I might be in the same town as you. Lots of hills, but I timed my trips for a few years and sorted them by vehicle and time of day, and bicycle came out ahead of cars on average during all daytime hours. I didnt collect as much data about what the causes of slowness were, because it wasnt necessary: overwhelmingly caused by pedestrian crossings, and the low speed limits that protect them. My times were best when using a BMX, due to acceleration and turning.

I like it that way, too. There is lots of parking at the train stations at the edge of the city. Just like the old days when only rich people could bring their smelly horse into town.

I finally finished the system I've been meaning to do. This system improves fog optimization on large maps quite well (by a factor of 3 or so), but the fog itself is too unoptimized for me to post it yet, and I'm not sure I'll be able to optimize it further

It turns out that this viewpoint shift problem is directly related to the device used by the user. I can't detect the position of the viewpoint automatically, but I added a function to move it manually. At night, for better visibility of the values, I make it lighter.

In the future, I will add a dialog box when entering the city that will prompt the user to calibrate the center of the viewpoint. (Of course, there will be a “don't show this dialog box again” feature.)
