haha yes!
straight away, with or without indentation?
It won't matter, as long as they're all correct relative to each other.
Semantically this:
thing
is the same as this:
thing
YAML just throws a fit when you don't have things nested correctly.
here's my devices.yml https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/h9FdY7jPNG/
sweet
butchering the config to separate out devices and groups works. good times
im doing it too, right now!
Are you doing it in the other direction? XD
Is it dumb to ask how do i look at the logs? i tried with tails, but is that showing me them updated in real time?
docker logs -f zigbee2mqtt on the host should do the trick.
(one of the few times you'll run a Docker command, even though you're using Docker Compose)
sweet!
I am getting an error. This availabitly_blocklist entry was just a copy/paste from my Z2M addon to my new configuration.yml Should I delete it?
availability_blocklist:[]
this is my config https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/bz2myw6PtW/
well i deleted that and then it just went up 1 line with the error lol:
(node:17) UnhandledPromiseRejectionWarning: YAMLException: can not read a block mapping entry; a multiline key may not be an implicit key at line 30, column 11:

ohhhh. my indenting is straight up ass
yea fixed that!
Is there a way of knowing which version of zhaquirks is included with a given OS release? I have a device which is supported by the newest version of zhaquirks but i don't know when thst will make it into HA itself
I plugged my ZZH! into my NUC. I think it is ttyUSB0 https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/9XS75q7J37/ , but in the docs it always shows ttyACM0 https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/getting_started/running_zigbee2mqtt.html#1-determine-location-of-the-adapter-and-checking-user-permissions
Does that mean that it didnt' recognize the device and I need to get drivers?
Yeah, I did have issues where it looked like there was no proper connection.
Some people reported they need to put sticky tape over the cover
I just "stretched" the metal contact behind the battery
Seems to work fine now
I put ttyACM0 in both my configuration.yaml and my docker-compose.yml . I guess I could switch the name, and add it to Z2M by making it ttyUSB0 , but according to what I see online, that's the easy but wrong way; if i reboot the system, and I have multiple USB devices, there is no way to make sure what device will be assigned what ID or name.
Okay, I'm getting conflicting info. ttyUSB0 is definitely a no-go with Slaesh. Maybe okay with ZZh ? https://electrolama.com/radio-docs/zigbee2mqtt/
This is cool, but how do i get out of this? once i do that no commands work, and I have to quit out of putty
control-c
hell yea!
is there any way whatsoever to go from cc2531 to a zzh without repairing some how the devices?
the zzh i have no clue, ok so il check the cc2531 and then il setup the zzh accordingly?
some of my lights are no longer on physical switches haha
Anyone have ZHA with a Ikea motion sensor?
If your 2531 is running zb3 firmware today it can be done @fallow warren
If not, it is repair required
ok will check in sec
Does anyone have experience with conbee paired with zigbee2mqtt? I have a conbee II on the way but wondering what protocol is best to use with it.
I've been told phoscon/deconz isn't the best at its current moment.
@jolly narwhal Zigbee2MQTT:info 2021-04-02 11:43:48: Coordinator firmware version: '{"meta":{"maintrel":3,"majorrel":2,"minorrel":6,"product":0,"revision":20190619,"transportrev":2},"type":"zStack12"}' Zigbee2MQTT:info 2021-04-02 11:43:48: Currently 33 devices are joined:
😦
@fallow warren repair is at worst 1 minute per device though
repair as in re-pairing devices oor is there a repair function?
@jolly narwhal Are you using it in this combination?
No
I hear different stories so figured best to ask here
I see a lot of users with problems
one says it works fine others say its not great. I just question what the drawbacks are.
Would ZHA or Deconz be preffered over zigbee2mqtt?
Issue is, in the netherlands supply of other zigbee sticks is limited and if I want to buy e.g. a cc2652 like the zzh it would require ordering from the UK and the price would legit be 50% more due to customs and shipping
The zzh also has limited supply.
i just bought zzh to norway its not that much extra
We have tax on incoming goods in Norway too, the cc1352 was delivered from Texas in 3 days with no extra tax 🤣
Usually we do too
But seldom I do
I get 20 packages a month from AliExpress and other places
Recently Ali has started having the tax included though
Which is zzzz
hehe
other places????
ye i bought aqara sensors on ali. They show e.g. 6e a piece but once added to the cart and whatnot 6e turns into 10e
still cheap though
compared to 18e retail a piece locally
the poor USians need some commerce too i guess
would it work to upgrade the CC2531 to a new version?
Nope
My ZHA coordinator IP got changed. Can I update it somewhere in Home Assistant?
Oh yeah I can, behind "rename". That wasn't logical at all
HI checked this morning it has become unavailable again ?? This time i only have one zigbee network!!!! Also when i add back under the new name i used yesterday it flips states!
Hello - Im on Z2M
I have some Aqara door sensors that will not show up in Z2m - First time they failed and now they don't show up at all?
error 2021-04-02 12:29:41: Failed to interview '0x842e14fffea30d70', device has not successfully been paired
error 2021-04-02 12:30:49: Failed to interview '0x00124b002236143c', device has not successfully been paired
I checked devices and db. and so on and they are not there - Anyway to add them?
Which coordinator?
And do you have enough routers in the location you are pairing ?
Im trying right next to the coordinator and trying at other routers - Have routers thoughout the apartment
Coordinator is a CC2531 - No problems earlier, but attempted ZHA with dissapointment and wanted to go back to Z2m
Yeah, the cc2531.... Isn't great
I know - But all other devices go on without any problems
I have 5 Door sensors, and none want to go on
4 of those
I removed 2 devices that was "unsupported" and now its like nothing wants to pair
Force remove
And now its just shit
Have you tried restarting the z2m instance and replugging the adapter?
Nope - Afraid to loose all the paired items 😄 - Maybe I should try
Yes
Yay - One of them on ❤️
Thanks for the assistance - I think I got it to work apart from my Ikea motion sensor - Its on but in occupancy it just says N/A
Ikea motion sensors... Is shite 🤣
Yeees
I know 😄
I have some more trouble 💩
Though Zigbee2mqtt I can turn devices on/off and see their state - But in my lovelace they are all unavailable
And under devices they are unavailable too.
And what does the z2m log say?
Nothing
Utilgængelig = Unavailable
https://imgur.com/a/J5cRQrM
Tried reconfigureing the MQTT integration without luck
Check and see if the entity_id changed in HA
I posted yesterday about one of my Sonoff switches that had randomly stopped working and I needed to repair it, now it's being really odd with it's reporting of battery level.
When I first added it back yesterday it showed a battery level of 100%, however after an hour or so when I looked it was showing down to 14%, then later it was showing 30 something %. Just looked again and it's showing back up to 45%.
I ordered some new batteries yesterday as a precaution when I saw it showing 14% so will put one in as soon as they arrive just to see what happens.
But has any one any ideas what the heck is going on with it?
Hi Team, Can you tell me how can I change parameteres like "occupancy_timeout" in the settings of a device in Zigbee2MQTT?
In which menu point should I add this or edit this?
Is there a way to backup the zha network? Or is a full snapshot enough to get it back up again after a crash
@glad plume it's in the docs for zigbee2mqtt
if it would be there and understandable I would not ask.
Just checked, it's there
that makes no sense. I ask because what is written there looks unrealistic. It says I have to modify it in the configuration.yaml. but now I should add one by one all my hundred device to the configuration.yaml just because changing this data? Are you sure it cannot be edited trough the GUI in Zigbee2MQTT?
Ok, doesnt matter its better if you not answer. I dont want to go into toxic chats with young ones. Ive seen you are just here to argue with others.
@jolly narwhal just for your information. maybe you can learn also something new. I finally found the settings, and it can be changed by GUI and its not in the documentation. so even your arguing was not based on any knowledge.
I only see one person being toxic here. Wind your neck in.
I'm in the process of migrating from my Pi > NUC running #449717345808547842. My log shows 0 devices connected
- copied most settings; pan_id, network_key, from my HA Addon to my new
configuration.yamlin my z2m directory on my new host. - copied these files:
devices.yamlconfiguration.yamlstate.jsonfrom my HA addon to my new host - made sure to ad
listener 1883tomosquitto.conf
log: https://hatebin.com/trqaqrsmps
working settings: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/DWp5GsZYpT/
NUC settings: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/4TjShs8GDR/
mosquitto.conf: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/7jkMKSTq7y/
I thought maybe it would just take a bit of time for them to connect, but it still says 0 devices after 1 hour
If you copy everything from one instance of zigbee2mqtt to another and use the same coordinator
You should be golden
Try stopping the z2m container, remap to a new folder on the host, copy in all files from the add-on and verify the permissions, then start the container again
Okay I will try that. Can you explain a little about what I should be verifying w/r/t permissions?
That tip you gave me - sudo chgrp -r /absolute/path agroup has been really helpful.
In fact just learning the word recursive has been eye opening.
