tinkerer you're faster then the light 🙂 ty !
searching where i can download the latest firmware for my zzh stick

Remove the coordinator backup file
If only it was all linked from the Z2M site
i used this firmware for my stick : CC2652R_coordinator_20210120.hex
the backup file ...searching
That's a current one... interesting that you didn't actually read my message then...
reading right now 🙂
removing the coordinator back file did the trick ! 👍
i need to re-pair the devices
oh nice ! i re-paired the device and zigbee2mqtt gave it the same old name i used
hiii, I am trying to make my first zha quirk for a moes 2-gang no-neutral wired switch while also having almost no coding experience 😉
I've paired the device, captured these logs: https://pastebin.com/GTXz5VnE
and on the basis of these logs I made this quirk:
using a 2-gang tuya switch as a base
does this look like it's going to work?
and I see that home assistant has a custom quirk path in configuration.yaml, but which docker image should I put that quirk into?
If you use the custom quirk path option, just put it in a folder in your /config folder
ok, great!
i could use the xiaomi hub 2 as a router probably ( to extend the signal)
No
it amazes me that i can use the temp sensor of a xiaomi door contact
It’s not accurate. More like the temp of the radio in the sensor.
Than the environment it’s in
true
Any thoughts on CC2652R (zzh!) vs conbee ii?
zzh!
(I’d quietly push the ones I make but am out of stock of components 😭)
or try the new circuitsetup.us board uses the same cc2652p2 module I use just with pcb antenna vs external with zzh/mine.
Sadly I couldn't get this to work I do not have all the packages needed honestly don't know how to get the package for ./ncp.py scan to work
@dawn sable Tube's stuff works great. No link issue so far.
Got my poe coord from tube this morning (10 days to UK)
i wonder if i can change the zigbee 'channel'
usually you can
a bit offtopic but i like your webpage
You can, but you have to repair
*re-pair
thx
Reaper
Actually... SOMETIMES you need to re-pair (usually you do), but some Zigbee3 devices do support searching for channels.
I wish to change my controller, will I have to re-add all of my devices?
from CC1352P2 to CC2652P2
Ah found info I needed. I don't need to re-pair
@molten linden ! poe controller arrived, thanks man. Is the poe module essentially a poe powered esp32? that could be well handy for some other projects I have in mind
indeed, it's an Olimex ISO-POE-ESP32 board.
Excellent, thanks. I'll see if I can get my hands on some for nestbox cam and some other stuff!
I'm moving from a conbee to a zzh controller, will i need to start from scratch, or is there a migration process? (looks like someone just asked this, but i haven't been able to find the info yet myself...)
I don't believe there's any way to migrate between the two, but I could well be wrong
Hi, back at it again xD. I'm running homeassistantos in a vmware vm but I'm really tired of the ZHA integration randomly going to unavailable in combination with some specific other integrations
Can I run my zigbee system in a different VM or something?
If you use Zigbee2MQTT you can
But how do I do that, docker?
And another question, I'm running ubuntu with vmware installed but the server (an old laptop) can barely handle it, is there a way to install a vm manager as an OS or something?
Just asking 🙂
Docker is good, and Zigbee2MQTT has good docs for that
And yes, it's called VMWare ESXi, but it probably won't run on your laptop
Of course, you could ditch the VM and embrace Docker instead
And a lighter linux distro? xD
Well, Debian, as long as you don't install a GUI
But is the difference between docker and vmware really that big in resource usage?
And in what kind of lightness 2 times lighter or 1.5 time lighter what should I think of xD
It's infinite lighter 👀
Right now you have:
OS -> VM -> OS -> Docker -> HA
If you cut out the first two, suddenly things improve
I learn something new every day in this discord...
And is it easy to migrate the whole HA system or is it a pain in the ass
Well, depends on many things, somewhere between easy and nightmare 😛
Haha I'm in for the challenge
HA itself is easy. If you're going from add-ons to no add-ons, then depending on your skills that could be easy, or hard
extremely hard*
Is it also possible to run the HomeAssitantOS image in a docker container like I do now?
No, it uses Docker
You may find that Proxmox is lighter than your current setup, if your current setup has a desktop UI
You know what, I'll firstly just experiment with the z2m docker setup
And when I have absolutely nothing to do with my life I'll try and run HA in docker
Thanks!
I am having some odd intermittent problems with my Zigbee network. Sometimes when I execute a scene some light bulb is not affected, so it stays on. I am using a Conbee II stick with the Conbee software running as an external gateway an on RPi. Any tips on how to troubleshoot this?
Yeah, don't use scenes with too many entities when using a Conbee. I've had a similar issue.
You could either switch to zigbee2mqtt with a Texas Instruments stick (zzh!, tubes coordinators and more) or use ZHA in Home Assistant with a Texas Instruments stick or an EZSP-based stick (such as an Elelabs Zigbee stick). In my experience, TI or EZSP sticks treat multiple unicast commands much better than Conbee
I'm trying to pair my Tradfri Motion sensor to the Conbee II
and am not having any luck
also
can you run deconz and Conbee II at the same time?
OR is it a one or the other type situation?
i meant to say ZHA and conbee II
ahh!!
I meant Deconz and ZHA!
When trying to add deconz... i keep getting "Couldn't get an API Key" , and I already clicked "
Athenticate Key
or rather authenticate app
nevermind
Yeah, one stick, one Zigbee integration. You're either using ZHA or deCONZ
So Im having trouble getting my Tradfri Shortcut button to integrate with HA
not sure if its pairing properly
So I was able to add another tradfri Shortcut button I have... and this time, events are showing up in dev tools
the odd thing is,... new switch shows up in the deconz map...
but it doesnt show a link
whereas the one that is giving me issues, doe show a link
what does fire event do?
It manually fires an event
oh
I put deconz_event there and fired event
is it possible that can screwe stuff up?
@delicate lodge posted a code wall, it is moved here --> https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/hZr2yJKxhs/
Oops 😦
so that is what the events look like... only issue is, I think "event:" seems to increment
So would I just copy and paste this code into the event field when creating automations?
Rule #6: Please do not post codewalls (text longer than 15 lines) - use sites such as https://paste.ubuntu.com/ (just not Pastebin).
Please take the time now to review all of the rules and references in #rules.
No, you have to copy the relevant data over, formatting correctly
Looking at the graphical visualisation of the zigbee network i see my zigbee mesh where red lines are bad connections. Should i actively interfere by looking at those and force a reconnect to a nearby router? Or does the network sort itsself out?
sometimes a have a statusunknown device hanging near a router but the device is connected to somewhere else
I have a problem I would like some guidance with #integrations-archived message
Wellp
I decided to switch back to ZHA... and ...surprisingly, a lot of the issues that caused me to drop it for Deconz, have gone away
everything seems to be working fine!
Adding all the Ikea stuff was entirely straight forward...
