I have another one and that thing is the same exact age and that thing is still going strong. I expect that thing to last another year or 2.
I did that already, iTunes can’t recognize it. Only thing I could get out of it was some heat from where the battery is. I even let the iPod sit for a few hours to see if anything could happen but nope, just heat. The screen isn’t dead because I would’ve heard the classic charge sound once it booted if that was dead.
Actually, iTunes can’t even detect it.

And Youtube does work on iOS 6, you have to change a few numbers in 2 plist files
Install the latest version (I think any 10.x version will work, I'm using 10.07 instead of 10.11)
Then go to /var/mobile/Applications/YouTube (enable Application Names in iFile settings if you can't find it)
Change every instance of the existing version (eg. 10.11.xxxx) in iTunesMetadata.plist and Info.plist to 11.49.9 (edit with property list viewer to make it easier)
This together with DisableYoutubeUpdates makes it work
TubeFixer works too, but it seems to clash with a backrounding tweak I have (Youtubed), so I used DisableYoutubeUpdates instead