One thing I have noticed is that if i want to edit some of the files i have to sudo
Then that means your current user doesn't have permissions to edit those files
They're owned by another user, and your group doesn't have read and write access to the file
okay. Probably unlikely then that if I fix that, it will solve my Z2M problems?
Maybe - all the files should be owned by the user that Z2M runs as
Would you use Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA?
I have the 1st butjust learned about the 2nd. It could replace the 1st?
I use zha. Yes, it can replace z2m.
After alot of trouble with ZHA I choose Zigbee2mqtt
wth
I even just updated my firmware on my CC2531 with the newest to get my Ikea motion sensor to work - Took about half an hour with an arduino and some cables and success! 😄
the other day ppl said the exact opposite.
What troubles and what stick?
i have 1 conbee2 and 2 clean cc2531.. i cba to flash them so far.
CC2531 - I had a smartthings siren that wasnt working on it and a Zigbee smoke sensor
So I went to Zigbee2mqtt where everything now works.
I think support for that is still experimental on zha
It is
ZHA and conbee fine?
But still I don't think ZHA supports the Smartthings Siren and the Zigbee smoke alarm - Not sure what brand.
I used a conbee 1 for a long time and it worked fine
zigbee2mqtt supports a lot though
If a device follows the Zigbee standard, ZHA supports it
It's one or the other right, can't use both with 1 stick.
Go and tell that to my Smartthings Siren Abmantis 😉
i will make a backup and just give it a go
whats a coordinator? The conbee2 in my case?
Yes
Which is experimental with zigbee2mqtt at best, and we have seen a lot of users lately have issues with the combo
i saw some YT where they say some device not working trough zigbee repeaters. That true?
Some routers (bulbs etc) aren't great
I use mostly IKEA tradfri and Xiaomi aqara
I have zero issues with a 100+ device network
works fine for me, it's just the motion sensors (Sonoff) that give me grief. 7/8 are bad. (triggers every minute, drains battery. even in z drawer)
I've replaced 2 batteries so far in... 30ish battery devices
I have 2 wireless double rockers, four mini buttons, 6 door sensors, 6 motion sensors, 9 temp sensors
Plus some IKEA and hue switches
i had 150 Euro shopping basket for Ikea. Went to checkout. "We dont deliver when do you want to pick it up" Byee-eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I'm new to Zigbee, getting a bunch of stuff tomorrow (zzh! stick for the coordinator). Anyone have a good reference for basic RPi-based commands for managing a network? Basic stuff like scanning the mesh, determining what's connected, signal levels, identifying routers vs end devices, etc
Well, all of that is available via zigbee2mqtt web frontend
No idea about the other implementations
You don't manage by raspberrypi os cli atleast
I guess I want to go one layer below what zigbee2mqtt is
Why?
learning and understanding is fun
But it makes no sense
if you are a dev, just start developing zigpy or zha or z2m and you'll learn about the lower level stuff

zigpy looks like a good starting point; thanks!
ok i running ZHA now. My SNZB03 (Sonoff pushbuttons) only show battery. No other properties. Am i right in assuming proprietary trick is to make your HUB know the capabilities of the device and then just not send the prop rinfo during a handshake/negotiation when adding to the network?
the aqara stuff regged ok it seems. Just no linkquality as well as tamper and batterylow but that might be something zigbee2MQTT added
actually maybe it's just ZHA doesn't understand that yet.
x6c7b:1:0x0006] ZCL request 0x0001: []
[0x6c7b:1:0x0006] No handler for cluster command 1
Log is not timestamped.. come on ppl :/
You need to listen for zha_event in the developer tools
Or perhaps there are even device automations pre-made for your Sonoff button
ok found something in community
@balmy ginkgo in the automation UI, if you chose Device in the trigger type, and then select the sonoff, doesn't it have a few triggers?
uh i dunno .. i was expecting it to show up when pairing it. I am now doing: https://community.home-assistant.io/t/zha-sonoff-zigbee-switch/268628
but it did show up
if it is a button, the only entity it has is the battery. link quality is show on the device page (LQI), and clicking it is an event
aw ok. I cant check coz i am in process of implementing blueprint.. willcheck in a bit
yeah, you can also use a blueprint 🙂
also, you can always open more tabs on your browser 😄
its fine, as long as you close it in the same day!
ok BP works
Ok i see LQI there but the ZB2MQTT put it as a property so i could use it in cards.
SO what you ment earlier is if i create an automation and say it is based on the switch i should see the stuff too?
yeah. just select trigger type "Device"
oh, they are missing 🤔 maybe no one has added them yet
garykrige to the rescue 😉
1 click light on,. 2 clicks light off, long press 30%. Wonder why they don't have a 3 click
THis blueprint is much better i used to have 3 automations for this 🙂
xiaomi buttons have up to 5 I think
3 on the boat from china as we speak
I hooked up the broken Sonoff motion detects.. still broken. triggering for no reason. I hoped maybe .. with ZHA it would magically work
I've had ghosts on some xiaomi motion sensors too (not frequent) and on IKEA motion sensors (very very frequent)
have you tried changing batteries?
yes.
The batteries were drained for the most erroring ones. like 40% i have 1 that's flawless it is still at 100%. I had sensors messaging a motion every minute.
something like that the bar was just 1 pixel red 1 pixel green over and over
They briefly worked. I wonde rif it's something environmental in my house
hi, what could you offer a zigbee thermostat that runs on batteries and has a temperature sensor?
Did you look at the lists of known working hardware in the pinned messages?
where I can find this list?
In the pinned messages
📌
Top of the window, on the right - just after the channel topic
ok, thanks
The topics in every channel tell you what's on topic, and what other key things you need to know
Most channels have pinned messages for key information
Is there any issues with the deconz image (stable version), suddenly im not able to control the lights
im running it on a seperate rpi
deCONZ by dresden elektronik is a software that communicates with ConBee/RaspBee Zigbee gateways and exposes Zigbee devices that are connected to the gateway. Our #zigbee-archived channel is a good place to ask about using it with Home Assistant, but they also have their own Discord server.
If you can't control the lights from the deCONZ UI, I'd ask on their Discord
do you know if deconz.configure service allows templating? I'd like to put temperatures read by external sensor to my trv
ZEN thermostat
I've got zigbee2mqtt running , but wanna view its map (bought some zigbee bulbs, wanna see if my battery powered devices connect to it ) is it easy to add the webgui for zigbee2mqtt ?
ah only edit configuration.yaml ?
got it running as a container though
server: 'mqtt://localhost:1883'
this one ?
Very
Well, yes
host: 0.0.0.0 = localhost ?
ok got it , nice its working , got a bulb , but no battery devices paired to it , do i need to repair the battery ones around the bulb ?
Not really
Other than Xiaomi, things will re-route as required
Even Xiaomi stuff may re-route
ah nice
what happens when devices routed through the bulb , and someone "accidentaly" flips its mains switch ?
ah
I recommend stop using mains buttons
map doesnt show routers routes ? (includeRoutes: False)
some devices seem to have gone up in lqi , had some devices on the edge of disconnecting
these zigbee 230v devices , will repair after a power-out ?
Yup
So it may have a lousy antenna. Or there's interference, or ...
so I have these bulbs: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/E11-N1EA.html
and adding them in z2m let's them expose effects into HA... but they don't seem to actually do anything
is this common?
for example
I've set "breathe", but nothing happens to the light that is different from it just being on
when i set that, this is published to the /set topic for the bulb:
{
"state": "ON",
"effect": "breathe"
}
but nothing else ever happens
Hi! Having taken the step to install Zigbee2mqtt (with ConBeeII stick) on my Intel NUC Home Assistant server, I have finally (!) thrown out my IKEA Hub. All my ZWave and ZigBee nodes are now fully controlled by my HA server. However, I would like to bind my Ikea light switches to my Ikea Light Bulbs/Panels so that they can be controlled even if my HA server is down (e.g. due to upgrades).
For the moment I control all my Zigbee devices through HomeAssistant, so that button presses acts on my lights and blinds, but would like to make sure they also works directly without HA running.
I have tried binding the switches to the lights from the Zigbee2mqtt GUI, but none of the buttons cause the lights to react. I am runnint Home Assistant OS 5.12, Zigbee2mqtt 1.18.2-1 and Conbee II rev. 0x26680700.
E.g. I have one IKEA 5-button light switch (model E1524/E1810) and one IKEA LED Bulb (model LED1624G9) that I would like to bind. Looking at the switch I have the following:
"Source EP 1" bound to "On/Off" cluster of "default_bind_group" and "Source EP 1" bound to "PowerCfg" cluster or "coordinator EP 1".
Then I guess I would bind the "Source EP 1" of the swithc to the light bulb's EP 1 cluster "on/off" and "level control" in order to control on/off and brightness/color of the light. Right? Well that is not working for me, unfortunately.
The following clusters are available:
Identify, Groups, OnOff, LevelCtrl, Ota and Touchlink.
Similarly I struggle to bind the IKEA Blinds control to the corresponding IKEA Blinds.
