i found this script code and i added it to the config file
sensor:
- platform: template
sensors:
main_door_hindge:
value_template: "{%if states.sensor.main_door_t_access_control_9_9.state == '23' %}closed{% elif states.sensor.main_door_t_access_control_9_9.state == '22' %}open{% endif %}"
friendly_name: 'Main Door Status'
entry_door_hindge:
value_template: "{%if states.sensor.entry_door_t_access_control_18_9.state == '23' %}closed{% elif states.sensor.entry_door_t_access_control_18_9.state == '22' %}open{% endif %}"
friendly_name: 'Garage Entry Door Status'
but its giving me a error
#zwave-archived would know about Z-Wave
bad indentation of a mapping entry at line 16, column 14:
sensors:

If that's in sensors.yaml though, remove sensors:
To format your text as code, enter three backticks on the first line, press Enter for a new line, paste your code, press Enter again for another new line, and lastly three more backticks. Here's an example
Don't forget you can edit your post rather than repeatedly posting the same thing.
For over 15 lines you must use a code share site such as https://paste.ubuntu.com/ or https://www.hastebin.com/.
And use code formatting (or a code share site) so we can see the indenting 😉
@winged knoll i posted in #zwave-archived but to answer your questions no its posted in configuration.yaml
Hi everyone
I dont know if this is the right place to ask but:
I want to start using smart lights at my home. I like different products and I can't just stick to one brand. I like the Philips hue Play bars, I like the LIFX Beam lights, I like the nanoleafs, I think the yeelight bulbs are affordable etc...
But I want to control everything from 1 app. Lets say I want to "turn on my sunset vibe" I dont want to go in to 3 apps and activate it. Is there any other way?
That "app" is called Home Assistant
Many people have a wide range of brands hooked up to their HA install
Hmm okey but does it allow for more advanced features or just to "turn all lamps to red" etc?
I can imagine for example LIFX Beam has some special features for that light. Can I still control features like that with HA ?
and how do I get HA to work, do I need a hub of some kind ? can I control HA from an app?
HA is the app, you don't control from some other app
Start at https://www.home-assistant.io/ and read up about it 😉
https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/lifx/ has various things it can do, whether they cover what you're talking about I don't know
@winged knoll Thank you Tinkerer. So it is safe to buy different brands?
Assuming you take your time and research it 😉
Yeah I should just read about it but all these brands and different solutions make me crazy xD
https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations are all the things that HA natively supports
There's also third party integrations (aka custom components)
Obviously you need to check and see if the things you want it to do are things it can do
I'm getting this when plugging a USB into my Rpi4: WARNING (MainThread) [supervisor.hardware.monitor] Ignore device /sys/devices/platform/scb/fd500000.pcie/pci0000:00/0000:00:00.0/0000:01:00.0/usb2/2-2/2-2:1.0/host0/target0:0:0/0:0:0:0/block/sda / failes to initialize by udev. I'm trying to follow this guide: https://developers.home-assistant.io/docs/operating-system/debugging/#ssh-access-to-the-host to enable ssh access to the host. Predictably, I'm unable to import the SSH key from the USB. Any suggestions? The USB has a GPT partition scheme and a NTFS partition named CONFIG.
@winged knoll thank you
Sounds like you want to ask in your install method channel...
is it rbpi4 8gb version suitable for HASS ?
It will work, with an SSD, but I will never recommend it
stick on 4Gb ? right ?
No, I would recommend any minicomputer or laptop from the last 10 years, except atoms, or an actual server
anyone know if this one works well - https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/47bd4ae9-088b-4404-a299-5bb5f69e0470. I've gotten back into training and looking to replace my 8 year old garmin with a smart/fitness watch hybrid. HA app is a must
Hi
Which is better: HA Blue or Pi4?
I am currently running it in VirtualBox on an ubuntu server, but whenever the server goes down, I have to manually start virtualbox, which makes it annoying for people in the house when they can't control anything
Is it possible to make the VM autostart on boot?
Yes, virtualbox is horrible
If you want to learn something, switch to #449717345808547842 if you just want a locked down system without freedom move to #330990055533576204 both on a dedicated machine
I don't have a dedicated machine for it, is vBox still better than Blue and Pi4?
They are all equally horrible imo
In their own way
Any 10yo laptop or minicomputer like a nuc will be an upgrade
Unless it runs atom
Hey all. Having a heck of a time getting single color”Flux_led” controllers to work. I have them in Magic Home working perfectly, but cannot get them working in HA properly. Maybe because there is no RBG channels? Just a dimmer level?
New to the community. If this should go elsewhere please direct me :). Thanks!
That'd be a topic for #integrations-archived (as mentioned in the channel topic here)
how would i go about changing a light to a switch? i found a config file to change a switch to light but not that other way?
Questions about a hardware device (not their #integrations-archived with HA, and not the thing that HA calls devices)? Someone might have the same device and be able to help you out! If you've got a Z-Wave or Zigbee devices, see #zwave-archived and #zigbee-archived, #cameras-archived for cameras, and #diy-archived for making your own stuff.
Problems with the Blue? See #330990055533576204. If your install isn't responding then see your install method channel above.
If you want to share images, use https://imgur.com/ or similar.
Please use https://paste.ubuntu.com/ to share code or logs
You can't, but that's a topic for #integrations-archived
Hi guys. I just notice that ikea motion sensor works weird. It has like a 3 min delay. So doesnt matter if it is not seeing anything, the sensor keeps on until 3 min has passed then turns off if theres actually no one.
I read that is for battery purposes. Now my light stays on for 3 min... Any fix to this? Or any other motiom sensor that works better?
The Hue one is the Zigbee gold standard (for now anyway)
The Xiaomi ones can be modified to report faster
Forgive me if this is the wrong channel for my question. I have a Sonoff RF Bridge which I've used to replicate a couple of generic 433MHz remotes for remote mains sockets that would be a pain to replace with zigbee or whatever. After a bit of trial and error it works brilliantly with 2 of my 3 systems. The 3rd can't be seen at all. Nothing on the console for any button press. Apparently, it is 433MHz. Does anyone have any clues on things I might try to solve this? Link to the hardware: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00OS4CDHM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
oof thats tricky soldering the board
Or a pencil
Yeah, google for the hack
lul
There's a stack of guides out there
you guys got any recommendations for a good motion sensor that'll work with HA without much problem? price doesn't matter too much ig but cheap is preferable (duh)
I've been searching for a few months for what appears to be the unicorn poop of thermostats. My needs: 240v line voltage thermostat (ideally supporting forced air, but not required), with the 'wants' of remote sensor support and no cloud connectivity required. I currently have wifi/bt/z-wave, and am happy to add zigbee if this magical thermostat exists. I've currently got 2 stelpro STZW402WB+ in the 2 offices, and was going to do the same for my bedroom when I discovered you can't push an averaged temperature to it.
I'm still never sure what is meant with a "thermostat" because we haven't had any fixed ones since the 80s, are you talking about a wall mounted hardwired thing?
fair point. In my case, basically yes. I essentially need something to toggle a 240v relay based on the average temperature in the room.
Aha, I haven't seen one of those in over 20 years for sure, does it use resistor wall or does it just switch power to different ports on the other device?
I've seen zwave floor heat controllers here but that is probably the closest
it just breaks the Line feed to the baseboard heater
Yeah, I have these right now: https://www.amazon.com/Stelpro-STZW402WB-Thermostat-Baseboards-Convectors/dp/B01BYL1OAS/ but they don't support reading the temperature from remote sensors.
Aha, so you would be better off with a "dumb" version of that thermostat, that could be integrated in HA and read the temperature from another sensor
My idea was to have 3-4 sensors spread through a room, then a device that reads them and averages them, then feeds the average temperature to the Thermostat overriding its local read temp.
Right, I want a slightly dumber version that either lets me tell it how hot the room is, or lets me just manually control its on/off status for the load.
Interesting, we don't have those, but I'm guessing there must be someone else who has done that before in the US
Something else would surprise me
Yeah, the big issue I keep hitting: Anything supporting remote sensor/control is either stupid proprietary wireless protocol or requires cloud connectivity.
Should be fairly possible to #diy-archived though
If all it does is on and off really
yeah, but I want it to be something that stays in the place when we eventually sell it.
Just keep the original one in a box
I've replaced 60 or so bulbs with smart bulbs, have the old dumb ones in a box still 🤣
Heh, I work at a smart lighting company, so I'm biased on that topic 😉
I work in enterprise IT, so I'm biased shitting on SBCs 🤣
Looking for basically a cheaper version of the Bond Pro bridge....Ethernet connected RF bridge platform
I have two ceiling fans that are RF and I cba to swap anything else out
They are both Harbor Breeze poop controllers that are mounted in the top of the housing on the 15 foot ceiling
Trying to turn off 2.4ghz and that's my last device. Normal bond bridge
I was actually going to add some Konnected boards but i just noticed they're 2.4ghz only as well so I'm evaluating my options
n mode is just a vht coding in 2.4 or 5ghz, not a band specific rating
err band specific specification.
(like how 802.11g is just the OFDM coding used in 802.11a in 5ghz applied to 2.4ghz, instead of the dsss coding that 802.11b used)
Oh lawd, dsss, that brings back memories
((I'm a wifi/rf mega nerd))
I started rolling out WiFi in 2003 at my then employer
55 primary and secondary schools getting wifi