Stupid easy :/
so following on the conversation here. As i said I am using a CC2531 USB dongle. It works ok upstairs and struggles to connect devices downstairs and outside the house. I understand that i need repeaters. iKea ones perhaps. However, I do have a lidl silvercrest zigbee gateway. Anyone tried flashing those yet? the instructions here are very generic. https://paulbanks.org/projects/lidl-zigbee/
I'd not have said generic to that lot
The other option would be to find and buy a CC2652 stick (assuming you're using Zigbee2MQTT)
can anyone shed some light on this Zigbee Home Automation pairing log? Cant re add devices on mains anymore. All devices are on Unknown status
https://pastebin.com/vcfDzN1U
if i delete the integration i loose everything?
or is there some log HA digs into to regain name/settings/entities?
re pairing batterypowered devices work
re adding mains devices are not found
after upgrading the tasmota bridge all my devices where unknown status so im manually adding them again but the mains arent adding
the gateway IS working correctly. I can pair Mains when i switch mode on the gateway
But i cant when pairing in HA
i deleted 3 ikea gui10 devices which where working fine earlier and they wont pair up, although in pairing mode. gateway is right under the bulbs
I need to do a converter. I think I know what I need to add. I need to adjust the device/linkind.js file. Under the config directory I see the zigbee2mqtt directory. I also see the configuration.yam.. I think I know what I need to add and I was going to add it to devices/linkind.js. What I don't see is where the .js file under HA addon. So how do you change the .js files in the HA addon? I think this issue is related https://github.com/zigbee2mqtt/hassio-zigbee2mqtt/issues/107 I don't see any responses.
you need to add an external converter
Where is the .js on the HA directory?
you will edit the linkind.js only when doing a PR
I've got an Ikea roller blind that runs off a battery. I've just charged it this evening and it is still showing as the same battery %age that it was prior to charging. Does it take Zigbee2MQTT a while to update?
Oh, we can't do if from the HA config directory, correct?
no, zigbee2mqtt is not a part of HA
Yup. Devices themselves decide when to report their battery status.
So would I do the PR to the z2m github or the addon github?
Maybe try power cycling the gateway?
i did many times
dayum. it also shit the bed when I plugged the battery in and reset its max length on me
it actually reversed the blind on the roller....
From what I've seen, that's a known issue. At least, I've seen a bit of chatter about it on the Z2M discord.
What kind of router devices do you have? As in, are they all the same brand and model? Or are they different?
I've also seen the CC2531 get stuck and refuse to let new devices connect until it's been power cycled
No, that thing's slightly less bad than the CC2531
i know i should invest in a USB one. but for now i want this up and running again
jesus.... bloody sweedes
ill pull plug and re try
Just wondering, how long does it take for the PR to go from z2m to addon, then become an update to my instance? Am I looking at the workflow correctly?
Well, the add-on is just a wrapper for Z2M
So, Z2M gets updated, and almost immediately the add-on is too
Only if you're still using the wrong repo do you not get the update
the bulb wont add. the light is blinking in pairing mode right under its nose
[0xf81d:zdo] ZDO request ZDOCmd.Node_Desc_req: [0x0000]
[0xf81d:zdo] Unsupported ZDO request:ZDOCmd.Node_Desc_req```
That got my attention. How do I know if I have the right one?
Easy, check the Z2M docs
I can tell you already that you're almost certainly not
1.19.0 came out over a week ago, and 1.19.1 followed
I will tell you from experience that the Ikea gu-10 bulbs go bad... often. I had 20 of them at one point and in the span of 6 months, 12 of them had died... I got to the point that I actually replaced the fixtures because I was tired of replacing them.
i have 3 of them. only doing 1 now. Ill switch to another and put it in pairng
one more question, does the devices live in the controller like zwave. So if I remove the current addon and switch, will I have to pair again?
the only two bulbs that I have problems with are Ikea bulbs...
They are associated in the database.db and configuration.yaml. So, you shouldn't have to repair so long as you back up the data directory.
holy crap. one is paired again
thanks for the tip. I am using ZHA to configure the CC2531. You mean, I should replace CC2531 with CC2652? Ideally, I would love to change my lidl gateway to talk to HA. It's really good in terms of coverage i.e. mine is in the Attic (Top floor) and it has no problems detecting all the GU10's in the living room downstairs.
If I click on the documtation tab I current have it has this URL (https://github.com/zigbee2mqtt/hassio-zigbee2mqtt/tree/master/zigbee2mqtt) If I click on the link in the z2m read.me I get this URL (https://github.com/zigbee2mqtt/hassio-zigbee2mqtt) so I am assuming the latter (https://github.com/zigbee2mqtt/hassio-zigbee2mqtt) is the one I want.
As far as I know, you'll be fine
I don't use add-ons though, so
This can get confusing. I can't tell the difference or am I missing something?
You probably should have removed the old add-on repo first 😄
I was just curious.
For future what it is worth. Here is what I did and saw best to my old man's memory.
So, I did backup the addon directory. Then uninstall the addon. Then removed both from the repository. Then add the one back that I hope is right. 🙂 When I open the web interface, one of my buttons was there. I stopped it, then copied the directory back and still only showing one button. The could be because it is the only one that might be reporting battery. I wonder if we should make some small tweak to the current addon to make it more recognizable?
Question, does the config on the addon uses the configuration from the HA config dir? The reason I am asking, I copied the directory, but now the configuration.yaml is wrong.
It uses the config from the add-ons config dir, not HAs
Actually, I may have misspoken, the configurations yaml I was looking at was in the zigbee2mqtt directory under the HA config. Kind of doesn't matter at this point. 🙂 I will mess with the ones not showing once I get a chance.
ok, i do have the uart to usb device. and opened up the hub. whats the best way to connect it to the uart device. here is the board: #diy-archived message
Is there a way to edit the path (usb) from ZHA integration if i swap the zigbee usb stick with a new one or do i need to repair everything again (start over)?
yes, you can change it in the .storage/core.config_entities
but you will need to migrate your stick settings to the new one.
what are you moving from and to?
(^ as not all migrations are possible depending on hardware)
cheap cc2531 to zzh
can u give me the full path?
there is a .storage folder in the HA config folder.
the file is in there.
be very careful and back it up
as HA won't start if there are any errors in it
where the configuration.yaml is? there is no folder called .storage
and for the stick migration follow this https://github.com/zigpy/zigpy-znp/blob/dev/TOOLS.md#backup-and-restore
it's hidden
omg im dumb, thanks
just do cd .storage
i can see it now with ls -la
do the stick migration part first
ok
what is zzh?
cool. is it better than CC2531?
exponentially
in terms of coverage or speed?
Yes, to both
CC2531 is the generation before the last one, in technical terms it's slow, busted, and ancient
if I only had stock 😭
i think i should get that then
CC2538 is the last generation, it's not bad
CC2652 is the current generation, it's hard to get a hold of, but awesome
do i need to change anything else except the path?
make sure radio type is znp
got this from hardware info
and baud 115200 I thnk.
so where to buy the CC2652R Stick? any recommendations?

ah ok. I just tried to reply your msg
Sure, but turn off the f*ing ping

If only you were tagged in those bot messages...
That stick looks like it's right, but
My German is ... non-existent
is it still pinging?
don't speak german either. so might have to import and test. £50 worth
Or... https://www.tindie.com/products/electrolama/zzh-cc2652r-multiprotocol-rf-stick/ and buy from inside the UK
i bought that from ^, took about 1 week to germany
I bought two, both were delivered very quickly, but I'm in the UK too 😄
mine arrived today 😄
never bought from tindie.com before. if you got it then its trustworthy i guess.
Tindie are just like EBay - they're not really the seller
tindie is just a market place for independent sellers
i changed the path (rebooted twice), there are no errors anymore but my devices seems to be offline
do i need a debug adapter kit?
did you migrate the stick config to the new one?
Nope
It's annoying to see the price in USD.
But I ordered 😄 really excited. Hopefully this will pick up my Garden door sensor
no i just did this:
To get ZHA to utilize your new radio, make sure to change the coordiantor's path in /config/.storage/core.config_entries.
im in bash now (python commands are working here).
so now i need the other config (copied to windows for backup)
and do this python -m zigpy_znp.tools.network_backup /dev/serial/by-id/old_radio -o network_backup.json on that core.config_entries?
^ @austere patio
He's the man who can help with that, he wrote it
he should see that so no need to tag him further.
i think from this point it would be easier for me to repair my devices xD
he's always looking for testers, but if you don't want to wait go for it.
