That'd be a thing for #voice-assistants-archived if you're talking about voice control, #integrations-archived otherwise - but I'd be very surprised if it did
Hey Guys, im looking for someone with decent experience in wled, ledfx, and HA.
Is there any way to sync light to music without Ledfx? I have a bunch of ESPHOME RGBW Bulbs as well as a magichome controller for a led strip, but i cant put wled on any of that π
i am able to create groups in HA to sync all lights together on user interaction, but not automatically with music let say
Guys is there a open source TL lamp that you can recommend
whats a TL Lamp?
Anyone used a Venstar T7850 thermostat? Looking at this for my HA setup and just wanting to know if there are any gotchas you've run into.
hey ho, does some can prefer a motion sensor?
Is there a way to control wifi (not bluetooth) c by ge lights from HA? I'm talking about these hubless ones
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/c-by-ge-soft-white-direct-connect-light-bulbs-4-a19-smart-led-light-bulbs-60w-replacement-white/6425906.p?skuId=6425906
I've been trying to find a cloudless light solution for the last week, and it looks like tuya is blocked for now.
#frontend-archived would be the best place to ask
Hey all! I'm looking for WiFi RGB Led bulbs in the US that don't require cloud connectivity. I've looked into the various Tuya bulbs, but there most recent firmware prevents flashing, so no joy there. I've got LIFX working, but those are very expensive. I'd prefer bulbs without a base/controller station. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I use YeeLight. Haven't figured out how to not connect to the app first, but can be configured for local control
Gesan what do you need in terms of bulb requirements?
I just bought some Tuya bulbs that I flashed OTA to ESPHome and Tasmota the other day
@foggy pecan thanks for the fan info. Just ordered
Pretty sure they shipped with older firmware and have just been sitting in the stockroom and so aren't updated: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QNY3SMV/
@restive grove I've got E26/E27 base, A21 bulb though I'm flexible on that part. I bought Feit bulbs and Merkury bulbs and tried the tuya-convert process, but they both seem to have the updated firmware.
Ok, yeah, if you're flexible on bulb size/shape, then these A19s in theory should work. I bought 2 packs this week and was able to flash all without issue
Not the brightest, but brighter than most Tuya RGBCCT bulbs. 900lm is peak, but I'd guess they put out closer to 850 normally.
That sounds fine. The Merkury bulbs claim 1050lm, I can't imagine it's that far off. Thanks for the link. I'll try them out.
π someone told me to post here oops
Oh, just a tip if you flash ESPHome, color_interlock: true and constant_brightness: true helps. Without interlock, your whites will get RGB mixed in (but it does break some of the effects in ESPHome since you can only use either white or RGB LEDs independently). Without constant_brightness, I think the bulb winds up pulling too much juice at full brightness and it overheats/crashes their wifi.
From what I saw on other ESPHome templates, this is an issue for the Feit and Merkury bulbs too.
That tracks. When I removed the Feit bulb after my flash attempts it was very hot.
I see this message in the log "The OWFS implementation of 1-Wire sensors is deprecated, and should be migrated to OWServer"
So how is the OWServer implementation to be done? Any pointer to the documentation?
Any advice for an doorbell?? Secure and compatibility with HA??
@finite storm are you wanting a ring style one?
Yes this thinks
Try this one Amcrest AD110 Video Doorbell
I watch Digiblur and he did a whole video on it. see here. https://www.digiblur.com/2020/02/amcrest-video-doorbell-local-storage.html
https://amzn.to/2usgiKT
@finite storm if you just want to integrate an existing (wired) doorbell you can wire a WiFi SoC + relay between the switch and chime. There is an example linked from the ESPhome website with a minimal firmware defn
My experience with off-the-shelf WiFi devices is that none are truly secure/private unless you secure them yourself. ymmv
Looks very fine... πππ
Guys AMCREST AD110
What a wonderfull product
Support also RTSP. Thank you so much @wintry zealot
@finite storm yep! not that far in my own setup yet, currently just roku's my samsung smarttv, and soon to be a thermostat but plan to head that way. Let me know how well it works on yours. π
Yes let you know, is not totally cloud free but you can cancel recordings on cloud and chose to send pictures via RTSP, and you receive notificiations via cloud app live view, just live view on the app.. Can, t avoid that but this is acceaptable now
Anyone know if there is a way to put Philips Hue bulbs into pairing mode? I have a Philips Hue Hub, but it won't connect to the lights for some reason. So I am looking for an alternate method. I am using a ConBee II stick with the Zigbee integration.
The lights used to be integrated on my old HA Pi. I've just set up a new HA Pi and want to pair them to that. Maybe the lights won't pair to any other devices because they are locked to the old HA Pi?
I can't even pair the bulbs using the Philips Hue Hub and app.
can you pair it with the serial number with Hue App?
I did try that, but it didn't work
Does your support bluetooth?
no, just zigbee
ahh, okay. all of my new Hue has BT but old Hue doesn't
Do you have a Hue dimmer switch or a TRADFRI remote control?
I tried power cycling 6 times and managed to get one bulb paired
but the others won't pair
No I don't have those
ahh, I'm not sure why you can't pair it with the Hue app if it isn't paired with anything else.
Usually you just have to remove 'er from the Hue app
Yeah, maybe the bulbs think they are paired to my old HA and won't pair to anything else
Funny that one did re-pair when I did a power cycle six times, but the others won't
Is sonoff the best brand to easily flash Tasmota?
Hi all, any idea why my Sonoff S31 plug light is blinking blue all of a sudden? Been working fine for over a year then just went offline out fo the blue.
Hi, I just got this smart Light Switch, after installing it I noticed that my light bulb stays a bit powered instead of completely turned off, is there any chance I'm installing it in the wrong way? or should I return the device?
I forget to link the item: https://www.amazon.com/GE-Enbrighten-SimpleWire-SmartThings-46201/dp/B07RRBT6W5/
strange, i would of gotten dimmers tho
Hello everyone! Where canI see a list of the smart tvs that that can be controlled by home assistant?
Hi.
I am interested in using HomeAssistant to control + automate devices and sensors from multiple different brands and manufacturers (eg. Philips, Xiaomi, Lifx).
Will I need to purchase a hub for every manufacturer (eg. Philips Hue bridge, Xiaomi Aqara, Xiaomi Mijia, SmartThings) to achieve this?
Hopefully I've asked this question in right channel...
I believe that you can find integrations for TVs under Media Players https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/#media-player
@hot depot There are a few different standards that devices nowadays use, you'll need one "hub" for each. Hue and Aqara are both #zigbee-archived unless I'm mistaken. Check out the channel topic links there. There are cheap usb sticks you can use instead of an official hub
wifi devices obviously don't need a hub other than your network router
Zigbee light meter (any recommendations) vs a real wired light sensing relay?
With light meter I would get numbers, with relay I would get open or closed, but would probably tolerate outside climate (-15C today here) better.
Any other ideas?
Cheers!
I know @winged knoll used some Xiaomi light meter @wind vale
Tinkerer is away for 1h 5m 56s with a message :point_right: Itβs my understanding that what people donβt know can hurt them. Quite severely.
Might be best idea. I guess I could get creative with dc to dc converter and power from other things to save on batteries
Not sure how well 2032s work outside
I have temp and buttons outside with 2032
Been running for over a year
In -35 - +35c ranges and in direct sun / humidity, although under roof
I run a xiaomi temp /hum sensor outside too, in a plastic temp enclosure, so it's dry and not in direct sunlight, but otherwise exposed to the elements. It gets quite dirty after a while too
Light sensor would need to be visible
Might be best sticking it to a window and have it inside tbh
Want to turn outside lights on with it
And possibly some lighting inside
Xiaomi? No, they pair fine
I would start with the xiaomi ones outdoors and if it fails, then just figure out a better. They are dirt cheap compared to most alternatives and like atx, I've had no issues with a button in -35C - +35C range
For some reason my Google home can't use TTS. When I use it the Google home will beep so it knows it should try to do something but it didn't speak. Any ideas?
Please use https://paste.ubuntu.com/ to share code or logs. Please don't use Pastebin, since it can randomly add spaces to the main view.
I'm just trying to use the interface to get it to say something but it doesn't read it out
All other functionality works fine, it will happily change volume etc
Only using the GUI, no idea, all my TTS happens from automations and service calls
but your log might have something
Yes I'm hoping to use it in automatons too but as it isn't even working here I'm guessing there is not much point trying yet lol
And you have configured TTS? And your instance is reachable from the internet via SSL?
If you don't know, it isn't setup, so that explains it
I assumed as it was in the interface it was standard π€¦ββοΈ
So I just need to follow a guide somewhere then essentially?
Does anyone know of a favoured bathroom scale which can be TASMOTIZED? I don't have a bathroom scale and if I'm gonna get one, I'm hooking it up.
Anyone know why the Google TTS has stopped working? it "bleeps" but doesnt actually talk anymore.....
@civic kraken thanks for your reply mate. π
I think I understand what you're saying. I've picked up a CC2531 and waiting for it to arrive. If this is functional, it means that I would be able to control ALL Zigbee devices, regardless of the brand/manufacturer?
I suppose what I'm trying to avoid is having multiple hubs and trying to avoid being brand-committed
You'll need to have some firmware running on the CC2531 as well. There are also pre-flashed devices from Sonoff for example. In theory you should be able to control all zigbee devices with them, but I don't know if that's guaranteed. I've had no issues with Xiaomi stuff at least. But if you have questions about zigbee, you should ask in #zigbee-archived
Ah yes, I should have been more specific. I did buy the Sonoff flashed CC2531. π
Thanks for your help, mate.
Hi I am contemplating getting some temp sensors.
I have ha via a rpi4 and already have tuya lights (WiFi) p hue lights/ tradfri lights via p hue hub 1.
Iβm thinking a zigbee temp sensor that will connect to ha via the Phillips hue hub 1. Can anyone recommend a sensor?
Can anyone help me locate the setting inside of Tasmota (on the device itself, in this case its a light switch running Tasmota 9.2) that correlates to the Entity Name in HA? I have updated everything in Tasmota already, (Hostname, DeviceName, FriendlyName, etc). But when I add the switch to HA its still naming all the switches "Tasmota_1, Tasmota_2, etc)
and its giving then Entity IDs that correlate too, (switch.tasmota_1, switch.tasmota_2, etc)
Hi Guys as per one of my previous posts I have a wifi extender in my house and the problem currently is if I move to the one side of the house my device tracker shows away if it connects to the extender. Someone suggested an AP would it work if I use an old mikrotik router as an ap will the devices (phone, esphome) be visible in HA?
What do you need to delete? You can disable it under the configuration device tab
i want to delete a temp sensor from telldus ...i dont want to disable it
i cant find any simple ... delete function
If you added it through an integration you can delete it from there but tbh I usually disable them so never really had a look
i cant find how i delete it from the integration. Have been looking everywhere π¦
i have a new temp sensor that i want to use outside... and i use it with Grafan and stuff
its just a nightmare to switch a device to a new one
its a bit hard to explain. I can explain my problem better in voice if someone wants to help π
Anyone know of a remote that control scenes or a screen? Maybe something like a stream deck or whatever
literally just want it for my lounge to turn on/off scenes
any suggestions on white wifi bulbs? I have been using C by GE bulbs with google home but those are not available for HA integration
Anyone have any assistance on this I'm still struggling. βΉοΈ
This is kinda a workaround but I switched my home presence to be based of geolocation instead of AP
@mint edge long live zigbee
Ive been doing some research this morning and I think Im going to start getting zigbee devices.
Where do you buy yours from? Any recommendations on hub&bulbs?
Sorry what does CT stand for?
Oh those work as well for me in lamps.
Yep, I have ... Some, I've lost count
any particular brand you stick with?
or are those also tradfri?
I wasn't sure if that answer was hub or both
You can find his config lurking in the darkness.
It is a bit out of date
There are more devices now
And more docker
I run a cc1352p2 with zigbee2mqtt as coordinator
With all my brands of zigbee
Tradfri,hue, gledopto, namron, Xiaomi
This is what I was looking at on amazon https://www.amazon.com/dresden-elektronik-ConBee-Universal-Gateway/dp/B07PZ7ZHG5/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=zigbee+usb+hub&qid=1612034587&sr=8-3
I run zigbee2mqtt because I want to decouple ZigBee from HA, I also enjoy the community of zigbee2mqtt, with fast adding of new features, I can add my own features if I want and it has been dead stable for me
I also run HA in docker
#449717345808547842 that is
@fringe moon just looked at your set up ππ
Any temp sensor you would recommend
Would it be zigbee?
Depends on your needs, for my indoors I currently use Xiaomi ones, both zigbee and Bluetooth, plus some esp devices, and building an esp device for my 4 freezers and 1 fridge
Do the tradfri devices work without the tradfri gateway just as normal zigbee devices?
Okay I think im going to look into setting up zigbe2mqtt
#zigbee-archived can help
I managed to use the docs and google to get my first foscam working with a control on the dash, but have no idea how to add the second in /config/configuration.yaml. Anyone familiar with getting multiple cameras up under the foscam integration or should i scrap that for a better integration? Thanks in advance
oops. i see #cameras-archived. should probably have put that there
Whats your current config look like?
I would think you just add another - in the yaml list
camera:
- platform: foscam
name: camera.foscamR4
ip: 10.10.10.203
username: myuser
password: mypass
- platform: foscam

