Decided to boot up HOMM:V for a duel vs myself. Sylvan Vs Inferno. Had such trash luck with Inferno in terms of nearby artifacts and resources, whereas Sylvan had disgusting RNG...
These stats are insane, didn't even need a 7th slot in my army.
Meanwhile, my Inferno dude had 8 defence, so even the 24 attack couldn't do anything to the Sylvan army. Fastest kill ever + Tear of Asha ftw

I agree that it feels empty often but I like the idea of exploration and going where I want to be not where the game wants me to be like in linear progression (lies of p/Nioh2).
At a certain point you're forced to progress and imo after early/mid game, there isn't much of a point in exploration besides finding all kinds of weapons etc
Also ER isn't that great for multiple playthroughs as I thought it would be..because you already know best ways to progress, you know there is a tomb behind the corner etc
I've never experienced NG+ because I know it's just enemy more HP and damage.
In Nioh2 NG+ is where the fun starts with higher item rarity, different enemy spawns, more difficult enemy behavior etc

Cheapest I can find in stock is around $300 and that's a lower price, it's usually another $100-150 more give or take, and various fees knock that up about another $100. That's not getting into that you'd probably want a ti as it's just all around better performance if you can afford the jump in price (which is still much lower than getting like, a 3080). And gods forbid anything happens in shipping since the local market literally doesn't exist thanks to the majority of the population of the state being elderly, so.... hope you're willing to either fight customer service or fork over the money for warranty or something similar. Not even touching the whole different manufacturers have different prices shit.

Basically utter suffering if you don't have the luxury of being able to set aside money consistently. And that's just... one singular part, I'd need to get everything, except a mouse and keyboard lol.

Tbf recommended specs are usually for maxing most things out, I was playing on a laptop 2070 and could hold 60-90 fps no problem after 1.2, that's why imo min specs are the only thing worth looking at, since recommended is kinda something they pull out their ass lul

I'd bet you can run it with everything maxed out on a 1080 or something just fine as long as your cpu is good, since it's pretty cpu bound

I think it just needs good RNG to get it at low levels till you get the instant gating "Urgash Call". Effectively you increase your army by 45%, which is pretty OP, especially when investing in Luck and Leadership, for a chance for 2x the reinforcements and 20% more respectively. I think I'll start a new game just to see how OP I can make it by investing in Gating, Attack, Leadership, Luck and Dark Magic.

That being said, I dislike the Steam version for having the patched version of Necromancy, because that skill was busted beyond belief. In a couple of weeks time you could end up with thousands of skeleton archers, trivialising early+mid game and giving you a nice base for end game.

So far that seems to be the case but honestly I think it's a case of a label devs slap on slop in the hopes that it lifts peoples viewpoint about their project, even though in reality the engine really doesn't mean anything when it comes to how good a game is

some of the best games are made in really primitive and even old engine while some of the worst games are made on the latest and greatest engines, it's just a tool

it's like using a $10 000 titanium wrench to assemble a $1000 scrap car

And there's also the case of developers being lazy and using premade solutions instead of making tailor made solutions now because in the past general solutions didn't even exist, so everything was tailor made and optimized, now you use the general solution because it's "good enough" but do that for everything and "good enough" results in a mediocre product

Now by "lazy" I don't mean they don't work hard, games nowadays are way more complex than they were in the past.

it comes from cause and effect. its easier to throw something decent looking in UE, therefore less work/less understanding needed. thats why a lot of UE games feels generic. engine disposes to this cuz of ease of use. the more unhandy tool you use, the more talent you need to create something with it.
so its not necessarily being lazy, just amateurish. like i said its much more easier to throw together something decent looking now than it was before.

yep, I mean things like the new witcher game are making heavy modifications to the engine, basically making it tailor made, which is why during the technical showcase it looked so good compared to pretty much any other UE5 game

So there's 100% ways to make good use of it and have it be a great asset, but just slapping together something quick and dirty using premade tools will never yield a masterpiece

which is what a lot of these games feel like, the biggest giveaway for me is when you can clearly tell the world is made up of premade assets that have just been placed on and into terrain, while games that don't stand out as UE5 copy paste don't have that, because the devs either handcrafted the environments or took the time to edit and mesh everything together. This obviously doesn't necessarily mean the gameplay is going to be bad but if corners are cut in one place they're usually cut elsewhere too, and lots of "good enough" parts make a mediocre whole like I mentioned before,

So, what changed? After last season, I spent a few days here and there readjusting some weights and rethinking some parameters. The model was clearly good, the data was good, and it did well even with wildcards such as certain streamers playing it, PoE 2-related sentiment analysis, and so on. Very happy. Sad that some of these wildcards didn't come to fruition, but alas.

