hi, I have a roborock S50 that I installed Valetudo on, should i use the MQTT Vacuum integration or should i use the xiaomi_miio vacuum?

native wigeon
#

So a while ago, I had HA setup on a Pi, attached to this was a couple of 'mysensors' DHT sensors. These sensors were RF24 which connected to a wifi gateway. I added the gateway to HA with the following in configuration.yaml

mysensors:
gateways:
- device: '192.168.54.25'

Both DHT sensors read the humidity and temperature very well. This project then went on hold, since the batteries did not power the sensors for very long. I have now resurrected the project, the sensors and gateway have not changed, but HA is now a newer version. The problem I'm having is HA is not reading the temperature of the sensors, only the humidity is being returned.

Hi guys,

The response time for the "Tuya"components (like SESOO Touch Wi-Fi Switch) in HA is quiet long (5-10 seconds),
Compere to when using Tuya APP which its working great, immediately.

I'm using Home Assistant (Hassio)
Ubuntu 18.04.3 on NUC i5 intel wired through LAN connection.

There is something can I check or do to reduce it ?
There is any profiling tool/check that I can try ?

cedar reef
#

Not the answer you want, I'm sure but I would flash it with tasmota, my Tuya plugs with Tasmota firmware respond faster than I can click the toggle in HA.

livid otter
#

Could you explain... using Tuya APP working immediately, so how the flash with tasmota , can help for using HA ?

storm dawn
#

does anyone have a roborock s50 setup, i'm having trouble getting the mqtt configured

peak talon
#

@livid otter You can either flash to Tasmota or esphome. See this. https://github.com/ct-Open-Source/tuya-convert Any questions for both of them you need to go to their respective discord. Both Tasmota and ESPhome are well integrated in HA

livid otter
#

@peak talon Thanks,
But why it working great with the Tuya app and in other hand with latency on HA ?

peak talon
#

well, with Tuya app you are directly connecting to the Tuya servers, with HA there is a bit of re-routing and authentication I guess. When you convert using Tuya-convert, you are controlling locally without internet and letting go of the tuya servers

#

if you are happy to send the data to Tuya servers, then don't bother converting through tuya-convert

livid otter
#

@peak talon Thanks for clarification.
My only concern, is that during the flash, I get stuck.

peak talon
#

in my experience, it either gets flashed or it does not. It also takes a backup of the original firmware. I must have flashed about 20 for me and some innumerable for my friends, not even once I had a unsable plug. Yes, some times it did not flash and I had to repeat the process that's it

livid otter
#

o.k.
No soldering needed, right?
Is there a need for disconnection from the power supply (out of box)?

peak talon
#

okay this will be my last message before I would ask you to go to ESPhome discord. Soldering is Not needed, but if the device is not listed in the Tuya-convert support list, you may not be able to flash. However, in my experience, anything that required smartlife of similar app, is flashable

livid otter
#

Thanks, I will move to ESPhome discord and try to find a video tutorial... as well.

The Devices and Entities views under Configuration don't show every entity in your system. If you want to see everything, look under Developer Tools then States.

Sorry @brazen viper, I have basically zero experience with MQTT. I take it your lights are using MQTT?

brazen viper
#

@ashen apex I have tasmota flashed on some Feit lights. Because they have a both a RGB channel and a White channel I have set them up so that each is controllable seperately on the Tasmota UI. Apparently one of the channels is treated as a switch and the other as a light bulb. I got the Wyze swich working to turn on and off the light when opened and closed, but getting the light to respond is proving difficult. Stay tuned. By the way the new Feit BR30 bulb on Blackaders website was one I contributed. Hope its useful to everyone

ashen apex

Cool, good luck. If you're not having much fun with Tasmota/MQTT, you could investigate ESPHome too. I opted for ESPHome after not grokking the complexities of MQTT quickly enough.

Also means you don't need an MQTT broker.

The only 'problem' I've encountered is that this switch can't be just on/off - it always fades on/off. Fine for most lights, but I've apparently got a couple of LED bulbs that are not dimmable so they flicker on occasion. The method I used was to run tuya-convert to get the base tasmota firmware on, then I've had to upgrade to tasmota minimal, then finally to the standard image, then finally apply the template and the TuyaMCU commands noted in the link you included.

