Yeah that is where I got half of this sonoff gear and it hasn't shown up at all, in 3 days I will be getting refunded for it not showing up but all my other Aliexpress stuff showed up fine π
Just need a reliable humidity sensor as we have a damp issue in our home so I utilise automation to help with it.
I appreciate the suggestion thank you.
I've had mine in for a year or so now, and they've been solid - no issues
Oh even better!
Let me see if I can find the store I used for my purchase (I'm also in the UK)
Oh that is above and beyond the call of duty good sir I much appreciate that! Thank you very much.
Do I need a hub or dongle with them?
You need a dongle - and your choice of #zigbee-archived integration
Really it's a choice between ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT depending on whether you want it embedded in HA (ZHA) or separate (Zigbee2MQTT)
do you mind me asking how you have them setup?
They support slightly different stick ranges, though there's overlap. Just don't buy the CC2531 or CC2530 sticks - they're cheap for a reason π
I run Zigbee2MQTT, as I like having things separate
So do you have a dongle sorry? I've not done a great deal with zigbee and HA
I do, I have a Zig-a-Zig-Ah!
They're out of stock right now, but the seller usually gets them back up for sale regularly.
If you go down the ZHA route then any EmberZNet stick will do the job well
Sorry to be hounding you with loads of questions haha, what is the range like on it?
So, Zigbee is a mesh network, range comes from the mains powered devices
That said, I get about 10 to 12 meters line of site at best
Some devices that are nearer aren't in direct communication because RF is "fun"
Yeah I knew about the mesh but didn't know only mains devices helped with the mesh! That is usefull to know.
It's the same with Z-Wave
Battery powered devices are "end devices", they can't route traffic
No
If people had the ability to do that then most meshes would be broken because clueless people believe they know better than the engineers
:))
It's bad enough that people can pick a node to pair a device through rather than letting the mesh sort it out itself
well..this is freedom
Right legend I will be checking out these sticks and items! Much appreciated @winged knoll - Will let you know how I get on!
hey guys - u can add the chrome cast audio to ha and also use ha as a spotify connect device....
is it possible to use ha as spotify connect device and ha cast the musik to all chrome cast audio as a multiroom solution or can ha as spotify connect device can only play music on itself?
Please read the channel topic π
didnt get it sorry...
What didn't you get?
At the top of the window is the topic, click it and it expands π
It says
Questions about a hardware device (not their #integrations-archived with HA...
oh dear...okay...i only opend the pinned message...
π€£
ups...so, wrong channel π
Anybody have any drape/curtain controllers (drapes go side to side, shutters/shades/blinds go up down) they like? Don't care about Zigbee vs zwave, I have both. Would prefer not wifi.
Hello. I have devices that were discovered through zigbee2mqtt and end up with a name like 0x00158d00024a405b. I can not figure a way of changing that name to something more friendly. Can that be done ?
thanks
Are there any video doorbells with HA support?
Hello
How can I make devices added in hassio visible from google home ? (e.g., some tasmota devices)
are there any sonoff light switch like devices where the switch is physical? i am in love with them, however i dislike the touch screens
You'd need to use the google_assistant or cloud #integrations-archived
@pastel briar there are some in China stores, "wifi push button switch" search brings some options to start with
https://www.banggood.com/Geekcreit-1-or-2-or-3-Gang-WiFi-Smart-Light-Switch-Push-Button-Smart-Life-or-Tuya-APP-Remote-Control-Works-with-Alexa-Google-Home-for-Voice-Control-p-1536383.html - looks just about same, i haven't tried flashing, just had few links and searches stored as those were a bit hard to find in the middle of all that other RF switch
thanks, the price is different here though
i'll go with the first one cause im cheap like that lol
ikea buttons are reliable and cheap
Hello
Is there a good Smart Ceiling Fan out there?
USA
Budget: IDK, 300?
Requirements: It just works... Fan Control, Light Control (Dimmable with states)
I am exhausted with spending dozens of hours to finally hack together a solution which doesn't work.
Or is the best solution to get something like the Lutron Light/Fan Dimmer and an old dumb fan with separate light/fan wiring?
But you need a fan with seperate light and fan control for most of the inovelli stuff right?
i don't think their latest controller cares
how does it not care?
check the manual for the wiring diagram
Yerp... thems the breaks. You need a fan that has seperate Light / Fan load lines. Which mine doesnt. π¦
sometimes you can swap out the included controller for yours
meaning the one that ships with the fan with the one from the inovelli kit
I am following, ill dig around in my fan. But I think mine is integrated... so it might require digging a bit deep
thanks for the insights, I appreciate it.
I've rarely seen fans that don't offer both options
You might need to find the installation manual for it though. I know hunter Douglass has the option for both
This fan seems to only have 2 wires coming in, with an integrated controller
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Aire-a-Minka-Group-Design-Sky-Parlor-56-in-Integrated-LED-Indoor-Burnished-Nickel-Ceiling-Fan-with-Light-04613/309970294
Which is unfortunately the one I bought 5 of.
and is an amazing fan, but sucks hard when it comes to automation
might need to crack into the case to see the controller
I think so too
there's already a separate light kit for that so all the wires you need will definitely exist
dont toy with my emotions like this... you are making it sound not hopeless.
They're 3 wire because they come with RF remotes
At least based off the manual. And DC motor so the inovelli controller won't work with it
they'll have a controller that does what that inovelli one would do
hmm
missed that, yeah dc motor might be a problem
yup AC only
https://support.inovelli.com/portal/en/kb/articles/inovelli-wiring-diagrams-ceiling-fan-light-switch
Do we have other options?
probably not without hacking in to it further
Watch for AMP needed by ceiling light/fan, Iβm finding it difficult to find a solution for my Emerson unit since my discontinued Lutron solution stopped working this past summer. Canβt go forward till amp increase solution is supported.
Yeah, taking this thing apart it looks like power comes in and passes through a EMI filter, and then go es into what I can only presume to be an AC/DC converter.
The light power looks like it comes out the other side, and then feeds back down through to the housing on the underside
I was hoping that I'd get lucky
Any other ideas? Cuz it seems like we're back to all new fans, or no smarting
Using a switch to trigger the bond to trigger the lights is like a 3-second round trip. And that's just way too long
not that i can think of unless you wanna trace signal paths on the controller to jump with an external controller
You're saying to really rip this thing apart and modify the board?
Yeah, that's not happening. I just don't have the time and the patience to deal with something like that right now. I'd much rather spend money than time at this point.
It sounds fun, and 6 months from now, maybe.
The fan section of the automation is phenomenal
It's just getting the lights to work.
Would it be possible to have the lights always on, and a Shelly dimmer wired into the DC LEDs? Powered by the 120 v AC coming into the fan?
That's a 20-minute hack job I could do
I could then leave the DC fan on the bond controller, because the few second delay to turn on a fan means nothing.
might work
I have zero experience with a Shelley, and don't know if that's actually the correct item to use. Do you have a good dimmer controller that you think works?
Alright, I'll pose that question there then, thanks for the convo... All of you that assisted.
Could use some smart relays like the fibaro ones and put them in line to fan & motor maybe
so odd question. I have a smart plug on my external garage light, and it shows up twice in GH, once as a light (configured in HA yaml) and then also as a switch, and I'm not sure how to remove one or the other as when I ask GA to turn on the light it is "turning on" both lights
The answer is to only expose one of those through your #integrations-archived
What's a good dimmer controller for AC to AC that can be purchased in the US quickly? (No neutral)
I know Shelly is a pretty popular brand, but it'll take me a couple weeks to get one it seems.
Hi guys, i use some zigbee sensors (Xiaomi Multi Sensor) over deCONZin Homeassistant and now i see that the temperature is correct, but the history shows an wrong/no value.
That'd be for #zigbee-archived or #integrations-archived (for recorder) - see the channel topic at the top of the window π
If you have issues with all entities, see #integrations-archived
If you have issues with just those, see #zigbee-archived
oh ok thanks
Hey Tinkerer!
I am about to pick up some Aqara contact sensors after our discussion.
Do they make quality temp/humidity ones as well?
sorry... I knew they made temp / humidity. My focus on that question was quality
They work fine for me, the folks in #zigbee-archived can tell you more about their experiences
What are your other favorite zigbee2mqtt devices?
(I have a free pass from the wife to just add sensors everywhere)
I guess I can ask that in #zigbee-archived since it is directly related to them
Of the ones I'm happy with - Mijia Light sensor, temperature/humidity sensor, door/window sensor
The motion sensor is meh
Innoveli red don't need neutral and work with LED when most others dont. They're zwave. Otherwise lutron caseta don't need neutrals either and most home improvement stores carry them
Hello
I just received this MoesGo WiFi switch https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B08B6F7KSL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
I was able to configure it through the app and connect it to my wifi
I was then hoping that some integration/addon would allow for a smooth discovery of the device but that does not seem to exist
am I doing something wrong ?