Any help in making the binding work is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.
what i did when i was dealing with binding was to connect using MQTT Explorer, and attempted the binding (by manually publishing to the endpoint) repeatedly until the binding was successful
i was binding lutron aurora dimmers to sengled bulbs (the same ones i mention above)... but ended up going a different route entirely, and controlling them via HA automations triggered by the mqtt event generated by the dimmer
i did that because my sengled bulbs weren't reporting their state BACK to z2m after having been changed by the bound remote, so the state inside HA would often have a mismatch with the physical state of the bulb
from what i understand, ikea bulbs do report their state correctly, but i haven't tried any of those out, so ymmv obviously
Thanks. Do you have any links on how to use MQTT Explorer to bind devices?
So I have CC2531 currently but I bought myself a new zzh with CC2652R. Now I need to replace one with another...but what will happen to the devices that were under old one? Should I simply unplug old one and plug new one? Or maybe there's need to be something done with HA before that?
No idea then
@mighty river check out the back up and restore here https://github.com/zigpy/zigpy-znp/blob/dev/TOOLS.md
if you want to be on the safe side, reset them and pair again...
@molten linden @golden vessel Thanks, I'll check that backup and also consider 'simple' recreation of my very small network. 🙂
@mighty river Beings it's "very small" I'd just re-pair.
OK, but in this scenario should I simply unplug old one and plug new one? It's just I don't want to have some leftovers in the HA...
Remove entities before changing coordinators.
remove the zha integration
probably the entity ids will stick around, so you won't have to rename things again...
Want it _2 them?
I got all my Z2M devices migrated over from my old set up. 👍
3 light bulbs that are functioning in my Z2M frontend are showing up as unavailable in HA.
Has anybody experienced that?
Running the latest-dev and #449717345808547842
Check the Z2M log - see if it reports that it can't reach the bulbs
So good news is no error logs, or warning logs. 0x0017880108197B79 is the bulb, and when I set it to debug i get this:
And with Info i get this:
MQTT publish: topic 'zigbee2mqtt/not_sure_router', payload '{"description":"36240/0x0017880108197B79","led":false,"linkquality":78,"rssi":0,"type":"NEIGHBOR"}'
These logs look slightly different than I am used to, but the only thing that sticks out to me, is that not_sure_router is on the opposite side of the apartement as the bulbs. I've got 4 routers and a coordinator, and that one is the furthest away.
So some good news! 2 out of the 3 lights are working. I couldnt' find them cuz their name changed:
previously light.0x0017880106c01547_light -> now light.0x0017880106c01547
During the migration,I guess the name changed?
Quite possibly
I do tend to rename everything in Z2M, picking the option to update the HA entity ID
There's nothing special about the different install methods
Ha! alrighty then
That just leaves one bulb that I can turn on+off from the Z2M front end, but is missing from HA. Could renaming it potentially make it appear in HA?
omg i found it
also renamed
There are three Zigbee options with Home Assistant (regardless of how you install it). These are:
deCONZ is relatively stable and mature with its own UI (and Discord server). It can run in an add-on, in a Docker container, or natively. Only the ConBee range of sticks and RaspBee GPIO boards are supported. Known working devices are documented, and how to request support for a new device is documented too (you can't add unsupported devices yourself).
zha is actively developed as part of Home Assistant Core, using the zigpy stack, the UI also being part of Home Assistant. The EmberZNet based sticks are recommended, but there are other options. There is no list of supported devices, as any standards compliant device should work. Devices that require extra support are listed, and adding unsupported devices is documented (you can't add unsupported devices yourself).
Zigbee2MQTT is very actively developed and can run in an add-on, in a Docker container, and natively. As of 1.15 has a native UI, and it also uses MQTT for control and configuration. It supports mostly TI based sticks, with the recommended options being the Zig-Ah-Zig-Ah!, Slaesh's stick (though be aware of the well documented communication problems with the seller), Tube's CC2652P2 based coordinators and the TI Launch-XL boards. The known working devices are well documented (which usually includes how to pair them so you don't have to find the manual), and adding unsupported devices is also documented.
I'm trying to fin where I had instructions about writing firmware to a CC2531 stick
I thought there were instructions somewhere for writing it using an ESP or something, I found one set that uses RasPi
I really start to wonder if zha is programmed correctly... I have some endpoint devices connected to the network last with routers only 1 or 2 metres away. Still they link to light bulbs on the other side of the house leaving them with a shitty connection. Why isnt every device finding the best connection? Why does it seem like every device is trying it's best to find the worst connection and pair to that one. Can this be fixed?
ZHA has no control over this
Permit joins through specific routers if the end devices you join seem to pick bad parents
hey - so if I'm using ZHA I had to reflash my Controller - does the Zigbee database allow the devices to check back in?
or do I need to re-pair my lights, etc ?
cause like currently all the entities show up as Unavailable
https://i.imgur.com/nJMInsQ.png
if I look at the Network Visualization - it shows stuff
https://i.imgur.com/eJDsHEU.png
but it's like.,... a mess right now
I do see these "Scanning neighbors of 00:17:88:01:02:a0:fc:29/0xab25 device" type entries - and earlier I saw some logs from the ZHA stuff about trying to rebuild groups or something
https://i.imgur.com/8pU9Jxi.png
Which coordinator?
cc2531
You’ll need to rejoin unless you backed it up before reflashing
backed what up?
The nvram on the stick
does the zigbee.db file do anything?
like I'm seeing several "restored" devices and groups - is that where those are coming from?
Ha knows about the devices but the stick doesn’t
yeah - looking at the ZHA Events - it looks like there are a lot of devices trying to check in, but the stick just doesn't let them
presumably cause the pairing is bad now :/
alllllright - I guess I'll get to re-pairing here in a little bit
If you re-flashed without backing up the network data then your network settings were completely re-generated and your old network is completely gone
If you have any old HA debug logs the network settings would be in there
Otherwise re-joining everything to the new network is unfortunately the only solution
fair enough - whatever had happened to my old network anyway it had stopped working and the USB Stick was restarting/disconnecting every 30 seconds or so anyway
so it probably wouldn't hurt to give it a fresh start anyway I guess
The USB stick was disconnecting?
basically it seemed to hit an issue with
[ 69.405629] cdc_acm 3-1:1.0: failed to set dtr/rts
Then it would disconnect from the host, then reconnect then retry about 30 seconds later
and repeat ..... and repeat .... and repeat .....
after reflashing the CC2531 chip though - I'm not seeing that (idk if it's different/newer firmware or anything though)
Yep, that's the CC2531 lockup bug
You can "fix" it by just unplugging the CC2531 and plugging it back in
Though I've not heard of one not working after being unplugged and plugged back in
yeah it never would fix if I unplugged/replugged it
pudly how do i let devices join a specific router. is this from within HA select the router and select add devices through this device?
If so then i allready tried that but without any luck. or maybe the visual interface shows the wrong links?
Its running for a few days now and it seems that the system is still trying new links. Could this be true? Can it take days or even weeks to finalize its setup? Or is it an ongoing process
Zigbee devices will pick their own connections and routes, you can't force that
then its time for zigbee 4.0 in which you can... apparently zigbee 3.0 isnt doing a very good job in establishing descent connections
its stupid devices i add to the network join on a router with an LQI of 40 on the other side of town while there is a router within 1 metre of it
zigbee 3.0 isnt doing a very good job in establishing descent connections
You mean your mesh sucks. 🤷♂️
An LQI of 40 doesn't matter if things work. If things don't work, add more routers.
And things work, right?
most do work indeed. every now and then a light wont come on though with motion sensor
or delayed
im trying to fix that
So there's no problem with the way Zigbee decides how to manage the mesh. Gotcha.
well if my doorbel button is connected to the attick while there is an outside lamp 30cm away i would say its pretty dumb
Or like i said the visualization of ZHA is off
some dont even seem to have a link in the visual interface but do work
Its funny that after using deconz which was the worst btw. the hue bridge and now ZHA, Hue bridge is still the most solid solution. with no delay and all devices reacting like they should. all the time. So for some reason all the other options like deconz and ZHA are doing worse job for some reason
And im trying to figure out how to fix it. because hue bridge isnt an option
One last question. based on what are the links made in a zigbee network?
Well, there's official specs, and there's what manufacturers do
Well, I managed to bind the IKEA switches to my outdoor light and my 2 kitchen lights (group). I can now control these lights without HA Automation involved, and can in addition control them from HA. However, when I bound my entrance ligth to its switch (both IKEA), the binding shows up in zigbee2mqtt control panel, but I am not able to control the lights from the switch. Very strange, as the procedure I followed was the same for all 3 swithces.
I see that Zigbee2MQTT Control panel lists a "default_bind_group" for all devices and for the IKEA Switches this is bound to OnOFF cluster. For my outdoor light I managed to unbind the switch from this "default_bind_group". But for other devices I am not able to unbind from this group.