Does that not work?
To format your text as code, enter three backticks on the first line, press Enter for a new line, paste your code, press Enter again for another new line, and lastly three more backticks. Here's an example
Don't forget you can edit your post rather than repeatedly posting the same thing.
For over 15 lines you must use a code share site such as https://paste.ubuntu.com/ or https://www.hastebin.com/.
Then use back ticks :)
ok, i was putting the 'camera:' bit in there twice. still getting the knack of the format and this channel. will comply, @fringe moon
yeah I made that mistake before as well. Camera is the section and anything related to camera will go just be added with another -
Hello:
- my:
code is so nice
I fixed it

Glad to hear. I would also suggest you use secret file for username and password as well

that is sweet. i'm going camp here for a few weeks, i can tell
I spent way to much time in HA. My wife things its dumb but I enjoy it
Looking for two device's for UK zigbee (ZHA / Conbee II)
Temperature sensor
Just to tell room Temperature or anything else that is similar in price but also tells room temperature
Motion.sensor
Ideally one that is best for picking up a person moving and not just random objects moving
Budget ideally cheap but Reliable > Cheap
So I'm considering getting some tradfri drivers for my kitchen cabinets, I can use my hue bridge to connect them. My question is if I have two separate led's connected to it, are they independently controllable? Or if I was to "turn on the kitchen", would both lights come on?
Does anyone have experience with recessed door sensors like this one? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082PT71MM/?pldnSite=1
Looking for something like this that people would recommend or if anyone knows if the linked one is good.

any recommendations for IR blasters compatible with HA? i have an old logitech hub, but i can't get it to work with my ceiling fans... RM Mini any good?
broadlink is pretty popular or you can make them yourself pretty easily
if it involves soldering i'm better off buying something
make sure you know what frequency your fans run at before you try to buy something
that might be a problem, i have no spec sheets, not even sure i have the model numbers
check for some info on the remote
most blasters are cheap enough to just make a gamble on them working, as long as they are HA compatible
Hi. Iβm new here and I have a noob question
I have just setup HA. I have some rf switches that I have set up with the rf bridge flashed with tasmota
Iβve gotten as far as getting the mqtt message in node red. What is the correct way to add them to home assistant?
Or do I just start using them in automations as a trigger?
That is, using the mqtt as a trigger somehow?
I have seen the switch class but it looks like a toggle switch and mine are momentary switches.
Looking for UK-compatible energy-monitoring plugs compatible with zigbee?
I'm after either something in this form factor: https://www.assets.signify.com/is/image/PhilipsLighting/0baae76e677c4d6cabdbaaa000ea871d?wid=740&hei=555&qlt=82&fmt=png&resMode=sharp2
Or a small device that I can embed behind the wall-socket (preferred as then I can take it back to Aus)
My condos shades are almost 16 years old and need replacing. I obviously want to go the smart home motorized route. Lutronβs Serena shades are my top choice right now but I was wondering if anyone here has experience with them or other suggestions? (I apologize in advance if this isnβt the right room)
I'm trying to add my EcoWitt Soil Moisture Sensor to Home Assistant, i'm using the rtl_433 addons and the device is added via mqtt. I am getting this error message, it looks like it may be related to the fact it's a moisture sensor. Has anyone seen this before that can point me in the right direction, i'd like to get this added to one of my dashboards. 2021-01-30 23:07:19 ERROR (MainThread) [homeassistant.util.logging] Exception in async_discover_sensor when dispatching 'mqtt_discovery_new_sensor_mqtt': ({'device_class': 'moisture', 'name': 'Fineoffset-WH51-00141d-H', 'unit_of_measurement': '%', 'value_template': '{{ value|float }}', 'state_topic': 'rtl_433/9b13b3f4-rtl433/devices/Fineoffset-WH51/00141d/moisture', 'unique_id': 'Fineoffset-WH51-00141d-H', 'device': {'identifiers': 'Fineoffset-WH51-00141d', 'name': 'Fineoffset-WH51-00141d', 'model': 'Fineoffset-WH51', 'manufacturer': 'rtl_433'}, 'platform': 'mqtt'},) Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/src/homeassistant/homeassistant/components/mqtt/sensor.py", line 84, in async_discover_sensor config = PLATFORM_SCHEMA(discovery_payload) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.8/site-packages/voluptuous/schema_builder.py", line 272, in __call__ return self._compiled([], data) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.8/site-packages/voluptuous/schema_builder.py", line 594, in validate_dict return base_validate(path, iteritems(data), out) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.8/site-packages/voluptuous/schema_builder.py", line 432, in validate_mapping raise er.MultipleInvalid(errors) voluptuous.error.MultipleInvalid: value must be one of ['battery', 'current', 'energy', 'humidity', 'illuminance', 'power', 'power_factor', 'pressure', 'signal_strength', 'temperature', 'timestamp', 'voltage'] for dictionary value @ data['device_class']
Well, it tells you what the error is
Your device class isn't valid
Use one of the valid ones stated
Thanks I can see that now, the device is being added by the addon so i'll need to contact the addon creator then I suppose and log an issue. Unless there is some way I can do this myself.
No idea, don't use add-ons
Just dug into this a bit more, it looks like this might need to be changed (line 185)
Changing it to humidity maybe? That seems to be the only reasonable substitute for moisture.
I'm looking for a motion sensor that can work in the dark and can run on a personal hotspot and then ping my phone. Anyone know of anything like this? Thanks!
What ... Is the actual usecase? And why not zigbee?
First time here. Please, if I may ask: Is anyone here running the Lidl (silvercrest) doorbell with success? (the Lidl power plugs and doorsensor work in my latest HA, but not the doorbell)
or should I better ask this in the #zigbee-archived channel?
hey ho, did someone know if the motion sensor is integrateable at home-assistant
you mean the Lidl one..?
sorry, from the netatmo presence...
Acutally, looking further down that page...
- alias: Netatmo event example
The #integrations-archived can likely help further there
thx
Hi everyone! Is someone willing to help a noob? π I am not able to make a speaker group...
Hi guys. If i want to stream Internet radio, through media player which device would be easier? Google nest mini, chromecast or are there any other cheap speakers that supports streaming? Thanks
i have 3 google nests, which work perfectly in a group since i setup everything in the google home app
but i have a bose soundtouch 10
which i would love to add to the group...
You can't, unless it supports Cast
so i am not able to make a media group in home assistant?
Have a look at the #integrations-archived options at https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations#media-player π
everything is integrated, i see all the devices.. but i'm way too dumb to make a group π€£

