To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:

1. Restart OBS Studio first!
2. Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
3. Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
4. Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
5. Paste the URL into this Discord channel

Im using teleport to port my cam from stream to game pc, I crop this to the size i want, and use shader filter over it (Rounded_rect.shader) . But it rounds only the edge which i cut off by resizing, is there a way to get the edges rounded ?

Quick follow-up question. In that conversion you did for me, you manually computed the mod() (which I thought was modulo? 😅 ) ... when I tried converting it, I used fmod() and that didn't throw a compiler error but also didn't work (produced some real weird results).

My naive look at mod() vs fmod() shows that they each handle negative numbers slightly differently (one ensuring the signs match with result and divsor, the other result and dividend) ... was that why you did the calculation manually, to match / account for that behavior? Or is something else happening? That's what it looks like to me, but I'm very new here.

Duplicate this macro, change "speed_percent": 110 to "speed_percent": 100, add hotkeys if needed (add the "If" "Hotkey" condition to each macro), verify macros work as they should.

The OBS Transform feature always happens after all other filters are applied, so if you want to crop or resize something and then apply filters to it, then you need to use the Crop/Pad filter instead of doing it in transform menu, as filters and shaders are appiled in the order they are given top to bottom. So use Crop/Pad followed by rounded rect shader. It's just an order of operations issue.

Yes, there are several different types of mod operations in shaders, and they do not work the same between languages, so hand coding a specific implementation is generally the preferred way to do it to not end up with language or implementation differences.

The mod() macro I gave that you posted above is a macro implementation of the GLSL mod() function basically.

Yeah, no prob. If you get stuck on anything feel free to post here because there are a LOT of things that one can get stuck on. I use Microsoft's HLSL documentation and when something doesn't work it is trial and error to figure out if I'm doing something wrong, the shader code is doing something wrong or undefined behaviour, implementation defined behaviour that varies, or if it is just that the given HLSL feature does not work at all in OBS (such as passing arrays as function arguments). So sometimes porting shaders requires re-architecting them within the confines of OBS's shader implementation which is largely undocumented. So it's a big science lab to share info via word of mouth and document as we go. 🙂

My dream is to help document it. Which is happening. Very...very glacially. Here's what I'm stuck on now: trying to convert the last calculation, which is currently getting "incorrect number of arguments" due to scalar * vector stuff, I think

Another one to be wary of is the derivative functions... they vary in implementation and results between GLSL, HLSL, and between vendors and implementations which is a lot of fun for sure. 🙂 Fortunately not many shaders seem to use the derivative functions, but they are sometimes used for example in edge detection algorithms.

Also, the math inside the () there can be rewritten from (2. * v_in.pos.xy - s) to mad(2., v_in.pos.xy, - s) which is an optimization.

For subtraction, just need to negate the 3rd argument with a unary -. And for divisions sometimes you can invert the division into a multiplication operation. So for example if something was written as: value / 2.0 - 0.5 this could be rewritten as a mad() operation as: mad(value, 0.5, -0.5)

converting divide by 2 into multply by 0.5 which is mathematically the same

But you get the shader optimization out of the result this way.

When writing/converting shaders I usually convert them and get them to functionally work first, and then go through later doing an optimization path that looks for places to use mad() and also restructuring things to use more vectors when possible and other things that make shaders run faster.

The two languages handle things a little differently, so some things that are implicitly done by the language in GLSL must be done manually in HLSL or vice versa.

Here is another trick to pass on to work around an OBS bug that I just found in my shader stuff...

// Bug: OBS does not parse non-parameterized macro expansions wrapped in parentheses
//      properly.  Using this macro works around the problem.
//      Example:
//            #define FOO (1234)  // OBS will issue a parsing error on this line,
//            bar = FOO;            // so this line will not work.

So if you're ever using parameterized macros, use this to work around the bug.

Another tip, is to create your own definitions for PI and any other mathematical constants by copy and pasting them from a calculator or an online website that is a trusted source, to as many digits as possible to avoid rounding errors causing math problems in the shaders. Then if you find shaders that define PI or whatever, replace their definition with your own trustworthy one. I have found way too many shaders where someone manually typed in PI or some other constant and it was incorrect, or not enough precision and it caused visual errors to occur in the shader. The most famous story of this problem is id Software's DOOM game in which John Carmack defined PI totally wrong, which caused visual errors in the game that were subtle and never discovered for many years. However, in that time, hundreds of other game developers copied John's code and now there are hundreds of open source projects out there using John's incorrect PI definition for math, creating bugs in all of their software. 🙂

I made my own include file with math constants that my shaders #include, and copied all the math constants out of the math related C header files which go to like 24 digits. Thought being, don't reinvent the wheel, someone already figured it out and got it right. 🙂

OBS supports only VST 1 and 2, however the VST has to be the same architecture as the OBS executable, so if using 64 bit OBS, you can only use 64 bit VSTs. If a VST is only available 32bit, it wont work in 64bit OBS. Also 32bit OBS is not recommended (not sure it's even available anymore). So the TLDR of it is, use 64bit OBS, and only use 64bit VST 1 or 2.

