I think the fact that lich ahs so much dot mitigation and can get up to 40% of hits taken over time is pretty solid.
And with blossom you can make 4 damage types have armor applied.

But yeah, mastery respec will cost more gold than you'll have unless you do it REAAAAL late, and the benefits of being on a better "leveling" mastery are very small
So for first character in a league, highly recommend that you start as your final intended mastery and just make it work

Respccing individual passives is cheap so you can invest in whatever tree

Surviving to monos is mostly just having some source of healing or ward generation. Rip blood heals, you can get melee leech for harvest, Drain Life isn't too far into lich and drains a lot, etc

They even add in that you get +2 passive point unlock and +1 idol unlock for the first time you complete each dungeon in 1.2. So it takes even less to cap out now. I only had to do a couple quests in Chapter 9 to have all passives and idol unlocks after that was added.