  3. What exactly are you trying to do that won't work?
  4. Is the problem uniform or erratic?

@tacit plinth @ashen apex I would be super careful enabling those settings. Allot of of wifi devices still do not play well when you enable them. (google cast devices, robot vacuums) Also @tacit plinth are all the APs wired? Even though 90% of your devices are connected to the one AP whats the "Wifi experience" with most of the devices?

tacit plinth

root cause was TCL TV 12' away from a AC Lite had roamed to Dream Machine that is 30' and three walls away and couldn't stream a 1080P stream from Plex

Im 99% sure you can force a device to stay connected to a particular AP. That may be what you end up having to do

I'm not ruling out some weird network/MOCA event that blips the AC lites and everything jumps to the Dream Machine

#

#

whats the Tv's "wifi experience" when connected to the dream machine

#

vs the AP rigth next to it

#

and @tacit plinth what it might be... Your AP closest to the TV might be switching to a different wifi band that the RX and TX in the Tv doesnt have..

#

allot of time the wifi chips in tvs are weaker than puppy piss

think there is a beta setting for the APs to scan for interference every now and then and it could be messing it up

Yeah, can you pin it somwhere?

true needle

ive never done it

#

What I settled on last night, I reduced the 2.4 transmit power from auto/high to medium

and I disabled 0-11 and all CCK/802.11b

and turned off auto optimize

#

All the devices on that side of the house have been stable on that AP since then -- ~ 23hrs now

true needle
#

have you tried changing the order in which you boot up the APs

#

initially

#

again tvs typically have crappy chips and I think older chips dont work well with roaming....they just connect and stay connected to the first AP they see

tacit plinth
#

That could be it too

#

I have the Unifi presence detection on in HA and I went through the state database and I have seen the TV (device_tracker.family_room_tv) flipping between APs quite a bit since the system was installed

but again, in this case last night --- I have 46 normal clients -- all but 4 of them were on the Dream Machine

I run mine on a pie 4 4g

#

have 100+ zibgbee devices

and as of lately get a random lag spike

#

still havnt narrowed it down but dont think its a hardware bottleneck issue

#

run deconz... 99% of the time when i walk into a room the lights turn on instantly... then maybe once a day ill walk in and it takes 5secs to turn on

tacit plinth
#

yeah, that is odd -- could be zigbee retries potentially -- or a hardware processing issue

#

tough to track that down if it doesn't happen very often

true needle
#

yeah i think tink was telling me to trouble shoot with the history or logbook

#

but it takes like 5min to open those tabs lol so i havnt looked into it

tacit plinth
#

I guess I would look for deconz APSDATA type errors first at that timestamp

#

but yes, if the time delta between motion event and automation/light state change is large....

true needle
#

dont suppose your running homekit on ios are you?

tacit plinth

wonder why you gave yours a IP?

tacit plinth
#

Think I had that in there because I was running homebridge before and had it on a diff port

true needle

my HA is of course in a docker..wonder if it cant "get out"

tacit plinth

mine too -- but have it in host networking mode, right?

true needle

uhh

not really sure what that is lol

tacit plinth

it's the docker equivalent of bridged networking I think

#

so it's layer two adjacent, things can broadcast to the LAN, mdns/ssdp all works

true needle
#

weird... i never had to do ant of that the first time

tacit plinth
#

it's not technically a requirement, but it makes everything a lot easier -- especially if you want HA discovery and stuff to work

so your IP in the Homekit config

thats your HA IP

what about the port?

gonna try that for giggles i guess

Is there a good rule of thumb for the transition: function of light.turn_on? I'd like to slowly fade the lights from 0 -> 100 over 30 minutes, but any time i feed that large a value, it just goes to 100% immediately

winged knoll
#

It depends on the integration and device, so there's no "one size fits all"

faint abyss
#

Is there a reference (or place to poke into the code) that would show what to expect? It's terribly inconsistent between ZHA (light just goes full brightness, transition never works) vs Z-Wave (trying to figure the max before it craters with trial and error, but at least 900s works)

glossy prism
#

AFAIK it's very hardware dependent so i don't think so

faint abyss
#

good to know. I'll just keep tinkering to see what hardware gives the least issue and try to deploy only that in the future (new house is almost done... after years of work, trying to finalize all the tinkering i've been doing on and off in HA since .25 days)

There are some DIY things you could probably make, depending on needs, but always on live video is going to need power (or a large solar panel and battery bank)

Hello, I have a Roku Smart TV, I have been able to get it into Home Assistant as a switch with the following snippet I found on the forums:

switch:
  - platform: command_line
    switches:
      tv_living_room:
        command_on: 'curl -X POST http://192.168.1.10:8060/keypress/PowerOn'
        command_off: 'curl -X POST http://192.168.1.10:8060/keypress/PowerOff'
        command_state: 'curl -s GET http://192.168.1.10:8060/query/device-info | grep power-mode | sed -e "s:<power-mode>DisplayOff</power-mode>:OFF:" -e "s:<power-mode>PowerOn</power-mode>:ON:"'
        value_template: '{{ value == "ON" }}'
        friendly_name: Living Room TV

However, in the UI I get This entity does not have a unique ID, therefore it's settings can not be managed from the UI.. How do i add that unique id?

