it probably won't help because updating iOS via iTunes already restores rootfs automatically, but apps will detect leftover jailbreak files in the user data partition (/var), which cannot be restored easily without losing data

hmm, damn. makes sense. If I were to make an icloud backup on the user’s device, complete restore it through itunes and then use that backup, it wouldn’t retain any of the leftover files from the jailbreak, correct?

iCloud still includes /var because it's the user data partition, so the only options are:

• start fresh
• use an older backup
• make an iTunes backup to try to figure out which files to delete with iMazing or iPhone Backup Extractor

the problem is some jailbreak files are placed in the rootfs (which is easily restored), but others are placed in /var, where it's mixed with user data so the whole volume can't simply be snapshotted and restored to an earlier state

Just got my new iPhone 12 on 14.2
I wanted to restore from my old iPhone 8+

I restored rootFS with odyssey twice on the 8+. Erased all content and backed it up

I restored my iPhone 12 from that backup and now it's stuck on the flashing apple logo on start up

Is there a way available to not update, but still restore? 3rd party applications?