So as a couple of RF nerds, is there any advantage to disabling 2.4ghz instead of using band steering
well, 2.4ghz gives you better range (it penetrates walls/etc better), but at the cost that because 2.4ghz is cheaper, more people use it so it's more crowded (and it's also a smaller band, so there are less discrete channels)
I live in a free standing house, so I have little to no interference from neighbors, so I just use band steering
I have a free standing house plus a guest house, using in wall AC APs from Ubiquiti right now
I also do 2.4ghz + band steering
they support 4x4 mimo as well
yep, you don't really gain anything by giving up the 2.4ghz ssid
I have seen a couple odd things happen with a couple of 5ghz wifi cameras, wasn't sure if disabling would help
you might benefit from running different ssids on 2.4ghz and 5ghz so you don't need band steering
huh, well honestly couldn't tell you what entered my head that made me think i should get rid of it altogether
but easiest is to just leave it up
I've been meaning to create a separate iot network soon anyway
I did that as well. I have a iot ssid that doesn't get internet access because my stupid vizio tv wouldn't complete OOBE without connecting to wifi.
also has my wyze cameras on it
ditched wyze altogether at this point
because I don't trust them with internet access, even with custom firmware on them
almost entirely Ubiquiti except for the doorbell, which I'm strongly considering swapping
exactly.
all but three houses on my street have a Ring doorbell and it makes me sad
thanks for the advice gents
now i just have to sort out if I'm willing to put faith of my security system in 2.4ghz
or if I'm willing to run Ethernet through some walls..... huge huge pain
Hi. I've got 15 tradfri GU10s landing today.. What would be the best way to connect them? Either connect with conbee 2 using zigbee2mqtt or connect to hue hub
Conbee and z2m is probably the worst idea
You should get a hold of a proper ti stick and use zigbee2mqtt for everything
Don't use multiple meshes
What's wrong with conbee 2? What would you recommend
Is conbee 2 not very good then?
Not for zigbee2mqtt
I've been using the 2 together for a little while now and not had any issues
Hello everyone! Im in the process of renovating my apartment and i want to install new Light switches, etc.... I'm trying to figure out which is the best (budget) option for me. I've some some smart touch switches from Aliexpress that used eWeLink so i managed to connect it with Google Home. Any suggestions would be nice. I'm aiming for $10-15 per light switch or something like that
For something like the sonoff RF bridge, do I NEED to flash another firmware like tasamoto?
Or can is work with HA as is
literally 0 issues with the conbee and zigbee2mqtt
You say so, but multiple users have reported problems the last few weeks
🤷♂️ just my experience, its more stable that deconz
🤷♂️
how to make diy smart wifi switch which support google assistant and alexa??
You need to flash it, otherwise it's just set to work with Sonoff's app. Tasmota provides HA with the RF data (and controls for the bridge) in MQTT. Fortunately, the RF Bridge board is easy to connect to a serial board to flash, unlike the Sonoff Zigbee board, which is a pain in the rear end to connect.
Ah fair enough. But I guess I can use the Sonoff app and firmware to see if it can detect my devices? Otherwise its going back, and i dont want to flash it if i cant use it xD
Does it matter if one connects Conbee II or a Z-wave device to a USB 2 or a USB 3 port?
But then you mean USB 2 may be better for Zigbee, right?
Yes
Anyone found a way to disable the blue led on a ZME-UZB1 via config? I'm afraid putting electrical tape on it will reduce the reception.
same question for the conbee 2 xD, its like a disco
I guess so. I flashed mine right away. I'm only using it as a replicator for some generic remotes I had which has been excellent, so I had no sensors to detect or whatever.
What is it with devices being 2.4ghz only. So annoying
Can't even pair with this bridge ATM
2.4ghz transcievers are cheaper to build/buy
God this sonoff app is utter shite
Sorted out 2.4ghz, finds the device but then fails to get device info
And after all that, it doesn't work :(
Wouldnt have thought a fan remote would be a rolling RF code
Hi
I'm looking for an alarm siren that I can turn off and on (f.e. with a 433mhz gateway an on and off command, but zigbee or wlan is also possible)
Does anyone have a hint for a specific hardware typ?
Hello, can anyone tell me how to check that my USB Bluetooth adapter is recognised and working with Home Assistant OS on a Raspberry Pi 3B+? PS: I'm a noob with HA. Thanks in advance
@steel temple #330990055533576204
Ok, I will check. Thank you
on the tp-link kasa HA page it says
This integration supports devices that are controllable with the KASA app. The following devices are known to work with this component.
does this mean that any of their products will work but some just haven't been tested? or is there a chance that the unlisted ones won't work
I suppose you're right, and dammit ignore my question anyway, the one I was looking at is listed there 🤦♂️ I misread it
good evening,
Is there already hardware UPS integrated somewhere ?
i bought a Raspberry UPS Hat
i want to install it.
and by install it... you mean to integrate it in HA?
Yes
the USV is supposed to shutdown the PI and Hass after battery decreases a certain level
#integrations-archived then, with info about your specific ups
that is.. just a simple ups... i may be wrong but this is just plug n play, no information to extract for HA specifically
i had the impression something needs to be installed on the pi so he listens to the UPS
as killing the power to the pi leaves it unimpressed
i mean, somewhere i need to be able to setup battery and alert levels
My question was aimed if hassio has UPSses integrated somewhere already
by form of an integration or other config
or if i need to install the UPS to the pi myselve.
this is not really HA related i believe
not directly, no
Anyone running a wall mounted amazon fire tablet for HA? Curious about the concerns with it being plugged in all the time - any experiences with leaving it plugged in all the time and battery failure?
I'm really surprised there's no way to just have it hold a charge at something like 70%... can't seem to find anything like that for iOS devices either.
There is a product called "Chargie" which can control the battery charge level but other than that i'm not aware of anything fancy solutions. You could just put the charger behind smart plug and provide telemetry from that same tablet to HA and let it cut power at the threshold
they will last for years like this, don't worry about the battery, think of it as a built in UPS
i have the google nexus 5 phone running ip webcam for 3 years with always on charger
so a 7 year old device
Bizzare. My Sonoff RF Bridge would learn but failed to send the commands, figured was a rolling code, but tried a BroadLink RM4 this morning and works flawlessly with everything
I never got the sonoff RF bridge to work in Norway
Broadlink is flawless for everything I throw at it
I'm looking for nice bedroom ceiling light I can connect to Home Assistant.
It would be cool if it had brightness and color temperature regulation.
I prefer zigbee or wifi communication.
Thank you
Can you recommend something from Yeelight / Xiaomi?
It seems these ikea lamps are not available in my country
https://templates.blakadder.com/lvl_300.html or any yeelight
Is YLXD09YL compatible with Home Assistant?
Has anyone already tried to connect it?
looks like brainless lamp to me?
"Note: It is not smart light, can't connect with phone app." based on random google results
its a classic ceiling light with a built in motion sensor
whats the point of tuya converting it then
Anyone know about shelly 2 dimmers?
I see under the same name some images where it has 5 screw terminals and others where it has 7.
Is this new/old versions? Which is which?
I've over 20 hue bulbs... If I change the name in the hue app that shows up in home assistant... But the entity name remains generic.. Can I change the entity name
If supported by that #integrations-archived it'll be the same way as anything else that supports it - https://www.home-assistant.io/docs/configuration/customizing-devices/
Ha simple had that... Cheers
Hello. I am thinking of buying either an echo show or a google nest hub (i.e., some voice assistant with a screen). I have been using google mini for a while but would not mind switching to Amazon. For short, I want to use this in my kitchen to have control over home assistant. Which would you recommend ?
It's natively a media player, unlike Amazon. You can cast the UI to it (for a few minutes before it times out) too
do I e.g. get a chance to click on e.g., an app icon that will trigger the UI to show up ?
It's covered in the docs there, but it's all handled from the HA side