i have the aqara cube and in zigbee2mqtt when flip90 or flip180 this remains side:2, but "action_side": changes , can i make a sensor for "action_side" ?
Yes

Hi all, just installed Home Assistant for the first time, and it's failing to recognise any of my smart plugs (Kasa and Nooie) or bulbs (Wiz), all of which are functioning fine with Google Home
Is there anything I can do?
i build a nfc reader with the materials provided in the tutorial here. https://github.com/adonno/tagreader now the tagreader board has a built in LED that always seems to burn red. Is there a way to turn that off and use the seperated LED only

Hey folks, do you have any suggestions for a smart plug that I could use to measure a washing machine's power utilization? It's a standard three-pronged 120v outlet. Ideally it wouldn't be internet dependent.
Hi. I migrated from my PI4 to PC with SSD due to corrupted SD card. Unfortunately my pc dont have a bluetooth hence i cannot use the BLE/BT tracking function. Does anyone know a any softwares/OS that i can install on my PI4 to use as a BLE/BT beacon/tracker that can easily be integrated with HA?
As an alternative to HA built-in bluetooth tracking, the monitor script uses separate devices, usually Pi Zeroes, to track bluetooth devices.
It uses MQTT topics to relay device status messages to HA. See this forum thread for more.
Raspberry Pi OS + Monitor and you're done π
Thank you so much π
Anyone with the Blitzwolf SHP6 Pro (the 3450W version) with ESPHome? I'm trying to find the right calibration values, but the ones in https://www.esphome-devices.com/devices/blitzwolf-bw-shp6/ do give the expected values
@orchid gazelle ESPHome is a system to control your ESP8266/ESP32, with a native integration for Home Assistant.
You can find their documentation here, and get help with ESPHome itself here in the #diy-archived channel (#integrations-archived for the integration). They also have their own Discord server too.

Hi. New here and new to Home Assistant. I'm considering to buy 2 TP-Link HS110. My idea is to make some scripting to torn one of them off if they together delivers too much power - to avoid blowing the fuse. So now my questions are: Can I get a power reading fast enough, e.g. withing seconds of change rather than minutes? How much power are these devices using themself? Should I look for other devices (in EU)?
Anyway of integrate a Bluetooth Speaker into HA?..
Did you find a new uk plug for zigbee?
Not yet, no
Energenie has some wallplates that caught my attention
Not sure on integration though
Nice, zigbee2mqtt compatible?
And energy monitoring? (Don't care about switch)
Just ordered 3, thanks @little sentinel
@hoary hawk this one looks promising https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lv8KIlDMVs

Does anybody have any tips on getting my Home Assistant to work with my alexa using the HUe-emulation?
I won't be paying for cloud - that's for sure.... If I can't get this to work, I will look into doing the custom skill etc using AWS though.... But I'm a bit scared of runaway bills or something I've heard some bad stories π¦

@long mirage How did you setup this light? What integration?
I can definitely trigger the light / adjust brightness, just apparently does not have a unique ID
it's missing the option in those menus
Hmmm :/ I'm unfamiliar with that integration, but I've seen that error before, but I can't remember how I solved it
Please see the faq entry about that message.
^ @long mirage
thanks, I'll give it a look over π
I was wondering if someone can help me with Tasmota and MQTT. I had 11 devices up and running with HA using Eclipse Mosquitto broker and the MQTT integration. However, I was trying to add in some more light switches and a few bulbs and I'm having issues. I'm very inexperienced with MQTT, so I'm having trouble with messages. I believe it has something to do with retaining messages; I have tried uninstalling both the Broker and Integration to no avail. I also can't seem to find the mosquitto.db file that some guides have said to delete
if I was going for on/off only, I'd look for either wall-plate or something in-wall like a SONOFF ZBMINI or similar - only willing to tolerate the dongle for energy tracking π
Hello, I'm wondering if somebody can answer some basic questions about what entities can be and how switches and other entities work
I have a IR blaster and I've configured it to send out commands that set my LED lights to different colors
however I configured everything under "switch:" in configuration.yaml
and now "green" or "brighten" has a binary on-off state
how do I just have it be a button with no binary state
and what would that entry under confiration.yaml be, if not "switch:"
Should I just use a script?
Anybody have the rm4 mini from broadlink? What kind are you using for power? Kind of a PITA
yeah I'm actually using it right now
funnily enough
I literally have it plugged into the back of my PC man
Yeah I wasn't sure if it would actually work like that. IR needs to be line of sight. I have some devices too close to pc to get it to work so needs to be across the room on wall
the IR blaster is exceptionally bright
I have it sitting on my desk above the computer
its kind of in a corner but nothing in the room has had trouble receiving a signal from it
that bright IR light bounces off walls, its like a strobe light
I don't think the IR emitter has direct line of sight with any of my devices tbh, the light just reflects everywhere
damn guess it's super powerful lol
@young atlas have you configured it yet?
Nope the QR code fails. Can't be in 5ghz with your phone so I have to split my wifi into separate networks just to find it lol
I do have some tips for you when you eventually begin to configure it with home assistant
I can't help you there as I had zero trouble with the broadlink android app
The documentation for the broadlink is integration I found to be absolutely unusable at first
I had to watch this video in order to make sense of what was happening
however, the syntax being used in this video is wrong and doesn't work
My comment on this video, as "Matthew W", identifies the problems with syntax I was having and the correct syntax. The correct syntax can also be found on the integration documentation page, once the youtube video helped me get started
sorted π
Agree on that π
Watching now. Thanks a ton man, what good timing.
idk what you're using the IR blaster for, but for me I have devices I control on/off for
fans, portable ac, tv, apple tv, another fan
but there are also buttons where I need a non-binary state, like set LED red or perhaps for you channel up
setting an LED red as a switch like the way the youtube video is stupid because every time you add it in lovelace or whatever, it's got an on-off state
and thats not really how the LED strip works..
so I recommend being selective about whether you set something up as a switch if it has a binary on-off state (and Home assistant is GREAT at tracking whether the device is on or off unlike google assistant)
or if there is no binary state, make sure you write it in as a script instead
Dude this thing is hella wierd. Randomly it assigned a whole other subnet to the second device I have no idea how or why π€
this will all save you about 75% of the work I spent, banging my head against a wall trying to get it to work and then redoing all ~30 of my LED commands over again a number of times
I'm using .6.x for example and it gave it .16.x
Yeah I am using it to also bridge the gap in some of Siri's shortcomings so really excited for that
Definitely appreciate it
I want to see if I can trim down my config files to just have the mac address listed so it doesn't matter what the IP is
Is there any way to use Sonoff and Smart Life devices offline in HA, without flashing?
I have an older HTPC with an AMD A4-5000 APU in it. Would this perform better than the RPi4 I already have HA OS running on?
https://www.amd.com/en/product/5726
Yes
pure cpu performance appears to be similar though
Pi4 is around 900, A4-5000 is around 1280
So, about 1/3 faster
Ignoring the fact that everything isn't going over that USB bus
A Pi4 is apparently slightly slower than an Atom x5-Z8350 - which puts it at a "Passmark" speed of broadly 900. And that's probably about right; an order of 3 times the speed of the ancient Pentium 4 workhorse.
But, yeah, somewhere in that range anyway then
So I might see some improvements, but probably not that much? I also have an older Lenovo machine I'm considering. That seems even older though, and has a Intel Core 2 Duo E8400.
mostly anything will be an upgrade from a pi or an odroid tbh
in regards to reliability and scalability
It may not be night and day but I suspect you'll notice the boost
I found another PC here (snagged a couple Lenovo Workstations from my old workplace they were getting rid of) with a i5 2400, which should be a noticeable upgrade from the RPi. I'm not really having performance issues, but I've been unable to get my Pi to boot from an old SSD I have lying around (probably a bad adapter), and I'm a bit worried about SD cards failing on me.
Is Proxmox the recommended method, or perhaps Debian+Docker is just as easy?
It's up to you - some folks like Proxmox, some folks like Docker
Personally, Docker