Could this be causing problems controlling the lights from the bound switches?
not really sure, but it could be... does the switch have an led on the buttons?
can anyone link me to a good config on how to change (calibrate temperature for a aqara sensor)? whatever i've tried doesn't seem to work
What could be causing that I can't pair devices if I'm close to my deconz stick but when I'm on the other side of the house it pairs through a light there and it works. Tried to add remotes and sensors like 10-15 times and failed. Moved to the other side of the house and all pairs on first try through the light.
I have lights and sensors that I'd rather not move to the other side of the house for pairing
routers that you have (in the part where they dont pair) don't support children that you want to pair
move the bulb that pairs them whre you want them paired
I'm like a foot from the zigbee stick, I assume it suports it
Also, the ligths I have supports pairing as it is such a light on the other side of the house, I have one just like it close to zigbee stick too
deConz...
and conbee
the only other thing that i could think of
is very much wifi / bluetooth interference in the zone that they dont pair
read
No bluetooth anywere near... WiFi AP is 5 meters away, same distance in the basement
Works in basement, not upstairs
I've read it, they are on different channels
I'll try a extension for the conbee, perhaps that helps a bit
if that helps, it was interference 🙂
Hello. Have anyone successfully added an IKEA Fyrtur blind in deCONZ and still having the remote connected to the blind aswell?
Using a conbee II
How would I reset the entire zigbee network? Just hit reset gateway in deconz and start pairing stuff?
Well, doing it now... getting desperate
Maybe I should have called the "switches" "remote controls" instead. They are actually the IKEA 5-button controls. And no, they do not have a LED on the buttons, but they have a LED that lights up only when resetting the control and connecting it to the ZigBee network.
anyone ever used these Lutron Aurora Dimmers?
https://www.lutron.com/en-US/products/pages/standalonecontrols/dimmers-switches/smartbulbdimmer/overview.aspx
I used these when I had Hue lights to connect them with - and they're quite nice
I love how I can retrofit them over existing light switches (for my current apartment, since I don't have my own house)
I've got them controlling light-groups for on/off through Node-Red right now - but I should be able to set them up for Dimmer to work too - I just haven't tracked that down yet
if you do use them - do you ever find them somewhere cheap? it seems like ~$30/switch if about the lowest I've seen if you're lucky
Hey everyone. I am running home assistant via Oraclebox on a Windows machine. For now I am playing around with Zigbee2mqtt with a cc2531. Just testing some stuff, first with some temperature sensors. Today two power monitor outlets were delivered. Whatever I'm trying, the LQI's are horrible. I have tried an USB extension cord, I added an antenna, I even relocated the physical machine and the range is still awful. I googled for answers, i het mostly issues on github, and I can't imagine it to be a software issue. I am getting a bit frustrated. Does anybody have some pointers to help me in any way?
Have you checked your WiFi and Zigbee channels?
what kind of range/walls are you at?
CC2531 will get you about one room/wall without an antenna, and maybe two with
Aha
And that goes downhill with stone/brick/water/metal in the way
yeah - I've seen similar crappiness with a CC2531 sometimes
Many stone walls indeed 😅
With stone, expect to need a router in every room, or at least carefully placed to ensure that the walls are bypassed
Is it better to go with another dongle/stick?
Oh yes
got a LOT of reliability boost from adding two mains-powered devices that did Routing to just live there and improve the mesh
The CC2531 and CC2530 sticks are cheap for a reason. They're fine for testing, but do yourself a favour and buy something better.
On Z2M, go with anything CC2652 based
I'm looking out for a zzh! (Zig - zig ahh! - I think?)
because it seems to be a MUCH higher performance item
UK: ZZH
US/Canada: Tube
NL here 😄
I also saw this comparison
#zigbee-archived message
There's two in Europe, one in Italy (see above) and one from Slaesh...
Thank you for the quick reply, I appreciate it
If you buy Sleash, do expect a total failure to communicate. The stick will just turn up one day
hopefully ⬆️
when I looked at Tinker's comparison link https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MM6z-uBwQ-DkHnAA00rR2IauyC4c58JIHbatKahRdyw/view
I hadn't even thought about one that had external Antenna
but that makes a LOT of sense
Yeah, my CC2531 with antenna gets about 80% of the range of my ZZH with identical antenna - which is pretty good
yeah - I have loads of Wifi Antennas around (work in IT) but the zzh! looks like such a good price.... I'd rather just pay them to do the thingy
and it looks like the ZZH! from Electrollama/Tindie may be back in stock tomorrow
https://electrolama.com/lab-notes/march-2021-update/
Had no issues adding 17 lights, but the last 5 just refuses. I'm about to loose it... Also one seems to be "half added" or something
I have other working lights close to all of the 5 refusing to join, so shouldn't be interference or missing routers
1 xiaomi sensor worked fine, 2 other fails. Also close to lights that joins fine
Any ideas?
I do
E27 Ikea lights 1000lm are failing, think at least 2 are those. 1 ikea RGB E27 also fails.
@runic hazel if you use z2m, I made a blueprint for them: https://community.home-assistant.io/t/zigbee2mqtt-lutron-aurora-dimmer-control/287379
What coordinator are you using?
conbee with deconz
I'd ask the gurus over in the deCONZ discord then
I bought mine back in october-ish for $40 a piece so $30 sounds like a deal lol
deCONZ devices and entities are not synced with Hass, erasing a device on deCONZ wont erase it on Hass, and new devices are not detected....
yeah I got mine like 1-2 years ago for ~$50 each
Is there any tool to easily roll out "firmware" updates to all the bees in my mesh?
That'd be done by your integration
Zigbee2MQTT 🙂
great thanks
Their docs aren't big, unlike HA's, it's worth taking a read through
yea actually i had glanced at that before but never dared to tinker with the inject stuff but guess its time to learn 🙂
so ye il check it out 👍
I've had no issues with my Ikea stuff. The Salus won't update, but that's a source firmware issue I think - possibly it's corrupt
im very satisfied to hear that 🙂 Im so glad i got back into t his after leaving it a little yanky for some months
time to fix stuff with my new knowledge
It seems all the deConz gurus are absent 😦
i think thats another channel
They'll be along later, probably enjoying a long weekend
Well, it's here, but also over on their own server
Oddly though, people have lives
I'm afraid the lights and all zigbee stuff will be broken and in the trash by then
patience is a virtue
Yeah, I know... just getting frustrated with having issues everytime I do something regarding zigbee
the lights won't expire because they sat on the table for another day friend
Time to ditch the stick and deCONZ and come over to the dark side 😛
👆
lol, and what would the dark side be? ZHA? 🙂
Zigbee2MQTT ... I have taste 🤣
I ran it for a few days... now I hate mqtt even more
The stick you have will work with ZHA or Z2M, it's just experimental in Z2M
I'm running ZHA + CC2531, but I Probably will aim to switch to Z2M + ZZH!
I finally ditched the CC2531 today
And now I have to wait for them to get back in stock 😅
my CC2531 is working pretty nicely now that I just added several Router devices
for zzh tinker?
I've been running a pair of meshes as I migrated, and today I got around to replacing the last device
ZZH, yes
cool, Im about to do the same tomorrow maybe. (CC2531 > ZZH)
seems to be smooth enough
I got my mind set on a ZZH too 😊
I had everything up and running without any major issue, just the monthly loss of a few devices that a restart sorted for another month. That machine crashed so I'm starting over with the zigbee stuff and now I can't even get all the lights in
I took a while because I wanted to replace a few devices along the way
@pearl pasture it looks like they're going to release a set for purchase tomorrow
That was last month
Shop here
This is April
oh dammit stupid months/time
I left my e-mailaddress 😇
Btw when I rebuild the network is it better to start with the lights closest to the ZZH transciever to build a good mesh? I have like 15 bulbs (routers) and maybe 20 sensors.
Start at the coordinator and pair the routers spiraling out, then pair the end devices
when I re-paired mine after flashing my controller, first I started with my Router devices
yep- that
Or do what I did, and half ass it in a semi-random order and let the mesh settle it all later
Ok thanks!
That may not have been a great approach, but hey 😄
I think i will retrieve a topology before/after for the keks
as long as it works 🙂
some of my lights definitely didn't want to pair far away, so I ended up just bringing them to a light stand to sit next to the thingamajig to pair, them move them
I need to be a little more active here 😏
by "far away" I mean ~20 ft
Yea I have one of that Psycodata, hopefully it will "fix" when I rebuild
If you want to avoid re-building your network you can just migrate the network config from the CC2531 to the ZZH
I believe they have to be re-paired because my cc2531 is on zigbee 2.1
Nah, that's just Z2M. They'll add support for migration eventually but in the meantime you can use zigpy-znp's command line tool to do it: https://github.com/zigpy/zigpy-znp/blob/dev/TOOLS.md#network-backup-beta
oh wow 😮 thank you so much
I was about to risk my life to repair my living room bulbs because they no longer have a switch so I was going to put the ground wire in and out of the connector box 5 times
PM me if you need help getting things running. I just need a few more testers before I consider it ready for release but the CC2531 w/ Z-Stack Home 1.2 migration has been successfully done a handful of times so it should work without issues (assuming Z2M doesn't get confused and re-form the network)
Thanks, will definitely note that down
just to throw in, since I went from husbzb-1 w/ zha to a zzh w/ z2m, I've been much happier with zigbee in general lol
any of you all use Voice assistants to bulk turn off lights or similar?
