thanks for your help! I really appreciate it. I haven't gotten to the bottom yet, but honestly I wouldn't have even considered the auroras as the cause, considering I'd never "seen" them be affected without physical interaction. now that I've got that figured out, I just need to figure out why π thanks again!
hey ho, i have integrate zigbee and add xiaomi aqara devices.. f,e humidity and temperature but they dont update the status
@reef gale Please DO NOT cross post. Read the channel description, post it and wait for folks to respond.
@winged knoll yeah but the first channel was wrong π¦
No
Questions about a hardware device (not their #integrations-archived with HA, and not the thing that HA calls devices)? Someone might have the same device and be able to help you out! If you've got a Z-Wave or Zigbee devices, see #zwave-archived and #zigbee-archived, #cameras-archived for cameras, and #diy-archived for making your own stuff.
Problems with the Blue? See #330990055533576204

not their #integrations-archived with HA,
anyone here use inovelli black/red dimmers and had luck/not luck with 3 way situations?
i havent tried them since the initial fail, but tried the 3 way switches and using a 'dumb' switch made the whole thing not work... realizing now i may have needed to change parameters to 3 way!
If anyone had a similar experience though, would be helpful
I have a Shelly 1 -- I just learned about them recently. I hooked up a single-pole setup elsewhere and it's working fine.
I have a 3 - 4 - 3 way switch setup in the garage. The lights are connected to one 3-way, and the LINE in connects to the other 3-way. I came to a realization this morning that I might need a Shelly 2 or 2.5 or whatever the minimum is with 2 relays, so I'd have 2 outputs for each traveler on the target 3-way switch on the LINE end. Does this make sense or am I looking at it wrong? Or is there a way to do this with my Shelly 1?
Thanks π
I'm looking for 12V downlight modules that have CCT. I saw the Zigbee ones like Gledopto (thx Blakadder), but they come with a led controller. The controller only seems to have 2 wires going out of it. So I'm guessing it's just a AC/DC converter and not the actual zigbee module, would I be correct in that? Does anyone know any other options that I could possibly run from DC power?
After hardware mod of my aqara sensor it died lol
U cant soldier wrong a 2mm trail
Apparently you can
I certainly can π
I cant because i do things like this daily π
I did undo it but it flashes 2 times and thats all
I about broke the entire fucking thing just trying to get it apart
I think I did break it but I smashed it back together well enough
Able to take a picture?
Wait.. one is alive but its not updating every 5s
Tp4 to switch leg, or am I wrong?
You are right. I am sure you are looking at the same picture as everyone else. I just wanted to see yours
I cant send it here
imgur
Please use imgur or other image sharing web sites, and share the link here.
Pissed all over it to make sure its connected, but it works like it was before
No, its not connected to anything else. Ive checked it
anyone interested in a 15 node Xandem Dev Kit before I throw it on ebay (figured this community would make better use of it)
wouldnt normally mention it - but you cant get them anywhere, so HA crew gets 1st dibs
Thats only a teardrop to connect this TP4 to button leg
π₯²
Does anyone know any devices like this that might be compatible with home assistant? https://www.lowes.com/pd/ecolight-6-Pack-3-in-Battery-Puck-Light-with-Remote/1000567671?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-lit-_-google-_-lia-_-143-_-cabinetandaccentlighting-_-1000567671-_-0&placeholder=null&ds_rl=1286981&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIicj0toqp7gIV1BmtBh369wRLEAQYAyABEgJcrvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
@mint edge I suppose, if you connect up an IR blaster in range.. but that's about the only option based on the specs I just read of those lights.
Hope I've unerstood your question π
Do you know shelly? they have a wifi-switch, which do not need neutral and works fine with HA (no need to flash) and you can operate them without a cloud.
https://shelly.cloud/products/shelly-1l-single-wire-smart-home-automation-relay/
I've started playing with some switches and rotary dials on raspberry pi.. set up a webhook to dim/bright my lights 10% per dial click, and that got me thinking! I want to build a physical control box. Buttons and dials that can sit on my desk (and coffee table) and control random things. Any device recommendations? All I know about is the pi, really. There's some ESP32-based things, which seem interesting, but I don't want every single device connected to a unique ESP32 which requires wifi - crowding the spectrum and degrading wifi performance. So I'm leaning toward a box with lots of buttons/switches wired to a pi zero. Or two, if I run out of GPIO pins π
Any other clever options? EDIT: oh I do have z-wave and zigbee.. maybe there's an ESP32 like thing that speaks those..
Oh wow, learning about 433MHz receivers.. seems I can get a bunch of buttons like this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001062637644.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.4d836d0ecLgmlX&algo_pvid=faa2d198-58de-4952-8ef1-b7fa7af7026b&algo_expid=faa2d198-58de-4952-8ef1-b7fa7af7026b-1&btsid=0bb0623c16111030360342106e5a47&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_ and use the hass RFXtrx integration to do whatever..
I guess this belongs in #diy-archived π
does home assistant use the app called wyze for smart devices ?
i dont have any home assistant apps, i just use the wyze app
What's your actual question then?
how can i use home assistant with my wyze app
You can't
ok
ok
If you're wanting HA to connect to your Wyze devices then you'd want to ask in #integrations-archived about how that's one
Anyone know if the Aqara temp+hum sensor will hop on a hue bridge?
it just says it's zigbee. Not sure if it's zigbee 3.0
Zigbee 1.2
ah, dang :/
guess I'll build my own ESP based sensor then. Don't want to spend the money on a conbee just yet
It's a shame because it's using a nice sensor
I erm... just realized that my weather-station I built a while ago uses an SHT31.
hmm.. I'm using ESPnow for the outside sensor to keep it low power tho. Guess that's a project I could try messing with
What is the correct channel to discuss light groups created in config.yaml showing "Unavailable"?
This the right one?
#integrations-archived I would say
thx
@barren mortar posted a code wall, it is moved here --> https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/F7csdnNKCj/
hello i am having some trouble viewing the history of my entities/devices status any idea what might havve cause this and how to fix it ?
it has wher history is supposed to be no logbook entries found
That's awesome! Thanks a lot!!! π€
Is there any possibility to link a device to another or control multiple devices at one via dashboard? Like for example multiple Philips Hue light bulbs in the same Lamp. In HomeKit i can combine them to one Device. Is this also possible for Home Assistant?
@worldly sparrow You could make a group in HA with the lights. Wenn you switch on the group, all lights in this group turn on.
Having issues wiring up my inovelli black dimmer in 3 way....
Would this work: Inovelli + Shelly One (or similar)
Inovelli controls the lights, Shelly in the other box (which is set to always on)
Dumb switch on the shelly side just sends a command to the Inovelli to turn on and off?
Not the BEST way of doing it, but I am at my end...
Or, if someone knows the trick to why they are not working...
Are you using a multi meter?
@onyx dune are you using a multimeter to know what you're wiring?
Yes- for line/ load?
https://support.inovelli.com/portal/en/kb/articles/inovelli-wiring-diagrams-dimmer-switches-gen-2 have you seen this page?
I have. Where it gets tricky is We did a remodel and the electrician was unable to make them work in three way, but after getting HA set up and really looking in to the switch parameters, I realized that it might not be auto switching to 3 way.... I got one to work so far, but I'm not having luck with the others.
hey question im having issues with this konnected panel, its connected to the HA and connected to the wifi but im not sure how to configure the OUT on it to trigger a relay
@onyx dune can you post a picture of the box you're trying to wire
And I had replaced them with WeMo three way that work. But I want them to be Z-Wave. Z-Wave dimmers picture incoming
Is there a cheap/DIY zigbee or wifi sensor I can use with https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/plant/ ?
there are a lot of wires--- 2 3 ways and a 2 way in the box
@onyx dune sorry I'm in a work meeting, I'll respond shortly
no problem - take your time
since I have a few to give you more details--- got my laptop out as well.
Added a picture of the settings in OZW that I have
The problem, it works --- but when I toggle the dumb switch, the power to the smart switch is completely cut off. The electrician last time and myself this time confirmed that neither is the secondary side so I can put the smart switch on either side.... but neither side works
if i toggle the dumb switch off, the switch is 'off' compeltely
Wow--- and one of them if I flip the dumb switch, it is resetting (removing) the switch... WTF is going on
OK, so if you have the lights off, are you able to identify the switch that has the hot wire?
