I just realized partial restore was a thing, so i restored NPM. But the SSL cert still doesn't work. When I click Test Server Reachability, I get Communication with the API failed, is NPM running correctly?.

Adding a second record seems to work for the IP resolving. I first tried to replace the ipv4 address with the ipv6 address, which did not work.

So now I have two hosts with the domain and with an ipv4 and ipv6 address. I still have to do some troubleshooting but I think I am on the right track

hey guys, i know this is an unsupported way to do things, but i kinda NEED locks... so, im trying to use portainer on HassOS. problem is, file system appears to be write locked from every angle on portainer, so, i cant create that a homebridge container.

What is the least bad practice while doing something like this? any folders i specifically should point to for holding container config? i dont want to go changing file/folder permissions to force this to work like i usually do, trying to build out as close to best as i can while still retaining core funstionality (like my locks 🙂 )

elder schooner

Not using HAOS and migrating to a container install is the least bad practice

Portainer will ensure an unhealthy HAOS host, and things will stop working

#

everything was working fine a couple weeks ago and then just stopped.

any ideas how I can fix it? I like the service

elder schooner

Vaultwarden should work as soon as the certificate is fixed. It insists on a valid and trusted one.
But I don't use DuckDNS, you might have to wait for someone familiar with that.

Thank you

ocean kernel
weary stratus
#

nope. Didn't know there was sucha thing

ocean kernel
#

run it through there. itll take a couple minutes

#

it might even shed some light on where your issue is

#

something else to do is to check when the certificate was issued/expires

#

if you have your old cert cached, look at its credentials and see when they expired. you may have to go through the "letsencrypt" process again (its been a LONG time since ive messed with hosting apps inside of HA. its a lot easier to run everything as individual containers.)

weary stratus
#

We were able to retrieve a certificate for this site, but the domain names listed in it do not match the domain name you requested us to inspect. It's possible that:

The web site does not use SSL, but shares an IP address with some other site that does.
The web site no longer exists, yet the domain name still points to the old IP address, where some other site is now hosted.
The web site uses a content delivery network (CDN) that does not support SSL.
The domain name is an alias for a web site whose main name is different, but the alias was not included in the certificate by mistake.
#

None of the common names in the certificate match the name that was entered (website.duckdns.org). You may receive an error when accessing this site in a web browser.

ocean kernel
weary stratus
#

I am not following lol

#

How do I correct this issue?

ocean kernel
#

what youre trying to do requires all of your information from point a to point b and back to be encrypted. to enforce that encryption, you issue a certificate which is then signed by a third party guaranteeing that when you type in mysite.com it goes to mysite.com. instead, yours points to yoursite.com. check to make sure your public IP matches where your DNS forwarder is sending your site. (make sure that mysite.com points ultimately to your networks public IP address (go to ipchicken.com to check public IP). if all of that matches, make sure your internal network handles your data correctly so that something like traefik or something like pfsense handles all the port forwarding correctly.

#

or, since you mentioned duckDNS, my guess is that their second scenario is more likely... your IP address changed and you havent informed your DNS forwarder

#

which is part of issue 1, but more explicit.

weary stratus
#

okay. I am going to look into this. let me check it out. Thank you so much

Does anyone know how the official SSH Addon for HASS https://github.com/hassio-addons/addon-ssh "Limits login attempts to hold off brute-force attacks better." ?

I've got a script that needs to connect several times via SSH to perform a single command, and then disconnect. Each connection is authenticated and successful but every 5th connection gets stalled and "Connection reset by peer" after several minutes, slowing down the execution time of the script and hindering it's functionality as only some of the commands are executed... I think I want to change the conditions of that anti-brute-force configuration to be a little more lenient to my very specific host. Does anyone know if this is possible?

I think thats handled by letsencrypt (duckdns)

Hey @lime girder , I feel awkward pinging you for this (and a little terrified since it seems the name you put on Github no longer matches Discord's new format, so I hope I got the right guy here)
I'm trying to get your AMR2MQTT addon working. It's close, I think.

