So ytd I accidentally deleted a obs recording file but it was too big so it was permanently deleted. I have been trying to find a solution and i think i finally found one(testdisk).

Its been almost 12 hrs, but the computer wasn't used and i made sure not to write any new data to that folder where the file was deleted. The drive is a secondary drive(HDD).

Do I still have a chance of recovering that recording ?

Its not about writing something else to that folder, but rather, writing to whatever physical part of the drive the file was at. And your pc is writing something to the drive regardless of you specifically copying a file. The OS is doing stuff as well.

Need to use disk recovery software for that. Something like Norton Disk Doctor if that's still a thing, or perhaps Spinrite... it's been a while. Thing is, if it is on the system drive that the OS and apps get installed to and ran from, you can't install these programs or it could overwrite the data you're trying to recover, so generally you have to remove the drive and try to recover files from another computer. Problem is that closing programs causes them or the OS to write open files to disk, session management etc. and shutting down the computer does too.

So if it is a system drive, chances of recovery are probably low. If it is a separate data drive and you quickly acted to try to prevent anything else from being written, it is a solid maybe. 🙂

Even when a file can be recovered, sometimes blocks of it are corrupted from being used though too.

Oh I missed your mention that it was a secondary drive.

I recovered some files off ext2 or ext3 years ago using something, forget what it was. In Linux at least, you could recover the files but you lost the filenames, which could be a mess if it was a lot of small files with no record of their names.

On inode based filesystems I believe that's true. It's been a while so I'm rusty but I think FAT either preserves the filename or a portion of it if I'm not mistaken.

FILES11 uses versioning so not only is the filename not deleted but the files themselves aren't either.

The black bars are not the "black bars" one sees with letterbox or aspect ratio differences from the video and the display. What you are seeing is the empty space around your video in the YT video player. If you use a light or white theme in your browser, it would be white space.

I dunno, I have a Radeon 6700XT/12GB and I enable RT in every single game I've tried so far, and had them running on Ultra @ 1440p with RT maxed getting 100+ fps, with the sole exception of Cyberpunk 2077 which I have to only use about half of the RT options and on high gfx, get 79fps. So I'd say that RT very much depends on the exact games one is playing, the resolution, the specific GPU and how much VRAM it has, whether it is plugged into a PCIE 5, 4, or 3 slot, and other factors. One's mileage will vary. And this is on an RDNA2 card, the ones that people say are terrible. I must admit, I never thought I'd even be able to use ray tracing at all from public comments about AMD RT, but in actual use, I've been able to use it on every game tested so far, no problem, even though it is inferior to NVIDIA in that regard.

Granted, if I tried newer more cutting edge games I'd probably be unable to use RT, or have to lower the resolution... but Epic Games store hasn't given away newer RT enabled games that I want to play yet <grin>

honestly, easiest and pretty good method is probably just use V3 or V5 UVR-MDX (they both have benefits and downsides, gotta try both)
they capture a lot of fullness/reverb in the vocals, but also on some songs capture a lot of instruments

V3 is default and already there in the UVR application, V5 you can download through the application

just make sure to turn up segment size (might as well just max it out)

heres UVR-MDX HQ 5 versus the newest model on a website
it's.. compromises.. (website doesn't seem to allow downloading the model.. does have a free queue that just takes a few minutes)

the old webcam never caused this problem, while this new webcam triggers it

so, I've been using this for a while now.. seems to be the best I've found so far for vocals/instrumentals
only issue is piano... doesn't seem to handle piano super well (a lot of models don't)
the default lightweight UVR model actually seems to handle piano the best... at least, with limited testing... (I used V5, though, V3 is default)

I think for the most part, I do like "bleedless" version better (which is actually less bleedless, just a little retune, it seems)... main issue is during parts with no to very little voice, it will pick up more unwanted sounds

Yeah gonna run that on tonight's stream - mind you, in my case it's a 2 PC setup so the game is elsewhere (though I still have some 3D programs like my vtuber software), but I have forced OBS to Vertical Sync Fast as well as some other things

The only other culprit I noticed was that both my monitors are only able to go 50, 59.95 or 74.95 Hz in Windows. I've tried forcing it to a flat 60Hz through Custom Resolution Utility as well now, see where that ends up. Either worse, better, or ... same haha

It should survive with minimal stuttering, display capture sources will change their size to match the new resolution. Ideally, change your multi-monitor display layout in such a way that the display that'll be running games is placed on the rightmost, so that changes in resolution won't move any windows on other displays.

Well that would be with the projector method, but Mitchell suggested to instead use Windows' native Display Duplication method in the Display Settings

For the projector method I'd go with fullscreen projector anyway (plus OBS would run in the tray) so that ... shouldn't move things around, right?

In a multi-monitor setup with 2 displays placed side by side, if the leftmost display were to change resolutions, say, from 1920x1080 to 800x600, some windows on that display will relocate to the second display at least partially.

It would be the diagonal setup where you can't move the mouse cursor over to the other PC

Because some games don't have a proper cursor jail so if you move the camera ingame too far to the side the mouse would go to the other monitor

(Not all games would be played in exclusive fullscreen and the amount of games where specific resolutions like that are necessary are pretty slim, too - but it is something to consider)

Also, the windows being moved to the other monitor shouldn't matter too much, since the preview would be always on top through the settings

Apparently AMD and NVIDIA control panels also have a mirror option, so that is one more avenue to test. Other than that, programs like DisplayFusion or UltraMon apparently (according to a reddit post I found from 2 months ago)

Tear line moving down and then a stutter really feels like two things at very slightly different framerates, and the "lasted for a few seconds" being at the crossover point between the two where they almost match, but the minor variances keeps going back and forth over the line for a short period until they get far enough apart again.

Not sure that's actually a fixable problem in a lot of cases, though.

It'd be really cool if various rendering parts of OBS had hooks for ETW so that you could use the windows performance analyzer things and see very precisely when exactly things are happening all along the rendering pipelines.

Yeah so I tried with NVIDIA's control panel settings on OBS today. Forced it to VSync fast and Low Latency Mode Ultra - had increased frame render times (+2-3ms) and it also didn't fix the weird preview stutters. Stream was once again fine though.

Also, that means none of the changes have helped - not even forcing 60Hz over 59.95Hz through Custom Resolution Utility

It might not matter what you force it to, because the clocks aren't perfect, so one system might be rendering frames at 59.999fps, and one might be processing those frames at 60.001 fps, since there's no way to lock the rendering loop of the receiving system to the output of the first system.

damn, I'm disappointed by tar.gz performance

So I had directory I wanted to test. 542MB, 3303 files and 405 folders.

the slowest tar.gz took 210 seconds to complete, ended out at 496MB

zip at "normal" preset took 5 seconds and ended out at 498MB

The fastest 7z preset took 13 seconds and ended out at 495MB, beating the tar.gz in efficiency.

slowest 7z took 43 seconds and ended out with 486MB.

slowest zip took 22 seconds and ended at 497MB.

I'm disappointed because tar.gz is only slightly more efficient than zip, but wildly slower. While 7z is much faster and much more efficient.