On your dumb switch, is the top wire always hot? @onyx dune
Hey folks. I'm looking for some advice for bulbs (preferably zigbee) So, I do a lot of filming in my house, and Hue bulbs are notoriously terrible for that. They have flicker issues unless your shutter is synced with them (which seems to be at 50hz vs the usual 60 in the US) but that's only part of the issue. Motion blur will still look stuttery and bad with a synced shutter.
To quantify this in an easy way that I can test across multiple devices, I simply take a close up pic of the bulb with my phone while the bulb is at full brightness.
This is a hue bulb, the flicker issue and color desync is pretty noticeable.
This is a standard Tuya bulb by "TreatLife" on Amazon. As you can see it has basically no flicker in comparison. The light from these in photos and video appears perfectly continuous. They're also WAY cheaper. A 4 pack for $25.
Thing is I'm looking for zigbee compatible lights that dont flicker.
I was wondering if anyone with a Ikea Zigbee Bulb could do the same sort of photo test with their phone, of the bulb at full brightness?
dang not looking good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwRVL3X5J0o
When the switch is on or off the results on the dumb switch side are the same
Top wire is nothing
bottom wire is hot
When the light is on, the top wire is then hot on the dumb switch?
added the results to the photo album
Nope... weirdly
It was wired up with a Belkin Wemo On/Off 3 way and it worked fine, which leads me to believe.... its wired correctly, but my inovelli is being 'difficult'
and this is the case on all of my 3 ways--- i have 4 in total, all worked with wemo, none work with inovelli
well, 1 works actually!
The dumb switch has 1 wire on top that stays off in both states?
Any recommendations for a device that you'd recommend that can be wired to 120v mains power via leads that can basically act as a keep alive notification? I have a Sonoff TH16 that I think I nuked by trying to flash with 5v on VCC (FTDI lied to me) and I'm wondering if there is a super cheap quick option. The Sonoff took a while to arrive via AliExpress, so I was thinking something US based ideally.
That is correct
FWIW, the goal is to wire into one leg of the power on my hot tub heater circuit so I can notify when the heater pulled too much current and popped the breaker. This is just to know so I can reset it, so if the keep alive doesn't arrive for however long, I know it's popped.
The switch got reset---- Now that I changed parameters:
When light is on via the smart switch:
Top: off
Bottom: hot
When light is off via smart switch
Top: off
bottom: hot
When i switch the dumb switch, smart switch doesnt work
So your dumb switch should have 3 wires. 1 hot and 2 runners and maybe a ground.
Yes--- 'right' side has the 2 wires and the left has the red traveller
same set up on all 4 3 ways
1 works, 3 don't
Are you sure you have the 3 that don't work on the main or the secondary switch?
I've tried the 3 way smart switch on the main
I have tried it on the other side too and same results
the electrican said it was wired so that both sides can act as the main though
not sure which variation that is though
and i am about to lose my mind and just buy these... but I want to do it right!
https://www.thesmartesthouse.com/products/zooz-z-wave-plus-700-series-remote-switch-zen34-battery-powered
But, I know there is SOMETHING that will fix this
- It worked with Wemo
- 1 of the 4 works... and they are all wired the same way
OK on the dumb switch, when the switch is on does the traveler wire change to being hot?
when it is OFF, it changes to hot
Does the other traveler change to hot then?
stays hot
oh
wait
Just did a quick video to show which are hot, which are not in each state
Maybe the traveler and load and reversed... should the load always be hot?
For your smart switch your load will be hot always. But we want to identify what wire changes to hot in the on state so we can identify the runner and then also identify the wire that goes to the light
Off:
Traveller 1: off
Traveller 2: hot
Load: off
On
Traveller 1: hot
Traveller 2: hot
Load: off
OK so it looks like traveler 1 is the only traveler. Traveler 2 is the loaf and the loaf is a neutral
Loaf lol
Load
i think that is right --- will need to check it again with it out of the box and not just sticking in there
So on your smart switch traveler 1 is what we'll want to use to determine the state of the switch. We can splice in for a load and for a neutral.
is that based on the video--- trav1-- which do you consider that one
I'm sorry I don't see a video
Do you have an actual voltage meter?
those sticks aren't really too accurate. They're fine for "I probably shouldn't touch that" tests
ho lee spaghetti
what in the fuck
why is there 10 pounds of shit in that 5 pound bag
Yeah---- there is a LOT going on in there
@onyx dune Can you draw up a wiring diagram?
Let me see if I can find the actual one
I am going to write it up as though I am an idiot... since, I sort of am in idiot who doesn't know what they are doing
@onyx dune https://www.circuit-diagram.org/ is a good tool for this stuff
Yeah sorry, based on those videos, we dont actually know anything.
So, this is what it looks like----
I guess, I am not 100% sure which goes to where in the other box?
@onyx dune Here's a diagram of a basic 3-way setup
hmm can't paste images right now... weird
that seems to be which way mine is wired up based on the wires
only because there is a shared neutral in both boxes
I wonder if there is something funky going on in the dumb switch both---
the top is the 'load' and the bottom 2 should be the travellers?
Why the wemo 3 way worked, is still throwing me!
Have you tried wiring the zwave switch?
OK--- i think THIS page is going to show me why its messed up
https://community.inovelli.com/t/wiring-a-red-series-dimmer-switch-with-power-from-light-for-3-way/2436
what do you mean? as in checking to see if the wiring is correct?
Yes--- changing the load/line
@onyx dune Did you verify the connections at the dumb switch?
as the note says, common might not be top
Let put a pin in this for a bit and I am going to try it based on how this page states
Dumb switch: common up top
Shared Neutral under that
Red traveler on opposite side
I think the dumb switch is where the 'fix' needs to happen
Well make sure you turn off your breaker
well, yeah!
Just making sure, you'd be surprised.
@onyx dune Switches aren't identical, make sure the common pin is actually up top
tips?
the switch is wired up the same as it was with the wemo switch, so assuming the one opposite the traveller would be the 'common'?
@onyx dune Do you have a multi-meter?
does the switch have any markings near the terminals?
ill see if i can find my actual multimeter - its... somewhere...
that's basically the connections you want
red-box being the smart switch
the dumb-switch should have continuity between COM and NC in the off position, and between COM and NO in the on position
(common, normally closed, normally open)
thank you everyone by the way... not only am i going to figure this out, but i am going to figure out WHY too
in your image - do your NC/NO/Com match up to the locations on the switch?
no
ok, that was the head scratcher tbh
in schematics in general, you abstract the actual hardware
makes the circuit easier to see π
then once all is planned out, you can make the connections π
No problem. Just do me a favor and don't electrocute yourself. It's uncomfortable π
:β‘:
especially with 230v π
US, so that a good thing?
120V is slightly friendlier, but its certainly not friendly π
hehe yea.
While we wait just buttoned this up last Saturday. https://i.imgur.com/6E4h45c.png Zigbee 3.0 dimmer in the large junction-box
ooooo - that looks clean!
dimmer being zigbee 3.0 to hop on my parents hue
and the excess cable is in the conduit. Mostly for kitchen grease protection
I'm about to wire up a Shelly in a 3 way. Not as neat. 3 way switches always look like rats nests
Why 3-ways with smart switches tho?
why not just have a "dimmer" switch in one or more locations and let HA simulate the 3-way switching?
It's just the one relay.
yeah it'll work fine. Just seems like it's missing out on a major benefit of smart switches
Yeah, this is the first Shelly device I've gotten. I wanted to try it out.
I'm in the Netherlands and looking for a thermostat for my floor heating. I want to be able to read/write the target temp as well as the measured temp in hass. Humidity / VOC / CO are great plusses. Optionally it should also do the electrical switching of at least heating (but this can be done seperately).
Budget is at most 100~150 euros depending on functionality, but I can stretch to double that if it offers everything I need. I do not mind how it connects to hass (wifi/zwave/etc). Does anyone have any good suggestions?
@stiff stream @wise kindle .....
Checked wiring---
2 travelers, common power, neutral.