:that:
recommended ceiling lamp with motion sensor ?
lamp with motion sensor ?
well...suppose this is the english word :)))
for something designed to be put on above wall :))
I think a picture will speak volumes here
not very happy of my motion sensor due to high refresh time
i need a fast responsive motion sensor
I've never seen anything like that
and I like to keep my lights and my motion sensors seperate
oh..don't remind me of bt
Anyway of connecting a BT speaker to HA as a media player?
hope to make a bt dongle soon for my bt devices with esp32
sounds like a horrible idea with the price of cast enabled speakers @upbeat belfry
usually anything from $10 and upwards can get you cast
How can I use cast to have HA playing music (lets say spotify) to an old receiver which connects to my speaker?
(I thought about connecting a BT Receiver with AUX ..)
any chromecast can accept that afaik
if your reciever has hdmi in
if not, diy is possible with a pi or similar
if you don't have hdmi there's the discontinued chromecast audio which you may find on ebay or something
It has hdmi of course.. any recommended cast device?
yeah the cheapest chromecast you can find
Thanks :)
Hi everybody, My system consists of a Rasperry pi 4 B as a hub connected to a router FRITZ!BOX 7560.. I need to extend my wlan network and add a Wi-Fi repeater in the basement. Can someone recommend me one that would work flawless without compatibility problems?
(I could not find nothing so far on the forum)
Thank you- that's super helpful. perhaps I'll try turning it into an integration for shits and giggles.
I'm not sure if this is the right channel to ask this in. When you make a room you can address all lights in a room with entity_id: light.room
I have some rooms with spaces in their name and it looks like HA is not making the general light entity for them
Any way around that?
Only thing it really needs would be MQTT Discovery support, then it's install and go
No. Entities can't have spaces. Also, that's a light.group #integrations-archived π
Ty, will move there
Please which hardware gateway can I run the hass software?
What are you actually looking for?
I need a gateway hub to run the hass system
Ok
any modern system
Hey all. Can someone check my thinking here? I'm thinking of using either a shelly 1 or a sonoff mini and installing it in the ceiling rose to automate a ceiling light, so I can turn it on and off by the switch and via HA. I'm wondering that if I then chose to put a smartbulb in that socket, could I make the Shelly or sonoff instead of switching the relay on noticing the wall switch state change it instead leaves the relay in the on position but sends a message to HA to turn the smart bulb on? Should I want to change the bulb I can then manually 'off' the relay from HA too? Is this doable?
I'm missing something. I removed a zwave switch so I could do a firmware update. When I removed it it was node 2. When I re-added it, it was node 7. Now, I get an error saying it is a duplicate named switch, and is being ignored by home assistant in the logs. Any ideas where to fix?
See #zwave-archived
I am trying to use device trackers with the Home Assistant app. My wife and I both have the app downloaded and are logged into the apps. When we look at the map on HA dashboard neither of our devices show up on the map. I have 2 people set for myself and her, with our devices picked as the tracked device.
@weak belfry Questions about a hardware device (not their #integrations-archived with HA, and not the thing that HA calls devices)? Someone might have the same device and be able to help you out! If you've got a Z-Wave or Zigbee devices, see #zwave-archived and #zigbee-archived, #cameras-archived for cameras, and #diy-archived for making your own stuff.

If you want to share images, use https://imgur.com/ or similar.
Please use https://www.hastebin.com/ or https://paste.ubuntu.com/ to share code or logs
You really need to learn to read those π
The map would be #integrations-archived
You probably also want to read the docs for the map integration
Maybe someday I'll get it right π
out of interest what tablets are people using for their wall panels these days, i'm going to be using a 3d floorplan.
I see a ton of 'best device to run HA on' I was wondering what performance metrics the recommendations are based on? I've got a few integrations and don't see many issues with my pi4. Hoping some of those who've ran it for awhile or have lots going on might be able to fill in the blanks on why it might be necessary
AH I see. I would imagine mostly used for camera local storage and the like? I could see that. You have any thoughts on VMs vs dedicated box? I enjoy the small ff of the pis
@young atlas I have seen many examples where its been used PI and SD Card, and from what I have read the SD Card should not be used for read/write that often and most likely will result in a corrupted SD card. I did experience this myself and migrated to Virtual Box and I have only good experience with it so far.
hey all ,after some assistance. I am trying to clean up my home assistant devices/entities, and I have some duplicates for my lights. I have 6 bulbs attached to Hue Bridge, but am also seeing a "Lights" integration with a couple of custom groups and then each of the 6 lights replicated
Any of the entities with the "Lights" integration are unable to be removed, am I better off removing the hue integration? I don't want the custom lights groups there either but can't figure out how to remove them
I added the hue bulbs through the integration, I'm still trying to get my head around the configuration.yaml file too. I've come from OH so this is all quite new to me still
Anyone using the Qingping CGG1 (BLE thermometer / hygrometer w/ E-Ink display)? Really impressed with it so far. Excellent build quality, the screen looks fantastic and the accuracy is on point as well.
Hey all, I'm trying to get one of these #tasmota #switches working properly in HA: https://templates.blakadder.com/gosund_SW6.html#Rule3. The page has the following info regarding setup for HA: ```
switch:
- platform: mqtt
name: "Exterior Lights"
state_topic: "stat/tasmota_XXXXX/POWER1"
command_topic: "cmnd/tasmota_XXXXX/EVENT"
availability_topic: "tele/tasmota_XXXXX/LWT"
qos: 0
payload_on: "ON"
payload_off: "OFF"
payload_available: "Online"
payload_not_available: "Offline"
I"m trying to figure out what info goes where XXXXX is.....Where would I get that from?
Could anyone recommend a smaller smart humidifier? Preferably something ESP8266 based so I can flash it with ESPHome. Iβve been searching online but canβt find anything promising. Any recommendations?
Anyone know of a zigbee plug that sends power off mqtt ? I.e someone hits a dumb switch and it sends a message before dying off
You can find this in the Tasmota firmware/GUI. I believe it is the string after the "DVES." Look in the Information or MQTT section. Have you tried auto-discovery using Tasmota integration or the MQTT integration? Those have been pretty reliable for me.
Hi everyone π Pretty new to setting up some of the Home Assistant stuff. I'm in a 2-story house, running Home Assistant on my Synology Nas using Docker. I'm looking at some Bluetooth devices (ie the Mi Flora) but the range on them is way too low to be able to reach my NAS, which is upstairs.
I've read a bit about ESPHome but I'm a bit confused what hardware I'd need. Can I use a Raspberry Pi as an ESP32 gateway for the Bluetooth devices to connect to, and then use MQTT to HomeAssistant? Any guides around for this sort of thing?
The esp32 would allow you to communicate via Bluetooth and/or WiFi, and home-assistant could integrate with the esp32 running esphome, but the raspberry pie wouldnβt be needed unless you want home-assistant to run on there instead
I havenβt found any examples for connecting to a Bluetooth device and exposing it as a WiFi device using esphome and home assistant, but i would be worried it might be difficult to fit the Bluetooth and WiFi stack on there with much else, or at least it has been an issue in the past
How can I make it so that if my TV is on then it sends a message to a certain Google device (It's a Nest Hub Max btw) to broadcast
@stiff wyvern #integrations-archived is the right channel to ask when integrating devices to HA. But the XXXXX will depend on your tasmota setup, but it's some sort of a identifying name you've put in there most likely
You'd need to have #integrations-archived for your TV (so you can detect it turning on) and Google Cast (cast), as well as either a tts #integrations-archived or something like Assistant Relay(https://github.com/greghesp/assistant-relay). Then with all that set up you'd write #automations-archived to make it happen.
See those channel's topics (top of the window) for useful links
That's the problem, idk how to setup Assistant Replay
Then use TTS instead
Assistant Relay has their own docs, and their own Discord server though
I tried TTS as well but idk how to use it either π im a noob
@pearl panther Discord isn't like IRC, you don't have to tag people on every response. Keep in mind that every time you tag somebody, they get a notification ping. That can very quickly become annoying and people may block you.
When using Discord's new Reply feature it defaults to pinging the person you reply to, click @ ON to @ OFF to stop this - on the right side of the compose bar.
Well, the answer to being a "noob" is to read the docs, try stuff out, and learn π
That's what everybody here did, since we all started there
Thanks i guess
So, if you're stuck setting up TTS, head over to #integrations-archived - use a code share site (see #rules ) to share what you did, and any errors, then explain your problem
Thanks