#

And what is the difference between an entity and a device? :/

glossy prism

There's a Roku integration...does that not work with your TV?

Home Assistant did auto discover all of my google home minis and chromcasts, so autodiscovery is working on my network

glossy prism

But to answer your questions you generally can't add a unique ID, it's usually up to the integration to support it

ah, turns out you need to address the roku by IP, even if the hostname resolves to the right ip

#

@glossy prism I see it as an entity, but not a device, what's the difference?

glossy prism
#

Yup, the docs do say IP address

#

Not all integrations support the Devices page

#

Devices add the ability to make "device automations" which try to make creating certain automations easier. Devices are I believe physical entities (button, TV, etc.) whereas an entity can be a logical device (template sensor, input_boolean, etc.) or a physical device

#

All devices are entities, but not all entities are necessarily devices. And again, not all integrations support the Devices page so you might have some physical entities that aren't Devices.

It happens with everything hooked up to the RFXtrx tranceiver.

I can set modes for the buttons (1-4) for Add, Scene, Remove Association, Learn and Default. I have each button set to Scene. The buttons say 241: Button #1 Programmable? I find it interesting why it calls them "241, 242,243 and 244". Do those numbers need to be called out somewhere?

#

This is the verbage that goes with it Default Mode 0 The button on the Minimote uses the factory default functions for operation instead of any special functionality related to the below modes. Scene Mode 1 The button on the Minimote executes a scene from data received for Parameters Numbers 0-239 related to the button being pressed. Add Mode 2 The button on the Minimote is able to include/add devices into the Z-Wave network. Remove Mode 3 The button on the Minimote is able to remove devices from the Z-Wave network. Association Mode 4 The button on the Minimote is able to associate one device to another. Learn Mode 5 The button on the Minimote is able to allow the Minimote to be included into other Z-Wave networks and to learn Z-Wave network information.

Hi everyone! Newbie here.

#

I am not sure to be honest where to address my issue - quite complex, maybe you will point me in a correct direction.
So this is the situation
I installed hass.io on VirtualBox and connected a couple of devices - everything works quite good, but all of them are integreated through second service - not directly.
Now, I have a Mija temperature sensor (BLE).
I bought bluetooth BLE dongle from China, and installed it. Now I want to read data from mija sensor, but looks like HassIo does not see it. I believe the problem is that VirtualBox is not sharing it properly, but I am lost in this.

This all is on a windows 10 machine

Dear All, could you please explain how does the device synchronization work for MQTT devices ? I mean for example i have device with relays, after relay-device restart(and powered off) the all relays will have a new default state(which is off), and then device will send the status message to HA and state in HA will be changed to the real one, but should not device request the latest status from the host in order to set it accordingly?

Hey guys, I'm looking for recommendation on device combinations to accomplish what I thought was pretty simple but doesn't seem to be... or I've simply been unlucky. I have LED strips controlled by a MagicLight compatible controller. All I want is a simple wireless button to turn the strip ON/OFF and, if possible, adjust brightness. I bought an Ikea hub and wireless dimmer and everything is integrated in Hass.io, including the LED strip controller. However, it appears as if Hass can only retrieve its battery status but not perform action on button press. I've read that a Hue Smart Button might work, but couldn't get solid confirmation. I'm also wondering if I could link that button to my Ikea Hub or I'd be forced to buy a Hue Hub. Aqara also seem like a possible solution but essential impossible to get here in Canada. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

glossy prism
#

generally an entity for the button press itself isn't created, so you usually have to listen for button press events for buttons (or use a "device automation")

#

also a good choice if you're looking to buy some zigbee stuff is to get a USB zigbee stick to act as the controller

Ok so you're saying that it is technically feasible to use what I already have?

i'm not sure if it works with the Tradfri integration (which i'm guessing you're using) but i know it does if you have a zigbee stick

@zealous dune no, was using tasmotizer, and trying with config file from that. I new to all tjus so was trying for an easy solution, im not a programmer just a user with some electronic and electrical knowledge, smart home is a new venture for me

@tacit plinth it flashes tamota ok, but not the config

#

if i send set ssid1 and password1 commands will i then be able to see it in tasmoadmin, to do rest if config?

#

guess i shoud set module type as well?

zealous dune
#

are you running tasmoadmin while configuring the new device?

sharp fjord
#

No, but have it installed in ha

#

should i stop it in ha?

zealous dune
#

if its running its sending http requests to your device every 5 seconds... that tends to choke them or even crash them constantly

sharp fjord
#

ah - didnt know that...

