thanks!!
the sculptor doesnt have a body. It cannot be captured in a picture. It can only influence our world in some specific ways like making mobs and bosses
@amber harbor thats theory, we arent certain. However, old lore talks about all Loa having a “heart” or seat of power that hunters typically attack to remove it from our reality. Odds are the sculptor is handling this from afar and keeping the rift open with the bosses’ souls rather than his own, hence us getting bounties from every boss. This is all soul-physics talk though so we’ll probably never know.
People don’t read pinned docs at all do they?
Years passed same questions over and over again
@junior pecan Before their shitty retcon there was 1 unique boss ex butcher, spider, assassin and each hunt was retelling of the same story. (Unreliable Narrator) but they retconned that for some stupid reason
to be fair, the pinned docs are a little overwhelming at first. The more beginner friendly lore thing is the reddit summary, but that isn't pinned
@amber harbor Do you have a link? I can pin it 🙂
Beginners guide to lore https://www.reddit.com/r/HuntShowdown/comments/d6qhmp/beginners_guide_to_hunts_lore/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
@glossy falcon thanks!
there we go ^^
@glossy falcon❤️
❤️
what's the lore behind the damned souls of QP
We arent sure, probably people who go in with insufficient innoculation. We’d probably need to understand soul physics to ever really know whats going on in QP, until then itll always be a guessing game.
interesting
my shitty theory is that the scultor is some sort of elderish or lovecraftian god, influencing the world through his power amongs bugs, leeches and other small creatures
Is there a reason why the tier 3 hunters have the top third if their fingers painted? Not to mention how some of then have 2 bars on their arm.
@sturdy citrus every time hunters use dark sight they loose something, a part of their soul most likely. So t3 being the most experienced have discolored bodies to signify that. They have a lot of tatoos because they think it will have an effect on the process
Oh wow. Makes me think about all the times I've used dark sight.
Hey guys. Im new
Does anyone know why were most books in library removed and if they will make a return soon? Any news on that?
@rare gate they are on their website and in the pinned comments. They were removed in the 1.0 update because of the new ui. They only left the "functional" books, those being book of weapons ,monsters and the credits
Thank you very much. Will they add remoced books again?
Any news on that ? Im sad they removed them. It wqs great
they are still canon as far as I know. They just took them out for the UI update
They were fo rworldbuilding only so... idk
@scarlet copper Its lovecraftian, but not as immense. Sculptor probably works through insects because they have some soul but little to no psychology, would make an easy target for possession. Sculptor and the loa probably have the mental faculty of anywhere from 500 to 8000 men, so not cthulu but still a force to be reckoned with
This is lengthy, but its the only analysis of sculptor we have
Could somebody fill me in please, what are Loa? I know what they are in real life... but im asking in regards to in game lore
Also will aditional books be making a return to the library?
Alternate dimension beings. Immensely powerful compared to humans but work in odd ways. They cant shoot you but they can possess people. Most of the old ones did minor ‘ghost hunters’ type shenanigans and were easy to boot out of our reality. The newest one, Sculptor, is doing something vastly different and more longterm
We might get a ‘Book of Tales’ in the future, but most of the population of this game is oblivious to the lore
Kinda meta in that regard, some players calling the AI demons, others calling them zombies
Just as unaware as the characters they play as
ngl
i think the "zombies" are honestly just super sick humans
They cough, they make sounds like normal people
I wouldnt be surprised to hear, even if not in game, that they can talk
Sounds kinda captain obvious but
Zombies are all relatively similar. Rotting, brainless undead-
These guys are semi intelligent. They use weapons, they travel in small packs, they make non-zombie like noises and grunts, even scream like humans sometimes when burning.
just a thought
@covert pike i think somewhere is mentioned that there is a little bit human left that is fighting against the takeover from the sculptor
I hope we get more books.
can i post suggestions in this channel? it has something to do with some lore maybe?
@vestal tinsel no. you are looking for #feedback-discussion or #game-ideas
@amber harbor ty i seen it when i noticed my tabs were collapsed lol.
@covert pike some of the different entries in the monster book make it sound more like the grunts are sort of being mind controlled (which is why they can use weapons, carry torches, etc)
Hey why is lore hardcore read only and what makes lore hardcore?
@covert pike that would be a sweet monster. One that is minion based maybe you have to kill several before fighting the hive mind!
@vagrant agate They are on a minimal level. Loa are known to possess people, but not in a hollywood way, theyre very conscious but very emotional in possession. They can be driven to do some horror movie shit, but if you know what youre doing theyre quite reasonable. Sculptor has clearly driven the Bayou citizens to a feral madness, but its his minute control that spurs them to attack hunters and not eachother. He is stretched so thin however that he can only work in broad strokes of emotion. Its like playing 500 first person shooters at the same time.
They use tools because theyre just spiritually induced psychopaths
Were it not for his direct influence they would lull in and out of their madness from time to time
what does the sculptor wants, and why is he doing all of this?
@acoustic whale We dont know🤔
there must be a reason, i like the lore very much and it makes me curious
thats the point
it leaves a lot of open holes like Dark Souls
because it wants the people to bridge together until more comes along
theories and ideas based off whats already there
This explains it but its difficult to understand simply due to how complicated the situation is. Its also only a theory but its the only explanation we currently have
Have you guys seen this? This was posted yesterday, wonder what that can mean
sounds like something a boss's soul would think, being constantly denied death and having to constantly whisper so hunters dont camp
Okay, so if we consider that a tease of some sort what would it be hinting at?
they usually build it up, so maybe this is a worldbuilding intro to another character's story
or they just put it there to give off spooki cowboi vibes
Just as unaware as the characters they play as
@junior pecan I think the devs have their fun with this kinda thing: people acting that way without knowing their supposed to act this way. Like an social experiment or a simulation. You can kinda hear their smiles in the answers they gave on the over and over repeating lore-question: "Why do the Hunters fight each other?" They could just give that question back: "Why do the PLAYERS fight each other?" Players could play this game cooperative: There is no need at all (except for the fun of killing other players) to fight each other! Everybody could just cleanse the Bayou together, throw a coin/dice who gets the bounty from the boss (like guilds do in WoW), etc. But the players choose not to. And then they ask the devs, why they "have to" fight each other 🙂
(i'm pretty sure that if you could fight over the loot in wow, DPS would be filthy rich)
Yeah. But thats the point of hunt, isnt it? You CAN fight over the lore, nobody stops you. But nobody forces you to do so either. And still its what everybody is doing...
Makes me want to do a community event, ive got a whole thing planned out but i wouldnt be surprised if everybody blew it off
Makes me want to do a community event, ive got a whole thing planned out but i wouldnt be surprised if everybody blew it off
@junior pecan I always wanted to go and search for lore-stuff in the bayou, but its kinda hard if you have to avoid getting shot in the back of the head or run for an exit once the loot is extracted. Maybe some things ARE hidden out there. Maybe thats the reason we cant start maps on our own (and our movement on the training-map is restricted).
That would make sense. I was talking more about the community directly influencing the lore by creating a player made faction with distinct behaviour separating themselves from the hunters

@junior pecan I like this idea, but tbh: The PVE is too easy. If there are no hidden bosses to appear (like the scumblers in "darkest dungeon") - and I doubt that - then there would be no more challenge in the game without PvP, once the players start to cooperate. But as someone who plays alot of solo games i have made that experience: A guy with a shotgun stood behind me and didnt kill me. I turned around, saw him, immideatly shot at him, but missed his head. He bandaged, but neither ran away nor shot at me. Realizing, that he could have killed me, I tried to talk to him, but he didnt answer. Instead he ran to the next clou. I followed him, and together we found the spider lair. We were lucky: we didnt meet any other players in this game after we met. We killed the spider. I had the final shot on it so I said "you can banish it". afterwards we ran to an extraction point and extractet one after the other each of us with one bounty. I thought the whole time "now hes gonna shoot me, if I turn away" - but he never did. I was tempted to shoot him, but didnt either. So much luck involved (including my bad aim 😄 ) - but somehow this was one of my most awesome hunt experiences. Was even more interesting, since he never said a word. I watch alot of Psycho-ghost and always thought I should give him a "guardian-angel" challenge (but never did): Find a solo-player in the Bayou. Follow him, dont let him see you, protect him. Without telling him, what you are doing. 😄 Some Community-events like this might be fun, but 80-90% of the people trying somethg like this prbly end up dead instantly...
bit of a different topic, but I wonder if some of the more prominent hunters referenced in the lore will make appearances as legendary skins? I'm thinking along the lines of the McGowan twins, Phillip Huff Jones, Leander Coetzee, etc.
Question: I read somewhere, it was confirmed, that the hunht-lore is NOT about Voodoo. Voodoo is just one way people interpret the supernatural beings (loa) depending on their culture. Rly? But there seem to be so many hints on Voodoo... Take for example the supernatural factions: [disclaimer: I know very little about Voodoo or similar religions, so dont be offended if I portray some things wrong] Everybody knows about Lynch and the culptor, but at least 2 more a mentioned in the lore: The Snake, and the lord of the dead. The snake initiated on of the twins and helped them. It was more or less benevolent to them [There are some hints too, that the snake is guiding Hardin & his faction as well - so the snake seems to be a major player in this game]. In Voodoo you would call a Loa that is a priests personal patron (his "totem") a "mait tete". There is an important and benevolent loa in Voodoo, that takes the form of a snake: Damballah. He is not only benevolent & wise, but also the oldest loa, so definetly one of the most important ones. Another powerfull and famous Loa is "Baron Samedi" - the Loa most people know (its the guy with the sunglasses, the cylinder-hat and the skull-painted face). Now Baron Samedi (or the Ghede-Loas in general) is quite interesting, since he is the Loa of death (and Zombies) - would fit to be the "Lord of the dead", Fin & Jos met. [But he is as well the Loa of medicine and the protector of little children. In that way he is similar to the european Reaper-man, especially the "godfather-death" variant as it appears in german fairy-tales. The european Reaper-man has another famous trait: He dosent bargain, but he might be tempted to play a game for the life of a person (as well as in the famous movies "the seventh seal" or "Bill&Ted"). The Twins Jos & Fin played a game with the lord of the dead.] So at least 2 of the supernatural factions seem to be similar to 2 of the most important and famous Loa of Voodoo. Afaik there are some more hints.

@vagrant agate I wouldnt have thought so - before they released Black. Huff Jones is dead... but so is the blackcloak. I guess they will. Maybe not all of them but certainly some.
That's a good point re. the Black Coat and Huff Jones. a lot of the current legendary hunters have accompanying legendary weapons/tools, so maybe looking at the weps/tools that name their owners/users who aren't currently playable is a clue. The Twins have more than any other by far, but there are also those like William Salter (also deceased in the lore)
I'm curious about some of the hunters referenced in legendary weapon descriptions who aren't actually named. We've been able to figure out who some of them are, but who are these? The Black Sun's description refers to a "sun-worshiping hunter", the Griffin to a "fiercely bearded hunter". the hunter who stole "Black Hand" from Rev. Jeremiah's house, and the hunter who owned "Bunny"
Griffin is afaik a reference to a streamer. Some streamers got their own weapon design. The "Zorngeist" is the weapon of psycho-ghost (I still think he should have chosen the silenced nagant 😦 )
Griffing is for Greifenberg (German Hunt streameer)
@jagged tide theyre kind of all patrons of the dead iirc, samedi and his ‘wife’ (who im pretty sure doesnt exist yet in 1895) are both protectors of lost souls. Damballah is the creator of reality (or at least partial creator) and the weirdest part of all this is that they still believe in the Jehovah figure present in most modern religion. He’s considered beyond the loa just as he’s beyond us.
Baron Samedi was the focus of the community event i was talking about. Catholic funded group moving into the bayou to counteract the efforts of the hunters and Sculptor. Each player reports to the church and the church supposedly reports to Baron Samedi (which is literally Saturday, the sabbath), who they claims he is a Loa equivalent of a devout christian. The question of if Samedi is telling the truth and genuinely wants to help, and if he is even real or just a trick made by the sculptor or even the church itself for control would be brought up several times, and splinter groups might form as a result.
Players themselves would use some dice painted with Samedi’s veve to recieve instructions on their next task (or just use a random number generator if thats too much work, its just a lore tidbit). Tasks would be highly different from the normal objective of kill banish extract, and would often include a time limit to pressure players into taking risks, and therefore making it a challenge.
Stuff like clearing entire compounds of AI, trapping bosslair with X number of bear traps, or even preventing a certain bounty from extracting. All to mix up gameplay and make things interesting for both those who are participating in the event, and those who are just playing the game.
@junior pecan Sounds like fun. If you find a way to organize that, I would definetly participate.
Apparently there’s a new trailer continuing the darkness theme, there’s also a female narrator, might be Jos or Fin? Also a new legendary character and an uppercut skin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=803IUEgOBfE
A darkness had found its way into our world. Some called it God's wrath, and they prayed for deliverance. Some called it plague, and they evacuated the towns. Driven by mindless hunger, it was a being able to transform those it touched into gruesome creatures.
But we knew how...
Undead hunter skin, fighting alongside preacher
Might confirm that the Dark Sight price is actually your life tho
It might be the Snakeskin guy, forgot his name, in the lore it says that he got injured and couldn’t hold the gun properly (that’s how the carbine came to life), but then again I don’t think he used any other guns, maybe it was just to show both the new hunter and the skin in one scene though
Russel Chambers ?
Yeah, thanks
Not sure tho, He says his arm is hurt, and there, on the legendary, his arms looks ok, but he took a bullet to the heart
What's on his gun tho
seems like flowers or stickers
Or poker tokens
oh yeah might be poker chips
Is there a character in the lore who liked gambling?
also there is a new uppercut skin by the looks of it
this is so cool
the increase in cinematic footage leads me to believe there might be a chance at an animated series or something of the likes
also the ending implies this is a recurring character. Maybe we get a story mode, maybe it's the sculptor embodying a huntress, maybe it's the twins or Lynch, or the little girl who became the spider
@polar fable how did you get a hold of this? it's unlisted
I think the voice might be Marshall Brewer
@amber harbor just found a post on Reddit, this video popped up as an ad on some other YouTube video for some guy
holy shit they're actually advertising the game
It's now in a state that can be considered decent enough to get a more casual crowd involved
That undead hunter gives me some serious deadlands-vibes! I am hyped right now!
he/she reminds me of that guy in clockwork orange
any confirmation on what that skin is or if its getting added?