So, this is now working using the tuya app (which is something I would have prefered to avoid not have to rely on the internet
what is strange is that : if I click on or off from hassio, then it does turn the switch on or off, however when I switch from the device itself (by pushing the button), it does not update the status in hassio
hey guys could anyone help me with something in yaml?
i am creating a couple of new binary sensors, through yaml:
ffmpeg_noise and ffmpeg_motion
now, they both show up in HA as entities, but i would really like to have them show as DEVICE.
example, show 1 device called "Reolink camera" and then in the device page show both sensors.
also: how to i assign a YAML created entity to a area (entry hall)?
There's one official Tuya #integrations-archived and possible a few unofficial ones, the folks in that channel could help further
You should read the channel topics π
Questions about #integrations-archived belong in #integrations-archived
it doesn't matter where i post my questions, i will always be sent to a different channel.
the amount of channels and the description is way to confusing
i'll head over there. thx
hello all. I have a Philio Motion Sensor (PSP05). I know someone here once gave me advice to change the values of this so that it sends binary values (I believe it was 7: Customer Function). I lost the note .. can someone help out?
I believe it may be 7 to 22
Sounds like it's a #zwave-archived device?
yes indeed. I thought device might be more appropriate
You should read the channel topics π
anyone have experience using extron switchers over their network interface?
Thanks
Can you do anything useful with the Intel Neural Compute Stick 2 in HA?
Was thinking it might be useful in setting up motion/presence detection kinda thing but curious if anyone else had experience with it.
Hello! I'm looking for good indoor camera with RTSP support. Now I have YI 1080p but the quality of video is poor and i Look for other. Any suggest ?
Anybody have any drape/curtain controllers (drapes go side to side, shutters/shades/blinds go up down) they like? Don't care about Zigbee vs zwave, I have both. Would prefer not wifi.
hey guys. I have an issue getting my nest up and running. I was able to get evrything connected and verified/linked, but it is not showing me any devices or entities. Where do I start looking for the issue here?
wyze cam 2 with the RTSP firmware would probably work
i used to have dumb dimming switches, leviton 6674, that worked without issue. i tried to change to a smart switch (GE Enbrighten) and there's now a lot of flickering in the 50%-90% brightness, has anyone had a similar problem?
should I just try different smart switches until I find some that work well with my lightbulbs?
sounds like cheap bulbs
cheap bulbs can handle dumb dimmers but not smart ones?
depends on the mechanics of the dimmers
are there any dimmers less likely to have this problem?
Β―_(γ)_/Β―
lol alright thanks
flickering is typically a bulb thing though
yeah, was just hoping to avoid switching bulbs
this is also only a problem at high brightness (it's totally ok at low brightness or fully on) which I thought was odd
For my fellow Aussies, do you recommend Shelly for in wall light controllers
Key requirements are:
- legal
- no neutral wire needed
- prefer wifi but zigbee is okay
- local polling
- friendly integration
Shelly's seem to hit all those boxes
Guys, do you know if there is a possibility to downgrade the firmware in Xiaomi Bedside Lamp II? Because I updated it and now i can't enable LAN Control in Yeelight app, so I can't add it to HA :<
hey guys what are good camera's to integrate with home assistant?
#cameras-archived can tell you more, but do provide the information in the pinned message here π
get a wyzecam and install the RTSP. https://wyzelabs.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360026245231-Wyze-Cam-RTSP
Sounds great no Delay?
Hi guys! I need to buy some sensor to work with my Philips Hue. What devices do you recommend nowadays for a movement sensors, humidity/temperature sensors and Open/Close doors? With the philips Hue obviously....
I had a look at the aqara, Trafi, Sonoff... but can not find one that works with the Hue and is good
I try to put tasmota firmware in SONOFF RE5V1C. This PCB has ESP8285 onboard. Bought a CH340G USB to serial adapter, installed driver successfully. Downloaded latest Tasmotizer and started application. Pushed reset button on RE5V1C, power the PCB by 5VDC and released after 1 second, this should put the PCB in programming mode. Started Tasmotizer but after 0,5 minute get error: Failed to connect to ESP8266, Timed out waiting for packet header. I'm sure TX and RX between PCB and USB to Serial are inversed and USB to serial is put to 3V3. Any idea why I cannot succeed?
Hi, I've been reading the documentation on https://www.home-assistant.io/faq/unique_id and I'm a bit confused.
If a device does not have a unique ID can I manually set one or not? The integration I'm using is pretty useless if I can't control it via the UI or an automation...
@little schooner just move to something else than the HUE hub and your possibilities are limitless
Check the topic at #zigbee-archived
I Just buy xiafang 1s, thanks!
Hi - does anybody have experience with the sonoff diy mode - especially the sonoff mini r2
I put the device into diy mode connected it to a wlan network with the ssid "sonoffDiy" and the pw "20170618sn"
I can ping it
and I can do rest post requests
but the diy tool cannot find it
its currently flashing twice and then its pausing for a moment and then its flashing twice again
any ideas?
somebody saw anywhere a gx53 to e27 converter?
has anyone used a tile to track a device to see if it has left the home? I am looking to do this with my cat.
I would like an alert if the cat leaves home... and this to be integrated into HA
I have a nut mini bt tracker attached to the collar of each cat for presence detection. The alert/notification would then be done in an automation.
It's not 100% reliable (sometimes they read as away while home for a short period) but with some tweaking it could be better
Having some issues with getting my partner's phone to move away from home in HA.
She's just gone for a walk yet her phone is still pinging as home, I've checked geolocation on the HA app and all permissions are set, but not sure why she's not "leaving" in HA
It seems to be reporting battery accurately
Hi all, I have a question. I have climate device in my home, it has wifi on the board but wifi works as end-point, that mean i need to be connected there. Is there any way to connect my rasp (with wifi onboard) to that device and make some rest call?
Well, that's not really for this channel (read the topic π )
You probably want to ask about that in either #android-archived or #ios_and_mac-archived
Thanks for the feedback. I am checking them out now. I assume you use this vs Tile because it integrates to HA in a better way?
some recommendation for ceiling light ?
Read the pinned messages
There's one pinned message
It has some things you should tell people
but what has to do with my q?
ceiling light....
π
no zigbee
no zwave
no dyi
so...
oh... i got it...light is not hardware device π π
u know that i love you
but maybe if u refer to troubleshoot already owned devices and purchasing in another channel...maybe can be better named
And it still wasn't that
then whatelse?
really?
trying to keep Tinkererβs blood pressure down. Itβs Friday π€£
Eh, I'm just walking away from this trainwreck...
Ok, let me see if I can help
Yes, really. There is a set of question in the pinned messages that if you answer, it makes it easier for people to help you.
i want to buy a ceiling light...and wondered what lights are using folks around here
I use a standard 60 watt bulb. Does that help you?
I hope it's LED
π€«. I am trying to prove a point π€£
very nice
and you use plugged or u let it on the table ?
Hello i want to ask if there is a solution for home assistant to know when i wake up in the morning and i am off bed
@topaz wadi pressure sensor
I use my alarm going off, coupled with a door sensor
I used to use my phone or tablet being unplugged
Do you know a good one to suggest?
IMO load cells (pressure sensors) are the perfect solution, but take more work
not ready-to-work but in #diy-archived channel maybe u can find better reference
Thanks
well...plenty of ceiling today
Hello, Best device to run whole home assistant system is......?
is what u know to manage
@cursive palm whatever suits you, that has a proper storage system and that you regularly take backups of
My raspberry pi is very slow
try virtualisation on a better hardware
Raspberry pis are good, for elementary school coding projects
Hi @fringe moon ... I dont understand why you are saying that as the Philips HUE is on Zigbee... Are you saying I should also get another bridge?
@little schooner no, one platform to run any zigbee device on
Like zigbee2mqtt or zha
I plugged in my conbeeii, and have added 3 xiaomi sensors via the Phoscon APP in deCONZ. How do i view these sensors in my devices? It seems like the only place I see them are in the deconz App
#zigbee-archived can help further, but they should show in
-> States
Thanks I'll ask there, and also check
Hey, im new to this flashing thing and a bit confused.
So ive bought a https://www.velleman.eu/products/view/?id=441224 but it only has 5v out ? but i can change between 3.3 and 5v on a switch, do i just use the 5v out pin ? Im flashing a sonoff zigbee bridge
Mostly because they're cheap and small. I didn't know about the Tiles, I guess they would integrate in a similar way.
I use a standard bluetooth USB stick to track them
Cool. Thatβs what I was thinking of doing. Just checking for the Mac and alerting me if they were not detected.
Is that what u did?