I've got an annoying issue where I think when I ask Google Home to turn off several items, something might be getting Throttled
#voice-assistants-archived message
Maybe worth asking in #voice-assistants-archived
To what extent is NOT changing default z2m encryption keys a problem? Does that give potential attacker control abilities?
Yes
All network traffic can be passively observed and any device on the network can be controlled if an attacker knows your network key
@true gale posted a code wall, it is moved here --> https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/mbRfN66YDX/
i can can change these to anything between 1 and 255
I believe using GENERATE will cause Z2M to randomly create one, as it should be doing
# Setting network_key: GENERATE will make Zigbee2MQTT generate a new network key on next startup
network_key: [1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 13]
@true gale Rule #6: Please do not post codewalls (text longer than 15 lines) - use sites such as https://paste.ubuntu.com/ (just not Pastebin).
Please take the time now to review all of the rules and references in #rules.
# Setting pan_id: GENERATE will make Zigbee2MQTT generate a new panID on next startup
...
# Setting network_key: GENERATE will make Zigbee2MQTT generate a new network key on next startup
Probably those strings should be the default
what is pan_id and do i need to Generate it too?
It's the network ID, that identifies the network
You don't have to, but it's not a bad idea not to use the default
Hi is it possible to open the web interface without the border on the top and left?
i want to add the zigbee2mqtt webinterface into a iframe of home assistant
i found it with the developer tools
Will i didn't.
Is there a way to integrate a addon to an existing lovelace dashboard site

Hey everyone
has anyone paired a Lidl gateway with Home Assistant?
I don't see any integration
I don't think there's a specific integration for them. You'll need to use one of the three mentioned in the topic here.
Check the docs to see which ones support it.
Also... gateways suck. You're better off getting a USB stick and pairing all your other stuff through that.
Anyone know a method to get full message stack from a Sonoff SNZB-03 via deconz without sniffing?
Backstory is that apparently these arent being driven correctly through deconz. Many complained that they would send a "occupancy: 0" after a minute no matter if there was continued motion in front of the sensor or not
Another user was able to find out that there are multiple types of messages sent from the sensor, one of which has the behavior one would expect from a motion/occupancy sensor
Sensor1 is the PIR, after a movement it sends ZoneStatusChange 1 and occupancy 1 :
14:47:15.001 MQT: tele/ZBBridge/Sensor1/SENSOR = {"ZbReceived":{"Sensor1":{"Device":"0x9D13","Name":"Sensor1","0500<00":"010000010000","ZoneStatusChange":1,"ZoneStatusChangeZone":1,"Occupancy":1,"Endpoint":1,"LinkQuality":55}}}
14:47:15.049 MQT: stat/ZBBridge/RESULT = {"ZbSend":"Done"}
After some short time (typ 1 min) the msg with occupancy : 0 arrives (!!! ZoneStatusChange is not send)
14:48:45.010 MQT: tele/ZBBridge/Sensor1/SENSOR = {"ZbReceived":{"Sensor1":{"Device":"0x9D13","Name":"Sensor1","Occupancy":0}}}
While I was still moving before the sensor the ZoneStatusChange stays on until there is no movement for 60 sec, then the msg ZoneStatusChange = 0 is send :
14:50:47.331 MQT: tele/ZBBridge/Sensor1/SENSOR = {"ZbReceived":{"Sensor1":{"Device":"0x9D13","Name":"Sensor1","0500<00":"000000010000","ZoneStatusChange":0,"ZoneStatusChangeZone":1,"Occupancy":0,"Endpoint":1,"LinkQuality":60}}}
14:50:47.431 MQT: stat/ZBBridge/RESULT = {"ZbSend":"Done"}```
long story short, instead of the binary_sensor basing its activity off of the "occupancy" value, I want to see if there is a method to read the "ZoneStatusChange" value, which does not change until the sensor is idle for 60 secs
There is https://paulbanks.org/projects/lidl-zigbee/. They wrote an integration, but also cover how to replace the firmware so you can use it directly from ZHA (or Zigbee2MQTT)
Using z2m and slaesh-coordinator. I just made a fresh install of HASSOS to move to an SSD (rpi4) and now I'm not getting any devices to pair. Do I have to reset the zigbee coordinator or something?
Ok, changed channel and pan_id and it seems to work now 👍
Hey there,
I think there was a link with zha compatible devices, what kind of attributes does it has. But I can't find it. Can you guys help me out?
Maybe on the pinned messages?
@solar orchid posted a code wall, it is moved here --> https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/ymXbJqTv2M/
Haha I not a code but anyway
It's over 15 lines of text, which is all the bot cares about
It'd have been a lot shorter if you didn't start a new line for every sentence, but used punctuation 😛
Who here is a PhD in zigbee? Mostly z2m?.
I have hassio in the proxmox with conbee2. Connected to it I have 3 xiaomi temp sensors. 1 ikea motion sensor. And a led strip ... It turns out that last night in the ha the presence sensor was stuck in "detected" and the led strip stuck in "on"... No matter what I did, nothing resolved. Restarted the hassio. I force a restart via proxmox. I restarted the proxmox it self . . And I even returned add on to the previous version of both the z2m and the mosquito broker
I'm sure it was something with z2m because the thermometers were working despite the fact that at z2m it was showed that the signal quality was n / a. Well I was 2 hours in this problem and I did not resolve ... I unplugged the led strip and went to sleep ... Today in the morning came back to work ... I saw from the history that the presence sensor unlocked after 5 h
First off, hassio hasn't been a thing for over a year.
sorry, no school is yet accredited for zigbee
Secondly, Conbee is experimental in Z2M for a reason
@sour shadow
I call hassio as a habit
But is the ha os (or whatever it called this days)
Sorry for long test I just used translation to make it easier that way
I did not know that,
This not working get me wondering why only this 2 device "got stuck"
When using Discord's new Reply feature it defaults to pinging the person you reply to, which can get frustrating for the target. Click @ ON to @ OFF to stop this - on the right side of the compose bar.
Well, it's probably a problem with the mesh

- Put the stick on a USB extension cable
- Don't use a USB 3.0 port
- Make sure that nothing is very close to a WiFi or Bluetooth devices
- Make sure you're not overlapping a WiFi channel (see the pinned messages)

I'm very neeb discord

Hello! 🙂 I was wondering what are the motion sensors that you can set the cool down via a cluster?
I changed the IP of my NUC, and now I am not seeing any of my devices in HA. They're all functioning from the Z2M frontend, and I'm not seeing any errors in the logs. The only thing I adjusted after changing the host's IP was this line in the Z2M config:
mqtt:
base_topic: zigbee2mqtt
server: 'mqtt://192.168.1.230:1883'
Is there any other reason changing the IP might cause a problem? Or some other setting I am overlooking that absolutely needs to be adjusted after?
Maybe I am missing something obvious in my before/after.Here is the before settings https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/xS4FnHdXhg/, after https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/DPMN8j3XxS/
Running latest-dev Z2M
You restarted Z2M after updating the broker?
You checked that it's connected and publishing?
Yea i sure did restart. This is the correct way, right?
docker-compose restart zigbee2mqtt
I got tons of stuff like this in my logs. I think that means its connected and publishing?
MQTT publish: topic 'zigbee2mqtt/black_router1', payload '{"description":"25526/0x00124B000BE95892","led":false,"linkquality":45,"rssi":0,"type":"PARENT"}'
I just turned discovery: on in the MQTT integration in HA, not the Z2M one. It had been off
That got the bulbs to come back!
and everything else too!
Hi All, i'm using tasmota on a Sonoff ZBBridge to link my zigbee devices with Home Assistant trough ZHA. Everything is working well except for my Tuya TRV's. They work as intended but I cannot receive the battery status. Is there any way to find that data and add this as an entity?
So I want to go down the zigbee route (if it's still worth while?) but not sure where to begin, should I get a zigbee stick or a zigbee hub or conbee? Basically my first idea on my list is one of them aqua cubes, but after that I want to expand to do sensors etc etc
Do I need an mqtt broker?
Well, the conbee is a stick 😛
☝️ start by picking one of those three choices
Right, I'll give them a read and see what direction it takes me
IMO the simple choice is between ZHA (part of HA) or Z2M (not part of HA) depending on your preferences
Is z2m easy enough to intergrate with HA?
If you have MQTT it's almost idiot proof. If you don't it's still not hard, you just need to set up MQTT first.
I don't have mqtt setup, I might look into that first then see how to go about that
I run home assistant in a docker container if that makes any difference to all this?
Doesn't matter
So I'd need to set up my own MQTT broker correct?