#

didnt think it would have any effect until the divice is added in there

#

will have to try this all later now as my daughter just got home... thanks for all the pointers, i will get there... was thinking i was starting easy with ha and tasmota... but seems to be a steep learning curve lol

Looking for a way to get rid of some ghost devices... left over from attempts to add z-wave and zigbee devices where the add process failed... I have tried everything I could find in the forums. My last attempt was to use samba to get access to the core.device_registry and entity files. Stopped the server from the cli, edited the files and saved them, restarted the server and these files were overwritten upon startup and the devices I removed were added to the end of the files... I must either be missing something stupid simple or these files are generated from some other set of files... Can someone give me a few tips?

So after hours this afternoon, re-flashed my sonoff, with tasmotizer, then connected to it wifi with my ipad, configured it to my wifi, then went into tasmoadmin and configured it, all in about 10mins! Thanks for the help @zealous dune also @tacit plinth ๐Ÿบ

https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/xiaomi_aqara/ mentions "Unsupported Devices: Xiaomi Aqara Gateway (lumi.gateway.aqhm01), as it is not possible to activate dev mode in the Mi Home App." Device is supported through the Homekit integration. Is that enough to change that info?
@split atlas Hello. Is it really supported? I'm trying to use it, but got problems.

#

Hello. I added my aqara hub (ZHWG11LM/lumi.gateway.aqhm01) via HomeKit integration. But I don't see my water sensors.
I use latest version HA. It is not supported yet?
I can only control LED and ARM mode on this hub.

I switched to Zigbee2MQTT though, works better with all zigbee devices combined, not just Xiaomi platform

I'd like to make updates to the web interface faster. Presently, I'm running Home Assistant on a Mint Linux Laptop. I probably have about 12 devices hanging off it. Mostly TASMOTA flashed Sonoffs, but a few raw ESP-8266s. Since they're spattered around the house, I mostly add temperature sensors to them. One of them has 6 temperature sensors (up the side of the hot water tank, so I can tell the hot water level).

#

One thing which makes the web interface run a lot faster is when I reduce the size of the database file. I've limited it to 7 days and it's still over 2Gb. Ideally, I'd like to keep 30 days data.

#

The CPU nor disk every goes really busy. Not even on a web page refresh. Does it sound like sifting the database is the bottleneck? I'm considering swapping out the HDD for an SSD, but I'd like to look at soft options first. What else might I look for? Is there a faster database?

winged knoll
#

Moving away from SQLite to ... anything else will be a big improvement

#

I'd also move historical data to something like InfluxDB

tribal star
#

I presume SQLlite is the default, which I'm using (unbeknown to me)? Give me an entry point, please. Steer me tot he idiot's guide to moving away from this DB.

#

If I move historical data to a second DB, is that still interfacing to HA? Has this been done? Can I integrate with two DBs?

#

It is, yes

anyone know how to remove a single device from an integration?

split atlas
#

@split atlas Can you please provide any ref/manual or some information how to configure it? Thanks.
@ocean hinge Make sure to add all sensors/zigbee devices through the Xiaomi app. Do that this specific way:

  1. First add the Hub to the App
#
  1. click the hub, and choose 'child devices'
#
  1. add the zigbee devices there. If you do it through 'add device' in Xiaomi app itself it will not work as well
#
  1. after all child devices have been added, add hub to HA through Homekit integration
#

but if you are planning on having a wider range of devices in your house I would advice you to use Zigbee2MQTT and ditch Xiaomi hub all together

Hi all, still struggling... trying to get my 1st device - a sonoff flashed with tasmota into home assistant, have mqtt (mosquiotto) installed, tried viewing youtube guides, tried setopion19 1 (that reset its ssid config...?..) all stuff im finding seems to be out of date, as the configuration.yamlโ€™s show a #homeassistant at the start and mine doesnt , tried to put it in manually in the yaml, but dont really j derstand what im doing... would like to get one thing up and running do i can start to learn by playing with it - any help please

its a sonoff, t2uk3ch...

wet moat

the windows app mqttexplorer is a nice way see what is going on. or the mosquitto_sub/pub cli linux commands

#

and i think the tasmota console shows what its publishing

#

see if the mqtt stuff is being sent out and what you expect. there's also the topic sub tool in dev tools in HA

#

i just like the windows tool because of its hierarchy and history

sharp fjord

I can see a client Connectionwith the ip address of the sonoff sw in mosquitto Log...

so thats good, is it publishing any messages?

not sure where or what you mean... sorry complete noob

its ok, for quick an easy, go to dev tools in HA -> mqtt and listen to topic "#"

#

you may need to make the device do something for it to publish

sharp fjord

so in dev tools, mqtt

#

listen to a topic put # and clicked start listening

screen went loading data and then back to dev tools screen

if i look at the logs i can see a new websockey.api(ERROR)