So first, details. I bought this SDR because the brand and chipset seem to be well known to the SDR community to work correctly.
My meter is an R300, but I think for the issue I'm having, that is irrelevant. (I'd be glad to send you the manual if you ask though)
My log: https://hastebin.com/share/vawefohoka.yaml

I am running Home Assistant through a QEMU virtual machine managed by Proxmox. I have the SDR setup to pass-through to the VM.

As you can see, I'm getting some kind of Signal caught, exiting! error, which is likely related to the rtlsdr_demod_write_reg failed with -9 later on.
Looking into that rtlsdr_demod_write_reg error, I found this. Sounds like a USB level issue. Unfortunately, everything I look up talks about error code -7 but nothing about -9. I'll have to keep digging but I'm getting a suspicion this may be a red herring.

Reading around I saw that SDRs should show up under /dev/rtl, but that directory doesn't exist in the VM.
So at this point I'm trying to think through this... could I be missing a kernel module?

Having some trouble with MQTT communicating with the Ring-MQTT add on. It was all working fine for a week and I’ve since been getting errors in the log of the MQTT add on. They go away when I disable the Ring-MQTT add on but haven’t been able to find a fix to get them playing nicely again. Am I right in thinking it’s an authentication issue? Hey guys, probably an issue that come up before but my searching hasn't really found much. Trying to search for certs issues is a bit of a minefield. So I'm setting up my HAOS, moving from a containerised setup. I've added nginx and letsencrypt to handle the UI encryption for external connections. I've got Lets Encrypt doing its thing and have a cert. It dumps it to a /data/letsencrypt directory for the domain.

Nginx wants it in /ssl/. I don't want to manually move the files, so maybe a symlink would work to the /ssl/ location. But seem like this should maybe just work??

That's one of the reasons I don't like or use addons. You're very reliant on the maintainers and their choices. Not necessarily their fault. It's unfeasible to have a million options and choices for all use cases.

I like the part where that I rely on maintainer to do the work. Doing custom stuff is what usually get me in maintenance hell sooner or later. Not just in case of addons or HA. 😉

The add-on adds 2GB of RAM just after the install, before adding any devices

supple grove

Adds where? How did you measure that?

Proxmox > VM > Summary > Memory usage

I could see it jumps with each zignee2mqtt add-on that I've added

supple grove
dreamy cloud
#

I had my previous setup with one zigbee2mqtt instnace, hundreds of devices, and it took much less RAM.

but that had only 1 add on

What I found out is that the installation of the add-on itself is what makes the memory jumps

supple grove
dreamy cloud

in HA > Hardware > Memory
It says 1 GB / 8 GB

grim nebula
#

doing the same, now running 3 z2m instances after having 1 instance and ~200 devices (almost all of them routers)

dreamy cloud
#

you run all of them as add-ons inside HA? Did you notice high RAM usage in proxmox?

grim nebula
#

yes and i did not notice because i did not look 😄

#

but also proxmox here

dreamy cloud
#

That's one way of solving it

supple grove

If you're so worried about memory usage don't give your VM more than it needs and try to come to terms with the fact that PVE's memory stat does not show what you think it does. At least for linux.

grim nebula
#

locking at docker stats shows ~90MiB per instance

#

so nothing to talk about

dreamy cloud

I changed HA VM memory from 8GB to 7GB, and for some reason the usage went down too, all the way back to 2GB

with the 3 instances running

So I'll be able to create that 4th zigbee2mqtt instance after all, and who knows, maybe i'll break a record in coordinators.

I'm having a strange issue with ESPHome devices, specifically media players; this has been working for years and only now just started playing up; when I try to play a media file from the dashboard Media page to an ESPHome media player, the media player is receiving an address for the media file, that contains the Gateway address of the docker bridge network that the supervisor sits on (I'm using HAOS on bare metal).