Hey, I think I need help from you guys! atm i am setting up my zigbee network with zigbee2mqtt after just having switched to an CC2652R. tried to add my IKEA FYRTUR blinders, they show up as a device, but not as an entity, so I can't add them easily to lovelace. only their related functions show up as entities (battery, position etc.). I can control them via zigbee2mqtt dashboard, so they are working. I tried restarting HA and zigbee2mqtt, still doesn't show up. Any ideas?
If it shows as a device, the device should have entities associated with it
only the sensors of that device show up as entities
if i recall right, there was an additional "cover.devicename" entity
before i switched to the new zigbee stick
i tried readding it, doesn't work neither
Try removing it then re-pairing it
Doesn't work sadly
I removed the device, every old automation linked to it, force removed in zigbee2mqtt, restarted, repaired, restarted. still only the sensors showing up
every other device / entity works as before, only the blinders don't show up for some reason
okay, i fixed it by manually adding via configuration.yaml as outlined in the zigbee2mqtt documentation for the device
still weird it wasn't discovered automatically
Anyone else have issues pairing IKEA bulbs with ZHA?
I had them working but after a redo of the network they won't pair
All at the same time so not broken
Crap... you just said something that made me wonder... when you re-did the mesh, did you use the same channel that you were on before?
I guess so yes?
Didnt change a thing in HA
Ooooooo
You got the solution?
I'm running through my house re pairing stuff
IKEA remain...
Well... crap. No. I was hoping that if you had changed the channel, that would have been the cause. Ikea devices typically only like channels 11, 15, 20, and 25. If you didn't change the channel, then most likely you're on 11 already.
Yes
As for checking, I think you can only do that through a bellows command.
BUT, I don't use ZHA, so I'm not 100% versed on how it works now.
Ok hit me
https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/QYnmKFwBfc/ You'll need to make some changes to account for using the Sonoff bridge.
oof
Yeah
as for device.... mmmm
Now, there is one other solution since you are re-pairing devices anyhow and that would be to switch over to Z2M. You'll need to have (or setup) a MQTT server with it.
Hi all, has anybody tried the "iluminize actuators" https://zigbee.blakadder.com/iluminize_511.202.html I installed few and paired them successfully but I've got one that does not connect anymore. does anybody know if the only way to get it to connect again is disconnecting from the main or disassemble the wall switch to get to the prog button?
i formatted the tasmota bridge so it could well HA somehow decided to treat is as a new device and changed channel
and go full mqtt language?
or is there some auto discovery
now it plug and play and already got my hands full lol
https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/ Auto-discovery via MQTT.
It's actually pretty plug and play already.
Wise choice :)
i dont know lol
its just what i started with hehe
as for channel select/find
i got a HA > prompt
it doesnt take any command. its all custom stuff
@forest cobalt suddenly. After removing all and do 1 by one just near the bridge they pair instantly
Mesh complete!
thx for the help!
I am trying to flash a zzh CC2652R using FLASH-PROGRAMMER-2 but it crashes right after I hit the start button
crashes right after initiate access to com
fixed it by unplugging evything but kmb/mouse
guys id like to pickup a few aquara pir and door sensors and pair them with my zigbee stick. i see there is a few different kinds, will they all work?
@forest cobalt noooooo. after fully redoing the mesh and after multiple reboots inbetween, my final reboot does:
https://pastebin.com/EuMBdB0i
Hmmm... That's... weird. I don't know if I can help with that 😦
ahh fck me. i just had it up and running
ok a full VM reboot did it
so talking about stability. what is the creme de la creme usb dongle for ZHA?
or any device for that matter?
No worries, you can only get the old kind unless you're in China
Something with a CC2652 or CC1352 chip in it seems to be the most recommended
I have a Tuya Temp/Humidity sensor (the newer style: https://expo.tuya.com/product/367161), which is obviously a 'SED' device.
Is there an easy way to control the polling interval? If it's not available in stock HA, would zigbee2mqtt provide the ability? I don't mind the battery drain, but updates only come every 10 mins.
Z2M won't change how often a sensor reports. They report only infrequent or significant changes deliberately to conserve battery
I can confirm this device doesn't care about the significance of the change; it only sends updates once every 10 minutes, unless I press the button on it which I guess wakes it up.
Then you're outta luck.
The Aqara sensors are better. They report 'big' changes (I think half degree/percent).
Sigh. I hate that we're always locked into vendor configs.
Do the measurement and I'll tell you when I want to know about it.
Of course you're locked in. It's programmed into the chip on the device. Battery-powered sensors are always going to be limited in some way.
How do you tell something if it sleeps most of the time to save battery?
Sure I'm not expecting it to be live, but at least have some sort of writeable config that allows end-users to change the frequency.
In any case, I will look into the Aqara. Thanks for the info. I'm mostly looking to report humidity.
Just to give you an idea of what you can expect, this is an Aqara humidity and temp sensor in my bathroom. The spike was a shower. https://i.imgur.com/FPceOV4.png
That's precisely what I'm looking to measure.
Do those devices absolutely require their own hub, or can it connect to the zigbee dongle in HA?
Hubs? What kind of monsters do you take us for? I'm using the zzh! stick inserted directly into my HA host.
Hah. The Amazon listing states in all caps that it requires their hub; when I did a search on integrating Aqara, all I saw were mentions of cloud integration.
They'll all try to convince you that you require their stuff. Zigbee is a standard (if a little flaky at some times, thanks to lax implementations by various vendors).
Check the pins and topic here for lists of supported devices. Even things that aren't reported as compatible can often be made to work.
Thanks. Moving from SmartThings and trying to play with some other devices I had gotten but never could get working well in ST. Was hoping it would have been better in HA, but this particular one seems to be a device roadblock, as you mentioned.
Yeah, if the device is limiting you, throw out the device.
Are there any tangible benefits to Zigbee2MQTT if I'm not using MQTT (since I am trying to avoid disparate platforms)? The ZWave2MQTT is useful because it allows sending raw commands that the database doesn't have set up yet; wasn't sure if there were any similar advantages.
I can't compare to Z-Wave but it basically comes down to whether you want to use ZHA and get updates for 'free' when HA updates or Z2M to keep things decoupled so you can update/manage both independently. ]
They support roughly the same stuff.
From a stability perspective, I've been really impressed with ZHA since switching from Z2M. 4 months without the slightest glitch, even with a couple of power outages. This was not my experience with Z2M where unicorns descended fairly often.
Will the "Min rep change" setting in Zigbee2MQTT not do the trick? Does that not change how often the sensor itself reports?
It seems to work as advertised on my battery powered Sonoff stuff at least
Ah, you'd think something like that would be mentioned in the documentation
Well, battery powered sensors generally report when they feel like it
Zigbee as a standard too is pretty loose, and even more loosely followed - Sonoff and Tuya are some of the worst offenders for doing what they want
Yeah, though I've been really happy with the Sonoff SNZB-02 sensor, respects the min change setting so it's not wasting battery reporting 0.5% change in humidity and the like
Thanks for getting me to the right z2m addon. I did find out there is a way to extend the converter. By adding a .js into the z2m config directory and then pointing to in the z2m configuration yaml. Here is a link to what I was told and it did work. #793714767008759852 message
Hello All, Every 10-12 hours, My zigbee device lost connection and after power cycling it, it come online without any issues
Any zigbee expert who can check my logs and help me to find the root cause ?