of course, you can also expose everything to Google and use Google's own UI
and so this would not be possible on Alexa then ?
Not as far as I know. Even as a media player you need a third party integration that behaves ... "interestingly"
ok thanks
another question then, if I have a way to detct when someone rings my doorbeel, can I then trigger something to show a pic/video from my front door camera right away on the google nest hub device ?
I know this would work with the expensive google compatible door bell but my setup is more like I detect the doorbell with rtl_433 and then use a cheap chinese camera to get a picture or vid
Yes
As long as you have a compatible stream source (https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/stream) then it works just fine
excellent thanks
Yeah there's the old dimmer (1) and the new/current one (2), former with 5 connectors and latter with 7, also don't confuse with "shelly 1" which is half round while the "shelly dimmer 1" has some 45deg angles
Just wondering, does anyone know if the new sonoff dual r3 supports dimming lights?
I’m in need for a new washer and dryer, I’d like them to integrate well with HA. What brand would be best to go with Hoover/candy/Samsung in terms of getting it to work
Thanks, looks nice, will buy a couple and try them out. 🙂
has anyone found a smoke/fire detector (zigbee, preferable) that got additional sensors like temp or lux?
funny enough there's no temp sensor in smoke detectors, it costs like 0,001 $ per sensor and knowledge of heat would be quite valuable. But nope, i've just installed bunch of new detectors and they have none of those (one brand still not installed but doubt)
however i'd also like to keep those devices as minimum to smart as possible..
that is indeed funny because i just got a gas detector with a built in heat/temp alarm
not by a chance co detector? i need one still to replace the old one
How timely. I was just coming here to see about 'smart' smoke detectors.
Hey @zealous dune I was just on your site. Fantastic work. A bit overwhelming for a newbie like me, but appreciated nonetheless!
i found one thats called "frient" (https://frient.dk/products/intelligent-smoke-alarm/) that has a temp sensor and a "optical" sensor for the smoke, but due to the "genius" product name its very hard to find anything about it and its quite expensive :<
@gloomy plume Are you in the US or Europe? Seems I found the US version of that frient smoke alarm: https://www.develcoproducts.com/products/sensors-and-alarms/smoke-alarm/
europe (germany to be exact)
quickly googling there really aren't too many options. I also tried earlier to look for a device which you could pre-mute before the alert but found none
@gloomy plume look for Develco, that's the main company of frient
thanks! 🙂
wth, our local price 59 EUR..
any fail-alarms and can you read the sensors? :3
mine is only the heat alarm and that one reads fine
hmm, might need to consider that instead for the kitchen and living room (with a fireplace)
i use mine in the kitchen, i tend to smoke it up a lot 😄
just add automation: smoke alarm triggers -> turn of smoke alarm
problem fixed. :>
real smoke alarms don't work like that
i know, real smoke alarms go off and drive you crazy when one tells "power low" and the rest in the network help spreading then news
i set up some fireangels at work and at home and those tend to have a really bad battery runtime 😦
so i thought, instead of buying a lot of sensors for temp maybe there would be a good replacement for those fireangels 😄
the automation joke was the homeassist version of "im just tearing that thing down"
I'm a dummy and thought my Aqara camera would act as a Zigbee hub for all Zigbee products. Alas, I can only attach other Aqara devices to that Aqara hub. I've been seeing reference to the various dongles and connectors for HA. What device should I use for Z-Wave and Zigbee connectivity ?
see #zigbee-archived pinned messages
Hi, I have a Tasmota module. I'd like to use it to control shutters (Up-switch, Down-swith and 2 relays to control the motor). I tried already many templates but in Home Assistant, it always pops-up as a module with switches, not as a shutter.
https://tasmota.github.io/docs/Home-Assistant/#supported-entities - looks like you need to define it as a shutter
https://tasmota.github.io/docs/Blinds-and-Shutters/, when set correctly its autodiscovered in HA
Is anyone able to help me with this? Log Entries when I try and flash either ESPHome or Tasmota on this D1 Mini https://imgur.com/pA7jB5z
Does it ever flash? How are you connecting to it? To what device?
Oh d1 mini
I hold reset button while I plug it into usb, then release when plugged in, and flash anything on it
#diy-archived would be the place to ask, though the ESPHome or Tasmota Discord servers may be better able to help
ESPHome is a system to control your ESP8266/ESP32, with a native integration for Home Assistant.
You can find their documentation here, and get help with ESPHome itself here in the #diy-archived channel (#integrations-archived for the integration). They also have their own Discord server too.
Ready to use custom firmware for ESP8266 devices (including Sonoff)
Docs:
https://tasmota.github.io/docs/
Discord:
https://discord.gg/Ks2Kzd4
Thanks I'll try there
That’s kind of like my wok set up. About 125,000 BTU burner
I like the Sonoff bridge flashed to Tasmota as it’s standalone
hey everyone, would love to get your collective insights on wall panel/tablets with a front door bell (and intercom) set up.
I've only been able to find ipad PoE adapters that can power AND provide network when the tablet is 'docked'
also iPORT do a cool wireless charging wall unit for easy removable (to use the tablet as a baby monitor)
However i'm concerned android is easier (less governed by the apple gestapo policies)
Has anyone figured out a good way of 'doorbell to tablet' or 'tablet to tablet' video/audio calls?
I'd like to change the power on behaviour of my Philips Hue bulbs. Based on https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/7146060PH.html I should send an MQTT command with the payload "hue_power_on_behavior": "on" or "off" or "recover". What is the easiest way to do this?
If you're using Zigbee2MQTT, see the #zigbee-archived channel
Snagged a Zig-ah-zig-ah adapter. Looking forward to getting that in a few weeks.
I have a problem, one solution is tasmota but I can't depend on wifi.
Can tasmota be used wired? Either esp32 or esp8266
Or be hardwired any other way to the rpi?🤔
You can hardwire Arduino atleast
But, why is WiFi not an option?
I run it in my greenhouse, if the WiFi goes out of range for a few minutes it just reconnects when it is available again
I have been using analoge sensors through USB-arduino.
But I'm switching to i2c sensors, and I have no clue how to integrate them but I know they're supported in tasmota.
I could probably use wifi, but that would require a Hotspot only for the ESP to connect to the PI, and it's another failure point.
I'm trying not to add more risk of sensor loss than absolutely necessary 👍
I've never had an esphome or tasmota device not come back to wifi
I have some 10 or so
I'm more concerned with the ap failing. 👍
I haven't had an ap fail in 20 years, but ok
I just had one AP go silent so it does happen...
I've had a few 🙈 two different ones have failed me in 1 year
One belkin and one netgear I believe
Eh, I've had....16 APs the last 20 years
3com, hp, hpe, Cisco, Linksys
But I don't think hardwired ethernet is possible with tasmota, but it is with regular Arduino code
I've had a variety of Asus APs over the years, none have failed
The mesh units don't like being told to stick to a channel though 😄
This might be of interest to you @tall socket https://github.com/arendst/Tasmota/issues/8503
Got interested on the topic because that would solve few problems for me as well for being able to PoE
(yes i could do splitters but there's more to the use cases i had in mind)
@coral rivet thanks, will have to read it in a few minutes, need to charge my phone 🙈
basically this board: https://www.olimex.com/Products/IoT/ESP32/ESP32-POE/open-source-hardware
It's not that I'm leaving the subject, just have to leave my phone 😜 I'll be back with you 👌
You'll most likely get better helped out on Tasmota's Discord server: https://discord.gg/X9pjAr7r
So I was setting up a warning system for my network to warn me if critical hardware stopped working. I was going to a Hue light bulb to indicate status, green or red. But it turns out my Hue bulbs are generation 1 ones, and cannot show green in any recognisable way. It just goes white with a little hint of green.
So - What light bulb should I buy, best buck for the money? Zigbee or WiFi is fine, just as long as they work with Home Assistant.
do you need "normal" light too or just HULK GREEN, SUPERMAN RED?
like 2800k-6500k is normal light for me ;D
Nah, normal ones work just fine. You could also read my questions "What bulbs should I buy instead of the stupidly over priced Hue bulbs".