Hi folks, I have a question about aliasing or renaming sensors. I have a CurrentCost power monitoring sensor, which I have been tracking via USB-Serial piped through xml2json into mosquitto_pub. Now I have constructed a custom sensor based on ESPHome, which will report at a different entity. So my question is now how do I link the historical values from the MQTT sensor to the new values coming in from the ESPHome-based sensor?
Yep, however I did not use any of the existing bt tracker integrations as I found them lacking at the time (may have improved since). I wrote my own instead, based on python-dbus
Just realized I never published the code, I may do so soon
a simple ceiling light for 10-20 square meters ? i see yeelight, but in docs are some versions that i cannot find in shops. for kitchen and a small hall needed. dimming and ha integration is a must
I use IKEA tradfri for most of my lights
I have two yeelight I ordered from AliExpress, they are ok, but I don't need RGB
new Lidl lights also do the job
no soldering or anything like that?
zigbee lights
we had 3 months some silvercrest in lidl but only for a week
ikea tradfri as simple bulbs
for kitchen purposes need at least 1000 lumen
@fringe moon what version u bought ?
wanted whole thing..not just bulb...
but i will search there
hope i can mate with ha
someone of you already integrated a blood pressure monitor into HA?
Withings seems to be a vialable option but meh.. that service seems to be a typical "the cloud strikes back" product
hello guys, I have zigbee lights and I'm looking for a way to program my switches to turn on/off without cutting power to them
right now there are 2 options that work perfectly for my scenario that I know of a. shelly switches b. lifx wifi switches
any advice?
You need:
- Zigbee switches
- Switches that don't cut the power to the bulb
- Zigbee switches (and lights) that support _Binding) or to use automations in HA
Mostly instead of switches you'll want remotes that are just buttons
remotes/buttons would work great if I had the option of covering my existing light switches or just wiring them to be on all the time
Then you need (1) and (2)
I have this one: https://zigbee.blakadder.com/3A_HGZB-44.html
supply the switches with power, leave the power to the lights untouched.
I was trying to figure out how to make the switch turn the light on or off without touching the power
You have to ensure they don't power the light π
@gentle fossil I'd love to do that but I have to legally have my lights connected to a switch that goes on or off, so I can't wire them to be on all the time and put a switch on top
Well, the only option to have smart bulbs + switches is to have the bulb always powered, and don't use the switch
wait what? theres legality in play?
Pretty sure that's been said a lot already
yep, no way around that
yeah unfortunately Australia 'code' is the worst in the world
@winged knoll it's what I am trying to avoid, since I'd like to retain use of the switches physically when needed
Sucks to be you π
fuse box = switch. done π
I guess I will go with these
they do what I want
I just wanted zigbee + a cheaper option
Some smart switches have the option of not toggling the power when the switch itself is used
You just have to research, I know that many Z-Wave ones offer it, but I don't know about Zigbee
I hope the lifx will integrate with HA well
You can find out by searching the integrations list π
I saw some z-wave options, there's only 2 legal I found and it's even more costly than the lifx option
this whole convo makes no sense to me π
yeah I will just look into that, I know the lifx bulbs can be integrated but the switches only appear to exist in Australia at this point?
https://community.home-assistant.io/t/lifx-smart-switch/254430/6
this looks promising, but that was my plan c, $180 x 15
π’
I wish I lived in a less backwards country, Australia sucks for technology
can you believe we aren't legally allowed to touch anything electrical except changing bulbs
Eh, some rules, not not allowing folks to wire lights directly to the supply, make a lot of sense
well in Australia the only legal thing is changing a light bulb, you can't even replace a light switch plate (that pops off and snaps back on) legally
I'm a complete newb, and I'm just starting to investigate the world of "smart". Looking at this PDF https://zmonkey.org/blog/files/Home Assistant 2018 v1.0.pdf linked from the HA Help page, it looks like HA will work with just about any hardware out there. Is it recommended to pick a tech and stick with it (for example pick zigbee products and nothing else), or can one easily & freely mix and match brands/techs without concern because HA ties them all together?
Well, don't take some third party's post about it, have a look at https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations and see for yourself π
You can however mostly mix and match to suit
I have a mix of Zigbee and Z-Wave, along with various other things
Practically speaking, pick one of Zigbee or Z-Wave so you only have to build one mesh, not two, with all the cost and faff that comes with that
That does make sense. What caused you to pick the "other", presuming you'd started with one?
and I wanted you to know I'd at least read something... π
We have multi-bulb fixtures (ceiling fans) in almost all our rooms. It makes sense to me to start with a smart switch that I can use to turn lights on/dim/off for all the (dimmable) LEDs in the fan. Would that be the most logical way of starting? I'd like to consider, at some point, changing to color change bulbs, so I can go with a warmer 2700k light before dawn/after dusk, but a nice cold 5000k daylight during the day. Would it still make sense to start with switches for that scenario?
IMO smart switch > smart bulb
Though, if you get smart dimmers, you can buy dumb bulbs that get warmer as they dim... https://www.lighting.philips.co.uk/consumer/choose-a-bulb/warmglow
I started with Z-Wave, since Z-Wave devices can control each other. So my Z-Wave remote could directly control a Z-Wave socket, no HA required. Then I added some awesome door sensors that vanish into the uPVC frame (https://sensative.com/sensors/strips-zwave/guard/).
Z-Wave is expensive though, so when it came time to 20+ windows, and various other sensors, I decided it was more cost effective to go with Zigbee - with sensors costing in the Β£10 and below range, not the Β£35 and above range π
It depends on your use case though, if you need individually controlled lights (e.g. you want to dim the light on top of the TV but keep the others bright sometimes) then smart bulbs are necessary (or it would require rewiring the bulbs).
https://tasmota.github.io/docs/Buttons-and-Switches/#detach-switches-based-on
Anyone have experience with SetOption114 1 on Tasmota firmware? from what I am reading it will make all the buttons relay detached but is there a way to do this per switch instead? is this the right channel
There is a Tasmota Discord π
ohh alrighty thanks
So I just got a HS210 kit for 3 way smart switches, and It looks like it wants me to log in to use these. Is this going to be a problem?
Thanks for the input. Appreciated! There are some places where I know I've got neutral at the switch (because I wired them), others where I'm not sure because it's an old house and I don't know what's behind the switch, so smart bulb may be necessary (at least for now).
That definitely makes a lot of sense. Thanks.
Possibly dumb question. What kind of range could one expect out of a zigbee hub? Is it reasonable to assume that if the hub is located close to the WiFi router, I'll get the same kind of reception from it?
hi friends - a
a bit of a noob w/ HA, anyone have inovelli fan and light switches on HA w/ JS ?
Rookie enough to not be certain. Can anyone tell me if these bulbs https://www.amazon.com/Sengled-Dimmable-2700K-6500K-Equivalent-Required/dp/B08KZPDK1J will work with a Zigbee hub? It doesn't explicitly say so, but it's got compatibility with a lot of other systems that other explicitly zigbee compatible bulbs also say they'll work with.
That seems like a really good price for a fair number of lumens and dimable and changeable color temp.
Amazon questions and reviews seem to indicate that it'll work with zigbee. Going to take the plunge on some bulbs for the kitchen where they can still be controlled by the light switch for additional WAF.
Quick question i am going to buy the sonoff zigbee products. Do i have to buy also the Sonoff Bridge or can i connect them directly to the Echo dot and use it as the bridge? Also am i goinf to be able to control them in Home Assistant?
I've just enabled the netgear device_tracker, and all is good - I figured out which devices were our family cell phones and have everyone successfully configured with their own phone.
Unfortunately, on the History listing, it shows all the devices, including a bunch of laptop & desktop machines that I don't want to use for location tracking and they clutter up the view:
(and now I can't paste a picture here...?)
Anyway, I tried adding a devices: line to my configuration.yaml file in the device_tracker: section for the netgear device. I can get it to accept one phone via MAC address, but I haven't been able to figure out how to get it to accept multiple MACs.
I've tried: devices: MAC1 MAC2 MAC3 and devices: MAC1,MAC2,MAC3 and even multiple devices: MACx lines, but it only accepts the last one when I try that. What is the appropriate delimiter to put in there to get it to only include multiple devices?
Ah! Figured it out! by chance I was looking at a different instruction page that showed a list - each MAC address on its own line preceded by - (space dash space)
ugh... I think I made a mistake. Has anyone used Ecosmart Smart bulbs with Conbee2?
I cant get Conbee2 using ZHA to find the Ecosmart
Sounds like #zigbee-archived @thin pasture
Not if you connect them to the Echo dot. If you want HA to use them then use one of the supported #zigbee-archived integrations (deCONZ, ZHA, Zigbee2MQTT) with a Zigbee stick they support.
Thank you
LOL, thanks...