Inovelli- 2 travelers, common, neutral
Dumb- 2 travelers, common
Only works from inovelli when dumb switch is in 1 position,
Dumb switch toggles inovelli 'power' off and not controllable until dumb is toggled back
I'm at a loss
Did you splice in a power
This is where the electrician also got frustrated.... Again, why do 2 dumb work or wemo + dumb work
Say what?
Sounds like you've accidentally wired up the dumb switch so it kills power to the inovelli
Ctrl + z
you want the power feed (L and N) to feed directly into the innovelli
then you carry neutral all the way to the lamp
the other side of the lamp connects to the common of the dumb switch, and then the dumb switch has the two travellers wired to the load and traveller connection on the inno
If you turn the inno to the off position are you able to turn on the light with the dumb switch?
No
Swap your load and traveler on your inno
Ohhh
@onyx dune Why are there only three wires on the inno in the pictures?
that looks like the neutral supply for the inno is missing
The neutral white is there
oh, is there another connection on the back?
ah
@onyx dune I'd take it all out and verify the connections
verify that the wires you're using are the wires you're expecting
Yup. That was the most recent one....
Is there a way to verify that x wire goes to y box?
Because I have another area that is just 1 3 way and that's what I was working on this time
with a multimeter with very long wires π
or a wire buzzer
with a wire buzzer you attach a transmitter at one and, and probe the cable with a receiver in the other
Why did this work with on/off WeMo's but not with these?
Did the wemo somehow 'smart' internal reword to figure it out?
I'm just gonna buy blank inserts and call it a day....
Sigh....
HI All, does anyone know if bluetooth 5 is getting support on hassio? I have a NUC and plugged in a USB Bluetooth 5.0 dongle but its coming up with this
bluetooth hci0: Direct firmware load for rtl_bt/rtl8761a_fw.bin failed with error -2
I SSH'd and copied the firmware to the relevant folder but it just gets removed on restart. Or does anyone know of a USB bluetooth dongle that works with a NUC?
#330990055533576204
@severe geyser that would be a question for #330990055533576204 , the rest of us can do mostly anything we want
ok thanks I will post in there.
Hi, is there any way to get the room of a device via the API?
Hi all, does anyone experience what I call sleepy sensors? Example I can turn lights on/off via voice (Alexa) But first thing in the morning some zigbee sensors wont respond until given a kick. for example. I have a zigbee door sensor that reports closed even when the door is opened, but then if another sensor is triggered like my PIR zigbee the door sensor comes to life and runs as it should. or if I do a restart all the sensors work as they should. its almost as if they have gone to sleep.
no issues here with zigbee2mqtt + xiaomi door sensors + cc1352
Just looking at the zigbee network visualization tab, Can anyone advise or tell me where I can find what the colour coding is on the lines please? I have Green / Red / Yellow / Grey
#zigbee-archived probably can
Hi all! I am new to this world, so I have started buying some Aliexpress stuffs. I have one question about a controller for my led strips: it has no name on it, neither a code. Here it is the link of the product:
Almost certainly won't work
might be flashable with tasmota \ esphome, but very unlikely, and impossible to tell without opening it
mmh okay, thanks both! But why not precisely? And is it possible to buy another controller and connect the strips to it correct?
you are better starting off with a custom ws281x strip and an esp-controller of choice
and making your own
that will also be individually adressable
Or, if you want single colour, buy a supported #zigbee-archived controller
one that is 100% to be flashable is https://templates.blakadder.com/h801
eu touch wifi switch simple - any recommended device ?
lots of tuya devices on aliexpress
well....that's what i read also about bt dongle and now i'm trying to tinker it
lots of bt on aliexpress are working....
not that way
for BT I just use an esp32 device π€·
i guess i will ask somebody to do this way with esp32
but is out of my hands which is annoying π

u have a project for that diy bt with esp ?
I have that occasionally with the ones furthest away from the dongle
@mental patio https://esphome.io/components/esp32_ble_tracker.html ?
unfortunately i have no idea how to build it
1x esp32 device, configure the esphome firmware, upload it via usb port, done
esp home itself has bt? or i need to buy and solder things?
no, esp32 devices have BT in the chip
well...if it's 5.0 then i will buy it
to integrate mi home composition scale 2 (there is an add-on made
Appears to be possible
sensor:
- platform: xiaomi_xmtzc0xhm
mac_address: 'XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX'
weight:
name: "Xiaomi Mi Scale Weight"
impedance:
name: "Xiaomi Mi Scale Impedance"
why do you want 5.0 support?
i integrated my mi scale using a docker container and a CSR 4.0 dongle
well...because the guy said that in his add-on :))
the guy?
addons π€’
and i already bought a no-bname BT ...which fails to be seen by ha
did you buy a no name 5.0 dongle?
yes
and i run hassos in vm....guess not so docker friendly
well, hassos runs docker
so
just in a locked down appliance you can't do stuff with
but you get addons... so it should be easy for you
i see that you have different opinions :))
yup i have add-ons...i will try to fix bt dongle when i will go home
no, i'm just sarcastic
how do you intend to fix the dongle if your kernel doesn't support it
indeed...magic π¦
well 6 euro can be waisted for that bt dongle....but i want to make sure that with esp i can connect to mi sclae
D1 Mini, ESP32, WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2, ESP8266 should be enough ?
https://esphome.io/components/display/st7789v.html - any idea if this can be controlled via HA? (connected to an ESP32 board directly, esphome installed ofc)
Basically that'd be reading a Ruuvitag sensor and forwarding it via MQTT to HA, but I'd also want to display some stuff on the display
as long as I can control what's on the screen via HA, I'm gonna order a bunch of those boards π
well, not via HA directly, but you can create a display that displays whatever you want on it, based on values
that's close enough
I'll share my OLED playing
Like this, I have three pages, that it cycles through, showing me sensor data from HA
oh shit, that's even cooler π
saw the new rasperry pico announcement, remembered that ESP32 is a thing, went deep into the aliexpress rabbit hole π
found this one
yeah, the pico is... fun but useless compared to a esp for most uses imo
it's just a fancy arduino pretty much
and arduinos became next to useless when ESP3266 came out
from where u buy esp32? ali only ?
pretty much
I'm not in a hurry to get my stuff, so that's the cheapest option most of the time
the only problem is that there are like 500000 sellers for every doodad
:)))
and it'll take a bit of digging to figure out which ones are legit
every chinese is a seller :))) i take mostly from most rated / orders
ebay might work too, but they're mostly the same sellers as in aliexpress
sometimes you get lucky and someone acually has stuff in-country and isn't just dropshipping π
(And that's how I ended up with 100 of every single kind of resistor known to man)
Hi. Posted this on Reddit, but I would like to find a good dedicated power WiFi webcam that will work with HomeKit. Any good recommendations?
Hi gang! Wondered if someone could help me out with this warning
WARNING Found 'Q$4IeS1b46z21UjgiSOF' (see api->password) which looks like a substitution, but '4IeS1b46z21UjgiSOF' was not declared
It is in ESP Home
ESPHome is a system to control your ESP8266/ESP32, with a native integration for Home Assistant.
You can find their documentation here, and get help with ESPHome itself here in the #diy-archived channel (#integrations-archived for the integration). They also have their own Discord server too.
I'd ask on their Discord π
thx
Anyone have recommendations for LED strips for a bookcase/display shelf? Gonna be doing a project similar to this soon. Was wondering if there's anything out there made for this kind of thing, or if I'd just be better off getting a long LED strip and drilling some small holes to run it along the underside of the top of the cabinet.
ws2812b seems to be the most popular at the moment
I had that model fucked at the start
there are many options in that variant
You don't want RGB only if you want to use white light
If you want to use colors, get RGBW or RGBCCT strips and a led controller that is suitable for your needs (zigbee, wifi whatever). If you don't need color, I would suggest a CCT strip that goes from warm white to cool white for which is an effect I personally really like
If you want addressable strips, the hook up has a really good video on the differences: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnvircC22hU
oh, I assume RGB magic, whoops
OK, anyone ever worked with or have window blinds?
Yes. I use them manually but many have automated them. You should ask the question you want the answer for
I need one for our utility room but have no idea where to start - obviously need to be connected to HA! What brand/how reliable?
Most projects I've seen were #diy-archived stuff. Is that out of the question?