No certified experts here, would help to know what integration and which coordinator

Remove the device from zha then try again. Zha thinks the device is initialized and doesn't do anything for it
Has anyone updated to Home Assistant OS 6 using ZHA? I just did and my entire Zigbee network is busted. I've tried restarting Home Assistant, restarting the host, restarting Supervisor, disconnecting and reconnecting my Zigbee stick and nothing will bring it back online
This message just keeps repeating in my logs:
Okay so I think it'd because my /dev/ttyX when the OS rebooted, so it's trying to load a Zigbee protocol from my Z-Wave stick
Does anyone know how to change the dev path of ZHA? I can't find where the actual config data is stored
It's stored in .storage/core.config_entries file along with some other configuration. Make a copy, as it is easy to break it with incorrect edit.
Perfect, thanks! Hopefully this brings it back online lol
Z2M Device Map, just noticed some items have the Zigbee Alliance icon, which is new. What does that represent?
those are default images for devices that haven't got one yet
ahh cool, strange as they do have images (ikea plugs) but maybe my map just didn't load them or something
aside from that, my mesh looks ok?
looks meshy
heh
I have a problem with the new core that my covers / blinds don't work anymore
Host and supervisor also updates so rollback is not possible anymore
Error starts with: 2021-06-11 21:43:06 ERROR (MainThread) [homeassistant.util.logging] Exception in async_discover when dispatching 'mqtt_discovery_new_cover_mqtt':

Does anyone use hue products directly without the hue bridge or do y'all prefer to use the hue bridge? I have some hue bulbs and they have worked fine with my zigbee stick but i am getting more hue items and wonder if getting the bridge would unlock any more functionality.
@dusk thistle Hey i actually use both lol
its pretty much the same tbh
i have a hue bridge for devices that i cant control with my zigbee stick. other than that its pretty much the same
used hue bridge are kinda cheap so dont get a new one lol
Nice! Yeah ive seen a few used ones for like 30 dollars. What devices didn't work with your zigbee stick?
Im planning on getting the hue bars, the table lamp, and some strips
@dusk thistle i have a hue play smart bar kit
i dont think its zigbee so yeah... if ur getting those, get a hub
Just priced that tv backlighting from them, wow... $$$$
I finally got around to trying to debug an Error calling listener: Data is too short to contain 4 bytes message I keep getting from ZHA/zigpy. Looks like it happens right after my LEDVANCE bulbs query for a firmware update. Anyone seen anything simillar?
I've encountered an issue with ZHA (Conbee II) and the Xiaomi temperature sensors. I have two in use right now but my third one just refuses to join/show up. Does anyone know how I can debug this? I've already looked at the logs for ZHA but it doesn't show up there either
(Same goes for my door/window sensors too, two show up and work perfectly, one just doesn't)
Those are Zigbee. I have 4 of them connected directly to Z2M. No issues at all. BUT... you have to make sure to delete them from the Hue hub using the Hue app (basically the easiest way to reset them) before connecting them to your Zigbee coordinator.
Oh i didnt know. Thanks 👍
Wish to thank @sour shadow and @muted nest for recommending the CC2652R. It is awesome and was very easy to flash and successfully replaced my CC2531. The question is if there is an easy way to turn my CC2531 into a router to increase the coverage? Thank you
you can reflash your cc2531 with the router firmware
using the same software I used to flash the CC2652R?
thanks 🙏
You can also flash it with a NodeMCU or D1 mini if you don't have a debugger
wth are these? lol
Nevermind then

Hello all
Does anyone have hardware recommendations for "smart speaker" / "smart siren"?
I'd like to "chime" / "alert" / "prompt" audibly. The option to have flashing lights is nice, but not a need to have.
The best product I have been able to find on my own is DEVELCO: SIRZB-110 (https://www.develcoproducts.com/products/sensors-and-alarms/smart-siren/)
If anyone has a product that works good for them, would love to hear about it!
Hi, sorry I am asking a bit of a basic quesiton. I have a CC2531 zigbee coordinator flashed with zigbee2mqtt.
For me it is unclear do I need to install both Mosquitto and ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT? Or do I only need to install one of them?
Sorry if this is very basic. Just keen to get started and strugglign a bit ot understand what each of these tools is doing and hence how many of them I need.
Its either ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT with mqtt broker
Hello. I am very new to zigbee. I was wondering what I need to be able to use it. I self host home assistant in a docker container and would like to add a few temp and humidity sensors to my arsenal
A stick, look at pinned messages
Here's a list https://zigbee.blakadder.com/coordinators
@violet dagger Sorry given my CC2531 is flashed with zigbee2mqtt does that mean I must use Zigbee2MQTT or can I choose between the two of them?
and when you say 'with mqtt broker' is that what by CC2531 stick is or or this a separate software thing in home assistant?
(thank you so much for your help)
@keen flume posted a code wall, it is moved here --> https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/x8Mn4tJC2H/
based on the last two lines I think that means mqtt broker is working just fine is that right?
I get an error 'Failed to connect' when trying to then run the ZHA integration. I tried both using the legacy and non-legacy. Any suggestions?
I moved a few lights, renamed them in deCONZ and then renamed the entities in HA to match.. now I get "2021-06-12 22:43:54 ERROR (MainThread) [homeassistant.components.light] Platform deconz does not generate unique IDs. ID 90:fd:9f:ff:fe:19:4d:c7-01 already exists - ignoring light.ytterdorr_mitten" I can't see any duplicates... how do I solve this?
oh.. wait... i think i remember.. this is due to the garbage way that HA handles entities right.. you have to dig in the entity registry or something
I'm using that one
there are a few considerations to make
what are you planning on plugging it into?
Home server running proxmox
Ok so
Home assistant is in a docker container.
the Conbee sticks are pretty good.. you can integrate either via deCONZ running on the stick or ZHA (haven't tried this)
as long as you expose the usb that it is connected to you are fine runnign that in docker
the tricky bit about conbee
is that 1. it is very sensitive to bluetooth interference
and 2. it is purely compatible with USB2
Just had a quick look but it seems that is the only one I can get here in a reasonable amount of time.
so.. to solve 1. You want to get a usb extension cord.. get it away from the computer/server.. 2 meters is nice
and.. if you are plugging it into a USB3 capable port
make sure that extension cable is a USB2 cable
if not you can get weird results or unresponsive results
My seup I have a NUC running HA.. and a extension with the conbee on a USB2 cable running up taped to the back of my TV
well
it kinda depends a bit on the vendor in my experience
I preferr Zigbee to wifi.. cause of less congestion for my clients on wifi
but the base Zigbee can lose some of the clever vendor features, you just have to know how to get around it
for example.. many bulbs will not have the clever way to pair.. you'll use the basic zigbee way... this can at times be a pain in the ass cause you want proximity from light to stick
i solved this since i have a philips light switch.. which has a hold 2 buttons to reset the closest zigbee device..
Wonder how this would be
which has helped a few times when I've had to reset a bulb.. not having to move it to the stick just resetting it with the remote
no idea... appears to be a sniffer.. not an actual controller... no experience with that
zigbee is great for low power stuff though.. have several sensors that do very well battery wise
since they dont have to run wifi
Ahh ok.
so yeah it is good.. if ytou want things to be very comfy.. get the vendor (philips, ikea etc.) controllers and add them to HA..
I mainly want it for a few temperature sensors.