Okay... I have to take back my Ecosmart lights because I could not connect them with my Conbee 2. What direction should I go? thinking Sengled (Zigbee) or Wiz. Thoughts? I dont use the Conbee 2 for anything else at this point.
ZigBee 4 lyfe, but with Zigbee2mqtt and a proper ti coordinator
I have two WiFi bulbs, the rest of the 60+ are zigbee
I have a ConBee 2 stick on order. What things should I consider when deciding between deCONZ, ZHA & Zigbee2MQTT when choosing which integration to install?
Hello, just wondering if there is support for this smart plug in HA: https://www.amazon.ca/Compatible-TECKIN-Monitoring-Function-Required/dp/B07CZFDLXC/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2NQRMPS0L4HP1&dchild=1&keywords=smart+plug+energy+monitoring&qid=1614528532&sprefix=smart+plug+ene%2Caps%2C202&sr=8-5 If not, can anyone suggest a reasonably priced smart plug that supports energy monitoring? Cheers!
See the #zigbee-archived channel π
ah, my bad. I'll wonder off.
Hello, when i plug or unplug some devices (ex zigbee hub) from raspberry pi i must shut down HA?
Depends entirely on what that is, and whether HA uses it
Generally speak, it'd be a good idea π
quick question regarding QuinLed Digi-Quad. When you power on your boards, does the "ON" LED on Mini32 lit up?
Hi, I got a Logisty alarm, it got this terminal https://ibb.co/Xs8HyY2 firsts works when it is ON/OFF and second one when alarm trigger, how can I itegrate it to my HA? I was thinking to an esp01 or nodemcu with tasmota or esphome. What do you think?
Anyone have suggestions on affordable door/window sensors and motion sensors? I have a hzusb, but only zigbee devices currently. I've been looking into some 433hz sensors, but have no experience with them and would need a receiver. I would like to buy maybe a dozen or so of each.
I have 2 routers so far and the signal seems to be pretty stable. Is aliexpress the best place for them?
I do Ali for everything
does the latest home assistant work with garage door openers
I have a gocontrol one. I see it paired in the zwave controller and I can control it there
Best sensor recommendations?
but I don't get any cover entities in the home assistant device list
err, entity list
Can you program the entity into the Lovelace UI?
I too am looking for sensors. What do you mean about routers? Just nodes/repeaters? Does Aqara call theirs routers?
I had to program mine manually using the button entity, I pulled the entity Iβd straight from the zigbee integration page
no.
there are no cover. entities at all
If you go to configuration/integrations/zigbee/entities itβs not in there?
Hmm, ok did you whoops my bad I misread
but that's the equivalent naviagation.
Is it under devices?
yes
that screenshot might be helpful
I have three garage door devices
they have plenty of sensors
but no cover entities
here are the three devices https://snipboard.io/bI2qSX.jpg
Why are there three?? Are they each different garage doors?
yeah
three controllers
that part is correct.
here is all the entities for one of them
What does it look like when you open the entity from the device page
Which entity?
here is one of them https://snipboard.io/KOrkx6.jpg
they are all sensors of one kind or another
no cover entity
which I think is the entity I'm expecting for the actual door control
Oh ok, which one is supposed to control the door?
I'm using two IKEA tradfri signal repeaters and they work just fine with my aqara sensors. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/tradfri-signal-repeater-30400407/
example: https://snipboard.io/uIC0al.jpg
Thx
"Target Barrier State" can be used to control the door
but only in the z-wave js control panel
fwiw, garage door control is only 19 days old in z-wave js
/maybe the home assistant integration doesn't support them yet
?
ah indeed. 17 days ago some constants were added
Ahh ok so there is no entity under the device page specifically for controlling the door? Only for the other parts of the sensor
yes, that's correct.
Oh I see, so I would so your probably right then
15 days ago support added https://github.com/home-assistant/core/pull/46379
Yeah I just figured that out, youβre teaching me stuff right now haha. I think that this one might be over my head, sorry man.
Hi all, I'm trying to install the Insteon integration on a raspberry pi server. This is my first USB device and I'm not sure where to find the USB Path for the PowerLink modem. Does anyone have experience with Insteon that can tell me how to find my path? I'm guessing it will be something like /dev/whatever
I have a question about the workday binary sensor. π
i'm looking to buy a Humidistat that will work with HA, any suggestions?
Idk if thatβs the right room for this
But whatβs the best way to do room-based presence detection
?
Best is to track activity, not people's phones
So, motion sensors, states of media players, maybe even load cells under chairs
I never thought of load cells.....I was thinking about if I had a guest staying at the house ... not do anything w/ their lights
For that, just have a guest mode toggle
I was thinking that originally or doing both
I have a toggle, but also automations that can control it based on the presence, or absence, of specific device trackers
Anyone have advice on some outdoor flood lights that are either HA compatible or can be flashed with Tasmota or WLED?
Sorry looking for RGB. Can be bulbs or whole devices.
OK, I'm a bit excited and a bit confused. I just received my ConBee II. It says to follow the instructions at https://phoscon.de/en/conbee2/install for installation. Is that all necessary (Setting USB access rights, etc) or do I plug it in and install (deCONZ, ZHA or Z2M) and they do all the work?
Or do I install the integration first then plug in the stick & let it detect?
And do I need to do anything special to have the USB stick detected by HA in a docker container?
Are you running Home Assistant os? Then plug in the stick and install the adding afterwards
*addon
Ok Iβm not very familiar with docker, in Home Assistant OS everything works out of the box.
I guess you need to install it via docker and configure the integration after that.
The integration does not distinguish how or where deCONZ is running
You may need to mount the USB device in the docker container
if HA does not see it automatically
Are you sure? I thought mounting is for file systems only
@queen reef likely it's just a matter of plug it in and HA sees it? Then install the integration.
No, the deCONZ integration is for the rest api of the software deCONZ. There is no integration for the ConBee stick
Does Docker normally have access to usb drives mounted in the host?
in my limited experience you have to allow that
or somehow allow the docker access to that device
The ConBee stick has no filesystem and can not be mounted
If the drive is mounted to the server, and the mapping is created in the docker compose, then yet, the docker will have access. However, I'm not sure about a device
Looks like #449717345808547842 may be a better bet for me. (so many channels!)
yeah being a device is the tricky part there
You can see in the instructions how to map the /dev/ device to the docker container. For questions how to install deCONZ I would recommend the deCONZ discord
philips hue or yeelight for ceiling light in kitchen ?
hi
can anyone here recommend a good smart door lock? every damn review i read on amazon has questionable negatives
is it just idiotfest situation or is there truly no reliable one out there?
I would recommend none

But that is only as someone who has worked with security for a decade
why security? neighbours are wellcomed :))
hmmm why u dont recommend?
the amazon reviews are legit and they all have some kinda flaw?
all i want is something reliable dont care about fancy fingerprint features or crap
just something reliable that connects to HA
u read something 100% with positive reviews ever??
LOL good point
I don't trust my perimiter with fickle technology
sure...leave us your pin
I use double deadbolt and a regular lock
very sexy π
what about smart lock with cameras and backup systems?
u clearly like HA in some capacity ha!
Smart locks are fine as long as you have a non standard manual override and that electronic/code is diy.
non standard manual override and trained by a select few if the electronics fail.
Redundancy is key. π
indoor cameras are a naturally trickier subject. IF they're to be installed, should never be in bedrooms bathrooms or general living spaces, should only ever face exits.
Again, camera and code built / written by you (as you can never be sure about vendor units).
indoor cams are otherwise a no.
Then again, for the sake of redundancy, you can have cameras everywhere and power switches for all of them, to activate them only when not at home or better yet on vacation for a few days.
Anyone have any tips on integrating the wiz bulbs with HA?
what brand and model number?
Not sure, but I can give you them in about fifteen minutes. Got them from Costco, rgb recessed light style
I did a quick search on the tasmota database if flashing them is something youre up for. the db is here. https://templates.blakadder.com
Only 2 results, one was from Great Value and one from WiZ. but neither are recessed. Chances are it's a Tuya bulb. I have "Globe LED" from costco, they're tuya.
I'm looking at 2 workarounds (addons) myself as my costco bulbs are non flashable. they involve blocking internet access from the bulbs. It's work but they both have merit.
localtuya: https://github.com/rospogrigio/localtuya and
tuyagateway: https://github.com/TradeFace/tuyagateway
If anyone has experience with either of these, please chime in, I'm curious as I haven't had an opportunity running them. π
These are wizconnected br30
Interesting. Not entirely sure how comfy I am flashing them, I'm sure there isn't a usb port inside the bulb right? Gotta do some sort of serial push?
if they're flashable, theyre is yes, either serial (pins), but also ota.