For this season, I hooked it up to a real-time feed of way more data, instead of relying on a weeks-to-months-old-but-still-good data. Readjusted lots of weights: PoE2 retention from 0.1 to the expected 0.3 numbers (and what impact it'll have on LE), the even clearer understanding of how how many and who plays both games (there are a tiny bit more than initially assumed).

Unfortunately, PoE is still the biggest(*) factor. If 0.3 releases very close to LE's 1.3, that's worse. There are two situations:

1. GGG pulls a nasty one again, but EHG refuse to push back LE's release date. That'd be a mistake. The real number that both games share is way higher than both the companies know, but both seem to be vastly overestimating it. However, I think GGG and EHG are coordinating (public-facing resources metadata analysis).

2. Everything goes smoothly, due to GGG being fwends.

Learnings from our automated "sentiment" analysis:

1. Dinosaurs isn't a great theme. This will trump everything.
2. Very high expectations for PoE2 0.3. Good changes in the 0.2.x patches. Will probably be a good patch just because it won't have issues.
3. Common issues quoted: while a lot of people appreciate that LE is simpler, a lot of people feel "the game's solved", and a decent part of players want to skip to 1.4.

The defense systems are inherently flawed, even more than PoE1's (which, I am heavily critical of that game despite my love for it), the passive tree needs a complete overhaul to make up for the sweeping imbalances in every nature of it, the gem system suffers from a lack of player agency that PoE1 distinctly had even if it was still somewhat RNG, the crafting is lacking core components that they have shown no indication of wanting to bring in which results in a "rich get richer/play the game like a job" type type approach to get any passable gear without trading and even with trading you're not likely to be able to afford making an item with even 4 affixes you want on it, the player agency in building is sorely lacking in every fashion which is an utter disgrace considering what genre this is. I can keep going but I'm actively trying to do three different things irl right now. Low on the list for most but very high on mine though is that the lore/story is a complete dumpster fire as someone who enjoys the lore of the previous entry. It has practically no connection to the first game, and outright ruins multiple major plot points and in-universe rules that have existed for many years within it.

It's a sub-system of WoW that was put into its own game. Splendid idea. Poor execution, however. Mainly due to the combat, but also due to what you said. There's practically no story, and if the story isn't good, it might as well not be. Those cinematics in-game and voice acting really do matter long-term.

It's a technical issue on your computer. Something to do with SSL certificates. If you don't know why this is happening, then it's likely the fault of whoever installed or manages your OS.

Simple solution is to just use Steam, if Steam works fine for your other games.

the supernatural scp horror etc parts are so stylized it makes it a pain to show off the technical upgrades

like i said though more interested in mecha break as it releases today

but its also very unique and niche with it being a mecha arena fighter

Yeah I have the original switch it's pretty nice tbh. I wouldn't get another switch though I'd for sure go for a windows or Linux one so I can play my steam library

maybe we'll get to where huge blight map chain explosions etc dont lag out average pc's

upgrades in tech doesnt just mean fidelity can have a lot more ai etc going on too

not really sure lighting can get much better than full path tracing

but when stuff starts hitting diminishing returns in theory games will focus more on side stuff unrelated to graphics to stand out

although then again xbox has largely given up on games

sony isnt much better, dropped a lot of games before launch

mostly just the same kinda story games and remasters/sequels

so who knows

Hard to quantify how the movement would have fared if he didn't try to nuke it like 10 months ago. Prior to this blowing up in the past few days, I think it's more than reasonable to say he did hurt the movement significantly with his original remarks.

But I am really glad this has blown up, this initiative deserves to be talked about. There needs to be a conversation around end of life planning for video games, absolutely.

@south gust following up from our earlier chat about HOMM, it sucks how badly they were abandoned by their devs/publisher for multiplayer, and 6+7 are in a near unplayable state on Steam. A lot of people dunk on these 2 instalments, but I genuinely think they had something nice to offer, with the simplification of resources, different units etc.

I really wish the Olden Era returns back to 2,3,5 roots and levels of fun

I recommend checking out GoG. They are on there as Complete Editions so you can have everything for dirt cheap. Even out of sales they are cheap but right now 3 is only ~$2.50 -$3.