I like having all lamps in deconz tho
yeah
running Aquara sensors among other things
work great
But I still need the zigbee coordinator right? If I get the vendor controller?
and some PIR sensors and door sensors
nah i started out with a Philips hue pack.. had the Hue hub as a controller, you can integrate that into HA
just you can't add other vendors stuff
so I added Trådfri from IKEA.. got sick of runngin 2 hubs
so i got the ConBee and moved all my devices there and then could add a bunch of smaller vendor stuff as well
otherwise you need the hub from each ecosystem 🙂
But I can’t use the Philips hub with aquara sensors?
doubt it.. at least it wouldn't accept the IKEA lights
Aquara likely needs the Xiaomi hub
or aquara hub.. whichever it is
as long as that has a integration with HA you are fine
for me it was getting a conbee or getting a larger switch cause everything needed its own ethernet port 🙂
conbee or generic zigbee controllers(hubs) are good for mizing systems
though.. its a mess updating the firmwares on board
Id rather try and buy the best zigbee coordinator available.
Do you really need firmware updates?
can update my IKEA lamps ok with some command line stuff
the Hues .. not so much they dont publish the firmwares
nah
I've like updated once in 3 years.. just cause there was some security issue a while back
Do you need the hue hub to do that?
if there is a major issue... buy a vendor hub, update and return it heh 🙂
Lol
yeah for philips you need to add them into it and update via the mobile app
which sucks
Will that mess up your configuration?
yep
Ok
need to re-add it back to the conbee after then
guess that is a benefit of wifi? dont have any wifi devices
you doing temp inside or outside?
I want to do one of each
Well. At least 1 inside.
1 outside.
Will be interesting to see the difference.
Printed one of these for my Aquara temp sensor, can recommend it since it isn't exactly weatherproof
It will be undercover outside. I should get a 3d printer lol
you still kinda want to get it away from the wall or such.. so make a standoff for it if possible.. so you get a accurate reading
Is that less important for inside?
but yeah.. if you just want zigbee for your sensors.. aquara hub should be ok as well i think. and probably easier.. go conbee if you want to add stuff from other vendors
not really as long as you dont have it around a window or above a radiator etc.
I see
hi, i am looking for a diy zigbee bridge via lan and with low power consumption.
i want to transfer the zigbee signals to another building
may i patch/hack the tradfree hub for this?
normally i use zigbee2mqtt with an sniffer stick.
maybe there is a cheep "remote usb port via lan" project or sth.
I'd guess you'll probably end up with a RPi with a zigbee usb
not much experience of what' your looking for though
i think too, that it will end such way.
but it could be possible that someone already build sth with a cheap zb module an an wemos or so.
just a few wires and an tasmota device with mqtt output and input and deepsleep i.e.
Hi Guys, I'm looking for a hero to save me from more hours of frustration. My aim to a CC2531 zigbee adapter which is already flashed as a coordinator up and running in Home Assistant. My understanding is that the first thing I need is to install Mosquitto broker which I have done. Then I should go to configuration - intergration and click configure on MQTT. But here I get a failed to connect error. Any suggestions, can someone please guide on this - I really appreciate it.
My tube's CC2652P2 coordinator arrive this week 🙂 I have been reading the docs to find out how to migrate the ZHA setup from my tasmotised sonoff bridge to the tube one. I see the config in core.config_entries and in zha.storage. Do I also need to do the zigpy_znp.tools.network_backup and restore commands or does it pull info from zha.storage?
all the advice I have read so far mentioned the backup and restore being used for USB devices.
How many devices do you have? You could take the opportunity to set up Z2MQTT instead of ZHA.
not many at all. I am still a basic user so ZHA is working just fine for me and I have hit no limitations yet. I'm only interested in HA having access to the devices as well.
Ok, the main advantage of z2mqtt is that your network doesn't go down when you restart HA. As I don't use ZHA I cant help with your question, sorry.
ah right, thanks for the info 🙂 I kinda thought that the network wouldn't go down with a wireless or eth based coordinator either even if using zha?
@vivid shore I can update my hue bulbs with Z2M through the frontend
@sinful swift @graceful notch : Hi, I'm really struggling to understand the core building blocks here. I have a CC2531 coordinater and I want to get it working with Home Assistant. The aim is to have ikea and hue bulbs being controlled by it.
In Home Assistant I can see many different components being involved. There are:
- 'Misquitto Broker' (accessed within Supervisor in the UI)
- 'MQTT' (in the intergration section of the UI)
- 'ZHA' or zigbee2mqtt (in the intergrations section of the UI)
Do I need to have all three of the components listed above or do they overlap in functionality. Any help is greatly appreciated.
well you're probably using hassio (the homeassistant with addons-feauture), I'm also not an expert but I have the following:
EMQX Broker (similar to Mosquitto) -> the broker receives/sends MQTT messages.
Then I use MQTT in homeassistant to connect to the broker.
Then I use Z2M so it receives mqtt messages over the zigbee protocol
You dont need the Mosquitto MQTT broker or integration if you use ZHA.
apparently zha combines a bit of all these things together
Thank you both for your help I really apprecaite it.
@sinful swift Does ZHA replace both (1) and (2) from my list above?
Yes
Okay, so I should just uninstall the others and then just try ZHA on its own and hopefully I'm golden?
zha is a small stack, that has all these things combined
Ah, right.
What others?
Misquitto Broker and MQTT
I think @keen flume means the broker and mqtt and Z2M (adapted to comply with current age gender 😄 )
🙂
You only need an MQTT broker and integration if you want to use Zigbee2MQTT. If you use ZHA that's all you need no MQTT.
Sorry I missed the 'or' in the last part of you question.
Thanks so much for your help. I'm just unintalling the other add-ons and going to try only ZHA and see how it goes. Thank you so much both of you.
for beginners zha is the easier solution
for those who like to fiddle with things, they do the other stuff 🙂
Yeah, I am at the very beginning so defintely keen to keep it it simple.
Yep. If you have plenty of zigbee devices controlling each other directly (e.g. switches -> lights) then Z2mqtt makes sense. As you can still control your lights when HA is down.
I never tried zha actually, I went immediately the more advanced route.
but that's how I implement it in my head
Otherwise ZHA is a good way to go.
yeah, that's a little nifty feauture I discovered a couple days ago @sinful swift 😄
I was surprised to see my remote connected to my hue bulb 😄
brb
I had tonnes of wifi smart bulbs before getting into zigbee so haven't gone down that route yet. Still went for z2mqtt.
I'm pretty happy with what I got and how it works, just need to complete moving everything over to hass instead of the hue bridge and configure the flows
Think this Would work with a conbee stick?
that's what I got
I haven't had to update, but the feature is there and it has no updates atm
since I updated everything with the hue bridge
The stick itself doesn't matter for that
I really like the frontend of Z2M for those things
only thing I still want now, is a backup of the stick through Z2M
instead of doing tricks with deconz
I mean. I can update as a feature in the deconz UI as well. The issue is that the firmware isn’t public so I can’t get the files.
what firmware is your bulb on @vivid shore ?
mine is at 1.76.10
and the ones on the hue bridge are also that version
Hm. I got. ModelHue Spot GU10
Version 5.130.1.30000. ModelHue LightStrip Plus
Version 1.50.2_r30933. ModelLWB010
Version 1.50.2_r30933
Sorry for the formatting. On phone
hm
so
should be a update to 1.65.11_hB798F2BF for my GU10 bulb that is on the 5.1 version (weird numbering) according to https://www.philips-hue.com/en-us/support/release-notes/lamps
or not... bt capable
i believe you also should be on 1.76.x
seems like i managed to trigger a OTA update in the deconz vnc ui... thouvh that method is terrible
had no idea i succeeded
"Software version: 1.76.3, 1.76.6, 1.76.10 and 1.76.11
Available for all Philips Hue Bluetooth-capable lights and the Philips Hue smart plug," doesn't sound like it
what is the method with Z2M?
can it be automated?
i only know how to manually do it through the frontend
You can almost certainly automate it if you really want to
but it should be doable in cli and so be able to automate it
doesn't the device send a update_available in their payload ?