anyone seen something like this?
earlier it was throwing this complaint in my logs, too
2021-03-31 09:17:32 WARNING (MainThread) [homeassistant.components.zha] The 'usb_path' option is deprecated, please remove it from your configuration
so I went ahead and commended that line out

@mighty magnet posted a code wall, it is moved here --> https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/KHrsJ4xByw/
@mighty magnet Rule #6: Spam will not be tolerated, including but not limited to: self-promotion, flooding, text walls (longer than 15 lines) and unapproved bots.
Please take the time now to review all of the rules and references in #rules.
For sharing code or logs use https://paste.ubuntu.com/.
You're managing both flooding and posting codewalls ... please stop @mighty magnet
If you need to post that much, the forum is a better place
sorry - just trying to bring relevant information to a channel that seems more relevant
Well, you didn't read the topic 😉
However, it looks like you have a host problem - related to your install method
If that's a Pi I'd bet on a problem with power
it's a Desktop computer - running HAOS for Intel NUC
as I was directed that was roughly the generic x86/64 version
#330990055533576204 may be a place that can help you troubleshoot why the device is connecting and disconnecting
It's possibly a faulty stick, it's possibly something else - just use a code share site for your masses of log/text
Or, try the forum
well - the same stick was working fine for months and only just started this in the past couple days, when I don't believe I made any changes
so - real quick, what is the issue with what I was posting again?
#rules - rule #6 about both codewalls and flooding
If my entire screen is taken up with one person's posts, given I have a large screen and small text, that's "a bit much"
Also, no posting codewalls 😄
I made a concerted effort to put the relatively few lines of Logs in code blocks to make them easier to move past
I didn't post more than 11 lines of logs/codeblocks at once?
19 lines
And no, splitting things up across multiple posts doesn't mean you get to post more
If you're posting a few dozen lines of text then that's better taken to the forum
ohh so it counts the entire content of the message, even the empty lines
Yes... because nobody cares whether that's one line or code or 16 - it's the total you post that matters
might want to make that significantly clearer
Yeah, I can't fix that
It's been flagged before, but ...
Server admins apparently have better things to do than update those 😄
In other discords for IT Administration I easily get up past 15 lines of text without even having codeblocks or preformatted text -
plus - do you not find it infuriating trying to remember which link goes to what Code block to reference? just one of the messages I posted above would be below, and this is with me switching some of it from multiline blocks that take minimum "3 lines" to "inline code" that can do just one line
https://i.imgur.com/NHVRFmy.png
anyone seen something like this?
earlier it was throwing this complaint in my logs, too
https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/KHrsJ4xByw/
so I went ahead and commended that line out
https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/KHrsJ4xByw/
but even with that line disabled, and Debug Logs enabled, it does seem to find the right USB
https://i.imgur.com/UDOsTWv.png

maybe - I usually find that Forums definitely take SIGNIFICANTLY longer time to get anything done, particularly when you are looking at troubleshooting, which is why I tend to lean toward Discord where I can work much more interactively with people on an issue
just replying in-context - since I cannot locate a feedback, meta, server-discussion or server-suggestions type channel
And... you can reply without sending notification pings 😉
When using Discord's new Reply feature it defaults to pinging the person you reply to, which can get frustrating for the target. Click @ ON to @ OFF to stop this - on the right side of the compose bar.
I made a point to turn it off
Still, your stick is disconnecting and reconnecting, so you have some form of hardware/firmware issue
or - possibly it is a hardware issue with the CC2531 or something similar
you have some form of hardware/firmware issue
That's what I said
Could be the stick, could be the PC
oh - sorry - should I continue trying to troubleshoot here now?
I was working on moving over to a forum post
Given the sheer volume of information, forum post is a better place, but ... you have tried another USB port?
You have tried flashing fresh firmware on the stick?
different USB Port yes, both USB 3.0 and 2.0 since I read some people saw interference from 3.0
Hi all! Does anyone have the new ITEAD ZigBee 3.0 USB dongle working on their RPi install? Integration seems to install fine but cannot locate any devices despite factory resets on the bulbs and my Abode hub picking them up just fine. I dont seem to get any errors in ZHA when I try and find devices. Any ideas team?
I'd start in your install method channel, who can help you see if the stick is found, then move to #zigbee-archived after it's found
@winged knoll Will do, ty!
the device is found, and shows up on Supervisor > System > Host > hardware fine
and shows up in Terminal for the HA Core as /dev/ttyACM0 and /dev/serial/by-id/usb-Texas_Instruments_TI_CC2531_USB_CDC___0X00124B0018E27326-if00