Do they look anything like these but flashable? https://www.amazon.com/WiZ-Whites-connected-Dimmable-Compatible/dp/B074P3XS42
but rgb*
π
Yup! Exactly like those
this is the page. the notes state its' serial flashable, but with caveats that are less than desirable.
if you wanted to use the tuya integration, it's possible and you won't have to flash nor run a gateway and block their internet, but imo, home assistant is also an effort to keep your devices out of someone else's cloud.
π
I'm looking at the gateways because I was nieve and bought a bunch of updated devices, I can't flash them and illicit total control over them.
Argh...
I have most everything out of the cloud myself. ST for a few zigbee devices until I buy a stick...
If you dont' want to flash them, and I get it, you could try one of the gateways. π
I'll look into it, appreciate the help! Curious if there's another way to do it. I just realized they don't work quite right on my zwave dimmer switches either
Need to swap that out with an on/off switch
Your welcome. π hope that and the switches work out for you. π
I'm looking to create workday binary sensors, 1 for each day of the week. π
I'm completely lost on this though.
Anyone have an idea? π
Or is this the wrong channel for this?
I'm not sure what you mean by workday binary sensors... =S
I DID find a workaround fwiw. there's a wizconnected integration with smartthings. You can create a light group, and then a couple of automations to flick the light switch on or off
That's awesome! I'm glad they're working for you.
workday binary sensors: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/workday
I thought I'd post a question of my own
π
Anyone have a recommended supplier for WS2815 LED strips? Tons of vendors on AliExpress so it's a bit challenging to find just one. @ me if responding please β€οΈ
@worthy dirge That sensor doesn't work as 1 for each day of the week, it's a single sensor, and it's either on or off if the current day is a workday or not, it's aware enough to know about hollidays, weekends, and custom days it should be off
the configurations are right there on the page you linked
thank you.
My goal is probably simpler than I'm making it.
I'm trying to build an automation with Sundays as a condition. π
but I have no idea how. maybe I'm not looking in the right place.
Yeah, that's not the right place π the workday sensor will not work reliably for that
a simple way of doing that would be a template
{{ now().weekday() == 6 }} <-- this will check for a sunday
put it as a template based trigger in an automation and it will only run on sunday
Thank you. I also found this when I was looking over the conditions doc again.
"condition:
- condition: time
weekday:- sun"
Would this work too?
{{ now().weekday() == 6 }} I'm sorry, how would i go about building a template based trigger? π
Yes, that would work too
alias: Is it sunday?
description: Is it sunday?
mode: single
trigger:
- platform: time
at: '09:00:00'
condition:
- condition: template
value_template: '{{ now().weekday() == 6 }}'
action:
- type: turn_on
device_id: 93b57cd8e8954f489ee4be713cfd603f
entity_id: light.hallways_light
domain: light
Here's an automation using a template for sunday
it'll turn on the hallway lights on at 9 am only on sundays
you can also replace the condition with the time one you found, in that case this :
description: Is it sunday?
mode: single
trigger:
- platform: time
at: '09:00:00'
condition:
- condition: time
weekday:
- sun
action:
- type: turn_on
device_id: 93b57cd8e8954f489ee4be713cfd603f
entity_id: light.hallways_light
domain: light
any recommendations on good local motion sensors?
At one point I was a huge advocate for Wyze Sense because of the cheap price, but that quickly went downhill. I now use mostly Zigbee for local motion sensors. I have a mixture of Aqara/Xiaomi, IKEA Tradfri, and Philips Hue motions sensors.
Guys, I bought a switchbot and didn't want to get another hub for it (mostly because I'm dumb), but I can now control my switchbot with an api call on my home network
and I already have the button in my dashboard
SwitchBot switches are natively supported in the core: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/switchbot/
that implies that my server has a bluetooth dongle installed
and also that its close enough to where the switchbot is going to be deployed
You're absolutely correct, it does.
thats part of why I bought the switchbot
How'd you go about integrating it?
I modified this script for python3 to be hardcoded instead of using argparse: https://github.com/OpenWonderLabs/python-host, then call that script with flask
so a raspi running flask to connect to the switichbot and then just the rest_command in my config.yaml
Nice, glad to see you found a way to get it working in your installation. Which model of Raspberry Pi are you running the flask server on?
also any recommendations on door sensors? Ideally ones like the SmartThings Multipurpose sensors that give additional useful information π
obviously the first improvement I should make is to accept the mac address of the switchbot I want to control in the API server, and then send that in my configuration.yaml in home-assistant, but for now I only have one switchbot
If you're familiar with MQTT, here's another implementation that might require less overhead and setup: https://github.com/fphammerle/switchbot-mqtt
mqtt would probably be more elegant lol
Guys is any way to add virtual devices (like Switch, Light) in HA to controll modules using http requests?
That'd be #integrations-archived and yes - search the Integrations list on the web site for RESTful
The channel topics are worth a read too π
Hi. I have added a apple TV and given it a static ip but home assistant keeps discovering the same apple TV. Anyone familiar to the problem?
That'd be for #integrations-archived - have a read of the channel topics π
Oh, sorry π
damn, I have 2 of these: https://templates.blakadder.com/magichome_A5F-37A3-03.html and I have to toss them out
anyone have 100W equivalent bulbs (rgbw) that they like? the one recommended here is OOS https://templates.blakadder.com/athom_LB01-15W-E27.html
Does anyone have any recommendations for weather stations that integrate with MQTT? I'll be using it at work, but want to tie it into some automations.
I'm not sure if this belongs in devices or not, but I have a 'person' (my child) and he has no phone, so no 'device' to track if he is 'home' or 'away'. I am a single parent, and have my son 50-50. I want to run sunrise automations in his room to get him out of bed on days when he is in the house. I have a calendar integration that can check if he is in the home using a custody calendar, but the 'person' entity doesn't accept a service call to update the 'home' or 'away' status that I can tell. It seems to need a device tracker. Can I create a custom device tracker that I can use to update his home and away status?
Why not just use an input_boolean #integrations-archived ?
You could even use an MQTT device tracker, and associate that with the person
Hi, I have 4 wardrobes linked together with one led string running through all. I would like to activate the led string when any wardrobe door was opened using pir detectors. Is it possbile to like all 4 detectors to one Node mcu to activate the string. Or could the be a better way?
I'll def check the mqtt device tracker. I was using an input_bool before, but i like the picture with the 'person' entity, and it seemed the 'proper' way to set it up.. since.. he is a person after all π
Kids are people? π€
π
https://github.com/DubhAd/Home-AssistantConfig/blob/live/scripts/people/person1/person1_home.yaml#L7,L11 is how I do exactly that - and obviously one for not_home
oh nice. Pretty much perfect
I'm going to guess that this is the right place for this one... I just discovered that my home-assistant.log is filling up with this: 2021-03-02 13:25:08 WARNING (SyncWorker_3) [pynetgear] Unexpected entry: [''] (for various SyncWorker_x).
What does that mean and pointers on how to fix it?
it started almost 24 hours ago, has repeated roughly every 12 seconds and was interrupted only by this:
2021-03-01 16:12:25 WARNING (SyncWorker_5) [zeroconf] Error sending through socket 11 Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/local/lib/python3.8/site-packages/zeroconf/__init__.py", line 2952, in send bytes_sent = s.sendto(packet, 0, (real_addr, port)) OSError: [Errno 126] No error information
Did you read the channel topic @karmic cargo π
so i enabled bluetooth device tracking. now i have a ton of device.tracker.ble_# devices. i dont see them in the core.entity_registry file, and cannot delete them from devices in the UI
i also have a ton of devices from netgear component.
is there a way to purge all of those out?
I am building DIY BLE temperature/humidity sensors, is there a generic BLE GATT-based sensor for environment services?
Hi, been trying to figure out the best RGB light bulb for local network home assistant stuff, I've played around with meross and tuya bulbs and am planning to work on getting the tuya-convert and the meross to MQTT stuff, is there any other types of bulbs that could be recommended, is there any way hass os could be used as a zigbee hub for example?
I'm pretty new to this stuff and I've only just noticed there was a discord server
oh there's zigbee2mqtt, oooo
not sure where this question belongs, I have a sonoff sv with a distance measuring sensor for the garage door (when the distance is x it's closed, when it's y it's open, when it's increasing it's closing when it's decreasing it's opening) what's the best way to go about representing this in ha?
thanks
so the value seems to drift around a little, 760 <> 2800 would be fairly safely closed and opened but may be as low as 740 or high as 2860, what math functions do templates have to restrict that range? ($pos-760)/(2800-760)*100 would be the math but that could result in > 100% or less than 0%
or does HA not care and just treats > 100 as 100?
You have to constrain it between 0 and 100 (both included) or HA will throw an error. Have a look at the min and max template filters
You could do something like this:
{% set value = 150 %} {{ [([0, value] | max), 100] | min }}
Looking for recommendations for a good DIY Home Security setup that works with Home Assistant. Looking to do some door and window sensors but want them to be reliable. Just looking for recommendations and direction to start researching.