See that, on the right, when you use REPLY?
Click the damn thing to say @ OFF
Every time you don't, you send a notification ping
i did do that a while ago obviously it didnt save but im sorry for pinging you
yeah makes sense
k thanks
what are the cheapest smart led strips i can get? want to light up more of my bedroom without spending a mint on more hue stuff.

no problems
6t foot for $55? ;/
has anyone used iiglo smart products with HA
it's the device ID in tasmota, usually the MAC address of the device
Hey all.
So I recently setup device tracker on my mikrotik on the basis of wifi connection. But if my phone connects over to the extender it shows I'm away although I'm still connected.
I'm sure the extender is the problem.
I have an old mikrotik router board available that I can use but my question is how will I set this up so home assistant reads it correctly? An access point, repeater or another router?
Hello. I got the answer Dimmer WiFi smart wall switch without neutral cable not exists.
Can someone tell me then what is this?
it will work with that ugly piece (resistor) attached straight to the bulb
Just successfully got my venstart thermostat installed and integrated! Now to figure out how to automate it. π
Anyone help, My TP-link plugs have stopped working is HA ?
working on the kazza app tho

hello, i have installed HA on an odroid C2. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to use the GPIO of the ODROID in home assistant
How did you install it?

Hey! Anyone have any ideas for determining the occupancy of a rolling office chair?
trying to HASS-ify a floor heater
Weight sensor?
@spark glade something along these lines? https://selfhostedhome.com/diy-bed-presence-detection-home-assistant/
yes, but for a chair with wheels--that's why i'm not sure what would work
since that would depend on the chair being stationary
otherwise i'd do that
if you put the weight sensor under the seat it would work wouldn't it?
Put in a battery circuit and tie the battery in as a sensor so you know when it's getting low and needs a recharge
hmmmmm, where under the seat exactly?
directly under the cushion I'd think
that would work if these seats had a cushion
lemme go grab a photo, brb
Sorry about having to post as a link
couldn't send an image
what's it look like right under the seat?
Sorry for taking so long to respond
The only contact between the seat and base is four bolts
Correct me if I'm wrong but looking at the way the sensors work you should be able to affix them to the bottom of the seat's fabric

the weight applied to the sensor should cause the resistance change
Ok hmmm thanks
Weird request, and unrelated to Home Assistant, but strangely I can't turn off my lights with my voice (Nest Hub) but I can with the screen
Anyone else have that issue?
There's a Google Home outage
Something to be said for not being cloud dependent. π
Has anyone tried the C by GE wifi lights with Home Assistant?
I did, but found hue was easier and wanted to be on one brand. Returned them.
oof
Did you have the wifi C by GE lights or the Bluetooth ones?
It was the direct connect ones
What would be appropriate channel for asking this question:
What are some of the benefits of flashing for example a sonof s31 smart plug with energy monitoring? I've seen discussions about flashing to esphome or tasmota.
Is this the right room for a quick template help?
How did you connect them to HA? there's no GE integration.
thanks @winged knoll I don't know how in the world I over looked that lol
ugh
I really should go to bed

I am looking HA or zigbee compatible outdoor temperature / humidity sensor, but I can't find info about supported devices for this purpose. Any recommendations?
what u have?
Look at the pinned hardware lists in #zigbee-archived
I was looking here https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/information/supported_devices.html but I didn't find
what u have???
What do you mean?
kwladykaToday at 5:15 PM
sure, I have, but I can't find the device
I have zigbee adapter and it works. I am trying to find the device for Wi-Fi or zigbee which is outdoor sensor for temperature and humidity.
so hard to say what adapter ?
There's another list pinned in that channel π
*which is not powered with batteries, because it wouldn't work too long π
Doesn't matter, all that matters is the integration π
Zigbee battery sensors can run for a couple of years easily
sure, but I don't believe outdoor considering winter etc.
very curious what is the gateway towards HA :))
look for diy
I definitely don't want to build my own devices π
But probably there are such devices. Just not added to the list.
Plenty of folks have done that π
I know a few who use the Xiaomi one outdoors, out of the rain
rain is not a problem, winter drain battery
so... go for weather station
If it survives Norwegian winters... you'll be fine
I have to find research for battery life depends on temperature then π But anyway if someone use such device please share what you use.
or check local weather on net
yes but I found this is far away from true π
I don't think I need such professional device π
I don't know. Maybe because of the average and kilometers different to my location.
i'm lucky..i have 4km distance from a meteo station
Howdy folks π Iβve been looking at different solutions for whole home audio. I see that the monoprice 6-zone amplifier has an integration with home assistant. With this, would I be able to ask my voice assistant (Alexa) to play music in a particular room?
How did you connect them to HA? there's no GE integration.
Hi all, just a question why I have ma mobile ios phone to diffΓ©rent name _1, _2, _3
?
there is documentation that explains?
hi how do i enable i2c communication on Pi4 on DS2482 i am going according to the manual https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/onewire/
config.txt file ..
but HA does not display any i2C in HARDWARE
can't you help me
There is no support for other device types (families) and hence this onewire platform only supports temperature measurements from family 28 devices.
https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/onewire/
manual I support DS2408 DS2406
I need it mainly on DS2408
manual is wrong?
doesn't matter, the docs say HA on Rpi only loads mods for 1w temp devices (class 28), at least that's what I interpret in there
@pallid cloak how many alexa devices do you have? You could just use the Alexa device. You can specify rooms for Alexa to play in, or have Alexa play on all devices.
The onewire platform supports sensors which that using the One wire (1-wire) bus for communication.
Every 1-wire device has a (globally) unique ID that identifies the device on the bus. The first two digits identify a device family and the last 14 digits are a globally unique number given to it during manufacturing.
Different families have different functionality and can measure different quantities.
Each 1-wire component data sheet describes the different properties the component provides. The owfs software adds some extra tools to make it easier for DIY implementers to use the component.
SUPPORTED DEVICES:
Binary sensors:
Family Device Physical Quantity
12 DS2406 2 sensed (sensed.A/B) 4
29 DS2408 8 sensed (sensed.0-7) 4
why am i writing that it supports DS2408 and DS2406 ??
please
You don't have to copy and paste from the docs
Doing that just floods the channel and annoys folks π
so how do i find the answer ??
SSDs good?
home assistant
Home Assistant is software, it doesn't know whether you're using an SSD or not
SSD > SD card for sure
SSD > HDD?
Yes
I mean, that's a general statement
Generally speaking faster storage is better than slower storage
Im looking at upgrading my $30 seagates to some SSDs
Any recommendation on smart outlets and whether there are specific needs for handling higher loads (e.g., a 1500W space heater) - USA, protocol and budget don't matter nearly as much as reliability and safety)
See the pinned messages
good evening, kinda new to home assistant. I have it running on my local server in ~ORACLE. I was wondering how to get the alarm control panel, im being asked to select a suitable entity...no idea what that would be though. Any ideas?
That'd be an #integrations-archived you configure π
See https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations#alarm and the #integrations-archived channel
Thanks @winged knoll
Any recommendations for buying an e27 smart bulb? I would like one that's less then hue. I like zigbee and I'm Austrian. I like good color reproduction. (like green being actually green, not the yellowish something from tradfri)
Hey, technical electronics question for folks. I have a dimmable MR16 LED (7.5watt) in a lighting fixture that is not dimmable. The power supply on the lighting fixture (pictured here: https://i.imgur.com/I01ku3e.jpg) outputs 12v 2a DC power. Can anybody point out a dimmable 12v 2a power supply I can buy? I will wire the lamp to it myself.
less than hue? you mean in terms of price?
I'm interested in that too and can I use a Pi 3 B instead of 4 B?
Hey! Does anyone know how I can add the kasa light strip through HA? It's not showing up under my kasa integration...
See #integrations-archived (and the channel topic here)
@cedar venture yes so maybe up to 30ish bucks
maybe just a h801 ?
what would you advice to improve zigbee connection between cc2531 and Tradfri (basic rotary controller)
- cc2530 + cc2591 router
- swap cc2531 for other model with external antenna
- ikea router
- ikea controller with multiple buttons (is it any better)
- anything else?
at least cc2538 + cc2592 amp
ok from what I see that will be necessary a coordinator thus replacing the 2531, but no USB so I guess I also need a a usb to TTL ? Or may I can wire it directly to the RPI GPIOs ?
not sure about that. i like usb π
https://es.aliexpress.com/item/1005002096830902.html for example this one has usb but not sure whether that can be used for communication or only for firmware uploading
i will install that in next 2 days, but with an usb port added
and is a zigbee radio....but needs programming
so try to buy a ready-to-use
I have a CC programmer but yes better get a USB ready dongle, looking at https://slae.sh/projects/cc2652/#
the best
Best place for Zigbee advice is #zigbee-archived π
I felt that was coming π
Not sure if this is the right channel to ask this. @plush orbit you mentioned a streamdeck plugin in the last live stream. Where can I get this or is it just the webhook or websocket plugin?
Hopefully my Q belongs in here. I already did use google, but that did not help.
I would like to follow the directions as outlined in https://community.home-assistant.io/t/monitor-your-hikvision-nvr/92760
I says: "Create your sensors: (sensors.yaml)". I do not have the clue of an idea on how and where to do that. Any help highly appreciated. TIA
That'd be #integrations-archived
OK, but how?
Well, you'd head over to that channel, and then somebody can help you π
some affordable air quality sensor indoor (50$) recommendation ?
Anyone have opinions on the iris 3460-L? I believe they are zigbee. Can get them for about $6 on eBay
ehck yeah i was wondering if such a thing existed just the other day and if not was onna work on building just that haha
Anyone knows TRV that can be fed from external temperature sensor instead of built-in one (don't care about protocol - I'll adapt)? I know that there's Danfoss Ally that will partially do that with ZHA integration (https://community.home-assistant.io/t/danfoss-ally-trv-working-with-remote-temp-sensor/276686) but I wonder if there's something that won't do avg from built-in sensor and external one.
Hey just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for the best way to integrate the Monoprice 6 Zone Amp with Homekit. I am able to turn zones on and off but was wondering if changing this media player to a class of media player TV would solve the issue of being able to select the source and control the volume, etc. Anyone have experience with doing this? I've tried posting on the Reddit page and searching on Google but couldn't find anyone that had done something similar
is there a way to "clean" old devices that have been removed? I have quite a few that wont let me delete them because they say they are still being populated by the integration (MQTT)... but, they no longer exist...
Any recommendations for an AC that integrates well with Home Assistant? I got some from Gree but its painful to set up those
i ended up using an IR "remote" to send commands...
i was going to flash to tasmota and write rules and get fancy with it... but we only use that window AC for like 3 months of the year...
that's what I'd do but these Gree that I got use Wifi with their closed protocol, the way to set them up is by using their buggy mobile app that doesn't recognize two of them but the other is recognized but I can't issue any command π
know what controller chip it uses? (possibly swap for an ESP-12E or F... get super fancy with it π
also... void your warranty...
indeed, I'm trying to avoid that, I'll be buying a new one soon and I'm still looking for more compatible options
check integrations
was that meant for me?