There's sensors in HA, and Z2M uses MQTT, so ... just a little work
i'm on my tablet and outside with crappy wifi, so can't verify
cause that would be something that might make the pain of having to re-add 16 lights heh
If the firmware is already updated, it's updated already
euhhh updating doesn't equal to repairing
welll moving the integration from deconz does
That sounds ... like you have something else going on
Seriously, that's like saying taking your phone to a new house reverts all the OS upgrades you've done on it
HA just kept all the ids from all the bulbs when you removed the deconz integration and went to z2m?
but i fiddled so much at that time, i don't know what i actually did 😄
i added mqtt and then disabled deconz
ID != firmware version
Ofc.. I was under the impression you had to rebuild your zigbee network in the new integration if you changed from deconz to ZHA or Z2M or such
You're mixing up a bunch of things here
There's the entity_id (which is purely an HA thing)
There's the firmware the devices run
There's the mesh itself
and probably more things
If you move between integrations then the new integration doesn't know about your current mesh, so you have to re-pair so that it knows
this is for the firmware_version of the devices: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/information/ota_updates.html
How am I mixing thigs up? .. I use deconz... I can't get OTA updates... to get OTA updates I'd have to move to Z2M, that would mean i have to re-pair....no?
and the firmware is checked on specific intervals (default: 1day)
sounds like it already is automated
and you can check in the logs if the firmware was made available by for example philips
Philips Hue devices (not every firmware is made available by them, in case not you will see the following exception in the log No image available for ...)
I am about to switch from ZHA to Z2M. Will I need to re-pair every device or is there a better way?
Yes you will
@solid inlet When using Discord's new Reply feature it defaults to pinging the person you reply to, which can get frustrating for the target. Click @ ON to @ OFF to stop this - on the right side of the compose bar.
There's no way (for now anyway) to move the state of a mesh between ZHA and Z2M
Maybe one day somebody will write a converter
Yeah, probably not that often one switches between integrations like that, but would be handy... 🙂
does Z2M support creating Zigbee groups?
yes (haven't used it though)
what I like about deconz as well is that i dont have to use HA groups
so that's good
only thing seems like i'd have to rebuild in HA is that I have deconz control my light directly at the moment and that'd have to move as I've read so far
Sorry to bother you guys. Trying to get ZHA up and running. I have an issue in my log I get the following:
2021-06-13 12:10:59 ERROR (MainThread) [homeassistant.config_entries] Error setting up entry configuration.yaml for mqtt
What does this really mean, what is needed to fix this?
MQTT is no longer set up in the configuration.yaml file and MQTT is not needed if you are setting up ZHA.
Thank you kind sir, removing it now and will see if that helps - thank you.
hm.. while Z2M does seem interesting.. support for the conbee II is listed as experimental.. dont' really want to introduce that to my setup so I might try it out with one of the recommended devices
I have issues with: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zha - it does not find my IKEA bulbs.I've tried several times, over the past few days. I reset by turning off/on 6 times (till they pulse & blink) and also with Phillips Hue Remote and also the IKEA remote. I can reset them, they will blink, but I cannot find them in ZHA. I can pair them to my IKEA hub via the APP without issues. They have been paired before, but they lost the pair, after I setup deCONZ (which I have uninstalled, and reverted to old snapshot, but still they are not connected). After resetting my Phillips Hue Bulbs they could be paired just fine with ZHA, and they even reverted back to their original rooms and can be controlled. Only IKEA bulbs are not responsive in this process... What can I do?
The Conbee II mostly works with ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT, but ... not always
This is my log: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/82vX95JgsN/
This sounds like exactly the thing that'd test my girlfriends patience with me 😉
I use Conbee II with my ZHA integration y the way, and it worked without issues, prior to this incident though
What was the consequence of the problem? ... just that something wasn't doing exactly what it should ... or things completely breaking?
I also tried adding them all to IKEA HUB and then clicking Remove to have the IKEA do the 'unpair' - still cannot be found in ZHA
ugh..
There seems to be a lot of people who use the ConBee sticks with ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT who post here with random issues that make no sense
There's similar challenges with the RaspBee boards
Yeah likely gonna look at getting one of the recommended sticks
problem is one ships from outside EU.. so taxes there which sucks...
the other from germany... but seems to be a very unreliable seller according to https://community.home-assistant.io/t/do-not-buy-slaeshs-zigbee-stick/290000/42
The insane Swedish customs add a 8 euro fee for processing a imported package which boosts the price quite a bit
8euro is still low for customs 🙂
try living in belgium, 25EUR processing fee + 21% VAT
especially if it only costs 30EUR it's insane, I'd suggest searching on amazon, they have all taxes and import included in the price
Hi guys! which home alarm speaker do you recommend that would be easily integrated with zha? (As you guessed it, it is for my home alarm 🚨 )
probably depends on its purpose and your living situation. like is it only for alarming you when your home? or should it also alarm your neighbors when your not there?
you live in a house? or in a apartment complex?
@sinful swift : When I updated my config file, rebooted and tried again, I then got the following errors:
at: No response to AP command
14:16:00 – (WARNING) /usr/local/lib/python3.8/site-packages/zigpy_xbee/api.py
Error doing job: Exception in callback Gateway.connection_made(SerialTranspo...dsrdtr=False)))
14:15:31 – (ERROR) /usr/src/homeassistant/homeassistant/runner.py
Any tips/suggestions?
(it said 'failed to connect' when I tried to setup the ZHA integration)
As I said earlier, I don't use ZHA I use Zigbee2MQTT so I'll let someone who knows more about ZHA help you.
@sinful swift: Okay, thanks for all your help (ment seriously, I apprecaite it). Anyone else have any suggestions please?
solution: take the IKEA bulb right next to the cigbee stick, and it would pair.. hurray!
Damn.. that sucks.. thought it was unique to Sweden.. so annoying as ordering cheap components from china is like 1 euro for the thing and 8 euro fees. 25 sounds bad though..
good to see you solved it.. usually it is either move the bulb closer to the stick or move the stick further away from any interference source
I ordered a bunch of aqara sensors before 1july where they'll implement taxes and import for every package (untill then it was tax and importfree below +-23EUR)
I'm good for the next year(s) I think
🙂
@keen flume posted a code wall, it is moved here --> https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/RkFXwpnpJF/
Hi, I'm now attempting to use Zigbee2MQTT instead of ZHA. I have followed this pretty good video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uxRvbbd0fc
I have setup a username updated the config file etc. I think things look okay, but I think I am struggling to put the correct value for the port in the config file for Zigbee2mqtt.
Right now I have the following:
"...
serial:
port: >-
/dev/serial/by-id/usb-Texas_Instruments_TI_CC2531_USB_CDC___0X00124B000BE894BC-if00
..."
Does this look okay or am I doing something wrong?
I am getting the following error in the logs:
Zigbee2MQTT:error 2021-06-13 15:49:03: Error while starting zigbee-herdsman
Zigbee2MQTT:error 2021-06-13 15:49:03: Failed to start zigbee
Any thoughts or hints as to what I might be doing wrong?
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
I nearly blew my brains out trying to get it running when it crashed a few weeks ago. The guys here got to listen to me go insane. All it needed was a little reboot love
Thanks both of you for the advice. I have used the suggestion from Tinker and updated by config to:
/dev/ttyACM0
It could also be a problem down to following a video and not the docs
However when I restart the add-on that hasn't helped, the same error occurs.
Add-on... well, that matters 😉
I will also try restarting the whole thing.
Check the Supervisor sees the stick and reports it
When I look in Supervisor and hardware I can see it:
DEVNAME: /dev/ttyACM0

But I still get the same error in the log.