Yup - spin up Mosquitto
https://medium.com/swlh/using-docker-compose-to-build-zigbee-infrastructure-336983a6ad67 is worth a look if you're not familiar with Mosquitto
Hmm looks like that guide walks me through basically everything I need? Do I have to use postgreSQL? Probably advised anyway is it?
You don't have to, no
I think I'm going to get a zig a zig ah
oh actually it's out of stock haha nvm
I just found the "battery-low-warning" in the ZHA-clusters. With this data I could make a sensor to display when to change the batteries. Any idea how I can make a sensor from cluster data?
Thanks again I'll get reading and see what I can work out
No worries
Do zzh adapters often go out of stock?
Should I just put myself on the waitlist and expect them to come into stock shortly or are they they type of thing to go out of stock and not be back for months and just find a different one?
They do but also between maybe 1-2 weeks they become available for a short moment
Sure, its a great stick, just be quick to act when you receive the email
okay thanks @shut pagoda 🙂
Just got a topology export of my zigbee map gotta share it 🙂 https://i.imgur.com/eIs1YdQ.png
Blue are routers and the yellow are sensors
Are you in the US?
I'm all over the place! 🙂
That was for @pulsar skiff 😆
I'm quite surprised to see my Coordinator (C2531) only talking to the tradfri signal repeater. Does zigbee make this decision since the antenna is stronger on that one? Will be interesting to see once I migrate to zzh
Yes, the devices handle it
very cool 🙂 thanks
I have annoyingly one sensor that is not connected to anything on z2m map but works fine. At times its interesting to see where each communicate, there's no logic always but so far i haven't had a need to debug much anything, it just works.
Hello --- can 2 coordinators (HUSBZB-1 and Conbee II) run on two separate RaspPi4's on the same network ? HUSBZB-1 is currently production using zigbee but I have staged the second RaspPi4 with the Conbee II and was wondering if I could use Deconz will that mean I would have to factory reset (Hue bulbs and Xiaomi devices) re-pair all the devices.
Has anyone tried the Itead USB 3.0 Zigbee dongle that's preloaded with firmware that works with Zigbee2mqtt?
I have a Aqara smart EU plug and an Ikea gateway. On a raspberry I'm running home assistant. I managed to pair the plug to my Ikea gateway but it shows up as a lamp in HA. Is it possible to get the power consumption data from it somehow with my setup?
Would appreciate any help. I got two of these for 5USD would be a shame if I couldn't use them.
Support for that specific dongle in Z2M is extremely recent so you'd have better results using it with ZHA
Unless you're talking about the $4 CC2531 from Itead, which "works" but not very well due to hardware and firmware limitations
I don't have Ikea gateway but on some cases i've got the same result and i've used device_class: switch to make it a switch, probably doesn't help with the missing power metering but at least makes it not to be lamp anymore
Hm, ok. Just bought it as it was said it worked with Z2M out of the box. Tried ZHA as well without luck.
Which dongle? That sounds like the CC2531, which works with both
Is that in the dev tools in HA?
But is this that I'm trying to do even possible? Before I dig in too deep. I basically want to use the Ikea gateway instead of Aqara gateway and save the power consumption data on my raspberry.
Zigbee is very new to me.
The problem is that Ikea gateway, and the integration you're using for it
I'd open an issue with the developer of that custom component
@wind phoenix There may be an issue with those sticks. They might possibly be frequency miss tuned
It's this one https://www.itead.cc/zigbee-3-0-usb-dongle.html
https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/information/supported_adapters.html is the official list, ignore what manufacturer's claim
Initial development started on experimental (pre-alpha stage)
There's a link there to the issue about supporting it
Ok, would I be better off using ZHA?
Trying to move from ConBee (first gen) and Deconz
Well, with that stick ZHA is the more proven option
EZSP is much more mature in ZHA, yes -- but that stick doesn't work for many with either
So I guess I should just put the Itead zigbee stick aside and use Conbee. Didn't manage to get it working with ZHA
Well, if you want to use Z2M, use a CC2652 based stick
So I can connect it to the Ikea gateway but I can only turn it on and off. Is there an API for Ikea gateway to extract the data I want? In that case I can just modify the integration module.
How are you connecting HA to the gateway?
Gateway is connected with ethernet to a router. HA is on a raspberry connected to the router with Wifi
Ohh sorry, yes exactly that one
It's entirely possible that gateway has limited support for non Ikea devices
Most manufacturer gateways only support their own brand, and maybe things that follow the standards exactly. Xiaomi are well known for not following the standards...
The other option is to ditch the gateway and go direct with either ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT and your choice of supported USB stick
Alright, great advice thank you. I'll order a USB with zigbee.
Just... ask here first so you don't buy a lemon
Thanks man
I was just thinking of ordering one of these cheap ones at first
ZigBee CC2531 USB
The CC2531 and CC2530 sticks are cheap for a reason. They're fine for testing, but do yourself a favour and buy something better.
Fine to play with, but not for serious use
Adapters based on the CC2530 or CC2531 chip are not powerful and not recommended for networks larger than 20 devices.
I only have like 2 devices I want to connect with that one. Everything else goes via Ikea
You should ditch the IKEA gateway
And go for something better tbh
With zigbee2mqtt or zha if you choose
What would be something better, one step up from the CC2530?
CC2652
CC1352p2
thank you
A power blink knocked my HA server offline last night. My ikea zigbee bulbs defaulted to on, much to the anoyance of my wife. Is there anyway to set the default to off if they lose connection to the server?
Soooo I just got by conbee 2 today and all set up in zha. I included a couple door sensors and they show up as devices. But how do I get to actually know if it's open or not?
how are they integrated into HA?
Where can I find a link of supported devices in zha?
ZHA supports any standards-complaint device and has quirks to "fix" non-compliant devices
is there a place to search for this?
What device do you have? The device signature (https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zha/#reporting-issues) will contain enough info
Is this some device from an existing home security system?
ooh found it: https://na.smc.com/product/door-window-sensor-smcdw02-z/
Probably. came with the house..
it says 802.15 ZigBee HA profile compatible 🤷♂️
If ZHA doesn't detect it then it's "Zigbee"-ish
hmm. Well ZHA detects it and adds it as a device. It just doesn't know the manufacturer or model
In that case you likely need to keep the sensor awake long enough for ZHA to query it
When joining it to your network
and I'm brand new to zigbee: not sure how to tell if it's "on" or "off" and use it in an automation / lovelace
yeah I notice ZHA it discovers it then undiscovers it constantly
here's the log https://pastebin.com/aNdbXX8m
zigbee rgb par38 bulbs a thing?
it says The device is ready to use. Not sure how to use it or get a state from it....
Doesn't look like you're going to have a fun time with that sensor, it's probably intentionally designed to be non-compliant and will require someone who has the original security system to figure out how it joins and works: https://community.smartthings.com/t/smc-zigbee-devices-xfinity-home/2902/37
hmm, damn. I do have the security system control panel as well.
If you fully remove the sensor from ZHA and re-join it while continuously triggering it to ensure it's awake, the model and manufacturer info should show up
That may help you find the specific device, as the device may be running customized firmware or something and the model and manufacturer info may better identify it
Probably not
The logs during joining would identify the device by its model+manufacturer and what it reports its capabilities are, which is all that ZHA has to work with
can I manually configure this somehow?
Remove the device from your network and re-join it
i've done that a couple times now...
The device didn't respond to ZHA requesting its manufacturer and model info, so it likely either went to sleep (meaning you have to trigger it continuously by clicking the tamper detect switch or slamming the door repeatedly), or just does not respond with that info, so the debug logs likely would not be of much use unless you also capture how your existing security system interfaces with it
In any case, the debug logs of it freshly joining the network after having been factory reset would contain enough info
You can only ask a device to leave the network after it has joined by "removing" it. Some comply. Others you have to reset after they are removed, which usually requires holding some button down.
Hmm...still nothing. Should this absolutely work or could comcast be blocking it somehow?
Either way, is there a list of supported zha devices somewhere (perhaps with cost per item?)
Absolutely work? No. It probably won't because the device is weird and ZHA doesn't know how to talk to it, which may not be simple to fix. As for supported devices, https://zigbee.blakadder.com/zha.html will give you some supported devices, but these are just ones that people have confirmed work with ZHA and that were added to this specific collection.
@merry siren it isn't it they lose connection to the coordinator, if they lose power they go to full on
@jolly narwhal yikes. That's a terrible feature! I assume there is no way around this? Like shellies have the "Power on Default Mode"
Does anybody know if the zzh stick has to be in BSL mode after flashing as well, to be properly recognized or is it only when you're going to flash its required?
ikea bulbs support setting power on behaviour, to on, off, or previous
@warped oxide mine are connected to a conbee II, where would I find this setting?
Deconz
Only when flashing
deCONZ by dresden elektronik is a software that communicates with ConBee/RaspBee Zigbee gateways and exposes Zigbee devices that are connected to the gateway. Our #zigbee-archived channel is a good place to ask about using it with Home Assistant, but they also have their own Discord server.