I have been looking at the Ikea FYRTUR blinks https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/cat/electric-blinds-44531/
I will have to cut them, but that is not a problem, just not sure how good they are...
based off of my research, they are 3/5 stars
what seems to be knocking off the 2/5?
click the reviews on IKEA, lol
Yes, duh! Looks like they are cheap and have some serious connectivity issues - any other brandname anyone can suggest looking into?
I usually search through discord history for things like that. questions like that will be asked quite often
Ta, will do that.
the search options/filters go a long ways
can anyone recommend any body scales that work with HA?
@civic kraken that video was fantastic, thanks for the recommendation
Hi everyone, quick question regarding mqtt devices (e.g. mqtt sensors). Is the state_changed event fired whenever a device's state is updated?

Hey guys - can anyone recommend the best door sensor for 2021? I have an ikea hub but no other zigbee devices. Running a pretty solid unifi wifi network internally. - Should I just be buying a zigbee hub + zigbee door sensor or has anyone has success with wifi ones?
Can homeassistant :
Talk to another raspberry pi connected to my network via eithernet running raspbian stretch (I think) ... Have home assistant controll a gpio pin on that pi running stretch
door sensors aren't limited to one year only. wifi ones are only if you like the long delay, i'd go zigbee
Wired > Z-Wave/Zigbee > WiFi
Xiaomi > Xiaomi > Xiaomi
hey everyone, I'm looking at the sonoff stuff, there is a full list of sonoff hardware who works with Home Assistant ?
no
there is no list of compatible device ?
you asked for a full list and the answer is no
on the github there is a list but it's not updated ( i think )
the github?
well that's a completely different question
You know perfectly well there's only one website on the Internet π

mine are also on github so there's that
@pastel steeple but the answer is still no, unless that list is kept up to date
ok
Bumping my question
Yes, you can make a 'command_line' sensor. That runs a command through ssh: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/sensor.command_line/
However, a warning: https://blog.ceard.tech/2020/05/home-assistant-docker-and-using-ssh.html
You need to set up ssh keys and enable accept-new (both) to ssh in as there is no user to enter the passwords.
@deep moon Can you PLEASE ... PLEASE ... HELP ME accomplish this
Is there any way that I can use a GPIO pin on my Pi thats running Home Assistant OS to control an addressable RGB Strip
@grand basalt what have you tried and how are you stuck?
I forgot to add .... My ha is running on a raspberry pii 3b+ ... Does this matter
As for what I tried .... Nothing yet ... Had to run out after I posted
Start by looking at the list of integrations on the website
And some are under advanced
Hiya, I was thinking about a screen for HASS in my living room. Google nest hub looks nice, but I'm a bit reluctant to bring a google device into my living room. Are there any alternatives that are hackable, or DIY buildable?
hi all, anyone has a recommendation for a WIFI led strip? Need an off-the-shelf one preferably available in europe (lidl, action, ikea, ebay, ...).
It's not for my home so needs to be foolproof, hence no WLED etc π
@dusk pendant I use a chuwi tablet on my fridge
@haughty sonnet the yeelight one has been solid for me
Hello everyone! New here so pls. donβt shoot if I missed something. I have a weird issue where all of the sudden (a few weeks ago), all my zigbee devices stopped reporting the real battery status. Everything else works fine. Right now, all of them report 100% although I know for certain, almost all of them were below 90%. Hs anyone else encountered something like this? I am running the latest version and since it happened, 08.01.2021, a few updates have been released... any idea would be greatly appreciated!
I'd suggest you head over to the #zigbee-archived channel and provide the information requested in the topic there
Thanks! Iβll do that.
This question can fall under a few different categories so I'll ask here. Using a new zwave light using zwave2mqtt and everything works, light will turn on/off, brightness works and is reported properly to the frontend, the only issue is that after turning it off, HA still thinks the light is on... here is what I have for the configuration....
- platform: mqtt
name: "Dining Room Light"
state_topic: "z2m/6/38/1/0"
state_value_template: "{{ '0' if value_json.value == '0' else '99' }}"
command_topic: "z2m/6/38/1/0/set"
payload_on: '99'
payload_off: '0'
brightness_scale: 99
brightness_state_topic: "z2m/6/38/1/0"
brightness_command_topic: "z2m/6/38/1/0/set"
brightness_value_template: "{{ value_json.value }}"
on_command_type: 'brightness'
Hi proggie, I suspect this is more of an integration or automation category. Devices is really for asking about hardware devices (see decription)
Don't be surprised if someone throws a .topic your way :p
Well, it's an #integrations-archived topic @slender galleon π and as Valuta said...

have you looked into this any more? You seem to be the type that would build something cool π
Why would I look into it π
because you build cool stuff lol
There's a world out there you can find with Google
I don't build weird ass hardware. Or weird hardware for asses
There's no shortage of examples out there (load cell)
yea so i ordered a few
People have used them for bed occupancy sensors, and more
I may have ordered a 1000kg one? My wife asked if i think she's getting fat
I ... really don't care that much about who's sat where. Yet anyway
And, to be honest, if I start putting load cells everywhere the wife will likely be having words with me
I know folks have done that, and used it to tell who's in the bed, or if it's the cat/dog
There are of course some .... diplomatic challenges there
No, the system can't tell the difference between me and the dog, or just you, sorry
i should start preparing the shed now for me to sleep in it
the stick is out of stock π
It'll be back...
yes, i'm not in a hurry anyway, i just love to play with it asap
@deep moon I installed ssh/terminal addon when i try to configure the ssh/terminal add-on with the putty key. the YMAL is invalid
Is there much point in getting an 8GB raspberry pi just for HA ? Will it use it much or is a 4GB pi more than enough ?
oh i just read that i could that stick as a 'repeater' too, and just needed to plug it into a 5V adapter
I don't quite follow. What error do you get?
i need the ssh/terminal addon ...correct
You do not need it, but I've found it easiest to configure outgoing ssh keys from the terminal.
Look up how to do this on google (ssh-key-gen and ssh-copy-key (or something similar))
i have a ssh key generated
i got the add on configured with no errors
so now ... i guess i need to figure out the command line sensor
some idea for doorbell ?
I have stuff in my shopping cart for the speaker part π I am just using a regular zigbee button for other stuff
@mental patio for doorbell? Xiaomi ZigBee switch
and...the chime ? π
well...no smart speaker...yet...my wife didn't approve the budget
tv?? what can tv do ?
turn off if switch is pressed? :)))
Show a notification in the corner of the screen
maybe for android ones
No
i have a tizen
Webos can do that fine
no lg
Tizen π€’
samsung
That is a you problem though
so...no tv notification i guess π¦

https://www.dfrobot.com/product-1121.html https://www.dfrobot.com/product-1506.html I am doing some stuff with these
nice
xiaomi zigbee works with ha without xiaomi zigbee hub?
Yes
If you have a usable coordinator atleast

for the moment i guess my cc2531 is too far away to be sure it's working
dfrobot has an alcohol sensor. What can I automate to where I have to be blasted, hrmmm
Cc2531 is a horrible choice overall
See the #zigbee-archived channel for help with Zigbee anyway π
indeed horrible, but that what i found 3 months ago
hope 2 dooors is ok to break through for this switch π
Without an antenna? Probably not
Even with one... odds are low
i called a help from 2538 + 2592
but anyway...xiaomi switch looks better than sonoff
@Valuta... I'm not sure how to use command line sensor or even somehow implement it
Objective:
pi A is running stretch in my garage ... When I run my python3 script it sets gpio 21 to LOW for . 03 seconds which triggers a relay to open my garage door....
I'd like to have ha on a raspberry pi which is in my basement run the script on pi A
Is this possible?
Why not.... Just use an esp device with a relay that can trigger the garage door
esp 8226?
@fringe moon I've never used an esp device so that would be back to square 1
It's quite easy, a wemos d1 mini with a relay hat will be around $4 and creating the esphome config, uploading it and configuring it in ha will be 10 minutes tops
And a lot sleeker and more sense than dedicating a whole pi to a garage door
@fringe moon ..... So can you help me?
@dreamy hinge you could share the setup guide we did for @grand basalt
@grand basalt we did a setup guide for those boards... it is very easy to do.