my theory is that hes one of the hunters who were saved by a repelling enchantment from the reverend (?)
to be fair, we do know of a grunt who was revitalised
A revitalised Grunt? Where?
I think in the grunt entries, they talked about a cured person
I'm going to read it right now, i read it a lot of time ago and don't remeber it.
same
Bonus question: who is writing the Book of Monsters?
One of the first statement in the Grunt Entry say: "I'm starting to think these events may have been the beginning of the zombie stories we have today"
So it seems something written in our days, kinda.
it is a modern day researcher. The louvent was pivotal to the huntverse's earth. The first entries are written by him, and the ones you actually unlock are documents found from the era
the first ones are a kind of conclusion, and the rest are the actual documentation
I know about documentation, but now i want to know more about that researcher
And how the Event develope and alter the Huntverse's Earth
He refer at the events as something obscure even nowdays, so we can assume it have been contained in the end?
yes, the aha is one of the secret organisations who keep this sort of thing in check
that being said, they definetly pissed their pants when this one came around. it splintered the organisation
this event was regarded as a hillbilly plague which only affected the poor bayou residents and not the 'higher men'
so it is plausible that it was hidden from the world at large
yeah, idk why I misremembered
Maybe is somewhere else. I'll try to give it a general read.
IIrc the bone-doctor was said to be the only one being able to cure the disease. Another hint to the power of Voodoo in the huntverse btw
Where it was said?
Not sure, maybe in his description
"Born in Senegal and brought to New Orleans as a slave, Doctor John was eventually freed and rose to prominence in the New Orleans Voodoo community, founding a chapter of Hunters with his most loyal followers.
His ability to heal led to suspicions that he had caused the very plague he fought, though none who spoke against him survived for long."
No, just generic healing.
Y, just checked it myself... but I was so sure, that it once said he was able to cure the disease... look at weird-sisters bio, it implies the same.
"Inspired by the healing powers of Voodoo King Doctor John, Cora Beukes became a Voodoo practitioner and was initiated into John's inner circle of devout Hunters."
Its not 100% clear, but it seems to suggest it. But you are right, it could as well be interpreted to just be ordinary healing 😦
What about William Salter? Wasnt he "healed" from it (even so his personality split into his normal self and a psychotic killer)?
I have to re-read everything, damn
William Salter just escaped the asylum and now lives in the woods as a crazy dude
I dont think he recovered, but he also wasnt fully influenced
Yeah and he’s dead, killed by the twins
the William Salter entries made me think of him more like a werewolf than a grunt
at least the way they were worded
he fades in and out of that murderous state in the same way
im pretty new and would love to get into the lore would anyone mind telling me the basics or pointing me in the right direction to a forum or post that explains some of it?
@verbal nova look at the pinned comments in the top right
thx
I want to know more about the lore is there a community made archive of all the law in hunt or should I just read the ingame books?
@pliant crown yes, check the pinned messages for lore docs
"Beginner's Guide to Hunt Lore" is a good place to start
thanks @warm lagoon , im looking to take part in the lore backstory competition
so wanting to learn everything i can lore wise
@devout cedar do we know who Sculptor is?
👀
I know I have to lore, but I dont know anything about lore
It's the main thing no?
@wintry panther halp
We know very little about him currently
What we do know is that he is from another dimension and the cause of the bosses
If you think of it from a Lovecraftian POV it’s a more cosmic being that is causing chaos
Thx
do you think maybe that the lengendary weapons have a piece of someones soul in them? the lengendaries have a different sound to them then the normal non skin varient
@warm quest i think thats due to the design of the barrel ornaments
thats a lame answer, kebab
I think Honeysprite is right, a lot of the weapons do indeed have supernatural backgrounds to them and things that surround their creation
Bunny, the mosin sniper, was made in honor of the italian mastiff,
Blood oath was made by those two brothers,
Yadda yadda more and more weapons that I cant remember the exact lores behind
Having parts of that weapon be a reflection of the creator would not surprise me, even if not the soul, but still a piece of them
Some legendary have some voodoo mojo going on, some other are simply ornamental
That's my guess
For example the Lousiana Lustrum is simply a good looking sparks. While the Void Cairn is a Mosin cursed by the fact that the owner stabbed a "black heart" (whatever a black heart is. Still looking for an answer)
Well, a black hear is often used to describe someone who has no soul or is "rotten" so maybe they stabbed someone they considered soulless
everyone saw the new trailer?

0:33 and 1:43 - twins? Jos and Fin? Well i think so cas one of them with a sledgehammer.
and in the previous trailer Legends of The Bayou (DLC) at 0:29. At this second Crytek presented the twins' knife!
https://youtu.be/D8Sx3pSrvlc?t=29
the same persons here!
That woman with a sledgehammer - Jos (you can check the storyline of twins). The second one - Fin.
But who's Marshall?
Some new type of Lynch? Because she has white hair. But it's not a braid.
I think Lynch is a narrator in the new trailer
Well, i'm totally confused...Crytek plz help me

@shy whale but stabbing in the heart some generally baddies usually don't end in yourself getting cursed.
As far as I remember it was literally a heart that they used to perform some ritual to track down the twins
So it got black in the process as he stabbed it with his Mosin
Mh, that could fit
As for the narrator in the recent trailer I don’t think it’s Lynch, because she’s known for doing some really bad things and the narrator sounds genuinely sorry that hunters started to fight each other and became greedy. Lynch is not a usual human being and her motives are not clear, so I’d say it’s one of the twins speaking in the trailer
do we have any existing lore on the red shirt?
@covert pike thank you for supporting my idea!
where can i find that @amber harbor or were you refering to his name "red shirt"
i have an idea for him
the description on his skin
Thats our best bet, but its only theory
Nowhere near confirmed

@upbeat merlin Wow! Your right. I guess it rly is the twins. Sledge-hammer & blood-oath is a good hint. Not sure if theres anything mysterious about the Marshall. But I am 100% sure its not Lynch. Lynch left this plane of existence and had to leave her (its) body behind. She probably can return, but she raised her last body from childhood (did she have to?) and went to great lengths to preserve it, so I dont think Lynch could just pop after a short time up in a new body. As a human Lynch should be gone from the lore for quite some time. But in the last chapter of the twins they discuss, that after Lynch and Huff being gone, the AHA is in chaos with nobody left to lead it (hence the Hunters fighting each other), and since people (wrongly) blame the twins for it they couldnt step up in the position either. So it would make sense, that they searched for smbdy else to fit that role... and if those words spoken in the trailer come from the marshall, it seems they have found the right person to re-unite the AHA. My 2 Cents
@jagged tide I like the way you're thinking, but I don't think it's the Twins, for a few reasons. First, one of the women is holding a sledgehammer (which would be Jos) while the other is holding a double barrel shotgun. The problem with this is in Bad As They Seem, the shotgun belongs to Jos as well. The Twins stole Swamp Peach off William Salter's body, so an argument could be made that Jos is holding the hammer and Fin is holding Swamp Peach... except that Swamp Peach is a sawed off, and in both the clips at 0:33 and 1:43 it's clear this is a full size shotgun. Finally, the hunter models look like some that are already in the game (i.e., Marshal Brewer and one of the Tier 2s), so I doubt the designers would re-use those to represent the Twins
but like I said, I like the way you're thinking. I had never considered the possibility that the new trailer would be voiced from the perspective of one of the Twins
@jagged tide that are standart female t3 skins
Marshall currently head of AHA
And twins works only in pair
@vagrant agate they were shown in one of the old DLC trailers with the Blood Oath knives, meaning it has to be them
Another problem is the clip at 1:43 shows three hunters, not just two
do you have a link to the old DLC trailer with the Blood Oath knives?
Another problem is the clip at 1:43 shows three hunters, not just two
@vagrant agate The one in the middle is Marshall Brewer legendary skin, the other 2 are female tier3 hunters - the same skins as in the DLC-vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8Sx3pSrvlc&start=29 where one is carrying Blood-Oath and the other Sledge-Hammer. So my point would be, that they support Brewer to lead the AHA and that its Marshall Brewer whos is the Narrator of the new trailer.

"Phoebe Brewer, the first Louisianan woman to become a US Marshall, faced a terrible choice when she became a Hunter: to renounce a lifetime’s work. But, there was only one way into the AHA's inner circle, and only one way to fight the evil lurking there. It lost her an eye, her sobriety, and her public image, but her unknown legacy of fighting evil at its strongest was a price worth paying."
And twins works only in pair
@crude radish Hunters being able to work in groups of 3 came after their events afaik, and Allison was kinda working with them even before. Marshall Brewer (at least the skin) is pretty new in the game, so it would make sense for them to work with her now.
they were shown in one of the old DLC trailers with the Blood Oath knives, meaning it has to be them
@junior pecan Surely isnt a coincidence that its the same skins again.
Marshall currently head of AHA
@crude radish Huh? Were did they say that? This would further back my theory.
It's in her bio
Hunters being able to work in groups of 3 came after their events afaik, and Allison was kinda working with them even before. Marshall Brewer (at least the skin) is pretty new in the game, so it would make sense for them to worl with her now.
@jagged tide twins works only in pair. It's been written in Winfield carbine pages
@crude radish nah at some point the twins split up and one of them was operating alone and the second one was with a girl named Alison, and as Senf Barath mentioned I think they were working altogether for some time too
In my game , one Hunter used ultrasound for win a match...
@bitter pecan wrong channel
👀
Hi Hawthorne hope you're doing well 😄
I am thanks, you?
I am good aswell thank you
I don't know if I can answer you but you can ask anything
Well its for the larger group that chats in here but yeah Ill leave it here, since a lot of people arent going to be online right now
So you all mightve seen on instagram and twitter us asking abotu which legendary Hunters people want to see more about. So I guess first thing, please go put in your two cents on that
But second thing is, that I want to hear from the group who actually reads the books, which characters from that set there is the most interest in
Would like to consider what you all find most interesting as we make further plans and schemes and things
Ah nice, thanks for pinning that
No problem. 😄
@signal heart hey there! While there’s quite a bit of info on some of those 18 people and they appear in various lore entries, the rest have little to no info so it would be great to see those addressed first. My personal favorites are Bone Doctor and the Reverend and it would be great to know more about them as they are leaders of two major factions. On a side note - are you going to tell us more about the war between the factions? Thanks!
Maybe we should do a poll 🤔
Phantom needs more lore 👀
@visual finch that's a good idea! here we go
https://strawpoll.com/af1ys6z3
Noice!
From the Legendary-Skins for me clearly the Bone Dr, but I am interested as well in the beliefs of "Night of the Hunter" even so I am not very interested int their leaders (Night Acolyte/Seer). But there are persons that dont have a skin (yet), whom I would be interested into even more: Leander Coetzee, Russell Chambers, Elwood Finch, Glanton and his nameless companion.
That's true, but for now it seems they are going to go more deep with the actual skins
Even if a lot of people complain about the whole "oh noes, more legendary skin, buh uh uh, pay to play, give content, give content", i'm pretty thrilled when they release new legendary hunter because it means MOAR LORE
And I definetly dislike Hardin & Trevors, even so Hardin seems to be connected to the snake (about which I would like to have more infos). I read & loved the books from the beginning, but I still havent unlocked all-boss entries (because of my weird playstyle) and kinda dont wanna read them online before I have unlocked them. From the persons in the books I think the most fun to read was Glanton, even so he dosent seem to be a very "deep" character 😄 And ofc everybody wants to know more about mysterious/supernatural beings (Salter's "boy", Nelly, the snake, the lord of the dead, Lynch, the sculptor).
*taking notes *
I am def seeing a lot of requests for the Phantom.
For your poll though, I want opinions on nonlegendaries rather than legendaries...
so out of all the characters who appear in lore, which one seems more interesting to explore>
Yeah. Curious who you all would most like ot hear more about
Asking about the legendaries on our socials, but wanted to hear about the others in this group
gotta brush up on my lore then, I dont trust myself to make the right choice now 🙂
🙂
I am def seeing a lot of requests for the Phantom.
@signal heart That's Rachta multivoting.
Not only mine
Anyway i'd like to know more about the Twins, then. And Lynch
I saw many people asking for Phantom on social media
If that's just you multivoting, that is a LOT of multivoting 🙂
Yep i was joking. The Phantom is indeed pretty interesting and have very little lore for now.
The real question is...... Who is under the mask
would love to see more of the Lynch aswell :)
Bu?
*dramatic music *
I want to know more about bunny
The real question is...... Who is under the mask
@devout cedar Char Aznable ^^
I always wondered, what the motivation for Victor Caldwell's betrayal was... the longer I think about it, the more interesting chars pop up... Sinan, Rittmeister H... Still, I stay with Daniel Glanton and his nameless companion as the most interesting for me 🙂
Yeah Victor Caldwell and Glanton are definitely interesting!
@signal heart From the lore bunch, I would say Marie Laveau, Black and Finch in that order. It would be interesting to see Maire's involvement in the history of the aha, and also some of Black's notes/Finches patients
Also, John Voelkel.
@signal heart Russel Chambers and John Voelkel as theyre not depressingly amoral, and Laveau for the possibility of more understanding of ritual magic.
Also, have you seen mirror theory yet?
For Voelkel i want to know more about the curse he put on himself stabbing the black heart
Btw, didnt find the letters in the pinned files, so maybe this video should be pinned as well? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xGpdxc11ks

Just realized, that Dr Reed had a split personality because of the disease, just like Salters. And he too talks about a mysterious boy...