Looking at hardware for flashing tasmota onto my s31s. Will this do the trick? https://amzn.to/2MW0bi9
kind of the wrong... well, channel in general... BUT.... yes, that would work... Just make sure to set it to 3.3V (looks like the default for that guy is 5v... you'll fry your modules with 5v)
and what is an S31?
Sonoff plug with energy monitoring
Do you (or anyone else) have any issues getting instantaneous energy usage reports from the Salus SP600 smart plugs? I'm getting good reporting for 5 minutes or so, then it just stops until I force it to turn off and on again - which isnt ideal for the load I want to monitor π
Description says questions about hardware devices. There is no tasmota channel unfortunately
yeah, there is...
No but I was looking into it. I thought it was only ota for updates?
hop over to the channel i just posted... ill talk to you about it there.
Oh yeah I meant no channel here in this discord. Appreciate the link though
well, again... this isnt really the place...
but yes, you should be able to flash that thing OTA with tuya-convert
if you have a raspberry pi
i think 3 or better...
Ok Iβll talk to you there. Yes I do
go to beginner questions
so many wrong answers π
go back to your hole old man
well you're completely misguiding a promising young soul
can his not be flashed?
i want everyone to be as angry as me π
some people just want to watch the world burn...
ah, after a touch of research, i see the S31s have never been able to be flashed OTA over to tasmota...
Ah k ok
Noob question (sorry) what are the benefits if any of using rpi4 over rpi3 for hosting HA?
Sorry i haven't had any issue with mine π¦
Can anyone (UK) recommend a nice motion sensor that only picks up peoples
ideally would be nice if it could monitor the temp of the room too (so i dont need to buy that too..)
as for price no more than Β£20 per item