Anyone know the range of the 433mhz broadlink RF transmitters?
from 0.1mm to 100m depending on a variety of factors
π
Only ask as the range on a battery powered remote is meh
Wondering if I can use 1 transmitter for the house
probably not
anyone know how to pair philips hue go with zha?
is this the right place to ask what DMX devices people have used with HA, or is this supposed to be directed at integrations
Anyone looked at the unifi doorbell vs eufy 2k doorbell?
Hi all! NEW HERE. Do not run... please., lol
I need HASSIO to help manage window/door sensors. BEST APPROACH?
Make from? Or will the following work better or as good,
SONOFF DW2-RF - 433MHZ RF Wireless Door/Window Sensor. (If correctly chosen product)
SONOFF DW2-RF - 433MHZ RF Wireless Door/Window Sensor
I need good service and good battery time.
Newbie integrating here..lol
do you already have existing RF devices? I've been using the xiaomi zigbee ones with the USB stick. seem to work fine.
U guys had problem with this wireless scene switch? https://imgur.com/a/mwASklm
ESW-0ZAA-EU
I created automations and sometimes it takes 5-10s to execute, but most of the time its not executing at all
Well, that is ZigBee, so it would depend on your setup, I run zigbee2mqtt and I can see any device activity in the console of zigbee2mqtt any time, and in the broker, and in ha, so I can tell where my lag is if I ever have any
Does it take 10 seconds for to appear in the logbook?
Good service rules out RF like those then π
You want Zigbee (see the #zigbee-archived channel's pinned messages for a summary of the choices). The Xiaomi Aqara door/window sensors are cheap, long lasting, and work well.
I also use zigbee2mqtt, while pressing button it shows its action but nothing else
I see its going throught switch
Should I make it connected to cc2530 instead?
31*
does anyone know how to pair philips hue go with zha?
#zigbee-archived probably does
Is there any way to change what a device from hue shows up as? My trΓ₯dfri socket shows up under lights.<socket name>
hello, does anyone know how to send only Hue or Saturation without having to update both ? If not possible, is there a way to tell the data section that the missing float value should remain unchanged from existing (in a neater way than just reading the devices existing state attribute) ? Thanks
data:
hs_color:
- '{{ trigger.payload_json.hue }}'
- '{{ trigger.payload_json.saturation }}'
entity_id: light.test
That'd be a topic for #integrations-archived - but you can't - you have to send both
@winged knoll π
I keep getting notifications that the system has discovered a new device. There are no new ones, and no new hidden ones. Seems like it keeps reporting HACS as a new device. How to I get it to quit ?
I have a few feit bulbs that work with the Tuya integration. I bought a Feit water leak detector and have it hooked up with the same Tuya app but I don't see it in the Tuya Integration
how do u remove a device? i only found a way to disable it
i have 2 versions of my phone for some reason
one is from http which i dont use anymore
Anyone know if this will work with Home Assitant https://www.lowes.com/pd/Feit-Electric-Feit-Smart-Water-Sensor/5000875131
Has anyone had good experiences with the GE Z-Wave Dimmers with Quickfit + LED recessed lights? The reviews are all over the place. Doing a kitchen remodel, and would like real 3-way switches instead of Caseta dimmers.
I bought a bunch of zwave GE dimmers because they were on clearance
Wondering if you all have a few trusted 2k wired options for cameras that integrate with HA well. Iβm intending to control from HomeKit. Need highest quality possible with night vision.
Is it not simpler to have the pi send its "output" via MQTT?
I'm thinking about setting up individual power meters for the floors in my house. would you recommend the shelly 3em or is this just overkill...?
#integrations-archived @strange aspen
(and please, read the channel topics π )
Apologies. Thought this was the right place and hadn't noticed the channel topic.
Hi, I have projection screen which is using RF remote (433.92MHz)
What is the best strategy to create an integration for it?
i use rfxcom to talk to my screen, works well enough for my needs
I can do some soldering as well but ready-made solution will be better
well, if that is the only rf device you have, going the rfxcom route might come at a too high cost
yeah, I noticed that
doing something with esphome or similar might be another option?
I will open my magic box with arduinos and look for 433 mhz transceiver then
its alos quite possible to get something second hand since many are leaving rf behind and goes for zigbee or wifi gadgets
Or just buy sonoff rf bridge for 10 EUR
that works too
I have some sonffs but that one I have no personal experience with so can't tell how good that will work
Hope someone can help me .. I just got some smart plugs from Smartlife & added them to HA, In smartlife it. shows me the power usage but in HA just shows me the switch ..
Smart Plug ASZKJ Mini WiFi Socket

Questions about integrations do belong in #integrations-archived

I'm looking for a z-wave solenoid valve to water my plants but I can't find any, from what I see I could have an z-wave socket where I connect the valve but I'm looking for a single device if that exists, thanks
it might but I haven't seen any (though I haven't looked specifically for a z-wave, but I did spend quite some time this summer looking at valves for irrigation)
Hi, Is there any smart plugs what does power sensing that works dirct with HA ni flashing ?
Many #zigbee-archived or #zwave-archived ones will
OK. I have a zigbee hub coming. will this work with HA
No idea about that... but I'd not be too surprised if it doesn't without flashing it with new firmware
arghh lol
See the #zigbee-archived channel's pinned messages for what will work π
Does anyone know if Tp link kasa hs110 works
I have one and got it working direct .. Just need to make a template
With wled devices & the wled integration, is there a way to set multiple colors for the effects? Trying to find a way to do this within a scene.
if you want to reproduce colors with a scene and WLED, you need to make presets on WLED
you can use scripts to change individual colors with some extra work if you want to control colors 2 and 3
They have a REST API which allows changing the colors. https://github.com/Aircoookie/WLED/wiki/HTTP-request-API#advanced and then you can use MQTT as they have a layer of MQTT on top of their REST
I am pretty sure
@stiff stream just get a Broadlink mini
@void hollow Man I wish I'd known about that before I put this together π
π
That said, they just list "Panasonic" as the supported AC brand, and there's a good bit of protocol differences between models :/
Yeah usually you just find the closest one and use it
Otherwise you can learn from your existing remote
Where do they phone-home to?
Broadlink not sure
But you can just set it up then block it with VLANs/router rules
home assistant uses local polling to broadlink devices
I could... if my parents wanted to spend that kinda money on a router π
and yes, an edgerouterX is too much for them π
When dealing with lights, in my home I have switches that allow to control many lights (2 or 3 is very common), on amazon I just find switches that allow controlling a single one (like https://www.amazon.com.mx/gp/product/B07RRBT6W5).
I wonder if I can find z-wave switches to control more than 1 light, otherwise, I'd need to put lots of switches just this.
@inland yacht I mean with HA you can have it control an arbitrary amount of nodes I'd assume
https://www.vesternet.com/pages/apnt-155-standard-2-way-lighting-circuit-with-neutral-using-fibaro-dimmer-2 @inland yacht - typically the lights are wired from a single point on the circuit - put the smarts there behind the lights
Not sure if this is the right channel but here we go.
π
I have device tracker setup from my microtik router however once I Wal into the range of my wifi extender(same ssid, password) it shows I'm away from home. If I winbox into my router it shows the same IP is still connected so I'm not sure how it changes anyone had this problem before googling the problem came up empty with solutions.
wifi extenders usually do some voodoo hoodo stuff that break random stuff
so I'm not surprised
consider adding more access points instead of wifi extenders
I was hoping not to go that route. It's Corona time money is limited
I recently saw someone talking about running automations based on having a pressure sensor detecting when they are in bed. Does anyone know what people are using for sensors for that sort of thing?
there are a ton of guides on google for that
but pressure sensor is just one way, you can do other stuff like monitor your phone charging, and lights in bedroom off and x y z
And a stack of forum posts about it
those are not a good option for me, hence why I'm interested in what people are using pressure sensor wise
Thin film pressure sensor. You can hook that up to cheap esp chips and control via esphome
anyone knows how to physically open Xiaomi Gateway v3 ?
