Sideloadly errors 1100 and -29004

If you're experiencing; "Failed: (1100) Your session has expired. Please log in." or "Login failed (-29004): This action could not be completed due to possible environment mismatch." then please attempt the fix below. (This fix is only for Windows)

Close iTunes if it's opened or kill it from Task Manager.

Open Start > Run (Or press Windows Key + R) > type in %ProgramData% and hit enter.

Next, navigate inside Apple Computer > iTunes. The complete path will be: C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\iTunes

Now you can safely rename the "adi" folder to "adi.bak" or just delete it.

Open Sideloadly and then try sideloading an IPA and you will be asked for your Apple ID password again.

Alert on beta iOS versions

If you stay on an old iOS beta version (RC not included) for too long, after a few weeks you'll start seeing an alert like this every time you unlock your device or swipe away the notification center.

If you're jailbroken, you can use NoBetaAlert to disable it. Otherwise, the only way is to set your date back (which may break many apps and websites) or update.

Timed out waiting for download mode with palera1n

If the device is stuck on the Apple logo or black screen

  • Unplug and replug the device. This usually solves the issue.
  • If it doesn’t work, reboot and rejailbreak, and unplug/replug as soon as the Apple logo appears after “DFU mode device disconnected”.

If the device booted up to normal mode

  • Try jailbreaking again and make sure you enter DFU correctly. Entering DFU straight from normal mode is known to cause issues, at least on A11 devices. You should enter recovery mode first and let palera1n guide you to enter DFU.
  • Make sure you have removed legacy palera1n (palera1n.sh) as palera1n-c does not support creating or booting a tethered setup.
  • Try exiting recovery mode using palera1n -n.
  • If it’s still recovery looping and you can’t exit, your SSV seal is most likely broken. Use the apfs-reseal script to fix it. (This script currently only works fully automatically on macOS).
  • As a last resort, try updating in iTunes/Finder, and if that doesn’t fix it, restore.

Other things to check

  • Use a USB-A cable, not USB-C (if you have an Apple Silicon Mac, you may need a USB hub rather than a single-cable adapter).
  • Use a computer with an Intel or Apple Silicon CPU, as AMD has issues.

Poor success rate while attempting to jailbreak with Chimera

Chimera's success rate is poor and can take multiple attempts to successfully jailbreak, especially on older devices.

Chimera's success rate can be greatly improved on some devices by injecting the chimera_patch dylib. The easiest way to accomplish this is by using a pre-patched .ipa, hosted by https://jailbreaks.app. You can either visit the website to install Chimera without a computer (provided the website is currently signed or not revoked), or download the .ipa file to sideload using a computer.

Additionally, note that once you have jailbroken with the Chimera app at least once, you will be able to re-jailbreak via the TotallyNotSpyware-v2 website. This has a far higher success rate than even the patched Chimera app, and additionally comes with the benefit of not needing to keep the Chimera app resigned every 7 days.

Please note that, while chimera_patch is open source, it does modify the .ipa and thus can be considered an unofficial patch. If you are not comfortable with doing this, you may follow the steps listed below.

Tips to increase success rate

  • Update to the latest Chimera version (ideally 1.6.5 or later)
  • Make sure the device is charged above 20%
  • Reboot after a failed attempt
  • Wait 60 seconds before jailbreaking after a reboot/failed attempt
  • Turn low power mode off
  • Put your device in front of an air conditioner or fan

AppStore not working when jailbroken

Download NewTerm 3 and open it

checkra1n/palera1n "heuristic strategy failed"

If you’re on AMD/Ryzen, you may be encountering a few issues when using checkra1n or palera1n. This can vary between freezes and straight up crashes. It’s because of AMD’s weird onboard USB controllers that cause it not to work that well with checkra1n’s/palera1n's exploit. If you’re lucky you can actually successfully manage to jailbreak using checkra1n/palera1n.

Tips to increase successrate:

  • Plug your device into your computer's motherboard.
  • Use a genuine Apple USB-A to lighting cable.

If you’re stuck on the Apple logo please force reboot yourself (see: /tag reboot).

If these don’t work, try to get your hands on another computer (preferably intel), and try to use checkra1n/palera1n again. You can also purchase any PCIE USB card, such as the Inateck 2 Port PCIE USB 3.0 Card (this one is confirmed working, but any USB PCIE card with its own integrated controller should work.) and plug it into the card to fix it.

Fixing Futurerestore error codes 3, 8, and 10
  1. Make sure your device is plugged into your pc and your device is in recovery mode.
  2. Open device manager
  3. Go to uninstall Apple Recovery (iBoot) USB Composite Device but check the "Delete the driver software for this device." Checkbox
    It should look like this:

  4. Run futurerestore again, it should work.
  5. Profit!

Skip BPR for A11

What does "Skip BPR checks for A11" mean on checkra1n 0.12?