#

This is what I see in the ESPHome log for hte media player device: http://172.30.232.1:8123/media/local/Doorbell.mp3

I followed the instructions here:

And went for the proxy instructions. in my tailscale account https certificates are enabled and i also added the 3 lines to the configuration.yaml to enable proxy.

After a restart, i go to machine_name.mytailscalesubdomain.ts.net and it works......on http. When i change http to https, i get a ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR. With the browser saying it received a invalid answer.

the last part of the docs mention that you cant use the normal port to access home assistant anymore... I still can when using the ip address. and when i try to use 443 as port in the browser it gives no results, the standard home assistant port 8123 is "working" as in, it gives the ssl error.

I don't use pis myself but I've seen at least twice where a powered hub fixed file system related issues and it's one of the first recommendations for SBC (or at least pi) users with USB powered storage.
You can use the phpMyAdmin addon, the mysql CLI from the SSH addon or if you set a port for the MariaDB addon you can use a client of your choosing. I like HeidiSQL.
Not that there's anything to connect to

There is an example config using provider 'dns-he', but when starting this addon it comes thru as null in the log. 'dns-he' is not listed as a supported provider on the documentation page, even though the same page has an example showing it. Is this a bug, or a documentation error?

limpid wasp

The only way to do internal only without a custom domain is self-signed and then pin trust on your devices... Well, not the only but it's the easiest (alternate is an internal root ca and then issue certs from there). No cert issues at all will issue a certificate to an IP address, or a .local 'domain'. You have to prove domain ownership for a trusted certificate.

Hi!
I need to set up a forward proxy server. So that I could do access websites as if I am at home, even though I am not. (curl google.com -x <home ip>:<port>)
Before using the HA, I used openhab and easily solved the problem by installing the Squid proxy server next to the running openhab.
Now that I'm using HA, which is acting like it is an OS itself, I'm struggling to understand if there is an addon for that.
So far I've only managed to access the home device by ssh using ssh and zerotier addons.

Yes and no. The recorder retention only affects HA's database, not influx. There's also still statistical history.

Either the UI works or it doesn't, I don't know any way you could only break add-on access

I have found a few posts which include try restarting, rebooting, just waiting (its been around 12 hours since install completed). It does have internet access.

Is there anything I need to configure to get the add-on store to populate? Thanks

hey all, slightly weird one

yesterday I upgraded from a Pi4 to a Pi5, restoring my HA backup. I installed HAOS using the process in the docs - using the Raspberry Pi OS installer to flash an SDcard with the HA image. Everything works great!

...except for the Terminal/SSH add-ons. Both the official one and the "advanced ssh & web terminal" one refuse to start, logging only the error exec /init: exec format error. If I'm reading the search correctly, this usually indicates an arch mismatch, like you've put the x86 or x64 docker container onto the ARM Pi. Except I just clicked "install" in HA's addon store, so I'm not sure how it could be wrong. All my other add-ons seem to be working fine.

anyone seen this before? is it a KI in the latest release?

Hello!

I have a home server with a number of applications such as HomeAssistant. These are accessed individually via different ports.
Now I want to reach my home server with a name instead of the local IP address. I have already installed nginx proxy manager and adguard (as AdBlock service), but after configuring nginx it still does not work. The page was not found it tells me. What should I do now?

Regards,

PolizeiDreamy

jade isle
#

You want to reach the HA instance by FQDN, ok?

#

(fully qualified domain name)

vestal stratus
jade isle
#

You mean to say from external, or internal in the LAN?

vestal stratus
#

internal

jade isle
#

Then nginx doesn't come into play.

vestal stratus
#

How do I do that then?

jade isle
#

You need to configure your router / dhcp server to issue and manage a local domain suffix

vestal stratus
#

on the dhcp is not with the ports

jade isle
#

You're mixing / confusing things.