This is maybe more about shaders than obs-shaderfilter specifically; apologies if it's out of place here. I'm trying and failing to convert the shadertoy here over to the shaderfilter... it's mostly correct but there's this visual fracturing happening (look about the center of that image, the lines don't meet up) which isn't present in the original. You can screenshot Notepad or similar software, or use a Text source pointing to a file and separately edit the text file. When OBS notices it has changed it will reload the text.

Or it could be an HTML file in a browser source as well.

The OBS Text Source has configurable text and background opacity, and CSS can be used in browser source for setting opacity. OBS also has a Color Correction filter that can be applied to any source to configure it's opacity.

So if you wanted to take notes using an iPad as an input device, you just need to figure out how to get the text from the iPad to the PC running OBS, or to use software on the iPad to video capture the display or app on the device and transmit it to OBS using NDI or other technologies. OBS can handle the transparency from there.

Hey everyone, new to OBS and not sure if this is the right channel. I'm trying to get my DAW (Reaper) audio into OBS using the ReaStream plugin. I've added the plugin to my master channel in Reaper, sent to local broadcast, added a new audio input source in OBS, added the Vst filter, opened the plugin interface button to make sure that it's on "recieve" but i am definitely not getting any audio. I've followed online tutorials for this, but some kind of setting must not be rigth on my computer. Any ideas? Thanks

If it broke when you updated OBS, you'll probably have to update the plugin to a newer version that supports the new OBS. If there isn't one then you'd have to wait until the developers update it, or roll back OBS to a previous release if it is important.

iirc it's just a browser source thing, and it broke because of the CEF update but the developer needs to fix it, not much we can do.

CEF no longer gets global inputs or somesuch, I think. There was an issue post about it.

Trying to get multistream with the Stream elements live plug in. I can go straight to twitch alone without issue, but when i try to add a secondary, it gives me an error saying there is no config url for the current service. When i acknowledge the error it says my video drivers may need updating.... Made sure they were up to date and it gives the same error regardless of which secondary platform i try to use. Accounts are connected

I wanted to activate the plugin Move to combine individual scenes with a 3D effect today. So, in my gaming scene, I created a source for my game and applied the following filters: "3D effect" with Move Value "Set" and Move Value "Off" (see image Move1).

I then wanted to activate this in my Just Chatting scene using Move Source. However, I have the problem that the filters I created in my gaming scene (source: game) do not appear under Simultaneous Move (see image Move3).

I’ve already Googled and followed the instructions from the tutorial step by step. Do you happen to have a solution?

Okay I'm getting stumped. I installed Advanced Scene Switcher. I am trying to create a cross fade macro from scene to scene (This is also found in the GitHub wiki).

Under the Macro tab, I click the +, named it, then under "Edit Macro" I click + again to create a condition, but when I click on the drop down the only options are Macro, Macro Property, Queue and Variable.

In the video from Github the person explaining the how to, they were able to click Scene, which I do not see on my end.

Vertical canvas now allows you to select multiple tracks for its recording

Was wondering if you guys could inform me if Advanced Scene Switcher would be the solution to my issue here.

I play osu!, and I want to use automatic scene switching (in between going from the game, alt-tabbing [where my problem is, and where I want this .gif transition to show at the right times], and then to Brave) I'm having issues with both my game changing window titles (depending on which map/song I play), and same with brave (depending on which website I visit) and it seems to be fucking with the process quite a bit. When I get into a song on osu! (where it goes from osu! --> osu! - "xxx song name") it goes to my inactive window transition due to the window title changing, and same for Brave depending on website. Apologies for my ignorance in relation to OBS as a program if I'm missing something simple here.

OBS runs on the pc. What you capture into OBS can be recorded and saved to a pc, sent to a streaming service like Twitch or YT, or use the virtual camera as a webcam as another app on the pc.

So I've been struggling with two issues with OBS and wondering if I could get some advice: the first is the constant error that obs did not shut down properly and wants me to run normally or in safe-mode. I have not found any crash reports. my second question is specifically about an error I'm getting while using streamelements plug-ins: my twitch is set up just fine, and I've even been able to stream onto tiktok, however one of the optional "docks" is tiktok chat and everytime I try and log in using the pop-up window I get an error that says my account is "suspended." The reason I'm asking here is my account on tiktok app and website work just fine, this is the only place I'm getting this error. If it's not on OBS's end that's fine I just thought I'd ask in case anyone has dealt with it.