Axe?
carefully
yeah, probably you are all right, but some hints would be nice π
@woven trout this model? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVZFxtASaa4
nope, not aquara
places seem to suggest they are the same thing
most of those devices look like the type of thing that snaps together with pita hidden tabs and then one or two screws hidden under labels or feet
https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/511909/98269111-6da8b980-1f9e-11eb-82ef-d435a900edf1.jpg
this seems to have no screws, but I feel I'm gonna damage the case very much π
#diy-archived may be a better place
right on!
any recommendations for ssd for a docker install on a pi4? looking to migrate from ha os, and currently running on SD. I'd love for it to be under $50, but not sure about brands these days. doesn't need to be very large
this seems legit: "SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO USB 3.2 Solid State Flash Drive - SDCZ880-128G-GAM46" https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-128GB-Extreme-Solid-State/dp/B08GYM5F8G
As long as the Pi can boot from it, that's the only thing that matters
just don't want to get some offbrand device that fails prematurely
half the price
There's going to be a reason for that π
Expect performance or lifespan, or both, to be meaningfully less
indeed, just going to get the sandisk and not worry about it
hello everyone. I am locking for a sirene for my hass. I have a vision batterie one and an old neeo coolcam but both doesnt work properly with the openzwave integration
@amber briar Looking for advice about a device to buy? Remember to provide guidance on:
- Which country you're in
- What your budget is
- What protocols you prefer (eg Zigbee, WiFi, Z-Wave)
- Any features you want (such as power monitoring, dimming, etc)
I am trying to get HA to find my phone and am having trouble. I have the HA app running on my IOS device. I go to the list of people in my configuration and associate my phone with myself. I am getting "unknown" for my status. Sorry for being vague but hopefully this can help someone direct me to a fix. Thank you!
#ios_and_mac-archived can probably help you with the app
Thank you! I didn't see that room.
Hey everyone, I'm looking into building a battery powered water temp sensor that will be ~300ft from my house. Would an esp32 and a repeater be the way to go?
@rocky plinth Depending on what kinda objects you have to pass through, I'd look into some more suited protocols
like LoRa for example
It's pretty open (clear line of sight) but there's some tree's
Something like this: https://heltec.org/project/wifi-lora-32/ should get you a km of range in free air
and has the battery management stuff on it. You'd have to write your own integration for it. Probably something with esphome
you could also look at other generic low-freq radios.
Oh nice! I'll have to check that out
I've seen some of his videos, he gets some crazy distances
That's LoRa for you π
π
I mean, the name stands for Long-range Radio π
It gets it by using a spread-spectrum modulation, which is ineffecient in terms of data density, but it's "loud" when you have to pick it up / demodulate it. As such you can transmit farther with less power
Have people been able to use Lora off battery? I'm only trying to update once per hr
Yeah, it's ideal for that stuff. It's very low power and very long range
Sounds perfect
the board I linked claims <800 Β΅A in deep-sleep
@rocky plinth How good are you with arduino and programming them? You'd likely have to write your own code for this
Just a hobby programmer
@rocky plinth https://github.com/HelTecAutomation/Heltec_ESP32/blob/master/examples/Low_Power/Low_Power.ino If you can understand the example here you should be fine
I'd look around for other boards too. Something like adafruit or sparkfun has great support
I could manage that project, I'll check out those other boards. Thanks!
I must admit the heltec one looks like it's got it all. Battery management, and low-power capable RF with power amplifier, and even a license for LoRaWAN (that you have to request via their website based on your chip S/N)
But it seems they're doing what I've seen a few chinese devs do, and instead of adding support for their board to upstream, they've just copied it and "maintain" their own fork.
It'll probably work. It just makes me uncomfortable :/
Looked over sparkfuns stuff a bit. They have somethings, but no "ready to go" dev boards. Adafruit seems better with that
https://www.adafruit.com/product/3179 < this seems interesting. Their feathers always have battery support from what I've seen
Our initial tests with default library settings: over 1.2mi/2Km line-of-sight with wire quarter-wave antennas. (With setting tweaking and directional antennas, 20Km is possible).
Thats quite the long range
yeah it's impressive π
https://esphome.io/components/sensor/custom.html < you'd want to look at this for getting it into HA
This is good stuff man, It's always hard to find all the different boards
I recently wrote a custom sensor for something similar. Not LoRa tho, just "ESPNOW" bridge
Oh nice, how'd that turn out?
works π
awesome
@rocky plinth Here's the implementation if you need some inspiration when you get your stuff π https://gist.github.com/Duckle29/e16f8f06cfc216b97a23a13a6abfd606
Outdoor unit runs this: https://github.com/Duckle29/weatherBugs/tree/master/weatherBug
Oh nice, I read that someone was able to get 400ft with an espnow mesh
(tbf those are metal-film covered, and pretty much instantly drops most RF)
Hah yeah that'll do it
anyone know of a smart plug that fits an L6-30R recepticle?
@rocky plinth I'm currently playing with LoRA and range, even with transmitter inside my house I still got ~300m range with no tuning
@wise kindle @stiff stream
I didn't give up my 3-way battle with the innovelli's
Dumb switches were causing issues for WHO KNOWS WHAT REASON?
Of the 4:
1: Got it to work with a dumb switch - no idea how - working
2: Aux Switch, w/ neutral wire - working
3: Aux switch, line is on both boxes, but no neutral on one side. Wired the Line/Load into the Aux and then set up with non-neutral - working
4: AHHHH, not working: Well, technically it is working. Works with dumb switch and aux switch, but is only 3 recessed cans.
When it is on, flickers. When it is off, stay on very dim.
Wired the Aeotec Nano bypass, some results.
Put a Wemo On/Off switch on there and now it won't even operate as a 3-way. This one I have spent the MOST time on and am admitting defeat. I wish I could have a dimmer on here but it seems as though the low low wattage is causing issues, or the dimmer is, or the switches are, or something.
3 out of 4 isnt bad - thanks for the help and pushing me to not give up too easily
Hello guys, looking for a cheap but decent camera.. should be available to order in the eu.
all of mine are $20 cameras from wish and aliexpress
@fringe moon which one can you recommend? Aliexpress prefered
any camera that you find with lots of orders π€£
all I needed was IR nightvision and poe
well I've got my first aqara motion sensor coming today... hoping they'll successfully convert me from wyze sense π could anybody that has these comment on how long they stay on once triggered? I know that the wyze sense ones stay for 45s after the last motion
Hello folks π
Any experience with this thing: https://www.aliexpress.com/i/4000861432384.html ?
I can't seem to find anything meaningful on getting this up w/o smartlife app. Wifi device, so no zigbee for sure, and I don't see much for "tasmota" either
it claims to be a "BSD33", no clearly obvious way to disassemble
oh look: https://templates.blakadder.com/BSD33-16A.html π
if it matters, for the time being, I'll be using it with a husbzb-1 and zha, but I have a ZZH coming as well, and intend on switching to z2m at that point
@prisma delta you may also end up having luck with localtuya π
I don't think you're gonna use it with ZZH
I've got ZZH in place, but this thing seems to be WiFi only
(or at least it seems to be - ZZH found no device at all)
Yes, it's WiFi, not Zigbee
The key give away points are:
- No mention of Zigbee
- The product page talks about WiFi, IFTTT, Alexa, and Google
- It can be flashed with Tasmota
on 1) -> yeah some of the sellers are using a misleading product image
has a zigbee logo on (despite it's not) π
can you guess how I learned that? π
Yeah, lots of product pages there are utter garbage π
damn this is a real pain to disassemble
some versions of that plug need some heat to loosen up
I give it 15 mins on the radiator - great tip, thanks
I haven't seen an army of zigbee plugs with power meter in them - is that something that's available at all?
can you throw a few at me to eyeball?
Are you in the UK?
nah - product names suffice π
I will be - once we figure if we need a Visa to the UK from the EU or wtf the process is gonna be π
See #zigbee-archived π
oh sorry
salus sp600 ...quite expensive
Eh, not cheap, not expensive
more UK than cheap π
almost 60 euro here
Z-Wave sockets start around there and go up. For a quality Zigbee device that's a reasonable price
I managed to get this thing apart, and I think I would've been better off with 2 flathead screwdrivers
what a mess π
@winged knoll @prisma delta ohh... I guess I thought all the aqara stuff was zigbee lmao
no worries, I'm cool with wifi
π€¨
The AliExpress link wasn't to an Aqara device
But also, Xiaomi is a "brand of brands" - a lot of their stuff is third party
Is that what you thought you did π€
yes?