#

If all you want is to be able to say point your browser to homeassistant.lan:8123 in your browser

#

instead of 192.x.x.x:8123

#

You need to configure your router / dhcp provider

#

with that domain suffix

jade isle
#

Here's how to do it on an Asus router:

vestal stratus
#

i have the fritzbox

jade isle
#

I'm not familiar with FritzOS capabilities and / or settings

#

But you should dig around in the interface

vestal stratus
#

can I do it with Addon Adguard?

jade isle
#

I don't think so.

#

That capability is linked to the DHCP server

#

which in your case (I'm asuming) is the FritzBox

#

Nothing to do with Nginx, AdGuard or HA.

vestal stratus
#

I have set it so that the router (fritzbox) sends the DNS requests to Adguard

jade isle
#

See if this helps you

#

Apparently the local default setting is fritz.box

#

If you have reserved the HA box IP in the Fritz

#

then you already should be able to type <whateveryourHAisnamed>.fritz.box

vestal stratus
jade isle
#

replace HA with whatever name you used

#

(in the DHCP reservation)

vestal stratus
jade isle
#

Obviously - you need to replace HA with the name you used in the DHCP reservation screen in the FritzBox, for your HA box mac address

vestal stratus
#

is work

#

thank you

jade isle
#

Alles gut/

atomic summit
jade isle
#

Hey

#

Does your router report the WAN IP?

#

(don't share it, just tell me if it does)

atomic summit
#

i dont know

#

i cant find it

#

it does have a section "ethernet WAN connection"

jade isle
#

Look for a status page

atomic summit
#

didnt find it but i found somthing else intresting

#

an integrated dynamic dns provider

jade isle
#

if that works reliably, then you don't need duckdns

atomic summit
#

found the "WAN MAC address"

jade isle
#

nvm

atomic summit
#

how would i then integrate it withhomeassistant is the question

#

it does have a few providers possible

jade isle
#

Well then no, that's just something that helps you configure DynDNS if you already have a provider from that list

#

which you don't

atomic summit
jade isle
#

Are you sure the duckdns token has been correctly pasted in?

#

I would doublecheck that

#

then restart the duckdns addon

atomic summit
#

Wouldn't it show in the logs if it was wrong

#

I had that problem before

jade isle
#

right - what do the duckdns addon log say

atomic summit
#

Nochange
[Timestamp] info ok
Wrong ip

#

Over and over again

#

With wrong ip i mean it does give an ip just thz wrong one

jade isle
#

restart it

#

check the log again

#

Can you refresh your WAN IP

#

(usually disconnect / connect the pppoe or whatever connection you have)

#

or in simple terms, shut down your router for 2 mins.

atomic summit
#

i would rather not shutdown my router

jade isle
atomic summit
#

as my family is using the wifi

jade isle
#

Well, the path you're on now, is to establish whether your ISP is using CGNAT

#

And whether you can potentially get around that, by trying to refresh your WAN IP

#

As internally, stuff is working.

atomic summit
#

ok if i understand correctly cgnat stops dynamic dns servers

#

but

#

if it has a help thing for dynamic dns providers

#

i would assume it wouldnt right?

jade isle
#

simple terms, duckdns and CGNAT do not mix.

atomic summit
#

ah just specifically duckdns

jade isle
#

That's the router default interface

#

doesn't mean the ISP supports that

#

not specifically duckdns

#

any dynamic dns

atomic summit
#

ah

#

ok

jade isle
#

that is not provided by your ISP

atomic summit
#

yeah but i really cant restart the wifi at the moment

jade isle
#

duckdns has an agent polling the internet, telling a DNS server somewhere that mydomain.duckdns.org is on this ISP, with this IP address.

#

and updating that DNS entry quickly

atomic summit
#

could i use another dynamic dns provider instead?

jade isle
#

You could try, but if CGNAT is employed, it would not help you.

atomic summit
#

yeah but a dynamic dns provider that is supported by my isp

jade isle
#

provided by, not supported

atomic summit
#

yeah

#

that

jade isle
#

That is very rare

#

And in your country, highly unlikely.

atomic summit
#

fair enough

jade isle
#

🙂

atomic summit
#

i do not know the diffrence

#

but my family is also using the internet i assume lol

jade isle
#

Wifi will still work, but you would not be connected to the internet.