Konnected comes up a lot
I thought that one was used to take existing home security system and integrate
I wish when I had built the home I would have had alarm wires run to each window and door but that did not happen
So starting from scratch
I am testing out the Sonoff ZIgbee Bridge (flashed with Tasmoto) and waiting on some connected devices to help with the mesh, but not happy that devices keep coming up as unavailable
Having trouble finding an easy way to automate my gas fireplace...none of the info online seems to pertain to my type of fireplace...has anyone set this type of thing up and could give me some insight?
I am sure I just need to be patient and see if the mesh helps reduce the unavailable thing from happening
That Zbridge isn't that great, there's been many complaints about it in #zigbee-archived
Hi, i'm looking at various ESP8266 boards for the first time. My question is, is there any small power source (battery) modules or attachments that can be fitted? Or must these boards be connected over USB to get power?
Hey, I'm trying to use the bluetooth_le_tracker but in the history of the discovered devices everything says "away", even tough they were discovered and still present... Anyone able to help me with this? / Familiar problem?
You could use a powerbank. Or you can create your own little USB powerbank with batteries. I saw some good tutorials for that on Youtube.
Easiest path is to use a 'shield' for whatever assembled chip you've chosen. ie. The Wemos D1 can use this shield on top to manage a LiPo battery. There are many similar parts out there for different form factors too.
https://www.amazon.ca/CANADUINO-WEMOS-Lithium-Battery-Shield/dp/B07CQRYVJC
@storm lantern sorry sound unintelligent here, but would that shield would be a conduit between a LiPo battery and the D1 board, but also provide the ability to plug in the USB to a computer at the same time?
Dunno about same time. That would depend on the actual boards designs.
Gotta read the manuals. π
i just watched a video. I get it now. lol
I see the WeMos looks like one of the smallest and cheapest ESP8266 boards. This looks ideal (i think): https://www.amazon.co.uk/AZDelivery-D1-Mini-Development-Compatible/dp/B01N9RXGHY/ref=dp_prsubs_1?pd_rd_i=B01N9RXGHY&psc=1
However given the fact I've just researched powering it by LiPo battery via a "shield" is the recommendation. I noticed the recommended LiPo battery is a 3.7V 2000mAh battery.
The WeMos D1 board linked above says "3.3V 500mA Compatible" in the title. Does anyone know if using a 3.7V 2000mAh battery will cause any problems?
anybody have recommendations for a good zwave/zigbee siren? π
Can anyone suggest an accurate and preferably an inexpensive air quality (pm2.5) monitor that works with HA?
or maybe something that can be plugged to the pi
I'm having trouble getting (2) Merkury Innovations MI-BW210-999W bulbs to show up in my Tuya integration. They are the newer bulbs that do not use the ESP chip and cannot be flashed to Tasmota. Both bulbs work as expected from my phone with the Tuya app but don't show up as entities or devices in HA. Thanks in advance.
Hi i'm looking for a good zigbee remote that has multiple channels and works with zigbee2mqtt. Does anyone have a good suggestion that works for you?
Worth asking over in #zigbee-archived since you know you want Zigbee
i'll try there!
Not sure if this is the right channel, but got a question about SD card.
Is this Lexar 633x UHS-I card (100 MBps read, 45 MBps) a good option for Hass OS on a RPi 3b?
https://www.lexar.com/portfolio_page/high-performance-633x-microsdhcmicrosdxc-uhs-i-cards/
thanks @winged knoll
Industrial if you can, otherwise ones designed for Dashcams or security cameras are likely a good choice. I'm happy with my WD Purple SD cards (so far)
Yeah I think I found a post on the forums suggesting SLC flash type cards
Are there any channels focused on ESP8266 devices or similar? I'm looking a recommended place to purchase a small batch of 5 boards or so for the best price. Any recommendations?
Thanks @winged knoll
What sort of resource usage does hassio take? I can either run it alongside my Jellyfin setup on an rpi4 2gb or I can run it on an rpi b+ v1.2, I don't want to slow the Jellyfin setup down.
Hass.io was the old name for the appliance like install option, that uses Docker. It is now simply called Home Assistant OS (see #330990055533576204).
You can run it on a Pi3 and above
The amount of resources it takes... that depends on what you do with it
Then, for that, your Pi4 should be fine - but you can't run Home Assistant OS and Jellyfin on the same Pi
You could run #449717345808547842 though
My experience is that "pure" HA runs on a Pi3 at less than 25% load with a moderately complex setup. A simple one will vanish into the noise
Im new to Home Assistant! What is a good Raspberry Pi you can get to use this? I do have some different kinds of products, around 15 lights and camera
what could be the best option?
mostly any laptop from the last 10 years or a minicomputer will be an upgrade @night flare
The base minimum is a Pi3, but not a Pi is better, and if you must run on a Pi, not an SD card will save pain π
Hi, if this is not the right channel please point me to the correct one. After the 2012.03 update, i can not get my fans to turn off. When is use βfan.turn_offβ or βfan.set_percentage = 0β the fan just ramps up to 100%
Questions about a hardware device (not their #integrations-archived with HA, and not the thing that HA calls devices)? Someone might have the same device and be able to help you out! That fan would be an #integrations-archived - you just didn't tell us which
thanks
Hi. I am looking for some kind smart item that can tell me if my home alarm is on when I enter the garage
You could just put a light or a lamp in the garage that you turn on and off in your arm/disarm script/automation.
I have one on my patio that I can see from the driveway. I turn it off when I leave and on when I come back.
Ok. That would work but will need to be low wattage. I was thinking of a wallsocket with an integrated Led that could be changed in the same way
I saw that once but it needed mosquito to program and I donβt understand how that works
Could put a night light on a smart plug that is compatible with HA
LED bulb in a night light would be 1W or less
Ok thatβs probably the best way. If someone should know off a wall plug with an integrated programmable led that would be the best
Anyone seen a multi switch zigbee sensor device, say 8-12 switches, which I could use for non HA folk to control HA devices, or has anyone cobbled such a thing together?
Something with a bunch of gpio pins, that configures as a zigbee device would be a starting place π
I've used Schlage BE469 for several years. Currently tied to Smartthings. Will eventually come over to HA. As for security, the easy way in my house is to smash a window. The door lock keeps honest people honest ad is good enough for where I live
On a different topic, do PIR devices work well with motion detectors to determine presence in a room? Or do they have the same issue when you sit still?
I quit the HA life right as lovelace was becoming a thing. getting back into it now I have free time to take care of it. I can not find any documentation on the roku remote stuff. well i can but the main HA page says it automatically shows up and mine does not. I can power on and go to netflix through source but I do not have arrow keys or anything. google has forums of people making their own "cards" but the docs makes it seem like that's not necessary anymore. please tell me if something is broken or if i need to follow a tutorial on making these cards?
Hi all π I have a multisensor 6 from aeotec and the update interval is 1h... How can I change it to anything smaller?
@drifting grove go to #zwave-archived
Looking for devices (motion detectors, siren, locks) that integrate well with HA and is local poll. Hit me!
I donβt mind which integration is used
anything in #zwave-archived or #zigbee-archived should work fine, you have to be a little more precise though
Precise how?
From what I can tell on the internetz zwave locks are not working that well.
ID lock 150 would have been a god fit, but im finding users complaining
im open to all sorts of advice, my goal is to have doors and ground floor windows monitored. If breached when the house is in an away state, i would like to active a siren and send notifications.
skip the sirens, i can use my smoke detectors
Looking for advice about a device to buy? Remember to provide guidance on:
- Which country you're in
- What your budget is
- What protocols you prefer (eg Zigbee, WiFi, Z-Wave)
- Any features you want (such as power monitoring, dimming, etc)
EU, budget mid to high end products, any integration that is local poll, battery powered sensors and locks, POE cameras with 4k and person detection.
Camera should be able to record over SFTP or equivalent, im looking at this atm https://reolink.com/product/rlc-810a/#specifications
No user account or cloud activation should be required for full functionality
is it safe to change original_name and/or entity_id in core.entity_registry? I'd like to do a bulk rename, but doing so manually via the UI is very tedious
^ update. I've yolo'ed it and all seems good π
Anyone have experience with Shelly or other "in the wall dimmers/switches" can could point me to somewhere I could read how these work if you say ... have 2 switches in different parts of the room that control the same light?
They work like any other multi-way switch, only you have no way of knowing what the state of the light is
The correct approach is to wire one module between the switches and the light
Umm Shelly does report its state
Its an excellent device, one of the best i've encountered
Sure, but if you have two wired to the same light, in a multi-way setup... which one tells the truth?