^
I was asking about this
Yeah, we weren't talking about your post π
got it
mb said he didn't think I'd be able to use it with zzh
I also replied to him that his wifi device may work with localtuya
sorry, couple threads happening
Just wondering why you tagged me then
well I thought you were talking to me lol
now it's clear
lol I'll ask in zigbee
Hey all, looking for a little debugging help with tasmota not connecting back to hass. okay place to ask?
Hey everyone. I'm looking for a Wi-Fi smart lock that will connect with Home Assistant. I have a Schlage Sense, but that can use either HomeKit OR Wi-Fi. Since I have no Apple products in my house, the HomeKit route is useless. I can't use ZigBee or Z-Wave, so that cuts out a majority of the smart locks out there. Just wondering if anyone knows of a good quality door lock that will work with my setup of Wi-Fi only talking to HA.
I have failed to pair this with Zigbee to be more exact π
And that is the dns spoofing with local services way
Likely - but I try to keep myself away from that. The consideration is: when a single device enter the home that I want to really use with Tuya (like for example there is no other way) this solution becomes a real mess. Having a stack of firewall rules to decide what goes where (and keeping that intact) puts ROI at a bad position
Is there still no way to remove 'ghost' devices after removing a z-wave node via the UI? Is the only way to edit the registry files in the .storage folder?
#zwave-archived π
shit! I'm terrible at this!
You also forgot some important information π
does anyone have the august doorbell camera?
I'm wondering if it can continue working in a local only way if i block its internet access.
the aqara motion sensor or your smart plug?
That's for the Smart plug I posted above. The BSD33 low-price smart plug that has a zigbee logo on the images on AliExpress is a bit misleading, that's a Wifi Only device (and it doesn't mention Zigbee anywhere in the description)
Do we have smart locks for EU non-cylinder locks?
gotcha... sorry, I think you and I started talking about two different devices at almost the same time, and we just got some lines crossed π
have you happened to try out localtuya for yours? I've had it working with a handful of devices in the past few months... but am currently only using it for one of my smart plugs, as when I used it with my bulbs, it didn't seem to play well with Adaptive Lighting
Do the Aqara sensors only go direct to hub?
Can't make sense of whats going on. Got a couple of sensors near the hub, keep disconnecting, but one on other side of house is fine, whilst another on the other side of the house isnt
I have a whole bunch connected to routers
Of the 40 or so I have, maybe one is connected to the coordinator
Hi guys, could you recommend smart plug to reboot my router and switch hub when Iβm away? A plug that has a restart feature.
Looking for advice about a device to buy? Remember to provide guidance on:
- Which country you're in
- What your budget is
- What protocols you prefer (eg Zigbee, WiFi, Z-Wave)
- Any features you want (such as power monitoring, dimming, etc)
Your options will vary according to where in the world you are, amongst the other points there π
So sorry for that, Im from the Philippines. A budget plug would be better.
My HA setup has not changed in a few weeks, but maybe once a week a Hue dimmer does not run the automations it's supposed to (even though the green lights blink to indicate its responding). By the time I get back to my server and setup an event listener to debug it, everything is working again. How do I go about troubleshooting this? - Nothing in HA logs to indicate a problem - using DeConz integration for all the Hue/Aqara devices I have
Can anyone recommend some RGB outdoor garden flood lights that will work with HA?
any idea if these would work with home assistant?
im having a hard time figuring it out
Those should work. But honestly with smart RGB lights you get what you pay for.
I have some tuya lightbulbs that are showing up as switches in HA. Anyone have a fix for this?
hi i am looking for a button panel with as many buttons as possible. i have done a diy one with 6 buttons but some weirdness happened so only 4 work and that is not enough. i dont mind if it is wifi or zigbee but i dont want to buy a hub (i already have a zigbee usb dongle). i also dont mind if i have to flash custom firmware (eg Tasmota)
Anybody got recs on good good cameras with night vision ?
@mint edge you are right π
i am terrible for being off topic and not thinking about it
looks like you need a firmware update and they refuse to make one π¦
Thats why there $5 bulbs
I was using CbyGE bulbs but couldn't find a solution to get those into HA
you in US?
Everything was fine when I was just using Google Home. Then I had to go and get complicated
yes
these zigbee bulbs are nice price ttps://www.homedepot.com/p/Sylvania-SMART-ZigBee-65W-Equivalent-Soft-White-Dimmable-BR30-LED-Light-Bulb-74581/302789621
you would need a zigbee hub and something to bridge zigbeen into HA
I need to get a zigbee/z-wave stick. I haven't used either of those before
Honestly not sure if one is better. I know there are channels for both
(i believe there is a zigbee2MQTT software bridge; i use z-wave to MQTT and works well)
i think people get real relgious about it
in my mind it is simple, which one has the devices you want at the price you want, then pick one and stick with it (unless you want to play)
i went zwave switches and insteon dimmers because when i bought there were ZERO zwave dimmers that had dimmer gauge on them π
and the wife wanted dimmer gauage
I thought about just getting a stick with both and then I just go off best device.
Then mix and match to get the automations I want
My house isn't big enough to benefit from the mesh
cool, i am not opposed to that
you would be surprised how mesh can get blocked
i put one zwave and one insteon at each major external doorway on ground and first floow to create best mesh i could
that said newer devices are better than the majority of what i have in terms of range
for zwave i like the aeotec usb zwave dongle, i also love the raZberry zwave hat i bought (though a little weird - has to be intitialized on a new device with their software, then take their software off and use someting like zwavejs2mqtt)
no experience of zigbee, but was toying with the idea, and those zigbeen bulbs are pretty darn cheap....
zigbe seems nice because it doesn't run on 2.4ghz and mess with wifi. But also isn't in the connected home over ip project. But Im not sure how people feel about that
well thats good to know. You might off sold me
I do know one thing, I need to get away from wifi devices
as i say people are religious, both are good, both have promising future
and this is from someone who started with the best home hub ever made - the Revolv (zwave, zigbee, BT, wifi, insteon and one more radio for fun)
Thats like the smartthings hub. Little of it all.
google / nest mucked that one up, my wife still asks why can't we have one as good, 6 years later HA has just become good enough in terms of UI for her
My wife hates the UI in HA as well. Thats why I try to keep her in google home
wow, no, it was 8 years ago I had that
my wife likes what i did for her in HA, got approval for tablet in the kitchen as a dashbaord
Do you build custom interface? I just use the default cards and they are clunky
but that might be a convo for #frontend-archived now
Same
Have someone a problem with the neo cool cam curtain switch on the z-wave gateway? Gate is missing the devices once per week, and I have a problem with the calibration
Fibaro
Yes, there's a #zwave-archived channel π
So, if it's connected via one of the Z-Wave integrations, you want to ask there
If it's connected via something else, you want t ask in #integrations-archived
All this is explained in the channel topic ... that you didn't read π
CC2530 supports zigbee 3.0?
Hi, since I was redirected here -- does anyone have a product recommendation for a thermostat, available in the USA, that's easy to integrate into home assistant?
#NoobQuestion, is ikea traffic socket a zigbee repeater as well ? I have 7 sensors but on of them is too far away and my conbee ii can't see it "TRΓ DFRI Draadloos plug-in stopcontact - IKEA" https://www.ikea.com/nl/nl/p/tradfri-draadloos-plug-in-stopcontact-90356166/
Tradfri not traffic π
Hello peeps!
I was looking into the Xiaomi Aqara Cube to make my home even more interesting to play with. Like changing the lights and playing with music all by using the cube! Now I was wondering, is it possible to connect the cube directly to my home assistant or do i need the Aqara Hub like Xiaomi advertises?
Couldnt find it anywhere on a forum so I just thought i'd ask here
Should work with deconz
And phoscon
Dope! Thanks, ill order one right away
Or any #zigbee-archived integration really
Anybody have experience with Ikea Tradfri power switches on deconz? I grabbed a few and they were working great for a few days but now they are intermittently unresponsive and I'm also having issues with some other zigbee devices. Problem is I also updated home assistant in the interim so hard to know what the problem is
I don't see any reports of issues with these online
#zigbee-archived π
hello π
Is there an alternative to the konnected pro board that's recommended with HA? I've got a bunch (like 30 pairs) of wired door/window sensors that I'm looking to connect up somehow
the initial idea was to use raspi gpio pins, but that hardly scales to 30 cables - konnected looks like a viable option, but 30 of these would need at least 3 boards (as I'd like to keep all that wired), comes out to $660 or so π
it'd be nice to dedicate a HA instance just for alarm & security
hey guys, does anyone of you know how to reset the xiaomi honeywell smoke detector to factory ?