Hey, guys, is there any official logo of American Hunters Association?
if there is one I would also request a pic
isn't it just the AHA in the game logo style?
If there is no official logo, developers, please, make American Hunters Association logo contest.
yes
@rotund ferry There is. it looks suspiciously like "uwu" for some unholy reason
For reference, here it is
that's the voynich translation of the abbreviation 'aha'
It's the closest thing we have for a logo so far
Ok, thank you.
But it doesn't match with Voinich Alphabet. Something looks alike but there is no total similarity.
@rotund ferry they started the game voynich integration when the code wasnt broken. the first cypher used to encode messages is made up by the devs and is still in the pinned comments. around 1.0 they changed the cypher to the v1.01 method
do hunters poop
what if u have diarhea and really need to shit 5times per hour?
they should add that u can smell enemy hunters
That's why you can see them with vision after collecting the bounty. The stress releases all the stored up back log.

A darkness had found its way into our world. Some called it God's wrath, and they prayed for deliverance. Some called it plague, and they evacuated the town...
@pliant crown appears to be the Heavy variation of this: https://www.fontspring.com/fonts/tipographiaramis/haggard-nova
@rotund ferry thankyou, i used an app to try find it, it gave me this list of fonts
You meant the LOUISIANA, 1895 text, right?
I think they're different. The THERE CAME A DARKNESS font appears to be the one you posted, called Bourbon.
different hat, different hair colour, different shirt, different trousers , what made you think they are the same im curious? @rotund ferry
zombie boy is also wearing checkered trousers, redshirt wears jeans, zombie boy has suspenders and redshirt doesnt
probably rolled up sleeve
No, look at the Shot-mark of redshirt's target and look at the wound of Zombie-boy. They are at the same place - I think thats what he means. Still, only similarity apart from that are the gun-holsters. Not enough evidence to support the idea imho. But nice eye for details.
Thanks mate
Was wondering if the zombie guy is the outcome of redshirt going into the bayou off a dare.
Dark vision and such are given to the hunter after an initiation ritual in the AHA, right?
Afaik yes.
Ok, that give me an idea for the story contest.
I have been slowly catching up on the lore of this game
Just little tidbits and pieces
But the one thing that has caught my attention out of everything has been the story of Russell Chambers.
That man, oof, he's had a hell of journey.
Now, I haven't been able to discern whether or not he's passed away as of yet, but if not, I would love to see him as a Legendary Hunter with an Officer Carbine skin to match.
I already know about the Rattlesnake skin, but he's lost that gun and from what I could recall last, was using such a weapon.
@tiny scarab hes actually hyper useful for corroborating evidence gathered from other sources. His accounts prove of the existence of Lynch and the Twins as well as other facts
He himself proves the existence of Lynch, I know that, since Lynch apparently mentored Hardin at some point.
A story told in the cut off letter, but he himself isn't sure of the Twins existence.
Either way, he is, to me, the most interesting character within the background lore of Hunt thus far
Him and Voekel are the only likeable characters. Lynch and the twins are cool, but theyre jackasses
Voekel, I have not read into yet.
Where does he appear, besides the Empty Cairn's flavor text?
Most of mosin, he was trying to warn the twins for some reason, but he was also trying to kill Joseph Powell, we’re not sure of his motives for either pursuit
I'll have to read that then, since looking at the Mosin's entries out of passing glances, I was only seeing William Salter entries or John Victor interviews
They are, just a dev mistake,
I was just reading the entries.
Yup
If you get done with the entries and want to get into the crazy shit just @ me and ill drop a link to mirror theory
Drop it now. I might not understand it now, but I will eventually.
But the one thing that has caught my attention out of everything has been the story of Russell Chambers.
@tiny scarab When I first read about him, I thought he was just an easter-egg pointing toward Snake Pliskon aka the Rattlesnake (played by Kurt RUSSELL). But his story actually has a lot more to it. Remember that he had a near-death-experience involving a snake. A snake was involved with the twins. The story of the snake meant smthg to Hardin (the unfinished letter! It was cut off when it was about to reveal a "similar experience" of Hardin, involving the supernatural being Lynch) and other relations between Hardin and the snake have been hinted. So Chambers might be deeper in the mythical/supernatural/magical part of the Hunt-lore, then he himself is aware of. Everything seems to be pointing towards his death, but maybe we will hear more about him.
I hope so.
@jagged tide Bounty tokens are a specific Organ from the target
Hunters hunt for money AND power or cause they're dicks, but mostly power
hunters around the world deal with MANY different entities incjuding "djinn" and each religion puts their own spin on the entities
Wait there is a lore? How fledged out is it?
Fairly so. All you have to do is go into the Library in-game and start reading.
It doesn't give you all of the answers, because, frankly, we don't know all of the answers.
Less is more, in that regard, but it tells you the stories of folks and the underlying devastation of the AHA (we, the hunters.)
I can't call myself an authority on the matter, because I'm still just getting into it, but from my understanding, Lynch is the cause for the AHA breaking apart and the subsects underneath of Sheriff Hardin, The Reverend, the Bone Doctor and the Night Seer all fighting each other whilst they go on the hunt
Hmm very cool
@tame scroll if you want to get a rundown of the lore check the pinned messages
There is a guide for beginners there that will give you the long and short of it all
were is hunt story written?
@tiny scarab Who is Lynch?
Lynch is a bit of an unknown. Like I said, still new, so someone could politely correct me if I'm wrong, but....
To my understanding, Lynch was a hunter who was really a vessel for some mythical force in the lore. She's done some nefarious shit, helped teach Sheriff Hardin, and some wack stuff.
She's a real wild card.
Like Caucasian said, I'd definitely check out the Lore for Beginners in the pinned messages, because I need to do the exact same.
Would love to see Fin and Jos legendary skins
@warm quest Lynch is an unidentified Loa occupying a human form. She is also central to most of the text we have.
is everything about bugs
hive/grunt/assassin/spider/armored are all bug filled right
Grunt, meatheads, and water devils are all leech centered
But yes, it has been acknowledged in lore that there are a lot of bugs
And spider is the only arachnid, which i think might not be that closely related to insects
Hair, no carapace, very mammalian like legs.
In tarantulas at least
#DreadGamer23 - South of New Orleans, and to the west. Wild and savage, it is this country in which our story takes place, and a country more water than land, a people less civilized than they like to think 🧐
not sure are you baiting or something but Louisiana is a state in USA
just Stillwater bayou aint a real place
ok my question here: Is The Black Coat (William Durant) already dead?
kinda confuse since in Bad as they seem the twins killed him
but he is somehow playable legendary hunter
@edgy vector the lore is compiled after the event, so the fact that black coat is alive means we'll likely never get twins legendaries
that's contradict to Blood Oath legendary skin thou
I think Durant die and then they forge the knife but whatever
The Black Coat is dead. The twins killed him after he killed their foster-father (Durant was their biological father). But who knows? Him being their father might be the source of their power (remember that the first Meathead was the child of 2 hunters). Lynch knew about him and took the twins under its wing when it heard that they killed him (afaik it wanted to sacrifice them, maybe because of their heritage and/or their "special" deeds - like patricide). Interesting aspects of Durant: He has a spider-tattoo on his right arm - Lynch reffered to itself as the "black-Widow" - spiders hunt insects: The creatures in the bayou seem mostly to be insects and Lynch (even so a loa) is a hunter. Maybe Durant was a Spider-Loa as well - one that hunts insects but with a different agenda then the AHA - just like Lynch. And if he is a loa, he could have returned in a new body. One should also ask why Durant killed the foster-father of his daugthers... It seems a bit unlikely to just be a coincidence.
The first hunter to kill the spider was Glanton, and he was guilty of patricide as well. Might be a theme.
Then again... Lynch fled from the Twins and left its body cause it did NOT want to be killed by them... The lore is still very cryptic in many ways. But people coming back from the dead is definetly an option, since its a repeating theme in the hunt lore: "Rise up dead man"; Quickmatch (afaik those hunters all have died before); Zombie-boy; the turned creatures returning (it was said in QnA that some escaped the influence of the sculptor); The lord of the Dead granting passage to the twins; etc
Speaking of the "Spider": I thought this ---- "Q: How come spider in its nature is completely opposite of the insect and death aspect of Sculptor (Spiders eat moths, bees and bees so it is an antagonist to them) A: Did you have a close look at the spider? Are you sure it is a real spider?" --- was about the spider being made from human bodies, but if I am not mistaken the spider in the game has SIX legs (just like the black widow on Lynch's C&K). That would mean it isnt a spider, but an INSECT. Seems like Scognamiglio was right.
"It was faster and stronger than anything else, symbolically different to the insectoid forms of the others. It's function was cauterization. Destroy the bad parts. Trap them in webs. Kill them. Eat them."
#DreadGamer23 - South of New Orleans, and to the west. Wild and savage, it is this country in which our story takes place, and a country more water than land, a people less civilized than they like to think 🧐
@slim elm where is story written?? ;CCCCC
Look at the pinned entries. InGame: Libary
"Q: Are the hunters dealing with a literal hell, or is this just another dimension that emulates real life concepts of hell? - A: Both…" Alot about the monsters in Hunt:Showdown reminds me of insect-spirits in the pen&paper-RPG "Shadowrun": Beings from another plain of existence; possession of people and imitating them to stay undetected; insectoid deformed bodys / flesh melted and sculptored back into other forms; hives being build; etc. So those "insect-spirits" came from another plain of existence and they are similar to our insects. They infiltrate our world, take possession of people. All that since a long time. It has been said, that the "loa" are just the voodoo interpretation of these outerworldly beings, just as "demons" and "angels" are christian interpretations of the same beings (similar to "hell"). Insects have 6 legs, but 666 is the number of the beast, the antichrist. So maybe in the hunt-verse the number in the bible is just a warning against insects. Maybe the fight against those beings has been there since ancient times (a muslimic hunter called them "Djinns").
Islamic
Not muslamic
The fixation with insects is correlated with sculptor, but thats a hint as to his identity
Voodoo is so central because it is more direct and arguably more effective than other “religions” in spiritual matters
Not just nativity
lol. just wanted to write that its a local religion in the bayou.
you read my thoughts
^^
But isnt it possible, that there is more then one creature from the sculptores world and that they share some resemblence?
I mean, more then one working in the bayou
Potentially, not likely
Dr Reed (or better: the being possessing him) seemed to be an individual.
Willing to help his brethren.
The possession of singular individuals creates hybrids of a sort
Their powers are vastly limited
Maybe there is not one mastermind (the sculptor) but several beings working together,
is that canon?
or your theory?
Again, plausible but the very idea of sculptor in his current actions doesnt resemble a single individual
Its ambiguous like that
The most interesting source to me atm is the diary of reed. It seems, whatever possessed him completly erased the former conciousnes and put a new one into him. "I am spider and scorpion and moth."
That was plague im pretty sure
Yes
Not quite a possession
Imagine the spirit as a radiowave, impossible for a person to touch, but the Loa are the inverse, pure spirit, so they can poke and prod it freely
And we learned from Dr Winkler, that each Grunt is controlled by a nest of larves that circulate through his veins
hmm
Grunts are primally insane and driven slightly by Sculptor himself
The voodoo term is a horse
But its not a normal possession, its widespread and weak
Yes, a loa possesses a horse. The larvae appeared to me as the interiour functions of the bodys
Larvae ate the body of the Armored Harold Black and Tamrat researched
so they seem to be the building stones of these creatures
the smalles unit the consist of, their atoms so to speak
No, brain is alive, wouldnt vocalize otherwise
true
Didnt Ada (the daughter of the first hive) carry a larve inside her womb as well?
Wrong person, youre thinking of Ms king
Or, no
Ms king is undescribable
I know who you mean but i dont think that was Ada
Mother of the meathead
Ada was one armed hunter
Ms King? Cant remember al I read... But the creatures might enter the bodies of people and infect them that way. Then contrl their bodies from the inside. Not aetherical beings but parasites - like the bodysnatchers
Yes, the one-armed one
she was the daughter of the first hive
Insects went into her mothers mouth and then she was ripped apart from the inside
Didnt know she was included anywhere else in the lore
King is mentioned once at the end of Bad As They Seem
Hang on ill read it again
Ada Ruth shell: "Only found out 1 was pregnant after we'd all been brought in to the asylum. Doctor told me. I told him well then Praise Jesus, cause I'm the Virgin Mary, and he shook his head. But I wasn't lying. I had never had relations. When they cut the baby out of me, I wasn't supposed to see, but I did. It was strange, and hard, and dead, like a piece of old, chewed up wood. Don't have any living children"
Didnt rember that entry
*remember
doesnt sound like a larvae, just supernatural miscarriage
mby
but still very corporal
"Lynch's arm was changing. Sharp carapace ripped through the leather of her coat, revealing a grey spiked limb, double jointed and bent at strange angles" ... Insect, spider? Or smthg different?
Still cant find Ms King...
Entry just before that
Two entries actually
Shes mentioned in both
Nellie is her first name
Its crown not king
My bad
Ah! Nellie!
The one that carries both, "Angel" and snake.
Btw: Angels have wings, like flys, wasps and moths. The "angel" is an enemy of the AHA and of the snake (the one that helped the twins). Nellie seems possessed by 2 spirits from different fractions, but she still has her own concious, different from Reed or Salter. She was talking with Snake & Angel, not being controlled by them. ---
“Tell me about the Angel Nellie," Huffington said as he took her pulse. "What does it look like?"
"Don't see it, feel it. Angel's right there, Doctor Sir. Right there," she pointed to her rib cage. "And here," she said, pointing to her lower abdomen, lowering her voice to a whisper, "Here is where the snake lives. He's quiet now, all quiet. Shhh shh shh. Let's not wake him, doctor."
Huffington opened his mouth to speak, but Lynch interrupted him. "Nellie, do the Angel and the Snake speak to you?"