Any other suggestions, sorry for flooding this channel but really keen to get it up and running.
Should I try a different usb port or something? (I'm running it on a raspberry pi3)
It's seen by the Supervisor, that points to an issue with it not being passed to the add-on
You did fully remove ZHA and restart?
Maybe you even need to reboot
I uninstalled ZHA, is that sufficent to remove it or is there something else that is needed?
(thanks for your help)
Should be enough, but I'd expect you need to restart if not reboot
I have restarted, but will do a reboot just to be sure.
I tried the link and put the following in the config:
serial:
port: >-
/dev/serial/by-id/usb-Texas_Instruments_TI-CC2531_USB-CDC___0X00124B000BE894BC-if00
But I still get the same error.
From what you posted, it looks like the Supervisor is only seeing /dev/ttyACM0
From the documentation it seemed to be I can either list just the port e.g. /dv/ttyACM0 or you can do it more precisely by specifying the serial number.
If that's seen by the host
I get the same error regardless of which I use in the config file.
You have to use the path(s) seen by the host, in your case you posted that it only sees /dev/ttyACM0
When you say seen by the host. I put this into terminal to determine what I should use:
pi@raspberry:/ $ ls -l /dev/serial/by-id
ummmm, are you really running the Z2M add-on then?
(thank you for the help)
Ah but sorry I was really just running:
ls -l /dev/serial/by-id
From the terminal add-on in Home Assistant.
Is that the same computer running Zigbee2MQTT?
Yes
How did you install HA?
I flashed my SD card with HAOS at the start of this so I am using HAOS.
Then when you use SSH you are in another container
That's not the host running HA, that's a container inside the host
Ah okay, I see.
The Supervisor is the only thing to trust when it comes to hardware paths
So the documentation I was looking at was not Home Assistant specific and hence can't be followed.
Well, in this case, no
Or at least, it's a lot harder to follow, and you need more skills
Did you reboot the whole computer yet?
I rebooted from the terminal tab in Home Assistant.
So I no.
Here is my full hardware dump from Supervisor could you please verify the path I should be using please?
Just to make sure I am getting this right.
Good old pastebin.pl, down again (or maybe it's only accessible from some countries)
Please use https://paste.ubuntu.com/ to share code or logs. Please don't use Pastebin, since it can randomly add spaces to the main view.
Line 1079
/dev/serial/by-id/usb-Texas_Instruments_TI_CC2531_USB_CDC___0X00124B000BE894BC-if00
That path should work - at least if the stick is flashed with (current) Zigbee firmware
I bought it from some guy that flashed it for me. I did get this working some time ago (but I don't know what firmware version it is on)
That path is what I have been using, but in order to restart the whole thing and not just the container should I just pull the plug or?
Supervisor menu -> reboot host (somewhere in there)
Doing it now (thank you so much for your help)
Now I don't see to be able to access the home Assistant UI. Should I pull the power and plug it back in, that is how I normally resolve it when it doesn't boot back up.
Well, that's a really bad idea - fantastic way of getting data corruption
If it keeps happening then #330990055533576204 can help you
Sorry, it has now booted back now.
Maybe I'm just always too impatient
I still get the same error.
I guess I should try to install MQTTExplorer and establish what firmware I have one the device perahps?
No idea then, maybe #add-ons-archived or #330990055533576204 can help you find out why the add-on isn't able to reach the stick
Could you just check my error log to make sure I'm not missing something obviousL:
https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/7frRSF6p34/
(please)
Error: AREQ - ZDO - activeEpRsp after 10000ms
That's one thing to Google
Error: No such file or directory, cannot open /dev/serial/by-id/usb-Texas_Instruments_TI_CC2531_USB_CDC___0X00124B000BE894BC-if00
🤔
Well, you know, maybe that's a problem... just maybe 😄
I'd also try again with /dev/ttyACM0 and see if you get different errors
Flashing the most current firmware isn't a bad idea
THanks for the help, I really apprecaite it.
Looks like a need to by the debugger cable thing and try flashing.
There are other options too ... https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/information/alternative_flashing_methods.html
But, planning on replacing the stick with something CC2652 based is a good plan
I upgraded my firmware by using deconz on the conbee2 stick
and then I ditched it 😄
It also failed to work decently
😄
The guy I bought it from will reflash it for me. I will start there, thanks for all the help.
If you're going to keep it, just buy a flashing kit
The documentation on supported adapters is a bit confusing
In what way?
So they recommend 2 adapters based on the CC2652R chip
Yes?
digging around for differences between this and the -P version
P has a built in amp
seems to be that the P version supports higher antenna boost
"Adapters that can handle large networks are; adapters using the following chips CC2652R, CC2652RB, CC1352P, CC2538 and the Conbee II." so the CC2652P can't handle large networks?
ok, was trying to figure out why it wasn't recommended for large networks
then i can scratch that off my list
The docs can't ever cover every possible new thing 😄
yeah
P version gives me a few other options for ordering
Chris.DC you still around?
Does anyone have Aideepen Zigbee CC2531 USB adapter
Well, lots of folks have the CC2531 based sticks of one type or another... they're all pretty terrible 😄
I just wanted to try some zigbee motion sensors thats all
The CC2531 and CC2530 sticks are cheap for a reason. They're fine for testing, but do yourself a favour and buy something better.
For testing in the same room, or the next room (assuming those aren't stone internal walls) then it'll be fine
do you recomend anything in the UK
Ships from london
That being still in the UK 😛
Generally the Tuya and Sonoff stuff is even more lax with standards than Xiaomi are, and that's saying something
pfft.. being lax with standards without mentioning IKEA?
Im getting it sent back
It's all relative... and complying with Zigbee standards is the exception 😄
heh.. you can't even set the IKEA bulb back to the proper white setting without the IKEA hub since it uses some kinda shady non-standard command
Is it that circle remote thing
hm? no the plain e27 bulb
regarding zigbee2mqtt.. with a conbee, am i wrong that you could just try starting the network up with this without messing up your deconz? to see if it works
Sure you can, but Z2M won't know about the devices
Just ensure that deCONZ is stopped first, and read the Z2M docs about that stick
have a bulb or 2 lying around that aren't part of my network that I could test it with.. just dont want to do anyting that i cant revert
Well, if you pair anything with that stick, I don't know if that'll screw up your current mesh
Why not buy a CC2531 for testing with?
They're $5 and can be turned into routers
true
considering just going for the italian stick in the zigbee2mqtt devices.. the serial 2 wifi bridge extra sounded nice.. that way i dont need the controller near the NUC
WiFi + Zigbee == pain
yeah... imo BT seems to be worse for it
I've been looking for smart power strips for a bit
All I can find is on 802.11 WiFi, any interesting ones with zigbee?
Well, the UK has some...
Probably doesn't help you if you're not in the UK though, but we don't know where you are...
Germany. But products tend to have local versions if they aren't one offs
Lidl do/did a multi-socket one
hm. Under the silvercrest brand. thx
should alarm when i am not home. and yes for a typical 2 storey british house
You can afford both storeys? 😮
You need to pass COM[some number] as the serial port path, not bak.core.config_entries. It talks directly to your radio
Thanks
Though you said you're using Windows, /usr/local/... shows up in the screenshot. Is this through the WSL subsystem? If so, then it won't work. WSL doesn't get access to serial ports. Looks like COM4 (for example) maps to /dev/ttyS4?
There's no official way to migrate between stacks (yet) so if you have only a few devices, it's easier to rejoin them
Thanks puddly, that leaves me a little confused. If I'm sticking with ZHA and you can migrate between USB zigbee sticks, is there no way to migrated between network connected zigbee coordinators? Or is the "stack" you refer EZSP > ZNP?