#

Well, then netflix is more mission critical than you figuring out the issue. So up to you 🙂

atomic summit
#

so you are sitll connected to the modem

#

no my parents are doing actual important things

#

and will probably kill me if i kill the wifi at this momet

jade isle
#

Fair enough.

atomic summit
#

i just realised

#

the only thing i find of the wan

#

is the WAN MAC address

#

wich is not the WAN IP address is it

#

the dyndns thing

#

has an option "custom"

#

would that be possible or something?

#

my isp supports/provides no-ip

#

wich has a homeassistant integration

atomic summit
#

i have researched a lot more

#

the duckdns addon just doesnt detect the right ip

#

but the one it does detect is not a "non routable ip"

#

so according to my research it is probably not a cgnat problem

jade isle
#

All signs point to that

#

I can't be sure, of course.

jade isle
#

And update your domain with the public IP through which you exit

#

If it's unable to do that, it more often than not means one thing - CGNAT

atomic summit
#

Ugh

#

Imma try again tomorrow

jade isle
#

If CGNAT is in play, your other solution would be your own domain (paid for) and cloudflare tunnels

#

or a better ISP

quick trench
#

you probably need to purchase a static IP

#

or an addressable IP, most ISPs that do CGNAT also offer an IP that is available to get around CGNAT specifically for servers.

#

a cloudflare tunnel will get around that, or nabucasa, or a vlan

This started happening quite suddenly, no issues in the first 6 months of use. I did add a laptop/server to it shortly before it began happening, but no idea what the relation could be. That server is no longer using the DNS and the issue persists.

The #zigbee-archived channel can best help, but make sure that you've not flashed the multi-protocol firmware, and that you don't have either the multi-protocol add-on or ZHA (may show as Sonoff...) integration enabled

HA itself does not interfere with add-ons. HAOS or supervisor updates may - have not tested WireGuard with HAOS 12 myself.

Apparently the config is in /data/config/www/nextcloud/config/config.php.
You can check if/where that's mounted similar to this with the advanced SSH addon and disabled protection mode:

You can copy & paste error messages from the logs

If it is longer than 15 lines, with a code sharing site

river wharfBOT
#

Please use a code share site to share code or logs, for example:

Please don't use Pastebin, since it can randomly add spaces to the main view. Please also don't share text as images since it makes it harder for people to help you. Remember that others may have colour blindness, impaired vision, etc.

I have been smashing my head against this issue for hours now. I have MPD. It finally can play a damn mp3 file out of the device. It can plan any MP3 I want! but if I try to play a playlist then everything goes to shit. MPD gets buried in "exception: CURL failed: The requested URL returned error: 401" and the HAOS log gets a bunch of "Login attempt or request with invalid authentication from 243ffc37-mpd.local.hass.io". I've tried every single thing I can think of here, from making the IP of the add-on a trusted network, to trying to give it its own user (mpd let's you specify a user, but NOT a password), to changing both the file path and music directory configs in a thousand different ways. I'm at my wits end with this nonsense. I'm just trying to play a playlist for christ's sake

What is better? To run Zigbee2MQTT and MQTT broker as an LXC seperate from my HA VM or install them as addons on my HA VM? (Proxmox Hypervisor)

supple grove

One benefit of separating Z2M from HAOS is that it can stay online if you upgrade the OS, for example. Whether you personally benefit from that I can't say. I run most of my services as docker containers in a dedicated VM for that.

# obtuse epoch What is better? To run Zigbee2MQTT and MQTT broker as an LXC seperate from my HA...

I prefer deploying each of my services in separate LXC containers, with each service backed up individually. This way, if there’s a mishap, I can restore that specific service without affecting the others.

By having Node-Red, MQTT, and Zigbee2MQTT in separate LXC containers, you can create automations thoughtfully within Node-Red to ensure that critical processes continue even if Home Assistant goes down.