Two switches -> one Shelly
ye.. just wasnt sure where you'd place the switch.. i guess one of the light switches is a slave to the other?
See the link I posted π
havent done much digging around in walls.. yeah
You just put the Shelly between the existing wiring and the light
seems like there are a bunch of options on how to install.. all seem to have the same(?) result?
Is there any practical difference between the Toggle Switches and toggle switches aletrnate way?
Doesn't look like it, other than being able to know which switch was operated
doubt my scenarios would be that advanced
I mean, if you can you lose nothing by doing it, and maybe gain later. Just depends on whether it's worth the effort
yeah, shelly seems interesting.. as i understand the regular one can work with regular switches.. if you want dimming you either have to replace your current switches to momentary ones or convert the ones you have with by adding a spring or such
Honeywell fan control switch -- ZwaveJS -- Device shows up like any other switch/dimmer with the correct entity info, but the fan wont turn on or change speed. switch works as expected at the wall switch. what can i look at to fix?
Does anyone have any suggestions for inexpensive smartbulb-friendly light switches?
To avoid this situation lol https://imgur.com/a/8MnSadb
Like these, but not crazy expensive: https://www.cnet.com/news/smart-switches-that-wont-f-up-your-smart-bulbs/
There's some on china markets like these: https://www.banggood.com/Geekcreit-1-or-2-or-3-Gang-WiFi-Smart-Light-Switch-Push-Button-Smart-Life-or-Tuya-APP-Remote-Control-Works-with-Alexa-Google-Home-for-Voice-Control-p-1536383.html or https://www.banggood.com/SONOFF-T0-EU-or-US-or-UK-AC-100-240V-1-or-2-or-3-Gang-TX-Series-WIFI-Wall-Switch-Smart-Wall-Touch-Light-Switch-For-Smart-Home-Work-With-Alexa-Google-Home-p-1470886.html
Everything's China.. Is that the type you are looking for or?
well china = cheap usually lol
i love my cheap chinese sensors
6 for $1 i get them sometimes lol
42cent PIR sensors lol
At least those two brands are somewhat known to produce plenty of pretty ok devices
that sonoff can control smartbulbs directly?
mine are zigbee
I was jsut looking through these and wondering if it would work
my situation is: i have dimmable smart bulbs with color temperature settings but turning off the switch at the poll always f***s them up
ah, maybe better ask then here #zigbee-archived - those i pasted were for wifi (assumed you'd like to command via HA), at least Aqara has such switches
okay thanks man
i mean the remote doesn't necessarily havre to be zigbee.. i could probably get HA to interpret any commands
set lights to 50%```
for example
anybody have a smart padlock they would recommend? I've tried to search the forums, but mostly ive found threads about https errors π€·ββοΈ
hey, so I've noticed this 'Blue' thing on the h-a.io website... which says it doesn't come with external dongles for zigbee/z-wave... so is there a recommendation of which ones to get somewhere on the website?
@lone fiber #zwave-archived #zigbee-archived has information in the topic
Hi! I have "dumb" wall light switches and I want to automate this. The cases inside the wall don't have enough space for me to just buy some relays so I'm thinking about changing the switch completely. But I want to have some tactile switches and not the one's with just touch controls. I found these (an example) - https://pt.aliexpress.com/item/4000750868524.html?srcSns=sns_Gmail&spreadType=socialShare&bizType=ProductDetail&social_params=20089640169&aff_fcid=15cdc0fabb5d4444920aa8f65acc8e91-1615055536500-02489-_mPC19AT&tt=MG&aff_fsk=_mPC19AT&aff_platform=default&sk=_mPC19AT&aff_trace_key=15cdc0fabb5d4444920aa8f65acc8e91-1615055536500-02489-_mPC19AT&shareId=20089640169&businessType=ProductDetail&platform=AE&terminal_id=51420a3347404f52bf8757312bae6a25 - and this has the exact measurements of my current one's so it's something like this that I need. THE QUESTION IS: I need them to be compatible with Home Assistant. Does anyone knows of some brand/model/something that has this feel and is compatible with HA? Thank you!!!
Well, it says Tuya, so it might work with the Tuya integration, or be flashable with Tasmota
Personally if you wanted a compatible light switch I'd suggest looking at Zigbee
thanks @winged knoll I was not sure what brand those were. I see that HA has a good support for Tuya so I think I wouldn't have any issues with the that one. About Zigbee, they have these kind of switches? I can't find them
https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/tuya/
IoT class: Cloud Polling
It works, when you have working Internet and their cloud service is up
The #zigbee-archived channel has pinned messages listing known working hardware
hmm so I must use their app anyway, even if only for the first installation/use
but you're talking about "their cloud service". they say on that page that you don't need a hub but it's still dependent on the cloud, it's not 100% local in any way
What's the IoT class π
thanks @winged knoll I will take a look at your suggestions and maybe I will buy one of the Tuya's switches and make some tests
i have another question. anyone have an idea of the power consumption of a switch or wall power socket with wifi? I mean, only the wifi power consumption?
I have 24 light switches at home and maybe everything connected to wifi with the lights off will have a signigicant power consumption
There'll be some consumption, but it'll vary from device to device. ISTR you can reasonably expect a fraction of a watt
https://notenoughtech.com/home-automation/smart-lights-wont-save-you-money/ should give you some ideas, and there's other articles out there
WiFi generally draws more power than Zigbee by the look of things
it's still a lot of money just for standby. for my 24 switches, it's between 20 and 62 usd
one year
my bad. 20usd it's for zigbee
Just count the time you've wasted on smarting your home and that number is nothing π
That was good reading btw
Smart only saves money if you have teenagers, or others that leave lights on all the time
you're right π
there must be some advantages. in my case it was just for commodity...
My kid gets console shut down but for some reason the tv stays on showing random nice images.. Could save few bucks adjusting the settings
hehe
the remote is next to console controller, no idea why that happens but it happens a lot

The #zwave-archived channel was the right place to ask
I am comsidering a Soma Tilt. It comes with a solar panel. Neat solution. Just wondering if it will work in clouded north western Europe. Anyone with any experience with these kind of solar based solutions?
what is the home assistent device thats a actual device?
Do you mean the HA Blue?
Anyone having issues with Kasa lights dropping connections?
I have some annoying "hang over" devices where I have been forced to redo everything and yet the old device will not go away. Is the only way to get rid of this kind of thing to hack the HomeAssistant database? Feels a bit over the top but there is just no delete button, even though I have been able to delete all of the entities in these things...
Hi all,
It might be a dumb question, but im struggling to see which actions a devices have in Home Assistant. I just got my Roborock vacuum added, and i can see all the values, but not sure how i see which actions it have.
The reason i ask is to add the available actions to my Tileboard
Hope someone can point me in the right direction

Ok, sorry
hey, has the home assistant that supports more than 3 fan speeds been released yet>
nevermind!
HI all. I have decided to take my first plunge to try and get a video cam working on my home assistant. Are there better know cams, and are the any integrations or add-ons needed to make them work?
Thanks for any ideas.
I did find this: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/generic**
But, being new to all this, I am not sure where to start with this.
Hello Guys hope this is the right channel for hardware related questions. I am looking to add split AC to a few rooms in the house so that we dont have to run the whole house ac. Any recommendations/suggestions of systems that play nicely and have integrations with HASS.
Anyone have much experience with the Aeon Labs Minimotes?
#zwave-archived folks likely do, if you ask the actual question
Hey there! π
I want to integrate my ikea pax lighting to my home assistant, and maybe add some extra functionality to the buttons.
I have TRΓ
DFRI psu, and 2 TRΓ
DFRI button, one simple, and one with 5 buttons.
my ha running on a raspberry. So I will need some kind of usb zigbee dongle. Can you recommend me a reliable one? π
Thank you!

okay, thanks
Hi there π ! Any MQTT / mosquitto expert around ? I have an issue with birth_message & will_message never dispatched by mosquitto HA addon. I opened a thread on HA forums https://community.home-assistant.io/t/birth-message-will-message-not-published/287508 but maybe I'll get luckier here π
Can xiaomi camera added to Home assistant? i've just bought a camera ( model : mijia 1080p) and couldn't find a way to add it to Onvif or to HA π©
#cameras-archived would know
thank
hi...my tasmota is returning a state (open/closed). but it's also returning some state attributes...hoe can I use those attributes in an overview widget?