What nucs are you guys running? Anything faster than my rpi4? It's starting to get a little slow when booting
I'm just running on a old desktop PC recycled from work
give it an SSD and it's nice and happy
this is the Intel NUC on a Dell Optiplex Micro w/ a 4GB Ram stick and 40GB SSD drive https://i.imgur.com/L79FPAJ.png https://i.imgur.com/UP9F1hb.png
~22% disk space used (7.7/36GB)
~12% Ram Usage by the Core VM
~2% Ram Usage by Supervisor
Is there a recommended disk size to start with? I'm a bit slim on disk space for VMs on my home server but haven't checked out HA before to really know what kind of disk space it eats up for typical use.
For what install? #449717345808547842 uses <1g, #330990055533576204 probably will need 20g+ and #551864459891703809 will be smallest, not counting the base os of container and core
The advice is a minimum of a 32 GB "drive", to account for the OS, config, software, additional software, log file, database file...
You can get away with less for (limited) testing
hey guys! 🙂
I need a door sensor, can you recommend me one? Is there something proven in HA community?
It can be zigbee or wifi, and would be nice to be battery powered.
HI Guys I have a new sensor that has been 100% accurate on state until yesterday it is a door sensor and is reporting opposite state. So to trouble shoot i have removed it and re added the item on adding it reports correctly then 5 min later it goes to opposite state. Is there any more trouble shooting i can do i have tried open closing the door to try to resync
Aqara Door Sensor
Which integration?
I've never had that happen on Zigbee2mqtt for sure
OK this sounds very weird after removing and adding it 5 times i have noticed when i add it the sensor reports accurate state. But when i rename the entity to my system nomenclature it flips state is this possible i have no other entity with that name
Sonoff Bridge with Tasmota all my other are fine
I know your going to say leave it but i am OCD plus i need to know why changing name of entity would do thi s
Zigbee Home Automation
Then you'd want to be asking about that in the #zigbee-archived channel
You should read the channel topics
Hey, got a sudden issue and I'm not really sure which channel to put in as not too sure where the problem lies, but basely my Sonoff switch has suddenly stopped working (by which I mean the actions that should happen when I press it don't)
it still appears in the Deconz web ui without error messages
It still appears when I vnc into Deconz (initially there was no green line connecting it to the controller but after I hit it's reset switch that appeared)
It is still listed as an entity in HA and it is still reporting it's battery level on my dashboard (81%)
however I have tried listening for events in the dev tab and nothing fires when I press it
deCONZ would be a #zigbee-archived topic
thing is I don't know if there problem is in Deconz, is it with the device itself or with HA's connection 🤷♂️ but I'll try and post there
Hey there,
I have one more question. I need a relay far from the flat. (in the basement.)
Is there something like this? Maybe it's need to be rf cause zigbee or wifi range is not enough.
My idea is:
- have remote control relay from ali.
- then hook up the remote control buttons to a shelly in my apartment.
I feel that this is kind of jerryrigged so maybe you can recommend me something better.
I am the 4th floor, One floor is 5 meter tall.
A lora device is kind of exensive no?
I see.
And can I use a webservice, or I have to have a lora receiver hooked on my ha raspberry
You can get two LoRA boards for $25
And use lora2mqtt via Arduino code
I played with it a while back
Think I actually found out openmqttgateway worked too
so yes, I need an additional lora receiver upstairs? ::)
maybe sigfox would be a better idea.
I see, thanks.
My initial testing yielded 400m range with the reciever indoors
And the sender inside my car
What was the usecase?
Just playing around
But want to monitor the chicken coop in my daughter's kindergarten
2km roughly
and she doesn't have internet there? 😮
i got my test-frient today 🙂 reads the temperature and it seems like i can read smoke and alarm too; but i can't activate the alarm from my dashboard. can you?
would be really dope if someone would open my door and the fire alarm goes bonkers 😄
i mean, that's kind of for the good cause but yeah might be they don't want to share secrets with externals or take unknown stuff to their network..
@coral rivet sure they do, but I want to monitor it via LoRA 🤣
Heh, i also understand that aspect 🙂
no... its a battery powered sensor, you cant really control it since its asleep most of the time
they wake up
but only the one that is next to the fire, or am i wrong? and this one sends "fire fire fire" to all his frients (eheheh)
where did you get that idea?
what idea? they communicate over zigbee
who or what exactly is "they"?
that is why i asked where did you get that idea?
Options for smart switch with no neutral. Don't want to add a hub
Shelly 1L for example, no need for hub or neutral https://shelly.cloud/knowledge-base/devices/shelly-1l/
Perfect thank you. Got one ordered
Whats the best doorbell with camera for ha? Not the most expensive one ofc:)
There is no universal best anything. There's always trade-offs, you need to explain:
- Your priorities/desired features
- Where in the world you are
- Your budget
- Any protocols that you'd prefer (eg Zigbee) or want to avoid (eg Zigbee)
Easy install in ha, camera ofc, working live camera, snapshots of ppl clicking bell button
arlo, eufy, ring should all be compatible with HA to a certain degree
What do u think about ring 2?
Anyone using mi flora devices find the battery life is abysmal?
Down to 72% after 3 days..
Inside or outside?
In
@languid girder integrated how? And how close is the reciever?
Via BTle using the mi flora integration. Right under my Pi just the floor below
Aha, I've only seen users integrating it via esphome or tasmota
Not sure how that'd be different? They're still a BT device?
Yes, but range /proximity, polling intervals might be different
Might change the polling interval actually
Not a bad idea
Think it defaults to every 20m
oh, you cant change the poll
battery levels fluctuate with temperature
What zwave/zigbee dongle do people recommend these days? I see the HUSBZB-1 is pretty widely recommended but sounds like it can be finicky to load drivers, and I'm having no trouble breaking things enough without adding more hardware into the mix 😅
*zwavejs2mqtt
Awesome, thanks!
Question regarding Tuya smart plugs.
I don’t have them flashed or anything but when I disconnect my internet from my router. They still work locally.
I thought you had to flash these to work locally? Is this not the case? Or does it only work for a couple hours before needing to reconnect to the cloud?
if i want to use 4-5 pin of esp module can i use esp 12e/f instead of nodemcu??
esp12 is the module, nodemcu is the board
Sure, but why not use a d1 mini?
instead of d1 mini can i use esp12e
esp 12 e is cheaper than d1
you still need to power it
If your limit is $1 you have bigger issues down the line
hahha
esp12 is not a plug and go
i want many board not a single one
usb ttl will work for my solution
once you pull up and down all the required pins
i will make adapter for esp 12 then it will solve the problem
1-2 pins
might i suggest https://templates.blakadder.com/ESP-M3
i want to make many different projects
esp m3 cost here 2.5 dollar and esp 12e cost is 1.5 dollar
then which one i use?
the one where you don't need to make an adapter to save a 1$ 😉
hy iam facing a problem in my nodemcu
it wont start automatically i have to hard reset it manually then it work unless it didint connect to wifi and when i preset reset switch 3-4 times then it connect to wifi
why this is happening
faulty board, faulty code,... ?
Why not both?
share the code and somebody might be able to help, otherwise its just impossible to pinpoint the issue
Did you ever figure out a solution to your problem of Merkury bulbs showing up as switches? I'm having the same problem whether I use the Tuya integration or the LocalTuya integration.
It's an incompatible issue. You could try tuya-convert.
As long as you didn't update them with tuya.
@ocean acorn thanks -- is there an easy way to tell whether I've go the ESP or Realtek chipset... oh, snap. I did firmware upgrade some of them.
SOL then unless there was an update to tuya convert last I checked.
Ring doorbell 2 is worth any money? I want to connect it to my homeassistant
So since my wyze motion sensors have started dieing, I need to replace them. Anyone recommend a specific motion sensor, maybe with a built in light sensor to use? Preferably wifi, but doesn't have to be, I just don't want to spend hundreds to move to new motion detection devices
code is absolutely fine maybe the board is faulty and i dont know how to repair
throw it away
You'll find more people that know ESPs over in #diy-archived though
never
Is there a typical expectation of disk space HA would need? I figure that can vary a bit depending on device count but not sure what range to expect for getting started.
32 GB is the base minimum
Is that number based on say a rpi setup or VM setup where it's the size of disk with OS and everything else with it?
Well, it's based partially around SD card sizes, and covers the OS and everything else
16 GB is far too small, 32 GB is generally enough for typical small to moderate installs
Got it. Thanks. Not sure if I have a 32 GB card for this pi. I could also go the VM route and just have the option to expand if it ever comes to it.
Well, VM > Pi
I'm not sure if this Pi will even fire up properly so that might be the inevitable anyway
Thanks for the insight.
Looking for advice about a device to buy? Remember to provide guidance on:
- Which country you're in
- What your budget is
- What protocols you prefer (eg Zigbee, WiFi, Z-Wave)
- Any features you want (such as power monitoring, dimming, etc)
homeassistant is my thermostat,
gets temperatures from hue and other sensors and triggers heating valves with a relay board.
Heey guys, is there anyone farmiliar with an UDOO Bolt V8? Can it run HA server aswell as some TV apps like YouTube or Netflix?
Also, can it run 4K60 on both DP/USB-C ports or is there one port limited to 30fps?
I have the WAPIRZ-1 and like you it was working fine until I update to 0.1.15. The motion sensor stopped working. Are you experiencing the same issue. I rolled back to 0.1.14 and it is working fine.
Is there a means to filter integrations to local only? New user with a fresh VM install but no devices... looking to start with some humidity sensors and would prefer local/no cloud but outside of clicking on each one I wasn't sure if there was a way to refine the landscape of the search a bit.
No there is no way to limit the search like that.
I am looking for a weather station, compatible with home assistant. please suggest
I like this one (have the predecessor): https://weatherflow.com/tempest-weather-system/
Are there any zwave/zigbee hubs that aren’t usb based? Thinking like server >> ip/network >> hub >> where the hub can speak zwave/zigbee protocol to zwave/zigbee devices as opposed to server >> usb >> zwave/zigbee devices? Or did I basically describe google home/hubitat/etc? Now that I write that out I feel like that’s what I just did.
Hm. Is there anything you know of that supports zwave as well? Be cool if there was.
I don't, but #zwave-archived might - of course, your country matters for Z-Wave, so be sure to tell them
Is zigbee US only or a more universal frequency?
Zigbee is (mostly) universal - 2.4 GHz like WiFi and Bluetooth
(which is why you have to be careful with your choice of Zigbee channel)
Anyone has an RCBO or MCB on homeAssistant? Can't seem to find a zigbee device. Most are Wifi. Not sure I can tasmotise it.
Question regarding #outdoor #rgb # lighting
I am building a limestone seating wall around my curved patio that will be approx. 30ft long. I would light o add lighting under the lips of the seating wall cap. I am working with with the stone mason to plan the running of wires and where to put j-boxes for connections and controllers. I need to source the lighting equipment that will work with HA.
I am looking for suggestions of HA controllable systems.
Well, do you want the whole thing to be a single colour, or are you looking for something that you can do lighting effects with?
RGB
Right, but one colour at a time or fancy things?
fancy
Individually addressable then
WLED
https://github.com/Aircoookie/WLED and https://discord.gg/KuqP7NE for their Discord
24V LEDs are likely what you're after, to get a decent run between inject points
What do you think the max length would be per run?
As long as you want, you just need to inject power
It is a factor of the voltage, and the number of LEDs
I actually haven't seen 24v ws281x before
30 LED/m will use less power per meter than 144 LED/m
I should order some
What about these being outdoor?
You just need weatherproof strips
Have a look at the links above
OK thanks
One other thing.. the wall will be around 30 ft from where I plan on connection to 120v to a DC transformer. I was thinking of running higher dc voltage that can be stepped down
(Low voltage outdoor is new to me) I am thinking along the lines of network POE logic
Well, you want to run as high a voltage as you can, as far as you can, to reduce losses
Are there stepdown devices to where I will need to connect to the WLED strips?
Well, you'll need a 3.3V (from memory) supply for the controller, and either 24V (ideally) or 12V for the LEDs
There's no shortage of things for that
I am not electronics expert, especially since this stuff will be in an outdoor setting, Definitely looking for an off the shelf solution. Can you point me to a source?
https://github.com/Aircoookie/WLED/wiki/Learning-the-ropes has a stack of good guides
For off the shelf addressable... no idea
Thaks that link will keep me busy
You could do clear plastic tubes to make anything water proof
I like the idea of clear tubes, especially if they can be bent to match the curve of my call
any sources?
Where in the world are you?
👀
is there any clever way to turn a dumb RFID reader (acts like a USB keyboard) into a tag reader for HA? still waiting for an arduino reader kit, but USB would be easier in some spots.
#tags-archived might know, the gimmicks of NFC tags got boring around 2015 for me 🤣
derp, didn't even spot that channel.
i'm thinking embed a tag reader under the siding of my garage and use a RFID ring (or implant) to open it
could also use a yubikey with NFC
Interesting use case actually, but exposed NFC readers outside, heck any outdoor lock exposed is a no-no for me atleast
I have two rules, no indoor cameras, no smart locks
Just like my digital presence it should be at least 2fa to enter
(best regards a heavy yubikey born again security lover)
🤣
https://www.netatmo.com/en-gb/security/doorlock is one that looks interesting - "keys" with additional smart features
it'd be hidden, so the average person wouldn't know to look for vulnerabilities 🙂
man I've clearly been out of the VMware game for too long... compared to what familiarity I have with HyperV anyway. Stood up ESXi 6.7 on a spare rig and dropped the HA OVA on top. That part worked fine but some VMware specifics and my lack of familiarity with it have me questioning if I should just bare metal HA, particularly since any other VMs I'd run wouldn't be on here but on my HyperV rig instead.
not sure what I get out of VMware with a single HA VM on it and nothing else as opposed to just bare metal and have it run that way
Heey guys, does anyone know/can find an article why there are no 4096x2160 screens with a size below 13.3 inch?
probably because the pixels get impossibly small and that resolution isn't very popular?
Is there a way to delegate commands to another device in the network? For instance, I have a bluetooth lamp that I can control from HA but the Pi that it runs on is not near enough. I would like to delegate those control commands to another Pi that I have hanging right next to that lamp instead...
So how does that translate to pixels per square inch? Cause (I don't believe so) if there are 4096x2160 pixels per square inch, it should be possible to make like, a 7 inch 4K tablet. Right?
Home assistant server on Android phone.
Good idea or no?
I came across one post showing that it could be done.
Has anyone tried it?
@pallid lotus running an ESXi host host for the ha VM... Seems excessive, just run Debian and #449717345808547842
@tepid sable horrible idea
@fringe moon thanks. I already got the nuc image running on bare metal though. It seems pretty okay so far.