Hi Guys. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction in terms of what channel to ask this. I am running the latest version of HA (feb 2020). I have a deconz conbee II stick but running this using ZHA. All my devices connect and are running OK. I am trying to pair a ZigBee CC2530 + CC2592 Long Range Router as I have a few outdoor things. https://shop.codm.de/bundles/zigbee/router/25/zigbee-cc2530-cc2592-long-range-router-bundle-9cm/2.5dbi?c=7 I have two. Neither will pair despite the light sequences suggesting they are in the pairing mode. It simply does complete the interview. I have looked in the logs but nothing stands out. Any help would muchly be appreciated π
I have the philips ones. I have tried the others. Issues with others I found was the delay before it can detect movements again. Aqara and Bosch took too long. Philips just work.
Have used the Gledopto's throughout my house
I have one. While I do not use Alexa I use Google. the Monoprice amp is a solid, reliable solution and just works
hi, has anyone seen this device before? https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=588569778453 (it's a "smart" LED batten that is advertised to work with Mijia)
does anyone know if it might work with home-assistant?
You'd want to be asking for help with Zigbee in the #zigbee-archived channel π
Thanks, phillips are quite pricy haha
Aqara take too long? My lights are on before I'm done opening doors
Both door and motion sensors are instant
hacked ones ?
No
i bought one to try, with some luck it'll use the usual mi home protocol and then it should be pretty easy to reverse engineer..
As explained in the channel topic, that'd be for #integrations-archived π
sorry, it's been a long night!
Anybody out there able to read Kamstrup Multical 21 water meter?
It has wireless M-Bus (but secured, hard/impossible to get the key from my water supplier) and it has IR interface.
Simple read-out like pulses would already be enough for me.
I was in contact with their support back when I had one of those installed.
I found the specs for the IR interface somewhere, but it needs to be activated with a magnet.
I was worried it may drain the battery to keep it on, so I wanted to ask what they thought.
They didn't know, but thought it was a cool project. Then I had kids... and suddenly it's five years later...
Psssh, kids are no obstacle, my daughter loves tinkering with me in my garage
Let's see when and if number two arrives
Yeah, but it's easy to just loose focus for a moment.
I read about the magnet, but not really sure where to put.
There are some implementations out there for Multical IR interface, but usually heat/energy. Not the water thing. π
Here's what they sent me
...
I think the water meter is exactly the same as their gas meter, which is probably a more popular project to monitor.
My daughter is unpredictable outside @jovial pulsar but inside I can let her do and go wherever she wants, at worst she comes to me with something she finds and asks if I want it, I know other kids are not as easily predictable
Tbh, she is untrustable outdoors
what is this daughter #device you're talking of π
spawn child process, enter monitoring mode, avoid zombie child processes and limit CPU cycles
some sort of diy project I guess
To be fair, it was a multi person project, with a lot of commits and reconnects
Are you using chromecast audio with the amp to cast music or some other solution?
How can I integrate into the Home Assistant the Aqara g2h camera? Besides a camera, it is a Zigbee v3 coordinator. Any clues?
That'd be a topic for #cameras-archived (for the camera part). You can't use it as a Zigbee coordinator though
I tried to integrate as Zigbbe coordinator through Xiaomi Aqara Gateway integration; but it was not possible because HA does not find the gateway
Is 20-40% battery loss in zwave/ zigbee devices normal after a few days/ weeks of use? My living room zwave motion sensor went from 100% to 80%, my aqara temp sensor outside went from 100% to 74% and my temp sensor in the freezer went from 100% to 64%
depends on if you can trust those numbers. My aqara sensors have gone for a year or two without a battery swap
I'm guessing they are just reporting the battery wrong
Is Philips motion really the best one? feel so $$$
I have a Zwave motion sensor that has been working flawlessly. other than the wild battery reporting once in a while lol
Get the aqara then
no idea where to ask this, but figured you all might know
can you use an M2 E Key Coral Edge TPU in an M2 M key slot with an adapter?
Tuya app
Hnm
if you're looking for zigbee stuff, check out #zigbee-archived and the topic there and ask there if you need more help @little sentinel
Oh come on...anyone? π I'll buy Dansfoss Ally if I won't find anything better but it would be great to know if there's actually nothing better out there.
Hey im having an issue with a RFID device im using esp-rfid with. I can get the tag to scan and register, but Home Assistant isint picking up the MQTT information.
That is correct. I use mine for motion sensors. It takes several seconds before it will allow another motion.
Yes. Chromecast and analogue inputs. Works great. solid.
Ah ok. Thanks for confirming.
Chromecast audio BTW. I have 4 seperate inputs I think
I'm having a problem with one of my merkury smart bulbs. It's showing up as a switch and not a light. I'm using Tuya to control them.
That is... Not really an issue, but can be fixed with a hack
Clamp type meter with multiple single/ groups of 3 phases for power measurement (to put inside fusebox) available in Europe. Any ideas?
Would like at least 3 clamps, with room to grow, diy might be best??
I guess I better get soldering then
Saw a youtube video that had a board with 6 channels
Would be nice to have 3 channels for net in/ out, 3 channels for in from solar (in future) and multiple channels for washer, dryer, dishwasher etc. So probably 2 of those 6 channel boards, stacked.
An esp32 can handle 18 ADC inputs
If I don't set my fur on fire , it will be a fun project
Should be glod to go with 12 channels then
Ty for the help
I could probably design you a custom PCB and print case
I might ask you to do that when it is time
:D
I am so looking forward to house. So much stuff can be automated
Hi guys. After a planned poweroff of my hassio running on rpi4, I have lost access to my raspbee and my whole zigbee network. Google results seems to indicate I need to firmware update the raspbee, but I seem to be unable to connect. Has anyone else run into same issue?
Sounds unlikely, but #330990055533576204 and #zigbee-archived will know
Ah didnt read topic of the channel sorry. Thanks!
Just bought two shelly 1s. I'm able to control them via he assistant using the native integration. But when I turn them on or off using the remote, the state doesn't change in home assistant. Anyone know why?
Im using hue dimmer switches, but the battery level it reports seems wildly inaccurate, and even increases over time. I ran some graphs and now I can see it seems directly correlated with the environment temperature... any explanation for this?
So, looking at getting a smart thermostat for my heat pump/furnace. I'd prefer local control over cloud control. Looking for opinions on what would work best with HA. Zwave vs wifi, etc...
In Canada if that matters. I also have a common wire...
battery voltage indeed tends to react to ambient temperature
How is this an improvement over just popping a NodeMCU into a breadboard?
Finished pins and a barrel plug, and most breadboards are just big enough for a nodemcu @naive nacelle
Also $1
Hmm, haven't had any issues with the size of a Node MCU on my breadboards. Plenty of space on either side...
And I have breadboard barrel plugs. lol
Even my smallest breadboard still leaves one row of pinholes on either side of the NodeMCU
And you can use the connections under the module. lol
Any good room temprature device you guys can advice me

Maybe someone can assist me. I have an Aqara zigbee switch paired to conbee 2 dongle using the ZHA integration. My issue is the switch will work for a few hours then stop. I've looked at logs and I can't find anything. I thought it maybe a definitive switch, so I replaced it.... Same problem. I then tried paring it to a sonoff s31 thinking it's interference of some sort. Same thing.....
Is there any advanced logs that may shed some light on the problem?
Lol no pun intended....
Sounds like #zigbee-archived π
Any decent alternatives to philips hue gu10 lamps?
Are they loads cheaper
@winged knoll what's the alternative? I really don't want Wifi, because I already have 55 - 65 wifi devices.
#zigbee-archived is the channel you want to be asking for help with your #zigbee-archived integration and devices
@fallow hemlock Questions about a hardware device (not their #integrations-archived with HA, and not the thing that HA calls devices)? Someone might have the same device and be able to help you out! If you've got a Z-Wave or Zigbee devices, see #zwave-archived and #zigbee-archived, #cameras-archived for cameras, and #diy-archived for making your own stuff.
Problems with the Blue? See #330990055533576204