"Not like you and I speak, no. Get the feeling thoughts come into my head, just from nothing, get the feeling those thoughts come from here." She looked back to the places she had pointed
"Nellie," Lynch said, her voice sweet and rotten, her eyes on Nellie's, unwavering. "Would you mind telling me what the Angel tells you now?" And as she ended the sentence she drew a jagged blade and ran it across Huffington's throat. The cry that had started in his throat turned into a wet choking sound as he grasped at the wound, hands red with blood.
"Oh it's very pleased ma'am, very pleased," Nellie replied, cheerful as a daisy. "The Snake doesn't like it much, but I've learned not to listen to the treacherous thing. Are you a doctor, ma'am?" ---
Hmmm.... the water devils and the leeches of the Meatheads could be interpretated as larvae, OR as snakelike creatures. but if they belonged to a different faction they should attack the more insectoid beings...
Interesting thing on Ada's brother: "Samuel Shell - Treated for three broken fingers, broken nose. Appears calm. Plays with blocks. When questioned says the flies flew away with his Mama, but that God would fly with her to Heaven and keep her safe until he could bring her back to him. Says the flies are the wings on Heaven's angels. Reacts violently to the presence of insects"
"I thought maybe all of us were infected. We were all living in that house. All eating the same food and breathing whatever was in that air. I thought it would happen to every one of us, person for person. I think that's what they removed from my belly. Some kind of larvae gone wrong Baby didn't come and didn't come and well I told you about what they cut out of me. "
So Ada's brother calls the insects of the hive "Angels".
So there are at least 4 factions amongst the supernatural: Sculptor/Insects/Angels, Snake, Lord of the dead, Lynch. Lynch and the Snake fight against the sculptor and against each other. The lord of the dead has a grudge against Lynch. Other relations are unknown.
They all interact with the "mortal world" mostly through human agents, but they use them quite differently: The sculptor seems to inject some of his brethren (be it spirits or larvae) into humans to control them; Lynch took a human body as her own and manipulates other humans like a typical psychopath; the snake just talks to humans, and its up to them if they believe her or not (Jos&Fin did, Nellie didnt); The Lord of the dead dosent seem to be interested into our world, but was willing to negotiate with the twins when they visited him and to give them vital information against his enemy Lynch.
A good theory with much backing, but the lack of conflict between these factions in the bayou leaves much doubt
And doesnt explain what is going on, seeing as mirror theory is out the window for this one
Perhaps there is a way to combine them, but i dont see it
And using human agents is only useful for social methods, something they seem mostly averse to
In all other aspects, the Loa form is superior on the macro
On the micro, human form is better
Much more direct and articulate
Thx. Hardly a theory so far... too many bits of information missing, to many things not clear. But I try to find some structures and returning patterns that seem to make sense (like trying to identify the different supernatural factions and their motivs in order to understand the AHA's (our) main enemy: the sculptor(s)). I rly like the mirror-theory, but it dosent convince me yet(even so we dont have much else). The evil in the bayou seems to me very physical/corporal in nature. How could Insects be close to the nature of the sculptor, if he dosent have a body? Even so bodies seem to be smthg the otherworldly beings can change quite alot ("Dr Reed" building a new body; Lynch changing the form of her hands alot; the Assassin dispersing into several beings; ...) the concept of bodies dosent seem strange to them.
The Assassin seems to be a singular individual as well, since he appeared before the Plague and travelled far (from New Orleans to Nicaragua at least). Since he killed a politician, it seems the Assassin and his fraction is even aware of and meddling with international human politics. That means the supernatural beings are able to understand the human nature quite well and theire plans seem to be much more sophisticated then just building hives and growing in the bayou (cough universal brotherhood cough).
The association with insects would have to be explained with soul physics, which makes it a difficult question. It could be their small size has a similarly small and easily controllable soul, their lack of intelligence would make them much more coercible than mammals and other creatures. As for the corporeal nature of their interactions, if sculptor is familiar with human biology, why would his creatures be cloned with their clothes on? Assassin’s dispersion is the work of many smaller creatures, which we can clearly see are still unmodified insects in his stun attack. As for Lynch, she is most certainly more familiar to the concepts than other Loa due to her experiences as a human being, but even then the implement she crafts to replace Fin’s leg and the thing with her arm are crude methods, similar to the armored. Thats why theyre so jagged, they barely understand the mechanics behind biological interaction, so theyve no idea how to optimize their designs. That, and because the interaction is so loose. Spirit controls the body in odd ways, so by influencing the spirit you can mess with the body. Like working a pair of nail clippers with a pair of tweezers. Lastly, i think assassin was his own individual without ties to sculptor prior to events in the bayou, he shows almost no signs of sentience in game other than his laugh.
And sculptors objective isnt growth, its accumulation of biological material for pseudo industrial purposes
Thus, why the only description we have of the other side is a lot of fire, biological material combusts, thats what its used for in animals and in industry
we had a letter that confirmed there being multiple entities at play, and the immolator and water devils were supposed to attack every other mob iirc
as for the assassin, I think he might have been working with a loa, as in hestruck a deal with the sculptor: it helps him take out his targets and get out via bug form, and he comes to louisiana to protect its interests
as for the multiple names for the assassin, it might either be the same guy changing names, or different ppl having struck the same kind of deal
thats my two cents, anyway
Im not convinced of the whole idea of the incorporal mirror-universe so far, so I try to make things fit into my own ideas. But it isnt necessarly a bad thing to approach the matter from more then one direction. Okay, lets keep the nature of the loa aside. We have talked alot about the Spider and the Assassin. The Butcher seems... weird. What is his purpose? Spider cauterizes, Assassin attacks Hunters. Whats the Butcher doing? There are always lots of cadavers (humans or swine) in his area, blood, bones, flesh. Is he gathering ressources? To bring them on the other side or to create new creatures? Maybe performing some kind of ritual? And how did he come into the sculptors possession? Afaik he is only the skin of a Meathead put on some Clay or wooden figure, right? How could anything (be it a spirit or larvae) possess such a homunculus? It sounds more like a golem then an animated corps or a mutated lifeform to me.
The idea of humans making deals, accepting gifts from and cooperating with the sculptor hadnt come to me yet. I thought the assassin to have been an outerworldly being disguised as a human so far. interesting thought.
Tamrat thought meatheads to be "soul-harvesters" and "vampiric". Could the Butcher, as being partly meathead, serve a similar purpose?
Oh, and I just re-read the lore-text of "sins of the son": "Cruelly bloodied, patricide marked the first of many cursed rites carried out in no name by this Romero, in the hands of Glanton." --- Glantons patricide is described as a "cursed rite", which would speak for the twins being of value to Lynch after killing their biological father. Maybe they unknowingly performed a powerful ritual. Maybe Durant even knowingly provoked them to kill him (he didnt resist!). Glanton, even so a dimwit, seems to have grown quickly into a powerful hunter as well (not only did he kill the Spider before anyone else, he also repelled the Assassin and he lives out in the bayou... without dying after 1 hour). A weird thing is, that nobody except himself ever mentions his nameless companion. And in the lore text it says "carried out in no name by this Romero, in the hands of Glanton". Maybe the nameless and Glanton are somehow the same person? Maybe the nameless is just in Glantons head, the spirit of a dead hunter guiding him? It says, Harold Black fled in guilt after his father died and he talks alot about his final words. Is he guilty of patricide as well? Is this some kind of cruel price hunters have to pay for power? The Meathead was born, clawing its way out of its mothers belly, thereby killing her. Ada's purpose in becoming a hunter was putting her cursed mother to rest - killing her mother. Nelly talks about her terrible mother. Salter seems to have issues with his family. Caldwell broke with his father. Its a reappearing theme. Even in the music: "Papa went down to the pasture - Papa ain’t coming back - Brother went down to the pasture - Devil on his back - Run, Papa, run Run, Papa, run Run, Papa, won’t you run ".
The Butcher probably killed his creator as well...
the butcher might be more of a physical brute force, while spider comes in and reaps what he destroys
as for the butcher being clay and skin, he had blood at one point but I think they retconned that
it was in the night seers bio that he saw the end of the world in th butchers blood
Well, in his lore text he was "built" by a taxodermist, and the devs went through the trouble of explaining how stuffed animals are actually created (I didnt know before reading it either 😄 ). Surely not a coincidence... But the "blood" of the Grunts seems to be no normal blood as well. Maybe Maggots have formed a network through the butchers hull as well and are supplied by some weird fluid that flows through his clay-veins...
We often read of parts of the creatures coming back to life (the dissected Grunt of Dr Winkler suddenly evolving and moving, the rest of the Armored studied by Black and Tamrat being eaten by maggots, the hands taken as trophies by Hardin's & Chamber's group coming back to live and attacking them). Maybe some Maggots were still alive in the meatheads skin, and started building a new, functioning body again out of the material the Taxodermist gave them. It is said, that his exponates survived a fire, being fire-resistent. Same is true for the butcher, so the general material he was made of seems to be the same even after he came back to life.
Next boss got to be a snake don't it?
why?
cause snake are snake man like the spider is a spider
Oh makes sense ok
Next boss got to be a snake don't it?
@slim elm Well so far the snake has only helped the hunters & the AHA. The enemy of the AHA seems to be the sculptor who is an insect.
What do you guys think about the new archeologist DLC description? It says that she came to the bayou because in her dreams she saw two children (the twins) tumbling into black water and so she thought it was important. I guess it’s implied here that she went there to help them, even without any obvious reason (just like John Victor who was following them and protecting them even though we don’t know why)
maybe its like that woman who was pregnant with an 'angel', they just get that unnatural urge to do something
Interesting. The first thought is ofc the twins. But then again: They are hardly children anymore. Maybe it hints towards "mental" children, like the dimwits Nelly & Glanton? Or to offspring of other hunters (then the twins, as durants children might be in again)... Or it actually means CHILDREN. There are some strong hints towards the involvement of children (the lord of the deads true body on the table is the smallest statue)... And then there is the boy... I wanted to first gather more information ,re-read some sources again and think it through before I post it here, but before a new patch comes out... Lets talk about my guess of the "sculptor's" mortal vessel's identity: Tommy Frank.
who is that?
First of: Most sources we have are by people who know very little of the things that are happening in the bayou. Even Scientists like Black, Tamrat or Winkler can only guess, whats happening. But we got some stories from supernatural beings as well. Most of them come from Lynch, but lets put her aside, since she is an enemy of the sculptor. More interesting would be allies or servants of the sculptor to gather direct information on him. Now for his creatures: People who get turned or effected by the disease usually die or turn into (more or less) mindless beasts. But there are two notable exceptions, 2 persons who describe their "turning" from a first person's point of view: Dr Reed and William Salter. Both of them get at some point infescted with the disease and change personality into something inhuman, violant and aggressive. In Reeds case the transformation is (as far as we know) complete and irreversible, while Salter seems to switch between his human personality and his evil personality. They both show similar behaviour, so I guess actually more or less the same happened to them: beast like behaviour ---- Patient name: William Salter ... He is dangerous to himself and others and attempts to harm anyone who nears. Tears his clothing and bites his chair, when strapped down to it. Has to be kept constantly under surveillance. Shows no signs of intelligence and is not capable of speech. Utters moaning barks when agitated, otherwise silent. Pupils constantly dilated, though we have found no symptoms of a corresponding ailment ---- compare this too: --- I am thirsty, so thirsty, but I do not wish to talk to the others. Their presence is…offensive to me. They smell of refuse and offal. ... They look at me strangely, and I hiss when they near. ---
@amber harbor The son of Mrs. Florence Frank.
First interview in the butcher lore.
@jagged tide twins are 16, so I guess they can be called children especially by an older person that is the archeologist
Second: "Operating" on other humans. Salter: ---I am a surgeon now. Pappy would be so proud Following in the family line
No proper tools. The sharpest knife in the cabin is the blade fastened to the talon with cutting wire I pushed the sharp point into her flesh just above the wound where I shot her, and she was unconscious, but she moaned Slicing the flesh was easy enough. --- Reed: --- Flesh parts, butter beneath the warm knife. I do not wait. I do not pray. The flesh dwindles. Body and blood, given for you. ... I have removed the leg. I felt nothing, not even the vibrations of the bone saw against my femur. I dined by candlelight, alone. --- etc. So, Salter and Reed had the same kind of special "disease": They turned into concious monster. Reed became the Spider by cutting humans into pieces and adding their bodys to his own, but Salters only started his experiments with Mary (the "swamp peach") when he was killed by the twins. So, the two cases are similar. And both of them mention a boy at crucial times of their transformation, at times where no sane person would have tried to come close to them: Salter ---
The boy hands me the rifle. Gleaming I remove the leather covering from the lens and raise the gun to my shoulder. The bison big I see them shake their manes. I hold my breath and squeeze the trigger
Boy coughs -shot ricochets -miss I chased the boy to give him a whooping.
A boy accompanying him while hes shoots at an mutilated corpse. Helped him. Fooled around with him. No normal kid I'd say. How did hit come out there? Why was it there? Why wasnt it when the twins came and killed Salters? Why did the sane Salters never talk of the boy? Because the boy only visited the turned Salters. Or maybe, when the boy visited, Salters turned.
Dr. Reed: --- I am thirsty, so thirsty, but I do not wish to talk to the others. Their presence is…offensive to me. They smell of refuse and offal. ++ My strength wanes; yet, when the boy approached, it...I enjoy his company now. The others fear he's been taken. He has. ++ ... They speak of a Dr. Reed but I do not remember him. Perhaps they are mistaken, and he was never here. Their faces go dark when I suggest it. ++ ... More blackouts now. Today I came to and found the boy gone. My only comfort. --- So right at the point, were Dr Reed lost his mind, was possessed by an outerworldly being, a boy kept him company. He didnt like the presence of others, but the boy gave hims strenght - even so he didnt like the boy before, as his words imply. The boy acts weird, and the others fear him to be "taken" and Reed confirms it! They boy has been taken by the disease, even so he is well. -> he is possessed as well.
