully have a few of the % increased health, hybrid is kinda rare
but for now, it's also likely your defenses in general need work, you don't exactly need a ton of health to get through the regular timelines

There's currently no difference between Legacy and Cycle, with the exception that the new Pinnacle boss will be available in Legacy after the boss has been defeated once in Cycle. Or a week has passed, whichever is sooner.

If you wanted to make a new character in the new Cycle, you'd be starting over with anyone else who also wanted to start over. So it would be a fresh market for the bazaar