pretty happy with it thus far 🙂
What would you suggest?
I saw a youtube video suggesting that a raspberry pi might be underpowered...
and that a laptop with a virtual machine would be ideal.
But a laptop seems exessive to me and I don't want to be stuck with an underpowered device if I use a raspberry pi.
Laptop or minicomputer from the last 10 years not running an atom CPU
With Debian and docker
Or if you already have a NAS supporting docker, that will also work fine
But is that much horse power needed just to drive a few toggles?
I want it to be fast (I heard the pi can be slow)
But since I would be buying a new device I would want it to be cost effective as well.
A raspberry pi 4 with an SSD would be the minimum, but I would never recommend it, and at that price you can get a lot more
Older NUC is popular
Lots of small computers on AliExpress
You wouldn't recommend it because its slow?
Yes, and unscalable
Some users say "only ha" but then they run #330990055533576204 and run 25 seperate pieces of software before they know it
Unscalable in what sense?
Is there a limit to the number of devices you can add because of the processing power.
I didn't really understand your last comment...
Are you talking about HA plugins?
Add-ons yes
I intend to purchase a separate device which I want to wall mount and have it running all the time
Unscalable = you can't add memory / change CPU / add additional IO with ease
so wont be running anything else other than ha on it
I see
Thanks
I currently run HA on a 4core/12GB mini itx boxi
It's being moved to a 24core /128G host soon
But I also run 10-15 other docker containers on each of those hosts
Plus more
What do you run on so many docker containers?
Stuff other than home assistant?
Cool.. 🙂
Saved as inspiration for things to add to my kubernetes cluster running HA 🙂
Any suggestions of a thermostat that works with HA under 100$?
Depending on what you need it to do, it can probably be #diy-archived for $5
Only the basic things like turn on/off the heat and adjust the temperature, but i also want to have a screen in order for my girlfriend to control it manually
Then that all depends on how the device operates
put a little oled screen and two buttons on it. then completely ignore what gets shown on the screen and keep the temperature the way you want it.
Hello my google home tells me the temperature of my mqtt sensor but also that the sensor is offline
What i need to set to get in online
Mqtt availability?
I don't have a topic on my pthon serial to mqtt script
can I disable the cloud on lifx and trust that's not phoning home and still use it with home assistant?
https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/lifx/ is
IoT class: Local Polling
You'd need firewall rules, or something like AdGuard/PiHole to block the DNS
yeah
I personally have unifi but im making a recommendation
and hue is $$$ pricey
But general Zigbee isn't 😄
Questions about a hardware device (not their #integrations-archived with HA, and not the thing that HA calls devices)? Someone might have the same device and be able to help you out! If you've got a Z-Wave or Zigbee devices, see #zwave-archived and #zigbee-archived, #cameras-archived for cameras, and #diy-archived for making your own stuff.

Okay thx. Will do
Hi, I recently changed from the legacy Z Wave to Z Wave JS using the Z-Wave JS to MQTT add-on. I have two Leviton Decora switches. One is just a switch and the other is a dimmer. When I include one it adds in, but when I add the other they both go into a dead state. I then exclude and add include in the other order where the first gets included and second causes both to go into a dead state. I tried including both over the network and via with my AEON Zstick manually. Same results.
Anyone seen something like this and how to get around it?
You'd want to head over to the #zwave-archived channel and ask there
Ah, thanks
Hi everyone! I'm migrating from Xiaomi Home to HA, everything migrated really smooth, except door bell. I feel myself disoriented, since it turns out Aqara Hub is not HA friendly, so there is no device to play sound and blink with light when button on door bell is pressed. Any recommendations with such hardware?
I'm new to HA, so please excuse if question is naive.
Has anyone ever been able to get an eve Aqua integrated? Preferably without the eve extend? Use mostly HomeKit integration anyway but would like to keep my automations within HA
If you have a apple tv in reach you can leave out the extend. eve aqua is BT. have the extend though and it works nicely in HA
this might also work, not tried

Ok is there a guide to this? Or once I connect it to HomeKit HA will pick it up automatically?
you use a homekit controller #integrations-archived

Ah that makes sense, thanks
@lapis flame maybe an idea to only use the screen modules if there are parts for it on Aliexpress or something. And maybe put 2 screens against eachtother. Not sure.
I was also thinking about a mini 4K touchscreen projector (like a mini sized smartboard). Do one of you have any ideas on what the best option is?
or is it possible to buy a Sony Xperia Z5 screen module and somehow get rid of the bezzles.
@quick mountain I doubt you could be sure it’s not phoning home without firewall rules. This is a general IOT problem.
hi new here and not sure how this works , but having issues finding my usb devices ie #/dev/ttyS0 #/dev/ttyACM0 ,zigbee or zwave , looked into host and logs ,unplugging shows nothing and acm0 isnt there ?
See your install method channel - they can help you there @median willow

Hi
I'm looking for an alarm siren that I can turn off and on (f.e. with a 433mhz gateway an on and off command, but zigbee or wlan is also possible)
Does anyone have a hint for a specific hardware typ?

I've got a dedicated i7 laptop running Supervised on Ubuntu. Using OZW beta I've suddenly had nothing but issues with MQTT (after being stable for months). Since I am on an unsupported install, I figured it time to do it right. Is HassOS my best option for a dedicated host device like a laptop?
HAOS in a VM, or Debian + Container (and no supervisor)
Ah in a VM. Can't bare metal it?
Not HAOS, no
Okay thank you.
I've not had issues with supervsied for years. Maybe I'll just try and troubleshoot zwave instead
Well, you may want to simply move to Z-WaveJS
I had read about issues with locks. Maybe I did not read enough about it.
I have a light switch that only has two wires coming from the light. Can I use the Shelly 1L.
Their website says no netral required. As long as those two wires are hot and ground, I'd say yes.