So we got a possessed boy accompanying 2 persons turning - one of them into a boss (Spider). But there is more. Afaik Dr Reed was living in Arden parish and fled with a group of 13 after everything went to hell there. The last thing we knew about Arden perish is, that there was supposed to be a meeting concerning the "flue" that was going around. The building this meeting was supposed to happen in, was the building in the middle of the town... the one with the giant hole in the wall that looks like the entrance of an alien-nest. This building had the SCHOOL-rooms on the upper floor as well. So something terrible probably happened during that meeting. I think the boy, the sculptor, was present. So he lived in Arden parish.
Ariel D'aunoy, the Taxodermist and creator of the butcher lived (afaik - correct me if I am wrong) in Arden parish as well, until he was forced to flee into the Slaughterhouse, where he created the butcher. And the creator of the butcher had the company of a boy as well: --- *March 4. I have been forced to flee my home. The flu reached our neighborhood and I was handed the blame. ... I Hope to return to my home in a few weeks, though that may be optimistic. Perhaps the plague will have taken my wretched neighbors by then *The night I left, the three boys already had the cough. The mother won't be long after, once they pass, if their predecessors are any sign as to how the illness progresses. Thinking of how they turned people I once thought of as friends against me, my thoughts grow morbid. Perhaps I should return and stuff the boys. That would show that shipwreck of a woman just how artful I am. --- Interview with Mrs. Florence Frank Interviewer New Orleans Constable Date: April 2nd, 1895 Typewritten, questions omitted(..) 8.5" x 11"
Sir, I beg your pardon, but I am certain that man brought the plague down upon this town, God rest his soul. The flu has taken so many already My own sons have the cough. But God has delivered his punishment
...
My husband and I made clear that he was not welcome, and yes we encouraged our neighbors to do the same. It was our Christian duty. Of course, our Tommy took a liking to the man. Fool he is. I forbid him to ever cross his threshold. but I'm sure he has. and no manner of hidings will cure the boy. **
One day he was just gone. I wish I could say I am sorry to hear he has passed, considering the state they found him. But that was God's justice, you'll mark my word. ---
So Tommy Frank, the son of Ariel D'aunoy's neighbour, Florence Frank, had not only take a liking to Mr D'aunoy, he also cought the disease - and obviously survived it alot longer then expected! Ofc these hints & clues are small, but I think it would make sense, that the boy, who accompanied the spider when it was created, also was present when the Butcher was created. And he learnt of Taxodermi by D'aunoy! What is Taxodermi? Put the skin of a creature upon smthg different in a way, that it seems to be the same as the original. Isnt the sculptor doing the same? He creates creatures that only use the HULL, the skin, of humans, but are something VERY different on the inside (see Winklers research on the Grunt!). The boy is immitating the taxodermist. He learnt from him. He is creating new creatures out of the bodies of humans, making new "scultpures". Thats the outlines of my theory in a nutshell. I fear I gotta go now, and cant keep on writing, but maybe some of you have some ideas on this.
@jagged tide thought it was confirmed in old QnA that reed wasnt spider. And salter was talking about hunting bison, not the undead, its a memory, probably
Yeah, first question of the qna, bottom of pinned message. Youve certainly made the association with children quite clear, but it is not certain that it is the same boy.
My biggest complaint would be that the theory doesnt answer questions just brings up new ones. And if sculptor is present in human form how is he capable of all this? There is clearly work to be done maintaining the cohesive nature of the bayou monsters, that stuff wouldnt just reanimate itself.
Salter mixes up things, but he talks about shooting at Mary's corpse (we know from the twins that he used her body as a target for shooting-practice while it was nailed to a tree) while at the same time he remembers his time hunting bisons in the west. Hes way beyond sanity at this point, but he is talking about his "target practice" not the past, the memories from the west just slip in between.... imho. Ofc the boy could be part of his memory as well, but I dont think so. Here is the full text: --- her corpse outside before it stiffened, strung it up against the cypress tree I nailed her hands into the bark above her head she didn't feel it shh don't worry, you won't feel a thing the sparks sparks sparks haha, well it should take down an elephant, now human flesh human flesh so delicate so easy to rip shrapnel of flesh arteries blood wet mass this is a true haunting a baptism hers and mine - out on the prairie sky above sky above and grass in the wind. Far away that bison herd snorting and snuffling wander on and on like flies crawling on her skin Take off my hat. fine piece from a fine haberdashery. The boy hands me the rifle. Gleaming I remove the leather covering from the lens and raise the gun to my shoulder. The bison big I see them shake their manes. I hold my breath and squeeze the trigger - Boy coughs shot ricochets - miss -I chased the boy to give him a whooping. --- Reed clearly turned into smthg evil and if he isnt the spider, then he still took part in its creation, since it consists of the bodies of his party, which he dismembered. Reeds words: "I begin to remember… I will wait for them tonight, wait. I am spider and scorpion and moth. " . I dont try to explain the nature of the loa, I try to identify the sculptor. Thats my theory: The sculptor inhabits the body of Tommy Frank.
And how can it perform such complicated actions while in a major possession. Weve already seen that it vastly limits their capabilities, so how can it be the cause of these events when it is so preoccupied? And if it is a group of Loa, then Tommy Frank would be an assistant, not the sculptor himself.
Frank being at least 6 or so means a very prolongrd occupation with its time
You cannot hope to identify it without knowledge of what it is and how it operates. Our current difficulties with identification is a lack of true differentiation. They can likely possess more than one body at a time, so thinking of it in human terms will always fall flat
We need some defining feature (perhaps the biological affiliation of insects you’ve identified) to even know where one ends and another begins
Guys, what's the lore on l'lorona's heir if there is any
I guess only whats written at the skin: "Much like the legend whose name she uses, Llorona earned her fearsome reputation by drowning her victims and haunting her enemies. Like a shade, she is fast and subtle, with both gun and knife."
Reading in wikipedia, Liorona seems to be a latin-american-Variant of the antique Medea: "La Llorona, Spanish for the Weeping Woman has been a part of the Hispanic culture since the 16th century when the Conquistadors were active. ... In Latin American folklore, specifically Mexican, La Llorona (pronounced [la ʝoˈɾona]; "The Wailing Woman" or "the Cryer") is an oral legend about the ghost of a woman who steals children to drown them. ... The lore states a woman was unloved by her husband and her husband loved their two sons instead of her. She caught her husband with another woman and drowned her sons in a river. Out of grief and anger she then drowned herself. She was refused entry to heaven until she found the souls of her two sons. She cries and wails and takes children and drowns them in the river she and her sons drowned in."
Ok... I get it.
2 sons, both drowned in deep water.
So it might be 2 boys...
Interesting.
A connection between the 2 native-american skins and a hint towards dead children drowned in water.
In the school building were a few names written on the chalkboard. Thommy wasnt among them. Gotta check the screenshot I made...
Torgot, Big J, Jan. But that sounds more like devs...
Hmmm
still, thx for the hint
Never thought to look into that name
So, thats 2 more sources of lore to investigate: Gotta look deeper into the desciptions of skins&weapons and into real-world-myths.
"The rat" Ramirez is just "the ugly" from Sergio Leone's "the good, the bad and the ugly", right? Or was there a historical person the character in the movie is based on?
Hey I hate to be a bother but is there a place to read most of the lore concisely. And is there any information in the ritual or how hunters get initiated into the AHA or acquire dark sight
@haughty mural Check pinned in this channel!

Thank you so much!!
@jagged tide can confirm, she is “the ugly”, I believe that’s what her character is called in the game files
What's the bio on the Professor hunter ?
His name is Harold Black and he is known as the most prominent researcher of the creatures that appeared during the event. You can read more about him and his research in the lore entry on the Assassin, for example
@polar fable thanks
@polar fable thx. Since I missed the point on Lionora I wanted to take a closer look on all the legendary hunter bios, and wondered if the rat is more then a pop-culture-reference.
Ok, the Archaelogist didnt just add a hint towards Lionora. "The Destruction of Palatkwapi" might be very interesting. I know little about native american mythlogy, but this myth from the Hopi does not only include supernatural beings, but a giant serpent and twins play an important role in it as well. Too tired to try and figure out more right now, but I will look into this a bit tomorrow.
Catching back up on this thread, days old, someone mentioned wanting Jos and Finn skins
There's plenty of them already in the game.
Snake Seer, First Forge, Blood Oath, Alison are skins associated with the Twins.
@tiny scarab I think he meant as a Hunter-skin, not weapon-skins. But imho we have seen the twins already in some of the vids: they just have a female Hunter lvl3 (hood=Fin) and lvl2 (scarf=Jos) skins.
Why cant the Hopi tell their myths in a way somebody understands? 😄 I didnt find an easy understandable or short summary of the story, so I try to write one myself, using what little I understood: The Destruction of Palatkwapi seems to be a similar story like the abrahamitic "sinflood". The Hopi lived in the village of Palatkwapi, the red house, a place of red stone surrounded by big walls beneath which alot of water was running. There was a large temple district, in which the star-people taught the Hopi many things. With time the new generations living in the village became "bad". Because of that an old man together with the village-chief and his son, who all were secretly evil(?) sorceres, performed a ritual, that destroyed the Village 4 years later. The ritual summoned water serpents who flooded most of the Village and made the buildings collapse, killing many citizens. The Village-Chief was asked for help and his son and daughter performed another ritual banishing the serpents & stopping the water (and both disappearing forever). After that the Hopi left the ruined village never to return. Two twin-brothers had slept through the flood and were now living alone in the abbandoned city. The biggest water-serpent returned and sympathized with the boys. He spoke to them, told them he was their grandfather. He gave them advice how to find food and how to follow the other people and their parents. He gave them a part of his flesh, which could be used to summon the rain for the crops. On the way to theri people the god of war and thunder descendet upon the boys. He taught them the rituals and ways of war. Later they reunited with their people and found their mother. When the Hopi were attacked by the Apache, the twin brothers (even so still children) alone faced them. The god of war & thunder (who had revealed to be their father) gave them lightning&thunder as weapons, which they used to kill the Apache. The 2 of them then chose another person to be war-chief.
The names of the twins were Palöngawhoya and Pöqánghoya and, if I understood correctly what I read, they are reffered to as deitys as well. I am not sure what to make out of this. There is a connection between those twins (Fin&Jos?) and a serpent (their grandfather), the god of war (their father) taught them to fight (Lynch?) and gave them powerful magical weapons (like the one they got from the lord of the dead?). Does this mean a ritual was made by persons in stillwater bayou to destroy the place? To get revenge on the people there? This dosent seem very helpful. Does anybody know a better summary or a different variant of the story? Or has an idea how it could be connected to the Hunt-lore?
Wow it’s definitely possible to see an analogy between this legend and the events of the game. It says in the description of the Archeologist dlc that she realized the importance of her dreams about 2 children in Louisiana (supposedly the twins), so I think we can assume that according to the Archeologist’s point of view a) similar things have happened before b) there is a connection between those and the Louvent
There is a question though: are Loas and the Hopi gods the same beings? Because if they are, then it makes sense, the difference is (and it might be significant) there was no rivalry between the gods in the Hopi legend (one god taught the twins to summon rain, the second god taught them to fight) while in Louisiana the gods (or Loas) are fighting each other it seems. So if the twins are the core of this event and they have a certain purpose, then the conflict between the Loas isn’t letting them do what they must in some way, so the Archeologist helps them (because she knows something we don’t)
Anyway, I think I should also read the legend myself and try to find some more interesting things in it
One thing to remember is that what some perceive to be loas in this game, others see as demons, and others see as a plague. A large part of the way the devs wanted to write this lore is that everyone are unreliable narrators because they see things through their own lenses
So you have to sift through that for the truth
A large part of that too is thinking about who is writing each piece and the motive behind it. For example some newspaper clippings might be pushing one perspective, versus a personal journal is a look into the person who wrote it too
Sure, so I guess it’s safe to refer to those gods or Loas just as supernatural beings
Been reading about the Hopi and so on and found this interesting
Interesting. Similar to the Mayan's world cycles (last one ended 2012 bringing us from 5th to 6th world). So the destruction of Palatkwapi was smthg of that kind, a change of worlds? Would make sense, since the way I understood it, it was destroyed because of the "sins" of the new generations.
It's unrelated, but I wanted to mention it before I forget again: The bedlam lullaby is supposed to be P.H. Jones' weapon and this expansive ivory Dolch has an inscriputre: "Jessica 4.11.1893". His other gun, a one of one-thousand Winfield-C, is named "Augusta" after his wife. So if Augusta was his wife, whom is his other (much more valuable) gun named after? Who is/was Jessica? His daugther? Former wife? Lover? Did she die in 1893?
Yeah also the Spider woman delivering the most obedient to the next world with some physical changes? Sounds familiar, although I don’t think that it’s the purpose of the Spider in Hunt
yes. But as you said aswell: The supernatural beings in Hunt are supposed to be the origin of rl-myths in the huntverse, not their exact equivalent. So a spider (or a serpent) being present was enough for the Hopi of the huntverse to form their myth the way they did. We shouldnt forget Lionora. Lionora is searching for her 2 boys that she drowned, while the mother of Palöngawhoya and Pöqánghoya in the Hopi-myths leaves her children behind because she believes they have drowned. Very different in the idea but similar in the circumstances. And as I have pointed out before, I believe many things point towards the sculptor hiding inside the body of a boy. Maybe the twins in question are not Jos&Fin but the sculptor(s) - maybe there is more then one sculptor and all of them possess children. Now, this is ofc more speculation then anything but brainstorming might help finding the right track. Since we have now a myth from the hopi, a myth from mexico and some voodoo references it seems to me we should look more into the local myths of northern america... The interesting points so far (imho) would be water, twins, insects, snakes.
Glad to see an archaeologist in the hunt universe finally
Wow, just found out that Marie Laveau and Doctor John were real persons, interesting stuff
I knew about Laveau, but Dr John too? wow!