Hoping someone can help please. The Move Transition Plugin isn't working with my InstaLink 360. I add a filter to the device - select move video capture device - select Insta360 Link as the device - select settings and tick pan, tilt and zoom. I then select the camera position on Insta360 link and press get value on the filter. I then repeated this with another filter but selected a different camera position. When I click between the different filters I have setup I can see different zoom, pan and tilt settings showing on the screen but the Insta360 Link isn't actually moving. What am I doing wrong?

Hello everyone! I'm having a little problem with the Replay Source plugin, and I couldn't find the solution with google so I came to see if anyone could help me here.
I've installed the plugin and set it up as I wanted on OBS to test it, everything works fine except the duration of replays. Whatever value I set, the duration remains 5 seconds.
I saw someone ask this question on the plugin forum, but there was no answer.
If nobody knows, I thought I'd try reading the code to change it by hand, but if it's possible to avoid that, it would be better!

The Vertical plugin always had its own dock for scenes and sources. I'm not sure what you mean by "the vertical scene was located with inside the actual scene." It didn't work that way when it first came out, and it doesn't work that way now.

No problem. In fact that is what Profiles in OBS are for, keeping separate profiles and settings. One can be for a connected YT account, another for Twitch.

You do if you only use one Profile and want to change which account to stream to.
Make two Profiles (Profile Menu, new)
One for twitch, connect the account there in stream settings, set bitrate, all that.
One for YT, connect the account, set bitrate, etc.
Switch Profiles when you want to change where to stream to.
Profiles are separate from the Scene collection.

no need to reinvent the wheel usually, no benefit of it being in OBS itself. that being said, you can add any window as a dock with this plugin so you can pick whichever software you'd like and view in directly as an OBS dock https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/window-dock.2005/

Hi, I have a question, I need to put text in the source in obs+ write something in it and for it to turn off itself after 10 seconds, just tell it that when the scene turns on, you will be active for 10 seconds and then turn off. Is there a way to set it up? Only for one source in the scene? And if it works, would it work for the image too? And it would be good for it to show up after 10 seconds, then be active for 20 seconds and then inactive for 50 seconds and that's how it's done? But the main thing now is the text +

I figured. I was trying to figure out a way to stream 24/7 to a set of streams (using Stream Elements Restreaming Service), and then doing a stream that splits for VOD purposes. I guess I'll just have to use two different OBSes.

idk if anyone else has had this problem but i added a controller overlay to my obs and it works perfectly fine when tabbed into obs, but when i click into any other tab weather its a game or its somthing else the controller overlay stops showing me pressing buttons on my controller, if anyone has had this problem or if anyone can help me let me know

what filter is used for this, the one that is selected in OBS? But where? I use this filter only in main settings (Video - General - Downscale Filter) so that the encoder is loaded and not the CPU, as I understand it. And also there is an upscale (1080 to 1440). OBS itself will work for broadcasting to YouTube and the specified plugin sends video to Twitch at 1080. Where will this plugin take the image? That is initially set in "Base (Canvas) Resolution" (1080) or the one that has already been upscaled to 1440?

Your output resolution setting in settings>video isn't used by obs-multi-rtmp if you're rescaling in its settings.

Hello there,

I am using an Elgato HD60 X to capture video from my PS5. The capture card is connected as follows:
• HDMI from PS5 to HD60 X
• HDMI from HD60 X to monitor
• USB-C from HD60 X to my laptop (via a USB-C to USB 3.0 adapter)

The issue:
• The video feed works fine in Elgato’s 4K Capture Utility, but
• In OBS, the screen remains white.

I have already tried:
• Closing the 4K Capture Utility before opening OBS
• Adjusting the video format (NV12/YUY2) and color space (709/601) in OBS
• Running OBS as an administrator
• Checking my USB-C adapter to ensure it supports USB 3.0
• Disabling HDR on the PS5 and setting it to 1080p/60Hz

Despite these steps, the issue persists. Could you please assist me in resolving this?

It should help, yeah. Teleport + wifi is never going to be a good time. Though do make sure you wouldn't be better off just streaming off the gaming system directly.

It supports variables, but it's a bit clumsy for things like that. If I was making a bunch of alerts, I'd personally use something like streamer.bot or similar to do the heavy lifting.

I stream using my PC with 2 laptops using teleport. I have very little lag because I use Ethernet. I use an Ethernet splitter that I connect my computers to and connect that to my router. I am also ready to add a 3rd laptop to my set-up. I bought an 8 port splitter for under $20.