Level1Techs recently made a great video on alarm panels https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGTxhyfzuiY
https://zigbee.blakadder.com/Ikea_E1603.html Yep, most mains powered zigbee devices work as zigbee routers. not all tho
Not sure. This site has pairing information, as well as a link to a post on issues with these devices https://zigbee.blakadder.com/Xiaomi_JTYJ-GD-01LM_BW.html
Thanks, a lot to digest in that one.
That's wendel for ya π
Do I get no phase shift at all at the secondary windings of a Yyn transformer?
You may want to ask the #diy-archived folks that one
Any recommendations for a good video door station (which supports a door kick relay)?
Anyone using the Sonoff ZBMini? Mine just arrived, and was expecting it to be detected by my slae.sh cc2652 + zigbee2mqtt but nothing is showing up that I can see.
@trail crag I haven't used it, but blakadder seems to suggest it should be in pairing mode out of the box, but if it isn't you can hold the reset button for 5-10 seconds until the internal LED flashes
https://zigbee.blakadder.com/Sonoff_ZBMINI.html < assuming this is the one
See, of course, the #zigbee-archived channel for help with Zigbee π
yup - it's in pairing mode - was wondering if there was anything hardware specific I'm missing
@trail crag I'd try and ask that in #zigbee-archived
I got the EcoBee thermostats. You can either integrate them through a remote API, or you can use the HomeKit functionality that's built into them for local control. I'm using the HomeKit Controller integration in HA and it works great.
Hey everyone. I'm looking for a Wi-Fi smart lock that will connect with Home Assistant. I have a Schlage Sense, but that can only use either HomeKit OR Wi-Fi. Since I have no Apple products in my house, the HomeKit route is useless and the Wi-Fi doesn't leave any integration capabilities open that I'm aware of. I can't use ZigBee or Z-Wave, so that cuts out a majority of the smart locks out there. Just wondering if anyone knows of a good quality door lock that will work with my setup of Wi-Fi only talking to HA. Also, I'm in the US.
Why can't you use ZB/ZW? It will open up the entire marketplace and is very easy to set up
I found WiFi products far more vendor-locked when I was researching - I too intended to avoid ZB/ZW a month ago
You were right, it wasn't device, it was proximity aka ZigBee π€£
I just don't have the infrastructure for it. Everything else I have is Wi-Fi. I have a totally separate wireless network for my automation system so it doesn't bog my main network down. My doors are too far apart for all of them to connect using ZB/ZW without repeaters, so I'm stuck with Wi-Fi only.
@strong egret To be fair. A zigbee repeater could be something as simple as an IKEA control switched outlet
I'd not entirely give up in ZB/ZW solutions if there's a "perfect" device out there that happens to be ZB/ZW
Your best bet for WiFi is probably going to come from igloo, nest, or ring
I believe igloo has been making massive headway in the smart locks for Airbnb sector, so hopefully some new devices there - we're actually about to integrate with them for court access at work
Yale does some WiFi locks too but I don't see them mentioned much
Thanks a bunch! That's at least closer than I was. Igloo has some slick looking stuff too.
also the keypad: https://wyze.com/wyze-sense-keypad.html
and preorders for the home monitoring setup... https://wyze.com/wyze-hms-bundle.html, which might be the only way to actually get the new hub
Hello, im seaching for an temperature/humidity sensor (perferably zigbee), currently i got the TuYa TS0201, but the update delay is way too long, to track everything
The Xiaomi Aqara ones are good
are there any with display?
The Xiaomi ones with the display are bluetooth iirc
I see a few options in the hardware lists pinned in #zigbee-archived - but the folks there can likely advise which of those are any good
thanks π
Hey, i have a WLED-device added via auto discovery, but that device had a dynamic IP in my router, now i set a static and different IP. How can i change IP adress of the WLE device in HASS?
Did you read the channel topic π
Oops sorry, did not even know that Discord channels could have topics βΊοΈ You learn as you live π
See #automations-archived for help with automations, and #integrations-archived for help with integrations π
Is there a problem with HADASHBOARD and HA token? I get after a few days that the IP tablet is blocked. I did not make any change and it is only on the local network only ..
If you want to share images, use https://imgur.com/ or similar.
Please use https://www.hastebin.com/ or https://paste.ubuntu.com/ to share code or logs
That'd be AppDaemon and HA's token, but if the token is valid, there's no problem
Has anyone got any suggestions for a smart light switch that can be wired in that can control smart bulbs? UK market is pretty lacking in options. My best bet at the moment is hue dimmer as a solution, but its just over the original switch.
have you seen anything like Philips HUE motion constantly detecting motion (e.g. even when nobody entered the area for over 5 minutes)? This started happening about 2 hours ago, and before that it behaved like I expected it to.
removing the batteries for a while and repairing solved this - but still, this isn't something one would expect to happen π
Hey everyone, quick question and hope it doesn't sound stupid. I have Yeelight S1's and I've been trying to find where/if it is required to use their application to first connect (if there is a way to do local control out of the box with home assistant). I know I can connect using their app to get on network, but was hoping...
And the Yeelight integration is working. But requires IP of the device, so therefore has to be setup with the App i think.
thanks in advance.
Will it work with HA?

I hope I'm in the right place. I am in need of an outdoor WiFi camera, that has a motion activated light that will interface with HA. Does anyone know of a decent one?
#cameras-archived may be a better place
I've had a hard time with finding a decent smart switch that can do RGB and things that can also work with HA, so I think it depends on what you want your smart bulbs to be able to do from the switch. I am getting into Shelly's. You can put the relays on detached mode and just use the normal switch to control scenes (whether it be simple On/Off or whatever).
Sonoff can do the same thing.
Hi have been given a free Teckin smart light bulb
Itβs a rgb and cct bulb - connected to ha via tuya integration.
Ha will only allow my to turn on off and warm white /ice white
- any suggestions to get ha to control the colour?
Anybody who is using Xiaomi Air Purifier 3H?
Connection is lost nearly every minute for a second. Its next to the router and signal is perfect. Everything else works correctly and I found a lot of comments about this issue but was never solved as I see.
Looks like when the device going sleep or something its going to unavailable.

I have a question about lights. I have a simple LED light, Im using Sonoff TX NO Neutral version to Turn ON and OFF. I would like to use a dimmer also, is it possible to add a Shelly Dimmer 2 or something like that next to the Sonoff TX wall switch? Does they work together?
I want to still turn on / off with Sonoff and just use the dimmer for the brightness.
in that case its easier to use just the shelly and connect a traditional switch to it
what you want is possible but not the best way to do it
Thank you I understand
Maybe there is any dimmable light switch what has no neutral version?
What ceiling fans (brands, models) are most compatible with home assistant? Tag me pls
dumb fans with smart controllers
Like pull string fans?
All for smart controllers. Any recommendation then on one that would also control fan speed?
for zwave i've been using the GE ones. Though i've heard good things about the inovelli
but i've been putting in pull string fans and a smart controller in the wall
anyone have any experience hacking data out of bluetooth devices? I have a treadmill with a garbage app and a bluetooth interface. I'd like to pull that data and get it into HA to show the family's usage.
Hi thanks
Installed the custom_tuya
Removed tuya integration beforehand
Added lights
Ticked force colour in options and still not worked??
what bulbs do you have?
its totally possible it won't work, just saying it worked for mine
either way, probably best to ask in #integrations-archived instead
as this is an issue with the integration of the light into HA, and likely not the physical lightbulb itself
Worked it out
Customise the bulb via configurations/customizations
Change supported features to 63 and save
It adds the colour wheel
uhh, sure I guess so π
But thanks as wouldnβt have figured this if you hadnβt put me onto tuya custom
np
I peeked under the hood- the treadmill is using an EFM32 with a WLT2564M dual-mode bluetooth module. I grabbed the latest firmware and ran binwalk- it looks like the firmware isn't encrypted, so at least I'm on the right track.
Is there a way to control wifi (not bluetooth) c by ge lights from HA? I'm talking about these hubless ones