@tidal pollen that would be question for #frontend-archived - i believe your options are to use attributes lovelace card or create a sensor from attribute. Also entity-card can show single attribute
@coral rivet ok thanks...what about the frequency that the tasmota device status (position) is updated?
dunno, i've seen values 30 and 60 seconds for some integrations, my esps send messages over mqtt whenever they feel like or as per configured
ok thanks again....have to check how to configure that in my esps
Tried removing and re-adding the Nest integration a few times now, still can't get devices/entities to reappear, have two thermostats and a doorbell cam
Did attempt rebooting the devices after removing, then readding them to no avail
Was working previously, stopped working after an update to home assistant
Getting a bit sick of my IKEA bulbs running through deCONZ as I can't get them back to proper white. Also their lowest dimmed setting is pretty darn bright.. love my hues, but they are so damn pricey. any recommendations for well priced bulbs that dim well?
TrΓ₯dfri is good enough for me, except in the bedroom
There I have hue
10% dimmer to be frank
Also no issues with proper white with zigbee2mqtt
its the e27 color bulbs
I only use CT bulbs
that you can't get back to pure white since IKEA did some non standard crap
Or, I have one RGB bulb
you should notice that it gets a lot brighter near certain RGB colors
or.. x,y since thats what it accepts behind the scenes
IKEA made it so the white, warm white etc x,y value colors light the W bulb as well
but you actually can't get it exactly to the right point via deCON>, only via TrΓ₯dfri gateway
I have no major issues with brightness to be fair, adaptive lighting dims them for me throughout the day
anyways... for me.. the lowest TrΓ₯dfri is just way to bright to use as a nightlight at night so I'm looking to swap them
the Hue GU10 that I have is brilliant.. can set it to a really dim warm orange
but feels very expensive just for that one purpose
I only have one bulb that activates at night, inside the bathroom, a 600lm trΓ₯dfri, inside a fabric mesh lamp shade
Nothing else in my house is on after we go to bed
haha.. yep.. was testing the hall light, GF got up, instantly went to turn the light off
Guys I read a lot and I did not find answer. I am looking for cheap (less money than for h801) flashable (tasmota, esphome) alternative led analog controller. I mean since Magic home has new boufallo chip instead esp I need sth new. Or mby did u order recently magic home with esp on aliexpress? For now h801 looks like best option.
I went with the M5Stack ATOM Lite if 6 gpio headers are enough for you
has a plastic casing as well which was convenient for me
anyone have better sources than direct to buy Shelly switches in the US?

Anyone have any of the Ledvance(formerly Osram) bulbs that can vouch for how low they dim? price point is attractive
Hi has anyone in the seen these and do they know if they work in home assistant
There's lists of known working Zigbee hardware pinned in #zigbee-archived @patent zodiac
Hi everyone!.. can anyone help me? today i got my zigbee sonoff mini.. but im confused still cant get it to work. ( got 2 wires out the wall ) --> sealing light. but where do i need to plug those in.
Is this the best channel to get help with Tasmota devices? I have an ESP32 dev board flashed with Tasmota and trying to understand how to configure it with various GPIO pins, how to map certain pins to switches, and make them appear in Home Assistant. Basically trying to understand Tasmota's naming of things. I've been all over https://tasmota.github.io/docs/ but don't seem to understand it. A dummy's guide would be great. haha
Have you tried the Tasmota Discord?
There, and the #diy-archived channel here, would be the places to get help

is there any chance to find electric curtain for kitchen around 200 euro ? besides ikea who doesn't have a colourful choice i cannot find anything
Hey guys,
newcomer here, wish to automate my home. Before I start purchasing, I wish to find out which brands are best integrated?
I wish to start with switches, bulbs, motion detectors and etc. All the basic. I understand that some Local Tuya do not support power monitoring if the devices have no access to internet, I would like to avoid that.
I see lots of brads and integrations, but I would like to stick with one and good brand rather than buy 1238123 brands.
What I am looking for is:
- Local support (all devices will be with turned off cloud/internet)
- If plugs and switches, there must be power monitoring
- Both ZigBee and Wifi devices are welcome!
Thanks in advance!
See the pinned messages π
Can anyone recommend a local weather monitoring solution that will tie into HA?
I need to monitor the wind speed at work as part of my role, Ideally i was looking for something with MQTT or a cloud solution as it will be on a remote network.
Location: GB
Budget: Around Β£250 ish GBP
You too should answer the questions in the pinned messages π

Sorry, I'll try again;
I wish to create a universal media player to be able to switch on 14 actual media players with a single command.
The configuration.yaml is here: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/DpYk2fywyG/
When I use Developer Tools --> Services to call media_player.turn_on with my universal player as target entity, the result is that only one of the 14 media players in the list is actually turned on; the one next to last in the list?!? Why? What am I doing wrong this time? Please help....
Well, the first things is ... you didn't read the topic of this channel π
The second thing is, that's not how you specify multiple entities
target:
entity_id:
- media_player.apple_tv
- media_player.soverom
It's so good to have you around Tinkerer π
I tried that first (with the hyphen), but I got an invalid configuration message, so I removed it, and it became valid.
But I'll give it another try.
Oh, and I chose this topic (Devices) because I figured the universal media player is a "virtual" device ?
Which device type are climate entities part of?

I'm trying to force a discovered device into a type
I appreciate that on mobile the topic is hard to spot, but on the desktop apps it's at the top of the window
That's what the docs recommend when ZHA fails to pick one.
Questions about a hardware device (not their #integrations-archived with HA, and not the thing that HA calls devices)?
You're still asking about #integrations-archived
Okdokie - sorry!
Should my question be in the #integrations-archived channel as well ?
Yes, because you're asking about an #integrations-archived
Aha, ok
Is it possible to add a wifi light to HA? I'm trying to do so in configuration.yaml but not sure best way. They are from SImply Conserve and pretty generic.
Alternatively ... they're added already in google home app, not sure if there's a way to make them seen from there
Fro the second, no, there's not
For the first, only if there's an #integrations-archived that supports it - and the odds aren't in your favour π
Nothing useful for getting your lights into HA
oof i think thats opposite direction
There's no way to get devices from a voice assistant into HA (or any other platform)
Where to buy Roborock?
Amazon?
Sorry. For Canadians. Usually I would buy from Amazon then go across the border and get it. Borders closed though. Amazon Canada is charging insane rates
Any HA-compatible robot vacuums sold through AliExpress?
Yes, roborock
and s5max is best
Did anybody ever encounter Temperature / Humidity sensors (BLE) that already broadcast temp and hum without pairing?..thanks
Why @frail urchin ?
Are you worried about it broadcasting before pairing, or are you interested in not pairing?
The question is, vague
sorry for being vague. indeed, I am actually interested in "not pairing" and still read out the data.
The XY problem is asking about your attempted solution rather than your actual problem.
This leads to enormous amounts of wasted time and energy, both on the part of people asking for help, and on the part of those providing help.
The problem occurs when people get stuck on what they believe is the solution and are unable to step back and explain the issue in full.
the xiaomi ble sensors I have I don't "pair" with
I read their data via esphome after uploading a third party firmware
are those the "older" round one's? because I have the new "square" version and they specifically require pairing.
Thanks, that is actually the blog-post I followed to get "around the Bind key" to use them with ESPhome.
OR, is "adding the MAC of the device to ESPhome not actually pairing"....?
ok, thanks..
curtain/blinds to integrate with ha (beside ikea) and affordable (200 euro) ?
at least u point one if you talk...just throw youtube in here doesn't help me
Can someone help me find the right door sensor?
* Which country you're in
I'm in Poland
* What your budget is
Around $5 for each sensor
* What protocols you prefer (eg Zigbee, WiFi, Z-Wave)
I prefer Wifi
* Any features you want (such as power monitoring, dimming, etc)
Nope
Okay, let's say $10 for each sensor
Then you can get the Aqara ones, Zigbee though, not WiFi
But I don't have a Zigbee stick

Will CC2531 work with RPi4 and Hassio?
The CC2531 and CC2530 sticks are cheap for a reason. They're fine for testing, but do yourself a favour and buy something better.
"Work"... for some value of work
You'll also need mains powered devices to extend the mesh - see the pinned messages in #zigbee-archived
okay, thanks
Hey All i'm a noob struggling with date & time sensor that keeps resetting to Mar3 ... can anyone help? or direct me to the proper channel?
It's worth taking the time to read the channel topics, but ... #integrations-archived could help
Though, you need to check the actual date and time first
{{ now() }}
``` paste that in  -> _Templates_ the next time it errors
yeah, new to discord too - wasn't sure if this was considered an integration or something, theres no 'sensor' channel
If you find it in the Integrations pages, it's an integration π
99% of HA is actually an integration, and some have a dedicated channel beyond that one
actual time is accurate - I've been tryint to use for a 'today is...' card based on https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/time_date/ but this doesn't have any effect on the rewriting of the date every XX mins
That just reports the time HA thinks it is
If the stock one of those (not a template one) produces the wrong date/time then the host has the wrong date/time
that's so confusing b/c the logbook shows it accurately - as does the HA logs, and the terminal
but the logbook then shows it being changed by time_date_iso