The latter. You can migrate between EZSP and EZSP, or ZNP and ZNP, but EZSP to/from ZNP is not as simple.
It's not difficult, just not as simple as installing a Python package and running two commands.
ah right-oh. Many thanks puddly. I do not have too many zigbee devices, I'll just record any info I have on them and start again. At least I know I'll be in a better place with a tube zigbee coordinator rather than the sonoff bridge 🙂
Has anyone successfully flashed and leveraged CC1352P-2 Launchpad with router firmware and successfully paired to a coordinator?
zzh! CC2652R Multiprotocol RF Stick is this just plug and play
it is not
how would i get home assistant to use it for zigbee then
Do you know how to make a CC2531 stick work
every zigbee integration has that documented
it says to set it up i just go into the integrations tab and add zigbee and the apdater should show up.
- Flash stick
- Configure integration with stick
how do you flash it
Well, which stick?
https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/information/supported_adapters.html has links to guides
What zigbee range does the CC2531 support
The CC2531 and CC2530 sticks are cheap for a reason. They're fine for testing, but do yourself a favour and buy something better.
Range:
- Is largely irrelevant, this is a mesh network
- Is influenced by the structure of your house
- Is improved with an antenna, and newer sticks
See also https://electrolama.com/radio-docs/advanced/ti-part-numbers/ for why the CC2531 is a bad choice for anything other than testing
but will it just work with 2 motion sensors
Size isn't everything you know 😉
That should get you 6 to 8 meters, depending on the construction of your house
It's still old, and slow though
i'm just getting into this
Then it's a good time to invest wisely and not just buy cheap, so you can buy again later
You can turn the other one into a fairly decent router
Mesh networks need routers, so it'd be a good plan
I have to pay £16.99 to get the flasher
unless you have the bits for one of the alternative methods
you can flash it with a nodemcu
Or a Pi
does it do it over usb
technically yes
The ZZH does - the guides explain how
can someone go on voice and explain how please
well if you do a google search - you would have already found out. 🙂 https://notenoughtech.com/home-automation/flashing-cc2531-without-cc-debugger/
good investment
one is enough for a house
mine is yet still sitting at some UK airport
so haven't looked very deep at it yet, but I'm gonna need a repeater for my signal, can I mix the Cxxxxx things with a conbee 2 stick ?
Yes
is the CC2530 still the most recommended (even though it doesn't have a nice enclosure by default)
i don't mind fiddling things together, but something that just needs to plug in, pair and use is more convenient 😄
Unless you have a few sitting around, I'd just buy more Zigbee devices
The CC2530 is ok, with an antenna, but it is limited to Zigbee 1.2
that's kind of the issue, it needs to extend 50m outside, link quality in the middle is okay-ish
That way you get some extra functionality (e.g. a bulb, a switchable outlet) and not just a bare PCB sticking out of a USB power supply
50 meters 😂
I'd look at something CC2652p based, so you can crank up the power
Does the router firmware let you? I thought they were locked down to the default
There's some firmware for that, yes
let me look up that device 🙂
It's a chipset, not a device, but see the pinned messages
top, will read that
Doesn't look like that's changed, the TX power is still fixed at below the maximum: https://github.com/Koenkk/Z-Stack-firmware/issues/273
Has anyone connected the e18-ms1-pcb (CC2530) to a SmartRF? Little more context. I used the SmartRF to flash my CC2531 USB dongle, so my z2m is working. I just wanted to play with these boards. I have so many variables, do I have the right pin connected, etc. What I am seeing, when I start the SmartRF Flash Programer, connected to the board ribbon (pin 1-GND, 3-clock{P2.2}, 4-data{P2.1}, 7-RST, 9-VCC) does not show up. When I look at the windows device manager, I do not see any unclaimed devices. Should I be seeing it at this point? From what I have read so far I don't see any pull up/down pins required for boot or programing like a ESP-01. Just curious.
there is a zip of one that has teh TX power up to 20
That's the one I was thinking of
some one has tested it on my routers
been moving around a few smart plugs, but should the sensor automatically connect to the nearby router or do I have to re-pair it ?
Depends on the sensor, and what it prefers
Xiaomi devices rarely change parent, other brands may change
so it'll be better to remove the sensor and re-pair it nearby the router
since it's xiaomi and it doesn't change 🙂
Always pair in place
gotcha
that did the trick indeed, somehow I wished it'd go automatically (but we can't have it all apparently) 😄
Most sensors will choose a new parent depending on LQI/RSSI/FIFO beacons... Xiaomi is... different (because reasons apparently)
The Xiaomi ones will too, under the right conditions
I've had a few of mine do that, but it's not common
now i have to see if the sensor will survive -18 (they're rated till -20 😄 )
and get another router in between too lqi fluctuates between 50 and 15 😄
LQI is way too subjective to accurately measure, tbh. Basically, if you have a sensor that is say >50' from a router and/or blocked by multiple walls, add one. BUT, don't add routers because you are just reacting to LQI. It fluctuates constantly based upon environmental changes (temp, humidity, other devices, sun spots, etc.
Case in point, I have a neighbor that has a HAM radio. Every time he broadcasts, my LQI values go wonky. When he stops, things go back to normal. Same thing during the winter... Really good LQI readings when the air temp is cooler and there is less humidity. During the summer, I know my signal quality is going to degrade. BUT... I have enough routers to compensate for that.
yeah there's a fridge wall, concrete wall and some metal studs in between
I'm actually surprised it works atm 😄
and I'm gonna grab 2 smart plugs, so i can (re)use them if needed 🙂
LQI is also last-hop for TI coordinators
So it's only telling you the signal strength between the last router the packet was relayed by and the coordinator
I checked using the network map within Z2M and signal strength between the coordinator, router and sensor is on average 40-70
Do the devices work?
If it works it works. I wouldn't worry about the raw numbers. That's what the firmware is for.
the router works fine (till now) the sensor I'm still curious, since it seems to report a long time nothing and then sends about 3 msgs
so I believe that's due to bad signal quality, as I normally don't see 3 mqtt messages with different values
What sensor is this?
xiaomo temperature
xiaomi*
it went from 30°C to -14°C but only sent about 7 messages over a timeframe of +1 hour
Hello everyone, can someone help me with this error:
Failed to save add-on configuration, Missing required option 'device' in deCONZ (core_deconz). Got {'device': None}
On installing deCONZ for a ConBee II
Thanks
Mine sent 33 in one hour during a rapid temperature change so that could very well be the case. How far away is the sensor from its parent router?
from the parent router, +-50m with about 2 concrete walls in between + some metal studs and a fridge door
You can reasonably expect 8 to 10 meters with a couple of non-concrete walls
but now I have 1 philips smart plug right in the middle of it
Even that's likely not enough, once it's routed through it anyway
so I was planning on adding 2 more plugs or routers
Permit joins through the bulb and re-join the sensor. It's likely not utilizing the new router at all.
it is, I re-paired
unless the network map is lying to me
somehow I can't post a picture of it here
So the parent of the Aqara sensor is your bulb, but it's also 50m away?
hang on
conbee2 coordinator -> hue smart plug -> xiaomi sensor
that's the path it follows
the smart plug is also linked with a dashed line to a hue lightbulb
the bee43 device is the xiaomi sensor
Its parent is the device below it
Nah, reset the sensor and join it to only the bulb
By default Z2M permits joins on all routers
the bulb is further away thazn the smart plug
Then you need another router in between the two 😆
that was what I was making out of it, but glad to know that it's confirmed now
there's probably no way of knowing what place would be the best to place the router, except trial and error ?
Probably closer to the sensor