Quite ballsy to make an existing person a playable character of the game...
he led a sex cult irl
Now I know why its my favorite skin 😉
So what are we in this game other than bounty hunters/mercinary.. how do our hunter get this dark sight power
Most videos or posts are about the library lore, not the game itself or the universe
Well the books in the library contain most of the lore anyways, but the dark sight is obtained by performing a special ritual of initiation so that you can formally become resistant to the “plague” and get the ability to track the monsters down (it is also known that children of hunters inherit their dark sight abilities)
Interesting
big fan of the lore book entries for the nagant pistols and the romero
@wispy dagger Yeah. Chambers and Glanton are among the most interesting Characters.
Where can i find info on the Researcher hunter ? back story stuff like that if any available.
@rocky bloom in the entry on the Assassin
Thank you @polar fable
@wispy dagger Glanton is mentioned in the entries of Spider & Assassin as well - but not his nameless companion for some reason...
Can someone explain the quickplay lore? Are hunters randomly resurrected or what is it about
We dont know, quickplay has one mention ever, some of us here might have some ideas though. Something to do with damnation, degradation of the soul maybe? Something along those lines
@rugged lodge I believe that Quickplay is sort of the purgatory of the Hunt world, where the lost souls of the Hunters go to fight one last time in the Sculptors realm for salvation of said soul. It allows them to do what they do best, and try again to live and continue fighting and hunting, with the Wellspring being the energy to bring them back from death or the brink of death.
Don't quote me as being correct on this, but it's what I believe to be correct based off my assumption of the Wellspring being a source of internal power
Not to mention, "rise up dead man" is the main theme and when you enter QP it says "rise up, damned soul"
I'm combing through the weapon masteries as of right now, but I seem to be missing something.
The mastery of the Crown and King is by Charlie Salter, and they are labeled 1/4 and 2/4. I can't quite seem to find the other ones.
Are they in the game as of yet or am I somehow glossing over them?
@tiny scarab I don’t think there is any additional info on that which might mean that we’ll know more about Charlie in additional Crown and King entries (I suppose they are going to add a variant of C&K where the story will be continued)
A gulag basically
Actually it fits, a gulag and the last sruvivor gets a second chance
The hunters are forced back to life to fight for another chance
But this suggest that any hunter that dies in the plagued area loses the soul to some other entity rather than "god" hence calling you damned soul.. idk its a miss 😄
The arabic text on the new nitro skin says: "as your mercy in heaven, we have to violate death. As we don't deserve redemption(fida), we have to find forgiveness for our sins."
-Copied from Reddit
That answered my yesterdays question
Hit me up if you need an arabic translator crytek
So why does that nitro have an Arabic inscription? Interesting language to be inscribed on a gun in the Louisiana bayou but I don’t know much of the Hunt lore unfortunately. Is their a hunter in the lore who is Arabic?
Yes there is a group of Arabic hunters called the Sinners. It’s unknown where they come from exactly but it seems at least several of them travelled to Louisiana to hunt
There was a letter in which one of the Sinners talked about his journey to America and how he was going to kill a “genie” in exchange for some cards of a “true deck”. Those cards were on the roadmap at some point but the idea got scrapped it seems. Those must have been pretty valuable if this guy had to go to America to get some of them
Arabs started immigration in the 1870s to the US due to the ottoman empire.. the immigrant were mostly christian Lebanese but there were like 10% muslims (mostly travelers or traders) .. the game takes place in the 1880 if i am not wrong, so i thi,k most of these hunters were Lebanese
It’s 1895 tho
Has the doc been updated with all the archaeologist’s info? Or would someone be able to summate it’s implications into the wider lore?
Sinners isnt entirely arabic, but it has a large arabic majority/minority
@rotund ferry no confident implications
True deck is a number of different tarot card decks that can forsee the future in odd ways. Like a spiritual self help book
@rugged lodge term infidel is used in the old document, implying its a muslim. Could be wrong on that, its in the old book
Ah I see
The text on the nitro skin is supposed to be by a muslim hunter so yeah you are right
Or "infidel"
Since persuing "cards" or any supernatural items that reveal future events are kinda forbidden in islam.. hence calling themselves sinners or infidel
Just to inform you, im new to this game so i dont have all the lore unlocked
The anglican members of the group thought it had to do with the murdering of whiteshirts, but the relationship was strictly business, so having different interpretations makes sense.
I like me some mystery tho, not everything has to be explained in the game
You get tired of the mystery once you figure out how little the lore actually says
The only things we have confirmed outside of what we see in game is the existence of a couple of people
And the death of PHJ
Oh, so there is little known compared to hidden 😄
Yeah, theres plenty of documents, but as far as im aware the nagant entries are the only corroboration anywhere
It’s interesting, I’ve been looking through some older lore pieces and there was a letter to PHJ I think from a guy named something Pepella, don’t quite remember, so he was speaking about the threat posed by the Sculptor while stating that the Sculptor can be anyone (or possess anyone)
So I remembered the theory about a boy being the Sculptor
Also - do we have any info on the dolls scattered around the maps? Ducks too
Well I mean the ducks are Easter eggs
But the dolls?
@polar fable I am not sure, but iirc in the final battle between Lynch and the twins Lynch used such a doll to summon... something. Gotta check on it later. So they might be smthg like supernatural-amunition?
@rugged lodge Most the lore can be found ingame: Imho the entries in the book of monsters are the most clear sources (especially the boss-entries). Book of weapons is more like anecdotes of characters in the Huntverse and therefor limited by the knowledge/sanity/perspective of those characters - except for the "bad as they seem"-storyline, but that one is so different from the game, it could almost be another Universe. The comments on legendary weapon and/or hunter-skins are quite cryptic since they are short and usually out of context (but they often contain infos found nowhere else). There is very little lore found yet inside the maps themself (letters that can only be read with lamp & scope, the cocoons) - actually I found alot more eastereggs then lore-related stuff (which is kinda sad, either there is much more eastereggs then lore, or the rly interesting stuff is hidden too good for me). But outside of the game is alot of lore as well (in the trailers, songs and entries in social-media). Most of those infos are pinned to this channel, so give it a look.
Thoughts as to what exactly is Glanton's deal? Seen a lot of folks here interested in him, so here's what I've managed to piece together:
- From his journal, we get how he was initiated - interestingly not via AHA or Lynch's stuff - just with herb - groundsel, hackberry, devil's snare, maybe others.
- The man with no name gets him started on hunting the Spider. Later, John Victor references Glanton as the first he knew of to kill a Spider, but it seems that at this point Glanton's on his own - so did he kill the man with no name? Did the Spider?
- In the journals, seems to respect his Pa and religion of a sort, but had to leave home last summer on account of a boy - it sounds like from context they fought and Glanton drowned him (or maybe they were in love and THEN Glanton drowned him?).
- When we later (undated, but I'm assuming) meet Glanton in Harold Black's journal, he's experienced enough to have fought the Assassin until morning (Bible nerds may find this a reference to Jacob wrestling with the angel). He now wears black and strings bones from his clothes.
- Glanton's name may be a reference to the real-life John Joel Glanton, who was a Texas Ranger and wound up leading the notorious scalp-hunting Glanton Gang. Interestingly enough, Glanton's second-in-command was a man known as Judge Holden, made famous in Cormac McCarthy's novel Blood Meridian. At one point in the novel, he says: “It makes no difference what men think of war, said the judge. War endures. As well ask men what they think of stone. War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner. That is the way it was and will be… War is the ultimate game because war is at last a forcing of the unity of existence. War is god.”
(sorry I only just started on this lore thing and I am perhaps a little too excited about it)
@fleet epoch Glantons companion is implied to not be real if i remember correctly. The romero hatchet skin alludes to it along with his bizarre presence in the romero masteries
He does have a judge holden vibe but without the charisma
Innnnteresting - what makes you say he's not real? I mean, I buy it, but it feels like it could go either way
And thanks for pointing me to the skin - interestingly it says patricide was the first thing it was used for in Glanton's hands, meaning... that group of devout Hunters he met in the journals included Glanton's dad??
Patricide is probably an event further down the line. It says something along the lines of “By Glanton’s hand, in the name of no one” implying a fight club style identity disorder
Does it say patricide is its first use? Thatd be odd as iirc the devout shot Glanton first
@fleet epoch If you read the entry on the Romero, you find out that the first Romero Glanton had was taken from the hands of a dead man (thats why he was removing the number). When he looses the first Romero he wrote, that his Pa would never forgive him for loosing HIS gun. I always interpreted that as Glanton having killed his father - the lore-text of "sins-of-the-son" seems to confirm that, even though you are right: This should be the second romero he only found later... Patricide or Matricide seems to be a reapearing theme (the twins, Ada, devil-in-the-chruchyard, the meathead, etc) and some kind of initiation-step in the hunt lore. Glanton seems to have become a very powerfull hunter indeed. In Black's journal it is noted that he is living in the bayou, while everybody else dies after about an hour.
Glanton drowned a boy... Totally forgot that. So a drowning boy again, huh? Tommy Frank, Salter's boy, Lionora, the Archeologist, Palatkwapi, ...
@junior pecan - I got the idea that it was first use because "patricide marked the first of many cursed rites carried out in no name by this Romero, in the hands of Glanton." So possibly not its first ever use, but the first "cursed rite carried out in no name." The "in no name" sounds like a callback to the man with no name, but also doesn't really make sense that way. Sounds more like Glanton's not killing anyone for the sake of any particular cause (AHA) or benefit (Lynch), but just for the sheer bloody fun of it.
@jagged tide yeah lots of drowning... lots of swamp to drown in, I suppose. Kinda feels like the environment itself swallows people up, at least thematically.
That makes more sense
Hey guys new here I was just wondering how does the hunters have dark sight or is it just a thing everyone has, who gives it to them or how is it granted.
@snow dome they go through a ceremony to become a hunter. And in turn they get powers like dark sight
In terms of who gives it to them that is yet to be announced and yet there can be some speculation behind that
Is the researcher from the DLC pack the same researcher as the one writing the research notes about the book? Because it seems he's always referring to them as if he never saw them
Yup! That would be Harold Black. The man mainly recognized for his Assassin documentation. He became the main contributor to what is known in the hunt-verse as a guide to all monsters
So did he write the guide before coming to Louisiana? Because that's the only real way it makes sense that he'd be skeptical about survivor's descriptions
Well what happened was that he knew the Assassin since before it became the boss monster. and tracked it. he ran across hunters and slowly began gather info on their weaknesses and stuff. So instead of hunting he became more of an informant
"Harold Black’s Journal, a collection of anatomical sketches, scientific observations and psychological evaluations, constitute most of what the AHA know about their enemy. Black received little success until later in life, when a chance assignment sent it spiraling down a different path. His hodgepodge education, acquired on many walks of life, gave him the unique ability to see connections no one else could, and see reason where others only saw madness."
thank you @wintry panther
I gotchu! Lemme know if you have any other questions. Just @ me
if you are looking for a good beginners guide to lore check the pinned tab for the reddit link
Yup! That would be Harold Black. The man mainly recognized for his Assassin documentation. He became the main contributor to what is known in the hunt-verse as a guide to all monsters
@wintry panther No, he is not the researcher who's notes are above every monster entry (preeeeetty sure that researcher is of modern-day-times). The researcher even writes ABOUT Black above the Assassin entries (and on other occasions as well) and referrs to him as a source of information.
Afaik it's not clear either, if the Assassin "became a monster", or if he always was.
@obsidian owl No. The legendary "researcher"-skin is Harold Black, but Harold Black is not "the researcher" from the Book of monsters. Harold Black is mentioned in many of the Book-of-monsters entries though and is even the main source on the Assassin.
Black was the researcher who was among the first to document the monsters and did it the best, the modern day researcher is the one who presumably uncovered all of this and organised it more neatly, also including other sources
So the researcher skin is Harold, and the Researcher mentioned in the guide is unknown and is looking at the Louisiana Case some time in the future. Got it, thanks
Yeah sorry for the confusion. I thought you were talking about the researcher skin
have we made any headway on who "the researcher" is? or is it still just an option between the candidates?
been a while.
Afaik it's not clear either, if the Assassin "became a monster", or if he always was.
@jagged tide
unfortunate this question hasnt been answered yet. we know vincent had abilities before he was discovered as the assasin (right after he killed Samson)
one theory that i've had is that there are "agents" in our world that have a physical form as a human but wield otherworldly powers that allow them to sabotage any counter attacks against the higher entities. this is corrobrated by the scrap of paper hinting towards the "Axeman" as a similar being to the assassin and Lynch in that they all appear to be capable of otherworldly things while also appearing human
So we are not specifically fighting demons, just some bad entities
@forest condor lynch wasnt capable of otherworldly things. Just rituals, thats why she was so possessive of laveau, because laveau is the damned queen of voodoo. Maybe even more powerful than john
@rugged lodge the concept of demons and ghost originates from Loa
Does anyone have a YouTube playlist that'll explain some of the lore? Or a reccomended channel? :)
@forest condor Axeman? Where can I find that one?
@sinful trout Yes. There have been several theories concerning Vincent: He was a human with supernatural abilitys who got into the bayou and changed by the sculptor; a human that made a deal with the sculptor, this gave him superpowers in exchange for serving the sculptor; an outerworldly being like Lynch, but an ally of the sculptor. Did I miss smthg?
@rugged lodge Its actually very unclear. Iirc the question, if what the hunters are fighting is "literal hell" or only smthg interpretated as "hell", was answered with "both" by the devs. Even though it seems certain, that most of the supernatural beings involved do NOT come from a RL "lore" like religion or mythology. BUT everybody interprets the beings with his own world-view: The christians call the possessing beings "demons" or "angels", the Voodoo-practioners call the outerworldly beings "loa", the muslimic hunters (sinners) talk about "djinns", etc. (and since most of our sources on the matter are written from the point of fiew of ingame-characters, we only have these subjective interpretations - hardly any objective information from the devs). To make things worse, the outerworldly beings are NOT homogenous, but are divided into several factions that fight each other: There is Lynch, the "Lord of the dead", the snake and ofc the "sculptor". The faction of the sculptor seems atm to be responsible for the louisiana-incident and the one creating all the beings we are fighting in the game. The exact form of the sculptor is not clear, there have been several theories: A being (loa) without a body from an immateriel universe; a being possessing somebody (my theory is: possessing the body of a boy, Thommy Frank to be specific); that its not one but several beings, etc. Currently there have been some hints pointing towards the RL-legend of Lionora and the Hopi-legend concerning the destruction of Palatkwapi (2 boys drowning, their supernatural parent searching for them). Another thing we know for certain is, that the louisiana-incident isnt the first of its kind, only the worst so far. We also know, that the supernatural beings are not from this world - they come through portals from another world (the clues are instable portals afaik - but there are stable portals as well). And there have been people crossing from our world into theirs as well.