You may get a faster response on their server (or may not)... I don't know deCONZ myself
Okay, i just found a znp uart comms test script so about to run that
Thanks, I'll poke around in deconz
it's in the 0006 On/off cluster of the bulb
setting is 0x4003 "PowerOn OnOff"
@warped oxide thank you! Will test after work today
Tinkerer, may I ask how your zzh stick looks in /dev/serial/by-id?
does anyone know if CC2531's can be configured with ZigBee 3.0 router (not coordinator) firmware?
I have 3 sticks sitting here and I have some UPS powered USB ports dotted about and I was hoping I could use them as 3.0 for better device compatibility?
Hey! Can somebody recommend me some decent zigbee TRVs for M30? I currently use the ones from Eurotronics and they are absolute garbage
/dev/serial/by-id/usb-1a86_USB_Serial-if00-port0
OK thanks alot, same as me then. The test script also returns pass /ok so thats really bizarre. Zigbee2mqtt addon complaining that it cant access the serial device though.
in the z2m config file, does is this part the same for you?
serial:
port: /dev/serial/by-id/usb-1a86_USB_Serial-if00-port0```
serial:
port: /dev/serial/by-id/usb-1a86_USB_Serial-if00-port0
Not that I use the add-on though
Thank you. I see, thats wonderful i think im getting closer to a solution
RBPI is really the best thing for troubleshooting anything from network issues to this kind of stuff 😂
Tinkerer what physical device and OS do you use for z2m?
hey atx
maybe u know
I run HA OS and it seems to have trouble accessing the zigbee stick, it works on the rpi 3b+ though so maybe an OS issue
Yeah, I don't touch HAOS with a six foot pole, so no idea 😄
I'm in a Proxmox VM (you'll see 🤢 from atx at that) on an old i5 laptop. The VM runs Debian
wow why did i not think of that
lol
thank you once again
I think the issue is that the stick is not able to be read properly in the HA OS. So lets find out 🙂
lol
Tinkerer did u have any problems what so ever connecting to the serial when doing that pass through in proxmox?
None
ok fck must be a vmware issue then
Ran the command line magic, job done
I finally found the source of my problems: https://github.com/Koenkk/Z-Stack-firmware/issues/220
Anyone who has ever paired a Tuya Zigbee rotary dimmer ?
I can't get it to pair whatever I do
The manual just mentions AP mode and app
appears the manual is for the wifi version
finally, slaesh stick just arrived, took ~35 days
sweet!
I have NAS-AB02B0, when pairing, it immediately pairs properly, but it cannot be controlled and sends only link quality, other options (and temperatures) are inactive.
What addon/integration are you using? Mine works fine with z2m
@unborn compass z2m
temperature and options did you have immediately after pairing? Mine is properly paired, but it still flashes and there is nothing to do with it.
Pretty much. I'm using it solely as a siren, but I remember having pretty much everything after pairing.
Oh weird. Yeah, mine have all the fields populated, minus battery_low and power. I don't recall if temp/humidity showed immediately after pairing though. Is your alarm functional?
It pairs properly (I see it immediately in the list) It make a sound when resetting. Otherwise see. picture.
Maybe just wait it out and see if the temp/humidity registers? Was just asking if the alarm was functional because that's one of the things that don't need to be "sensed"
It just pairs, but it doesn't send anything and can't control it,
Hi, are the xiaomi aqara T1 wall switches any good?
hey, i cant open the Add-on-store. its loading all the time...and nothing happends
Restart HA
how?
@mighty river then ask in #330990055533576204 or #add-ons-archived
Just bought a Fyrtur blind 🙂 I need to pair the repeater first, to z2m, but it doesn't seem to want to pair. Any ideas?
Pretty sure you don't need to pair the repeater
Hmm, that's what it says in the z2m documentation
However, Ikea stuff is known to be a faff to pair, and I found it took many attempts to get my repeaters paired
Yeah, it took me about 10+ attempts on one
I've got some Tuya Zigbee blind motors (for the corded blinds) in the drawer. I still need to buy the blinds for them 😄
pair just once, and you have to support it for 18 years...
Has anyone had the "CRC error in frame" message show up in their logs? I noticed my zigbee motion sensor wasn't triggering and i found over 400 entries like this.
I'm using Home assistant in a VM using Proxmox. Zigbee USB adapter: HUSBZB-1
That means the serial connection to your radio is broken
My zigbee sensors are working. Not sure if that makes a difference
Removed all zigbee devices and still seeing the error. 😢
puddly, did you already check what EmberZNet SDK is used by the latest "test" IKEA repeater firmware? (http://fw.test.ota.homesmart.ikea.net/global/GW1.0/01.13.025/bin/10037603-3.1-TRADFRI-signal-repeater-2.3.070.ota.ota.signed)
The same device is being used for zwave with no problem. As soon as I remove ZHA no errors. As soon as I reinstall the integration through the UI, even selecting the serial source manually, I get about 1 error a minute. But zigbee is still usable.
Another thing:
Is async_update for LightGroup only called on every startup? (https://github.com/home-assistant/core/blob/cdb151e8c9ffaccaa50e6b51a5496ebf31fb1cba/homeassistant/components/zha/light.py#L571)
Almost every time I start Home Assistant, some ZHA groups (with only IKEA lights) are only "half-there "(the IKEA bulbs haven't crashed and are still responding to unicasts and also the group they are still in (although ZHA doesn't show them still being in the group))
I have about 60 - 70 lights on my network. Only the IKEA devices show this behaviour but could it be related to the fact that these messages are sent too fast at startup? (And not in a regular interval of maybe all 5 hours + restore at startup?)
I also remember (not sure if that's still the case but I would guess so) that the "mass polling" of lights at startup basically "clogs" my entire network for a couple of minutes. I'd just like them to restore from their last state (and then have them polled in the normal interval maybe) -> perhaps something like this can be implemented after https://github.com/home-assistant/core/pull/48423 is merged?
I can't check the newer images, unfortunately. They don't contain the same metadata
Ah, already tried following some "tutorial" but didn't find any dates
Any suggestions on maybe how to fix this? Ive also seen some "watchdog heartbeat timeout" messages come through randomly.
Is your Zigbee stick on a USB extension cable and plugged into a non-3.0 port? Other than that I'm not sure what else to suggest. All of these issues are caused by frames getting corrupted between the radio and your computer, so they will be discarded and this will cause all sorts of problems.
Hmm nope it's plugged in directly to the computer to a USB3.0 port. Proxmox has the device set to passthrough. I can try other ports and see.
Yeah, I would start with an extension cable and plug it into a 2.0 port
You've combined the three things that cause problems: USB 3.0, no extension cable, and USB passthrough 😆
Sounds like i chose the perfect way to go about this as a first time HA user.
The latter seems to only affect certain combinations of USB-serial chips and hypervisors so at least that isn't 100% broken
Well I don't have a 2.0 port. Changed the proxmox setting to not use USB3 and still the same issue. I have a usb extension cable on the way so hopefully that fixes it.
Changed the proxmox setting to not use USB3
The problem isn't the mode, it's the hardware.
USB3 is known to interfere with EM devices.
Could a usb 2.0 extension or hub fix the problem if it's connected to the 3.0 port?
Anything that shifts your stick away from the USB3 hardware will likely help.
hi all, I've pretty new to this (just finished my RPi setup yesterday) and have started with ZHA and a zigbee usb stick. The first thing I'm trying to automate is my recently installed Sinope thermostat. I've got it all imported into HA, which worked fine. I can even manually control the temp in the dashboard. But when I go to make an automation, I don't have any choices for "Action" except to change the mode (off or heat). I'd like to be able to set the temperature from an automation. Does anyone know what piece I might be missing, or how I could go about making the action myself? I am a programmer by trade so willing to dig around if necessary, but a day's worth of searching hasn't helped much.
I did find the zha-quirks repo which does have some Sinope quirks implemented, everything seems to say these devices are supported. So I feel like I'm missing something fundamental 😄
You're likely looking for the Service section there, and the climate services ... https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/climate
Not everything is possible through devices - but everything is possible using the traditional methods
just confirmed that works if I run the automation manually, time to dig more into triggers 🙂
If you get stuck the #automations-archived channel (and docs linked from the topic there) should be able to help
thanks, I'll check it out
my zha network doesn't seem to be very selfhealing. Once one router goes down, it seems all end devices that previously used that router are lost untill that router is back online. Is that always the case? Shouldn't end devices be able to find new routes once they've lost contact?
Is it possible to force zha to look for new routes once a device is not seen anymore?
I don't know how much is done in the hardware layer and how much is due to the zha software. Is the routing just hardware, or can zha affect the routing choices?