So, I want to make a water level sensor with esp32, what is the way to go?

Really? I see many Zemismart things on the supported list
One of the Aliexpress images has a product number
That product number is on the Z2M list
If I search that number I only find a 2 gang switch
I think the picture of Ali is not the real back of the switch
Well, there's also one there that has an front image that matches
I've found that anything that's a re-label of Tuya is a nightmare to track down with confidence, since it often is in a new case, or has new product IDs, or both
Thank you !!

Yeah, that picture matches nicely 🤞
hey there,
Next topic what I I am digging into.
I am looking for a smart wall plug. (so not a socket, but the thing what goes between them) It can be zigbee or wifi
What I can find is that on the expensive side there is shelly with cloud stuff, (Which as a HA user don't really need or want cause better to keep these stuff local) and the other side there is ikea tradfi for like half a price.
What kind of additonal bennefits can a shelly plug has? I know like energy monitoring could be one thing but thats all?
@midnight ibex More flexibility with local intelligence with Shelly, and they can do MQTT. Can't think of anything in particular that a Shelly can do that you can't do with HA. Maybe if you flash one with ESPHome????
The useful thing about ZigBee sockets is that they act as repeaters.
What is your use case?
About to flash a zzh cc2652R is there any way to verify that its rom bootloader mode after i did the BSL button procedure?
#zigbee-archived would be the place to ask, but if you can flash, it's in the right mode
great thanks
I have a Aqara smart EU plug and an Ikea gateway. On a raspberry I'm running home assistant. I managed to pair the plug to my Ikea gateway but it shows up as a lamp in HA. Is it possible to get the power consumption data from it somehow with my setup?
Would appreciate any help. I got two of these for 5USD would be a shame if I couldn't use them.
#zigbee-archived will know
Dont really have one, just toying around.
Maybe a turn on plants growing lights, measure powerconsuption on some devices, popup when the washing machine is finished. Integrate lights to homekit. These are the few things what came in to my mind.
Shelly is just about all wifi devices so might want to take that into account. The factory firmware is pretty great and gets updates often, built-in mqtt client. Most of them are supposed to be stuck inside the wall, their smart socket is pretty pricy but i suppose those certifications and stuff make it higher. Also the power measuring is much better than with some random china plugs (like one i have claims we have 212 V while its 230 V for real)
I have become obsessed with actuators.
Does anyone have any fun projects using 12v linear actuators? Or similar motors
make a garage including garage door for your robot vacuum
Need to hunt down few actuators for crafting door/window automation to chicken coops, that ain't no fun project per se
I gonna get one and share you my experiences.
Please do, these questions keep popping up almost daily and nobody has experience on all devices
The DHT22 sensor is rather a pain on a RPI4 with HA in a container. There is an error on the device update from a Runtime Error:Unknown Platform. Can anyone help? Am I in the right place? Thanks
Question. I have 8 wall/ceiling mounted speakers in my home. Are there any home stereos that are smart such that you can control their inputs like radio, aux, whatever and select speaker channels on and off? I'm not coming up with much searching around but my Google-fu is pretty weak.
Maybe I should do this with a few sonos devices...
anybody have one of these? https://www.amazon.com/Delicacy-Projector-Bluetooth-Rotating-Decoration/dp/B07WVPNTKF
@torn spoke Marantz/ Denon integrate very well with HA. The Marantz NR 1200 is almost unique in its capabilities and can drive two zones with its own amps and also output to a separate power amp. Marantz/ Denon also have HEOS which is a multi-room solution.
Thank you!!
Denon was huge in the 90s, together with NAD, but haven't seen either in years
I see marantz now and then, but usually classic versions
@fringe moon Have a look at the NAD website: https://nadelectronics.com/ ... A lot of very cool stuff
Indeed, stuff has happened 😄
Most of the people I knew who were NAD people moved on to ElectroCompaniet and then Abrahamsen

I finally have my HA Blue and had a chance to start it. However it never gets past " Preparing Home Assistant". After about 30 minutes I unplugged it and reconnected the power. I can as before see it in the router and get to it with “http://homeassistant.local:8123”.
Anyone have any idea on what I should do now? Is there a way to login to it by the command line without ssh?
Please help if you can as I would really like to use it.
I clicked on the blue circle in the “Preparing Home Assistant” window and found this:

I apologize for not doing the post correctly. I think I did it right over in homeassistant_os. Thanks for you help.
any suggestion to have a water leak sensor to use with home assistant? I saw xiaomi but I guess I have to find a way to get zigbee on my computer, and other suggestions?

Zigbee isn't hard, though you do have to ensure you build the mesh
I'm not against zigbee even if I never used it, so I would have to learn it, but I'm curious if there any better solution
Well, if you answer those four questions, maybe somebody can help 😉
France, budget: no real constraints I just want simple, protocol: no real constraints I just want simple, features: I want to detect the water on the floor and I don't know if I mentioned it but I wish to simple solution
simple would be on battery that can last few years, it would be great
That's pretty much ticked the Zigbee box...
There is also a Shelly WiFi device. I've not used it but you can Google around. In general Shelly devices are well supported, easy to integrate and flexible.

thanks
I have this, tested to work, was pretty much plug'n'play as most Zigbee devices, just pair. Many alternative options but can't test them all (nor need that much 🙂 ): https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002200022376.html
I have these Heimans (zigbee): https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000136474999.html - tested to work (with smoke of course, alert was receveived by HA), was easy to pair, dunno what else to say, looks more "modern" than those usual round plastic boxes
@coral rivet how long last the battery (for the water sensor)? what did you buy to get the zigbee messages in home assistant? zigbee to usb dongle? did you have to install some software on top of that?
Does anyone know of a rf device/integration? I have a hampton bay fan with a built-in remote, it's the only way to control the fan, and I would love to be able to control this via HomeAssistant, any ideas?
I would go with a ESP32, and use MQTT on the ESP32 to control it with home assistant
How does that hook in to control the fan/light?
either you can use a relay to control the power, or if there is a remote control, you can try to plug the ESP32 to remote control.
I've done that with a shutter. I wired my arduino to the remote control, directly to the buttons. And my arduino sends the 3.3V (or the GND, I don't remember) like the button would do.
either you can use a relay to control the power, or if there is a remote control, you can try to plug the ESP32 to remote control.
Oh, wasn't look to actually be soldering things...lol
or if there is a remote control with IR, then you can record the IR signal and play it again with an arduino
I think it's rf, but I will have to double check
my shutter remote control is with some random RF, so I did it without trying to understand the RF signal, but I did some soldering, and I blocked a remote control for that
Yeah it's rf... Hmmm. Maybe I just need to replace the fan and buy a smart fan :)
No idea yet, its pretty fresh device. Now that you mention it, i should probably make some remarks when devices have been put online... Purchase link was one i used, for zigbee i use zzh usb stick and zigbee2mqtt is the add-on
Anyone have a recommendation for a smart lock for a door?