@strong coral I don't use RGB,but gledopto does
Thanks.. Will look into them
Hi Guys, is there any Thermostats that are more likely then other be compatible with Homeassistant?
Well, anything that you can connect to works
ZigBee and zwave preferred
Ha doesn't care
Zigbee Thermostats a thing?
There are Zigbee ones
See the lists of hardware pinned in #zigbee-archived
what you guys using?
will be moving in few months and can go in whichever direction, gas heating only
I asked this a while ago. I think Beca was suggested a few times (no cloud, which was a requirement for me). Wifi not Zigbee though
thank I saw that on ebay assumed it was underflor heating only
Loads of models so would need to figure out what is what - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ZigBee-Smart-Thermostat-Programmable-APP-Voice-Control-for-Alexa-Google-Home/303657904384?hash=item46b36be900:g:0lsAAOSwppFfOlXi
Tuya zigbee thermostats
Thermostats aren't a thing here, but zigbee2mqtt has eaten everything I throw at it
the github seems to explain things a bit better than the ebay/amazon pages
Anyone have exp w/ intesishome integration ? I have the login part working. I have customize.yaml setup, and included with the info for the 3 controllers I have. But I'm just not sure how to make it visible in lovelace, or home assistant app..
So, I finally have a sonoff sv hooked up to my gate, when you send Power On it pulses on and off which triggers the gate to start moving, when the gate is not closed I have a mqtt status of {"Switch1":{"Action":"OFF"}} when it is closed I have {"Switch1":{"Action":"ON"}}.
Is there a forum post anyone can send me to that has configuration for showing gate state and pushbutton to open/close it?
Ok, got it working as a cover... not 100% ideal but it'll do for now
If I was to use one of these a no neutral version, could I technically wires it to the switch and neutral and not put the L switch to the switch and put something on that so its permantly on and then use a zigbee bulb to make the pressed turn on and off? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001178298316.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.1da442ffsFQvH5&algo_pvid=96a447aa-acd7-4d6b-9138-b45c8deb0952&algo_expid=96a447aa-acd7-4d6b-9138-b45c8deb0952-8&btsid=2100bddd16127820393878344e1641&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_
I know hue are bringing there's out next year albeit this is powered and lot cheaper
I do question if this wlll have the same UK electrical safety certificates also
it's "CE" labled π€£
Hey I just did Radiant flooring in my house (with a floor sensor slab sensor) I'm looking for a themorstat that can connect wifi and with HomeAssistant to control the floor / heat in those rooms. What do you recommend I do?
@green tundra See the pinned messages
welp someone told me to ask here
I'm in the USA, budget is I'm not sure but whatever market rate is. Thermostat for heated floor floor senbsor
Yeah, and the pinned message gives you questions to answer π
Because knowing that you're in the USA is helpful, and avoids folks suggesting EU only options π
thank you π
Hi all, new to this community but not to HA, I'm looking for advice for smart rgb bulbs for my house, seems like I need something that is Tuya compatible? But that some of the new firmwares are also not compatible. Lookong for more info and bulb recommendations. Looking for a bang for buck, not hue, but still good quality. Located in the US. No protocol preferences since starting from scratch with these. Would be great to have the ability to set up fun scenes. Thanks!
See the pinned messages π
Thanks, edited
HA noob here. What's the smallest + cheapest wifi push button/pushbutton out there? Something to "stick" to surfaces, like https://www.tindie.com/products/aprbrother/abutton-v3-push-button-based-on-esp32-pico-d4/ Prefer Single buttons or 2/3/4-gang boxes would work. Looking for NA/US sources due to shipping costs. @ mention me when replying please. Thx!
Anyone know if there are any conversion kits for shades that just connect to an existing chain? Preferably z-wave?
I'm trying to get a DHT22 sensor working, in Home Assistant, Docker version, on a raspberry Pi 4. But I'm getting nowhere. I read about others having similar problems, but I cannot find any solutions out there. I have put the correct parameters in my configuration.yaml file (- platform: dht, sensor: DHT22, pin: 4). I do understand that I should enable GPIO access from within my docker continer. But I'm still in the dark regarding Docker. I read how to create a container, which option to add for GPIO to work, but it's already created and I just want to add this option. I cannot recreated it the way it is now working, because I cannot retrieve what the original parameters were. I don't see how to uptdate the startup parameters of a running container. Some pages write about a docker-compose.yaml file, but thers is no such file on my system. I followed a lot of leads, but all of them lead to a dead end. I guess I first need to learn how exactly this Docker thing works before I can fix this. Does anyone have a suggestion how to continue?
You can search for the long answer, but it's got a track record of screwing things up
Oh... not "install"
"portainer track record of screwing things up" well, that returned no useful results π
I've a headless install, no desktop, only SSH access. Lightweight was the concept. There must be ways to use the command-line to specify an option. Is there a method to retrieve with which options a container was created? And where is it stored? And is there some configuration file? And how does the system know which containers and how to start them when I reboot my system?
GUI in a browser
@rustic orchid there is a container to get the run command used to recreate it
Let me find it
It wasn't this one, but it does the same thing it seems
Also, docker-compose is bae
I need to replace a bunch of Smart Switches. Im US based and was using Leviton Decora Wifi switches. They have now blocked my account and IP from accessing due to repeated login requests. Anyone have good experience with the inovelli switches? They look very cool, but never heard of them before.
Cool I was just now looking at Red Series Dimmer Switch (Z-Wave)
Xiaomi 4 lyfe, none of that zwave nonsense
hey, i am invested at this point... sunk cost and all π
tell that to my pile of Leviton
aquara or something?
OK let me have a look
I bought three zwave devices and realized this is for chums
you guys are on a roll tonight
When I could get four zigbee devices for the same price as one zwave
so you're broke? π I can send you some of my spares.. I have 2 RED dimmers still in the box hahah
Nah, I just don't like wasting money, I'll survive with my measly income
hehe yeah... If I could pull the plug and swap to zigbee I think I would
So the Aqara ones require a hub?
zwave ~also~ requires a dongle/stick
#zigbee-archived has more info, I use the cc1352p2 with zigbee2mqtt
With about 100 devices
yes I have a zwave stick (HomeSeer)
Wait... prices are about same as inovelli unless there is a better place to buy then Amazon
AliExpress
I think I got mine directly from inovelli
how much of a hurry are you in to commit?
couple weeks at most
I'd be willing to send you one of my dimmers to test... they've been sitting here for a few months
but if you are going to go zwave, there's probably no need, since they are so much better than regulars
I would have no problem buying them if you want, DM me
Hi, can i flash custom firmware to sonoff dw2?
I want to use it as sonoff switch (basic)
It was not the GPIO access of Docker after all. I got the DHT22 working now!
I entered the Docker container with
sudo docker exec -it homeassistant /bin/bash
and then edited the file
vim /usr/local/lib/python3.8/site-packages/Adafruit_DHT/common.py
to replace line 63 with:
return Raspberry_Pi_2```
The restart Home Assistant, and the DHT22 sensor entities show up.
My bathroom has a light attached to a fan, both are controlled by a single switch.
I would like to have a dimmer on the light, but doing so causes the fan to "dim" as well, which is no good. A smart bulb would go dark when the fan is switched off, which is also no good. What are my options for devices?
I have a Lutron Caseta Dimmer switch, so my thought is to get some IoT relay and wire that into the fan and turn it on and off with automation. But there may be a better solution, and I am sure you guys would know about it.
Hello... I am really new... Please tell me where to post this question if it's the wrong place...
I want to create an entity that I can show on the dashboard as a "gauge" and want to update it's values using a rest call to the Home Assistant API..... Any tips on how to start setting this up?
I have NO idea π¦ I am very confused and looking for help here as my last resort π¦ After lots of documentation reading)
Can anyone recommend me a door sensor that I can upload ESPHome firmware?
@fallow python what is it you want to measure ? It makes little sense to API call yourself instead of just reading the value
It's a network speed test which I need to run on the server itself....
My raspberry pi (where ha runs) isn't capable of measuring anything higher than 300 Mbps.
So I have a nodejs server running on one of my daemons to do a speed test async and send the results to ha
Oh and I figured it out at like 3am lol
It works now :D
It could have all been alleviated by running on anything else than a pi though π€£
Have a button to call the service to invoke the test
Yeah but why would I change the bars metal /os/system for ha that doesn't need anything like 300mbps connections just so I can run a speed test natively when there are so many servers that do these things constantly all day as a service
(not speed tests, but other services are given constantly)
So very easy to set up a tiny new service in one of my main load balancing servers directly instead of on some random other server that runs ha
I don't trust pi's, and I have standards is just all π€£
Main reason to not trust pi's?
Depends how you handle them. Unforseen hardware failure is the only thing that can really break it usually other than user error.
And hardware failure can happen to any hardware)
u can avoid hw failure running servers
There's nothing about standards. It's about what someone needs. Everyone needs different levels of reliability / size / power / etc.
No you can't avoid hardware failures in any setup. You can only have redundancy to avoid the bad consequences.
pi is for toying
When you work in enterprise you end up not trusting single power systems with shitty storage subsystems
I lose nothing other than a few minutes of inconvenience if my ha dies. Have a load of extras to just spin up in half an hour. And for messing around as a first time user using ha for less than 2 days, I really don't care about reliability. I just want to play with it.
We have an inhouse too for everything essential for many years. This is just to handle useless things like lights and stuff so I can see how it's interface is so I can learn good ways of adding the same features to our inhouse system
Yeah and who said I'm doing life and death high availability tasks with a pi lol
And when you don't need that trust, you simply don't need trust.
want to see you with a broken pi with no backup being up in 2 days with 250 sensors, 4000 entities and 650 automations :)))
I have become biased by working on 100% uptime systems for 15 years
You sound like a stand up kind of person :) great to see to you as one of the first people on this community!
I have just 2 shelly relays running 3 led's on my table. And now this speed test.
That's amazing! Nobody in the world has worked FIFTEEN YEARS on those! π¨π¨
Eh, it's not hard
I have had servers with uptime of 10 years, so not far from the truth
It just takes a bit of money and planning
he is a cat has 9 lives and basically he worked 1,5 year in every life in paralel
And good hardware runs forever π
Services however, those are easily 15 years
Service uptime of 100% has been achievable for 20+ years
Always funny when you have to explain that it was sarcasm. But maybe because of where I'm from, it's hard to decipher.
Sarcasm in text is hard...

I suppose, if the parties involved are at very different levels of r/IAmVerySmart
Or not British
Norwegian you say...
Reminded me of some forums where you ask a question, then get everyone telling them how the question is wrong and what a better question is, all the while waiting to actually get an answer :D
Well, if you can change the question it might be easier to answer, so that's fair
But good thing I figured it out already hehe
And the original answer was MQTT FYI
Would it really be, for my situation?
I tried mqtt yesterday. Then removed it since I needed cloud on my shelly anyway to use alexa until i make the skill for it on aws
How would that workflow go exactly?
Yeah, if you want to get data into HA from random things, don't use the API, use MQTT
Using the API requres you embed authentication for all of HA in your remote devices
Using MQTT doesn't
Yeah I suppose I've just been trying to avoid it lol
MQTT is useful for connecting many things to HA
I do my Bluetooth presence detection that way, my Zigbee, and more π
Well, either if you're chilled you set it to anon, no auth; or you create users in your broker
But, all they can do is use the broker, and you can lock accounts down AFAIK
(Not that I bother, if somebody hacks my network I've got bigger worries than my broker)
Yes, there we go, https://mosquitto.org/man/mosquitto-conf-5.html
I have actually set that for the anon account, so that all it's allowed to do is read the broker status topic - handy for Docker healthchecks
Cool :) thank you β€οΈ
I feel my REST will still be easier for me due to how quickly I can add to my existing daemons.
Instead of setting up mqtt on each server /node
For smart tiny devices, I'm sure ans know mqtt is definitely the way to go. Just unsure about servers + computers.
Yes, which I know how to make in HA
Yea, I will have to see the difference in how quick, size-wise and easy it is to setup a device to start sending MQTT payloads compared to REST (where I do nothing but add a name, url and payload, the rest if there, including auth)
A tiny bit more effort, you'd need to add a line calling mosquitto_pub with a topic, payload, and authentication
Oh, hang on... no change in effort
Okay
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I'm just at this side of the wall and it's nice and cosy π
π€£
xD
Bonus - anything can use those payloads
If you want to be really lazy you can even have the device send an MQTT Discovery payload https://www.home-assistant.io/docs/mqtt/discovery/ to create the sensor/switch/whale
Can you think of any technology / programming language / system that CANNOT send an MQTT packet with only that much effort?
Windows?
I'm trying to convince you to say "oh yeah in that case just use REST"
More seriously, if you can send using REST you can send using MQTT
ALL User computers use Windows here...