The louvent wasnt the worst iirc, it was just 'special' in some way
Also whos Tommy Frank?
Also whos Tommy Frank?
@amber harbor I just wanted to answer , but when I checked above where I first wrote down my theory on the sculptor's human identity (07.05.2020), I saw you alrdy reacted to it... you trolling me? ^^
@fallen quarry No. its not coherent enough to be explained. Nor substantial
:( damnit.
@jagged tide It IS hell it just wont conform to the concept
It's a very ingesting setting and I love it, hopefully they do something with it soon :)
@fallen quarry just look in the pinned comments of this channel and youll find all of our base material
Oh hell yeah! Thanks I only got the game yesterday :)
@fallen quarry Afaik they said they wanna do some more expanding on the lore, but so far very little of it is found in the actual game.
Well still technically today but ygm
Welcome aboard ^^
Thank you! :)
I've always had my eye on. It, but the poor reviews turned me away, thank. Skill up and a sale for me being here 😂

@junior pecan Didnt say say every hunter goes to hell after his death? And that Quickplay is actually those lost soul's last chance.
It's 1am I'm a bit tired sorry for the poor texting
Some people are very negative over the game for some reason. Never got why. I have been playing it since patch 0.6, and with every patch people said "the game is dead now". It isnt, but its sad to hear those people actually scared of some new players 😦
Be warned so: It has a steep learning-curve. The first games might be frustrating 😄
And later games as well 😄
But its my favorite game for quite some time now, even so I am still rly bad at it.
Well, i heard something similar to the game is hella unpopular and the servers where going to get shut down or something a while ago. And I didn't want to invest in something that's dead out of the water
But hey I'm glad to be here anyways!
weird
And no I've had a good experience I haven't lost a single game yet 😂 and I've just been experiencing it with my gf for the first time together
It's been fun
Already rank 30 or something
😄 ok, glad to hear that ^^
The community is so nice here I was told you lads where gonna be nasty as hell, especially towards new players.
Just the vibe I got from the style of game and most of the reviews, even the positive ones
Oh! There ARE nasty people! But there are in every game in my experience. The community in total isnt worse then others though.
Except for the people saying the game is dead all the time ofc.
@fallen quarry who had been telling you all these things
Yeah that's to be expected especially from a heavily competitive game like hunt, but over all. I've had good experiences on the reddit discord and even ingame!
glad to hear that
@random lava in relation to the servers being shut down or going to be, it was floating around everywhere on the Internet. I think a few channels covered it though I don't remember witch ones.
Misinformation is not fun alot of the time tbh
There has never been any indication of that happening so that's just weird to hear
It's the first I hear of people having said that
Hmm no clue
It's easy to spread rumors tho so it's no biggie. Was just curious 😄
It was older, 3 or so months post release.
Mby some company fearing competition... who knows.
Ea release or 1.0 release
Yeah, idk I've heard alot of seeming misinformation about the game but I've been enjoying it so far,
No clue
I was only lightly keeping up
I think ea?
It's sad that stuff like that can keep people away
Glad you and your gf are enjoying the game so far
I mean the game seems extremely undervalued from what I've seen and heard from the fans so far!
Thank you, it's been really good. I'm glad to be here most definitely
If you have any questions you can always ask those in #hunt-general or #350201608296202251 and #game-questions
Lore wise you're in the right place here
I'll be sure to check it out, the lore in general seems really cool, I'd love for like a fan made short or something its definitely interesting from what I've seen so far. Witch isn't much
@jagged tide thanks for the explanations, this seems very lovecraftian but cool
Lovecraftian indeed ^^ your welcome
@junior pecan in the end of the twins' story lynch began to turn into something otherworldly
@jagged tide there was an excerpt from a dev that quoted a new Orleans axe murderer that was never caught
It led me to believe that they're trying to tie stuff into the real world and that it's a hint 6that there are a bunch of "agents"
@forest condor the limb she grew was no different than one of the twins surrogate legs, the material resembles the armored, its probably a biological structure familiar to the loa considering its prevalence
And because of its familiarity, usable in ritual practice
@forest condor Interesting. Hmmm. Is this the Axe-murderer from "American-Horror-Story:Coven"? That story plays in New Orleans and Voodoo takes a part in it as well.
Ah, no. That one was active 1918-1919
Youre refferring to the axeman quote one of the devs was working on a while ago yeah? @jagged tide
Far as i know it hasnt gone anywhere
If you can pull anything let us know
@fallen quarry good to have you on board
Thanks
@sinful trout Well, that Quote is definetly from the Axeman of New Orleans. Thx.
No problem, check hardcore pinned screencaps as well when you get the chance
I dont know where to ask this question, but why some weapons dont have their real life version name like the sparks and dolch?
@rugged lodge I believe that’s because of some licensing issues
I thought so, but wanted to make sure because some weapons have their accurate names
Some weapons licensing expired so they can use them but unfortunately most havent
They try their best to keeo it real though, the winfield (winchester) entries include the real guys name just in the wrong order
@sinful trout I was saying that it sounds like they're trying to bring in the idea of single agents in our world helping those from the other world
and the axeman is a real life example of someone from the area who was able to kill without being found
I think I’ve agreed with you in the past on that theory, Arpy, but I think it bears repeating on that topic.
The Axeman actively mocked law enforcement in his letters, writing that he was from “hell.” Given that previous Q&As, as well as lore, imply we’re dealing with another dimension that some could perceive as hell- it’s not a far cry. The assassin chuckles and mocks hunters as they fight, and though we know little of Vincent, his actions and later transformation fit the bill for a lone agent sent to sow chaos.
So youre under the impression some of those are afflicted with sculptors influence but do not undergo a change, instead they can transform at will?
It could make sense. In Harold Black's entries on the Assassin, he mentions how the man he chases down after the hanging of a criminal kicks up dirt (and throws a beetle on his face) and climbs up a "shear wall." Obviously, this is a misspelling, meant for sheer, which is perpendicular. It's a straight wall, how does a human climb that? Many ways, but for the sake of theory, let's imagine that it shouldn't be possible.
It's obvious that the man is the Assassin, with another piece of evidence being the long and slender blade that the man throws at Black whilst hanging off of the wall.
So, the transformation aspect doesn't seem entirely out of the blue.
to be fair, he could have been a top noch assassin without or with little of the sculptors help
he was a parkour god and had his throwing knives equipped, ezio style
and his abilities led to him being selected into the sculptors army
he could also have asked for aid from one of the supernatural beings
also apparently a shear wall is a thing, it is supposed to be a more sturdy wall
vincent is definately the same man from the alley, no doubt. otherwise wed have more retconned lore which would be another nightmare
Afaik in a later entry it is noted, that Vincent even multiplied. So if hes no ninja, that clearly falls even out of the realm of top notch assassins 😉
I remember some qna where somebody asked the devs if there was somebody (or something else) on the sculptor’s side, and they said yes. So since the assassin is one of the bosses and he seems to have gotten his supernatural abilities well before the Louvent I believe that he might be one of those allies (although it’s unclear whether he got his powers form the sculptor or some other entity)
Or Vincent died in the bayou and the sculptor is reusing his form, like he did with other useful "originals" that he copied over and over again. Do we have a connection between the Governour VIncent assassinated and the Louvent? If there was a connection, we could say for sure, that Vincent worked for the culptor even before he came to the bayou as a "boss".
@jagged tide same entry, harold noted he saw double visions of the man heading down different alleys
we never looked into the governour. worth a peek in any case.
if im correct, the soul is the same, the body is just remade. thats what they said when it all got changed anyway.
the only reason we got a straight answer that time was because we had worked towards the lore being one thing, then it had flipped completely so to keep us on track ish they gave us info (thank god) otherwise wed be back to playing in the mud
speaking of which
@junior pecan
ive been dormant, not dead, ive been watching, you mentioned a community event some time ago
share?
tbh I am still not sure if we all havent put more thoughts into the lore then the devs themselves... I mean, there are a lot of easter-eggs on the maps, but very few lore-related stuff. The lore is either VERY well thought through and we just still havent figured out even the corner-stones of it - or they just pretend it to be made beforehand and just make it up on the spot everytime a new entry is needed in the libary 😄
for most cases its known fact its the latter.
no offense to the devs, they do good work
but the lore changes and qnas point to most of it being made up quickly on the spot
"was there ever community based suggestions that shifted the direction you were going with writing?"
"yeah, we released a blog post about the trials of dr reed and the community loved it, they were so fascinated on his story they started basing theories off it so we took a few more steps in his direction."
paraphrased
Iirc he had the idea of some Voodoo-stuff going on. Like people meeting and working together in the name of a Voodoo-cult. Clearing compounds without going for bosses or PvP and stuff like that. I like the idea. But how to organize smthg like this AND get enough people to join?
okay
im not sure how active the lore community is anymore. directly after the ama there was an influx of people
but if we have the numbers, itd be possible
Well, I would love to participate. From time to time I play solo and search the maps for easter-eggs & lore-related stuff (even so I mostly found the former).
theres still many clues left behind we havent noticed. i believe i pointed out a non spawn point and a boat that had been docked on the edge of the map, insinuating other orginizations that arent connected to AHA joining the hunt, possibly even sculptor allies.
was confirmed at the time
mm, do not touch on the ducks
ive had away with that chapter
hush now
kk
thats far enough
@burnt orchid do you remember how long we were derailed because of that?
I'm new to the game so all this is blah to me, but it seems like a very in depth lore and I am definitely getting into it.
im glad
check the pinned posts when you get the chance
anything over a year ago may well be useless, it depends on its context however
I did notice a random boat with a male and female at the tip in the same "position" as in Titanic on the map where Godard docks is at the very top left and I thought it was hilarious..
mm fortunately it was obviously an easter egg, otherwise it may have led us into chaos
speaking of which
dont forget
the easter egg for the delorean
IS technically canon
Another idea for an event might be a researcher-event: Building groups of researchers that search every compound on the map for clues on the lore. Pvp & bosses are to be avoided, other players should be spoken to in a rpg-way to try and pacify them ("we dont want to interfere with you work. We are here on behalf of the AHA to research the phenomena in this area. Get along peacfully or we will open fire."). equipping of cope & lamp would be mandatory. But I guess... this is the internet, so there shouldnt be much stuff left nobody has postet on youtube or reddit yet 😦
IS technically canon
@sinful trout wait what?
nope
thats as far as it goes
alternate universe
marty and doc go back to 1895,
whoops we stumbled into an eldritch pandemic, were fucked.jpg
end
Ok, I get the picture 😄 Did smbdy find their bodies? In the town-hall/school is a board with the b2tf-timelines and "e=mcc". And some weird things clearly happened there. The sculptor getting his hands on time-travel would have been a bit scary 😄
would be, unfortunately devs confirmed time travel is not a part of the lore
not to mention they would need to wait and maintain the car in working condition until 1911 when the proper gasoline was created.
not to mention, plutonium was discovered in 1940
yeah, but the theory of the flux-compensator is in doc's brain. He managed to build one that runs on steam "later" ... 😉 Oh boy, here My brain gets distracted again ^^
Does the AHA have any opinion or standing on hunters going after each other? Do they condone it, or otherwise?
@molten forge they dont really care. As long as they get the bounty in the end, alls fair game from their perspective
They more of put up the wanted posters, they dont send teams themselves
Although iirc some hunters spoke about this being an open hunt, so there might have been more organised excursions on their part
Interesting. since there are some hunters on wanted posters (mainly Twitch Streamers iirc) so I wasn't sure if that was canon.
there is just one
He was first to reach prestige 100
And by wanted posters I meant the bounty contracts for the bosses
That was misinformation on my part
@sinful trout digitus domini deus would be a player operated group RPing in game as a Catholic faction directly opposed to the act of banishment. Believing it to be beneficial to the sculptor and claiming to be in contact with Baron Saturday, a Christian Loa (bizarre concept but it’s a legit Loa irl). The actual existence of said Loa would be called into question, as there is no way to know if it is made up, or even if it is sculptor in disguise
Allows community to do something new, other than the monotonous pattern of regular hunting, and directly engages those not participating or unaware of the event
Also allows the creation of community made lore pieces that technically HAVE to be canon, as long as they pertain to the faction itself
If its written from the perspective of a player run faction, then it only makes sense for a player to write it. And just as in the real lore pieces we have, the writer could easily be lying or mistaken
The idea of a player operated faction to be part of lore if it is fitting enough sounds quite appealing to me. Fancanon when not too excessive is great.
Thats the idea, a bunch of skeptical religious fanatics are already hella sketch, but still have some legitimacy
We should have some sort of recognisable traits, like a certain skin/weapon combo
Was thinking only use whiteshirts
Maybe something else
The behavior itself is supposed to be the defining feature
Theyre clearly not campers when theyre out to get you so they can leave
Wasnt the idea to make sure noone banishes?
id be so happy if people started banding with factions. this christian faction would try to prevent banishments just kill the boss, only hunting the hunters. some vodun ones would work on just getting the bounty and get out, maybe a sculptor faction where they prevent harm to the boss at all costs
So, why wait? Lets start it right now. What would it need? Some basic rules (outfit- & weapon restrictions; new ingame-goal; what is forbidden to do ingame), some fluff-text (enough so that the concept can be communicated over VOIP to not-participating players without breaking character), some communication (maybe an own discord-channel for teamfinding and changing obejctives), and most importantly: members. I would like to participate, no matter the background, so I dont care what fraction to build first. Since Prowler had his idea worked out, why not roll with his one? I got time to play today...