For anyone that has an ecobee thermostat, can you configure it to run the fan for x time on demand? I.e. let's say I wanted to run just the fan for 12 hours
unfortunately not. fan_min_on_time is the only control you have
you can game it and set it to 0 or 60, though, and kinda regain manual control
dang, usually I set it to like 8 hours each night when I head to bed. Currently have a nest thermostat and it works easily, but really considering moving to ecobee due to how locked down nest is trying to make their api
like I said, if you set fan_min_on_time to 0 or 60, you can basically do what you want
it's just a hack
you can do it locally on the thermostate, so I'll grant that it's annoying that you can do it remotely
yeah, so basically integrate into HA, then write an automation that sets the value in a loop for x duration?
you don't need to do that
just use ecobee.set_fan_min_on_time to set it to 60 if you want the fan on all the time
no looping
it's per hour, and it tries to spread out on the "on time", but if you tell it "60", it means "all the time
I don't want to manually turn it off though. Want it to turn off once I'm up. So the 8 hour window is usually pretty awesome. Set it and forget it 😛
Yeah, so basically I have to write another automation, either via motion or something else that sets it to 0 when I'm up
whatever indicates that, yes
"min" is more useful when you want it on all the time, though. it doesn't help as much when you want to limit the amount of time the fan is on because it may decide to run it more often than you'd like. It's not a "max"
anyway, that's the amount of control you have with Ecobee
have you tried nest as well? If so, do you like the nest (regardless of API limits) or the ecobee "better"? I know it's kinda a loaded question
I used Nest for a while and find Ecobee to much, much better
The whole Nest "learning" thing never worked for me
Ecobee with remote sensors is fantastic
appreciate the info! I'm really torn, because I really like the dial on my nest (I use it surprisingly a lot) and like how small it is, but ecobee from a technical standpoint seems to be superior
I wish they made an ecobee 4 light. Don't really need the intercom or alexa stuff. I'd go with the 3 but it doesn't support HRVs 😦
yeah, I have the 3 and have no interest in upgrading
if you do go Ecobee, keep in mind that their servers suck and often lose connectivity. You can use HomeKit (with no other Apple stuff) to control them locally, but you lose the ecobee-specific functionality in the integration. you can do some stuff, but not all
I have my 2 thermostats added in both ways, so I get sensor reports and program control through Homekit, but fan_min_on_time through the native integration
Sorta a weird question - if a chest freezer's motor burns out, does the power draw drop to near-zero? I figure if a fuse blows, it would go to zero too. Want to wire up a "freezer broke" alarm
Has anyone here managed to configure smart lights with a rebound switch so if the power goes on and off on the light it toggles its status?
I. E. Enable people to use a rebound light switch to turn lights on and off without actually cutting power?
I believe you'd need a hard wired smart switch with a neutral wire...
What kind though
Look for a device that can be used in detached mode, like the Shelly 1
Sorry I'm just a bit confused though, are you saying the Shelly will be able to identify the switch toggle then send the appropriate command?
It will leave the light powered (smart light, I assume?) and send a message to HA to enable you to automate the light.
Ah I see, is the shelly 1 legal in Australia?
Funnily enough I am just reading an article you commented on talking about the shelly devices but I'm not to the end of it yet lol
Yeah I saw a link to them but the website appears down
Oikotec also sell them
Does anybody knows which USB Bluetooth Adapters are supported by HA Blue? Is there a page where is this documented?
#330990055533576204 would be able to help there
@winged knoll thx
Oops. I just sent him back here. Deleted.

Hi guys, I just bought a LAUNCHXL-CC1352P-2, in the specifications of the page indicates that it supports Bluetooth Low Energy and Zigbee protocols.
In Zigbee and Zigbee2mqtt goes perfect, but my doubt comes in if I have understood well if you have Bluetooth because I'm trying through HACS configure a thermometer Xiaomi Mijia Bluetooth 2 and do not know how to do it or if you can because I do not know how to configure it.
Do you know if it is possible with this coordinator is it possible to configure it to receive bluetooth signal?
Thankss
So what does the bluetooth protocol refer to?
It's capable of it, but the firmware decides what it does - and you've got Zigbee firmware on it
Just like I'm technically capable of speaking German, but my language firmware is only for English 😛
so it would be for the developers to release a specific one to support the 2 protocols together?
What "radio" mean
The bit that creates the Bluetooth, or Zigbee, or ... other signal
Sure, there's a few million of those out there
Your options will largely depend on your install method
I'm currently running a dedicated version of hassio on the raspberry pi 1b, but my intention is to move to 4 with Docker when I get used to HA.
bluetooth usb may be incompatible
Well, Home Assistant OS may have limited support, don't know. For everything else the CSR 4.0 USB dongle should work fine
thank you very much for the advice, the pity is that surely that the board to be more modern has not been made firmware to support the 2 protocols, maybe in the future ....
Sorry last question...Do you think an esp32 would be better than a usb bluetooth or does the usb have more signal power?
That's like asking whether you're better to buy a Honda or a Toyota... there's a lot more to the choice than just that
The ESP would be better if the device is beyond range of the HA host
A Bluetooth dongle is probably simpler
For compatibility on different OS and change of firmware.
The ESP may give you other options
The Bluetooth dongle may be easier to get working
That's true, the truth is that I get very complicated at times.
@twin prairie When using Discord's new Reply feature it defaults to pinging the person you reply to, which can get frustrating for the target. Click @ ON to @ OFF to stop this - on the right side of the compose bar.
Both will likely work, depending on many other variables
Thanks again!!!👍 👍 💯
Somehow i recently got this error message, it's popping up everytime i restart my HA. It came from nowhere, i haven't done anything since this came up. Can someone help me solve what's causing this? I get it's somehow related to the theme
Always run the configuration check command when you make changes. Don't trust the UI check - it misses some problems.
"Command completed successfully"
Well, then you need to dig deeper, but it's not a hardware problem
alright, sorry
evening dude's question i have a Beninca Control unit that is going to control 2 motors to open and close a gate
is it easy to hook it up to the wifi with like some tasmota relay thingie ?

Hi all, I'm looking into some door sensors for Home Assistant. I've seen a few suggestions for Wyze (dated 2019) and Aqara (dated 2020) are these still recommended or are there other cheap kits with good integration?

Morning! Any tips on UK smart plugs with power monitoring that can be flashed with esphome?
a ton of tuya plugs for sure
I heard on the podcast that Tuya has stopped them from being flashable.. is that right?
OTA yes
and if they run tuyas own chips
but they are usually drop in replacable with esps
but I have yet to recieve a tuya device with a new chip
I just crack them open and flash them via serial
Thanks!
I ordered some tuya plugs two three months back
they were still flashable via tuya-convert OTA though
so if they are old stock, they will be easy
Wohoo! Got the Home Assistant Blue today. It's beautiful!
Should I just rip off the bandaid and just order a damn zzh? Tired of fighting with this stupid conbee 2
Yes
I just wish that it was stocked somewhere in north america, oh well
Already pulled the trigger 😄

Hey there,
I need a hardware recommandtion:
- It needs to controll a light
- It needs to be capable to commonicate with HA. Mqtt is also fine. It can be wifi or zigbee.
- It will be controlled with a switch
- It will be controlled from HA some cases
- And the tricky part: It needs to be controlled from something like this:
https://hu.rs-online.com/web/p/fotoelektromos-erzekelok/1254541/
This is an optogate, which is high when something is between them. - Needs some dc output for powering this sensor. (This conrete example is up to 24V but it can be 5V also)
I was thinking about a shelly, But I am not sure if 2.5 does have galvanic separation on the switches.
hi im running hassio now on a vm on my old laptop, do you guys recommend getting a container runtime? is that more power efficient?
if you don't have addons, why not go #449717345808547842 ?
and if you have - you can replace them with their respective original docker containers
above all:
Hass.io was the old name for the appliance like install option, that uses Docker. It was renamed in January 2020 and is now called Home Assistant OS (see #330990055533576204).
the downsides just being that its harder to manage and update etc?
takes more effort than pressing 2 buttons, and for my 4 addons
fair haha
Even better, you can update just one
And if it breaks, you can roll back
Or...click
ill look into it haha, vm makes it annoying to manage from my desktop so that would be ideal, just access it through smb
if by smb you mean ssh...
no smb haha so i can easily write the yamls
none of that is hardware though 😄
yeah i know, but i suck at networking haha
Then use sshfs in vscode
btw whats the best way to migrate an existing home assistant setup to one other
just backups?
If you’re moving from a supervised install to something else, just copy the config dir. but this all belongs in the appropriate install method channel
oki
this is no #hardware-archived question, again
New here. Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but here goes:
Iv been searching for ESPhome flashable (using serial) RGBW (preferably dual channel W) bulbs for a few days now and just cant seem to find any that arent:
- Pricy
- Available
- Impossible to take apart
anyone know of any resonably priced, flashable ones?
Sadly all the great bulbs are cloud based.
anyone have any experienve with automated block out blinds?
I'm trying to figure out if something like what I want even exists
Is this the right place to ask about a zwave keypad I'm trying to get working?

blinds which you can control from the left and right just don't seem like a things that ecists
@heady hedge first video i watched, useless to me
lights mentioned arent available & barely any other decent ones either.
iv searched far & wide.
I've got a few Aqara magnet sensors that drains the CR1632 battery pretty fast. Couldn't you solder wires for tripple A instead?
Door sensors?
Exactly.
I have one in my door to see if my lock is physically locked or not. And it's probably not the best for range etc. But if i could just add tripple A batteries to it it's cheaper to recharge them than to replace the CR1632 all the time.
The CR1632 is 3V so it should work.
Yeah i have 4-5 as well and it's the one in the door i have to change all the time
All of mine are on doors
Yeah mine is in the door frame.
That are opened 8-25 times a day each
If you batteries are draining faster than 2 years you have a problem somewhere
I know...