Due to Apple changing the way the device boots, A11 devices won't be able to use the SEP (Secure Enclave Processor) functionality if you want to jailbreak iOS 14.

What does the SEP do (according to Apple)?

An example of some built-in services that utilize the hardware protected Secure Key:

  • Unlock of device or account (Password & Biometric)
  • Hardware Encryption / Data Protection / FileVault (Data-at-Rest)
  • Secure Boot (Firmware and OS Trust and Integrity)
  • Hardware control of camera (FaceTime)

What can't you do?

  • Enabling or disabling Touch ID or Face ID while jailbroken.
  • Use Apple Pay, Apple Card and similar services.
  • Use FaceID or TouchID for any app that may require it.
  • Adding or removing a Touch ID fingerprint or Face ID face.

Please remember to disable your passcode before attempting to jailbreak

How to update a jailbroken device

Note: your tweaks will be removed when the jailbreak is removed, save a list if you want to reinstall them after. Do not use tweaks like Batchomatic or IAmLazy, as these are known to cause issues.

  1. Enable OTA updates since they are usually disabled. For rootless you can get the deb file from here and for rootful you can get the deb file from here. If you already have OTA updates enabled, then you can skip this step.

  2. Remove your jailbreak. This varies from jailbreaks, so see the rootfs tag for modern jailbreaks or the legacyrootfs tag for legacy jailbreaks. (iOS 14+ only) If you would like to make sure that all remnants are gone, which is recommended, you can try using VarClean with TrollStore. iOS 15+ should install VarClean15 from https://github.com/bradleytechman/RootHideManagerApp/releases/ and iOS 14 should install VarClean14, also from there.

  3. Remove TrollStore if it's installed. Open TrollStore, go to settings, and press "Uninstall TrollStore" at the bottom, and "Remove Apps"

  4. Go to settings and update!

Checkra1n replug method

If you needed to use the unplug and plug method in checkra1n to get it to work, it no longer works in the latest versions of checkra1n. Downgrade to 0.10.1 to get it to work.

Cleaning Photo Cache:

This usually only applies to you if your iCloud storage is full. It may or may not give you a lot of your local storage back.

Issue
iCloud first stores all of your photos and videos into a local directory then dumps it into the cloud. However when your iCloud storage is full, all of your photos (including deleted photos and videos) will be stuck in limbo.

How to fix

  1. Get and open Filza.
  2. Go to /var/mobile/Media/PhotoData/CPL/storage.
  3. Check the size of the folder “filecache” by tapping on the (i) button to the right of it.
  4. If the folder size is big (maybe larger than 5GB, mine was 30GB), open the filecache folder and select all of the folders.
  5. Press the “Trash” button on the bottom of your screen. (Filza may freeze or crash when this happens)
  6. Go to /var/mobile/Library/Filza/.Trash/ or press on the star icon on the bottom of your screen and press “Trash”.
  7. If it is blank, force close and reopen Filza. If all of the folders from within “filecache” are inside of “Trash”, select all of them and press “Delete” on the bottom of your screen. (Filza may freeze or crash when this happens)
  8. If it crashed, reopen Filza and check “Trash” to see if it has been fully deleted all of the folders.
  9. The “Others” section in Settings app (General > iPhone/iPod/iPad Storage > Others) should be smaller in size.

Clearing “Other” Storage:

If you find 'Other' inside your storage is being filled up, you can reduce it significantly by installing a terminal app like NewTerm or logging in via SSH and typing: rm -rf /var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.CacheDeleteAppContainerCaches.deathrow (you may need to su prior)

After that, reboot your device.

Alternatively, you can use Filza and navigate to /var/mobile/Library/Caches/ and delete the com.apple.CacheDeleteAppContainerCaches.deathrow folder. Then empty the Filza Trash.

If you encounter a bootloop (forever Apple logo) with a checkra1n device, you may be able to recover without restoring.

If you're using the CLI, you may type in the following command on bootra1n/checkn1x after logging in:
sudo checkra1n -c -e launchd_missing_exec_no_panic=1

For macOS, open Terminal and type in:
/Applications/checkra1n.app/Contents/MacOS/checkra1n -c -e launchd_missing_exec_no_panic=1

Then place your device in DFU mode.

Alternatively, if you wish to use the GUI, you may also input the following command inside the Options section and (re) jailbreak as usual.

This'll allow you to boot back to the home screen so you can remove any broken, unsupported or dangerous packages that could be causing the issue(s).