So what was the idea... Baron Samedi & Catholic. Whiteshirts (even so there are some T3-hunters with elements of typical Baron Samedi-Houngan outfit... and the Priest skin might work well with the catholic background...). Any restriction on weapons? Maybe many fire related consumables & tools (burning the unholy creature instead of banishing it)? The new goal is to kill bosses but not banish them. If banishing cant be prevented - then what? let them go or prevent the bounty from being extracted? What the basic MO towards other players? Kill them on sight? Try to persuade them to leave the dead bosses be? Try to convert them?
@junior pecan
Ok, I see the problem...
i appreciate the enthousiasm but it's not hunt lore
@jagged tide If we want to try this id like to devise a reddit post and link it here on the discord. Should detail the alternative objective of preventing banishment first and foremost. We should put a 30 minute timer on it though “Disciples exposed to the area for durations greater than 1/2 of an hour are of questionable health and should not report back to any church officials or contact affiliates”
It would be better to let the participants devise their own methods of identification. Create interesting moments of distrust and deceit
Lastly id like to write the document on paper, with scribbles from a hunter in opposition to Digitus Domini Deus, casting doubt on the faction’s intentions and being a lead in to the lore
Player created lore, i should specify
I'd be interested too @junior pecan @jagged tide
So, why wait? Lets start it right now. What would it need? @jagged tide
I've been working on a little description of a particular hunter team loadout. It could be considered part meme but with proper explanation behind it could work as a proper fan faction.
Sign me up and am happy to help however I can. I wonder if the mods here would make us a channel or if we need a separate server.
A channel for character sheets might be cool. I'd like to keep the same character (even if their skin changes on death.)
It would also be cool to establish the lore for the group.
So far I've got only a general description (I'm not much of a writer), but essentially it's about a very specific band of hunters that have taken a liking to preferring explosive weaponry such as Crossbow Explosive. Almost like an artillery squad.
I noticed in the lore a lot of hunters go into the bayou in pairs or solo and it seemed to always be like that. So when did people start going in as trios? And are the accounts of larger groups going in to take down a bounty?
- Accounts of larger groups are questionable but do exist prior to the death of PHJ. Info on trios can be found in the springfield documents which i do not have access to as it cant be found in varuun’s master copy
@fiery forge This had smthg to do with the rituals and believs of the AHA (which we know very little about). It is not clear, if teams of 3 or more were avoided because of superstition or if because it had some serious consequences, but the Hunters in the lore avoided it - 2 are ofc better then 1 hunter. So teams of 2 have always been the norm (in the lore, but the game was as well designed to be played this way). In the lore 3 brother kinda broke that rule (Springfiled in book of weapons). First they only hunted together as 3. They believed to have a solution on this (knowledge about some dark rituals, but again: not clear if they rly had magic-powers or if it was just superstition). At some point 2 of them killed the 3rd brother in a ritual. They continued to hunt in teams of 3, but the 3rd member of the team ALWAYS died (the brothers took care of that). From then on, everybody could hunt as 3, since the price was payed by those brothers (rly? or did they just believe it?). The mountain man-skin was involved in this and helped the brothers, he tells the story in the Springfield entries.
Whats some newer reveals?
Also, do we know if there have been any outbreaks of sculptor creatures in modern times?
Sculptor creatures? I don't exactly know what those are
Ahh and yeah.
@jolly karma you mean AI or Sculptor? Different things from our perspective, technically the same though (theoretically)
@junior pecan Zombies, meatheads, the bosses
No, dead when sculptor got booted out of our reality. But zombies and maaaybe armoreds could exist in future events. Zombies are a common utility of the Loa, and I suspect the material that separates an armored from a grunt is native biochemistry in the Loa realm, and thusly could be used in future events. If the armored’s third limb becomes canon though then im unsure,
That might wreck mirror theory and in turn reveal ludo-narrative issues. If sculptor is capable of modifying the organisms then why would he leave them so incapable. Armoreds are lightweight and fast as hell, just slap that material on a pack of dogs and youre done
That and a helmet to stop piercing attacks
Mirror theory? Loa?
Loa is the colloquial term for beings similar to sculptor. It is the Haitian Voodoo version of a god.
Mirror theory is currently the only explanation for Loa behavior, but its complicated.
There could exist Immolaters as well. Afaik the first Immolater didnt come from the sculptor.
We as well have the story of a person turning into an Armored, even after the sculptor alrdy created Armoreds. btw: are we sure that all monsters in the bayou are "clones"? Is the only source for this Ada's comment, saying that all the hives carry her mothers face? Because that could be just an expression of her feelings: since her mother turned into a hive she sees all the hives as her mother.
Ada’s comment, the fact that theres so many even after a military battalion rolled through the bayou to clean it up, and the fact that mobs use the same models over and over again. There are not that many itallian mastiffs in Louisiana
And immolator was sculptor in part. Sculptor’s influence acts like a spiritual mutagen, depending on characteristics of the soul, rather than the body, the individual transforms into something new
Sorry to change the topic, but is there a lore reason as to why hunters are taught to burn the bodies of other hunters? It says in the Nagant M1895 Officer's 1st mastery entry that Lynch had taught someone why to burn bodies, but I couldn't find the reason anywhere. (@ me if you know please).
@hollow osprey I guess because things in the bayou tend to come back to life. Check Chambers 3rd letter (Nagant precision), Black's first entry on the Armored, the entries on Grunts & the Butcher, etc.
Fair
@hollow osprey reviving is canon, cant revive a body if you destroy enough of it
Has to do with creating supplemental limbs using biological material from the loa realm, the same stuff armoreds are made of, (all theory though)
Ahhh okay.
Is there a google drive dedicated to archiving all the lore? I know there are documents posted around this channel but it'd be nice if all of it was in one place for the people who don't know a whole lot about the lore.
If you go to the wiki each weapon has their pages posted. Other than that in pinned messages there is a pdf of the book of monster and weapons but it is missing a few weapon variants and stuff that are more recent (sorry I haven’t been updating it but will do that this week)
I have also organized bad as they seem into a chronological book so it’s easier to read instead of the broken up bits scattered around the lore
@fiery forge
@wintry panther Thanks! I'll look into that

Guys, I have a question
What is btw. the main motivator lore wise for the Hunters to go into the Bayou?
Is it Money? Are they motivated by a feeling of vengeance?
Depends on each hunter
Some are motivated by the allure of wealth and power
Some are religiously driven
And others are trying to stop this from going rampant outside the bayou
@wintry panther the event cant escape its bounds, rift is isolated.
You sure about that?
@jagged tide no one is sure about anything. Why would it not have, whats to stop the water devils?
So whats you "indication" of them not being able to leave? So far we heard, that the creatures seem to serve specific purposes (even so we dont know what exactly, except for the personal opinions of the researching hunters), which would explain why they CURRENTLY dont leave... and Black brought at least once some creatures with him to New Orleans (parts of an armored that turned out to contain living maggot-like creatures - he had to burn the house).
Lack of influence on the outside world. Why only louisiana. Why has expansion been halted, the hunters dont contain the threat they attack precisely as a sort of cowboy special forces whatnot. Either they cant leave, or sculptor doesnt want them to. Either way the threat cannot expand as we can see it has had no success despite a lack of obstacles.
Why do the dead only rise in the bayou, because, possession is limited to the region surrounding the rift
Unless its developing something, which sounds like an awful idea considering the current state of affairs. Anything sculptor creates will be eradicated by AHA partisans free to roam its area of operations
Well, there are several places, where the sculptor seems to build smthg and maybe hes waiting for it to be completed - the hunters keep buying time with the killing of bosses, even so the enemy dosent seize to exist his plans would be stalled. And, if your mirror-theory would be correct, the Sculptor wouldnt HAVE to leave the Bayou, as long as the AHA keeps sending hunters... So the AHA would keep the scultpor in the Bayou by giving him what he wants. The Assassin killed an politician in Nicaragua. This might have been before Vincent fell under the influence of the sculptor, but that stays a big "if". Another point could be, that the Sculptor is conmstantly producing new enemies and the hunters constantly kill them - thereby keeping the danger in check and keeping it from growing in numbers AND growing in territory (Iirc Chambers was writing about Hardins group having people assigned to stop all monsters that try to leave the Bayou and enter New-Orleans). You could be right and the Louvent is isolated, but it dosent feel like that to me...
I have a question: Does anybody else have the impression that the Bayou is getting more & more "tainted"? Like the "easter-egg" with the guy in the tree: At first he was barely recognizable. Now you can clearly see a guy trapped in the tree. And lots of others like him (most of them in Arden Parish). It also seems to me, like the wasp-nest-like material (central building in Aden Parish, all sacral buildings, etc) is increasing in amount and in the number of compounds affected by it... or is this just my impression?
@jagged tide again, development isnt tactically viable due to the hunter’s presence. Good god do you know how much dynamite they probably have access to through preexisting channels of commerce? Anything he builds they can detonate at a moments notice if even ONE of the factions gets suspicious of whatever icon of sin type threat hes making.
Unless it can be made in the short span of time between hunts
Hardin is trying to cull the threat, but the fact that said group is willing to let the hunts continue in face of the greater threat means that its either not that likely to expand and Hardin has it under control, or he doesnt know what hes doing
Youve brought up a good point actually. I think the nest material is present in every religious building in the game. Could be absorbing spiritual energy, whether for profit or to develop something im not sure
Yes, noticed that before, but never compared all the compounds in detail so far, so I am not sure... maybe I will go for few more exploration-rounds soon. Spontanous I d say the material is mostly present in every sacral building (Churches, Chapel, tombs), at the docks (birthplace of the spider?) and at Arden parish (strongest concentration afaik; mostly in the area of the backside of the townhall and the nearby river). Other places have that stuff aswell, but not in the same quantity.
@jagged tide what "easter eggs" are you referring to? Can you post screenshots of the guy trapped in the tree and "corruption" ?
If I know what to look for I can keep an eye out
Hunting tower at the spawn of C&A lumber. Garage of Arden Parish boss room. Sunken house in Arden Parish river. Boss lairs of all religious compounds. Basement of Godard docks on the west side.
@junior pecan Might be worth investigating Slaughterhouse for it too perhaps? Since iirc it was where the butcher was put together
Also Windy Run gets a Pig head hanging on its sign when the Butcher spawns there. Is there anything possibly behind that or just an easter egg?
Easter egg. Slaughterhouse might have a few in the pit but none other than that
Have a question: how did the monsters come to this world?
Also theres a loadof chitin in one of forts walls, with hanging cages and such, which seem kinda out of place to me
@hearty tulip they came through a rift between dimensions, although the term come is improper. They didn't physically go through, the sculptor came in as a sort of ghost and started possessing stuff to make his own army
Have the monsters fought like spider vs assassin
@steady bronze wdym?
If you're referring to WWE style vs matches, no. They are part of the same side
I'm currently going on a lore hunt in-game
If you're referring to WWE style vs matches, no. They are part of the same side
@amber harbor I'm not sure if you can consider all of them on the same side, the Immolator wildly attacks anything
only if provoked, and its a single enemy
but to be fair, we never heard of interactions between bosses, so all's fair game in that regard
there are supposed to be more of those enemies, like the water devil is supposed to attack everything, but in practice it doesnt seem to work
at least I havent seen such things
Blanc brinery. Where the bob ross easter egg is.
Thats how he looked in the past. Now you can clearly see his face and even cloth
Close to Cyprus huts
eastern in the forest
With corruption I mean the chitin
(thx Kebab, forgot the word 🙂 )
I got most ingame stuff that I consider either easter-egg or lore-related saved as screenshots, but tbh I dont know how to upload it on discord 😅
this is how he looks now: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2113508182
see the difference?
And imho alot of places have changed like that over time. Small, subtle changes
Here a few examples for what I mean, when I talk about "corruption":
@molten forge Immolater has a unique origin-story. Iirc a cornered priest cast some spell upon himself to punish his tormentors. We dont know if the Sculptor was involved in this at all. But then the question arises, where all the other Immolaters come from. Just copies made by the sculptor? They are by far to many, to not be related to the Louvent in any way. The Immolater seems to be a manifestion of Spontaneous human combustion https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spontaneous_human_combustion - a phenomenon, not neccessarily linked to the scultpor and/or the Louvent in the Huntverse. Once again, we know to little about the lore (or if there even exists a secret but canonical explanation) to answer your question 🙂 We know from the lore entries in the books, that not all supernatural beings in the Bayou fight on the same side (Lynch and the Snake are actors who fight the Sculptor) and it MIGHT be possible, that one or several of the bosses are indeed NOT pawns of the scultpor but of his adversaries... but since we can neither talk to them nor put them together in the same room - there is currently no way to know for sure. It SEEMS very unlikely so, since the sculptor is always named to be the main force behind the louvent and the minor creatures of the sculptor (Armoreds, Hives, etc) seem to protect (or atleast coexist with) the bosses, not search&destroy them.
Spontaneous human combustion (SHC) is the concept of the combustion of a living (or recently deceased) human body without an apparent external source of ignition. In addition to reported cases, descriptions of the alleged phenomenon appear in literature, and both types have be...
@jagged tide If that is the case then it might be possible that there are other higher powers at play too rather than just the Sculptor. Since it is likely that a cornered priest rather than casting a spell would call upon a higher power. If the immolator is there to theoretically fight the corruption on behalf of said higher power it also makes sense that it attacks hunters. After all Hunters have become corrupted as well.
This could mean that in theory there could be another Loa at play opposed to the Sculptor, or perhaps a whole different origin of higher power. As fire is all consuming and cleaning and seemingly effective against most of the Sculptor's creations it wouldn't be too absurd of a theory.
The fact that there is more than one Immolator could very well suggest that.
yes, it was infact more of a prayer then a spell. Might be. But currently, most Immolators dont fight other monsters... Hmm. The Butcher uses fire as well...
