It's good to experiment with the road layout every now and then in the grid. Even grids can be interesting if implemented correctly. Let me show you how i put the bus stops in my city and my road layout

Are the other happiness values higher? I was told all values are reset to 50% when a building upgrades. If only transportation is resetting, maybe there is intermittent traffic causing it. Sometimes the unhappiness notification only lasts for 1 day and disappears before you can read it.

Trains: long range connectors, city to city and even has a logistics function so a bonus.
Metro (Subway): Mid-range connectors, from places of work to the residential, takes up a small amount of space.
Elevated rail: good but people use it for looks more than function. (Similar to metro)
Taxi: Do not use unless necessary (if you play your cards wrong there WILL be too much traffic)