If you're having issues with not being able to jailbreak or cant re-jailbreak due to a bad tweak but don't know which it may be follow this:

  1. In unc0ver or chimera open settings and disable tweaks (turn off load tweaks). With checkra1n you have to jailbreak into safe mode via an option from the program on your computer

  2. Once you're jailbroken with tweaks off or in safe mode, download and install iCleaner Pro if you don't have it already from the link below

  3. In iCleaner Pro click the + icon in the lower left side and go to Cydia Substrate Addons

  4. Here you can either disable all tweaks if you have no clue of the problematic tweak. Or simple disable the suspected tweak(s)

  5. Once you've disabled your tweak(s) reboot your device and undo step 1 (meaning to load tweaks again, or jailbreak normally)

  6. At this point all tweaks (or some) should be disabled and you should be back into your normal jailbroken state. You can enable tweaks one by one or however much you see fit at a time

  7. When/if your original issue occurs after enabling a tweak delete it or keep it disabled

If you’re having issues with jailbreak detection even after removing your jailbreak, it’s due to tweaks leaving behind files in /var. To fix either reset your device, or restore to a backup you made before jailbreaking

How to restore an iTunes backup to a lower iOS version

The same steps apply to Finder if you're using macOS Catalina or newer which doesn't have iTunes.

  1. Close iTunes
  2. Open your iTunes backup folder
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
  1. Open the folder that matches your device's UDID (you can find it in iTunes by clicking the serial number)
  2. Open Info.plist with a text editor
  • Windows: Notepad++, Sublime Text, Atom, etc. (NOT Notepad or WordPad)
  • macOS: TextEdit or others
  1. Press Ctrl+F (Windows) or Command+F (macOS) and search for the version you took your backup on (near the end of the file)
  2. Change it to the version you have downgraded to (for example, change 14.4 to 14.3)
  3. Save the file
  4. Open iTunes and try to restore the backup

If you find that iCloud is broken after restoring the backup

  1. Go to Settings -> [Your Name] -> iCloud -> Manage Storage -> Backups -> [Device Name]
  2. Tap "Delete Backup"
  3. Go back to the iCloud page, and then "iCloud Backup"
  4. Turn on "iCloud Backup" and tap "Back Up Now"
  5. Once the backup is complete, go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings
    (Make sure you are NOT jailbroken when you do this. Restore rootfs first if necessary.)
  6. Set your phone up again and restore the newly created iCloud backup

Open an administrator command prompt and type this:

Change D:\iTunes Backups or /Volumes/Data/iTunes Backups to the actual location where you want to store your backups.

Long press the IPA in Filza, tap "Scripts" and then "Resign with ldid", then install the resigned IPA. Make sure to have AppSync Unified installed.

Note that if you are trying to install a jailbreak this way, it won't work. Use AltStore or ReProvision Reborn instead.

If you get an apt/dpkg error, try opening a terminal (e.g. NewTerm or SSH) and typing su root -c 'apt install -f' or su root -c 'dpkg -a --configure'.

Face ID issues after screen replacement

If you plan to get a screen replacement on a jailbroken device, make sure to restore rootfs before the replacement, otherwise restoring rootfs afterwards may break Face ID, and the only way to fix it is to get the screen replaced again.

If you already got your screen replaced while jailbroken, do not restore rootfs. If you must, restore the device from iTunes/Finder, even though you may lose the ability to jailbreak if you do that.

iCloud lock + supervision

If your device is supervised, it will prevent Activation Lock from working by default (unless it's an organization device and it was explicitly enabled via MDM). For instructions on removing supervision, see /tag unsupervise.

unc0ver on iOS 14 supports a library known as libkrw to replace tfp0. Users on 14.6+ will not be able to use this as it's non-functional with the latest unc0ver release. This breaks the following tools:

  • dimentio
  • NonceSet143
  • TSSSaver (Application)
  • vnodebypass
  • fouldecrypt
  • Iridium (fouldecrypt wrapper)

To set your generator, use the generator field in unc0ver's settings instead.

To decrypt apps, you must use a tool such as bfdecrypt .

unc0ver failing to configure a package with dpkg

unc0ver users may experience this error when attempting to jailbreak or restore rootFS. This error is known to be a result of restoring packages from backup tweaks such as IAmLazy, Batchomatic or BackupAZ.

If your device is on 14.3 or lower, you can resolve this issue by restoring rootfs using a different jailbreak. (Taurine/Odyssey/Chimera)

Also, if your device can be jailbroken with checkra1n, you may be able to manually fix issues with dpkg using a terminal and/or Filza.

Warning about malicious tweaks on iOS 15

On iOS 15 and above, a malicious tweak may be able to permanently brick your device if it remounts and modifies the rootfs snapshot (modifying the filesystem without editing the snapshot will not brick as your changes will be reverted upon rebooting).

On A11 and below this is generally recoverable by reverting the snapshot back, but on A12 and above your device will remain bricked unless Apple releases an update to fix it in the future.