I'm pretty new to this, but I was under the impression that zigbee doesn't do device repeating? As in, all devices connect directly to the hub. So it makes sense to me that if that goes down, stuff breaks
Nope
It is a mesh
Most mains powered devices are routers
A few battery powered devices are routers
The network has one coordinator
if the coordinator is down, you can't talk to the mesh
but everyhing inside the mesh still talks
and direct binds still will work
ah interesting I thought that was just a zwave thing
I have yet to get into all that with only one device, heh
See the pinned messages for some guides on Zigbee
In my case it's not the coordinator that is down, just one router (a lamp). Yet the devices that was previously routed through that router is now lost. Is that not your experience?
I have had one power device (out of... 60+) fail in 2.5 years, and that one had no devices routed through it afaik
so no idea

Most end devices will reconnect eventually - maybe an hour to 24 hours later
Xiaomi probably won't
hm, good to know about the usb3 interference. I'm using a pi 4 and have the stick in one of the 3.0 slots
I'll move it over tomorrow
how necessary is an extension cord with a setup like that?
Do you know if the routing is done on the hw side or is it zha?
Pretty sure that is handled in the zigbee protocol itself, devices will figure out the routing on their own
for the most part
A Very Good Idea
Also, if you can raise it above head height, you move it out of the way of the mobile signal blockers that infest your house (aka humans)
Sadly nothing can be done about the smaller lifeforms, known as cats, since they appear to have the uncanny ability to get anywhere they want

seems like the coordinator has somethng to do with it. I used to use deconz, but switched to zha. Sama hw but with deconz I constantly lost lamps
API Key issue: team I am struggling to get the API key returned from deCONZ REST-API (trying to access ZBMini by REST). I am following the "getting Started" docs by the word (https://dresden-elektronik.github.io/deconz-rest-doc/getting_started/#acquire-an-api-key) but my Postman just gets me "Could not get any response" '... the response status was 0'. Anyone point me to the right direction, please? ... besides, is this the correct channel for q's like this?
use the HA docs instead
...or better yet use zha instead of deconz
... sorry, I don't get it... what is zha?
It's one of the three Zigbee integrations that HA supports, and is native to HA
... ah... OK... let me have a quick look ... where would I find this in HA? Do I need to add it, separately?
See the bot message?
integrations
It has nice little links 😉
You would need to ditch the deCONZ add-on, and integration
.... let me check - hang on ...
@tribal gull When using Discord's new Reply feature it defaults to pinging the person you reply to, which can get frustrating for the target. Click @ ON to @ OFF to stop this - on the right side of the compose bar.
Cool, I found that ZHA ! What port would I need to but in? I do have the RaspBee II plug in the pins - not the USB stick...
It'll likely be /dev/AMA<something> - check the hardware list in the Supervisor menu
... ah! OK... let me check ...
... it says "/dev/ttyAMA0" but when I put that in it says "Failed to Connect" - any ideas, please?
...the correct entry is "/dev/ttyS0" ... it seemed to have worked so far ... 👍
hi all. I keep missing values from devices from within zigbee2mqtt with xiaomo switch and cube, with the following error. I've read about the legacy: false device configuration but applying this did not make any difference. Anyone has any ideas on what to do ?

I just changed changed some cheap CC2531 to zzh (CC2652R) [ZHA] but I'm not sure why it doesn't work. It can't detect Danfoss Ally at all and my Sonoff door sensor is detected but doesn't get updated with any states. Had to go back to the CC2531 to get the automations working :/ Any ideas what could be the problem here?
If anyone here has been able to pass-through the ZZH on ESXi 6.7, please send me a message or let me know here.
@mighty river Could you provide some details about your environment
Should work fine @fallow warren what happens when you change the settings of the VM?
What os is the VM running?
Tried both HA OS and Deb 10, 99,9% sure its esxi 6.7 issue because it works fine on my pi
You mean like hardware and OS? RPi4 with Supervised. I have only those two devices on zigbee for the moment.
Ok, and how did you do the migration?
Well, what steps fail? Can you pass any usb device? Usually it is pebkac
Very easy: removed entities, removed integration, removed device, plugged new device add integration and then tried to add devices through the new one.
Oh yeah, but at first (before removing them) new coordinator did find both devices but didn't get any states, so I did remove them and tried to add them again. Cleaner start you may say.
The OS can see the device atxbye but not access/read it seems to be a known issue on esxi 6.7 with the ch340 chip, so just curious if anyone here made it work
@mighty river did you see anything of interest in the z2m log?
Really, I can't say I've tried with the ch340
But I've passed through usb for a decade
I have a bunch of esp devices with ch340, I can try one of those for lulz
Ye same, and the CC2531 works fine because it has chip inbuilt. But the CC2652 do not have and rely on external chip to do conversion apparently
ye sure if u ever have the chance would be awesome 🙂 Anyway afk for a bit
My lab runs 7.0 but should be the same tbh, I'm doubting the usb subsystem has changed
Im actually very curious to wether its fixed in 7.0 and was hoping to test that if I could get my hands on it
since my vcenter is also 6.7 I cant go 7.0 on esxi
Well, you can install esxi7 on almost any host
So if you have a spare desktop or laptop
With a supported nic
@fallow warren ZHA not Z2M 😛 I have log from trying to reconfigure Danfoss Ally: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/QcQgk4Ypxn/ and some of the things from the start of the HA after plugin in CC2652R: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/MZ9xpFY9Rq/
I wonder...can I have two controllers in one HA? So I could test more easily. I'd check door sensor as that one would be easier to debug.
Sure, just not two zha instances - two Z2M, or one zha and one Z2M you can do
Hm...I'll check that then. If it works this way at least I'll know that there was issue with ZHA and CC2652R on some level (can be user level but we'll see ;))
Howdy 🙂
Anyone aware of a zigbee relay that acts as only as a short circuit relay, e.g. no 110V or 220V passing through?
I'm trying to find a way to zigbeefy a somfy shutter transmitter - that decice has 3 wires and basically I need to short circuit it in order to send the up/down signals
It looks something like this https://www.euromatik.fr/10541-thickbox_default/emetteur-somfy-volet-roulant.jpg
so regular relay operation
Yup
Pretty much everything that's zigbee+relay brings up some high voltage power or light switch 😄
Ideally something battery operated as this doesn't sound like in need of much power
The alternative would be to use a ok zero or something like that and hack around with the gpio pins + control, but that would land in the diy channel, and likely not the most time sensitive solution lol
I've seen one but it's ammm
So not battery powered - not a hard req tho - but anything that needs an L+N wire seems to want to transmit that 220V I've got in my power sockets to my lil' transmitter - instead of acting as a relay
Similar device would also allow for a "detached"/"headless" thermostat function for a regular gas heater - e.g that's a relay too (but with two wires), but again, having high power going in there is one bad day ahead
zzh came back in stock
but Tindie have told me 4 times now that my zip code is invalid but still have charged my card -_-
Ow nice, thank you @wise saffron
Just upgraded to 2021.4 and now ZHA is erroring, something about failing to talk to deconz, did I make a mistake upgrading? 🙂
ZZH worked fine after the upgrade
Deconz is running, using the app I can see devices, but I'm getting a python error from ZHA and non of my zigbee devices are working with HA. Which is a lot
Interesting - I've seen my Speedtest and weather dropping off
ISTR Speedtest is known to be broken
You can’t run deconz and zha at the same time
yeah that is likely - I've seen that it wasn't the point of upgrade when it started dropping off data. Met.no is weird tho - but offtopic for this channel
You're right, disabling deconz fixed it, odd that it was working up till now with it running
Does anyone know what the number on the edges on the ZHA Network Visualization mean? I assume it shows the link quality
How would I discover the REST endpoint for the Sonoff ZB Mini (from within ZHA)? Simply doing "GET phoscon.de/discover" won't do (as I am now using the aforementioned ZHA)...
anyone using Philips Dimmer switches having problems after the 2021.4.0 update? Am i missing a change note that said i need to do a manual step to get these working again?
ZHA? deCONZ? Zigbee2MQTT? Something else?
ZHA, thanks for the clarifying question
possibly this PR fixes? https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/pull/837
It is going to be some DIY anyway and unlikely battery powered. You could:
- use an Xbee module with GPIO pin connected to a relay. I think Shulyaka was using something like that and committed support to zha quirks
- find a smart plug that clicks, i.e. is using a relay, remove the high voltage part and replace the 3.3v switching regulator with an usb-to-3.3v dc-dc regulator
- use ESPH home???
Ok you could hire Tube to build something like that, but it is going to cost :D
Thanks, looking into that now, it looks like that will be the answer, but for whatever reason my ZHA doesnt want to do custom quirks... so I am trying to figure out why/what version i am on that is different
Is custom_quirks_path not yet working on 2021.4.0 for ZHA?
@molten linden Yep, that PR did it... i couldnt use the custom_quirks directory, so i manually loaded the quirk into the /usr/local/lib/python3.8/site-packages/zhaquirks/philips/ directory, removed the pycache dir, then restarted HA... MAGIC, things work again
doesnt seem like it @mellow geode
Ah, thanks for the report then
I had posted a topic in the forum, i will also update there, for anyone else that is looking 🙂
Thanks all!
Nice, thanks!
